The Justice League summons the Ghost King for his help with a certain something [you can decide what that is].
They expected something mighty, something that screamed royalty and was distinctly something other.
What they didn't expect, was for the Ghost King to appear in nothing but farmer attire, holding a bush, and humming.
Now, you see. Pariah Dark was enjoying his retirement, sure, he was still King, but in reality, the Ghost Zone no longer needed a king since it fell into Anarchy and sure, he could've just forced everything back together under his lone rule. But then a small koi passing through time whispered within his ear a most tempting offer.
And, well, he truly was unable to resist such temptation.
So, there he was, enjoying his afterlife on earth (or one of many) on a farm. His day started as normally as it would any other, waking up (and isn't that such an unusual thing?), fixing his bedding, taking a shower, preparing breakfast, eating said breakfast, and out the door to start his day.
All things that humans do, something he never thought he would do, but such a thing was... actually quite nice.
He walked around his farm, tending to his crops, taking care of any offending intruders upon his small kingdom, and picking up the ones that were ready to sell. Then he took out a brush and got to one of the best parts of his days.
Brushing his horses.
So of course, he had to be ripped away from his daily reward in the midst of a summoning. He was very disappointed, to say the least, he got used to not using his powers often in his new afterlife, so him not falling to the ground was purely his lower body strength.
He stopped humming, sighed, placed the brush in his pocket and looked over at the people who summoned him, vaguely recognizing them as that one group humans... liked? Raged? He doesn't know the exact words they used nowadays.
Okay, he could do this, he could be nice.
"What pathetic mortal creatures would dare summon a being higher than themselves."
Or not.

I kind of want to inject some Lord of the Flies vibes into Blood Sacrifices. Not explicitly, just some subtle references and inspiration.

Extremely dangerous how "grooming" in the context of child sexual abuse went from being a very specific pattern of isolation and trust-building with the aim of abusing someone to "telling children anything that contradicts their parents' ultra-conservative worldview is grooming" to "selling rainbow flags in a store is grooming" to "literally anyone I don't like is a groomer".
These days the word seems to most often be used by people who don't care about what it actually means and just want an easy "this person is irredeemably evil, kill them now" button.

i think a lot of people (especially those who haven’t read the books) are underestimating Hades
yes, he presents as the sassy queer uncle who’s done with his family’s drama, but he’s not “just some guy”
when his Helm is stolen, no one knows about it. he uses his own resources and orchestrates a plan to bring Percy to the underworld alive, all while managing an entire freaking kingdom
he doesn’t threaten war because he doesn’t have to and he knows it. unlike Zeus, he keeps a level head and thinks about the situation logically
think about Percy’s priorities throughout the show, look at what the flashbacks are teaching us about him and his relationship with others. think logically. this is a 12 year old kid who grew up with a single mom and no friends
his priority is his mom, it’s always been his mom and Hades knows that. Percy’s worst fear is losing his mother and Hades uses that against him
he takes Sally before Poseidon claims Percy because he has eyes everywhere. he already knew who Percy was and he already had a plan formed before Percy even set foot in camp
when he greets Percy and Grover he isn’t surprised, relieved, or agitated because he planned this. he knew that Percy would come to him whether by force or by his own choice (for my book readers, think about this in comparison to how Zeus reacts to the situation. Zeus comes off as desperate and angry, whereas Hades is at ease. annoyed, sure, but never panicked)
when he offers them pomegranate juice it’s in the guise of politeness and humour but it has an underlying meaning. Percy knows the stories about Hades and Hades knows that he knows. the pomegranate juice is a reminder, it’s Hades demonstrating his power without outright threatening Percy. it’s him going “I can make something as small as a pomegranate seed into a weapon” it’s him asserting his dominance and control over the situation
he leads them to a seating area clearly made for their arrival. another reminder that he knew they were coming and Sally stands, frozen in the middle of it as a reminder of what they have to lose
when he learns that it’s Kronos behind the robberies he immediately offers sanctuary to Percy, Grover, and his mom. Kronos, the king of titans, the father of all Gods, and a being who could once tear the world in two with the snap of his fingers, wants Percy, and Hades offers to protect him because he’s that powerful
so yes, Hades makes dad jokes and he talks in a way you wouldn’t expect an all-powerful being to talk, but he isn’t “just some guy”
he’s powerful, he knows it, and he shows just enough of that power to absolutely terrify Percy

an angle i enjoy in cosmic/eldritch horror is when, instead resorting to the old classic "the horrors being so incomprehensible that they break your brain and drive you mad" cliché, the premise is that in comprehending the horrors you are so changed by the experience that your new state is indistinguishable to an outside observer from madness. you comprehend the unknowable just fine, but actually communicating that to anyone else is impossible because they just don't have the mental framework required to understand it. the eldritch horrors don't drive you mad. what does is the ordinary everyday horror of finding yourself isolated, ridiculed and doubted at every turn, no matter how hard you try to make yourself heard and understood.
