Hey sorry for asking but what pen did you use for that toad and zoo drawings?? It looks so fun! :)
I used different pens for each: for the toad I used a Pentel fude brush calligraphy pen, and for the penguins I used a Marvy Uchida artist brush (not refillable and less fine detail, but I don’t worry about the ink cartridge depressurizing if I take that one on a plane).

Pegoryu Week 2022 day 4: Hurt/comfort. OTPtember 2022 day 21.
9/21-22/2022. Pencil sketch, referencing 2 Figma Male Swimsuit Ryo version 2, one of which, was using the head from Figma Archetype He. Lines inked with Copic Multiliner pens, Stabilo 88 pens, Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens, and Marvy Uchida Le Pen. Colored with Copic markers. Some modification on Krita.
Had to lighten Ryuji's skin on Krita. I don't know why Copic E000 looks so dark now. 2 years ago, when I drew AkiRyu ALL the time, E000 was the color I loved using most for Ryuji's skin. I only stopped because I ran out of ink. Now, I finally have ink refills for E000. But now it's too dark for his skin, and I don't know why! ;o; The nib has been getting odd, hard patches, so maybe the ink has been over-concentrating in the 2 years that I barely used this marker, waiting for refills? Maybe my ink refill is just very dark? Or maybe my initial evaluation of E000 was skewed by the ink in my marker running lower than I thought at the time, and maybe E000 has always been a darker color than what I needed, but my particular marker was off??? If that's the case, I just wasted money and shopping opportunity on an E000 ink refill tube. ~_~;

How do you get inspiration? What media do you use? Why does your stuff always look good or have a meaning???
oh these are great questions!! i'll try to answer 'em all
inspiration - i'm a huge sci-fi and horror fan, also an amateur old time radio historian (radio has vast potential for creepery), and i'm really into old pulp serials and EC horror comics like Creepy/Eerie/Crime SuspenStories, Vault of Horror, Tales from the Crypt etc. i also like ARG/suspension of disbelief/found footage stuff and cosmic horror/weird fiction. survival horror games are big fun. zdzislaw beksinski, emil melmoth and berlinde de bruyckere are my favorite fine artists. the short answer is horror/dark sci-fi/dystopian stuff in general, but i'm not capable of short answers hoo hoo hoo. if it's unsettling i'm probably like 👍. i'm also a big fan of classic animation and i like the idea of an alive cartoon man who uses cartoon logic as a springboard for horror
media - what i don't use might actually be a shorter list! i don't do much digital art because i don't have the equipment for it, most of my stuff is real media that's slightly manipulated. i like brush and ink (kuretake zig is my favorite, also pentel's Japan division makes rad brush pens) and pens like marvy uchida and tombow. i have a big bag of different pens, if i see art pens i nab a few to try out. acrylic paint and water soluble graphite (viarco artgraf) are also a lot of fun, and a lot of the stuff i've made lately is just crayola kiddie markers on crappy little newsprint pads and such. i also sew, sculpt, and mold/cast resin, but i haven't had as much energy or space for that lately due to life stuff. it's not tagged all that well because i'm a dork who doesn't know how to internet
good/meaning - i don't always think it's good but thank you! 😂 ♥️ it has meaning largely because the character himself has meaning for me, so i'm always happy when that telegraphs!

Tombow abt Dual Brush Pen ...? Number rubbed off and god knows where any swatch page might be at this point
Marvy Uchida Le Pen: Periwinkle
Bic Intensity Fine
Might anyone know of any alt to the Periwinkle Le Pen? I think I damaged it or something, the tip is getting to be exacting at its angles 😵

helo my dudes
due to popular demand (aka @spot-the-brooklyn-pirate sending in one (1) ask) I’m making a post about my favorite thing in the world, brush pens!
okay so basically I’m gonna describe each pen, list my personal pros and cons, and probably send amazon links so y’all know what each pen is called and such
up 1st:
the tombow dual brush pen. it’s all over the place, it’s the one you’ll always hear about. and it’s fine, not my favorite, not my least favorite. they do wear out quickly, even though they’re expensive, so that’s something to look out for.
https://www.amazon.com/Tombow-56185-Markers-10-Pack-Blendable/dp/B00JVB8FBA/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=tombow+dual+brush+pen&qid=1568076675&s=office-products&sr=1-4
Tumblr media
crayola supertips/crayola broadline
so these you can both use for hand lettering, I’d recommending a watching a few youtube videos on it, ‘cuz you have to like rotate the pen and stuff, but it’s not that hard to do. plus they’re cheap and you can get them easily! and there’s lots of colors
https://www.amazon.com/Crayola-Washable-Markers-Favorite-Toddlers/dp/B00M4YUE0G/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=OAXVS1IEPGUW&keywords=crayola+supertips&qid=1568064270&s=gateway&sprefix=crayola+super%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUUpSTDhNVEtFU1NUJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDM1MDMwMUFVRVVCQUxHSTZBWSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTgzOTk5MkFSRlZRSVlNUzdVOSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Tumblr media
okay so next is the pentel fude touch. these are small, so a lot of people say they’re easier to control. I like them ‘cuz you can practice without using like 100 sheets of paper. they’re kinda expensive so I’d either only get a small set, to see if you like them, or wait until they’re on sale or something. also don’t take them camping because sand does not do good things to brush pens.
These are one of my most favorite!!!
https://www.amazon.com/Pentel-Assorted-Colors-Marker-SES15CPC12/dp/B01EN0HCH6/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=pentel+fude+touch&qid=1568064255&s=gateway&sr=8-2
Tumblr media
this is the tombow fudenouske, it’s also a small brush pen, but it’s stiffer than the pentel ones, so I personally like it more. you have to press down harder to get a thick stroke, but it makes it a lot easier to get super thin strokes. I had two at one point, (they make a hard tip and a soft tip, and all the colored ones are hard tips) but they dried out, so that is one downside to these.
It’s really good, but I’m not sure about how quickly it’s gonna dry out.
https://www.amazon.com/Tombow-Fudenosuke-WS-BH10C-Assorted-Calligraphy/dp/B07MYDWKTZ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1XFLYO42WV4NC&keywords=tombow+fudenosuke+brush+pen&qid=1568064237&s=gateway&sprefix=tombow+fuden%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A2M8Y98W2SLYUL&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzSVdJUU5URk0xTzgzJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDEzNDY0MzNWNU1aRkU4WDFZOSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDEyNTIxNDgzV0M3QlNYSlBPJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Tumblr media
these are the zebra mildliner brush pens, be careful to make sure you’re buying the brush pens ‘cuz they also make highlighters which look pretty similar. these are really good, they’re kinda like the tombow dual brush pens, but I think they’re a bit easier to control. they make the same sized lettering, though.
These are pretty darn good!
https://www.amazon.com/Zebra-Pen-Mildliner-Highlighter-Assorted/dp/B0752WWCTN/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2G8GRET2VZDGJ&keywords=mildliner+brush+pens&qid=1568064222&s=gateway&sprefix=mildliner%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyUzJCNDI2WjFUWTFVJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjIyMDQ1M1E3M1dKV1RGQTBNSiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjY2MzUyMlNXS05PSEo2MDRHVSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Tumblr media
okay last but not least, these are the marvy colorin brush pens, I really like these. they make a bit smaller lettering than the tombows, and they’re really bouncy and good.
These are my favorite brush pen for larger lettering!!!
https://www.amazon.com/UCHIDA-ColorIn-Marker-Bright-Colors/dp/B01HUJQAL6/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2VGC240NSDM9O&keywords=marvy+uchida+colorin&qid=1568064194&s=gateway&sprefix=marvey+uchida+colo%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-2
Tumblr media
so obviously brush pens are important but you’ve also gotta practice a lot, and youtube is really good for helping you learn, so channels like Ensign Insights and How To Hand Letter are really good, plus they know more about pens than me and they have really good detailed reviews.

Ami Mizuno. (I originally used this picture as a reference but as you can see it turned out different. Nevertheless I like a lot how it turned out :). Despite colouring and shading with markers is still something I don’t know how to do lol. But Marvy Uchida Artist Brushes are gorgeous! (though the lineart is done with Staedler markers))

oh my gosh i just found your borderlands art and i love your style so much!!! i'm especially fascinated by your traditional pen line work since i'm working on being able to do that myself - what kinds of pens do you use? i have way too many but i still want to buy more. i just love pens
Hi! Notifications are broken for me, so if you’ve been waiting for a reply for very long, I’m so sorry about that!! (also thank you
To answer your question, I’m not very picky about the kinds of pens I use in my traditional art! I like to try new stuff out and use whatever happens to be closest to me, my technique more or less stays the same across tools BUT–
–that said, my personal favorite team of pens that I’ve been using for the past year and a half are a set of Microns, the .03 and Brush Marvy Uchida Le Pen Technical Pens, this brush pen, and a pilot juice pen for those really tiny details! This is my go to set of tools that I keep in their own separate pencil case, I’m most familiar with them out of all of my art supplies and I’m pretty fond of them, if that makes sense!
