Favourite episode from each season of Buffy?
Ohohoho, interesting one! Also cruel, due to the fact that I am incapable of making decisions. xDDD
This is also easier to answer due to me making an actual ratings list of all BtVS episodes during my last rewatch. So. Now I just have to actually narrow the highest rated episodes down to one per season.
(But also rereading my one-line summaries of the episodes is like "...so this is what you prioritized for the summary, huh? Really?")
Season 1 would probably be Prophecy Girl. It's such a great finale and I genuinely love the "lol we used CPR to revive her" hack to the having-to-die part about the prophecy. It's a really strong Buffy episode, for her character, and a great wrap on season 1.
Honorary mentions: The Puppet Show, which I've always had a weak spot for that I genuinely can't explain because puppets actually really freak me out. And Nightmares, because it's such a great insight into the characters.
Season 2 is actually harder to decide than season 1. I think I am atcually leaning toward the finale too, Becoming - but it's a two-partes so I'm torn in how far they'd count as one. But I really do love Angelus as a villain and the final show-down between Buffy and Angelus.
Honorary mentions: What's My Line?, because I love Buffy's struggle with the thought of a career and a life outside of slaying, as well as the introduction of Kendra.
Season 3 has even more contestants in the run as highest rated of the season but let's go with: The Wish. I love the concept of alternate realities, I think it's amazing if you look back at this as the introduction to Anya, considering her later on, I like that Cordy got to be angry about what happened and while her anger on Buffy was mildly misplaced I also know why she picked Buffy as the target; ever since she started dating Xander, the Scoobies had become her friends and the fact that out of the three Scoobies, Xander and Willow were the ones who cheated and that only left Buffy, who chose to side with the cheaters over the cheated, I do understand why Cordy was angry at Buffy. Even if I also understand why Buffy stuck with her two best friends. It was very much an episode that focused on the consequences of one's actions. Also vampire!Willow hot.
Honorary mentions go out to: Band Candy for being the most fun and giving me a tiny bit of Giles/Joyce, I loved the role-reversal happening in that episode. And Lovers Walk, because I love my pathetic wet kitten of a vampire.
Season 4 is actually the easiest so far! Only one episode ranked the highest here for me. Something Blue. I love the Spuffy in it, I'm a weak bitch okay, but it's not just "ooh my OTP is engaged!" it is also the ridiculousness of it! The way James and SMG get to play it so over the top! Giles' and Xander's suffering in the background. It's such a fun and delightful episode.
Honorary mentions: Hush, which I know is probably most people's go-to pick for that season but while it's very solid, it just doesn't get me as hard. And Superstar, because I liked how Jonathan was just this kinda recurring character and how utterly ridiculous this alternate reality was - Giles having Jonathan's swim-suit calendar? C'mon.
Season 5 is just impossible! This season is fascinating, because on the episode-rating-average, it'd be my second favorite but if I also factor in the overarching plot, it's my third favorite. And yet either way, it features some of my absolute favorite episodes of the show.
I have to say, hands down, The Body, because that is one of television's all-time best episodes. The feelings, the way grief is handled, the acting in that episode, just absolutely everything, this is such an impactful and painful episode.
But on second place are Fool for Love, because of the insight into Slayers of the past, the Spuffy obviously and also slutty slutty punk!Spike, and Family, which always gets me on the Tara feels, because I love that we got a Tara-centric episode, one that explained a lot about her and one where everyone stood up for her, because the Scoobies that became Scoobies by dating one of the OG members often feel like that exact tie is all they have and this episode took the time to really show that Tara, as a person, outside of her relationship with Willow, matters.
Now, season 6! Not even a contest, nothing can compete with Once More, With Feeling. The emotions in that episode! The singing! The Spuffy! The reveal of Buffy's real thoughts and feelings in front of her family! Favorite (feel-good) episode of the whole show, honestly.
Honorary mentions: Tabula Rasa (which completes my trinity of all time favorite BtVS episodes), because it is so whacky and fun and, again, the Spuffy in it. I just can't get over the fact that Spike, still without a soul, upon realizing that he is a vampire, doesn't go on a killing spree, but gets super excited that hey! hey, Joan, look! I must have a soul! I must be a hero too!! Without a soul and without his memories, that is the conclusion he draws and it delights me (as does the Giles-Spike father-son dynamic). And Normal Again, because that episode really freaks me out (in a good way) and I love this look into Buffy's psyche and the choice she has to make, for herself.
Now, to my favorite season. Tough one. It's probably Lies My Parents Told Me, because I love the confrontation of that episode and, as you may by now be able to guess, the Spuffy.
Honorary mentions: Touched, because of Spike comforting Buffy and Buffy getting her scythe. End of Days for the way Buffy comes in to save everyone's ass after everyone's been an ass to her and proving why she is the Slayer. As well as Chosen, which is just a really great show finale in my opinion.

Just saw you reblogged the otp ask so let me shoot those questions at you, specifically in light of the angsty fragments that you've published: 1, 5, 7 (can you say fishing for spoilers...xdd) and 10. Bc there's not enough angst for me apparently 🥲🍄🖤🍃
lmao straight to the important questions eh?
From this ask
1. What's the biggest wish the members of your otp have for the other? Is it a wish that could come true? Do they actively work towards it?
I feel like Kate wants a passionate life for Charlie, maybe its with dragons or maybe not, but she doesnt want him to lose that enthusiasm and that excitement he gets when discovering new things. I kind of sense that he's always a little bit mocked for being so into dragons that Kate sometimes fears he could lose that spark just because of peer pressure. And of course it comes true! He will always have that fire inside him.
Charlie wishes Kate can get out of that guilt wheel she's been in during the war years. He wants her to have soem peace of mind and for her to find a job she is passionate about. The topic of her not knowing where to work or what to do is getting recurrent in my fics because I just happen to be writing about the War, the time where Kate felt the most confused about her life. But after that is over and they finally talk, she can start working towards that. The in-progress fic is the starting point of that healing process she needs.
5. What's your otp's ideal vision of the future? What would they want to happen? Where would they want to live?
Despite being both troublemakers, or more like trouble finds them, they both want a stable future. Create a home where they can feel safe, where Charlie can hop around with dragons and whatnot, and Kate can calmly dedicate to her research and her herbs and her weird things knowing that bubble they created for themselves is their refuge. They want to be solid and strong and for that to be a constant.
I don't really think they mind where to live. Romania is the easiest choice for now but I've always had this thought in the back of my head that at some point they go to another place because of her work (or his). I don't know, I feel like Charlie would follow her if the circumstances make them make a decision, feeling she deserves chosing a place to live after she left her life in London to go to Romania with him. (I'm giving too much info already). I kinda thought Scotland, Highlands, just bc of the idea of Charlie in a kilt but then it gets a little bit strange (and too close to the Outlander concept), like it doesnt feel right in a way. Anyway, it needs to have lots of nature and dragons and being a little bit far away from their families but not completely isolated.
7. Your otp has to spend some time apart for whatever reason. How would they bridge that time? How would they react upon seeing each other again? Would anything change?
okay. OKAY. I should have seen this one coming because I tend to keep them always apart more time than they are together. But that just happens until the end of the War!
Something that weighs on me is the For A Greater Good reunion. Because its really anti-climatic. I know why I did it but I realised that I didnt write it very well. I plant to fix that on this fic.
However I need to point out that nothing really changes when they are apart. Some people don't really understand this or don't like it, but that's just how I live separations with loved ones, time passes yes, and they will be talking about it for hours but it doesnt change how they feel about each other.
10. If your otp had met at a different point in time/their lives, what would change? Would they still end up together?
I do like the idea of them knowing each other later in life. In fact that was my plan before writing my very first fic about them, but I so fixated in the World Cup (I was reading HP4 at the time) that everything else just...happened.
But yea, I kinda like the idea of them meeting each other in adulthood, with that game of starting to know each other, an aura of mystery around them idk as opposed to the concept of knowing each other perfectly well since forever, which I love as well. Its not likely that Kate would go to Romania just because, so the meeting point should be somewhere they have in common like Hogwarts or Diagon Alley or somewhere near there. They would like each other pretty fast, just like in my current universe, but for sure the kissing would start way earlier lmao. I wouldnt do the enemies to lovers type of thing because it doesnt suit them.

isana yashiro for the ask meme :D
send me a character and i’ll list:
Tumblr media
favorite thing about them: His cunning. For almost all season 1, even without memory he was able to keep up with all the crazy Kingly stuff that were thrown at him: he managed to trick Kuroh to save his own life, he lived in Ashinaka school even if he didn'y belong to that place (also thanks to Neko's illusion), he escaped from both Red and Blue clans. That's really impressive, if you ask me.
least favorite thing about them: his initial naiveness and passiveness. Shiro, or I should say Adolf K. Weismann, are you seriously telling me the army is funding your studies "to make friends"??? Also, I am still not over the fact that he saw what a Damocles Down brought at and he still chose to do nothing about it, even if he was the most expert about the Slates.
favorite line: I'd thought of many "important" lines, as when he say something like how the Lieutenant has shown him both his dream and the reality of it, but then I remembered this scene, which I think captures a trait I like very much about Shiro! xD Kukuri: "You brought a bento?!"
Tumblr media
brOTP: I am a simple woman who loves the old trio Addy-Klaudia-Kokujoji Daikaku. Also Daikaku devoting his whole life to make Addy and Klaudia's dream true? It moves my heart.
OTP: Considering the ending, I'm not even sure if I can say I ship them, if we intend "to ship" as in a romantical way, but I really love Kuroshiro dynamic.
nOTP: I don't have one
random headcanon: I don't have any particular one
unpopular opinion: I'm not very satisfied with his character's arc ending, which is not a criticism to the character himself, but about how the whole resolution of the story was handled. In short, I believe that, compared to the rest of the cast, Shiro got the easiest way to put an end to his arc; even his sacrifice doesn't have any impact on the audience, since we see him all fine like three second after the scene in the alley (imho a case of bad writing).
In ROK the main theme around Shiro is taking responsibilities over what he started by awakening the powers within the Slates, by renouncing to his original dream because he realizes that the way to obtain friends is not about power; but there have been and were other Kings with different beliefs, right or wrong they could be, and Shiro making this big decision for everyone doesn't look to me like just "taking responsibilities", but choosing for everyone, as if he owned the Slates. Idk, I feel like this whole theme could have been handled a lot better in general.
song i associate with them: Audiomachine - Empathy
favorite picture of them:

happy bwc Sam! 🤗 how about the "six of crows" universe for your "send me a fandom" ask? (ignoring the points that don't apply, like fave episodes/seasons, etc.) 💜
happy friday Jo! 💙
Oh no my six of crows obsession has gotten out 👀. Okay disclaimer I usually don’t reread books so its been a few years and this might be boring bc my lack of memory but here we go:
The first character I ever fell in love with:
Inej. If I remember correctly the first book started with her being a total badass leaping over roofs and whatnot and I was like...I want to be her. My love for her only grew but immediately I was all for the badass ninja woman who was this gang leaders right hand (wo)man.
A character that I used to love/like, but now do not:
Hmm I don’t think there is one tbh. I really can’t remember the side characters right now and my opinions on the core 6 were pretty consistent.
A ship that I used to love/like, but now do not:
Hm once again I’m boring but pretty much consistently liked the three main ships across both books.
My ultimate favorite character™:
Definitely Inej. Kaz is close behind but tbh girls usually end up my fav bc I end up relating to them more. Inej is one of my top 5 fav fictional characters in general. Her strength is astounding throughout the book, her sheer willpower. She’s also painted as an opposite to Kaz in that she’s strong without having to shut off her emotions or become cold. She shows that you can be both strong and vulnerable and that’s a lesson so many need in life.
Prettiest character:
Don’t make me choose between Inej and Nina. Wait, the men can be pretty too. All six, they’re all pretty. Impossible decisions.
My most hated character:
Now I’m on the wiki page trying to remember names. Probably Pekka Rollins. There were other big bads but I think of what he did to baby Kaz and lose it. Oh also that bitch who owned the brothel Inej was at.
My OTP:
Kanej
My NOTP:
None I can think of.
Favorite episode scene:
I can’t choose between a few different Kanej ones. One I feel like I emotionally died at was when Kaz was drowning in the first one:
He needed to tell her...what? That she was lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved. That he was twisted, crooked, wrong, but not so broken that he couldn't pull himself together into some semblance of a man for her. That without meaning to, he'd begun to lean on her, to look for her, to need her near. He needed to thank her for his new hat.
Also the Kanej scene where he’s bandaging her in the bathroom (we love a battle couple) and struggling with his PTSD but wants so badly to show her he can be intimate with her. Of course the last Kanej scene.
Okay, wait I lied. Also the scene where Inej is climbing up from some like really hot pipe or something during the heist? Lmao told you it’s been a while. But that scene was so powerful seeing her willpower and believing in herself.
Saddest death:
*spoiler*
Definitely Matthias. While he was probably my least fav of the six, having one of the six die was heartbreaking and especially watching Nina’s loss of him.
Favorite season book:
The first. The second was a good sequel but the heist plot in the first was just cleaner and more exciting.
Least favorite season:
Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate:
I was never involved in the fandom so I’m not sure who people hate but I feel like I didn’t hate anyone who wasn’t a villain so probably no one.
My you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave:
This question is hilarious for soc because they’re all trash and I’d protect them all with my life. Just going to leave this quote here:
Kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?"
"Knife to the throat?" asked Inej.
"Gun to the back?" said Jesper.
"Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina.
"You're all horrible," said Matthias.
shut up Matthias you used to be a bigot
Oh shit I take that back though, Wylan isn’t trash. Sorry baby.
My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave:
All of these poor babies deserved better than what they were handed in life but let’s go with Nina because she didn’t get to be with the guy she loved at the end 🥺
My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship:
All my soc ships are beautiful - no I’m not taking arguments or questions.
My ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship:
Another boring answer but none. While I didn’t ship Matthias/Nina or Jesper/Wylan to the extent I did Kanej, I definitely was more enthusiastic about them than the above statement would imply.

Sooooo I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in actually reading something like this, but I was looking through some of my older Miraculous art and seeing how the designs of my future AU characters have subtly evolved over time, so I wanted to make a post about designing these characters and how/why I made the decisions that I did!
So first off, the birth order! I was originally intending to have the kids born in the order that they’re listed in the Stormy Weather episode:
Tumblr media
...unfortunately, instead of actually looking at the episode to be sure, I just went off memory; I remembered Emma being the second but accidentally mixed up Hugo and Louis. By the time I realized this, the characters were already too cemented in my head to switch them back. ^^” Oh well.
In addition to the above, in my ~10 years of experience with next gen fics/art/OCs (I know, I have a problem), I’ve noticed that a pretty large fraction of the time folks opt for their OTP’s firstborn to be a daughter over a son. Nothing wrong with this, of course (heck, I’m a firstborn daughter myself haha), it’s just so disproportionately common that I thought making Hugo the firstborn instead of Emma might make my version stand out a bit more. ^^
Now with the siblings’ order decided, on to the designs! Starting with our oldest,
Hugo!
Tumblr media
Black hair and green eyes seems to be the most popular design for an Adrienette kid, and for good reason! It’s an appealing combo on its own in addition to using traits from both parents for the most notable genetic features in characters: hair and eyes.
I also wanted to give Hugo some of his own flair though. I think the best next gen characters are recognizable as their parents’ offspring BUT can still stand on their own as unique individuals. One way to help do this is, when available, to draw on extended family rather than only their parents.
Hugo’s strongest example of this (at least as a kid) is his slicked-back hairstyle, which was somewhat inspired by Gabriel’s. The slicked-back style seemed to fit his nerdy personality, but because he is a child and not nearly as uptight as his grandfather, Hugo’s hair is much messier than Gabriel’s, and he often has pieces falling out in the front.
Admittedly I’m not super great at conveying the slicked idea from the front view, but you can see it a bit better in profile:
Tumblr media
Hugo more than either of his siblings also takes after the Dupain side of the family, which isn’t super noticeable as a kid but becomes much more so as he grows up and develops the broad shoulders and strong upper body of Tom and Rolland. He’s not quite as enormous as Tom but is easily the strongest sibling (Louis, meanwhile, is a lanky little noodle like Adrien and Gabriel).
Going along with that, Hugo’s personality has loosened up a bit over time. While I do still draw him in his tucked-in button-up, I’ve also started drawing him in looser styles a bit more, because after all, he is just a goofy kid! This has included anything from using shorts instead of long pants to sometimes wearing just regular ol’ t-shirts instead of his nice button up (on which I rarely actually draw the plaid pattern I initially designed him with because wow it takes forever).
Tumblr media
Funnily enough, this is a bit of the opposite of what happened to Adrien. My first sketches of adult!Adrien from this AU all have his shirt untucked, even whilst teaching, but now I almost always draw it neatly tucked in:
Tumblr media
...interesting, interesting.
Anyways, while Hugo is still very much a little nerd who does quite well in school and LOVES learning about space and astronomy, he’s also a little more goofy and active than he was when I first created him. He’s probably the most athletic of his siblings (though really none of them are exactly jocks) and while he’s not particularly interested in organized competitive sports, he loves a good game of catch or tag. :)
While people in real life obvious wear any color they want, with my OCs I tend to pick a general palette and stick to it though all (or at least most) outfits, for consistency and easy recognizability. Hugo’s palette is mostly greens (for Chat Noir of course! ;) ), dark blues, and warm browns.
Now, onwards to
Emma!
Tumblr media
I decided to make my version of Emma blonde for two reasons: one, it appears to be so in the screencap shown at the beginning of the post, and while Marinette’s imaginations do not necessarily have to dictate how you design your versions of the kiddos, I liked having the consistency.
...plus then some years later Frozer rolled around and showed a blonde (imaginary) Emma again, so like
Tumblr media
...validation ;)
(by complete coincidence they’re even accurate to the color schemes I use kashdfgjsddsafjdf)
And the second is just that, again, most (not all, of course, but a lot) of the other Emmas I’ve seen in the fandom have been dark-haired, so again I thought it’d help mine stand out a bit.
So now with hair color established, it’s time for eye color. Most of the blond-haired Adrienette kids you see have blue eyes, for the same reason that a lot of dark-haired ones have green. Which, as said with Hugo, makes sense, since it’s the hair color of one parent and the eye color of the other. So why didn’t I make Emma’s eyes blue, then?
Well, it’s a bit of a silly reason tbh, but the blond-hair-blue-eyes combo reminded me a little too much of Chloe. ^^” Not that it would cause any parentage concerns, of course, since obviously Marinette is the one who gave birth to her, but the visual similarities still made me go like...eh ^^”
So green eyes it was! Which, of course, made her look a heck of a whole lot like her father.
Tumblr media
But of course, it’s fine to favor one side of the family, but she’s gotta have SOMETHING from Marinette, right? So what other visual could she inherit to show at least some of her mother’s genes?
✧・゚:* F R E C K L E S ! *:・゚✧
And since Marinette’s freckles are so subtle, I decided to make Emma’s a bit more prominent and easily visible.
Actually her freckles have multiplied quite a bit over the years. She’s always had more than Marinette but it used to be confined to just a few on her cheeks and shoulders. Now drawing her is more like DOTS! DOTS EVERYWHERE! with freckles all over her face, down her neck and arms, and even a few on her legs! It is very much her Thing at this point haha
Tumblr media
Freckles everywhere!
As for her hairstyle, the default is a simple headband, but she also sometimes wears it just plain down with no accessories at all (usually when in PJs), or up in pigtails like Marinette’s!
Tumblr media
Those are just the main ones though...really she can do pretty much whatever ^^
Tumblr media
Emma’s outfit palette took a bit more consideration than her brothers’, since I needed it to match the yellow hair (whereas black, as a neutral, can go with just about anything. So I took a minute looking at her established colors--bright green eyes and golden-blonde hair--trying to think of what theme I could used.
The grassy green and sunshine yellow ended up reminding me of warm weather, like a spring or summer morning. The easiest color for that would’ve been green, but I was already using greens for Hugo and didn’t want their schemes to look too similar. Ultimately I decided on pinks, because the pink outfit with the yellow hair reminded me of some nice fresh lemonade! Some bright whites and warm creams/off-whites then added to the cheery, springy theme. ^^
Her original outfit design included some small dots on her collar and pant cuffs, not unlike the inside of Marinette’s jacket, but I don’t really include that detail much anymore for the same reason I rarely draw Hugo in his original plaid.
Lastly but not leastly, onwards to
Louis!
Tumblr media
Thus far we’ve had Hugo, who’s a pretty good visual mix of his parents, and Emma, who takes more after her dad. As such, I figured that it’d only be fair if the third and final kid took more after his mom!
So in many ways Louis looks a lot like a mini male Marinette, right down to the subtle freckles. If Hugo has the most Dupain genes and Emma has the most Agreste genes, Louis probably has the most Cheng genes and has the easiest time convincing people that yes, he is actually 1/4 Chinese (absolutely no one believes Emma when she says this lol...she has to show pictures of her family haha).
We can’t completely ignore the Agreste side of the family though, and in Louis’s case is manifests mostly in his hairstyle which is very similar to Adrien’s, as well as his lean and lanky body type as an adult, very similar to Adrien’s and Gabriel’s (unlike Hugo who, again, is stockier like a less-extreme Tom).
His outfit color scheme is light blues and grays with splashes of red. The blues and grays work well for his shyer, more reserved demeanor, while the splashes of red like the t-shirt hidden under his sweater are like his big imagination! (Like his mother and grandfather, Louis is very much into art and design, though his interest tends to be geared more towards characters and stories than fashion).
Not as much to say about him tbh...he’s “evolved” the least from his original concept and is mostly just the cute baby brother ^^”
Tumblr media
So yeah, there you have it! That was roughly my thought process for creating/designing my little kiddos ^^
Hopefully some of you found this interesting; I enjoy talking about my ideas and stuff so if you ever want to know more or about something else that I do/make, feel free to ask! ^^

So I’ve wanted to write about Maria for a long time and I finally put some of my thoughts into words related to Maria’s character development in season 1, what I think her day to day life is like, and how I think some of the trauma she’s experienced influenced her decisions in the finale. I am very aware that not everyone is going to agree with my analysis, but I’m gonna post it anyways! So here goes...
*****
When I say my RNM OTP is every character x a good therapist it’s only sort of a joke. All of the characters on this show have been through significant traumas, and I want to explore Maria’s trauma a little bit. Hers is, I think, the easiest to overlook, because it’s quieter in some ways, both due to the nature of what she’s been through and because Maria, by her own admission is more comfortable playing the role of “the fun friend” rather than drawing attention to her hardships. [Please note: I am not interested in playing the Trauma Olympics here. This is a discussion of Maria’s experiences, not an effort  to rate her trauma as greater or less than anyone else’s].
The most obvious source of trauma for Maria is of course her mother’s illness. I also think Maria was greatly affected, like most other characters on this show, by Rosa’s death, combined with having Liz and Alex leave Roswell shortly thereafter. On top of that there’s the trauma of the relentless racism she experiences running a bar in a town that she says “rejected everything about her.”
We get a glimpse of the racism Maria encounters, in Maria’s initial introduction, in which Racist Hank lives up to his name as Maria wraps up his psychic reading. We get the sense that hearing this casual racism is a normal occurrence for her. The conspiratorial way he talks to her, as though they would be in agreement about this point, surely disgusts her, but there’s not much she can do. Putting up with this racist crap is the cost of doing business in Roswell.
As we later learn, Maria quite literally cannot afford to call this out or offend these racist assholes, because she has to save every penny from the bar and each psychic reading to keep the bar and pay for doctors for her mother. If she kicked every racist in this town out of her bar, she’d have to shut down within the week [In fact in nearly every scene in the bar, we see Wyatt Long or Racist Hank, so this is a constant]. The most she can do is to make reference to it in a somewhat lighthearted way (You’re not distracting me from my money with your thinly veiled racism). But being rational about it, doesn’t mean that this crap doesn’t wear down her soul a little bit more every day. I’d bet it feels pretty dehumanizing for her as she certainly must hear racist shit directed at her on the regular as well, and likely doesn’t have a support system of black friends to confide in or bitch to, given that she expresses that Roswell often has made her feel isolated as a black person (I literally thought we were the only black people in the world).
In fact, we see over the course of the season that Maria’s support system in general seems to be pretty limited. She doesn’t mention any family outside of her mom, or any friends other than Liz and Alex, both of whom have been gone for 10 years. It’s possible of course that Maria has a vibrant social life happening off screen, but given how she describes her work and home life, it seems unlikely she’d have time for one. Liz references her working long hours at the bar and “doing the psychic thing”, which probably doesn’t leave her a lot of time for a social life. She’s likely working most evenings and weekends, and caring for her mom the rest of the time. If she did once have lots of friendships, they’ve likely faded as she probably has to say no to most social engagements because she’s working. We also don’t know much about her love life, other than she engages in some amount of casual sex (she suggests to Liz that ‘random sex, different guy’ may be a good solution for her) and we know that she dated some dude named Chad and it ended badly. It’s possible casual sex is all she really has time for, given all of her other responsibilities. Given her lack of support system. I’d imagine Maria has been pretty lonely, particularly before Liz and Alex came back to town.
I also think it’s possible that Maria closed herself off a bit to friendship after Rosa’s death. That must have been an extremely traumatic experience for her. We know Maria was possibly even closer friends with Rosa than she was with Liz. Though she refers to Liz as her “high school BFF”, it’s clear Rosa and Maria had their own bond, separate from Liz (I was hoping you would help me learn some of her secrets. Things she wouldn’t tell me. Things she’d only tell you). She speaks of Rosa with a sense of hero worship (and you can see that on her face in their one flashback scene) and it’s clear that she hasn’t let go of Rosa over the past 10 years. We know she still visits Rosa’s memorial (I saw what you left at Rosa’s memorial) and has left her little hiding place in the Wild Pony untouched (I just didn’t want to invade her privacy). She still considers Rosa her family and mourns her all these years later. 17 is such a formative age, and losing someone close to her at that age likely affected her greatly (I head canon that Maria had a crush on Rosa, but whether she did or not, her grief is just as valid ).
And then on top of one of her best friends dying tragically, Maria loses two more of her closest friends within a few months. Liz peaces out, likely within days, and it’s implied she doesn’t keep in touch with Maria at all. Though Maria was likely somewhat prepared for Liz leaving on her road trip and then for college, she for sure wasn’t prepared for radio silence. And though we don’t know exactly what Alex’s plans were before he joined the Air Force, I’m guessing him leaving for boot camp was a shock for Maria too. So at 17-18, she loses Rosa, Liz, and Alex in quick succession, while she’s left behind in Roswell.
We don’t know what Maria’s hopes and dreams were in high school, but we do know that staying in Roswell likely wasn’t her freely made choice. The timeline of Mimi’s illness is unclear, so we don’t know when Mimi needed Maria to run things completely and look after her, but I think it’s likely that even before her mother’s illness, it was determined that Maria needed to stay in Roswell to help with the family business. She didn’t have the option to leave. It must have been hard being in Roswell without her three best friends, and then on top of that, sometime in those ten years, her mother got sick and then EVERYTHING was on Maria’s shoulders with little support.
This brings us to Mimi’s illness, which is obviously traumatic for Maria. It’s baffling and exhausting and depressing and constant. She’s struggling to figure out what is going on, while being stymied by financial difficulties (we’re doing just about anything for a buck) and a racist medical system (I can’t tell you how many rich, white doctors have not so subtly implied she’s faking). She refuses to give up hope, and she’s grasping at any straw she can to help (like going to the faith healer) but there’s nothing she can do because her mom’s illness doesn’t make any sense (and is likely alien related). And through it all she doesn’t even feel like she’s entitled to anger, because she’s trying to be the kind of person her mom would want her to be. Her mom is slipping away from her day by day, and it feels like she’s losing parts of herself too. She thinks everything she likes about herself comes from her mom, and is terrified about what life will look like if her mother no longer has even bouts of lucidity. It’s enough to make anyone want to scream and break things, or curl up and sob and never get out of bed, but Maria doesn’t have that luxury. She has to get up every day to keep the bar running, to make sure her mom doesn’t wander away again, and to search for any possible answer to her mother’s afflictions, and god it just sounds so difficult and demoralizing.
And yet, even with everything going on and all the plates Maria has to keep spinning she is still a kind and supportive friend. She gives Liz grief for like two seconds for being gone and out of touch for ten years, before welcoming her back with open arms (literally). Throughout the season, she acts as an ear to listen when Liz needs her. She teases Alex, and gives him free drinks when he stops by the bar. She goes out of her way to make grumpy Max Evans smile, even when she’s having a terrible day herself. I wrote once in a fic that “Maria DeLuca is sunshine” and she really is. She shines so brightly and makes the lives of people around her better.
But like I wrote once about Kyle, the other caretaker on this show, I do think despite the fact that she manages it sometimes, it is hard for Maria to ask for help. This is not to say that Liz and Alex don’t support her, because they absolutely do. It’s clear that Alex is aware of Mimi’s health issues prior to 1x07 and does what he can to help. Once Alex spurs Liz into motion, she tries to be there for Maria in the ways she knows how (wanting to call a friend about a clinical trial) and then when that’s not what Maria wants, she visits the faith healer with her. But I think Maria doesn’t want to feel like a burden, and maybe she doesn’t even know what she needs, so she shoulders most of it herself. With her psychic intuition, she likely knows that Liz and Alex are going through difficulties as well, and doesn’t feel like adding to that, especially when she doesn’t think there’s anything that can be done to make it better and it all feels helpless.
All of this is SO MUCH for a 28 year old to manage, and Maria must be run absolutely ragged. Given all that, I really do understand why she turned to Michael in the season finale.
Because as @chasingshhadows wrote in this meta, there has been a steady progression to the relationship between Michael and Maria throughout season one. Michael has been likely been a consistent presence in her life for 10 years, and she’s definitely thought about sleeping with him even before the events of the show. (She thinks he’s riffraff sure, but sex in a truck, smells like a river, never introduce him to your mama, slips right off her tongue. She’s thought about it, probably mostly at the end of the night when she’s a little tipsy. Probably the only reason it hasn’t happened yet is that Michael usually ends up in a fight and arrested before the end of the night.)
Then, in 1x07 and 1x11 he shows up for her. And he does so in a way that really works for her. Michael is just there. In 1x07 he lets her sit in her grief, he doesn’t try to fix it, doesn’t try to make her explain, he just comforts her. And then in 1x09 they hook up, and as antagonistic as she is after, it’s clear she likely expected they would again. It’s clear from the way she says “It can never happen again” in 1x10 and how her face falls afterwards. But once she knows Alex and Michael kissed in high school and that Alex is feeling hopeful (which is the extent of what she knows. Which, I mean that Alex is feeling hopeful after the conversation in 1x09 just reminds me of how accurate this gifset is), she doesn’t feel like she can give in to her feelings for Michael, even though she clearly wants to.
But then 1x11 happens, and at another time when she’s vulnerable, Michael is there for her. After seeming genuinely hurt by her rejection, showing that he’s interested in more than a hookup, he’s kind and caring. He shows that even though she has rejected him twice, he’s still going to be there for her as a friend. This softens her resolve. Which brings us to 1x13, where after another long night working at the bar until close (on a night where maybe she had to deal with a dead guy in her parking lot? Racist Hank was killed by Noah in the Wild Pony parking lot, right? Or did I make that up?), Michael walks into her bar, looking fucking exhausted, just like she probably feels most days, but a little hopeful too. I understand why, she can’t bear to turn him away. Not when they’ve connected in a way she seemingly hasn’t with anyone else in a while, not when she’s likely been feeling pretty lonely and overwhelmed, and not when she has accepted she has feelings for him. I see why, given all the responsibilities she has to shoulder, she’d reach for something that feels good and will maybe let her put her worries out of her head for just a little while. She knows reality will come barging back in soon enough (that’s why she tells him they need to talk) and she’ll have to deal with the fallout, but in that moment, I get why she would choose to ignore the complications for just a bit, and let herself have what she wants.
I’ve read (and written) meta about how the things Michael and Alex’s have been through help explain the actions they take that sometimes hurt each other and that ultimately lead to the “love triangle”, and I think Maria’s circumstances influence her decisions too. And just like I’ve written with regards to Michael and Alex, while I believe past trauma can help explain and help others understand behaviors and choices made, the fact that a behavior or a choice is influenced by trauma doesn’t require those hurt by those behaviors or choices to excuse or forgive them. There is no question that Maria’s decision in the finale will hurt Alex, and just because her circumstances and everything she’s been through help explain why she made these choices, that doesn’t mean Alex needs to forgive her. [Just like even though Alex’s past trauma helps explain why Alex pushed Michael away, it doesn’t mean Michael is required to forgive him when he’s been hurt by this, or that Alex is required to forgive Michael for decisions that were influenced by his past trauma that have hurt Alex. I hope everyone does ultimately, but it is not a requirement just because the actions were influenced by trauma] In my opinion, there are no villains here. Just imperfect people, who have all been through a lot, who sometimes, in their efforts to cope, end up hurting each other.
So all this to say, I have a lot of empathy for Maria and where her story ended in season 1. She, like so many characters on the show has been through the ringer, and has a lot to work through. I hope the girl can catch a break in season two, though I think it’s unlikely. I’m excited to watch her character grow if March would ever get here.

6, 9, 13 for any of your OTPs? :))
Thank you, my friend, and I pick silly bunny boy pyromage and broody bear king.
6. Least favorite canon moment of them? That’s tough because I wrote them all, haha! So if I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t have written it... I even like it when they argue; it’s realistic; people argue. Maybe the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been was in a recent scene when Casien honestly did something very stupid and seriously endangered his own life and the lives of others. Ulfric was so furious, because Casien lied to him, even though his intentions for doing so were good, but most importantly, he almost died. And that poor king of his was shook, so after yelling at each other for a few minutes, Ulfric left the room, slamming the door behind him, and ordered the guard stationed there to not let Casien out until he said so. That was very, very wrong of him. In that moment, he greatly abused the power he holds over his partner. Yes, he was worried, and hurt, and upset, but most of the time he is cognizant of their respective positions, and he doesn’t abuse his own. But in that moment, he had a not so great moment, I’d say.
9. Favorite aspect of them/their relationship dynamics?Uh, where do I begin? I love everything about them, haha! Okay, well, although this is naturally true of any couple I write, what I particularly like is the respect and admiration they have for one another. Casien sees that Ulfric is constantly doubting himself and his decisions, and that his position in life has become a rather heavy burden for him. But Casien does everything he can to show Ulfric that he thinks he’s a good man, a good king, and that he loves him, admires him, and respects him greatly. Conversely, Ulfric is well aware that Casien sees himself as unimportant and unworthy. This breaks his heart utterly, because in his lover he sees an absolutely brilliant, warm, beautiful person whom he respects, loves, and admires more than anyone else. I think because of their many differences - age, race, position in society, etc. - the fact that they love and respect one another so much is really important in their relationship.
13. How hard is it to write/draw your pairing? Scale of 1-10.Draw: 1/10 cause I can’t draw D:
Write: 10/10 !! This has literally been the easiest story I’ve ever written. I honestly can’t get over it. During the summer, when I wasn’t working, there were times when I’d write a whole chapter in a day. And my chapters average about 5,000 words a piece. Their conversations together just flow. The only difficult part for me is when I have to write something with a little more action (such as a battle or confrontation), or when I have to dabble in a genre I’m not comfortable with (when Casien was lost in the Apocrypha I tried to channel horror, but I don’t think I saw successful). Sometimes I will linger over those bits for days, only typing a few paragraphs at a time, because it’s tough. But when they’re together? 10/10. No, 100/10. I could write 8 pages of these two just talking.

Bangel Fic Recs: IWRY Spotlights
Tumblr media
The 2018 I Will Remember You Marathon is almost here!!! Just a week to go before a whole new round of B/A goodness...
To whet your appetite for Buffy/Angel fic, here's a roundup of all the stories we've recommended over the last few months for IWRY Spotlight Sunday. We'll be taking a break from the Spotlight for November to devote our attention to the new crop of amazing stories! Happy reading!
Title: Damnation’s Castaway Awakening Author: KairosImprimatur ( @kairosimperative ) Words: 5,053 Published: 2013 Summary: Angel’s back from Hell. Buffy does what she can. Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Why it’s great:  The story provides some great insight into Buffy’s conflicted emotions during the time period in which Angel came back from hell. - @mrsgordo84
Title: All Souls’ Day Author: Spiralleds Words: 8,876 Published: 2005 Summary: Not knowing has taken its toll on Buffy and leads to something she never thought she’d do. Rating: Explicit Why it’s great: This is the perfect post-NFA one-shot. It manages to cover so much ground, it’s believable, it’s sexy and it’s just beautiful. This story holds a special place in my heart because it was the first Buffy/Angel fic I read that really worked for me — the character voices, the setup, the payoff, all of it. I’m sure it was well-received when it kicked off the IWRY Marathon in 2005, because it was awarded “Best Romance” and it was a Readers’ Choice Winner for “Best Overall Story.” - @gracenm
Title: Would They Go On Aching Still Author: fluffernutter8 (@theawkwardterrier ) Words: 2,281 Published: 2017 Summary: Angel is there before Buffy dies and after she comes back.  Rating: Teen and Up Why it’s great: This story is an honest look at Buffy’s depression and how that might have played out if Angel were around. I personally love this writer’s authentic characterizations of Angel and Buffy. Every line of their conversation feels meaningful and incredibly believable. - @mrsgordo84
Title: Gamble on Destiny Author: Leni ( @leni-ba ) Words: 10K Published: 2008 Summary: AU ‘The Wish.’ Suppose Angel avoided getting staked, and then managed to save Buffy from the Master. The story starts an hour after the worst of the battle has passed. Rating: PG-13 Why it’s great: This is so gorgeously written that it takes my breath away, with lines like: “She doesn’t know yet. How he’s walked into hell for the hope of her…” It’s a wonderful technical accomplishment as well, consisting of 100 drabbles of 100 words each. But best of all, it perfectly captures the longing, heartache, love and deep connection that is Buffy/Angel. - @gracenm
Title: Five Ways Buffy and Angel Never Meet and Never Have To Say I Love You  Author: LAndrews Words: 10,645 Published: 2007 Summary: Buffy and Angel never met again after “Not Fade Away”. But if they had, here’s five different ways it might have happened. Rating: Explicit Why it’s great: This story was the 2007 winner of IWRY Marathon Best Overall Fic. The writer imagines five different scenarios in which these two lovers might have met post-NFA. All of the stories are creative and respect the complexity of the Buffy and Angel dynamic. Additional bonus points because this fic is incredibly steamy. One of my personal favorites. - @mrsgordo84
Title: Dancing With Death Author: Taaroko @taaroko Words: 30,422 Published: 2016 Summary: It’s NYC in 1927. Angelus is a private-eye who’s trying to make up for his grisly past. It’s not the most reliable profession for keeping the bills paid and the icebox stocked with blood, and he’s beginning to lose track of how many times he’s been dumped in the Hudson with cinder blocks strapped to his feet, but someone has to do it. Rating: Teen & Up Why it’s great: Detective Angel goes really old-school in this amazing 1920s noir. This story is clever, funny and romantic, with great roles for many of the other BtVS/AtS characters as well. One of the best B/A AUs out there! - @gracenm
Title: Weight of Life Author: Anna ( bite_or_avoid ) Words: 4,417 Published: 2009 Summary: Absolution is not his to have. Post-NFA Rating: Mature Why it’s great: This story won the 2009 IWRY Marathon “Best Happily Ever After” which gives you an idea of what to expect but if you think this is going to be some fluff piece, you would be wrong. This is my favorite line: “She has never abandoned residence in his heart, as permanent and unchanging as everything about him, but memory had replaced reality for a while. In this moment, there is nothing more real than her.” The talented author does a great job of exploring issues of guilt, and not just where Angel is concerned. - @mrsgordo84
Title: Wish Your Heart Makes Author: Viola Claire Words: 1,177 Published: 2005 Summary: He’d told himself he wouldn’t dream of Buffy, and he’d known he would. Set during Nightmares. Rating: PG Why it’s great: Sometimes an author slots something into canon so well that you almost forget it didn't happen! That’s the case for me with Viola Claire’s masterpiece of a missing scene, Wish Your Heart Makes, which adds Angel seamlessly into the Season 1 episode Nightmares. - @gracenm
Title: A Ghost Story Author: Moscow Watcher Words: ~3,700 Published: 2007 Summary: What if Buffy wore the amulet? Rating: PG Why it’s great: You don’t have to ship B/A as your OTP to write a heck of a good story about them. This author is a Spuffy fan and they participated in the IWRY marathon for many years. I have always really enjoyed this story. It is a little sad, yet also really fun and flirty. It also creatively inserts Buffy in some scenes of AtS s5. - @mrsgordo84
Title: Give Thanks (Forgive Despair) Author: escritoireazul Words: 2,779 Published: 2009 Summary: There are many ways to hurt and even more to love. Rating: Teen and Up Why it’s great: This series of vignettes visits Buffy during three Mays and three Novembers spanning from 1996 to 2004. I love the scenes with Faith and with Kendra just as much as those with Angel. escritoireazul’s writing manages to be sweet and painful and lovely all at once. It’s a story worth giving thanks for! - @gracenm
Title: Bodiless Within The Bodies Author: tkp (lettered) Words: 2,682 Published: 2005 Summary: Buffy’s in L.A. when Angel’s dead, then Angel comes back to life; Angel’s in Tibet when Buffy’s dead, then Buffy comes back to life. Rating: Teen and Up Why it’s great: This story was the winner of the 2005 award for Best Drama. This author is a true wordsmith and there is a certain chaotic beauty in this particular story. It is an exquisite exploration into Buffy and Angel’s minds during their respective deaths and resurrections. There is an interesting symmetry, not only in the subject matter of the story but in the writing style itself. - @mrsgordo84
Title: Talk Like Lions Author: wesleysgirl Words: 5,080 Published: 2006 Summary: It’s Buffy’s turn to remind Angel how to be strong. Rating: NC-17 Why it’s great: This story, in which Buffy travels to comfort Angel in the wake of Not Fade Away, is quietly beautiful. There’s grief and tension and a strong sense of the powerful connection between Buffy and Angel. It’s easy to see why it was winner of the Reader’s Choice for Drama in 2006. - @gracenm
Title: Intermezzo Author: Maren Words: 3,936 Published: 2006 Summary: Intermezzo: a short dramatic, musical, or other entertainment of light character, introduced between the acts of a drama or opera. Rating: PG Why it’s great: I always recommend this fic and I can’t believe it has taken me this long to recommend it to through our spotlight. I think of all of the post-NFA fics I have read it is the one I find the most believable in terms of the continuation of the story for Buffy and Angel. It was the 2006 Winner of the Reader’s Choice for Happily Ever After! - @mrsgordo84
Title: The Lull Author: Dark Star Words: ~1100 Published: 2007 Summary: Sometimes the easiest decisions are the hardest to make. This story is set between Choices and The Prom. Rating: R Why it’s great: This story examines Angel’s state of mind before the breakup in The Prom, and a close call that may have influenced his decision. It’s angsty and sexy and very B/A. - @gracenm

Title: Built to Last Author:  vatrixsta ( @vatrixsta ) Words: 5,625 Published: 2009 Summary: In every moment of decision, different worlds are born. Rating: PG-13 Why it’s great: A wonderful story of "what if" and a winner of the 2009 Best Romance. The author paints such an interesting little world for our favorite couple. And I especially love the end! - @mrsgordo84
Title: A Brief History of Time (A Love Story) Author: thecarlysutra Words: 6,824 Published: 2008 Summary: Now she realizes that, had they never met, she wouldn’t be. She’d be some other girl, some other Buffy. Set in the “Birthday”-verse. Takes place somewhere around season five or six Buffy time. Rating: Mature Why it’s great: This story takes a concept that I wasn’t a big fan of in canon (the alternate universe in the AtS Season 3 episode Birthday) and explores it brilliantly — with a B/A focus, of course. I don’t think you can read this story just once! - @gracenm
Title: Another Minute Author: GraceNM @gracenm Words: 2,248 Published: 2017 Summary: She doesn't remember, but she'll never forget. Set after the episode "I Will Remember You." Rating: Teen and Up Why it’s great: This has to be one of my favorite stories to use the IWRY episode as a backdrop. It explores Buffy’s tattered feelings following her run-in with Angel. Grace also paints a beautifully heartbreaking picture of Angel’s despair. The end is the very definition of bittersweet. It’s absolute perfection. - @mrsgordo84
Title: The Future Belongs Author: fluffernutter8 ( @theawkwardterrier ) Words: 6,668 Published: 2017 Summary: The Tribunal has different ideas about the rules. AU from ATS 2x01, Judgement. Rating: General Audiences Why it’s great: This story brings Buffy to LA to help guard Jo, the pregnant woman introduced in Judgement (and played memorably by Justina Machado of One Day at a Time). As always, fluffernutter8 provides an achingly lovely and engaging take on Buffy and Angel, perfectly depicting their tentative post-breakup relationship. The dialogue is stellar and 100% Buffyverse! - @gracenm
Title: When I Kiss You Author: angelus2hot @angelus2hot Words: 724 Published: 2016 Summary: Set during Season 2 Episode 5 Reptile Boy. Angel tries to fight temptation. Rating: Teen and Up Why it’s great: This is a steamy little story that gives me a new found appreciation for that notorious line of “when you kiss me, I want to die.” The author does a great job of capturing the longing and the sexual tension between these two! - @mrsgordo84
Title: Prom Author: Mrs Gordo ( @mrsgordo84 ) Words: 3,485 Published: 2017 Summary: A peak at a possible future. Rating: General Audiences Why it’s great: I have never been able to read through this story without grinning like an idiot the whole time. It’s just so satisfying to imagine Buffy and Angel together in the future and happy. Mrs Gordo puts in a million little delighting and enchanting details in just a few thousand words. It’s definitely the cure for your Bangel heartache! - @gracenm

last night i wasn’t particularly eloquent in my dying whale noises about kabby angst so i’m gonna try again and here’s the thing:
marcus kane is a desperate man at this point. they are on the verge of war (again), diyoza is an unstable ally, octavia is bat shit crazy, raven is collared, he probably suspects echo is there for some reason other than running from wonkru, and abby is a drug addict. and this is not counting that they are surrounded by violent criminals from 2 centuries ago.
marcus kane has no control over any of that.
in the midst of things we might see abby’s addiction as the lesser evil. she is functioning, after all...
she is functioning. but the thing with addiction is that you’re not free. you’re constantly seeking the thing that makes you feel at least ok and the more you get, the more you need just to feel ok, to the point nothing else really matters. in other words, you’re easily manipulated and your sense of right or wrong is out of whack. abby is functioning but she is not in control of herself, her needs, or her emotions.
what is probably frustrating marcus the most is that diyoza is in control of this situation. diyoza is giving her the pills and she has no interest in stopping her addiction since that’s the easiest way to keep her under the thumb. and since she is in control of abby she controls kane too. because he loves her to the point of fighting in an arena in her stance! marcus kane has no agency whatsoever in the status quo unless abby comes back to herself and gets clean.
he’s not wrong for demanding  she quits the drug.
unfortunately, he has run out of options to offer her as bargaining chip to get clean so it’s ‘me or the pills’ and it hurts! it hurts! so much OMG! marcus kane is a desperate man because the love of his life is losing herself to drugs and he can’t do a damn thing about it! so he forces her hand... tough love. and he has to watch as she thinks about it and doesn’t answer right away! how painful is it to see your partner struggling to make a decision like that knowing she would have picked you a thousand times over if it wasn’t for the drug...
is he abandoning her for this? of course not. marcus kane loves abby griffin so fucking much! (remember the fighting in the pit, yeah, THAT much!)
and here we’re back to the thing with addiction: it’s not that she doesn’t love him enough to ditch the drug on the spot, or that she loves her pills more... abby doesn’t have a plan aside: ‘if i don’t shake and vomit and feel like crap for days i can keep working for diyoza and this will protect marcus’ but she’s not really doing that, she’s just... functioning on her basics, deluding herself like drug addicts do... she does love him as much as he loves her, she knows (and he knows), she just cannot see the effects the drug has on herself. she can’t be objective about it, not yet... and she cannot answer ;_; because she convinced herself she is doing this for him as well! ;_; oh lord take me now!!!!
i’m sure the breaking point will come it’s just not now. oh gods this hurts so much ;_; it was so painful to watch unfold and so perfectly acted out i just ;_; love ;_; my ;_; OTP ;_; (and paige and ian)
tldr: kabby is not doomed, they love each other too much, they can mend this too, stay tuned
also, kids don’t do drugs, you will be terrible to the people you love and put through hell the people who love you

I'm just gonna send you a request every time you reblog a prompt thing because I enjoy the heck outta your writing, I hope you know ;) On that note, can you write something with #13 on the OTP Drabble Challenge? If you aren't completely sick of writing DarkYan fics for me by now then that pairing would be appreciated ;w;
AHH, that means so much to me, thank you!!! And I will NEVER get sick of writing DarkYan fics, I hope you like this one @juju-on-that-yeet
#13: “You’re lying, you’re blushing.” - “Shut up, no I’m not!”
Yan realizes a little too late that sometimes he shouldn’t do whatever the older egos tell him to do.
It’s not his fault, necessarily; he’s the youngest in the family of egos, literally and mentally.  He’s still confused with the whole “you’re a figment based off a character type”, especially when that character type is an unstable, murderous high schooler with obsessive crushes.  He’s got the least experience, and he looks up to the older egos who have existed before him, especially Wilford and Dark.  And he’s still in that phase where he wants to impress them all and make them proud, whether it be his latest murdering spree or passing a test.
So when Bim had approached him, asking for help in pranking Dark, he never even considered saying no.
But then Bim told him that it would be his job to lure Dark out of his office, and into one of the meeting rooms they used often; the show host told Yan to have Dark in that room at a certain time for the prank to work.  He gave Yan his most charming smile before racing down the hall and disappearing around the corner. Yandere stared after him, brows burrowed in confusion and mouth formed into a cute pout.  Bim hadn’t even explained what the prank was going to be.
However, he had a mission, and he refused to let anyone down.  According to the time Bim gave him, he only had about ten minutes to trick Dark into following him.  He could do this.  All he had to do was fool the most manipulative, deceptive…(attractive)…powerful…intimidating ego.  Could he do this?
Yan fidgeted with his skirt as he thought over what exactly he could do to get Dark to follow him.  How easily could Dark spot a lie?  Yandere knew he was a great liar; he had to be to get away with the things he’s done.  He’s been learning from Wilford how to deceive people using only his words; it isn’t much, but it’s just enough to get any suspicion off his back.  Yan would like to think that he was a confident person, but when it came to Dark he just…freezes up.  Hell, Dark was his idol; he was exactly what Yan wanted to be, strong and brave and perfect.  And until he became that person, he would continue to act like a flustered and giggly high schooler whenever Dark was nearby.
“It’s now or never, you can do this.” Yan whispered to himself before he headed for Dark’s office.  He almost chickened out a couple times on the walk there, but his pride and stubbornness wouldn’t let him give in to self-doubt.  Bim and whoever else was in on the prank was counting on him, and he wouldn’t let them down.  He could lie to Dark, he’s Yandere for god’s sake; he’s killed more people than he can count while still looking fashionable and adorable.  He smirked to himself as Dark’s office door came into sight, and he marched up and confidently knocked on the door.  Why was he so worried about this?  He can do this!
Dark opened the door, his dark aura flowing lazily behind him; he looked down at Yan with a raised brow, effortlessly showing his dominance.
Oh god, he can’t do this.  Yan can already feel his face getting warm under Dark’s gaze, and he coughed nervously into his fist.  He could feel Dark’s stare on him, so he shyly kept his head down and away from Dark’s analytical eyes.  He could feel himself shaking a little under the pressure, and he had to remind himself that he needed to breathe.
“Yandere, what brings you here?” To Yan’s surprise, Dark spoke gently, a tone that he knows Dark doesn’t use for anyone.  He’s heard Dark speaking to the others, and it’s almost always in a condescending manner that leaves them feeling inferior.  But Dark isn’t speaking to him like that.  If anything, Yan could detect a hint of…fondness?  Was Dark just in a good mood, or was it because of Yandere?
“H-Hi Dark, I was…I-I was wondering if you could help me with my homework?”  And, ok, that was probably the most pathetic lie he’s ever told.  But he was put on the spot because he forgot to think of a game plan, and because it was Dark.  He didn’t stand a chance!  Yan peeked up to see Dark’s reaction, biting his bottom lip nervously.  He could feel himself get more flustered when he saw Dark was smiling down at him, eyes glinting with amusement because he clearly knew that Yan was lying to him.  Could this get more embarrassing?
“Is that so?” Yan nodded, and Dark couldn’t help but laugh.  Yan’s head shot up when he heard Dark laughing, and he pouted at the older ego, face heating up in embarrassment.  It was bad enough that they both knew he was lying, but for Dark to laugh at him?  At least he had a nice laugh; it made this a little less torturous for Yan.
“You’re lying, you’re blushing.” Yan glared at the darker ego.  He tried to come off as intimidating, but with his flustered face and poor lying skills, he knew it wasn’t working.
“Shut up, no I’m not!” Yan was clearly too ruffled up to think twice about telling Dark to shut up, and Dark knew that if it was any other ego he would have dropped them into his void already.  But Yan wasn’t just any other ego…he was something to Dark, though he didn’t know what exactly.  Hopefully something good.
“If you are going to lie to me, little one, then you need to try harder than that.  Whose been teaching you to lie like this?”
“…Wil.” Dark rolled his eyes, but he took a step back and opened his office door more.  An open invitation for Yandere to come inside.  With Dark.  Alone.  “That won’t do.  If that’s your best work then you’re going to eventually get caught.  Here, come inside and we can work on it together; the first thing we’re going to work on is your blushing.”
Dark reached out a hand to Yandere, it was such a casual gesture that didn’t match the cold, merciless ego standing in front of him.  He was smiling softly, barely perceivable, but Yan could see the slight curve of his mouth.  The younger ego weighed his options carefully as he stared at Dark’s outstretched hand.  He could decline and apologize to the other egos for his failure to lure Dark to them, or he could spend some time alone with his idol.  This was the easiest decision Yan’s ever had to make in his life.
He giggled happily and accepted Dark’s hand, letting the older ego pull him into the office.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
Cloud and Tifa. I just do not, in any way, see it lasting long. Cloud is a very self-involved character, which is the result of much of the plot of FF7 being about his internal struggle. It makes for great existential questioning. However, it makes for really shitty relationship material.
Cloud’s always stuck in his head. He doesn’t communicate, and that’s not a good thing in a relationship. What’s more, whether or not you ship Cloud/Aeris, you have to admit that he is... well, downright obsessed with the idea of her, and his failure in regards to her. In the OG, it looked like he was beginning to move on from that towards the end, but then AC, in an attempt to give the story drama, decided to continue his obsession with her. So, if he’s still constantly beating himself up about a dead woman two years later while actively pushing away the one he’s in a romance with, then it’s time to end that relationship. I get grief, but I don’t get Cloud’s infatuated self-indulgence with his guilt complex.
Oh, also Rikku/Auron from FFX. That one’s just godamn creepy.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I can’t think of one off the top of my head. There’s things I don’t ship that the fandom has, but I have an easy solution for that. If I don’t ship it, I don’t consume it.
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
Hrmm. This one’s difficult. But at the same time, ridiculously easy. I’d give the OG a tighter ending, remove a few of the unanswered questions while still maintaining the open end... and then not continue it. No Compilation. The fate of the world, whether humanity survives or not, would be unanswered.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
The easiest question for me to answer, but I think next to no one will agree. Rude/Tifa, hands down, and it reflects in some of my writing.
Rude’s not a good person. He’s not evil, but he’s not good. He’s cold, he’s driven, he’s merciless. He does his job.
Except when in regards to Tifa. It’s a neat little Easter egg, but whenever you fight Rude, he will never attack Tifa so long as there is another option for him available. He will always attack one of the other two party members instead. The only instance where he’ll attack her is if she’s the last person standing, and even then, he pulls his punches. He never uses his magic attacks against her.
Now, it can be argued a few different ways why. Some may look on it as a patronising stance of him not wanting to hurt her because he looks down on her or some such bullshit, but... I don’t buy that for a second. Let’s face it. Rude is a Kung Fu badass. Of course he’s going to be attracted to a woman who can kick the crap out of him.
Now, why is this “pure” to me? Because he never forces it on her in the canon. He never tells her his feelings, never tries to explain or justify or sell himself to her. He doesn’t try to convert her, or woo her, or any of that. He recognizes that they’re on opposite sides of the fence, and may or may not know about her relationship status has been switched to “It’s Complicated” with Cloud. And as a result, he never makes a move. He’s content to feel what he feels, and not pursue it out of respect for their own separate life decisions.
I think a lot of people who think the “friend zone” is some ultimate area of doom and hellish entrapment could sit down and learn a thing or two from Rude (And I even address that in one of my fics, linked above and also here.)

50 through 55 for the DA asks?
50. Describe your perfect playthrough for any DA game.I really loved Jhera’s canon playthrough tbh: She made peace between the Dalish and the werewolves, helped save Denerim’s elves from slavery in Tevinter, murdered a lot of fuckboy shems, got the Dalish some actual territory, and married her almost-assassin. Honestly, horrible wasting illness aside, Jhera has it the easiest of any of my protagonists.  51. Favorite Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor headcanons (any or all)?Jhera: Jhera becomes the first Emerald Knight to be knighted since the Fall of the Dales, and the second warrior to wield Evanura, as a way of honoring Jhera’s gifts to the Dalish people. It was Ladwyn’s idea, but I could only capture this scene right from Jhera’s perspective, so I’m putting it here.
Evaine: Evaine being a hilarious wine drunk is one of my fave headcanons, because I too cannot have more than one glass of red wine without getting faaaaaar right of tipsy. It made romancing Fenris interesting. Ladwyn: Headcanoning Ladwyn as a mom is a favorite of mine, but my all-time favorite is hc’ing that the Spirit of Command in Crestwood is the spirit that powers Ladwyn’s spirit blade. 52. Favorite non-Player Character headcanons?I have a lot, but my headcanon for Merrill’s magic is one of my favorite things about writing her. She comes from Clan Alerion in Nevarra (sourced from World of Thedas), so there could be a history of combining Nevarran necromancy with Dalish Keeper magic. I imagine Merrill’s skillset as more, “Poison Ivy meets World of Darkness Abyss Mysticism”, and who could argue with that?No one, because creating tentacles of vines that leech life energy is fucking terrifying. 53. That One Headcanon that hurts to think about?*looks at you* Okay, if you’re sure, I’d have to say the entirety of how Here Lies the Abyss. It was a horrible, awful time for everyone involved, but especially for Evaine and Ladwyn. I had always headcanoned Ladwyn as being unwilling to let people die for her, which is how she interpreted that “choose Hawke or Alistair” decision in the level. So not only did she have to make that decision (she chose Alistair because it was in-character and also fuck my feelings), but Evaine had to deal with the idea that she wasn’t enough again. It took a lot out of both of them, but Evaine walked away from it thinking that she didn’t deserve a heroic death because she was never a hero in the first place and that bums me the fuck out.
54. Fluffiest headcanon ever? One that I came up with recently is Cullen asking Dalish to preside over his and Ladwyn’s elopement, because having Ladwyn say that she couldn’t find meaning in an Andrastian ceremony and then having said wedding only presided by Mother Giselle didn’t sit right with me. I think Cullen would ask Dalish how to say the vows as well, for extra fluff points. 55. Your non-Player Character OTPs?Oh man I have so many! Sera/Dagna and Anora/Cauthrien come to mind, but I’m also a fan of Isabela/Merrill, Dorian/Bull, and Josephine/Cassandra (thanks to @madamebadger now I ship it like burning).
