Chenford + pregnancy scare (Post 5.10)
Alright, Anon. You got me on this one. I'm setting Some Things Are More Important aside because this prompt grabbed me by the hair and wouldn't let go. I hope you like the spin I put on this!
There's something that tells me (that life has changed)
Ch. 1 - Excerpt
ANGELA
Angela put her bag in her locker and clipped her badge to her jeans, noticing that they felt just a little too tight. Maybe she was bloated. She was due to start her period any day now.
That thought gave her pause. She rushed to pull up the calendar app on her phone.
“What’s wrong?” Nyla asked from the bench next to her. Lucy was changing into her uniform on the other side. She looked up at Angela with concern as she tucked her white shirt into her navy slacks.
“Today is the 3rd,” Angela stated.
“Yeah,” Nyla nodded.
She did the math in her head.
Fuck.
“Damnit,” Angela groaned. “I’m late.”
She told Wesley she wasn’t ready to put her body and career through another pregnancy this year. It had only been three months since that conversation and she knew they were on the same page right now. They’d been careful, too.
“Ooh,” Lucy winced sympathetically. “How late?”
“At least a week,” Angela said.
She sat down on the bench and put her head in her hands.
“A week…” Lucy said and her voice trailed off.
Angela looked over at her. Lucy was counting days on her hand as her eyes grew increasingly wide.
“What are you doing?” Angela asked, the hair standing up on the back of her neck.
“I think–” Lucy swallowed uncomfortably. “I think I’m a little late too.”
Wait … If Lucy is late, then who… ?
...
Read the rest of Chapter 1 on AO3 and let me know what you think in the comments. Chapter 2 (the ending) will be out in the next couple of days!

Note
Their date is definitely 5x10. The official episode description says they go on their first date “but it does have a few complications”. Also, Robert Bella posted a video a couple of months ago with a romantic looking setting in the background and said they were waiting for sunset to film a scene that we would be very excited to see 🥰
Hm, well, based on this, I hope the dinner date is only a portion of the entire night.
The complications suggest that maybe the dinner date gets interrupted by something — or someone — and I'd love it if, by the final act, Tim and Lucy finish their date with a different date, like paintball.
I know that’s not the only activity, but it’s the only one I can think of right now.

🛒⛔️👀🤲✅ please!!! <3
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc. Well, might as well pick a theme for your ask here, and go with: the dilf!dan cinematic universe. I guess there are lots of reasons for it, the first being that there is a real, evolutionary phenomenon that makes the image of a beautiful man being good with a baby irresistible. And, of course, there’s the heartbreaking precedence of canon, that opened this can of worms of Beautiful Man That’s Good With a Baby and slammed it shut quickly after, thereby forever leaving my imagination dissatisfied. And too, with GG specifically, parenthood and how children are shaped by their parents/haunted by the ghosts of their parents’ past and visions of their parents’ futures, and how there is really only one (1) good father in the dramatis personae and he’s only good to like, half his children, the narrative potential of a main character like Dan stepping out of the GG cycle of parenting and building a life and a family that defies it is sooooooo….delicious. The Milo plot specifically, in a show that emphasizes bloodlines and genetics and biological links, breaking that down to say, Dan is not the bio-father, but that doesn’t matter because the love and the connection is real—a marked contrast from say, bart and wvdw, who use their bio-dad cards as get-out-of-jail free ones all the time. Just…everything this theme says about family and parenthood being earned. And choosing to be there. And choosing to stay.
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? Oh, sure. I am kind of a — stickler, I guess? That if I start something I want to have finished it, so I am trying to be better at forgiving myself for the fics I don’t write. That being said, there is one. So I started a fic a couple months ago that was a story based off of these headcanons (dilf!dan AND dilf!nate cinematic universe!) but then a few things happened: I went on vacation so writing wasn’t really a thing that was happening because my big brother and I were having too much fun, then I contracted COVID whilst on vacation so when I got home I was too sick to anything but watch Netflix and drink water and lay around moaning, and then, I was beginning to emerge from the brain fog, the supreme court (fuck em!), and it was like…so the whole thing that the fic revolves around is adoption — which is great! It’s a great practice don’t get me wrong — and I just…didn’t have it in me to write an adoption-at-birth plot after that particular devastating political event. I still like the idea, so I guess I haven’t scrapped it completely, but it’ll probably be a while if I ever circle back to it.
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please! Ohhhhhh you are just trying to get me to talk about it publicly, I see you, S! But that’s fine, because I’ve been dying for an excuse.
Okay so the recent discourse in my ask box — spurred by Sena’s posts (ty sena I owe you my life tbh), and then prompted by you, actually, S (wow, this is so your fault <3) — was about Blair’s pregnancy arc on the show and the Grimaldis shitty behavior and I mentioned an abandoned LJ fic where to get away from Chuck and out of her engagement and free of the Grimaldis forever, Blair enlists Dan to help lie for her and say that the child she’s carrying is actually Dan’s. Ever since I read it and then was heartbroken to find it unfinished, I’ve wondered how that story was gonna go, and now I can’t stop thinking about it…so here we are.
I haven’t had much of a chance to make an outline and a plan, but generally what I am thinking now is starting in the weeds of 5x10 — the epicenter of everything that spurs the story for the rest of the season, honestly — and following through until the time that s5 ends (with a much happier ending for my faves, of course). Blair decides she wants out of the royal pipeline, and that she needs insurance/insulation from Chuck, and Dan is so stupid in love with her he’ll go along with any idiotic plot. Also like, as we’ve all joked, Dan WILL raise your baby no questions asked.
But it’s just…it’s gonna be a bear of thing to pull off. It will definitely end up longer than I mean it to be (hello, it me), and to do it I know I’m gonna have to deal with the Dair + Serena of it all, plus save Nate from the Spectator (#notmynate), get chip whiskers out of the fuckin way, acknowledge the train wreck of Ivy/Charlie/Lola, not to mention all the things about her pregnancy & motherhood that Blair avoids grappling with until she’s suddenly Not Pregnant. PLUS Dan’s choice being all tied up in the Milo Debacle and his novel and his love of Blair. Which is all gonna be hard.
But! The potential for the ROMANCE. Dilf!dan. Dair roommates. Dair doing three men and a baby except that it’s two-best-friends-who-are-in-love-but-don’t-know-how-to-handle-it and a baby.
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip? Well, I’ve barely written much prose on the aforementioned wip, it’s just been basic outlining, stream of consciousness notes, and pitching scenes in your dms, but I’ll share a tidbit of the tiny bit I’ve written so far in my bullet points…
Rounded and big and unwieldy, she knows she’s well-past the benchmark of desirable now, but Dan holds her like she isn’t, touches her like she’s worth wanting, and kisses her until she wants to believe it.
✅ What’s something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don’t mean to? musical!Humphreys my beloved! Sometimes it is very much intentional and is the basis of the plot (see: orchestra au & date valentine oneshot), but sometimes it just creeps in. Like I said, my writing is very based in music, and even though my parents are amateur musicians, I related a lot to the Humphreys right off the dat because music seems such an integral part of the culture of their family, if that makes sense? And my brother and I growing up the way we did, with all the music literacy and piano lessons (later guitar for him) and everything that came with that, I cannot really imagine Dan and Jenny not being skilled musicians, even though they’ve chosen a different genre of art as their career path. It’s one of their character pillars, a piece of their personality that’s shaped them, so musicians!Humphreys always comes into play in a story whether it’s intentional or not

I don’t know y’all…I’m feeling…something
Post 5x10, Buddie but make it repressed, come cry with me
Eddie’s not sure what he expected. He didn’t think anyone would take it well, least of all Buck, but somehow…it’s worse than he predicted.
Buck won’t talk to him. Won’t even look at him, actually.
Hen and Ravi had both hugged him, let him know he’d be missed but that they understood. Hen had held him a moment longer and asked, “Are you sure? Maybe you should take some more time to think about this.”
But Eddie had looked her in the eye and said that his decision was final.
Buck just looked at his feet.
When Eddie said, “Buck,” not as gently as he probably should’ve, because he really needed Buck in his corner here, and he’s not that happy about his choice either, Buck had walked away.
Walked away!
Eddie wanted to go after him.
But there were all these strangers and most everyone was in the mood for Christmas and Eddie was pretty sure that if he followed Buck, there’d be a fight.
There’s been a lot brewing under the surface for the past few months. A lot of things left unsaid. God, they haven’t even talked about the will since the day Eddie told him about it.
So Eddie thinks it might be better to let this sit. Let Buck cool off. Take some time later to tell Buck that he’s not leaving, just getting a transfer. That Buck is still very much an important part of his and Chris’s lives. That Eddie just needs to be sure Chris won’t lose both of them.
Later doesn’t come.
Three days after Christmas, Buck is ignoring Eddie’s calls. He requests to work B shift, so Eddie doesn’t run into him at work.
“Look, Buck’s a hot head,” Hen reassures him while they rattle back from the hospital, after dropping off a patient with a broken leg from a golf cart accident. “He just needs time.”
“The last time you said that, Buck went and sued the fire department,” Eddie reminds her.
“Let’s hope he’s learned something from that,” Hen says.
A week later, and Carla tells him that Buck had reached out to her to schedule time to see Chris.
“That’s bullshit,” Eddie says, gripping the edge of the counter. “If he wants to see Chris, he can talk to me.”
Carla gives him a grim smile. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to use Chris as leverage. That will only end up hurting both of them.”
So Eddie lets Buck see Chris. With Carla chaperoning him to and from Buck’s apartment. And Eddie is fine.
His transfer request has been filed and approved, he starts at the 106 on Thursday, and Eddie made the right decision.
He did.
The night before his first shift at a new station, Eddie drives to Buck’s apartment and stomps up the stairs. When he bangs on the door, Taylor opens it.
Eddie takes a step back.
“What, you’re screening his visitors now?” Eddie asks.
Taylor gives him a flat look. “He doesn’t want to see you.”
“Yeah well, too bad. He’s overreacting.”
“Is he?”
And it’s the quiet way she says it, not even looking at him, looking somewhere out past Eddie’s ear.
“I need to talk to him,” Eddie says.
Taylor’s eyes move back to his face. “I’m saying this as Buck’s friend, alright?”
“What—“
“You should have talked to him. Before you decided to leave. You should have warned him.”
“He would’ve…he would’ve talked me out of it.”
“Maybe. Maybe not. But you didn’t even give him a chance.”
Eddie’s had enough of this. “Buck!” He shouts, trying to peer over Taylor’s head into the apartment. “C’mon, man. This is getting ridiculous!”
There’s a crashing noise from somewhere in the apartment. Then it sounds like Buck gets downstairs by falling down his stairs.
Then Buck is standing in front of him, for the first time in nearly two weeks, holding the door open with Taylor trapped between them.
He looks…well, good. It’s Buck. But his eye bags have eye bags and he’s wearing the ratty hoodie from his community college that Eddie knows is reserved for sick days, and his hair is matted down against his head like he hasn’t had time to wash or style it in a while.
“Get out,” Buck says to him.
“No. We need to talk.”
“Fine.” Buck steps around Taylor, turning to say something to her that’s too low for Eddie to hear, then closes the door behind them. “Let’s talk.”
“In the hallway? Really? You’re not gonna let me inside?”
Buck’s jaw tightens.
“Look, I’m sorry,” Eddie starts. He runs a hand through his hair and glances away. “I probably should have talked to you about it. But I didn’t want to argue with you. I just…I had to do it.”
Buck’s voice is low and furious when he asks, “Why?”
“Because I couldn’t risk the both of us being in danger, if we’re on the same shift. I couldn’t risk having Chris lose us both.”
“You know that makes no sense, right?”
Eddie frowns at him.
“If you’re worried about the job being dangerous, then quit.” Buck says. “But…don’t…” He groans, rubbing a hand over his mouth. “Don’t go somewhere where I can’t watch your back.”
Eddie flinches. Like he’s been punched. It feels like he was.
“What did you say?” Buck continues. “‘Who replaces me?’”
He glares at Eddie, and the three inches he’s got on him have never felt so big. “Well? Care to answer that for me, Edmundo?”
The name in his mouth is like a knife in Eddie’s ribs. It’s delivered with the same, sharp edge.
“Buck,” Eddie says, his mouth numb, “that’s not what I…this isn’t…you’re being irrational.” Good going, Diaz.
“Really? I’m irrational?” Buck growls. “Well then you’re a coward.”
Eddie closes his eyes. Because he is. He is a coward. He’s a shell of a man who still feels uneasy when he crosses the street, who wakes up cold and shaking, with the knowledge that almost drowning and nearly dying of blood loss feel eerily the same. He’s a man who dreams of the stricken look on his best friend’s face, splattered with blood.
“You’re running away. You keep doing that,” Buck accuses.
It’s what Eddie’s best at, after all. Running from Shannon. From Chris. From his parents.
“You don’t have to run anymore.”
Eddie opens his eyes, and there Buck is. The anger has burnt out of him. He looks exhausted. He looks like how Eddie feels.
“I want to be a firefighter,” Eddie admits. The words feel torn out of him, like the bullet shards from his body. “I don’t want to quit.”
“Then don’t.”
“But I can’t…I can’t do what you do, Buck. I can’t put it away.”
Buck actually looks…relieved?
“Neither can I. God, Eds…I feel like I’ve been going crazy.”
“What…what do you mean?”
Buck slumps against the door, which puts him at eye level with Eddie.
“These past few months, I knew something was going on with you. But you wouldn’t talk to me. And I…I was kind of…I’ve been…” Buck exhales shakily. “I haven’t…I wouldn’t say I’ve been that OK, lately.”
“Why not?”
Buck looks at him. Just, looks. His eyes flick down to Eddie’s shoulder. Back up to Eddie’s face.
“You’re not the only one who still thinks about it,” Buck says quietly.
Eddie…doesn’t know what to say.
“You don’t have to do this alone, Eddie.”
“Then why did you…you’ve kind of left me hanging, man. How am I supposed to talk to you when you won’t answer the damn phone? Sneaking around, seeing Christopher, changing your shift — what was I supposed to do? Write a fucking letter?” And oh good, the anger’s back. At least now Eddie doesn’t feel like a high rise on a fault line, one shake away from crumbling down.
“I…” Buck looks away. “I was mad at you, OK? Because…because you know, we’ve talked about…and everyone keeps leaving.” The look on Buck’s face does a number on Eddie’s heart. “Hen was studying to be a doctor, and Bobby and you were on med leave, and everyone kept saying how Bobby’s gonna need to retire soon, that he’s getting too old for the job and…and then Maddie left, and Chim, and…and you said we were gonna stick together. The family we choose, right?” Buck wipes at his eyes. “Well choose us, Eddie. Just…stay. Please.”
And Eddie feels the tears fight their way to his eyes. And he hears the pleading tone in Buck’s voice. And he wants to put his hands on Buck and tell him that he isn’t going anywhere.
But he just stands there, fists clenched, because he’s hit by an unexpected tidal wave of desire.
He wants to kiss Buck.
He wants to hold Buck’s face in his hands and spell out his devotion on Buck’s lips. He wants to hold Buck close to him and promise that he’ll never leave. He wants to climb so deep inside Buck that separation is impossible.
And Buck is in love with someone else.
And Eddie is straight.
And they’re both responsible for Chris.
And Eddie can’t fuck up his kid. He can’t.
Not anymore than he already has.
“Buck, I can’t,” Eddie chokes out. Buck’s face falls. “But it’s not…we can still see each other. Just because we’re not on the same calls, that doesn’t mean I don’t still…Buck, you’re…”
“I don’t understand,” Buck says, taking a step off the wall. “Why can’t you do it? Talk to me, Eds.”
And it’s nothing. And it’s everything. It’s gunshots ringing out in the desert and Chris laughing at something Buck said and it’s Shannon bleeding out on the pavement and it’s Ana telling him it’s your mess now and it’s him seeing Buck’s face above his, thinking, thank God Chris will have someone looking after him, and it’s being trapped in that well thinking I can’t die, not yet.
“The 106 needed a paramedic,” Eddie says.
“We need a paramedic!” Buck replies, tearing at his own hair. “If you hadn’t noticed, Chimney’s gone!”
“I can’t do this,” Eddie says.
“Eds, don’t,” Buck says. “Don’t leave. Don’t—“
But Eddie’s gone. He’s taking the stairs to ground level two at a time, he’s ignoring Buck calling out his name, he’s ignoring the way his heart feels like it’s trying to pound it’s way out of his chest.
He made the right decision. He did.
Carla said he should follow his heart, but Eddie’s heart is unreliable. It beats too fast and falls in love with the wrong people and it sent him half a world away from his son.
So it’s not about what he wants. It can’t be.

Elejah MasterFic-List
Yall this got so long you’re welcome 🍒 – smut ☁️ - fluff
wanna say a HUGE thank you to every one of these authors for the fantastic fics you’ve written. If any of you see this and either don’t wanna be on it or would like me to tag you in this just let me know x
plus if anyone has/knows a fic they'd like me to add to this feel free to comment :)
ALSO Update from like a few weeks later! I have been and will be adding to this as more fics get posted/ I find more :)
One shots
Elskede by blanketspace
Elskede; it means Beloved. Prompt: Someone isn't up on recent last century happenings so when they come across a Petrova doppelganger a few decades after all the Mystic Falls stuff has ended they grab Elena (who's still a vampire, because reasons) and bring her to the Mikaelsons hoping for a reward. Elijah is amused but angry. His siblings are way more than amused. And Elena's just pissed off. (LOVE LOVE LOVE this fic, come back to it atleast once a month. Peak characterisation imo) sorta 🍒
Step One by Tayleeb “I can help you, Elena. But you need to be certain you want my help.” // Post 4x21. Stefan called Elijah to compel Elena's humanity on. When it's no longer necessary, he offers to help her deal with the emotional fallout of turning her humanity back on. (SO hot omg, reread this an unhealthy amount)
distressing damsels by ribbons-blue Because of course rescuing Elena Gilbert from the clutches of a power-hungry vampire wouldn't be as simple a task as it first appeared. Elijah doesn't know why he ever thought otherwise. [Elijah x Elena] Season 2 (elena is so cute in this fic and elijahs reactions to her are hilarious)☁️
perception by ribbons-blue The night Elijah rescues Elena from his sister…and the many pairs of eyes that observe. [Elijah x Elena] Episode 3x14
The Sound of Rain by destinoscelgo
In the midst of a storm, Elena's fear of bad weather gives Elena a sensory overload and she needs to distract herself from the hurricane. One Shot/Elejah 🍒
Silence Is A Virtue by Turtle_Goose
A small smile was playing about Elijah's face and there was mischief in his eyes. "I am perfectly capable of being silent," he said in a low voice. He moved fast, picking her up and depositing her on his large bed with the barest rustle of fabric. "Are you?" One Shot. Complete (I’ve read this a sinful amount of times)🍒
Mahogany by giraffelove92
"The wood of her kitchen table was a dark, finished wood, smooth under his hands; he guessed mahogany, a common enough wood nowadays. In the years of his youth and for centuries thereafter, he remembered, it had been a rarity: a fine wood from worlds away that only the noblest lords and ladies could afford to import." Elejah. Smut. 🍒
Code » by Readergirl37
About the times Elijah and Elena used code.
of people and places » by the queen of slurking
in which elena and enzo are stuck in the cell. or, how you come to rely on the one other person around you. AU after 5x10. (adore this fic, elena and enzo could have been a really fun friendship plus I’ll never not like seeing elena interact with the entire mikaelson family in a non-murder way, I also think this fic does a really good job at establishing elena’s place in the tragedy that was her teen life)
Nothing Better Than Blindness by TheCivilState
Elijah has always been able to tell the dopplegangers apart
I’m banking on the fables, far better things we do by agirlwithacoin "I'm not human anymore", she couldn't stop herself from grieving the loss of her humanity when she's in front of him
It's Not Easy Having Yourself a Good Time by Rashaka
What if this whole time Elena was never actually paying attention to events in Mystic Falls, just nodding and saying "uh-huh" while secretly thinking about marshmallows. Crack!Fic with the Originals (this is the funniest tvd fic I’ve ever read, oblivious-quasi valley girl elena is so fun and as an established dumb bitch I can relate)
Seriously? by Readergirl37
A fic where Elena is done everybody's crap and is brutally honest. Crack fic Elijah/Elen
The Pomegranate by BumbleMumbbleJimJams
They go to a fancy restaurant to catch up. Elena orders a pomegranate, Elijah orders wine. 🍒
Blood Atones for Betrayal by TallyKayda
When Elijah finds out about the possibilty of Elena having been turned, he decides to return to Mystic Falls regardless of the consequences only to find the rumors true and Elena stronger than ever, if slightly angry. 🍒
The Fables of the better things we do by agirlwithacoin
It seems like it might take years to clean everything out; the expulsion of her insides is a painful process, and she's not sure how long she languishes in shock and pain and bitterness, but the calendar feels like a liar-there ought to be a healing process, even if she itches to rip off the scab and be done with it.
Let me in by agirlwithacoin Later, much later, after his blood comes back under his control, Elijah will admit to himself, however uncharacteristic such an admittance is, that this was not at all how he had expected his night to go. 🍒
Come in by agirlwithacoin
The entirety of their relationship can probably be summarized at least partially into the number of times that she's wondered if he was going to kiss her 🍒 (hawttttt omg I love this one so much)
Temper Management by Symbioticdeath
He rarely asked for this. And later, in the darkest hours before morning, Elena would allow herself to wonder what made him want it this time. (sub-elijah is something I didn’t know I needed, plus established relationship elejah which I love) 🍒
what elena wants, elena gets by Merkanzee Elena has always been better at being honest with what she wants and she wants Elijah. Elijah's not complaining. The girl has no idea how much he desires her. 🍒
Keen by giraffelove92
"She glanced at the sword one last time, remembering its keen edge hewing through flesh and bone. Bile rose once again in her throat, and she shoved it down. The blade glimmered in the light, mocking her." Next to him, the sharp blade seems mild in comparison. Elejah. Smut. 🍒
Leave Out All the Rest by Cherazz After being daggered yet again, Elijah is trapped within his dreams, where he faces an incredible amount of not only torment, but pleasure as well. But what is real and what isn’t? And does he ever truly wake up at all? 🍒
Old Friends and Helpful Elevators by Terapsina “Thanks.” She flashes a polite but absent smile in the general direction of the person that waited for her as she joins them in the elevator, eyes still on her phone typing a message to Mandy to tell her she’ll be there in a minute. “My pleasure, Elena.” Answers the voice from her past. /or/ Years after their last meeting Elena and Elijah run into each other in an elevator which immediately breaks down.
kiss, taste, smile by Terapsina As her lips meet the line of Elijah's throat, she can't help remembering that it's not a new fancy she's indulging. She'd thought of this when she'd been human too. The collar of his shirt framing his throat, pulling Elena's eye, making the tips of her fingers itch to run over the expensive material and graze against skin.
throw your life away by Anonymous She's had him dead in her cellar for fifty-six years 🍒
Aurora by lit_chick08 Elijah only wants to be helpful kinda 🍒
It's Personal by @missnmikealson Blood Sharing is a personal thing. She never understood how personal until she journeyed to New Orleans. (I’d say a reread this too much but that'd be a lie because its amazing) 🍒
Call me Angel by @missnmikealson She forgot his new assistant, who happened to be a shameless flirt, had never met her. Instead of correcting the woman she goes along with it. 🍒
Garden Party by @missnmikealson Elena and Elijah arrive late to a garden party together and everyone assumes that they have finally gotten together. ☁️🍒
When She Drinks by MayContainBees He closed his eyes and couldn’t believe this was his life. (this fic does bash Hayley which I disagree with because I love her and contrary to this fic rec post I do like haylijah but the elejah moments are so cute and the writings great)
you swallowed everything by magisterequitum He'd dreamed of her once when he was shut away in a coffin that smelled of oak and linen. Disappointment in her eyes and he wants to leave a ring of bruises along her collarbone. Purple kisses to mar her skin and give her something else to look at him for.
we're painted red by magisterequitum "You just can't stay away," she says and wipes the blood from her dinner from wet slick lips.
and miles yet to go by magisterequitum mystic falls burns. they drive.
One Letter at a Time by Terapsina Elijah intervenes and rescues Elena from the hands of Stefan and Damon after 4x21. He finds a new way of dealing with her that has unexpected results. ☁️
as they lay dying by youngerdrgrey s3!AU. There are consequences to killing Klaus that they don't predict, like Damon dying, or Stefan going off the deep end, or Elena taking off on the first train out of Mystic Falls. But she's not alone. Our favorite Original is right next to her. E/E
and you were singing me by magisterequitum she finds another way; she finds again her best weapon. (S4 AU where Elena finds someone else to help her with the sire bond; warnings for consent issues that go with the sire bond, and character death) (any fic that delves into the consent issues of the sire bond and just tvd in general >>>)
Ash by readergirl37 Elena thinks Jeremy is dead, Damon turned off her emotions and no one's home. Someone stops her from burning it all down. Rated M for mentioned past sexual assault. (similar too above – amazing fic, Damon bashing excellence)
Orkney by Albion19 Elijah offers to help Elena change her nightmares into dreams. A nostalgic look back at the past and more ensues. Post 3x12. Elejah
we shall always be by magisterquitum
the lockwood's host their annual masquerade dance, and both of them deserve the night off. 🍒
Valkyrja by sybioticdeath
“Looks like it’s a Gilbert thing.”
Elena tried her hardest to resist the urge to murder her brother. She’d read somewhere it was called The Cain Instinct, though according to Urban Dictionary it was more the urge to hit your sibling. She loved Jeremy, but there were times when she wanted to choke him till he turned blue.
I’m not your daydream by me lmao
“Can’t you hear its heartbeat?” she can feel it, sometimes louder than her own.
“I can hear yours.”
or
Elena aborts a miracle baby and Elijah pays for breakfast.
Multi-chapter
Complete
The Golden Arrow by Toriblue Never let it be said that Elijah is predictable. The last thing she ever expected was a formal goodbye...especially one that included words like 'always and forever'. 🍒 (I am absolutely obsessed with everything Toriblue wrote for elejah, they’re characterisation of both characters is so good and the way she writes their negation-esque banter is so perfect)
Paid in Full by Toriblue Elena Gilbert is much more interesting as a vampire. Before being turned, she was on the path to sweater sets & PTA meetings. Rebekah did her a favor when she forced her to a watery grave. Not that Elijah would ever appreciate that observation. - Kol/Elena, Elijah/Elena 🍒
Light Years Apart » by AuroraSpace
Elijah's thoughts were not completely on his conversation with Davina in Sinners and Saints. And how a certain witch decides that Elijah deserves everything he yearns for. 🍒
Lost by @missnmikealson She has no words to describe the freedom of abandoned humanity. All she knows is she’s never going back to the way things used to be. No sir… never. Never, ever ever. Never! (you’re going to see missnmikaelson on here a lot and that’s because they’ve literally wrote so much and its all amazing – also this fic is everything no humanity elena is a national treasure and the elejah dynamic in this is 👌🏻)

5x10 – A Very MacRiley "Analysis"
Well, I definitely didn't expect to be making another AVMA post, but I am a woman of my word.
Below the cut, I will be discussing last night's episode of MacGyver (2016) titled "Diamond + Quake + Carbon + Comms + Tower"—particularly in reference to the relationship between Mac and Riley (with mentions of Mac x Desi as well).
So if you haven't seen it yet, do be aware: this post contains spoilers.
Without further adieu, let's get into it.
The Cold Open
Tumblr media
Here we see Mad Scientist Mac tooling around in his kitchen, rambling about pressurized carbon and diamonds. I won't bore you by going into details, but I will give a brief rundown:
Bozer walks in.
Bozer is weirded out by Mac's strange behavior.
Mac reveals he intends to propose to Desi with a diamond he cooked up in a box (side note: I am so here for conflict free genius diamonds).
But I digress.
I won't lie and say this entire thing was surprising. The intended proposal was a touch predictable; everyone on Twitter had been hypothesizing about it for weeks before the episode even aired.
Still, when I heard those words come out of Mac's mouth, my heart absolutely shattered.
I pictured a wedding. Having to watch them say I do while Riley stood off to the side.
And then logic set in.
Why on God's green earth would this man want to marry a woman he's only really been on good terms with for a few weeks? Why would he want to take that next step when she's been so hesitant to even call him her boyfriend?
Well, Mac himself said it best. "Ever since I lost my dad and Jack, I've been thinking about the bigger picture. And a commitment to make things work is exactly what Desi and I need."
Problem One
As Mac said, this newfound craving for marriage does not come from a genuine desire to take that next step. It's influenced by loss. By grief.
Which isn't inherently an issue. Mortality is a great motivator for soul-searching and self-discovery.
However, when it comes to matters of the heart, acting out of grief can often be more detrimental than helpful. It can cause you to cling to what you have left, sometimes in ways that are unhealthy.
Which brings me to:
Problem Two
Mac clearly does not view marriage with Desi as something he truly wants. As an act of love or genuine devotion.
To him, it seems more like a desire to force things to work. Like a business contract. "If we're married, we have no choice but to talk it out."
Which makes sense when you consider that, in 4x04, Mac admitted he and Desi were clinging to the familiar instead of actual substance. He wants to make it work because the alternative is being alone.
And to be frank, that doesn't frame MacDesi in a very good light at all.
I Probably Shouldn't Tell You This
Before Mac, Riley, and Desi are sent off on their mission to Mexico City, Bozer pulls Riley aside and, presumably, tells her about Mac's intentions to marry Desi.
I won't go into detail on that here, but it's important to later scenes, so I felt it deserved a mention for that reason alone.
Plus, it only further confirms, at least in my mind, that Riley still has enough feelings for Mac for Bozer would worry about her. So...a win?
Got A Secret, Can You Keep It?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Mac runs off to play Murdoc's little game, Riley and Desi follow him. One thing leads to another, and the trio winds up on the roof of a skyscraper, unable to unlock the doors and get back inside.
Cornered, they are absolutely at Murdoc's mercy.
So what does this glorious psychopath do?
He tells Mac the one thing he has never been able to figure out on his own. That Riley had feelings for him and buried them deep, deep down. That having to watch him and Desi was genuinely hurting her.
I love this scene for several reasons. The most important of them being: I really don't think either of them would have said anything if Murdoc hadn't done this.
They are both so self-sacrificing. So willing to give up their happiness so that they won't get in the way of other people's' joy.
Getting that little push opened them both up to experiencing feelings they'd previously denied. Which is super important for people like them, who don't have a lot of experience with touchy-feely type situations.
And the best part?
I think Desi truly realized all of that. She wasn't mad. She wasn't bitter. She saw this happen, realized the lengths Riley went to to protect her feelings, and accepted it. She refused to let them be distracted by it, and looked after Ri like a real teammate would.
Her not holding that against them isn't something I would have expected way back when this season first started. But you could really see that, as much as she probably didn't enjoy hearing that, she understood it.
Sidebar - Desi
While I think the shift in Desi's character is abrupt and I would've preferred a more transformative storyline, I'm honestly not mad about how they're writing her.
If this continues to be how she's written, and it all remains consistent, I can personally overlook the sudden shift in behavior for her.
Because honestly, Peter Lenkov was a dick, and I can get not wanting to continue on with the toxicity he injected into D for even a moment.
Hug It Out
Tumblr media
When all is said and done, Mac lets Riley know that they don't have to talk about it. Which is super considerate, if a little obnoxious.
She, being the wise and tired babie she is, decides it's best to be honest. So she explains what happened in Germany. And finally, after months of waiting, it's all laid out in the open. Just like that.
There is not much to analyze in this scene other than the hug itself.
Riley shuts her eyes, holding onto him like she can't quite believe he's real and Mac sighs, because god, he did not expect for his day to go like this. And he definitely didn't think he'd feel so oddly satisfied that it did.
So they just stand there, rocking slightly, comforted by each other's embrace.
The only word that came to mind when watching it go down for the first time was: safe. They almost looked like they were at home in each other's arms. At peace.
And as someone who has loved these two deeply since season one, it's so heartwarming to see them have that kind of connection with someone. Even more so to see them find it in each other.
Knock Knock. Who's There?
Tumblr media
Mac. That's who.
Late at night, after contemplating his proposal again (boy, why?), we see Mac leave his house. He shows up at an apartment building, knocks on a door, and...
Oh look, it's Riley's place.
She's shocked.
He asks if her feelings are really gone.
And...cut to black.
I am not foolish enough to assume this will be easy. It's entirely possible she'll lie and say she's over him to uncomplicate things.
But this is the closest we have ever been to canonization. And I think it speaks volumes that Mac is the one making the first move.
We don't often get to see the more emotional aspects of this show through his point of view. It's usually the people around him who are allowed to feel things, and him who deals with the aftermath.
Yet here we are. He was the one to seek out Riley. To take the leap.
And I think that speaks a lot to his own emotional growth.
In Conclusion
Monica Macer is the bait and switch queen. 5x10 was an emotional ride I did not ask to go on, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the final destination.
Here's hoping I can write another one of these after 5x11.

Toss up between “breaking eddie like an ikea mirror” and the fire academy au….
I’ll take any further information on either one, or if you’re feeling generous, both 🙃
okay so breaking eddie like an ikea mirror is the (temporary) title of my post 5x10 fic! i started writing it like, right after the episode, but life but it on the backburner which is honestly good because i have way more ideas now
the concept is that instead of eddie quitting outright, bobby gets him to take six months of medical leave instead, to figure out what comes next for him, and so eddie intends to spend those six months like applying for jobs and figuring out what comes next and how he can take care of himself and chris now he isn’t a firefighter, except it’s not that simple and eddie is like realising he doesn’t want to do anything except be a firefighter and so in those six months he unpacks lots of his trauma about the army and the shooting and his struggles with being a parent and shannon - and then his whole sexuality crisis, of course.
it’s a bit disjointed in my head still but i have a few ideas of scenes where eddie is sort of just a bit aimless as he tries to figure all this out. and he makes a new friend! he makes a new queer friend who helps him out with some of the sexuality stuff, because eddie deserves that. and he gets a new haircut and a new tattoo and a new perspective on life - he just doesn’t have buck, or the job he loves, and those two things are the hardest to unpack.

FOUND FAMILY - SO SIMPLE EVEN YOUR KIDS CAN DO IT
Category: Gen
Genre: Angst/Fluff, Romance, Hurt/Comfort
Fandoms: 9-1-1
Continuity: Post 5x10 Wrapped in Red. Not really 5B speculation but kinda
Summary: Eddie's depressed and scared, Buck's angry and sad
A/N: I had to cut the chapter 'cause I can't finish it for now (it's been waiting for a week now). Took me 3 rereads before chosing where to cut it but I really like this cut now:) (also there's one sentencethat ended up a lot like one specific scene in 511 and I feel vindicated)
Word Count: 2 270
Chapter number and title : Chapter 3 – How do we get up ?
Previous Chapters / Next Chapters
Read it on AO3
He woke up to a headache and a migraine stronger than any kind of headache he’s ever had. Or maybe that’s an exaggeration but it’s up there with the worst he’s had after he was a mix of injured and dehydrated. It took him a few minutes to realize that he still had his socks on and that he hadn’t had any nightmare. For the first time in a month. Which was highly surprising. Until he got back to his pillow and memories of the night before started coming back. He threw the covers to the other side of the bed and got up in a hurry, not knowing where exactly he was going but stopping once he saw Buck’s mop of hair lightened by the yellow undertones of his house at sunrise.
It was…Eddie didn’t know what it was…both ways. He didn’t know if it was the situation of waking up to Buck in his house, or Buck having helped him through whatever last night was, or the knowledge that Buck had spent the night for the first time in forever. He also didn’t know what the was was about. God his head was killing him, he didn’t even understand where his brain was going. Was there even a meaning to his questioning the term “was”? He needed an aspirin. Honestly, he’d take 10 if it wasn’t for the risk of dying from an overdose. He also couldn’t make himself move away from his best friend who was snoring on his couch.
He did manage to leave for the kitchen after a few minutes but still tried to keep an eye on Buck when he wasn’t closing his eyes and taking his head in his hand, pressing on whichever places would relieve a bit of the pain. After a while he just moved to the living room and took the plaid laying on his armchair before sitting in its place and putting it over his eyes. Somehow his migraine had gotten worse and he needed complete darkness. He also needed quiet but he couldn’t bring himself to leave Buck’s side. He wanted to think but he couldn’t get past the pain so for now, he would have to wait it out. It took him an hour but he fell back asleep.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
When he was woken up by the sun, the only thing Buck could do was groan, hating every second of it but as soon as he opened his eyes and started to scan his environment -which might or might not have taken up to a few minutes- they settled on a potato shape plaid on the couch next to him. He could see a part of a nose through a small triangle but no other skin was visible. He almost felt like laughing but then he remembered why he had been sleeping at Eddie’s, as well as where he had left Eddie the night before and sucked in a breath.
That’s when the potato stirred. The undulating plaid made for a strange picture and at any other time he would have laughed but right now all he wanted was a hug so he stayed where he was, trying to move as little as possible so he wouldn’t scare Eddie while he was waking up. Or at least as slowly and soundless as he could which, given his stature was almost impossible. He went to the kitchen to get Eddie a glass of water and an aspirin though he figured the aspirin might not be used yet as there was already a bottle on the table.
When he went back to the living room, Eddie had lost the plaid and was leaning forward, his head buried in his hands so Buck put the glass on the coffee table in front of him. Hesitating a bit before sitting on the side of the couch that was closest to Eddie.
He nudged the glass a bit toward Eddie who lifted his head but refused to look at Buck as he took the glass to drink it. Well at least that was something…
“Eddie-“
“I really don’t want to talk about it Buck,” his voice was rough from sleep and probably from crying too but it only served to annoy Buck.
“So you’re just gonna ignore it until it goes away? Because I’d figure at least after last night you would have realized that avoiding your issues might not be a good idea!” Eddie frowned but didn’t reply. He still wasn’t looking at Buck. And Buck well. He was scared. And angry. So angry. So he stopped thinking and just started talking, not that it was easy as he could feel a weight in his throat and in his chest.
“Eddie…Why are you still not talking to me. I-I t-tried to give you space. But i-it just keeps getting worse and I-I can’t keep doing this. It’s like Christmas all over again and,” the weight shifted, it trembled and he could feel his voice so soft with uncertainty not even two seconds ago harden. “It won’t be possible to keep going if we don’t say anything! I need you to talk to me even if it’s to say that you’re not ready to talk yet! We’re supposed to have each other’s back so why don’t you trust me to have yours!”
Eddie hadn’t moved. He was still ignoring him and Buck. He wanted to help, he wanted it so badly it hurt but it downed on him for the first time since Devon, he truly understood that you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. And right now, well for months now that was where Eddie was at and Buck wouldn’t be able to change anything. It wasn’t like Taylor who simply didn’t want to be vulnerable with him, it was that Eddie was incapable of that at the moment and probably wouldn’t be as long as he was left to it. He didn’t know if it was with him or just in general. It’s not like Eddie had ever been forthcoming with anyone other than him, Carla and Bobby. He might have talked to the other two and Buck was relegated to a simple acquaintance who had no weight in Eddie’s life anymore. So he took his phone out.
Which is the one thing that deigned get Eddie’s attention apparently. He looked miserable, which was probably why he hadn’t wanted to look at Buck since Buck wasn’t part of the circle privy to Eddie’s feelings anymore.
“What are you doing?”
“Calling Carla and Bobby. I know that even if you don’t talk to me about how you feel anymore you still talk a little to them and it’s fine if you don’t want me here when you’re not okay but you need someone and they seem like the best option to help you.”
“Don’t I-” his voice was trembling but it got steadier as he changed the subject “please sit down you’re too tall for this to happen with you standing. I’m…I’m…God why is this so hard?”
Buck had sat down as soon as Eddie asked him to and chose to keep quiet and let him struggle. It’s not like he wanted to. He wanted nothing more than to help him go through this but he didn’t know how and he would be lying if he said there wasn’t a tiny part of him that was relieved to see him try to talk to him even if it meant hurting him because he was an asshole like that.
“I’m seeing Frank again.”
And it was like all the fight he had in him left in a second. He closed the plaid against himself again, hiding most of his face as Buck…well Buck’s brain stopped. He didn’t exactly know what to think or say since the idea of Eddie accepting therapy seemed as far fetched as seeing a penguin in the Sahara desert. He also didn’t know what to say at the fact that therapy had Eddie like that. He knew that talking could sometimes….unsettle you. He had ended more than once crying in his shower so he wouldn’t bother Taylor, he had had panic attacks, but the state Eddie had been in was worse than bad. And he knew Eddie had been repressing a lot but being faced with this reaction it was…
~ ~ ~ ~
“He doesn’t know her the way I do.”
“Well you don’t know her the way he does. When you think of your sister, you see this person you’ve always looked up to. The woman who’s taken care of you. But maybe that’s not who she is right now. This time, maybe she’s the one who needs to be taken care of.”
~ ~ ~ ~ Oh. Well not “Oh” Oh. It wasn’t like completely out of nowhere. He knew Eddie wasn’t Okay. But giving him space might have had an even worse effect than he had thought and –
“Sue forced me. Apparently normal dispatchers only get one session to see if they’re fit but she’s used to former first responders from the LAFD coming to her station and blowing a fuse because they can’t deal with not being able to act as a way to process stress and trauma. It’s probably made worse by the fact that two of her team know me so she has the proof of almost everything that happened to me in the archives ready to be used.”
Buck had refocused on Eddie who had taken off the plaid from its cocoon position to a burrito one so his face wasn’t hidden anymore. He still wasn’t looking Buck in the eyes but at least his face wasn’t completely turned away anymore.
“I’m…We’re going through the fear part right now and it’s…It’s a lot and with what happened with the truck….I know it was a couple of seconds and the truck blew up after you answered me but…I had a session the day before and I already had a hard time controlling myself and that happened and it was too much and I’m so sorry. It’s not even your fault and I know you’re gonna start thinking it was and I can’t really talk. Because if I do then I risk everything coming back up and I couldn’t…I still can’t but I’m trying and I don’t even think that makes sense and I’m a complete mess and-”
“Okay breathe, you’re starting to panic, can I touch you?” Buck had closed the distance between them as soon as he heard Eddie’s breath pick up. The man was on the verge of another panic attack but he wasn’t there yet and when he nodded, Buck put two fingers on his inner wrist. “follow my lead, you know the drill. Breathe in,” he slowly glided his fingers up to Eddie’s elbow for three seconds. “Breathe out.” And back to his wrist for 3 seconds too. And again. “Breathe in, Breathe out.”
It took a minute but Eddie had calmed down and Buck gave him his glass of water without breaking contact. Eddie still wasn’t looking at him.
“Sorry I’m not. I can’t talk because everything’s a mess and I don’t…Letting anyone, even you, see me like this is…it’s too much and I can’t…right now it’s too much I’m sorry”.
Buck’s hand was still on Eddie’s arm and while it didn’t seem like a good idea to hug the man right now, no matter how much he wanted to, touch didn’t seem to alienate him so he just rubbed his skin as soothingly as he could.
“Eddie, I’m not asking you to describe every single thought you have. I’m your best friend not your therapist. I just…you know you don’t have to pretend with me. I…I know I don’t make it easy and I tend to put others on a pedestal, like with Maddie but you know I won’t judge either if you try to break it”.
At that Eddie looked him in the eye and the intensity there almost gave him a heart attack.
“Hey no. It’s not your fault. Yeah it didn’t help but I was also scared you would see me like this and I did everything I could so you wouldn’t think it was possible for me to panic. You were right I…We’re supposed to have each other’s back in all parts of our lives but outside of work and Christopher I’ve made it impossible for it to happen. I was trying so hard to do what I’ve always done that I didn’t think about what it could do to us. And I probably won’t be able to talk about this for a while but..”
Buck’s chest had warmed over, the way it did when he was with his Diaz boys. Nothing was solved but Eddie had talked to him and he felt like he was on cloud 9.
“Hey it’s ok, I just don’t want you to pretend. If you want me to take Chris so you can recharge or if you need him nearby but aren’t in a state to entertain him, just ask. Hell if you just want to watch dumb movies with Ice Cream I’m game. I…I miss you and I wanna have your back again Eddie.”
Eddie smiled then and well, the Diaz had an uncanny ability to warm him from head to toe with just a smile because of how warm they were. He put his other hand on top of buck’s before he replied.
“I miss you and I want to have your back again too.”

review roundup: billions 5x10 “liberty”
we had a terrible time this episode! let’s see if the critics agree!
New York Times: ‘Billions’ Recap, Season 5, Episode 10: You Can’t Make an Omelet …
Zooming into the office from his home, where he has been quarantined because of an infected private jet pilot, Axe announces that Axe Cap is no more. Everyone has been let go … and some, but not all, of them will be rehired by night’s end for his new venture, Axe Bank. In the case of Lauren, Mase Carbon’s investor relations guru, she’ll have to choose between joining the bank or staying put. (When she tries to do both, Taylor fires Lauren, and Lauren dumps Taylor.)
(so we’re not lingering on that plotline any longer than two sentences? no? okay then.)
Essentially, Chuck gives his estranged wife, Wendy, a choice: Cough up a lump-sum divorce settlement, or allow him to snoop around Mase Carb/Axe Cap’s books. When he ignores her FaceTime call, she contacts Ira instead. Ira gives her a view of the room and affords her a few snippets of the conversation everyone is having about bank regulation and liberty or something.
(“or something” is right.)
Axe figures that the fight between Prince and Chuck was a ruse, that cannabis is soon to get the federal green light, and that the time has come to corner the market before Prince can do so himself. What he doesn’t know (I think?) is that Taylor, who had earlier told him there was a yellow light for the weed biz, is part of Chuck and Prince’s conspiracy.
According to Taylor’s employee Rian, the light, in fact, is bright red. So has Axe fallen for a ruse, one he was meant to be ensnared by from the moment Chuck set his bait for Wendy’s call? Or has he seen through it? On this show, how can you even tell until the ax (no pun intended) inevitably falls on whoever screwed up?
(this is my understanding as well. prince and chuck have psyched axe into investing, when we know from taylor that it’s a bad idea. and the 5x11 plot point of “Axe plots to secure his deposits by poaching from Prince, a move that proves more complicated than it seems,” after axe refers to cannabis money as potential “deposits for [axe’s] bank,” supports that.)
With Lauren now out of the picture, I wonder if the professional and personal tension between Taylor and Rian — who once again nearly bounces from Mase Carb when she realizes that Taylor is misleading Bobby — will begin to blossom into something more.
(take a shot!)
During an argument over the phone, Wendy roasts Chuck: “I care not a whit, as you might say.” Direct hit, she sank his battleship, et cetera.
(lmao.)
Entertainment Weekly: Billions recap: Business takes a back seat this week as Axe and Wendy get personal
Meanwhile, Taylor is worried about Ax's potential influence over Taylor Mason Carbon after the restructure. They want to keep things completely separate, but they're obviously concerned that this new order of business could complicate things.
(considering taylor says with complete confidence that they won’t be working for a bank, i don’t think “worried” is the right word.)
There are quite a few other business-related dealings in this episode, but what's most interesting is the way so many relationships have now changed, and maybe for good. Chuck and Prince are working well together, while Taylor ends up firing Lauren for not being loyal enough, a bold move that might hurt Taylor Mason Carbon in the long run.
(i think it just might hurt taylor mason carbon in the short term, too.)
Vulture: Billions Recap: Eggs at Dawn
The Billions universe now exists in a post-COVID world, and through no fault of its own, the show is stumbling a bit. Because it’s had to adapt its pre-pandemic scripts, we’re dealing with a few square-peg-in-round-hole situations. Namely, the timeline has become a little murky: We can assume that some months have passed between “Implosion” and “Liberty” because (a) COVID has hit, (b) the Axe Cap offices closed down, and (c) Senior has recovered from his kidney transplant. However, the distribution of vaccines and a full-on return to the office (featuring masks and strategically placed hand sanitizer) would suggest a full year has gone by between last week’s episode and this one — but if that’s the case, then, what? Did the plotlines somehow enter stasis during Billions’ unspecified lockdown period?
My theory is that Axe is the kind of guy who would force everyone back into the office well before most companies did the same. He’s also the kind of guy who has the resources to vaccinate his employees behind closed doors before the trials are even complete.
(i wondered about this, too. obviously it’s been a delay of some months, but axe *would* force everyone back and get them vaccinated early; the only clear timeline cue is adam degiulio describing SCOTUS as “a conservative court,” which i imagine means amy coney barrett has been inaugurated by now.)
The triple alliance of Chuck Rhoades, Mike Prince, and Taylor Mason, established in last week’s episode, appears intact. However, Taylor’s role remains subdued, albeit critical: They put the idea of cornering the cannabis market into Axe’s head.
(they sure did! and honestly it’s kind of weird that axe doesn’t seem to suspect them when he’s been so distrustful of them this season!)
Axe mandates that Taylor’s girlfriend and investment-relations guru Lauren choose between working for Axe Bank or Mase Carb, while Chuck places Wendy’s role with Mase Carb in jeopardy in his quest to get a look at the company’s books — a.k.a. a gateway to Axe Bank’s balance sheets.
The Taylor subplot in this episode is another instance where I can’t decide if they’re getting played or if, because they’re working with Chuck and Prince, they’ve sacrificed their personal and professional relationship with Lauren for a greater good.
At the top of “Liberty,” Chuck has his attorney/BFF Ira Schirmer (Ben Shenkman) send a demand to Wendy under the guise of divorce proceedings: Pay Chuck his alimony in a lump sum of $25 million in 48 hours (as opposed to the agreed-upon payment plan), or else he’s conducting an audit of Mase Carb. This is what spurs a furious Wendy to FaceTime Ira during the Jeffersonian Dinner, where she catches wind of the whole legalizing-cannabis convo that she then passes along to Axe. Axe then conscripts Senior to attend the festivities and report back to him.
(also something i wondered about! does chuck not anticipate his probe into mase carb causing this kind of trouble for taylor, even though he anticipates it motivating wendy to call ira and pick up just enough information about the dinner for axe to listen in? i do believe taylor was genuinely betrayed by wendy here, but i have to wonder how much of this they did or didn’t see coming.)
Much to Taylor’s dismay, Lauren is considering Axe’s offer, because she has a personal history of financial instability. It’s understandable that she doesn’t want to be dependent on anyone, not even Taylor. But things deteriorate quickly when Wendy, refusing to let Chuck get his grubby hands on her company’s books, sells her shares in Mase Carb to Axe for $25 million in cash. This betrayal (or is it? Notice that Taylor wouldn’t give Wendy a loan, and they’re working with Chuck and Prince, so what gives?) pushes Taylor to insist upon an immediate decision from Lauren, which results in an acrimonious breakup and Lauren moving over to Axe Bank.
(uh, that last sentence is not correct. taylor didn’t demand a decision from lauren, they made the decision by firing lauren and telling her they’ll prevent her from working for axe.)
The slow-burn of all slow-burns that is the Wendy/Axe relationship finally culminates in the most Billions way possible: Axe admits to Wendy that he sabotaged her relationship with Tanner because he wants her, and she reciprocates those feelings. Aww, nothing says romance like stalking and destroying another man’s livelihood.
(i’ll say it again: SO TRUE VULTURE.)
Fan Fun with Damian Lewis: Billions on Showtime, Season 5 Episode 10: Liberty
When Taylor mentions cannabis money in their zoom meeting with Axe, Rian looks totally surprised because she told Taylor earlier that cannabis money was a “red light.” And when she later asks Taylor why they recommended cannabis money to Axe, she receives Taylor’s “trust me” piece.
So… is this THE plan Chuck, Prince and Taylor agreed to as they plotted to take Axe down? I have now flagged the word cannabis and follow it closely in this episode. And, yes, we hear it again later from Taylor’s new partners-in-crime: Chuck and Prince!
(again, i have to wonder how axe figured out that chuck & prince were playing him on this but hasn’t connected it to taylor yet!)
Now tell me. If you are Chuck, and you are holding this Jeffersonian dinner with the likes of the NY governor, a NY senator, the Manhattan DA, the Solicitor General and Mike Prince of all people. Would you actually like your soon-to-be-ex-wife interrupt your dinner with a Face time call?
No.
Given that Chuck certainly knows Wendy will get pissed and give him a call as soon as she receives the papers, why doesn’t he make Ira send them to Wendy tomorrow morning and have his dinner party in peace?
BECAUSE, I CLAIM, HE WANTS WENDY TO CALL. I AM CALLING IT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, CHUCK WANTS WENDY TO CALL, SEE THE MEETING AND LET AXE KNOW ALL ABOUT IT. THIS IS THE TRAP HE AND PRINCE HAVE SET UP FOR AXE.
(lmaooo you got it! and yes, that bolding is in the original article.)
Wendy selling her shares to Axe is a huge blow to Taylor. Taylor has seen Wendy as their ally and now she is saying they can trust Axe?!?!
“He would not do anything that would hurt. I’m the only person in the world that’s true of.”
While Taylor may be right that whoever they trust have chosen to fuck them over, I do not think Lauren is one of them. Firing Lauren, not only from her position at TMC but also from their life together, may be Taylor’s first irrational decision. I think Lauren was just being honest with Taylor and she certainly did not deserve “IR girls are growing on trees these days” insult from Taylor. I register this as Taylor’s first slip. And I cannot help wonder if Axe knew about Lauren’s background and he put her on the spot deliberately to destroy Taylor’s alliance with her.
(AGREED. about this being an irrational move by taylor, i mean. i don’t think it’s their first such move, and i don’t see any reason to believe that axe was plotting anything by making lauren choose one job.)
You know – some fans have been waiting to hear these words for the last five years 🙂
Not me. I have always been, and still am, in the tiny minority that does not want Axe and Wendy to get into a romantic relationship.
(the WHIPLASH between these two paragraphs. wow. and we’re right there with you!!)
This is not a show for “and they lived happily every after” kind of story. So me thinks this relationship may be doomed from the get-go, courtesy of Chuck! I believe Wendy, unknowingly, may have dragged Axe into the cannabis money which may not end well for him. And now that Taylor knows about Wendy’s new relationship with Axe, their new partner-in-crime Chuck may have more room to manipulate – unless he does not drop dead because of a heart attack as he gets the news!
(agreed!!!)
Fan Fun with Damian Lewis: The Unbeatable, Unstoppable, Unparalleled MVPs from Billions Season 5 Episode 10 Liberty
Perfect Pompous Portmanteau-er – Bobby Axelrod. Even Axe can turn a pandemic into something of self-importance. He’s just referred to the CoVid-19 vaccination shot as himself from his own ship-name generator: “So those of you with your masks off, we’ve v-AXE-d (vaxxed) ya.”
(…what?? what makes you think he isn’t just saying “vaxxed” normally??)
Stellar OMG Moment, Take 2 – Axe has a thing for Wendy, and tells her so over the phone. The Writer’s Room needs to stop fucking with my head, AGAIN. The co-creators DESPISED any time the internet trolls shipped Wendy and Axe in the early days. What the hell? This goes against everything Brian Koppelman ever said about these two characters. My guess is, it won’t happen for one reason or another, like, yanno, Wendy inadvertently taking Axe and his bank down with Chuck’s lump sum ruse in combination with Axe’s ego by trying to corner the cannabis market before Prince does. But the writer’s sure are dick-teasing us with this romance before everything comes to an end. No pun intended.
(RIGHT? they’ve said on more than one occasion that the wendy-axe relationship isn’t romantic! including a podcast episode they did about an earlier episode of season 5! what gives!)
Pettiest Move – Taylor
(🙁.)
The ‘Axe is Right About One Thing’ Award – Wendy did fuck up in her handling of Tanner. She was supposed to make him productive for Axe. Instead she started an affair with him, which is ENTIRELY unprofessional. You know for someone who started in season one so pure and so above the fray, she has been just as bad in some ways as Bobby and Chuck. In some ways worse. She took an oath as part of her job, as did Chuck. Those two have definitely desecrated those oaths over the years. Bobby took no such oath of course, except to make as much money as possible. Point being, she is far from being the white knight of this group -I don’t know who is. Sacker?
(insert my post about reporting wendy to the medical board again, this time for dating one of her clients. not sure i agree that she was ever really Pure and Above The Fray, though. and sacker, great as she is, hardly qualifies as a white knight. remember that time she fabricated evidence?)

Voyager Post-Show Books Read Order + Rewatch List
I’m lending my Voyager + some TNG books to my mom to read, and I sent her an email with this list that I made. I thought it might be helpful for other people, (and also it’d be easier for me to find next time) if I posted it online somewhere.
First, it’s also a read order for the major books covering Voyager happenings plus a few TNG books that I also own for the same era. It’s got all the major Voyager happenings in it, and a few TNG books that are optional, though most play into what’s happening with Voyager.
In reading the books, I found it was helpful to go back and rewatch certain episodes to do things like remember who the minor / guest characters were and their plots when they showed back up, or review some character arcs for the main characters, or just the overarching plots of episodes which the books referenced.
I also linked to their pages on Memory Alpha for easy referencing, but rewatching is better.
Unless otherwise marked, suggested episodes below are Voyager episodes.
Any episodes I put a * after I'd say is critical to understanding the book(s), otherwise it's just helpful. I’m happy to add to this list if anyone has other suggestions.
Voyager - Homecoming - This book deals with the immediate aftermath of Voyager's Endgame (the series finale). This and the next book are a two-parter. They're good but not great. The Voyager books get much better starting with the fifth. Rewatch List - Non Sequitur (2x05) Hunters (4x15) Lineage (7x12) Prophecy (7x14) * Author, Author (7x20) Endgame (the very last episode) *
Voyager - The Farther Shore - Part 2 of the above.
Voyager - Old Wounds - This and the next Voyager book are also a two-parter. They are... okay. The Voyager books get a new author after this and then they get really, really, really good. Rewatch List - Tattoo - (2x09) * Nothing Human (5x08) TNG Journey's End (7x20) (Chakotay's people live on the planet Starfleet is trying to relocate in this TNG episode.)
Voyager - Enemy of My Enemy - Part 2 of the above.
TNG - Death in Winter - Non-essential for Voyager. This takes place shortly after the movie Nemesis and deals with Picard having to rebuild the crew. This is maybe the worst of all the books I've read in this series, but one important thing does happen. Rewatch List - TNG Nemesis (the movie) * Eventually, you're going to want to rewatch the below episodes, I think it'd be useful to watch them before the following books. TNG - The Best of Both Worlds 1 and 2 (3x26, 4x1) Voyager - The Q and The Grey (3x11) * Voyager - Scorpion Part 1 and 2 (3x26, 4x1)
TNG - Resistance - Moderately important for future Voyager stuff, skip if you want. Most rewatch episodes were covered above.
TNG - Q&A - Honestly, a rewatch list for Q&A would be every single episode with Q in it that hasn’t been touched on. This is maybe my favorite of the TNG-only books on this list, but it’s not very important for the Voyager list.
Voyager - Full Circle - FIRST HALF ONLY!!! - There's a break in the middle of this book, with a timeskip in between. ONLY READ THE FIRST HALF at this point if you’re doing an in-order read with TNG books as well. If you don’t care about anything but explicitly Voyager books, skip down to #12 as Beyer does a good job of explaining what happens in the subsequent books between the two parts of Full Circle. This is also the book where Voyager starts becoming amazing. The only bad thing about Kirsten Beyer's books is you'll be sad all the rest of the Star Trek books aren't as good as hers. No watchlist as mostly the first half of the book is wrapping up the storylines from Christine Golden's first four Voyager books.
TNG - Before Dishonor - This is nearly as much a Voyager book as TNG. This book is instrumental in understanding everything that happens afterwards. I won’t get into my opinion about the book itself though because it’s not very flattering. You probably want to read at least the first and last chapters, the rest is... skippable if you’re not enjoying it. If you haven't rewatched Voyager's The Q and the Grey and Endgame yet, you're really going to want to here.
TNG - Greater Than the Sum - Just started reading this one, I’ll update once I’m done. Yes, I’m reading some of these books very of out of order. :) *edit* It was an improvement over Before Dishonor, I’d recommend reading as it does bridge into the next books.
TNG/VOY/DS9/More - Destiny Trilogy - (Gods of Night/Mere Mortals/Lost Souls - I bought them all as a collection) This is a massive crossover event trilogy but next on my to-read list I do know that characters from TNG, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, plus Titan (Riker's ship) are all in it. I don't have a rewatch list but I'll make it as I get to reading it. *Edit* OK I’ve finished reading it. My opinion is that you should read this trilogy. Yes, it’s long, but also very worth it. Probably my favorite non-Voyager books on this list. There are only a couple of cameos of Voyager characters but they are meaningful, and Seven has a small storyline of her own, as does Tuvok (since he’s on the Titan serving under Riker.) The writing is very good, the story is great, and reading it massively increased my understanding of and investment in a major storyline throughout the rest of the Voyager books. I also just really, really enjoyed it. If you don’t want to read anything else not explicitly Voyager, I still rec you read this trilogy. Rewatch List Enterprise: Home (4x03)* Affliction (4x15) & Divergence (4x16)
Okay, now read the second half of Full Circle. Cry a lot about it. Everything I talk about from here on out is just Voyager.
Unworthy - The adventure finally re-begins! Rewatch List In The Flesh (5x04) Okay but maybe put off rewatching this episode after the climax of the books. Life Line (6x24) Homestead (7x23) TNG - Darmok (5x02) (The new Voyager CMO is a Tamarian, though you can put off rewatching this until Acts of Contrition if you really want, the character doesn't get important til then.)
Children of the Storm - No rewatch list.
The Eternal Tide - My FAVORITE of all the books. Rewatch List- Q2 (7x19) * The Gift (4x02) TNG True Q (6x06)
Protectors - This and the next two books are their own trilogy, so the below episodes are for all three. Rewatch List - Twisted (2x06) Unity (3x17) Counterpoint (5x10) Dragon's Teeth (6x07) Unimatrix Zero (6x24) and Part II (7x01) (If you haven't rewatched TNG - Darmok 5x02 yet, do that now)
Acts of Contrition
Atonement
A Pocket Full of Lies - Watch List - Year of Hell Parts 1 and 2 (4x08 and 09) * Shattered (7x11) *
Architects of Infinity - It’s been a couple of months since my first reads of these two books but I don’t recall any particular episodes jumping out as needed rewatches as I did. Let me know if you think I’m wrong and I’ll update the list.

LUCY
“I’ll go pick up another pack of tests,” Lucy offered as they stared down at the one test in question, but nobody tore their gaze away from the faint pink line on the test.
“No, I’ll call my doctor,” Angela said, breaking the spell. “I know she’ll fit us in for a blood test. If we get this over by the lunch hour, then we might even have results by tonight.”
Lucy continued to stare at the test while she absentmindedly followed Angela’s phone call.
When she woke up that morning, it had been just another day. She and Tim took Kojo for an early run in which halfway through, Kojo plunged belly first into a muddy puddle and rolled around. While Tim hosed him off in the backyard, Lucy made breakfast: Salmon for Kojo and an omelet for the two of them.
She loved the pace they’d been taking their relationship. They had found their rhythm. Nothing felt forced and they organically began to spend more and more time together.
Part of that meant spending time with Tim’s sister and her kids. Both Tim and Lucy had gotten involved in the boy’s baseball team earlier in the year and it had been more fun than she could have imagined. These days, Genny and Lucy didn’t need an excuse to hang out.
Tim pretended to be annoyed by the two of them colluding, especially when Genny told embarrassing stories from Tim’s past in painstakingly clear detail, but she knew he secretly loved the friendship they were developing.
And on the flip side … Tim now (unwillingly) knew everything about Sabrina Carpenter after spending many nights and mornings at their apartment listening to Tamara prattle on about her favorite female artist. Tim would tease Tamara and ask if there was a friend she could call to discuss the latest Sabrina celebrity news with instead, to which she’d reply that she preferred the challenge of converting Tim to her way of thinking much more. Tamara even set a New Year’s Resolution of dragging Lucy and Tim to a Sabrina Carpenter concert, not having the slightest clue that they’d already purchased a set of VIP passes to an upcoming show for Tamara’s birthday.
It all felt natural. It felt right.
Would this fracture that feeling?
“Thank you so much, Dr. Stone,” Angela gushed into the phone. “Yes, we will head over right now. See you soon.”
“Do you want to ride with us?” Nyla asked.
“Yeah,” Lucy swallowed. “Let me just tell Tim I’m taking an early lunch and then I’ll meet you in the parking lot.”
“Okay,” Angela nodded. “Be quick.”
Lucy should have anticipated that Tim would be waiting in the hall outside of the locker room. It wasn’t lost on him that Nyla and Angela rushed out from behind her and she was sure he noticed their flustered expressions.
He waited until the other two women were out of earshot before bringing it up.
“So?” Tim asked, drawing out the end of the word into a question.
“The result was … inconclusive,” Lucy said. “I’m going to take an early lunch and pop over to the doctor’s office for a blood test. Can you manage for an hour without me?”
“Of course,” Tim said. He looked around the room. “How is it inconclusive? Isn’t it just like an aim and pee thing with a yes or no answer?”
“Yes, usually,” Lucy whispered, “but something went wrong.”
“What went wrong?” Tim asked, confusion sewn into his expression.
“I can’t go into the details right now,” Lucy said, blushing. It wasn’t like she could tell him what happened without revealing that Angela and Nyla were in the same boat and she wanted to respect their privacy. “Just trust me on this. If I don’t get the results by tonight, we can try taking another test at home after shift.”
“Okay,” Tim conceded. “Let me just get Grey to cover for me and I can come with you.”
“No, he’ll be too suspicious,” Lucy pointed out and Tim’s face dropped. “But I think after today we should make a plan to tell Grey and to tell our friends. It’s time.”
“Alright, if you’re sure?” Tim prodded, his eyes full of concern. He could always tell when she was putting on a front.
“Yeah,” Lucy said with a soft smile. “I’ll see you in a bit.”
She stopped herself from reaching out to him. She really wanted to hug him, but she couldn’t. Not here, not when they were at work and near so many prying eyes. Not when she knew she’d break as soon as his arms slipped around her.
She knew the honeymoon phase of their relationship wouldn’t last forever but to have it potentially shift so abruptly because of this new, incredibly big thing was too much for her to absorb.
She loved Tim and his reaction in the shop earlier had made her love him even more. She wanted to start a family with him eventually but she’d give almost anything to be able to do it their way and on their timeline.
Angela spotted her as she walked through the parking lot and waved her over to the unmarked vehicle. Lucy took a steadying breath and tried to push away the sinking feeling in her gut.
Angela
As they were wrapping up at the doctor’s office, Angela got a call about a homicide scene that they were needed on. After they arrived, Lucy immediately jumped into the action to help Officer Jan set the perimeter and begin canvassing for witnesses while Nyla began to interview the person who’d called in the DB to 9-1-1.
Tim gave Angela the official readout of the scene and she diligently took notes, but she couldn’t help checking her watch every few minutes. The doctor promised to put a rush on the bloodwork and said she’d call each of them with the results as soon as possible.
Angela wanted to know those results so badly. She needed to know.
“Are you okay?” Tim asked after repeating the answer to a question she already asked. “You seem off.”
She sighed despondently.
“You can’t say anything to Wes until I know for sure,” she warned and he nodded apprehensively. “I might be pregnant again.”
Tim blinked.
”For fuck’s sake, is there something in the water? ” He muttered it quietly under his breath and if she didn’t have freakishly good hearing, she would have missed it entirely.
“What?” Angela whispered irritably. “Oh my god, did Lucy tell you?”
“What? No,” Tim stammered. “Unless … What did she tell you?”
“Timothy,” Angela warned, “what did Lucy say?”
“She told me she’s late,” Tim whispered defensively. “That’s it. I had no idea you were going through the same thing.”
“Oh.” Angela shook her head, surprised that Lucy would share something so sensitive with Tim. “Forget about that. We’ll circle back to me in a second.
She knew they were close, but Lucy had to know on some level that Tim had feelings for her.
“I’m just so sorry, Tim,” Angela said with a sigh and gave his arm a light squeeze. “I didn’t even know Lucy was seeing someone.”
Tim’s jaw hung open temporarily as she watched him find his words again. Poor guy. He must be reeling.
“I’m fine,” Tim said slowly. “Really, I am. You don’t need to worry about me. Are you ok with this? You were just telling me you were pretty sure Jackson was going to be an only child.”
“No, I’m not ok,” Angela admitted. “And I feel like a terrible person saying that out loud.”
Tim slung his arm over her shoulder.
“How can I help?”
“Just moral support,” Angela said. “And let me vent and complain if this test is positive about how hard my life is, even when it might seem unreasonable.”
“Of course,” Tim said. He gave her shoulder a quick squeeze and then let her go. “What are friends for?”
“And Tim?” Angela turned so she was facing him. “I am sorry about Lucy. I really thought you two were heading in the same direction.”
She watched Tim’s expression change. She expected him to look sad, maybe a little lost, but instead she found a mixture of guilt and … something else on his face.
What was going on?
“Fuck,” he muttered under his breath. “I really should talk to Lucy before I tell you anything.”
“Tell me what?” Angela’s pulse kicked up a beat.
Tim glanced at Lucy in the distance and she saw it in his eyes. This wasn’t a man yearning, this man was adoring someone he already had.
Oh my god, how had she missed the signs?
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” Tim rushed to say as Angela’s eyes widened. “Lucy and I really just wanted to keep something for ourselves for a while and then I blinked and three months had gone by. Honestly, there were a number of times I was sure you’d already figured it out–”
“Oh my god,” Angela grabbed his arm and pulled him down to her level. He almost tripped over his own foot. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
“If Lucy’s pregnant,” Tim whispered with a smile on his face, “that’s my kid.”
Angela felt the shout of glee build in her chest before she could contain it.
“Shhhh,” Tim looked around nervously. She could see several officers looking over at them from the corner of her eye. “You have to keep it a secret. We’re still figuring out the work side of things.”
“I am going to hug the shit out of both of you later,” Angela said with the biggest smile on her face. Then she punched Tim in the arm. Hard.
“Ow,” Tim said, rubbing the spot.
“I have been feeling sorry for you ALL day. You could have told me,” Angela scolded.
“I know,” Tim assured her. “And I trust you. We just wanted to make sure this thing was real first.”
“Is it?” She asked, even though she already knew the answer.
“Yeah,” Tim said with a deliriously happy smile. “As real as it gets.”
Angela was gearing up to tell Tim how happy she was for him when Nyla walked up and narrowed her eyes at the two of them.
“There is literally a dead body twenty feet from you,” she scolded. “Could you stop smiling so much? The other cops are starting to think you’re both sociopaths.”
“Tim was just cheering me up,” Angela explained. “What do we have?”
Angela worked to switch her brain back into work mode, but only managed to quell her excitement down to a half smile on her face as she walked the crime scene with Nyla.
Her best friend was finally happy and she knew it was the forever-kind-of-happy. She had a second-hand happy high that she just couldn’t shake.
NYLA
Nyla reached for her phone after the ding indicated she had a text message. They were getting close to wrapping up their day and had a few more solid leads to run down but it was nothing that couldn’t wait until morning.
From: Lucy | To: Angela & Nyla
Just got the call. Mine was negative! Phew! Good luck <;3
Angela sighed audibly from across the desk. She saw her shoot off a reply and then did the same. Nyla’s pulse kicked up as she realized her chances were now fifty-fifty.
When Angela’s phone rang next, their eyes met and Angela nodded before stepping away to answer. Around the same time, Tim and Lucy went into Grey’s office. It wasn’t something she would typically notice, but their body language was … strange.
Grey hung his head in his hands for a moment before looking up at both of them with a huge smile on his face. He rounded his desk and hugged them both. Lucy hugged him back enthusiastically but Bradford looked stiff and awkward.
Nyla smirked.
It looked like ‘Chenford’ (as Smitty called them) was finally coming clean.
“Nolan,” Grey opened his office door and called out. “Could you join us?”
Nyla leaned back in her chair to enjoy the show. Moments later, Nolan’s jaw dropped in complete disbelief and Nyla chuckled in her seat. She wasn’t surprised that Nolan hadn’t suspected a thing. She’d noticed Lucy and Nolan slowly drift apart after Jackson’s death. Whether that was due to their respective lives getting busier, or a subconscious decision to distance themselves from painful memories, she wasn’t sure.
Regardless, Nolan seemed genuinely happy for them.
“Nyla,” Angela said from behind her. She spun around in her chair.
“What’s the word?” Nyla asked, trying to hide the hope in her voice.
“My test was negative,” Angela said slowly. “Which means–”
Nyla’s heart pounded in her ears as her phone rang. She answered it right away.
“I’m calling for Nyla Harper.” Nyla recognized Dr. Stone’s voice from earlier.
“Hi, Dr. Stone,” Nyla said. “Thank you for rushing the test results. Lay it on me.”
“They were negative for pregnancy,” Dr. Stone cut to the chase. “But I did see something interesting in your bloodwork that makes me think you could have gotten the false positive on the take home test.”
“I didn’t know that was possible,” Nyla responded, letting the news wash over her. So she wouldn’t be a mom again. At least, not yet.
“It’s very rare, but sometimes a UTI can trigger a false positive. You do have minimal hCG levels present for detection but if you were pregnant, those levels would continue to climb throughout your first trimester and then level off,” Dr. Stone explained. “For at home test to be positive, the levels would have had to be much higher earlier today since those tests are far less sensitive than blood tests.”
“Okay,” Nyla said. “What does that mean for me?”
“I see an elevated white blood cell count in your CBC panel, which indicates an infection is probably present,” Dr. Stone said. “If you can come back in tomorrow or later this week, I can run a urinalysis to confirm it. Then we can send you home with antibiotics to treat it.”
“Other than that, I’m fine?” Nyla asked.
“Yes, as far as I can tell, you’re very healthy,” Dr. Stone confirmed.
Nyla stayed on the phone long enough to schedule an appointment and then hung up. She jerked in her seat when she realized Angela was standing right behind her.
“Jesus, wear a bell,” Nyla chided.
“So you’re–”
“Not pregnant,” Nyla finished the sentence. “Doc says I might have triggered a false positive. I probably have a UTI and I’m going back tomorrow to confirm.”
“So none of us are pregnant?” Angela asked.
“Not a one,” Nyla confirmed.
“Then maybe we should all go grab celebratory drinks?” Angela suggested.
“Rain check,” Nyla smiled politely, wishing she could match Angela’s level of relief. “I am wiped.”
“Okay,” Angela said and gathered her things. “Have a good night. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“See ya.”
Nyla sighed and let the disappointment sit with her for a minute. It’s not the right time , she told herself, and she could be okay with that.
There was a silver lining to all of this. Now she knew how she really felt about adding to her family. She made her way home to James to see if he felt the same way.
LUCY
Lucy walked across the parking lot with Tim by her side, grinning from ear to ear about finally having their relationship out and in the open.
“How are you feeling?” Tim nudged her softly with his elbow.
“About telling Grey?” Lucy asked.
“That too,” Tim nodded, “but more so about the negative pregnancy test.”
“Honestly?” Lucy bit her lip nervously. “I’m relieved. You?”
“Me too,” Tim said with a sigh.
“Really?” Lucy prodded. “I know you’re ready to start a family but–”
“Eventually,” Tim corrected her. “But right now? I’m so happy with exactly where we are.”
“Me too.” Lucy smiled up at him and grabbed his hand.
“Wow,” Tim brought her hand to his lips and pressed a quick kiss to her knuckles. “I can’t believe we can actually do this now.”
“It’s almost like we’re a normal couple,” Lucy agreed with a laugh and swung his arm playfully as they walked.
Once they at his truck, Tim twisted her in his arms.
“What are you doing?” Her voice was husky as his face neared her own.
“What normal couples do.” He slid his hand behind her neck and brushed his fingers into her hair before closing the distance between their lips. His kiss felt like a vow, holding the promise of all the amazing milestones yet to come.
“I could get used to this,” Lucy mumbled against his lips.
“You better because I’m planning to keep doing it.”
“Fine by me,” Lucy said with a smirk. “Because I’m planning on keeping you forever.”
“Forever, huh?” Tim smiled teasingly and leaned back a hair. “I’m going to need to check my schedule first.”
“Oh, do I need to call your gofer so he can pencil me into your calendar?” Lucy said with a snort.
“That would be great,” Tim tossed back but she could see the corner of his lip creeping up.
“Don’t make me hurt you,” she warned lightheartedly, swatting his chest.
He captured her wrist swiftly and pulled her in close until her arm was wrapped around his neck. She rested her other palm on his chest, inhaling sharply in anticipation.
“You know what I think?” He teased, the grumble of his voice vibrating against her wrist.
“Hmm?” Lucy hummed, her gaze dropping from his eyes to his lips.
“Forever is a really good place to start.”
When his lips crashed down on hers this time, she felt giddy butterflies take flight in her belly. Their future played like a movie on the back of her eyelids but she blinked them away. The future could wait. She was focused on the here and now with the most important person in her life.

This one has been on my mind for awhile. Perhaps one where brainy has to go away and he leaves Nia in charge of the D.E.O, I can imagine she wouldn’t be the best and crack under pressure haha. Love your stories 💜
- This might be a little different to what you imagined, but I thought I’d set this with Nia heading a mission instead of the whole of the DEO. To add even more tension, I’ve set this scene somewhere post 5x10, so Nia and Brainy are on rocky ground. Thanks for the prompt! x
When Brainy had first proposed Nia take charge of a DEO operation, she’d laughed it off pretty easily.
It was only when his was response was to stare at her, one brow raised in confusion, that her face fell.
“Wait,” Nia said, clearing her throat awkwardly. “You’re serious?”
“Undoubtedly so,” Brainy said, narrowing his eyes. “Did I- did I phrase that in a comedic manner?”
Nia blinked. “No. No, you – you sounded serious. I just, I’m finding it hard to believe.” She gestured at herself. “Me? You want me to run a DEO mission? As in, control your agents?”
“That is what leading a mission pertains, yes.”
Okay, now he was being sarcastic. Although, Nia had to admit that it was becoming increasingly harder to tell ever since the whole inhibitor thing. Honestly, Nia hadn’t known what to think when Brainy had summoned her to the DEO that afternoon. On all accounts, he’d been doing everything in his power to evade her ever since their break-up.
A part of her hadn’t wanted to come. She was a vigilante, and though Supergirl had ties with the DEO, considering recent tensions, Dreamer tried to avoid the organisation where she could. There were people on the streets that didn’t trust the DEO for a variety of reasons, even in this new-Earth hellscape where everyone had been brainwashed into loving Lex Luthor. There were humans and aliens alike out there that were still dubious of Lex’s agenda and, who could blame them? They were right.
Nia could have pretended that was the only reason for her apprehension, but who was she kidding? Seeing that text from Brainy, asking her to see him after literal months of radio silence, didn’t sit well with her. She still got a lump in her throat anytime she saw his name pop up on her phone, and felt a crazy surge of butterflies in her stomach whenever he turned up in person after an alien altercation, even if it was alongside his legion of DEO personnel.
It shouldn’t have been this hard, but it was, and she knew why. Despite Brainy’s attempts at acting cold and detached around her, there was still something so incredibly warm behind his eyes, something he was fighting hard to keep hidden from her.
Why the hell he was doing it, Nia didn’t know, and she shouldn’t have cared. Letting it eat her alive like this wasn’t helping anyone. If he didn’t want to be with her after what had happened… then, she had to accept that.
Even though she hated it. Even though she couldn’t help but question whether encouraging Brainy to ditch his inhibitors had been the right call at all. She didn’t think she’d seen a real smile touch his lips since that night at Al’s bar. Didn’t think she’d seen anything other than a deadened exhaustion on his face since he’d stood inches from her in her apartment and torn her heart in two.
Now, whenever Brainy opened his mouth, it was only the Director of the DEO who spoke. Not her best friend. Not her-
No. Not her boyfriend. Not anymore.
She’d pushed that all aside to come here, but now she was really beginning to regret that decision.
“Why me?” Nia asked finally, folding her arms.
Brainy mirrored her stance, lifting his chin. “I calculated a ninety-six percent success rate with your leadership on this mission. The alien we are looking for has psychic abilities closely matching the signature of Naltorian dream energy. Thus – dreaming of our target should be incredibly easy for you.” He shrugged. “Your other powers will prove proficient in the field, too. You can protect and guide my agents better than anyone within this organisation.”
“Wow, Brainy,” Nia said stiffly. “That nearly sounded like a compliment.”
“It is a fact,” Brainy said, although for just a second, Nia was certain she could detect a tremble behind those words. Brainy swallowed quickly, as though to cover himself, before lowering his voice. “Will you do it?”
“Of course,” Nia said immediately. “If I can protect these people, then of course I’ll do it. I’ll always help you—the, um, the DEO, I mean. I- I’m happy to help.” Nia could feel her face beginning to warm all over again. She winced. “You know what I meant,” she muttered.
“I do,” Brainy said, although something in his tone suggested that he wasn’t referring to her promise about the DEO, either.
Nia elected to ignore it. Instead, she rolled her shoulders, straightening her back. “Okay, then,” she said, curling her hands into fists. “When do we start?”
                                                         ______
In the next thirty minutes, Nia found herself packed away in a DEO-issued vehicle alongside half a dozen field agents. The rest of her team were in the van tailing directly behind them. Every agent was decked out in unmarked uniforms, bullet proof vests, helmets, plus a full inventory of energy guns shared out amongst them.
In her costume - no helmet, no vest and certainly no guns - Nia suddenly felt seriously underdressed. She flexed her hands a few times, staring down at her gloves. She had to remember why Brainy had asked her to do this. She didn’t need fancy energy guns. Her abilities were her energy, and they were necessary to bring this alien in safely. She could do this.
It didn’t matter that she didn’t remember any of these agents’ names, or that the sense of camaraderie in the small space was pretty much non-existent, she just had to be a leader.
If Kara could take charge in times of crisis, then so could she. The only thing stopping Nia was the anxious knot balling inside of her stomach.
You can protect and guide my agents, Brainy’s voice reminded her. It wasn’t exactly the motivational speech she’d been hoping for, but under the circumstances, she’d take what she could get. Even still, she couldn’t help but wish Brainy had come on this mission with her.
But, oh no, he was the Director now. And he had other matters to attend to.
At least, that was the excuse he’d given her.
“Did you hear me?”
Nia’s head jerked up, right into the no-nonsense, stone-faced expression of the DEO agent sat opposite her. She realised belatedly that the van had stopped some time ago, and that her fellow passengers sat closest to the door had already started climbing out.
“I said we’re here,” the agent said, jerking his chin towards the door.
“Oh,” Nia said, shifting from her seat. “Great.”
Yeah. Not exactly the all-powerful words of a full-fledged leader. She gritted her teeth, straightening up as soon as she’d jumped out of the car.
“Alright, Nia,” she muttered to herself. “Your time to shine. Don’t screw it up.”
She marched out to the agents grouping up outside the two stationary vehicles. They’d parked in what could be best described as a cement graveyard; nothing but dilapidated buildings for miles – perfect squatting grounds. It was exactly where Nia had dreamt that their target would be hiding out.
“Okay,” Nia said, trying to put as much power behind her voice that she could muster. She’d stopped just a few feet ahead of her audience. The moment that she spoke, every set of eyes had turned to her. Some of them… more dubiously than others. Mostly, though, they seemed to be waiting on her instruction.
Which… which would be great, if she even knew where to start.
Normally, Super Friend patrols were comprised of, like, three or four people at most. And even then, they usually ended up splitting up throughout the night. But, there were so many agents in front of her now, all here for just one alien. If a dozen DEO agents went in there at once, there was no way they wouldn’t end up spooking their target.
God, vigilante work was way stealthier than this.
“So,” Nia said, clenching her jaw. “Plan of action, we need to find this alien. So, um, split up?”
“Are you asking us or telling us?” one of the agents muttered. He was rewarded with a few smiles and poorly disguised snickers.
Frustration flooded Nia’ chest. She opened her mouth, more than prepared to snap out a remark of her own, when another agent raised their voice.
A young woman, maybe only a few years older than Nia. “Normally, we run recon first,” she said helpfully, gesturing out towards the buildings. “To get a lay of the land.”
The look in her eyes clearly expressed that she was less than thrilled about the other agents’ behaviour towards her. Nia’s jaw relaxed a little. “Sounds good,” she said, nearly offering a thumbs up before thinking better of it. Instead, she threw her hands hastily to her hips, offering an impromptu hero stance.
“Is this your first time doing this or something?” the same agent as before asked, this time loud enough to be heard by all of his peers.
Nia bit back the urge to respond.
Unfortunately, that didn’t stop the wash of murmurs that followed the agent’s insult.
“Great,” the agent at his side whispered. “No one said we were gonna get stuck with the side-kick.”
“Hey!” Nia snapped, taking a step forward. “I am no one’s side-kick, okay? In fact, I’m your best shot at fighting this enemy. Do you guys even know what you’re up against?” Nia lifted her hands out at her sides, feeling a powerful surge of dream energy crackle from her fingers, curling around her hands in vibrant shades of blue.
Immediately, the agents in front of her straightened their stances, their expressions sobering. Any chatter was cut off outright.
Nia grinned. “Exactly. Your enemy has powers like this.” She clenched her hands, allowing the power to simmer in the centre of her palms before petering out entirely. When she was confident she had everyone’s undivided attention, she narrowed her eyes. “Your Director asked for me to keep you all safe, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. If anyone has a problem with that.” She threw her hand back towards the stationary vans. “Feel free to get your ass back to the DEO and tell Director Dox exactly why you left an active mission with your tail between your legs.”
When no one moved, Nia folded her arms, lifting her chin proudly. She caught the small smile of the female agent from before, and had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep a straight face.
“Right,” Nia continued. “Now you’ve got that out of your systems, let’s get to business. Recon.” She jerked her head towards the agent who had started the trouble in the first place, narrowing her eyes playfully. “You; take four of your team and go up ahead, scout the exterior of the building for any movement. Remember, there could be civilians out there, so we do this carefully. I expect all your guns to be on stun only and not to be used unless you’re completely certain you have our target in your sites. Got it?”
The agent, who had been gawking at Nia’s hands and very little else, nodded his head. He turned towards a few of his fellow agents, flashing a couple of fancy hand signals which they quickly responded to, flanking him on both sides.
As he brushed past Nia, he paused, glancing at her warily. “You – uh – didn’t get any bad dream senses about this, right?”
Nia rolled her eyes. Now he was taking her seriously. Better late than never. “Trust me,” she said sharply, “you’re fine. Like I said, I’m here to keep you safe.” She stared at him levelly. “All of you safe.”
“Right. Sorry, ma’am,” the agent said, ducking his head as he righted his gun. “It won’t- it won’t happen again.”
Nia only nodded, watching carefully as he headed out with his team to survey the area.
Once most of the agents were out of sight, only then did Nia allow herself a moment to smile.
Maybe she’d never run a DEO mission before, but maybe that didn’t matter. Brainy had said it himself, after all, this mission’s success depended on her.
But, this wasn’t about what Brainy thought. Besides, it certainly didn’t seem like he cared.
Although, maybe…
Nia shook herself. No. Thinking about what he’d said, the way he’d said it would have to wait for another day.
Today, she was gonna be the best team leader the DEO had ever seen.

--
This made me realize once again how much Fandom helped me through the pandemic for a few months - browsing through my own tags there’s so much stuff I’d completely forgotten about!
1) “Jane Doe” - a 3 part comic series (especially the first one)
Post 5x10, where Jane has lost her memories because of the ZIP, and slowly bonds again with Kurt and the team. Originally it was meant to be a 4 to 5 part comic series, but I needed to get it done before the finale aired, and I ran out of time. Since I have the lines written down somewhere, I may write it as a fic at some point, albeit a very minimalist one (and it would count as canon divergent post 5x10), because it was meant to be a comic script.
Still, the first part of this comic took SO LONG and while I can still pick at things I could have done better, I’m proud of it anyway, especially because my specialty are chibi-like drawings. Cute is my cup of tea, serious is haaaard.
2) “Ever After” - a bittersweet Jeller oneshot.
Technically there is a second chapter to this, but reads more as an epilogue, so this could be read as a standalone (and I don’t know if I’ll ever get to finishing that 2nd chapter! I’ll try, though).
I mostly wrote it for myself as a fix-it fic (sort of) after the series finale. While I stubbornly will stay in happy-ending camp, sometimes when I saw images of the sad-ending, that feeling of dread filled my gut. I had some ideas in my head to narratively justify what happened, including the odd dinner scene, so I rushed to write it out while the Muse kicked and screamed at me to do so.
So in the fic, it starts as Jane collapses to the ground, but not everything is rosy and magically fixed. Both Jane and Kurt have to deal with the aftermath of what happened, and be there for each other as they learn their new normal and start healing from it, in the way supportive partners do ♥
3) Nightmares - a hurt/comfort Jeller fanart.
Post 4x12, this is how I’d imagine things may go, at least sometimes. Jane almost died (again), and even though she is now fine, has her memories and is no longer poisoned, losing her is still Kurt’s biggest fear, and he has nightmares about it in the following days or weeks. Not all the time, but when they show, it hits hard. She’d always try to reassure him as best she can, whispering words of comfort as he mumbles incoherently and apologizes for what could have been.
While some details about it still bug me (why am I like this) I still like this drawing a lot. One of the many scenes of Jeller in bed that are in my headcanon, if only finding good references for Jane’s tattoos (other than her arms) wasn’t such a hassle, I swear I’d have done so many more.
4) Honest screencaps: one & two (I couldn’t choose)
I just had to lol when I was rewatching season 1 earlier in the year and screencapping things for drawing reference and because of reasons, some facial expressions where just too good not to caption. The ridiculous lines worked even better as a screencap-comic rather than an actual comic, imo.
It’s so much fun.
5) Too tired for subtlety - a silly Jeller comic.
Early season 5, Kurt is still very much a workaholic, even in the bunker. But this time, Jane is not having it. Mwahaha.
It took a while to find photos of the relevant tattoos, and even then I had to BS a good bunch of them because the images were too blurry to tell xD. I swear if they released an artbook I’d buy it in a second. They could use the same pictures they had in SIOC where Jane was standing up with all her tats, they blur out the necessary bits and have a map of ALL the tattoos, dammit!
How am I supposed to draw Summer Jeller when drawing Jane in a bathing suit is gonna take 5 hours just to find references D:?
Bonus) :D this ridiculous video (feat Rich’s rescue)
Basically, expectations vs reality.
This tiny video took way more than I’d like to admit lol and it still looks so choppy. But it’s part of the charm, right? lol Even so, the idea wouldn’t leave me alone and I had to do it. And I feel honored and proud that Ennis saw it on instagram xD
***
Hmmm, trying to tag people Amy hasn’t tagged yet! @marv-el-spot @birdsaesthetic @mchellesvanity @whatshouldjustbeours @singinprincess
Anyone else, feel free to do it! So much fun.

What do you think will happen in the mid season finale that must be coming up soon?
If we’re getting a 3mnth hiatus wtf...something big has happen to the core couples in 5x10 I’d assume?
Continuing my trend of answering similar messages together!
The question would be, is it intentional to have a three-month hiatus after this episode or not? If they’d written their season specifically for this, then there could be a big explosion. If they’re just behind and had to beg the network for more time, it could be a tiny whimper like 4x19, where some moderately big things happen but are explained away in the first few minutes of the next episode.
That said, they seem to be bringing an awfully large number of people back. In the last week or two as they shot the midseason episode I have seen posts from the actors playing Hermoine (ugh), Donna, Charles, Chic and I believe Glen, all coinciding with the timeline of 5x10.
Now, I couldn’t even guess what that will involve because we haven’t even started the mothmen plotline or had Bughead interacting, and it’s too early to solve the mystery (or the idiotic save-Riverdale plotline). I will probably know more by 5x08 or so but as of now, I am fresh out of ideas.

Sails Extended Story Notes
1/1 Surf Wax and Coffee Chaff
Hyperlinks appear in blue (underlined on mobile and the dashboard). The story is posted here.
But James, he was an anchor. He made sure everyone’s sails were set but he never let them drift out past the breakers. Teresa and Kelly Anne had scared themselves reading about parenting methods, going so far advanced in anticipation of Lena’s arrival that they overlooked the essentials. The first night back from the hospital, once Kelly Anne and Lena were released, Teresa and Kelly Anne were so frazzled in a discussion about changing Lena’s diaper for a solid ten minutes, both worried they were going to do something wrong. Lena had been wailing for a few minutes by then, and both women were also practically in tears, when James went into the nursery and changed the diaper himself, no tutorial or instruction manual necessary.
This story is named after the song “Sails” by MakeWar. I tend to pick songs that I’ve heard ad nauseum but this time that wasn’t the case. I’ve been listening to this one for less than a month! Before hearing anything from the band I read that they were Latinx and signed to Fat Wreck. Knowing they were on Fat Wreck, I had an idea about what they might sound like, and then I read the lyrics for “Sails”. I was only about 20 seconds into hearing the song for the first time and I already knew the story would be titled after it.
The second sentence in the paragraph also has a reference to The Gaslight Anthem’s “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”: never play no pinball or get out past the breakers.
Teresa saw James set down the hair dryer and pick up the wax comb, running the teeth through the Sex Wax—his preferred brand of surf wax—on the board he had up on his workbench. He went back and forth over a section with the comb and then smoothed his other hand over the surface of the surfboard, checking for any wax residue he’d missed. James looked up when he heard the shuffle of Teresa’s flip flops against the concrete floor of the shed.
One does not write a fic about banging on a surfboard and not mention Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax.
Teresa watched James lather up his hands, crouched with the hose over the drain slot on the concrete slab in front of the shed. She admired the muscles in his back, thinking how they felt flexed under her touch, and drew her eyes over the newly familiar designs that made up a full sleeve tattoo. Two years into living in paradise, with much self-discovery and understanding under their belts, Teresa and James had decided they needed tattoo makeovers, because they felt the ones they had no longer represented who they were in their new lives. The goal hadn’t been to remove their old tattoos, because they couldn’t change the past or what they’d gone through, and they’d even both agreed the old ink should stay under the new ink, as reminders of what they were never going back to. They each looked into symbolism of the Zen and nirvana they’d surrounded themselves with, and consulted with the best tattoo artist on the island about how they could seamlessly make something beautiful of their old lives.
For Teresa, the Moyocoyotzin on her forearm was transformed into ocean waves. James had a lot more to cover up, hence the full sleeve and a Mandala flower on his neck where there’d once been a coffin. Teresa always liked to nip at that spot on his neck.
I’ve got to disagree with AB and PG on the whole tattoo removal thing and their characters no longer having tattoos in that 5x10 flash forward. I don’t think Teresa and James spent all that time in paradise and decided their ‘progress’ in their new lives was defined by laser tattoo removal. In my headcanon, they’d get new, beautiful tattoos to cover up the old ones. I always thought James would have looked great with a full sleeve so I had to make that happen here.
James didn’t get to gloat much, not like in the early days, so Teresa let it slide. There were no rules about etiquette and conduct inside the shed. Just the fulfillment of their sexual appetites; their retreat beyond the retreat that was their bedroom. The beach house was architecturally beautiful and big, with many prime spots where the sun poured in from the skylights or the ocean sparkled in the moonlight. Teresa had found herself staring off into space thinking about what she and James could do around the house if they were by themselves. But until they stopped being pseudo parents to their long-term houseguests, the shed was their dreamspace.
The term ‘dreamspace’ is used here because of the song/album “Dreamspace” by Glacier Veins.
They’d only ever tried to hang out in the loft once. They’d pushed all the storage boxes to the corners and put down sheets and pillows, thinking they’d like to roll around and spend their afternoon there [...]
There’s a song by The Backseat Lovers called “Kilby Girl” that goes: And I've got nothing to do and neither do you. So we chase Jack with love and waste away the whole afternoon.
It came to mind when thinking about how Jeresa would want to spend their afternoon.

Cisco happy with the decision to eliminate his powers regresses his character arc...An Essay.
Note: This essay isn’t perfect, and it is riddled with some speculative theory, just trying to wrap my head around season 5 and what exactly was it that they’ve done. I’m emotional. There may be some mistakes. I wrote this kinda all in one sitting. I didn’t edit. We may agree or disagree on some things. That’s fine. But this is my take.
I need to to just to talk about something.
Cisco happy with the decision to eliminate his powers regresses his character arc.
Now, if he took a break from being Vibe, that, I could potentially understand. He had gone through a traumatic experience. He wants to date, wants to try and start a family. Okay. Maybe superhero-ing on the side can cause some difficulty with that. Then hang up the suit. Use your powers instead of your car instead of pew pew machines for a few months. But he’d come back to it. Or at least…In a crisis. They’d be there. That’s his decision. But to completely eliminate that? That’s drastic. It’s never something he had said he wanted to do. Should Cisco want to maintain close ties to Team Flash, which he claims he does “You’re not the problem. You guys are my family” (5x17), he’d be at a bigger risk to threats. In order to properly keep his safety, he’d have to separate from all of them and start somewhere fresh. He’d have to do what Ronnie wanted to do with Caitlin in season 1. To move away completely. It makes no sense! No sense at all! And @nintendo-sixtyvore has pointed out so correctly that every time Cisco has been in serious danger, specifically kidnapped, it had nothing to do with his powers. It had to do with his intelligence!!!!!!! This isn’t going to go away by removing his powers! Read their post here.
Besides, superhero-ing, and being part of Team Flash, although stressful, weird, sometimes crazy is something Cisco LOVES. It’s what holds him together.
He has said so many times, not only this season (“You’re my friend, my family (5x06)” and 5x05, 5x07 5x10) to Caitlin, and to everyone on Team Flash throughout the series.
In fact, after the particle accelerator explosion, having Barry be a coma patient, and later find out a meta-human Is what jump started Cisco’s excitement, his career, and his life again after such a terrible event. Cisco was the one on board with Barry from the very start.
We learn in 3x19, in the 2024 that was dissolved, that Cisco was the only one who remained in Team Flash. Barry was depressed. Iris was dead. Wally was paralyzed. HR skipped town. Julian became Killer Frost’s glorified zoo keeper. Caitlin as Cisco knew it was dead. He had lost his family, his purpose, his passion. He was depressed. He stopped taking care of his hair.

And he had lost his hands. He had lost his powers. “No hands. No Vibe,” he says brokenly.
I mean, first of all, that shouldn’t make all that much sense. His sensory vibes aren’t linked to his hands. He’s had vibes without touching anything, and he has stated that he sometimes gets them randomly (2x11,1x23) but apparently here they’re all gone the moment his hands are lost? Well. Okay. So lets take that for how he said it. No more hands means no more vibe blasts. It means no more breaches. No more Vibe. He can’t be the same hero, he can’t use his hands, he can’t make things the way he used to. He can’t feel any longer. He can’t thrust power from his hands, can’t open the world to the multiverse. But he can still have Vibes because he told Barry “I had a feeling” he’d be there. What does this mean? It means his Vibes are still there. He’s heartbroken over the other half of his powers being gone.
Killer Frost did that purposely. She could have killed him. She could have frosted his feet, his hair, his head…Anything else. But no. Cisco was the link to her humanity, and she wanted to squash it. She knew what would do that, what would officially make Cisco turn her away. Doing the unthinkable. Hurting him the most. Taking away what he loves. His powers.
So she did. And it worked. He understandably withdrew from her, grew sad, despondent, but even then even then he wanted to still work with Team Flash. Even when everything was up in flames, he was the last man standing.
Because he’s strong. He’s strong and he’s a hero. He loves to be a hero.
And Team Flash is his family. Its what he loves to do. Its where he belongs.
Team Flash being his family starts to disintegrate around 5x10. I have another theory that this is elevated by a continued resentment against Frost (explicitly Frost. Not Caitlin. Never Caitlin—which makes things complicated) that has never went away. You can find that here.
His vocabulary about “us” and “we” and “our” has changed to “me” and “my”. When he talks to Frost, he says: “Barry, Iris, Nora, they have a family. Even you and Caitlin have your weird little family. But what about my family?”
He automatically blames his powers as preventing him from having a family (which two episodes before he repetitively said with joy was Team Flash). Preventing him from being safe.
Cisco doesn’t know that. That assumption isn’t quite logical. Doesn’t it make more sense to discuss this with a potential partner. He didn’t make it about his powers there. He never said that “I hate opening breaches.” He never said “I find dimensional hopping repulsive.” He has said he was scared, that he was nervous, that he didn’t understand his powers in season 2 when they were developing, especially his vibes, because they were confusing. But the thing that was the most confusing to him were the visions he saw. The fact he could see other timelines, the fact he could see the future. It didn’t have to do with his hands.
5x22 was Cisco’s first showdown with Thawne since season 1. The Thawne who killed him. The Thawne he knew. But it wasn’t his very first encounter with a Thawne since then. This leads to something that sat badly with me. The conversation between Eobard and Cisco. Yes, Eobard is an ass, so he probably mentioned killing Cisco for shits and giggles because he knew he could, and because he wanted to pull it again with Nora, but…Using this to enhance Cisco’s reasoning for taking away his powers? No.
In fact, in 2x11, called, oh, I don’t remember…Oh yes. THE REVERSE-FLASH RETURNS. 2x11’s B plot was all about Cisco developing his powers, and confronting his fear. Giving himself agency.
At the end of the episode, they have Reverse Flash contained, and Cisco goes up to him and says his killer piece:
“My name is Cisco Ramon. I want you to know that I’m the one who figured out you were back. I helped stop you. Me.”
“And how’d you do that?”
“I have powers. And I helped track you down and I put you in here.”
“That’s quite the ability you have.”
“And here’s what’s so ironic about it. You gave me these powers. Have fun thinking about that while you rot away in this cell that you helped me build. Bye, Felicia.”
Cisco was so proud about that.
Soon after that he had a seizure (the result of Eobard being in their time, not because of anything Cisco did) but even after waking up, asking what was happening, Harry replied “We think you vibed one dimension too many.”
Cisco started to laugh. Not an afraid one or a nervous one. It was genuine, to which Joe joined along, as it was contagious and immediately accurately assessed that “Yeah, I think he’s going to be fine.”
In season 3, Cisco said he was afraid about using his vibrational powers against Caitlin because he was afraid of hurting her. But that was because he loves Caitlin. She’s his best friend. He didn’t want to kill her. And Cisco at the end of season 3 did exactly that. He was able to help Caitlin, fight Caitlin, and do it safely without hurting her. Without killing her. He grew. In season 3, Cynthia told him he could do a lot more with his powers. That she could show him. This was never continued on screen.
Season 4 reveals Cisco spent 6 months as the meta field leader of Team Flash and worked with Wally (which we only got 1 episode to see…Nice.) He did a good job, and was shown being great at it. He was in a really good place, despite the circumstances. He missed Barry. He missed Caitlin. But he had his powers. He had Star Labs. He had Cynthia. He had his purpose.
We know that Cisco was knocked out in the crossover in s4 oh so conveniently because his powers would’ve made the Crisis much less of a threat (…). By 4x16, Cisco purposely pointedly avoids shaking Matthew’s hand because
***“No offence. I like my powers.”***
At this point, Cisco’s powers were a part of who he was.
When Breacher offered Cisco a job at the collection agency, he refused because he wanted to stay. Stay on Earth One. He wanted to stay with Team Flash. He wanted to be Vibe. Before he got the job offer, he had to explain to Breacher that he wasn’t going to get his powers back because they had gone from old age. He explains why he lied because “I know how special our powers are.”
That’s the Cisco Ramon progression we’ve had. That’s where he was.
To have Cisco….Revert? To, what? To Pre 2x11??? It retracts all of this.
Another thing. Cynthia having the same powers as him? He liked that. It added a lot to his attraction. Now, how does that translate after the break-up is curious. It’s possible he’s grown an aversion to them following the split. “If I can’t even make it work with the girl who has the same powers as me, then what’s the point?” But see, even this logic is a relationship issue. Not anything about his ability, exactly. This arguments fits better with why he was so keen to jump ship with Kamilla. “She’s normal!!! No more inter-dimensional long distance!!” Cisco is muddling two separate issues here, pinning them on being a metahuman. Cisco and Cynthia’s relationship didn’t fail because of Cisco’s powers.
By season 5, he was drinking. He was trying to avoid pain. He was feeling down. Caitlin tried to help him. Ralph tried to help him.
Cue 5x03.
He was almost killed in 5x03, and had dark matter sliced into his palms which had remained for several weeks.
Now what other main characters had dark matter wounds? Orlin. Grace. Nora. Cisco. What did they all (except Nora, which I’ll get to in a sec)have in common? The moment they got these wounds, anti-meta sentiments emerged to varying degrees. This degree is in correlation with their wounds.
Remember Grace? The dark matter in her wound was in her head, it was so bad it warped her judgement, her mental state grew dark. Grace's was in her head, so it was the most intense. This was confirmed (By Caitlin’s Doctor-ing/Meta-science-ing) in 5x22 when the cure was in fact being neutralized by the dark matter inside young Grace and it was difficult.
The same thing happened with Cicada I. His dark matter wound in his chest changed his perception as well, going as far as to want to commit suicide once his war on metas was over.
Nora was stabbed in the back, paralyzing her and also taking away her speed. But, she has fast healing, and she eventually returned to normal (debatably. Remember she’s under the influence of negative role models, and later on the negative speed force later on).
Now, Cisco’s hand slices were the most superficial. He was also stabbed in the back but apparently the Flash writers forgot all about that and thought that a stab wound to the back that needed a brace would heal faster than two sliced palms, but alas, I digress.
His hands were sliced with dark matter, and the moment they were…. “The Death of Vibe.”
Cisco wasn’t in 5x04. But he was back in 5x05. And this is when he started to develop a RANDOM CONFUSING dislike towards his powers. Towards being a meta-human. He no longer wanted to be Vibe.
But here’s my thing. He had dark matter stuck in his hands. He’s had them in him for a long time. They were only taken out by 5x10. Caitlin even said, the reason why they took so long to heal was because of the shards stuck in his skin, infused with dark matter. Enough to let this idea about having a cure grow in his mind. Enough to start hating his HANDS. His HANDS were bleeding. HIS HANDS were the source of his sudden self-hatred. Enough to start making him dislike metas. Not to a “let’s kill them all off!” extent. But a “Let’s make a cure for this thing that I’m responsible for (Me: ?? Caitlin: ??) and I’m not sure I like even anymore!”
It’s almost like, this negative cloud took over. Interesting. Isn’t that arguably the same thing that has happened to Orlin? To Grace?
Everyone is complaining that CIsco would never do this. That this is out of character.
That’s right. This isn’t Cisco.
Cisco in season 5 had very little agency. Remember? Agency. That thing he had in season 2. In season 3? Season 4?
Most of the decisions he’s made were through pressure or suggestion by other people. Caitlin and Cisco never had another conversation about the cure following 5x10 with the exception of 5x15 (but that wasn’t about him. Only Shay) until 5x22. Like at the end of 5x10 she offers to help make the cure with him because he wants it. And doesn’t question his feelings again. But then in between those episodes, everyone else is pressuring him to do things he isn’t comfortable or putting negative thoughts in his head.
Sherloque in 5x21, enhancing his insecurities, trying to convince the viewers Cisco never liked being Vibe. Ralph in 5x12, trying to get him to go out and meet people when he didn’t want to. Barry in Elseworlds, insisting on him using his powers. Cisco is bleeding after his vibes on the Monitor and only Kara asks if he’s okay. He says, very strained “No! No I’m not!!!” Nobody checked up on him after this?!?!??!?!?!!?!? (Also He GOT HIT BY A CAR AND JUST WALKED IT OFF?? —Whoops wrong essay). Ralph in 5x14 trying to get Cisco to use his Book of Ralph to impress Kamilla on his date. And Iris and Caitlin pushing Cisco to try again after he said he felt by the 53rd failed first date he shouldn’t bother trying.
Until 5x22 when Caitlin Injects him because he asked her too.
Also, to quote @manjehaal: What’s with him wanting to work on it alone all the time?
Anyway. All this to say.
Let’s go back to 5x03. They called it the death of vibe. But Cisco ended up getting his powers back in that episode. He lived. He was dampened but he survived. BUt. This isn’t about the death of Vibe. This is about the death of Cisco. The death of the part of him that loved vibe. His passion. His excitement. Him.
There was no reason to do that. WHY DOES THIS SHOW LOVE TO KILL CISCO SO MANY TIMES. 5 TIMES THEY’VE KILLED HIM NOW, BECAUSE YOU BETTER BELIEVE I’M INCLUDING THIS.
And!!! And!!!! To make Cisco so badass in that final fight. It was hurtful. To see him so confident. So strong. To see him be Vibe. The Vibe we could have seen all along.
If he doesn’t want to be Vibe. He doesn’t have to be (Also, Cisco was going to lose his powers with age anyway, something we learned through Breacher). It’s painful. But to take a cure. To make it sound like Cisco thinks he’s diseased. There was nothing to warrant that. Nothing. They just destroyed something that so many people love. People love Cisco. They love who he is. They love him as Cisco and they love him as Vibe. They love him as as a latino hero. Watching them axe Vibe like that. Emphasizing its permanence. It was gutting.
And I’m pissed.
