Robert the Doll

A wealthy family moved into Key West, Florida in 1896-1897.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto were well known to be cruel and abusive to there servants.

There youngest child, Robert Eugene (Also called Gene and born in 1900) was always watched by a certain older Behamian servant girl.

This girl was treated the worst of all servants, because Gene adored her and thought of her as a best friend. Because of the abuse, the girl was planning revenge on the Otto family.

She stayed up late at night, secretly creating a special "present" for Gene for his 6th birthday.

The Otto family didn't know that this servant girl practiced voodoo.

And this is were Robert the doll was born.

The servant girl sewed the doll by hand and adding a porcelain head to it.

It was believed she has put a curse on the doll.

Filling the doll with evil relics and very tiny animal bones.

At the time, it was a very nice doll.

New, shiny, and sewn with a lot of craft work.

The next day, she gave Gene the doll with hugs and smiles, and Gene was very happy for the wonderful gift. He was after all, a playful little boy.

Gene decided to call the doll by his real name. Robert. And the name has stuck ever sense.

As time went on, the Otto's noticed something very strange and wrong with there son.

Gene was so fascinated with his new doll.

Gene would spend hours long in his room, all alone, talking to Robert.

What puzzled the Otto's even more, was that they could hear answers.

A voice that was completely different from there sons.

When Gene went to sleep in the evening, he would always awake the family with his screams of fright.

When Mr. and Mrs. Otto got to his room, they would find Gene's furniture overturned, and Gene in his bed, trembling in the center of it all. Robert, would be sitting upright at the end of Gene's bed, glaring at Gene's parents.

The little boy shouted:

"Robert did it! Robert did it! Robert did it!"

Then, things got worse.

As conflict became frequent in the house, or if Gene ever misbehaved, the little boy would always have the same person to blame.

"It was Robert," he sobbed. "Robert did it! Robert did it!"

When Gene's father died, Gene got the will of the house and he moved into his family home.

He got married and had a wife named Annette, otherwise known as Ann, and becoming a famous artist. Now just calling himself his middle name, Eugene Otto.

Eugene Otto always preferred to do his artwork alone, secluded, with Robert at his side.

Talking to it as if the doll could speak back.

Eugene's wife, Ann, never liked the doll from the first time Eugene introduced it to her.

It gave her the chills just to look at it, and she hated how obsessed her husband was with it. It frightened her in some way.

Eventually, even though it deeply upset Eugene, Ann told her husband she was going to give Robert a room of his very own, in the attic.

Which is were he stayed for a few years.

Those years later, Eugene spoke up. He repeated over and over again. Warning his wife "how angry Robert was."

Eugene even demanded that Robert have his own room. A proper room with a view. The guest room that looked out above the street. Ann disagreed greatly, but gave up the fight to please her husband.

Kids walking by Eugene's house to school always looked straight ahead.

For each day, they saw Robert leaning face down up against the guest room window on the 3rd floor. Glowering at them, mocking them, and dancing around!

Inside the house, Eugene and Ann's marriage was slowly deteriorating. Eugene was screaming and lashing out at his wife. Smashing things and running around the house like a mad man.

And then...all of a sudden he was fine, back himself again. And he always apologized with the same statement. "It was Robert, Ann. Robert did it!"

Ann had finally began to question her husbands sanity.

A plumber working on the house, who was allowed to take a rest in the upstairs guest room, ran screaming from the house.

He said he heard "the doll giggling and saw him scowling at him."

In the early 1970's, Eugene became ill. Instead of spending time with his wife and excepting her comfort, he locked himself all alone in the guest room.

With Robert by his side.

In 1972, Eugene died. In the guest room. Obviously, with Robert beside him.

Ann, relieved but heartbroken, quickly sold the house, and left. But not before leaving Robert behind stored buried under what seemed like a million boxes.

Several years later, another family bought the home. Shortly after moving in, the new family discovered Robert. Nearly squashed beneath the boxes. Which probably resulted in one of his broken off ears.

The couple of this new family took one look at Robert and knew that they didn't want something like this in there new lifestyle and home.

The 10 year old daughter of the family, surprisingly, liked the doll and added it to the collection of her china dolls and stuffed animals!

It didn't take long for the family to realize that was obviously something very wrong with the doll. Like, Eugene, the little girl would wake up in the middle of night screaming a crying. She said she saw Robert running and jumping up and down around her room. Then climbing on her bed and attacking her.

To his day, after more than 30 years, this woman now in her 40's still claims "that the doll WAS alive and wanted to kill her."

Shortly after this occurrence, the family got rid of it for good and brought it to the Key West Florida Martello Museum. Now, Robert is displayed in a glass case for all visitors to see his scary face.

Robert is still at the museum, in his little sailor suit, holding a little stuffed lion that he, appears to be attached too. Employees always remember to introduce new recruits of the museum to Robert. Some visitors laugh at the stupidity of being afraid of a stupid doll, but many change there mind....when they see Robert's angry look starring back at them.

Others try to take pictures of Robert in his case, and there cameras will not turn on. They replace the batteries thinking that was the solution, but the new batteries are not working either! When they leave the museum, there cameras turn on and the batteries fully charged.

One male visitor, who didn't believe the curse was true, videotaped his entire day at the museum. When they got to the area were Robert was, the sound on the camera turned off and couldn't be turned back on! He turned around to talk to a employee close by, and the sound on the camera was turned up all the way. Blaring in his ears.

Ann's ghost has been sighted in Eugene Otto's old house. Guarding the house in case of the return of Roberts evil spirit. A man who dose the tours of the house claims he has seen her. He says she frequently descends the staircase to the attic. Were Roberts evil form was stored for so long.

Other employees say that when they lock up for the night, they leave peppermint candy's in his case as if to bribe him to be good and not disturb anything during the night. They swear when the return in the morning the wrappers are left behind at Roberts feet.

The guest room where Eugene died is haunted too. A large bluish-green orb is seen floating throughout the room. The tour guide believes its Ann.

A psychic who visited the museum tells the employee's and manager that the energy of the spirit inhabiting Robert is slowly dying. Maybe she's right. Because Robert appearance is indeed becoming worn and old. As I said before, one of his ears is broken off, his face has chips and tiny holes from being moth bitten, the paint that was added to his lips and eyebrows has faded drastically, his hair is actually turning white!

Ah this spirit is very hurt & closed off rather than aggressive or dramatic this spirit could be a taurus who is very educated about different cultures and topics like a traveler ,its not a spirit you can call anytime it has a purpose wherever it goes and its time to be respected ,this spirit is also very emotional and practical so its very balanced in its nature it could present itself as different people if you wish for some reason .

Is it true that robert the doll used to provoke people on the streets?

Particially correct,but not always all the time ,its more like half truth ,i dont feel like he used to provoke people but he didn't liked certain people so he intended to get reaction out of them he could have done things like stared at them, invasion of privacy ,blocked their way ,they felt eerie looking at him .

I feel like he is really interested in peoples energy so more so he is just making its presence known or doing something with the doll like twisting the head , throwing things ,reading a book*speaking it means * like you will feel there's something.

Was this doll specifically designed to use for bad purposes?

No but it became, it does feel like something happened involving the original creator of the doll and since then it has been used as a tool of revenge .i feel like there's a specific method for this like you just cant command it and suddenly the doll is alive

*Note:things cant attach themselves to any kind of non -living things by itself*

i do feel like something went wrong with the process and it attracted the energy ,the intentions could be evil or wishing literal death through it ,its more like a voodoo doll it has been given with the intention to hurt someone who's actually very evil and cunning not to be there physicaly and intimidate the person but more as to make them feel the same way as the owner of the doll did .

Then i feel like through "the doll" one day it went wrong ,the spirit who was helping the owner of the doll was met with some sort of disappointment and it turned inwards since then it seeks shelter in that doll for some reason *why do i feel like it used to live somewhere like the trees and it was invoked with the purpose to destroy but then of course the purpose was stopped or destroyed mid way .

I feel like the owner of the doll got caught like her intentions were revealed like someone could have leaked the information or what it had against that person she or he intended to harm

I feel like maybe this owner was tortured and killed brutally ,i actually feel really sad channelling this because the spirit we are talking to doesn't mean any harm towards kind people but it seeks revenge with those who pressure people in the name of tradition ,like those who are controlling and trap people in a mental cage.

I'm getting something about the spirit who handles the doll i feel like this spirit was very well known and artistic it could be a performer but then something was snatched away from this spirit for eg- the land it performed or anything else its very close to this spirit so i wont dig in much .

This spirit decided to help because first it was invoked with the purpose of it and second i feel like it related to that owner who invoked this kind of energy,i feel like the dream of both the people was snatched,it has something to do with passion or something they really wanted being taken away.

Cause it liked him,it happened over time ,it liked his aura his adventures nature,this spirit is very possessive of the boy it could even visit the boy or used to take care of the boy it could involve maybe watching over him while he's playing or goffing around together or reading together yeah its very much this spirit adores and Remember i do feel like this spirit could have been abused by the adults in his life maybe sexually even and it lived a very bittersweet life where it wanted to do so much for others but couldn't like their life was shorten due to some reason and through that boy his inner chid healed .

Yes ,but you cant sense it unless the energy feels too specific *like during the times of heavy moon cycles * you can feel it .

I feel like the entity will stop acting or will leave this doll ,the doll will be put aside after some good years they can even throw this doll or sell it to someone who's rich and interested in this doll ,it feels like the person will feel connected to it thats why .

Will the doll still be cursed?

No things will stop but its history will remain,the doll will remain popular.

I saw a meme the other day that talked about "If your Haunted Doll is destroying your property, she's probably just bored! Please make sure you have a proper habitat for your haunted doll, and proper love and Enrichment!" in the sweetest, kindest way I've seen in a long while. It made me think of you, and I'm mad I didn't save it to send it. <3

In that vein, is there a Doll you've seen that's been claimed to be "Haunted", that you think just needs proper enrichment and care?

Here is my haunted doll hot take: I don't think Robert is evil.

I do think he's haunted! That seems pretty widely agreed-upon. But his last private owner, Myrtle Reuter, kept him with her for twenty years even knowing about his haunting. Through two moves, no less. She could have ditched him at any time, but she didn't; she took him to her new home with her. That doesn't scream "malevolent entity" to me, personally.

And all the stories about Robert doing actively harmful things- not pranks or simply moving around -seem rather unsubstantiated. Granted, that kind of thing would be hard to substantiate at all, but like. Listicles repeat the idea that Gene Otto was "obsessed" with the doll and that the obsession destroyed his marriage, or even that Robert killed his wife. And none of that seems supported by less...emotional biographies of the man.

As for all the people allegedly hurt by him for disrespect. Well. You do something you've been told not to, and it's going to throw you off-kilter. You might make mistakes you otherwise wouldn't, and some of those mistakes are bound to be dangerous for at least a few of the many people in this situation. Simply by law of averages. (It's kind of ingenious, if you think about it and assume Robert really doesn't take kindly to being, say, photographed without permission. He wouldn't have to actually do anything at all- people would psych themselves out fretting about the Haunted Doll Curse and inadventently create said curse all on their own.)

To be clear, I absolutely believe that spirits CAN be malevolent, and harm people. It's not a question of doubting the story's possibility, or even that the spirit possessing the doll is capable of such things. It may well be!

It's just that, in terms of this specific case, the unembroidered facts and testimony from people not Lost In The Urban Legend Sauce don't seem to match up to the popular conception of the doll in question.

You are coming home with me ," You said as you smiled at him.

You're welcome. I had fun being your caretaker Robert but I'm happy that you will be with your old owner ," Lizzie said with a smile before she walks away.

Woah. How did you get Robert ," Cole asked as he steps away from you.

He's coming home with us ," You said with a smile.

What. He can't leave the museum," Cole told you.

KJ glanced at you before he look at Robert.

Cole. Stop. Robert looks like he doesn't like you already. You don't want to get on his bad side bc it's not pretty ," KJ said as he slapped him behind the head.

Serious. What is he going to do ," Cole chuckled.

A lot of stuff. There are a lot of letters to Robert from people that stuff had happened to them after visiting him bc they were rude to him. Like divorces, break up and missing your flight. So if I was you. I would be nice to him bc I can tell that Robert makes y/n happy bc she is finally happy again. So stop do stupid stuff ," KJ said as he shakes his head at his friend.

I used to be his owner and caretaker in the past until my parents gave him up without me knowing. But I have him again ," You said with a smile.

I'm glad that you are happy again. Ik about Robert and I respect him. Ik all about stuff Robert can do when people are rude to him," KJ said as he smiled at you .

Aw thank you. I respect him and he knows that," You said with a smile.

The next day .

What happen to you ," KJ asked ?

My alarm didn't go off. I'm cover in my coffee. My car got a flat tire and it was fine. This day is already bad for me ," Cole said as he shakes his head.

That's what you get for being rude to Robert," KJ said with a grin.

Cole look at him.

That Doll didn't do this ,"Cole said as he look at him.

Sure," KJ grinned.

What happen to him ," You asked with a grin.

His alarm didn't go off this morning. He is covered in his coffee and his car got a flat tire. This happen bc he was rude to Robert yesterday ," KJ said with a grin.

Oh. That's what you get ," You said with a sly smirk.

Cole look at you .

That doll didn't do this ," Cole glared at you .

Sure. You better tell Robert that you are sorry or stuff will keep on getting worse," You said with a grin.

I'm not telling a doll that's I'm sorry," Cole said.

Robert's black eyes look at you as his face changes into a little grin.

I'm going to take that as yes then ," You smiled.

I have film soon but I have a gift for you," You said with a smile.

Robert's black eyes look at you as a small smile came upon his face.

It's your favorite candy. Peppermints ," You said with a smile as you lay the bag of candy beside him.

I have to film now. I will be back soon," You said with a smile.

What's wrong now," You asked.

Cole's phone full charged and now it's dead. His jacket for the show is too small. He had ran into a pole and now bleeding ," KJ said.

Robert ," You said with a grin.

Yep," KJ said with a sly grin.

It's his own fault," You grinned as you walk away.

Stupid doll ," Cole mumbled as he walks into your trailer.

This is your fault," Cole mumbled as he picked up Robert without his permission and throws him in the trash.
