Oh lord.. the Rian changes we all spoke of… are starting already… he just announced he is sober now… I think it is great for him… but it makes you wonder if this is the Sav prophecy coming true?
Idk what sav prophecy you’re referring to unless it’s the quirky Christian girl one.

Spencer’s love life was a trainwreck. Everyone knew that after the Maeve debacle, dating wasn’t something that he was concerned with. He saw the horrible things that could happen to significant others of the BAU members. Haley dying, Jack being targeted, and Savannah being shot were things he’d seen first hand and he wasn’t eager to have a loved one go through any of it. He’d never forgive himself.
JJ was always special, in his eyes. Even whenever they were both young on the field together, he always pined after her. She was beautiful, funny, and she didn’t always look so bothered to talk to him. Of course, their failed attempt at a date to the Redskins game was just an indication that he should admire from afar. Besides, he’d like to have her in his life regardless.
He maintained a healthy friendship with JJ over all fourteen years that he worked with the BAU, the woman being by his side even whenever he didn’t deserve it. It was something he wouldn’t trade for the world. He appreciated her, loving her so much that his heart swelled every time she came near him. He buried all those feelings deep in his heart, keeping quiet on the subject. It wasn’t the healthiest way to handle unspoken feelings but it was the easiest. Work would be awkward, plus she didn’t seem romantically interested. Best not to push.
Whenever you joined the BAU, you were blissfully unaware of Spencer’s feelings toward JJ, instead meeting a version of him that was so dedicated to bottling up those feelings. He was a bit standoffish with you at first, which you didn’t take personally. You’d heard of the endless trauma he’d been through and you felt like you had to work overtime to gain his trust. The problem was, you did damn near everything and it was like it wasn’t working.
You learned how he liked his coffee and brought him a cup every morning, you asked for facts about zany topics, you even mentioned Doctor Who in an effort to reach out to him. It was like he didn’t even want to look in your direction.
You managed to chip away at him over the next few months, getting him to laugh in certain circumstances or even having him greet you in the mornings. It was something that you had to work for but it was all worth it in the end whenever he’d gotten fully comfortable with you. He learned that he enjoyed talking to you, having you around.
The both of you had grown quite close to the point where every Friday that you weren’t on a case was spent having a movie night. He’d even taught you how to sew a scarf after too much trial and error. All the time you spent together was causing you to fall deeper in love with the lovable genius with each interaction. Every silly complaint about a show not being true to science, his rambles on topics that interested him, even when you two would get into arguments.
It was no surprise that you’d fallen so fast. You wore your heart on your sleeve, yearning for a deep connection that nobody else could take away. Spencer was your person, you could feel it. There were daydreams of having a nice home with a big backyard for your kids, Spencer teaching them magic tricks or helping them excel in their academics.
It was a Saturday night after a successful case that the team went out drinking together to celebrate. You may have let Penelope and Emily influence you into drinking your body weight in whatever liquor was put in front of you. Spencer hardly drank, however he allowed himself to have a few drinks, his tolerance being so low that he could feel a buzz after just one.
You were too far gone to remember the events of the night but you did know that you and Spencer left together. The night was spent with drunken sex and whatever else you two got up to within the span of seven hours. You both woke up the next morning and it was still okay. There was no sneaking out when someone was sleeping, no forcing them out. You two actually spent a good portion of the morning together. The only issue? You got more attached. It was like you associated the sex with mutual feelings, the dream of actually finding someone to settle with.
You’d gotten so caught up with the fantasy that you just had to tell the girls at work during one of your morning gossip sessions.
“I don’t know, I just feel like this could be the start of something great. I really do like him, he means the world to me. I just wish that I could say it.” You admitted, leaning against Penelope’s desk while sipping from your coffee mug.
“Well, I say just go for it! Our genius needs to settle down.” Penelope encouraged, her eyes widening with excitement. “You two can have babies! I don’t think we could ever have enough BAU babies.” She gushed.
JJ was laughing softly from her spot in the room at her friend’s excitement. “I mean, the worst he could really do is say no. No harm in trying to ask, right?” The blonde let her shoulders bounce. In a way, she could feel a pang of jealousy in her chest. You and Spencer? That didn’t seem right at all.
“He won’t say no! I am convinced he loves you! I mean, you always brighten his day.” Penelope was piling on encouragement, pushing you to take the bull by the horns and just get yourself out there, to put your feelings first.”Plus, you can invite him to Rossi’s wedding!”
It was safe to say that it was working. You felt a wave of confidence rush over you, taking it with stride. JJ had a point, Spencer wouldn’t be rude about turning you down. The pain would still be there in the event he did but at least he wouldn’t be cruel, right?
“I’m gonna go talk to him about it. It’s a paperwork day, so it’ll be quiet.” Plus, she could just delve into files that needed to be filed away if he did let her down gently. It was the perfect plan!
You were planning on talking to him later in the afternoon, just enough time to give yourself a pep talk. However, Emily and Penelope killed that idea with a snap of a finger as a case had come up. It came with the territory of your job – make plans and have them destroyed by some loser who decided to massacre multiple people for the fun of it.
***
The case had taken a turn for the worse whenever JJ and Spencer were hot on the unsub’s trail, being locked inside a bank with no way to contact the outside world. The only thing anyone had was shitty footage from the security camera inside with no audio to accompany it. All you could do was assume what was happening as you stared at the screen, Emily beside you as she was talking to Penelope about getting anything if they could.
Their body language said it all though, the way that JJ seemed tense and the way Spencer had a look of… Relief? You didn’t know what was happening in the slightest but it was like you could feel your stomach churn, your heart slowly cracking.
You didn’t want to assume it was anything too crazy, you didn’t need to worry. You were being silly. Once there were shots inside, everyone was rushing to the back door of the building to get inside. You were frozen in place, eyes focused on the room now filled with agents and cops.
The sound of everyone talking was muffled, your mind somewhere else as you were slowly turning to the screen before approaching the two agents when they were coming out of the building. “Are you two okay?!” She asked quickly, a shaky edge to her voice as she was bringing a hand to her face. “This job stresses me out,”
There was lighthearted, yet awkward laughter as you were eventually heading back to the SUVs.
There was a tension hanging in the air any time that Spencer and JJ were together, the two barely sharing glances as the rest of the team were rejoicing and ending the case and preventing losing innocent people as well as potentially losing two of their best agents.
There was something wrong but you weren’t going to say anything.
Clearly something personal happened in the moment they were forced to play along with whatever the unsub wanted from them. You were curious but you didn’t want to bring it up, maybe out of fear of hearing something that you don't wanna hear.
You didn’t ask Spencer to be your date to Dave’s wedding, instead going on your own.
The whole environment there made you sad. You were thrilled for Dave and Krystall but it was an atmosphere oozing with love while you were alone, the man you wanted to ask being weird and not speaking to you the way he usually did. There was a lot you wondered about.
Did you do something wrong? Was he angry at you? More questions echoed in your mind, feeling defeated on how such a good relationship has fizzled out to nothing.
You were brought out of your thoughts whenever Penelope was passing out whatever concoction of drink she came up with. “Here you go, sour puss.” The blonde spoke while placing the mixed drink in front of you at the bar, you offering a small smile in response.
“It’s a good day, don’t be sad in the corner all night.” Luke added soon after while you were waving it off. He didn’t know the extent of why you felt the way you did. He just knew that you had been in a funk for days, not being your usual self.
“I’m not sad. I’m just.. I’m not really in the mood.” It was honest, however you knew that you had to show up for Dave, he was family. You would’ve done the same for anyone else in the team for whatever event.
In the midst of your denial, your gaze had fallen on Spencer and JJ, the two talking together at a table farther from the rest of you. It could’ve been some deep, poorly concealed anger that had you putting the cup down and walking over to the two who seemed to be having a great time together. You were falling apart and it was like he wasn’t even paying attention. It stung.
“Spencer! JJ!” You announced your presence with a smile, your hands clasping together. “I didn’t get to come talk to you guys earlier. I wanted to say hi.” You began. “Also, why are you two isolated from the team?! Come on!”
What felt like a knife to your chest was the way Spencer looked at you with a lack of interest, almost as if your presence was bothersome. “Oh, we were just talking. We are fine, we will catch up later.” The male answered, hoping the answer was good enough to be left alone again.
That was the moment you broke.
“What the hell have I done to you? You’ve been dodging my calls and texts for days and you barely talk to me anymore. What is your deal?” In an attempt to not ruin the beautiful ceremony, you were keeping a calm demeanor. Even if you could feel the cracks in the facade.
“What? Nothing! You’re acting like a child. I’m just having a conversation.” Spencer frowned, his attention finally on you for the first time in days. “You act like we talk every minute of the day.”
“Because we normally do! Come on, Spencer. Just talk to me.” You were begging for a minute of his time, an explanation. For days you’d questioned every interaction and every word said. You thought your relationship was stronger than that.
“I am talking to you. I don’t know what else I’m supposed to say.”
JJ looked visibly uncomfortable with the whole interaction, so that’s whenever you were turning your attention to her. “And you, I’ve been trying to talk to you for days and you don’t give me the time of day. What is happening? Do you both have a problem with me?”
“Look-”
“No! She has a point, Spencer. I’ll be honest with her.” JJ finally found her voice, although the nervousness was gone now, instead just taking the situation for what it is. “I’m sorry,” The words made your knees weak.
You knew what was coming.
“The other day, the key to us getting out of there and preventing any injuries, I played truth or dare. Which, I know what you’re thinking but it wasn’t a childish game in the slightest.” She said slowly while you watched her in disbelief.
“Anyway, I was told to give a secret that I’d never tell anyone else. Something I’d take to the grave and-”
“You told Spencer that you loved him.” You finished, throat tight as you were restraining the urge to either sob or scream at the blonde. “It’s just funny that this all came out after I told you what I wanted to do. You never showed him the time of day before.”
“I don’t think you pay enough attention. Spencer has always been my best friend and we spend time together alone quite frequently. Just because you had sex one time doesn’t mean that you both were in an unspoken relationship.” JJ responded, having the audacity to act as if she didn’t break girl code to the highest degree.
There were a few moments of silence, every intrusive thought bouncing through your mind. Your gaze was briefly turning to David and Krystall, seeing the two happily talking with guests before you were tuning your head to the pair in front of you.
You reached over for the glass of water that one of them ended up putting down, hand clutching the glass before you made the wise decision of throwing water in their direction, the glass emptying on the both of them before the same glass was being placed down on the table.
Without a word, you turned on your heels so you could walk away from the two. The reception was over for you, no feeling of celebration. You leaving with tears brimming your eyes caught the attention of the small group of agents, the group now turning their heads briefly to look at Spencer and JJ.
“Oh no..” Penelope frowned, the normally bubbly blonde turning to Tara, Luke and Matt.
“Something tells me that JJ and Spencer are talking..”

I literally love your work you’re so talented I can reread it for days and never get bored. Can you write some fluff where maybe reader and Travis have been super busy and they grow a little distant and fight about it and then Travis realizes he messed up when one of his kids asks if he’s moving out or something and he makes it up to reader
All Of Me

"Laylah is finally asleep." Travis whispered as he slipped through the open crack of your bedroom door, quietly closing it behind him. He threw himself down on his side of the bed, closing his eyes as he let out a sigh of pure exhaustion.
"Thanks." You gave him a small smile, continuing your nighttime routine from your side of the bed. You felt Travis' fingers graze down the path of your spine, making you tense up. You rolled your shoulders back, still feeling a tinge of annoyance from earlier tonight. You had gotten into it with Travis over some careless scheduling conflicts on his part, and while you agreed to drop it so you weren't fighting in front of the kids, you'd be lying if you said you weren't still upset.
Travis retracted his arm at your rejection. "I thought we were okay." He hated fighting with you, and would do anything to avoid it. It made him sick to think you were upset, especially at his hand. You shut your nightstand drawer harder than you intended before turning off the light. "If by okay, you mean we're not fighting with each other. Then yes, we're okay, but I'm still pissed with you, Travis." You shifted to lay down in bed, turning your back to him.
"Baby, I said I was sorry. I wasn't thinking when I said yes to the appearance. I would have never agreed to it if I knew it was the same day as Savannah's party." Travis blinked into the darkness, resisting the urge to reach out to you again. He knew it would only set you off.
"Don't you get tired of apologizing? I know you didn't do it on purpose, but it feels like sometimes we're an afterthought to you." You bundled the comforter in your fist, feeling yourself grow angry all over again. The fight was rearing its ugly head again whether you wanted it to or not.
"That's not fair." Travis shot out, his voice louder than he anticipated, emotion building in his chest. "I'm always thinking about you and the kids. But I'm not gonna pretend like the work I do isn't important. Sometimes it has to come first. I have fans, people who count on me." He groaned, realizing that was not what he wanted to say, but it was too late to take it back. The damage was done.
"If you wanna go, Travis, go. No one is stopping you, but you can explain to your daughter while you won't be at her birthday party. I'm done covering for you." All of the consoling you had to do, tears streaming down your kids faces when Travis couldn't make it to a little league game or a school performance was wearing on you too. You listened briefly to make sure that none of the kids had woken due to your arguing. Realizing the house was still calm, you allowed yourself to let out a deep breath. "I'm done talking about this."
****
The next morning, Travis dropped the kids off at school before heading to practice for the day. The girls were in the back, singing their favorite Disney songs, and usually Alex would vocalize his objections, begging Travis to change to another song, but today, he was noticeably quiet, leaning his head against the window. Travis noticed, but didn't want to push the issue. Maybe Alex was just more tired than usual this morning.
"Daddy?" Savannah called out to Travis. "Yes, baby?" He glanced at her through the rear view mirror. "For my party on Saturday, can I have a strawberry cake?" She eagerly clasped her hands together. "Wait, is it your birthday on Saturday? I had no idea!" Travis chuckled, messing with her. "Daddy! I'm turning 5!" She held up five fingers. "Well then, we need to get you a strawberry cake to celebrate." Both Savannah and Laylah cheered. Travis looked at Alex, who was still tight lipped, his gaze focused on the scenery out the window.
"Alex, what's going on, bud?" Travis had dropped the girls off at preschool, leaving him alone with his eldest in the car while he headed to the elementary school.
"Nothing", Alex grumbled out, pulling at his sweatshirt. "Did something happen at school? You know you can tell me." Alex shook his head no, not offering Travis anything else to go on. "Are you excited for your game tomorrow? Mama says you've been hitting well. Can't wait to see you play."
"Are you coming to my games still?" Alex's face perked up, but riddled with anxiety instead of happiness. "Of course, Bubba. Why wouldn't I?" Alex shifted in his seat uncomfortably, flexing his fingers. It was something he did when he was nervous, a trait he had gotten from Travis. "What's going on, Bub?"
"I heard you and mama fighting last night, and she said that you could go if you wanted to. Are you moving out? I don't want you to leave dad." Alex had a very basic understanding of divorce, one of his friends' parents were going through a nasty separation, and Travis could only imagine what was going through his head after hearing the two of you fighting. He found a spot to pull over on the side of the road.
"Alex, bud", Travis shifted in his seat to look back at his son. Alex's cheeks were stained with tears, his sweatshirt sleeve damp. "Your mama and I argued about something silly that Dad did, okay? But I would never leave you or your sisters or your mama. I love you all too much. You have nothing to worry about, and I'm sorry if we scared you." Travis had been so busy trying to defend himself, that he didn't even realize all of this could have been avoided if he had just put his family first. He knew he owed you an apology, and needed to make this up to you. "I just need to figure out a way to get your mom to forgive me."
"Dad, maybe you can get her some flowers. She always likes when we get her flowers for Mama's Day." Alex suggested, making Travis chuckle. "I don't think flowers will be enough this time, Bubba."
****
After practice, Travis found you in your office. You were confirming some last minute details for Savannah's party, stress weighing your shoulders down. You were finding it difficult to focus on anything but your fight with your husband, guilt for trying to push him out making your stomach turn.
"Hey", you turned to see Travis leaning in the doorway, his hair still wet from his shower. You let out a breath you didn't realize you'd been holding in. Even when you were fighting with Travis, he was still your calm and peace. It didn't feel right not touching and holding him. You were so quick to your feet, throwing your arms around Travis' neck, it startled him, making him stumble back. He held you impossibly close, burying his face in the crook of your neck. "I hate fighting with you", Travis mumbled against your skin.
You pulled away, cupping his face in your hands. "I'm sorry, I never should have pushed you. I know you wouldn't miss anything on purpose. Its just, sometimes its really hard doing this without you."
"C'mere." Travis led you back to your chair, pulling another over to you so you were sitting close. He grabbed at your hands, gently massaging at your fingers. "I'm so sorry, baby. I never should have made you second guess how important you were to me. You and the kids, they come before anything else. Every time."
You gave him a soft smile. "I never should have said that, T. I don't think that at all. I can't imagine the pressure on you to be present here and in football. It can't be easy. I need- no I want to be more understanding of how much you have to do."
"About that. I canceled all of my appearances. I told my team that if its not absolutely necessary, I don't want to commit to anything. At least until you feel supported again, however long that is." Travis pulled you into his lap, pressing a kiss to your shoulder.
"I don't want you to do that Travis. That's not fair to you or your career." You appreciated the gesture, but it seemed so extreme, especially after a silly fight.
"You deserve all of me, baby. Not half, or only sometimes. I never want to make you feel like you have to compromise on my attention." Travis felt no remorse at taking a step back from his commitments. It felt like the right thing to do. You opened your mouth to object, but Travis distracted you with a kiss, gentle as your lips met.
"Did you get the strawberry cake for Nannah?" Travis questioned, barely broken away from the kiss. "Strawberry? What strawberry cake?" Travis backed away, his eyes wide. You enjoyed his panic for a second before giggling. "Just kidding. Everything is taken care of." You lifted off of his lap, pulling him to his feet.
"Good." He gave you a few more pecks, a smile in his tone." You almost gave me a heart attack. I can't let my little girl down on her birthday."

◜Dad! Jason Headcanons ◞
Tumblr media
          ┊ ᝰ﹕Characters : dad!jason todd x latino vigilant! Reader
┊ ᝰ﹕Summary: recently I saw a post from @super-marvel-dc here on Tumblr where she said her headcanons of Jason being a father of a big family, and it inspired me a lot! So I decided to share some of the crazy things that had been on my mind for a while about this. If you like this maybe it could become a series
(Link to the initial post by @super-marvel-dc, )
┊ ᝰ﹕Theme : nothing but fluffy and google translate english
Tumblr media
- You and Jason had already been married for about two years, things were stable and happy for both of you, taking into account your busy vigilante lives.
- The first child to be adopted was Naomi, who was found when she was just 3 years old abandoned in the alley of crime, and since then you and Jason have had her as your daughter
- Shortly afterwards, things got complicated with a completely unplanned and surprising pregnancy, after all, after the incident, Jason thought he could not even have biological children, and nine months later you had twins Holden and Skyler
- Shortly after two years, a little boy named Austin had been rescued by the Gotham police after a major attack caused by the Black Mask, having arrested the culprit Jason felt the responsibility of taking the boy in
-And then came the twins Savannah and Aspen, who were adopted after a Wayne gala in support of Gotham Orphanage, the big surprise for everyone was Jason and Y/n adopted two of the children instead of Bruce
- After that came Hazel, a little girl who had been purposely abandoned at the mall by her mother.
- and then we had river, a boy from a troubled family who lived in the alley of crime, and with him little darcy who was protected by river while her parents were too busy spending all their money on drugs
- And that was how the simple routine maintained by two people over five years together, in less than three years multiplied, becoming a family of eleven people
- At first things were chaotic but over time a routine was established, Fridays were reserved for friends, Saturdays for meetings and Sundays for family.
- Jason despite initially being terrified of fatherhood and literally shaking with fear, things changed in a short time, this man read every book on pregnancy, fatherhood and positive parenting he could find, he watched vlogs and tips on YouTube and Instagram from mothers and fathers on how to care for and educate their children, and I say with conviction that he has become an incredible father and making it his personal mantra to become the father he wishes he had had
- because you have children of different ethnicities, you reserved one day a week with us. traditional cuisine dinner, holidays with foods typical of each place, you made sure your children knew about their respective cultures and origins
- As a Latina by blood and raised in a Latin neighborhood in Gotham, you made sure your children learned your native language (Portuguese or Spanish, you choose lol), in addition to obviously the house being always filled with cultural music and food
- Speaking of home, in a short time you had to exchange your beautiful industrial loft in the center of Gotham for a large farm-style house that was about 40 minutes from Gotham, after all, you refused to raise your children in the chaos that was that city. by the way, don't tell bruce but you and jason had to accept many jobs in addition to surveillance and batman's rules to be able to pay for everything, but for the comfort of your children it was worth it
- Since the family grew abruptly, visits to the mansion became less frequent, but you and the children still visited at least once a month, especially when you needed a free babysitter. It is worth mentioning that for a long time they will be the butt of jokes on family holidays due to the large number of children
- You keep the life of vigilantes away from the children's reality, they don't even know about their second identities because you feel better knowing that you are keeping them away from this world, despite this you both agree that you will bring the truth to light when they are old enough
- Despite not wanting anyone anywhere near a gun or robin uniform, they all know self-defense and some type of fight or sport.
- An additional thing is that Jason sees himself on the river a lot, especially when he was younger, and that's why he always tries to be a present for him.
-Meanwhile Austin is the little version of Dick which makes Jason wish for death many times while you just laugh at the whole situation finding it hilarious, and all of this gets worse after I give Austin gymnastics lessons which results in Jason taking his son away from him. you from the roof of the house after ending up stuck in one of the tiles.

Is This Home?
Request from anon: Can you do Derek ! Daughter reader (15) she’s still getting used to savannah being there with them, and maybe she gets upset that they don’t hang out as much because of her, and reader has a breakdown and leaves the house in the middle of the night and she gets lost and hides in an abandoned house until someone finds her (maybe a neighbor of Derek’s) and they call Derek to come get reader and she’s just like no I don’t wanna talk to him and he  sits down and is like listen I know you don’t like me being with someone since your mom and I understand that but you will always be my baby, and they go home that night and she sleeps in the middle of them
Derek Morgan x daughter!reader
Summary: Ever since Savannah moved in with you and your dad, you feel like you’ve been losing him. The night he forgets about your special father-daughter time you flee to a place that feels more homey than your actual home.
A/N: I changed it up the abandoned house part just a little bit because I thought this would make it more meaningful, but overall I tried to stick as close to the request as possible. I hope you like it!
CW: I had fun with swear words in this one (I swore a lot when I was 15. Tbh I still do.), reader's mother is dead, kinda angsty with a fluffy ending. Reader loves her Aunt Penny.
---
“Alright, (Y/N). You think you can hold down the fort tonight?” Your dad, Derek, asked playfulling, putting a hand on your shoulder before leaning over the couch to look at you.
You put down your phone and made a face. “It’s Sunday night,” you said.
“Yes,” he said, drawing out the Y sound like he always did when you said something obvious. “Which means that I trust you’ll be in bed by the time Savannah and I get home from our night out.”
“But-” you started, but it didn’t matter; your dad was already headed upstairs to get ready for his date. The only way he would hear you now was by yelling to remind him that you two ALWAYS did movie night on Sunday. Your mom had died when you were ten and since then your dad had made it a point to spend as much of his free time with you as possible. Unless he was away on a case, movie nights were never interrupted. For five years that was how it had been.
And then Savannah came along.
She wasn’t a bad person. She wasn’t mean. But she wasn’t your mom and sometimes it felt like she was taking your dad away from you. The first time it happened, her and Derek had just started dating. You were so happy that your dad was happy you failed to notice that the same day he took her to the park was the day he was supposed to take you to the firing range. The second time it happened you took the metro from school straight to Quantico to show him that you’d gotten straight A’s on your report card, only to find that he had left work on time for once to take Savannah to see a play (at least your Uncle Spencer was impressed and Aunt Penny took you to get ice cream on the drive home). The third time it happened was the day Savannah moved in with the two of you. The Saturday that was supposed to be spent practicing for your judo certification was instead spent lifting and moving boxes.
Since then it had all gone downhill so fast. Dinners that were usually spent on the couch with just you and your dad shooting the shit about sports turned into dinners at the table making small talk about what everyone’s day was like. The messages he sent to you every night when he was away on a case came to your phone half the time and Savannah’s the other half. Even restoring houses with your dad wasn’t the same anymore. You loved to sit around the table with him and pick out colors for the walls from the swatches he brought home, but of course he had to show the options to Savannah first. She always seemed to throw out the fun colors in favor of more “tasteful” ones before you could give your opinion.
And now your dad was ditching you on movie night to take her out to dinner.
If she was a serial killer you wouldn’t have minded- you were used to your dad having to miss movie night to catch criminals- but he was abandoning you for his girlfriend. His girlfriend. You would much rather have been ditched because Hannibal Lecter was on the loose running wild through some town in the middle of bumfuck nowhere than be left alone so your father could go out to dinner with some woman you hadn’t known for all that long. SSA Derek Morgan would have a good excuse for missing movie night then, but he wasn’t a Supervisory Special Agent right now- he was your dad… and he forgot about you.
You went up to your room, not bothering to turn off the TV which already showed which movie you had picked for that night. Sitting on your bed, you picked up the picture of your mom that sat on your nightstand. You weren’t sure if you were listening for an answer from her spirit, or if you were just lost in the moment of missing her, but it felt like you looked at her picture for hours.
There was a knock on your door. You put the picture of your mom down before calling, “Come in!”
Derek was dressed up a bit more than normal- he traded his typical leather jacket for a blazer and his jeans for casual slacks. “So?” He spun in a circle. “How do I look?”
“Like you asked Uncle Dave for fashion advice,” you told him- if there was one thing you were in the Morgan household, it was honest.
“Okay, ouch.” Your dad brought his hand to his chest. “Seriously?”
“Seriously,” you said. “The slacks make you look old. Wear black jeans instead.”
Derek smiled. “Okay, well I’m gonna be late since I have to change again. I’ll see you later.”
“Bye, dad. I-”
The door shut.
“Love you,” you whispered to yourself. You picked up the picture of your mom again, gazing into her fearless eyes. Oh, mom, you thought to yourself, or maybe you were praying to her. You really didn’t know which one. What am I going to do?
---
You rolled over and looked at the clock- unable to sleep. It was nearly midnight and you dad still wasn’t back yet. How long was dinner supposed to take? How had your dad forgotten about movie night? How had your dad forgotten to tell you he loved you? The questions spiraled in your head over and over again, anxiety building in your gut until you burst into tears.
You couldn’t do it. You couldn’t be in your room, or the house, or anywhere that made you think about how your dad had forgotten about you. You were still in your clothes from the day, having been too upset to change into pajamas. Silently crying you ran down the stairs and out of the house- needing to get as far away from it as possible.
The logical part of your brain knew that this was the best possible way to get kidnapped- a young girl running down the street alone in the dark was the start to just about every horror movie ever. But the logical part of your brain wasn’t working. All you knew was that you had to run.
You were lost in your thoughts and high from the adrenaline that you lost track of where your legs had taken you. Your vision adjusted to the dark and you looked around. You were somewhere you had been before, but you weren’t sure exactly where. If it was light outside you might be able to pinpoint a landmark or a trail and find your way back, but the night was dense. All there was to do was walk.
Your head was starting to ache from crying and your legs were beginning to feel weary. The taste of copper filled your mouth from running in the coolness of the night. You needed a place to stay but you didn’t want to go home. In the distance you spotted street lights- they were dim but it was better than nothing. Maybe from there you could find a metro stop to take you closer to your Aunt Penny’s- surely she would let you stay with her for the night.
The closer you got to the lights the more you recognized your surroundings. The neighborhood was older, but still in a safe location. The houses were charming on the outside, with wrap-around porches and large grassy yards. You knew the place because Derek had bought a house here years ago, when it was just the two of you. It had always been part of his dream to restore a house like it so he insisted that he would wait for the perfect time to start the project.
Of course there was no such thing as perfect timing. Maybe that’s why he hadn’t touched the house in years. Most of his other restorations were bought and sold within months, but this one just sat. The only evidence that he owned the place at all was that he mowed the lawn every two weeks.
You walked up to the front door and pulled a bobby pin from your pocket, picking the old lock with ease and making your way inside. The house was bare of any furniture or decorations. Paint was flaking off the walls and old plastic covered the hardwood floors. You walked around the house, imagining what it would be like to see the place restored in all its glory- with new crown molding and fresh hardware on the doors. You imagined it with a fresh coat of paint and pictures on the walls.
But at the moment it looked abandoned, withered, and unloved- just like how you felt.
---
It was 1 AM when Derek got a call from an unknown number. The first time he let it go to voicemail, but when the same number called him two more times he had to pick it up. At first he thought it was a prank call- some kid trying to mess with him that one of his houses had been broken into by his own daughter- but when he got home and saw that you weren’t in your room he knew it was true.
He was sure that he broke every speed limit getting to the house, but he didn’t care. What was so wrong that you felt like you had to run away? What had happened and how had he not seen it?
Derek pulled into the driveway and jumped out of the car, Savannah right behind him. His neighbor was standing in the driveway holding a flashlight, waiting for him to arrive.
“Thanks for calling,” Derek greeted the woman- she was a nice older lady. “I’m sorry if she bothered you.”
“Oh it’s fine,” the lady said. “I’ve raised three teenagers myself. I know how they are. She says she doesn’t want to talk to you, but deep down she really does.”
Derek sighed. “I appreciate that. If there’s anything I can do to return the favor, please let me know.” The lady smiled and gave him a pat on the shoulder before walking away.
Derek sighed heavily and turned to Savannah. “I’ll be back.”
Savannah rubbed his shoulder supportively. “You’re a great father, Derek.” He took her hand and gave it a squeeze before letting go and making his way into the house.
It didn’t take him long to find you. You were curled up in a corner, legs pulled up to your chest with your face buried into your knees. You didn’t even look up when you heard his footsteps. He came closer, kneeling next to you so he was on your level, and reached out to touch your hair. At the contact, you quickly leaned away.
“(Y/N),” he said, his voice full of concern. “Please talk to me.”
“I don’t want to talk to you.” Your words were sad with a slight venom behind them. “Just go away.”
Your dad sighed and sat down on the floor in front of you. “I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s wrong.”
Suddenly, all the emotions from earlier came flooding back. You couldn’t help it- sobs racked your body as you pulled your limbs tighter towards your body. You kept your head down and your eyes shut tight, not wanting to even get a glimpse of your dad.
“You forgot movie night-” you managed to choke out between sobs. “You have Savannah now. You already forgot about mom and now you’re forgetting about me too.”
Derek felt his heart crack. He really had forgotten movie night- the one constant promise that your mom would always be a part of him and you. He took a deep breath and pulled you into a hug.
“I’m so sorry, (Y/N),” he whispered. He felt his eyes begin to water. “I did forget about movie night.” He pulled back to look at your face. You had grown up so much so fast. JJ was always telling him that if he looked away for too long he would miss it entirely and he almost had. “But that doesn’t mean I forgot about your mom and it sure doesn’t mean that I’ve forgotten about you. I know it’s hard to see me with someone who isn’t your mom- I get that- but Savannah isn’t replacing her. I will always love your mother and you will always be my baby girl. No matter what.”
The mention of the nickname he only ever used for you and your Aunt Penny brought the tiniest smile to your face. Derek pulled you into another hug.
“Can we go home now?” you asked quietly.
“Of course.” He kissed your forehead and pulled you to your feet, holding your hand as you walked out to the car. Savannah was standing there, a sympathetic look on her face. Your dad helped you into the back seat first before helping her into the front. You were so tired from the emotions and adrenaline that you fell asleep before the car even pulled out of the driveway.
---
Derek gently took your seatbelt off and pulled you out of the car in an effort not to wake you up. He was thankful that Savannah was there to lock the vehicle after him and open the front door so he could carry you up the stairs and towards your bedroom. If working out was good for nothing else but still being able to carry his baby girl at 15 years old, it was worth it.
“Derek,” Savannah whispered from behind him before he opened up your bedroom door. He turned to look at her. “Let her sleep in our room tonight. She’s your baby, but she isn’t going to be for much longer.”
Derek smiled softly and walked to the main bedroom, laying you down in the middle of the mattress. He looked down at your face, sleep softening your features. Changing quickly into his pajamas, he snuggled next to you, pulling your body closer to his. Savannah laid down on your other side, a gentle smile on her face as she watched the two of you together.
For the first time since your mom died, Derek felt whole- like the wound to his heart had healed over with a faint scar to remind him of what was, but allowing him to move forward.
“You know,” Derek said quietly. “I’ve let that house sit for a few years. It is kind of a dream project come true so I’ve been waiting for the right time to work on it.”
“Oh yeah?” Savannah whispered.
“Well it’s bigger than this place.” He ran a hand down your hair. “And there are more kids around (Y/N)’s age. The neighbors are nice and the school district is the same. It’s about 10 minutes closer to the hospital and Quantico.” Derek sighed. “I guess I was waiting for a time when the house could become a home.”
Savannah smiled sleepily. “You think you could make it a home?”
Derek’s smile grew. “I think we could make it a home. Together.” He still had his arms around you when he fell asleep that night and by the morning, Savannah’s arms would be around you too.
Soon there would be a restored house, with more dinners on the couch, nights you could spend with your friends when your dad and Savannah went out, a park nearby to walk in, and a large grassy yard to practice judo. But ultimately, it didn’t matter because the three of you would always see one another as home.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Dozens of striking workers from Savannah cafes are set to strike on Saturday, Aug. 5. Foxy Loxy, Fox & Fig, and Henny Penny employees will gather with community members in Troup Square at 1 p.m. with a list of demands for their employer. "IT always we can think about this, and we are going to work towards this. They might go as far as to make a small plan about it, but actions speak louder than words," said Rose Waltron, an employee at Henny Penny. On Friday, employees sent a letter to the cafes demanding better working conditions, higher wages, and a safe workplace. "A consistent this is what happens when you cross train. This is how much you are paid, and we can help you repair any damage that we have done by not paying attention to that," said Waltron. The letter was signed by more than 40 workers across the three restaurants. Workers requested a sit-down with Foxy Loxy management, but the company refused to come to the table.

Lovers & Strangers - Chapter 14
Previous
Tumblr media
I open my eyes slowly as I hear beeping fill the room. I try to sit up noticing I am not in a hospital bed. My head is pounding and my body is in so much pain that I end up giving up and laying back down. “You’re up!” I heard and I turn to see Savannah, and Khloe
“Yeah” I say with a hoarse tone
“I’ll go get the nurse” Khloe says standing up and leaving the room
“What happened?”
“I don’t know, you just fell,” Savannah says. “The nurse needs to ask you questions because the paramedics pulled the plastic bag out of your pocket”
“I didn’t take anything last night I swear” I tell her as the nurse walks into the room
“Hi Y/n, can we speak alone?” she asks smiling politely at Savannah, and she stands making her way to the door
“Wait, where is my phone?” I asked Savannah before she left, Savannah walked back in placing my phone on the table beside me before leaving the room
“Hi Y/n, I’m Becky. How are you feeling?”
“Been better”
“You’re a University of Michigan Hospital. You came in last night around 11:45 unconscious. We had you monitored throughout the night and put you on liquids so you are still going to feel slightly hungover. Would you mind if I asked you a couple questions?”
“Why?”
“You have some worried friends. Nothing you say will get you in any kind of trouble, there has just been concerns brought up about your health”
“What friend?” I say feeling betrayed
“I can come back and ask later if you would like”
“No, It’s fine”
“Y/n” she starts as she takes a seat beside me, “what do you remember from last night?”
“I facetimed a friend, then got ready and went to Nicole’s and pregamed, then went to a party”
“How much alcohol did you consume before the party?”
“Like two cans of beer, and then a beer and two coolers at the party so I wasn’t that drunk”
“Did you take any other kind of substance?”
“No, I know no one believes me but I didn’t take anything!” I say defensively
“It’s okay Y/n, I’m here to help you” she says, “Have you left your drink unattended at all last night? Could someone have put something in your drink?”
“No, the last thing I remember is standing with my group of friends then slowly getting loopy, I thought I was having a stroke or something because I couldn’t speak but I wasn’t drunk enough to leave my drink unattended” I speak a little frazzled
“Y/n would you mind if we got a urine sample? This is something we do need your consent for.”
“You think I took drugs?”
“No I believe you didn’t, but I’m not sure that something wasn’t slipped in your drink last night”
“What else is shown on this test?” I ask a little nervously
“Any drug or alcohol really that you would have taken in around the last 5 days” she says, but I look away from her. She puts a cup on the table, “it’s here if you decide to, the earlier the better detection”
I listen as she sits for a second waiting from my response. When I don’t respond I hear her stand up and make her way to the door, “I took Molly last weekend” I say and she stops at the door before opening it, “I don’t want that on my health records or anything like that”
“Did you take it last night?”
“No”
“Chances are that there wouldn’t be much in your urine, but if there is your health records are only available to you and your doctors” she says, I nod and sit up from the bed grabbing the cup. “Let me walk you to the bathroom” she smiles, guiding me.
After peeing in the cup and handing it to the nurse I head back into the room where both Khloe and Savannah had gone back into. I don’t even look at them as I lay on the bed and grab my phone. The time is 8:49am. I look through to see I missed three more calls from Mark and 4 texts:
~Saturday 10:45pm~
Mark: Answer
Mark: You alright?
Mark: ???
Mark: Y/n???
~Sunday 8:51am~
Y/n: Hey! Everything ended up being okay last night!
I lied to Mark because he has a big day ahead of him, and I should be the least of his worries. I look through my messages to see zero from Ethan. He really is still ignoring me. I roll my eyes and throw my phone back on the table.
“So Ethan hates me” I say grabbing both the girls attention
“What happened?” Khloe asks
“Literally nothing. He has ignored me all day yesterday and hasn’t texted me at all last night”
“That is strange” Khloe says
“Did you try texting him today?” Savannah says
“No, I’ll try I guess” I say reaching over for my phone, and sending him a quick text
Y/n: Hey E, sorry for whatever I did.
Y/n: Good luck today! 💛
“There sent” I say looking at the girls.
We sit and talk waiting for my results to come back in for about 3 hours before the nurse comes in. She takes a seat and smiles at me and Khloe and Savannah stand. “No, you guys can stay” I tell them and they look at the nurse for approval. The nurse smiles and nods and the two girls sit back down.
“So there was a low concentration of MDMA found, but that would be based on what you told me about last weekend, and there is still quite a bit of alcohol in your system. What worries me though is the other category, this held your highest percentage”
“What is in the other category?” I ask her
“Ketamine, various different antidepressants and hallucinogens and Rohypnol. I believe someone slipped Rohypnol into your drink last night.”
“Rohypnol?” Khloe questions
“Roofie” the nurse confirms
She continues to talk about my results and questions me about if I remember being sexually assaulted or if my friends can think of anything that may have happened, before she left us in the room. I was discharged around an hour later and headed to my house. I was so tired that I could have gone to bed for the night as soon as I got home.
I ended up falling asleep before the game started but woke up just in time to watch overtime. It was quick and easy on my nerves thank god. I texted both Mark and Ethan matching ‘Congratulations’ text before getting in the bath.
To my surprise Ethan texted me back first:
Ethan 💛: I’m sorry
Ethan 💛: I shouldn’t have ignored you all day
Ethan 💛: You should be here
Y/n: I wish I went 🙁
I text him back before opening the text from Mark:
Mark: Can’t wait to celebrate ;)
I text Mark back a picture of my body in the bath then “We can celebrate here ;)” along with it. I finish up in the tub before going to bed.
The next morning, I get up and get ready for class. That I actually went to. The first class was so boring without Luca. But the second class was so much better. I walk in and sit with Nicole and Khloe and Nicole begins pestering me with questions right off the bat.
“Are you okay? Are you still in pain? What happened?” She asks me
“I’m fine”
“So when do the boys get back?” Khloe asks me changing the subject as she senses that I really don’t want to talk about the weekend
“Early this morning” I say
“Are you and Ethan good now?” Khloe asks
“Yeah” I smile
After class ended, I texted Ethan and asked him if he could drive me home. Luckily he went to his last class so he was able to. I met him at his car and he greeted me with a smile as he walked towards me with his arms wide. I force a smile trying to stop worrying about how late I was and hugged him back. “I missed you!” I say
“I missed you too,” he says back. I feel myself start to cry in his shoulder and he begins rubbing my back, “hey hey what's wrong?”
“I-I needed you this weekend” I say continuing to cry
“Come on, let’s get in the car” he says walking me to the passenger side. He helps me in before making his way around to the drivers seat and just sits watching me cry.
“I needed you yesterday, and you ignored me” I say through my tears
“What do you mean?”
“Someone roof-roofied m-me” I cry out, “S-saturday”
“Who?” Ethan asks, I can hear the defensive anger in his voice
“I d-don’t k-know”
Ethan shakes his head, “Caleb wasn’t it?”
“I-” I start but look away for a second before looking back at him. I swallow hard, “I think so”
“I’ll kill him” Ethan says before putting the car in reverse and speeding home.
The drive home wasn’t quite, Ethan asked me a ton of questions, then apologized for ignoring me, then telling me how guilty he felt.
We got to Ethan’s and I went straight to his room. We sat on his bed as he held me close in his chest. He opened his computer and put on Modern Family. “I’m going to get some water” I tell Ethan standing up then looking in his mirror to fix my makeup. “Do you want me to bring you a glass too?”
“Sure” he smiled and I slipped out of his room. I shut his door behind me and made my way down the stairs.
I made my way into the kitchen and reached up to grab a glass when all of a sudden I felt a pair of hands on my waist, I turned to see exactly who I was craving most. Mark presses his lips on mine before lifting me up on the counter. I wrap my legs around him and bring him in close, as I continue making out with him.
I pull away when I hear the stairs creak and Mark makes his way across the kitchen as I jump down off the counter grabbing the cups. Mackie soon walks in the kitchen, and I smile at him before heading back up to Ethan’s room.

The Grandest Game
Chapter 3
———————————————————
GRAYSON:
Everybody was at the island, waiting for the contestants to arrive. Everything had already been set up, but there was still an anxious energy around just having to wait for them. Even I had to admit that the wait was killing me as well. Suddenly, I feel my phone ring in my pocket, and immediately feel a jolt just from the thought of it being that girl. Getting my phone out of my pocket, I answered quickly.
“Hello?” I ask, expecting to hear the girls addicting voice. But I don’t.
“Look who’s finally started to say hello.” Eve says. My jaw clenched just from the sound of her voice.
“What do you want?” I say, not even bothering to sugar coat it. She tuts.
“Well, you seem to be making everybody upset lately.” She says, mockingly. I swallow.
“What do you mean?” I say, my voice low. There’s a pause, almost as if she wants me to sit with my lack of information, before she speaks.
“You know, like your sister.” I freeze. Gigi was obviously upset with me about what happened to her father, but me and her are forgiven now. But Savannah…
“What did you do?” There’s silence on the other end, and I could picture her deathly smile even now.
“I told her the truth.” I go silent. The truth was, Sheffield Grayson kidnapped Avery, expecting Toby to show up. Then, Mellie shot him. That was the truth. But I wondered how easy it would be to twist that story into something much, much more different. My heart sank, but I didn’t allow any of that emotion to transfer into my voice.
“What did you tell her, exactly?”
“You’ll just have to wait to find out. Although, I doubt it will take long for your dear sister to confront you.” Then she hangs up. My teeth hurt from how hard I was clenching my jaw, and my hands were folded into fists as well. What did Eve tell Savannah? It didn’t take very long for my thoughts to get interrupted.
“Grayson?” Libby says, knocking before coming into my room. I turn to face her, making my expression neutral.
“Yes?” I ask, my voice curt.
“You have a visitor. She says she’s your sister?” She replies. This time, I couldn’t stop my eyes from widening. Eve had definitely told Savannah some tarnished version of the truth. And knowing Savannah, she was pissed.

LYRA KANE:
I was still packing my bags to leave for The Game, when my little brother walks into my room.
“Do you really have to leave already?” He asks, whining. I smile at him.
“Do you want me to be late? Besides Gabriel, family’s are allowed to visit on weekends, and tomorrow’s Saturday. Why aren’t you getting ready for school?” I ask him. He sighs and goes to get ready, leaving me to continue packing. I honestly didn’t expect Eve’s plan to work out, but it did. I was a contestant in The Game, and if Eve’s cards play right, she’ll get the “Hawthorne Legacy”. The truth was, I wasn’t as invested in this as Eve was, I just wanted to get my closure, and money, and leave. But the only reason that I’m even packing for this is because of Eve, so I guess I should cut her some slack. Zipping my luggage up, I slung my backpack over my shoulder and carried my suitcase to the living room. My mom was in the kitchen, cooking, and Gabriel was building legos on the carpet. Seeing me walk out of my room, my mom races over to me.
“You’re all packed?” She says, grabbing me and hugging me.
“Yup. I got everything I need and more, as per your requests.” I reply. My mom stops hugging me to study my face.
“Remember Lyra, you belong there. Even if you feel out of place, just remember that they’re just rich people living their rich lives, and they’re really not that special.” She says. Her soft tone makes me snort.
“That’s brutal, Mama. I’m gonna tell them you said that.” I say, jokingly. I see her eyes go wide as she berates me in Spanish for saying something like that. Rolling my eyes with amusement, I walk over to the kitchen to get a quick snack before leaving. Grabbing a banana, I go over to hug my mom again.
“I need to go now if I’m gonna catch the train. Bye Mama, te amo.” I say, hugging her before giving her a kiss on the cheek. She hugs me back.
“Bye Lyra, I love you more.” She says, hugging me back. Gabriel, who sees me leaving, jumps up and runs over to give me a hug.
“Bye Lyra! Tomorrow, can I bring my project for the science fair so you can help me please?” He asks. I laugh.
“Sure, we can do that. Bye Gabriel, I love you!” I say, waving. He and my mom wave back, and I grab my things to go walk over to the train station, which was only really a five minute walk from here. Although I couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread on the way there, as well as the feeling that Eve had gotten me into something way larger than I had imagined.

GRAYSON:
I walk over to the foyer, and see Savannah standing there. Her face looked perfectly pleasant, but she had a dark look in her eyes that Grayson couldn’t shake.
“Hello, Grayson. Do you mind if we could go someplace to talk?” She asks, her voice curt with a sharp edge. I nod.
“Of course. We could talk in my room?” I offer, turning around and walking there. I caught Jameson’s eye as I was walking, and saw the look on his face. Something was wrong, and even he knew it. Whatever Eve said, I’m sure most of it wasn’t true. But no matter what Eve said, it’s still my fault that I hurt Savannah by not telling her the truth. And now, it was going to have to come out. The walk there was excruciatingly silent, until I opened the door to my room and gestured for her to walk in. She didn’t. Instead, she turns to me, a flame glowing in her eyes.
“I don’t care who you are. I don’t care if you’re my brother, or my family, because after what you did to my father, you don’t deserve to carry even a drop of my blood.” She spat, her voice venomous. I resisted the urge to flinch, and noticed how Savannah referred to Sheffield as her father, not mine.
“What did Eve tell you?” My voice was completely neutral, and I tried to be as calm as possible.
“She told me what you already know. That one of your people shot Dad and then left him there to die. She told me that you did it all for Avery. Well, was it worth it, Grayson? I bet it wasn’t, because in the end, she didn’t even end up choosing you.” She shot back. I didn’t show it on my face, but still, the insult hurt more than she could ever imagine. Me and Avery were family now, that was something that I could admit, but back then it killed me that she chose Jameson. I sucked in a quick breath.
“Savannah, that isn’t the whole story. I’m sure Eve didn’t tell you about why Avery was there-“ She cuts me off before I can explain.
“I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to hear more of your lies. You knew what happened to my father, but still you said nothing. Me and Gigi were looking for him, looking for any trace of him, and yet here you were, knowing the entire time that he was-“ Dead, I finished for her in my head, my heart sinking. She breathes in through her nose, and out through her mouth.
“I just don’t get it. She trusted you Grayson,” She said, tears shining her eyes, but the only emotion on her face was anger. “I was starting to trust you too.” My chest heaved. I wished that I could fix this entire situation, but I couldn’t. I’m sorry Savannah, I thought, I’m so, so sorry.
“I’m not going to reason with you on this anymore. But I mean it Grayson, when I say that I don’t want you talking to me or my sister anymore. Just stay away from us. Do you understand?” She asks me, her voice dangerous. I wanted to say something, anything, but what was done was done, and I couldn’t fix it. Instead I just nod, and she quickly wipes her tears until any traces of her crying were gone, and walks away, her heels clicking as she does.
“Grayson?” Xander says, awkwardly walking out from around the corner once Savannah had passed. Something in his expression told me that he had definitely been eavesdropping.
“Yes?” I say, trying not to show any sign of sadness from the past conversation on my face.
“The first contestants have arrived.”

Tumblr media
roos says ! is this in character? no idea. rooster plays a big role here bc i can imagine him being fed up with everyones shit very quickly. also fanboy playing guitar is such a good idea i love it. also this being called 'how guitar??' in my docs is rlly funny to me, thought I'd share :)
desc ! you've worked at the Hard Deck for a few years now, and everyday you swear you fall more in love with your job. Little do you know, the Daggers are enacting a plan on Fanboy's behalf-- an attempt to swoon you with live music.
genre ! pure fluff baby
TWs: drunkenness, cursing
Being a server at The Hard Deck was probably one of the best post-college decisions you had made. In the past three years that you'd worked there, Penny had become more of a mother than a boss, and your co-workers were like sisters. The restaurant was one hundred percent your second home, and if you found yourself bored at home, there was always something to be done there. It was not the only job you had, freelance didn't pay consistently enough though, so you found yourself working at both The Hard Deck and a small boat rental company on the shore for vacationing families in San Diego. Moving to California right after graduation was the worst post-college decision you had made. Rent was high, jobs were hard to come by, and even with your three roommates in your two-bedroom apartment, you still struggled to make every end meet. But you made it work, with the help of your co-workers, your perseverance, and a shit-ton of luck you somehow had. The day was winding to an end, the golden sun cresting over the ocean and shimmering the day's goodbye across the sky in vibrant hues. You snuck a picture on your phone, sending it to your roommates with an inside joke caption before you shoved it in your apron and adjusted your shirt. The low-cut v-necks were a new uniform piece, and optional compared to the usual button-up shirts or the custom company tees. The cut didn't bother you, but, as you served around a group of regulars-- the Iron Daggers, you'd come to call them, since it was their Squadron's nickname, you caught the eyes of the man who simply would not stop staring at you since you'd served him months ago. Fanboy, his name tag read, and luckily for you, it was a busy Saturday, so you didn't have to keep his dark eyes gaze with his soft grin pushing up his tanned cheeks, and ugh, why was he so... perfect?
He was nice, you'd spoken a few times. He was from New Hampshire, hated the cold, and moved to California the second he got the opportunity to. He was in the Navy now, and you respected his line of work but weren't the type to settle down. Even years after graduating with a master's degree in Architecture, you still needed to land a solid job you could keep. And nothing in this area was lasting you longer than six months, or it paid job-to-job, which you fucking hated. Sure, it was nice to have a couple of thousand dollars dropped in at once, but it wasn't sustainable for your compulsive buying habits.
You made your way back to the servers station, tugging up the v-neck and huffing, reminding yourself mentally to wash your other work shirts when you got home. As you stood on your toes to grab a pitcher, someone else kicked open the swinging door and groaned as they set down the various plastic baskets of fries on the dish shelf.
"How long do you think we'll go until the jukebox gets shuts off?" A fellow server, Savannah, asks as she starts dumping the fries into the trash and the plastic bins into a dish tray. Her long blonde hair is pulled up in a perfect ponytail, the whispy hairs framing her face. She always looked so flawless, it made you a bit jealous, but you knew she'd taken a lot of time to care for and nurture her look. She did a wonderful job.
"Give them two rounds." Amelia comments from the other side of the server station, she's propped up on a counter, idly typing away on her laptop with one earbud in. You chuckle to yourself as you carry the two pitchers in one hand over to the other side of the kitchen, throwing a towel over your shoulder as you grab ice from the cooler and a scoop for the ice. You bend over to begin filling up your pitchers.
"Your mom would be pissed if she saw you on that counter, Amelia." You comment, moving the full pitcher to the side as you fill the other. Savannah walks over to a small mirror in the station and adjusts her hair and makeup as she chuckles along to your comment.
Amelia pointedly rolls her eyes, "She's with Maverick today."
"Oh god, another woman lost to the Navy." Savannah salutes and you blow a huff out of your nose with a smirk, rolling your eyes as you use a small "drink gun" (which was essentially a soda fountain in a hose) to fill your pitchers. The six kids there were absolutely downing every small cup you gave them, so this would be easier, for you and their parents who had to flag you down every five seconds.
"Be careful, Y/n might be next." Amelia looks at you over her laptop screen, "I saw Fanboy checking you out."
"That's a him issue." You say, "And I refuse to date Navy."
Savannah turns back to you with an overexaggerated pout, "Awe, why not? Fanboy's cute!"
"Nope, no Navy." You say, and then you perk up when you realize the music had stopped at some point during your conversation, "Are the Daggers on their first round still?"
"Just got the second from Macie at the bar. Shit, it took that little time?"
"Unsurprising." Amelia smiles, putting her second earpod in. You grab both of the pitchers, shrugging to Savannah in a sort of 'we knew this would happen gesture which she giggles at before you dip out of the kitchen with the pitchers in hand.
Now, what usually happened when the jukebox got unplugged was Rooster would saunter over to the piano and serenade everyone with Great Balls of Fire. But that was not what was happening, because someone was playing the guitar.
Who the fuck brought their guitar to a dive bar?
You recognized the tune immediately though, it's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For,' a song you'd loved for as long as you could remember, and you recalled you'd been humming it only an hour or so ago when the Iron Daggers had first walked in. Which you only remembered because Fanboy had commented on it then. As you set the pitchers down at the table of kids, the Mom smiles.
"Those aviators always surprise me with their talents." She whispers as if trying not to interrupt the pretty acoustics. You can't help but agree, watching the mostly tipsy aviators sing and sway over by the piano's nook. Rooster joins on piano, and the whole bar starts to hum along. It's a lot slower than usual, but the joy in singing and being together is clear on everyone's smiling faces.
Then, you realize who's playing guitar as you see his eyes meet yours across the dimly lit bar.
"I didn't know he could play." You say the mother and she smiles, turning to her husband and singing as you find yourself entranced as you slowly move a bit closer to where the aviators sit. Fanboy plays the guitar nimbly, his fingers not once dragging along the frets as he strums the tune out. Subconsciously, you smile, before realizing just how long you've held eye contact and breaking it in favor of slipping away and further into the bar.
--
The next time the daggers are in the bar, Phoenix, Halo, and Coyote are seated at the bar while you're working behind it. The three have ordered enough alcohol to support a small army, which you assume is the pilots behind them, plus a few older pilots you don't recognize. You spot Maverick between two men you don't notice, both have their wives draped lazily on their arms, and pool ques go unused in their hands as they drink and talk with the younger pilots beside them.
"Did Mickey really bring his guitar again?" You hear Coyote ask as you pour him a B52 shot to go with his coffee.
"Head over heels." Halo comments, taking a sip of her cosmo, "He's fuckin' whipped into shape and she has no idea."
"Who do you think it is?" You ask, sliding the shot to Coyote and the look Phoenix and Halo share is enough to cut diamonds. It makes you shift, "Nevermind, the jukebox is currently being unplugged by a drunk mustache man."
"Oh boy." Phoenix takes a long sip of her drink, and her glass sets down on the wooden bar in time with the first strum of a Grenade. You blink, looking across the bar to where you watch the drunk pilots sing together.
"Oh, I love Bruno Mars." You softly muse and Phoenix makes a face at Coyote and Halo that has them both groaning and laying their heads on the bar. You roll your eyes and lean back on the bar, watching the group.
It keeps happening for weeks, every shift you work, at least Hangman, Payback, and Rooster show up with Fanboy. And every time, after Fanboy's had at least two drinks, he plays a song. Sometimes Rooster initiates the song, but the night always starts with beer. Usually either Blue Moon or Bud Light. You find that every shift, you begin to wonder when they'll come in, and every shift you feel yourself slowly spending more and more time by the piano area. You end up getting the front of the house as your section every night, you know Penny does it on purpose.
Tonight's like any other, drunk pilots, bell ringing, spilling beer and soda on your hands and shoes, blue cheese, wing sauce, basically any liquid-like substance making you have to stop and wash your hands a hundred times through the night. But, The Hard Deck closes at midnight, and at around 11:50, all the regulars know to leave. Which makes all the others swarming the bar also want to leave. Tonight seems to be an exception for the Iron Daggers, though. They all hang back by the bar, chatting with Penny and Macie and you find yourself in a gossip circle as you take a stool from the bar and seat yourself. Your closing work is done, and you've done just about everything else for the Sunday night closing work besides mopping the floor, which you have to wait for everyone to leave to start. You have no responsibilities right now, so a soda by the bar won't hurt.
"He won't shut up about it." Phoenix laughs, swirling the wine in her hand. You know it's a local wine from a place Penny had visited in New Jersey years ago based on the fact that you'd heard the woman complaining she needed to sell it all before it went bad and the new shipment came in. And then she'd cursed Navy people for not drinking wine, while you were two glasses in, and you'd laughed so hard you almost puked. It was a... long day.
"Who won't shut up about what?" you ask as you slip behind the bar and use the soda gun to pour yourself a Coke.
"Fanboy's got a massive crush." A very drunk Bob says.
"Shots with Omaha got him again?" Penny teases and Bob crosses his arms before laying his head on them as he grumbles some sort of complaint that makes you laugh softly.
"Anyway, Y/n." Phoenix swats Bob's shoulder, "How do you enjoy serving us every single night?"
"I don't mind, actually. You guys always have something fun going on, and it's entertaining to watch it. Though I'm starting to wonder if all pilots magically have some sort of musical ability," You take a long sip of your drink while Bob laughs, sitting back up, swaying, and then laying back down.
"Only when they're trying to serenade-"
"Floyd." Phoenix cuts him off, "You're terrible at keeping secrets while drunk."
"Oh sorry," Bob says with a flush to his cheeks and a giddy giggle on his lips. You blink away, Savannah taking control of the conversation with a story about a table she had today. You look over to where Fanboy, Hangman, and Rooster sit and talk by the darts. But your eyes narrow when you see Rooster making some sort of vague hand motions at you. Before Fanboy slumps against the table, Hangman laughs.
"Hey, Y/n!" Rooster calls, waving you over, much to the visible dismay of Fanboy. You make your way back around the bar and over to where they sit, swirling your drink in hand.
"Gonna have to kick you boys out as soon as we get Bob a ride home." You say as you walk over, using one hand to adjust your server's aprons, feeling the fabric bump against the few decorative rings you wear.
"Yeah, well Fanboy needs one too." Rooster smacks his shoulder and you give him an odd look.
"Okay..?"
"Y/n. I have a..." Hangman drawls out and you watch as Fanboy's head perks up from where it had previously been buried in his arms, "a question."
"Fire away." You take a sip of your coke.
"Are you free Friday night?" You nearly spit out said coke. It takes you a minute, and a few coughs, to regain your posture.
You clear your throat, taking another sip of Coke to wash down the scratchiness, "Not for you."
"Sucks to suck, bags." Fanboy says and you giggle at his comment when he notices you see his whole face light up red. It looks cute, the way his pupils dilate when you make eye contact, and his insult dies in his throat.
Rooster kicks Hangman under the table, making another vague gesture between you and Fanboy.
"Yo loverboy," Hangman kicks Fanboy, and Rooster groans, burying his head in his hands, "Follow me up, here, we had a plan."
"A plan?" You say, the three drunk pilots (with Rooster, for once, being the soberest of the group) blinking up at you.
"You ruined it, bagman." Fanboy sits up, brushing a hand through his hair, "I uh... well, I was also wondering if you're free Friday."
"Well, I wish I was. I have work." You say, watching as Fanboy sags, so you keep going, "You can always bring your guitar back around here if you want to hang out a bit."
Rooster's short patience wears out, "Y/n. You're both clueless here. Mickey beside me is askin' you on a date, like a one-on-one thing here."
Oh.
Oh.
"I--" You stammer, but Rooster keeps going.
"He's been spending the past three weeks tryna serenade you or some shit because he claims its super romantic but it literally hasn't worked one time and I'm sick of hearing him complain about it--"
"--Bradshaw!" Phoenix complains from the bar, he pretends to not hear her.
"For the love of god, go on one date with him or something."
"Dude." Fanboy says after a moment, and Hangman has to walk away because he's laughing so hard.
"You've been..." You gesture to Fanboy and he nods, so you turn to Penny who gives you a thumbs up.
"Guess I'm free Friday then." You murmur and he smiles.
--
Every day since then, save for the days of the Uranium Mission and other small deployments, has been a bit of a musical breeze. It's only been two months, but dear god you've never fallen faster for someone. The pilots still come around to the Hard Deck, though, if you're not closing and you get off early, you always end up tucked in a back corner with Fanboy's hand on your waist. It's become routine for you guys to spend time at your house since he lives on base, and his guitar always comes with him. When you're cooking for him on days he comes back from training exhausted, laying around on the couch or outside with him, or with his multitude of friends, there's always a tune playing in your ear.
And honestly, you wouldn't have it any other way.
