Anyone I know and/or love: Oh no, I've come back to my fantasy comfort reading and realized the author was actually being racist/antisemitic/queerphobic/fatphobic/ableist 😭 This isn't comforting anymore.
Me, sliding into their DMs: Have you heard the good news about @shiraglassman's Mangoverse books? :3
... Srsly tho y'all read the Mangoverse books they're so so good.

I thought I might have a little fun drawing my Pokémon + Mangoverse headcanons ✌
Here’s then-Princess Shulamit at around age ten, give or take a couple of years, and the Bounsweet she befriended. Due in part to her own experiences with being misunderstood, Shulamit was the first one to figure out that Bounsweet was bouncing around because it was distressed rather than out of joy or excitement. She helped the Bounsweet fix what was distressing it, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Shulamit might be reading about the care of mangosteen plants, which Bounsweet is closely related to.
It took me a few tries to get this pose right, but I think it turned out well!
Anyway, I highly recommend the Mangoverse series for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet; it’s cozy and delightful!

May I have a brief fangirl moment?
Give a girl a second over here, cuz I don’t think I’ve ever given a shout out.
You see, I want to thank someone for giving me the gift of words.
A long, long time ago, I wrote a thing. It’s called Girls Night Out (on Fanfic.net and Archiveofourown.) And I hit a certain outtake. Chapter 38. And it kicked my ass. Hard. Like for awhile. I just couldn’t write it.
And then I went to a conference and took a class with @shiraglassman, who taught us a little bit about how to write a sex scene. And that class, ya’ll. THAT CLASS. This was maybe 2013? That class  taught me SO MUCH.
Read her. Follow her. Seriously. I don’t care what you like to read or write, whatever she’s got to say, listen to how she’s saying it. She’s a lady who understands that you have to listen to your characters and they’ll tell you how to handle things in their own words when you get stuck. She had a bunch of other, awesome advice, but this advice -- listen -- has stuck with me.
After I got back, I finished that chapter. I don’t know that I ever sent it to her -- I was too embarrassed because it was fanfic and...well, a lot of other reasons. But it was a great scene that I GOT THROUGH because of her.
She’s awesome. And if I never, ever say thank you, it will bother me forever.

Book Review: Knit One, Girl Two
—by Shira Glassman
This is a short story about Jewish lesbians, and it is adorable. Both of them are artists: one dyes yarn for people, and one paints.
There’s really not a lot to this, since it’s so short (easily the shortest story I’ve reviewed this year). But it’s quite beautiful, the way these two woman find & inspire each other. I definitely plan to read more of Glassman’s works (I have a bunch on my Kindle, but I’ve got a massive 800-page novel to get through, this was just a rest stop through that).

Small-batch independent yarn dyer Clara Ziegler is eager to brainstorm new color combinations--if only she could come up with ideas she likes as much as last time! When she sees Danielle Solomon's paintings of Florida wildlife by chance at a neighborhood gallery, she finds her source of inspiration. Outspoken, passionate, and complicated, Danielle herself soon proves even more captivating than her artwork.

Giveaway: Audiobook of Fearless by Shira Glassman
Lana Novak has spent years with her interests in the closet: Her love of women for her safety, and her love of playing the violin for practicality. Having finally come out as a lesbian, she's finding it difficult to fit looking for a girlfriend around her work schedule and keeping up with her two socially and extracirricularly active kids; she hasn't picked up a violin in over twenty years.
All of this changes when Lana and her clarinet whiz daughter Robin get snowed in at the hotel hosting All State. There, Lana meets Melanie Feinberg, Robin's hunky butch band director, who seems to be interested in Lana as well. As the two of them bond over music, Mel learns of Lana's history with the violin, and encourages her to pick up the instrument again. But Lana is afraid that it's been too long; can she find the courage to play again?
Written by Shira Glassman, this hour-long audiobook is warm and gentle, a perfect treat to listen to while crafting or doing chores.
For a chance to win one of five free copies of the audiobook, LIKE this post! Winners will be selected on May 15th, at 9pm US Eastern time.
An additional digital copy of the Knit One, Girl Two collection will be given away to one reblogger!
