Favorite movies and shows i’ve watched in 2021
I've only watched a few because of my weak attention span that year. In no particular order.
Soul (2020)
Tumblr media
I rarely watch animated films, but the premise is very interesting. I don’t think i have seen a before-life concept. Plus, music? Especially jazz. Light and heartwarming at the same time. Will make you reflect about your life, self, identity and purpose.
Rafiki (2018)
Tumblr media
SAPPHICS! You all need to watch this. Tired of white lesbians dominating film when this gem is right here. It is also banned in Kenya soooo let’s all support it! One of the best chemistries i’ve seen, vibrant cinematography, simple and well-executed, the best soundtack (made me cry) and the acting is natural, but deep. Just a content warning for blatant homophobia and violence near the end. And when i recommend a wlw media, there’s an assurance that it’s a happy ending so don’t worry my loves.
Three Identical strangers (2018)
Tumblr media
Oh this one was a big Mind F! I thought it was just a usual netflix documentary, but i was wrong. With my short attention span, i was focused from the start to end. And it started fun and chill, but has amazing lessons. Not a waste of time.
Dickinson (2019 - 2021)
Tumblr media
I have to admit that i haven’t finish this, but it’s not the show’s fault. Despite that, i still put it in my recommendation list because it is unique and entertaining. Modern dialogues that other shows can’t pull off. Also, it’s vert funny.
Jiva (2021 -)
Tumblr media
This show is fire! Female-centered and i think this is the only street dance show/movie where all leads are women?? Not sure, but please recommend if you know some. No white-washing too. It always boggles me everything white people are the center of dance media because uhm hello? It’s black people’s culture and creation. Also it’s time for people outside Africa to see the beauty of their dance (South Africa in particular).
Mine (2021)
Tumblr media
You know it’s a good drama when Kim Seo Hyung is in it coz she is very picky on which project to choose. Not a typical infidelity story, it’s very feminist. I also think this is one of the best lesbian representations i’ve seen in media. Her character is very smart, calm, strong and didn’t make her sexuality or romantic life her whole personality. And i love the female-friendship and solidarity in this show.
How to become a tyrant (2021 -)
Tumblr media
The plot is on the title itself. If you think your leader is a tyrant, this is how you confirm it. Recommend it to everyone. Also, it’s not boring and dragging so you know, it’s digestible to people who are new or really not into politics.
The sex lives of college girls (2021 -)
Tumblr media
Ok this is one of the best teen shows i’ve watched and it’s college! We rarely get that. First of all, the leads are women! And there’s no unnecessary cat fights. I hate teen shows where women ang being pitted against each other and mostly because of a man. This is so fresh and authentic. It broke a lot of stereotypes too.
Couple of Mirrors (2021 - ?)
Tumblr media
Another WLW! This one is so cute and i also find it campy and dramatic (in a good way). And i’m a sucker for period pieces (except when they are white because i’m tired). I think there should be more chinese WLWs.

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?
~ @bestcatboychatnoir 💙
I have to listen to music when writing! I really struggle with wandering focus, but music helps keep me in some sort of flow. I can't work in silence cause my mind then feels the need to fill it, and its not always fic related when it does.
I mostly listen to instrumental music when writing. My favourites are video game soundtacks or music from studio ghibli films. Songs that I'll loop or definitely have in my playlist are:
Hopes and Dreams - Undertale
Title Theme - Night in the Woods
Streets of Whiterun - Skyrim
Merry Go Round of Life - Howl's Moving Castle
Sixth Station - Spirited Away
Fanfic Writer Emoji Ask Game

Listening To Music - 16/01/2021
I love music and always have, I kind of see it as a bit of a soundtrack to my life. I love to listen to music that reflects my different moods. As a teenager I listened to a lot of sad and emotion envoking music - usually music that reflected sadness or anger.
I now listen to most music genres and enjoy the feelings it induces - happiness, sadness, music to dance to. I’ve always enjoyed listening to the lyrics of songs and especially if they resonate with me or give me a meaning, if that makes sense.
I do find that some of the music and songs I listened to during difficult periods of my life growing up are harder to listen to because they remind me of those times and I can picture where I was and remember how I felt. At the same time sometimes I like to listen if I’m feeling nostalgic about things because of this. I’ve often in life had favourite songs that I listened to on repeat over and over.
I find that soundtracks to films or television shows I enjoy I love to listen to because they make me feel something or resonate feelings inside me. I love to learn lyrics and sing along to songs, despite being told my whole life I can’t sing, which is most likely true!
I just love music I guess but these are just some of my random thoughts on the subject.

hollis fitzgerald headcanons #000 || Table of Contents
Tumblr media
Below is a list of random/vague headcanons that have come up for Hollis. The list’ll be updated as I think of them. If you have any involving him and your muse, hit me up. I’d love to hear them!
Table of Contents:
#001: “Yes, Daddy” #002: Whatcha Watchin? #003: Call On Me #004: No Labels Needed #005: Spoils of The Hunt #006: Favorite Books & Authors #007: Favorite Bands & Songs #008: Piano Man #009: Life’s a Soundtack #010: Smell ya Later #011: The Game of Life #012: Dear _____, #013: Tell me a Tale
BONUS
Hollis used to read to his siblings every night when they were growing up. Some favorites were Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, Romeo and Juliet, and Captain Underpants.
He’s got a type; dark hair with brown eyes. Though he’s always had a weakness for redheads. Nicole Kidman anyone?
Also, Audrey Hepburn.
He doesn’t, nor has he ever smoked. He can stand to be around people that do, but he can be triggered by the smell.
The stars are a weakness of his. He doesn’t know a TON about astrology, but he’ll take a night under the stars over one in a penthouse suite.
Before he started writing, it was hard for him to express his feelings. Fire purges. Purifies. It may seem weird, but if he takes you out to burn shit? Well, you’ve probably reached his inner circle. Population 1.
He was only caught once and got sealed juvie record to prove it. Luckily the only thing on it was a small arson charge. He tried to burn down his father’s hunting shed. Lesson was learned. New stealth was achieved.
Despite his dad almost ruining it, Hollis does like to hunt. He went out with his uncle a lot after Wade left. It was something to do and a way to cut back on spending.
Hollis LOVES a good thunderstorm and though it’s not conducive to his health, he likes to take runs/walks in the rain. He sees water as a way of purging, much as he does a good flame.
His siblings names are Dawn, Autumn, Oren, and Sage.

Life´s too short for weird music - Tagesempfehlung 24.10.2021
Oingo Boingo / Stay

I stumbled across a new song by Laura Shigihara on YouTube called Wish My Life Away. Ever since To the Moon I've had a fondness for many of her other songs. This new song gave pause, "Finding Paradise? Why does that sound familiar?" I looked in the description and there it was, a link to Steam. Freebird Games just released the second game in the To the Moon series.
To the Moon holds a special place in my heart. I had just started watching Makiplier videos occasionally, not quite subscribing because 'I don't have time to watch someone play video games when I just switched majors and am behind a year!' It was this let's play when I finally admitted I had a problem and hit subscribe. I remember fragments of watching Mark play To the Moon, but the clearest memory was the ending as I watched him tear up from my own watery eyes. I love games that bring out emotions happy, sad, or just bittersweet. And then that other feeling blossomed, the same I would get when I played video games with my sister or best friends, that feeling of closeness. I felt a connection with a guy I didn't know, who was thousands of miles away playing video games for a living. I watched many of his videos through the remainder of my college career, sometimes as a way to unwind and laugh, or to just to have background noise while I studied. His videos helped me to not feel so lonely when I would isolate myself to study, a friendly voice in the room that occasionally yelled and cursed.
Anyway, it's late and all it took was one song to destory me and bring out sentimental emotions and memories. So go check out Finding Paradise (and its soundtack) available on Steam (To the Moon is super good too if you haven't heard/played it). I'm probably gonna buy it myself! I hope you're all politely badgering Mark about playing Finding Paradise!
So this is my plea for @markiplier to eventually get around to playing Finding Paradise not that he'll see this! I'd love to see you play another deep meaningful game so we can all cry about it together! I'd like to see you play it when you have time to savor it though, so just put it on your list for games to play after your upcoming tour. No rush, dude. :) Thanks for all that you do, it means a lot to me and so many others.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle review
Tumblr media
Kingsman: The Secret Service is easily one of the best action films of this day and age, a delightful callback to the martini and tuxedo James Bond flicks of days past that had insane action and its tongue planted firmly in its cheek; you can’t be too serious with a fireworks show involving all the famous people in the world’s heads exploding and a henchman with razor-sharp prosthetic leg blades. I’m happy to say that the sequel is in a lot of ways even more tongue-in-cheek, and yet also manages to hit even harder emotionally in some ways. Is it better than the first one is the real question, and… well, we’ll get to that. Let’s look at the story first:
Eggsy is back! He’s dating the princess from the first movie, he’s a top Kingsman agent, life is good… until he pisses off Poppy, the 1950s-obsessed drug kingpin who leads the titular Golden Circle. She fucking destroys everything: all the Kingsmen, Harry’s house, she blows it all up, and only Merlin and Eggsy are left alive. They soon head to America to seek aid from their American cousins, the Statesmen, and it turns out the Statesmen have a very special guest: Harry, AKA Gallahad, presumed dead in the first film. Turns out the Statesmen managed to save him in time, but he has amnesia now, and thinks he’s a lepidopterist. Shame that now more than ever is when they need Harry, because Poppy is brewing up quite an evil scheme that will keep most of the world hostage. Can Eggsy get harry back in time, or is he on his own saving the world?
One thing that’s kind of weaker about this film in general is the ensemble cast. First off they introduce Michael Gambon as the new Arthur, they set up Roxy, and then within the first twenty minutes both are dead, Michael Gambon with barely three minutes of screentime. The Statesmen too, aside from Whiskey, are kind of bit players, with the much-hyped Channing Tatum getting maybe ten minutes before getting put into deep freeze until the very end. Ginger Ale, Champ, and the aforementioned Whiskey especially fare better, but the former two are still bit players in the film and are sidelined for Harry, Merlin, Whiskey, and Eggsy. Thankfully, these four are all great, they get tons of development and good interactions, they play well off each other, and they more than make up for at least a good chunk of the wasted potential in the rest of the cast.
Something that isn’t weaker? The villains. I’m not going to lie and pretend that former-Kingsman-hopeful-turned-traitor Charlie is a better and cooler henchman than Sofia Boutella’s badass Gazelle, but considering he is a badass cyborg henchman with a fucking sweet robot arm, yeah, I’d say he’s still up there as far as cool henchmen go. He gives us a cool opening fight sequence, and a cool confrontation near the end of the film too. But even better is the big bad Poppy, played by Julianne Moore. With the demeanor of a 1950s housewife and her base designed with that 50s aesthetic in mind, Poppy constantly exudes a dissonant air of cheerful serenity even as she’s ordering her henchmen to put his best friend into a meat grinder, and then serving him up a burger made from said friend’s meat. While she’s not exactly an action-y big bad, she feels a lot like a Bond villain, like Blofeld or the villain from The Spy Who Loved Me. She’s at worst on par with Valentine, and maybe even a little better. She’s definitely as quirky and entertaining, oh, and she kidnapped Elton John.
Elton John was actually one of the things that surprised me the most about this film. I expected him to be nothing more than a one-scene wonder, a brief cameo even, considering he was playing himself. Not only does he get several scenes in which he does everything from cuss up a storm to deliver a flying jump kick into a man’s face while dressed in drag, he is actually, no joke, pivotal in helping the Kingsman save the world. Honestly? Sir Elton John steals the damn show whenever he’s onscreen, and I seriously never expected this at all.
The one thing this movie does better is the action. Now, nothing in this movie truly tops the church brawl of the first film… but dear lord do they ever come close. Of special note is the final showdown at Poppy’s base, which makes up the last 30 – 40 minutes of the film, and by God is it one of the most spectacular set of battle scenes in action cinema… and it’s set to Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting!” Well, at first, all the kickass action goes on so long the song only covers the initial fight with the mooks. Then we have the fight against Poppy’s robotic dogs, the fight against Charlie, and then one final confrontation before the world is saved, and each and every one of them is seriously spectacular. Of special note is the final battle, which is something of a call back to the church brawl, in that it is a kickass action sequence set to awesome music made to look like it was done in a single shot. And speaking of call backs, we get one to the “Manners maketh man” bar fight… only this time, Harry gets his ass kicked because he’s still not fully recovered and his depth perception is off on that first mug. This leads to Whiskey stepping in and showing the Southern ruffians what maketh man, and boy oh boy does THAT scene kick ass. The action is just fantastic in this film, no complaints in that department.
The movie is also a lot funnier; the humor is much more refined and it feels like there were a lot more jokes and funny moments than the first film (which don’t get me wrong, had plenty of funny moments). Much like the first film, this movie’s soundtack also kicked a lot of ass, with Prince scoring the opening battle and the obligatory Elton John songs. There’s also some real emotion in this one, especially involving Eggsy’s relationship with the princess, his relationship with Harry, and even a truly tearjerking moment just before the final battle. There’s so much great shit here.
If I had to compare this to anything, I’d say it’s most like one of the better Moore Bond films, like The Spy Who Loved Me (with maybe just a dash of the campiness of something like The Man with the Golden Gun or Live and Let Die). And honestly? I love that. I love that in this day and age we an have an awesome, action-packed, campy spy film alongside grittier, more serious ones like the Daniel Craig Bond films. So all things considered… I love this movie. I definitely recommend it, especially if you like Moore’s output of Bond films or silly, over-the-top action with solid plot and characters. This won’t disappoint as long as you go in expecting a different beast than the first one; the first film is like a Connery Bond film, this one is like Moore. Oh so similar, and yet oh so different.
And if nothing else can get you to see this, let me reiterate: Elton John, dressed in full feathery, peacock-esque drag, flying jump kicks a man straight in the face.

Hollis Fitzgerald Headcanon #009 || Life’s a Soundtack
Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life - Berthold Auerbach
Having consumed many books and poems over the last two plus decades of his life, Hollis can’t quite remember where he read it, but it’s stuck with him. It helped explain why he feels such an attachment to music. It’s an escape as much as any book and that’s all he’s ever wanted to do. So when he runs the streets of Alston, he listens to music to take him from the treadmill that is his hometown.
He listens to soft instrumentals, piano and violin. Things to calm his nerves or lull him into that otherworldly feeling while allowing him to think or explore or whatever’s on his mind in the moment.
On the days he wants to forget the world and escape his thoughts, he’ll blast something with lyrics and that varies too. And maybe it’s his empathetic nature or something connected to the whole of his unconscious, but it moves him, gives him a place to explore the things he can’t or won’t say out loud and to him? That’s magic.
Here is a playlist featuring some songs Hollis listens to. It’s still in its infancy and more will be added as I go.

1, 13 and 14 😊
Thank you for the questions cutie!
1. First game you played obsessively?
Oh gosh, I found myself obsessed with many games from a young age. It’s probably between Cats & Dogs 2, Tomb Raider ½, The Sims 1, Zoo Tycoon, Harry Potter, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, House of the Dead 2 and Pokemon Snap. I spent so many days, months and years playing those games, and some of their continued franchises. I could spend a good 12+ hours just playing as Lara in Croft Manor in a day too!
13. A game you’ve never played that everyone else has?
I’m probably the only gamer in the world who hasn’t played Overwatch, and I really really want to get it sometime on my ps4 to see what it’s like, because I know I’ll love it!
14. Favorite game music?
Tomb Raider 2 Venice theme by a long mile. I adored it as a child and played it probably too many times for my parents to handle lolol! It’s so fun and upbeat, made a great addition to the game with the sound of the speedboat included!
Other than that, The Uncharted Soundtack which has some melodies that are out of this world included in the entire franchise, The Witcher 3 Soundtrack which is really unique and strong but quite old aged sounding if that makes sense? The Horizon Zero Dawn Soundtrack, just the sounds of the machines captured me, what a gorgeous soundtrack and opening. The Tomb Raider Soundtrack, I used to listen to all the opening themes which was about 30 minutes long of all the games, and then listen to each games soundtrack individually, Life is Strage soundtrack is just so beautiful. The Fallout 4 Opening Theme tune. Gosh, I’m addicted to so many game melodies I could keep going haha!
Send me video game questions
1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 22, 38 have already been answered! =D
