Let’s Meet In An Unfamiliar Season (2022)

A drama that tells the story of COVID-19 confirmed patients in 2020 who enter a residential treatment centre, communicating through windows and comforting each other during unfamiliar and fearful quarantine times.

Music:

This drama special had a couple of really nice OSTs, 낯선 고백 (Strange Confession) by Ra.L and I Can’t Stop Thinking About You by Lee Joon Hwa. The use of music throughout was well done, I especially loved the use of Sunwoo Junga’s Run With Me.

Overall:

This drama special totally had my heart fluttering. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

This drama special tells the story of two individuals who meet as next door neighbours in lock down. Stuck together in a residential COVID treatment facility in Seoul, in stuffy rooms with windows that open mere centimetres that allow them to interact with one another. The female lead is quarantined after testing positive as a close contact and the male lead tests positive upon arrival at Incheon Airport from Australia. On his journey to the centre his phone was smashed so he has no ability to contact the outside world or access to news or entertainment. This is the catalyst for our leads to “meet” and become each other's confessional, close confident, friend, and more.

The storyline is super relatable since we’ve all been through the pandemic and experienced the fear and stigmatisation of people with the virus from some perspective. At some point in our lives we have most likely experienced the sensation of utter boredom. It served as a sweet romance but also a thank you to the people on the front lines of the COVID-19 response.

It took me a minute to realise the male lead was the hot douchebag from The Glory AKA Kim Tak Soo from Fight My Way. So this was the first time seeing him in a not complete-douchebag role and he pulled it off! The female lead is the very adorable Han Ji Eun. They both did a great job bringing their characters to life.

The story used the short time frame well to tell the story and encapsulated the fear, boredom and budding friendship of the two who had never met face to face. I loved them going all analogue with a string telephone. The female lead picking the red string (of fate) from her handmade blanket to join the paper cups was a strong visual metaphor. I also loved the journeys they took through their imaginations. They had me smiling and crying along the way.

I enjoyed it a lot and would watch it again.

If you’re looking for something short and sweet or have been waiting for the COVID romances to roll out this is your moment.

i had to wait until i was in the right mood, which took a while, but i just finished the world of the married and loved it so MUCH. i can see why it's so highly rated!! i think i must just enjoy watching twisted dysfunctional relationships? i mean keep it away from me irl but if it's fictional?? heck yes. sunwoo and taeoh were an absolute trainwreck, it was fantastic. park hae-joon did such a good job because you really. REALLY hate his character. and yet still feel kinda bad for him by the end!

seen some ppl say it's a stressful show to watch but like......pretty much everyone is a terrible person, i didn't care what happened to most of them and just enjoyed myself tbh. it was the same with penthouse, i just live for the DRAMA

Bu diziyi anlatırken neresinden tutsam bir türlü bilmiyorum. Oyunculara ısınamadığım kısmı bir kenara, bir süre sonra dizi öyle bir hal aldı ki, sevmek imkansızdı. Anlatmaya çalışayım, Goo Ra-Ra (Go Ara) adında bir kızın hikayesi ile başlıyor. Ra-Ra küçükken, babası kızında müzik zekası görüyor ve piyano hocası tutuyor. Hocayı gerçekten silah zoru ile getiriyorlar. Kızımız da babasını haksız çıkartmamak için bütün hayatı boyunca piyano eğitimi alıyor. Mezun olunca da ‘tamam’ diyor ‘babamın istediğini yaptım, artık piyanoyu bırakabilirim. Böyle de saçma bir şey. 25 yıllık emeği çöpe atıyorsun, ne o babam öyle istedi … Kız diplomasını aldığı gün bırakıyor piyanoyu, bu seferde babası diyor ki evlenme yaşın geldi. Hadi bakalım. Tabi ki, kızımız bunu da kabul ediyor. Düğün günü geliyor, meğer baba batmak üzereymiş. Babası battığını düğün salonunun kapısında duyup kalp krizi geçirip ölüveriyor. RA-Ra’da, mihrapta babasını beklerken, damat adayının annesi ‘bunlar artık fakir olmuş evlenemezsin’ diye oğlunu alıp gidiyor. Kız hem parasız hem babasız hem de kocasız kalıyor.

Yer yer komedi ve abartı mizah yapılmış olmasından mı bilmiyorum, şimdi anlatırken saçmalıklar fazla fazla gözüme batsa da dizi bana eğlenceli başlamış gibi geldi. Ra-RA karakterinin başına ne gelirse gelsin, umut dolu güler yüzlü bir kız olması ilgi çekiciydi. Bundan sonrasında kızın ayakları üzerinde durmasını izleyeceğiz diye düşünürken, abartmaları devam etti. Babasının sağ kolu kızımıza bir çanta para ve kızın kendi arabasını vererek, bir süre ortalarda görünmemesini tembihleyip gönderdi. Kızımız ne yaptı dersiniz? Evet, dolandırıldı. Bütün parasını emlakçı sandığı birine verip ortada kaldı. Sonra da instagramda hiç tanımadığı birinin yazdığı bir yoruma güvenerek, kendini yorumun sahibini bulmaya diye yollara vurdu. Vurdu demişken bir de yolda Sunwoo Joon ( Lee Jae-Wook)’a çarptı. Kazada iki kolunu da kırdı. Vurduğu kişide hastanede ona refakat etmeye başladı. Bizi de ‘kaza masraflarını ödemen lazım, alacağım var senden, o yüzden yanındayım’ diye kandırdılar.

Aşağı yukarı işte dizi böyle başladı. Dizide tek sevdiğim şey yan rollerdi. Doktor beyefendi, kuaför hanımefendi, Kuaförün kızı ve arkadaşı hepsi çok keyifli karakterlerdi. Birkaç bölüm dizi abartı ama tatlı şerbet izlenebilir bir şekildeydi. Ne zaman ki, başrolümüzün liseli bir ergen olduğunu öğrendik, o zaman diziden jet hızı ile soğudum. Kadının büyük olması ilişkilerde çok takıldığım bir konu olmamasına rağmen çok gereksizdi. Adam kazık kadar görünüyor olmasını geçtim, ne gereği vardı. Hikâyeye hiçbir katkısı olmayan anlamsız bir detaydı.

Hele bir de kim olduğunu sakladıkça sakladı, mevzu sakız gibi uzadıkça uzadı. Kore dizilerinde eskiden tanışma, daha önce karşılaşmışız ama bilmiyormuşuzculuk, yine denk gelmişizler çok fazla çekiliyor, hepimiz görmüşüzdür. Bura da dizi ilerledikçe tesadüfler üzerine kurulmuş gibi hissetmeye başlıyorsunuz. Gelelim bu liseli bebenin neden kendi başına bir sürü işte çalışarak buralarda takıldığına… Küsmüş. Evet evet, ailesine küsmüş. Bir konuda fikir ayrılığı yaşamışlar. Evden kaçmış, küsmüş hepsine. Ben kendi ayaklarım üstünde duracağım demiş. Neden böyle yaptığına gelince senaristler kendilerince haklı bir neden bulmuşlar ve bu nedene sadece kendileri inanmışlar.

Gelelim dizinin son yarısına… Belli bir noktadan sonra dizi bütün o aşırı sevgi kelebeği hallerinden 3.sınıf kanal dizilerine dönüyor. Liseli konusunun üzerine durdukça duruyor. Yetmiyor, geçkin liselimiz Sunwoo Joon hasta çıkmasın mı!! Üniversite sınavına hazırlanıyorum bahanesi ile aylarca hastanede tedavi görmek için yatmasın mı!!
