So that spicy Thai food post. I've told this story before but I'm telling it again. One day, a couple years back, I woke up craving spicy foods. I'd always liked a little bit of heat but suddenly I woke up with a craving basically for ghost peppers. No idea why, but I needed the most insane heat imaginable immediately. Well, I went for it, and nothing was ever enough. Buffalo habanaro wings - not spicy enough. Pringles extra hot - not spicy enough. Takis - still not spicy enough. Eventually I just went to the local Thai restaurant and ordered a Pad Thai. They asked me my level. I said 10. The lady looked at me like I was nuts and told me to hold on. A moment later she returned with the manager, a kind lady who is looking at me with a very stern look of 'Miss you are WHITE' and telling me that she grew up in Thailand and can only handle a 7. I'm like, no, I want a 10, mess me up. So she agreed but told me they wouldn't remake it if it was too spicy, that one was on me. I got it, ate the whole plate, and when the manager came out and asked how it was, I said "could be spicier." She legit looked at me like I was insane. Anyway, I went home and 3 days later, my parents showed up with a 'prank' gift. A jar of ghost pepper nacho cheese dip. I shoved a chip in it and HEAVEN! FINALLY IT WAS SPICY ENOUGH. I ended up eating half the jar in a week before, one day, I woke up again, and didn't want spice anymore. I thought, that was weird, and went to eat some extra hot pringles but, NOPE, the desire for spice wasn't just gone, so was the ability to HANDLE it. From that day on, I was white person MILD. If I want a pad thai now, I'm getting a 2 at most. It's HORRID. I can't even eat medium salsa now. Anyway, that's the story of the "Summer of Spice" and how I used up the remainder of my lifetime spice allotment in one season like someone shooting off all their fireworks at once.

5. Favorite form of potato? Roasted. I especially enjoy patatas bravas at tapas restaurants because they come with red pepper sauce and aioli so it’s like grown up ketchup and mayo with fries.

9. Do you have a skincare routine? Yes I do, because my skin is dry af this winter and it hurts. I’ll do water or a mist, then hyaluronic acid (don’t put it on dry skin, kids! It’ll make things worse), then maybe serum and then face cream and sunscreen in the morning and face oil at night. It sounds like overkill but my skin dried up so bad. I never thought I’d miss having oily skin.

13. First thing you’re doing in the purge? Erasing everyone’s medical debt. I’d prepare beforehand obviously since I’m no hacker.

14. Do you think you’re dehydrated? No. I drink tons of water and it makes a huge difference. Now have some water, guys!

29. Favorite pasta noodle? Probably farfalle? Or gnocchi. Does gnocchi count? If it does then it’s gnocchi.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

First off, even though I was not at all sober enough to do so I read the first chapter IMMEDIATELY and then had to go to bed, then spend all of Monday thinking about how excited I was to re-read it and respond when I got the chance because this story has gripped me already.

Second, you had me from the get go. Delivering the heat from the jump, first chapter, just diving straight in??? I’m here. for. it.

Let’s get into it: the GAZING (I’m both uncomfortable and turned on by this, it’s a battlefield of emotions), the way he tries to trap us into cuddling afterwards, Joe waiting at the threshold for us like he can’t wait any longer, baiting us into practically attacking him, his little attempts at small talk (honestly, so cute), the prolonged kissing of bruises and fake injuries (!!!), the predictable within-our-comfort-zone sex that Joe knew we expected and needed while never pushing that boundary (we appreciate a man who knows not to pull stupid shit when all we’re looking for is a familiar and predictable good time), kissing as foreplay, GRINNING INTO THE KISS (the kind of soft moment I LIVE for)…

The looking at you after was one of those softer moments too. You were on your back and catching your breath as you stared up at the ceiling, and Joe was just sort of... staring at you. Slowly studying your face from the side, letting his eyes dance over your profile like he’d never seen it before.

Joe looked and looked and looked until you turned your head and he quickly looked away. Pretended he hadn’t been looking. Like peripheral vision wasn’t a thing.

“…Look at me like you mean it or keep your eyes closed.”

It earned a huff of laughter from Joe who now rolled over onto his side to watch without restriction. No hiding what he was doing.

…When you wanted soft touches and face-to-face sex where Joe forced eye-contact.

No.

Joe never forced anything.

But Joe would go, “hey,” real soft, would repeat it until you actually heard it, and it would make you look at him. Then he’d hold your gaze. Was very intense sometimes, especially if you were close and he held eye-contact right as he fucked you through it.

Your sister’s boyfriend had a birthday barbecue that you’d attend, and you needed to find a good cobbler to fix a shoe you’d broken in a mad dash for a tube replacement bus the other day but – no real plans.

Ok but when I read BBQ and cobbler in the same sentence, my American ass thought you meant cobbler like the dessert until I remembered that people who repair shoes are also called cobblers 😂 (so stupid). I also was very confused about the squash and water thing, literally imagining a slice of some sort of squash like butternut or spaghetti and wondering if this is a thing outside the States, and being so confused as to why anyone would put squash in their water unless they’re talking about watermelon or cucumber which I’m not even sure are part of the squash family?? Then I finally googled it and I’ve learned something new so thanks for that.

And finally… I’m not gonna lie, I melted a little when Joe set aside some leftovers especially for us, and then when he tried to ask us to hang out all awkward and hopeful and shit, then telling us to text him when we get home because if we don’t he’ll worry, making sure we come first (damn straight).

Like, this first chapter got me hook, line, and sinker and now I’m fiendish for mooorrrreee…

teaching americans about squash was not something i had on my bingo card for 2023 but, here we are!

23. do you wear jewelry?

Sometimes, but not consistently. I have some things that used to belong to my mom that I like. I also have some friends that make jewelry, so I've bought jewelry from them and wear it because I love it. But not regularly (maybe 1-2 times per month).

27. what’s your favorite or go-to outfit?

I like to wear my inside clothes, which is a loose pair of shorts and a long tank top that is partially tucked in to the waist. And my house slippers.

28. last meal on earth?

Umm well I could fucking destroy a sweet green chicken pesto parm bowl with broccoli and extra hot sauce, and I would die happy. Or maybe shakshuka with warm pita. Or maybe chana masala over rice with a side of roasted brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes in a balsamic glaze. OR my stepmom's roasted tomato basil pasta with breadcrumbs and arugula that fuckin SLAPS

Or maybe it wouldn't matter the food, but I get to sit with my best friends and feel absolutely loved.
