The way Taryn was slightly judging Jude for the mess in her room with Cardan's clothes mixed in, like, "Ok girl I see what else you are doing 🤨"

"Cardan stands over me. His jacket is thrown on a nearby chair, the velvet soaked through with some dark substance. His white sleeves are pulled up, and he's washing my hands with a wet cloth. Getting the blood off of them"- The Queen of Nothing (Ch. 17)
Can I talk about this scene for a moment, because it really shows how much Cardan loves Jude. Here is a man who had been raised as a spoiled, neglected, cruel prince, caring for a mortal girl. He is helping her when she is in pain, and he is by her side even though he is High King of the Fae, and she is an (though technically not anymore) exiled mortal. He could have easily called for a servant to clean her, he could have given her her own room, he could have left her side, left her to die on the table. But no, here he is, lowering him self to her side, abandoning all the egotistical ways of thinking he was taught, and doing such a simple action, however unfitting of a king, because he doesn't trust anyone else with her to do it right.

Reasons why Taryn is such a well written Anti-Hero:
SHE'S A TEENAGER. Taryn is at that "Prologue age" of 16-24 that literally means she doesn't know how to be specific in what she wants. She has hormones, She's not well versed in socializing, and has tons of insecurities that any teenager has. Nobody is really happy at the age of 16-24, and she probably hesitated on most of her decisions.
She is idealistic. That's why she felt guilty after she chose locke, because haha, the handsome guy isn't actually gonna solve all of your problems. At that age, who isn't delusional about their first real relationship??? She can't see the red flags because it never slapped her in the face. And jude was also Idealistic. Taryn chose the Class Clown, but Jude also chose the Hypocrite Prince. Glad both of them are dead.
Taryn is used to praise. She was the Extroverted sister. She wasn't that criticised or judged because she fit in. So when she makes a horrible mistake, she spiraled. Taryn betrayed her sister, and Jude helped her still. Madoc accepted Taryn because she was obedient to him. Oriana praised her more, so she felt more important than Jude. All of this further validated the fact that she doesn't really know the gravity of her choices, which she isn't emotionally equipped to shoulder. Everybody babied her decisions and forgave her. I mean, who ignores their twin sister after dating the guy she's been hanging out with??? Jude was so ready to forgive as long she apologized first?? Taryn is still immature.
In contrast to all of this, Jude embodies the characteristics of a Hero. She is NOT a hero because she is power hungry, ruthless, and vicious. BUT she chooses the much more beneficial options, disciplines herself to train, and relies on the strengths of others for help. She is Humble, she doesn't break easily, and she most definitely do not want validation from those people who look down on her. She's a really well-written morally grey villain that has the best heroic Characteristics.

Omg ur thoughts on my child oak EXPLOITING HIMSELF and sleeping with ppl that seem sus... JUDE AND CARDAN WHERE U AT MY POOR BOYYY
Is this something he does willingly and secretly (he seems to hate it obviously)
I was shocked and had to re-read the chapter to better process that.
Since the start of TSH, Oak has repeatedly expressed that being an heir is a terrible experience for him. He is always fighting to protect himself and his loved ones. He feels like a burden to his family. Think about it; his family was torn apart, the royal family was murdered, Jude and Madoc fought, Jude almost lost her life on many occasions including Cardan, and Heather and Vivi spent their first time living together "babysitting" him. He feels both responsible for everything and useless at the same time.
It sucks to learn that oak has been sexually exploiting himself to protect his loved one :( its very heartbreaking, and its shocking that Oriana, Jude, Vivi, or Taryn aren't aware of any of it. Are they even watching over him??? I know Jude assigned Tiernan as his personal guard...but mannn...does he suck at his job. NO HATE ON TIERNAN BTW, i adore him, and I know he's trying his best. But Tiernan has already failed two times to protect Oak. Even in The Stolen Heir there had been times where Oak had gotten hurt/injured from an attempted murder. Like the time he got cut in the throat by folk that wanted him to kill Jude and Cardan, or the time he got poisoned (and get this Jude and Cardan are NOT aware of that) I see Tiernan playing a big part in The Prisoner's Throne for many reasons, and I hope to find out how Jude decides to take the news on how Tiernan went back to Elfhame without Oak; the person he failed to protect. (We all know Jude will be absolutely furious with him) To answer your question, he's definitely doing this secretly and willingly, but he does it to protect his loved ones, including himself. It makes me sad how he had to go that FAR. If anything, i believe Jude and Cardan aren't aware of any of it because they have royal duties to attend to. The ONLY two people I will blame for Oak going this far is Tiernan and Oriana. Specially Oriana (love her too, im not attacking her, i promise) But where was she? How come during The Stolen Heir, Elfhame didn't noticed that Oak was missing? Does Oriana just let him freely go? Like I understand he's 17 but in TSH he was gone for a long time. You'd think Oriana would've found out that something was wrong during the time Oak left Elfhame. And Tiernan went against Jude command of going to save Madoc along Oak. Although I'm aware that Oak had other motives of doing what he did in TSH, and Holly has mentioned that there's a huge problem in Elfhame that us readers don't know about that set Oak in motion of doing what he did in TSH.
sigh....80 days until this book comes out. we have to hold on just a little longer (quietly sobs into pillow)

I just remembered that Balekin was the one who told Madoc where Jude and Taryn's mom was after she ran away from Elfhame. So Balekin's the reason Madoc took Jude, Vivi and Taryn back to Elfhame with him which indirectly caused Jude to kill Balekin all those years later. He would've still been alive if he weren't such a snitch lmao what a loser.

I wonder what Cardan and Taryn talked about in the Queen of nothing.
Was there a fight when they met in mortal world? I imagine they blamed each other for Jude being in danger. Something in the lines of:
“She wouldn’t end up taken by Madoc if you didn’t make her go in your stead!”
“If you hadn’t exiled her, I wouldn’t have to! You have always been cruel to us. Of course Madoc thought we needed to be saved from you!”
“Jude and I had a misunderstanding”
Later in the book, there are some hints of Cardan and Taryn having a beef. In chapter 20, for example, there is a scene in the dungeons of Hollow Hall.
“I will not go to my husband’s house until I am sure Jude isn’t in any danger,” she says.
“Jude and I had a misunderstanding,” Cardan says carefully. “But we’re not enemies.”

Unpopular Opinion, but Madoc was a good father. Time and again, Jude mentions how he did his best to be a father and give the girls everything he had. He raised them with the royals, taught them self-defense, and never silenced their grief. After Jude was forced to eat faerie fruit and was assaulted, he wanted to genuinely help her, to defend her and protect her. He was there for them when Oriana tried to dominate Jude or Taryn. This doesn't justify him killing Jude's parents but Jude herself mentions that his anger is unmatched; once it gets out of control, there is no stopping him.
Jude described their relationship as an uncomfortable kind of love which reminded me of the quote - "If you love me, Henry, you don’t love me in a way I understand." by Richard Siken.
He taught them how to protect themselves because he knew how scary the fae world can get for mortals (he was married to one). He did everything in his power to keep them safe, and the way to do that was to keep them with him. He just underestimated Jude's thirst for power and her desire to prove herself. If he and Jude worked together, they would have been unstoppable, but they were too different.

Locke trying to go back to Jude in the hollow hall revel EVEN after asking Madoc for Taryn's hand is so embarrassing.
"I admit, I am a little jealous to see Cardan parading you around on his arm." Bro?? You are LITERALLY ENGAGED!! Your future wife is standing RIGHT THERE.
