Protection Squad
@causeimanartist sorry this took so long I have like 5 WIP’s rn
Spending your days as a billionaire that takes canon fodder away from villains by offering potential henchmen jobs has made Bruce a target on more then one occasion.
It was fine, he could handle himself just fine, like the time some poor assassin had grabbed him from behind only to wake up a week later in hospital with no memory of the entire thing.
The problem was when somone publically declares they had their sights on him.
Funny how willing the entire police force is to work over time when it’s the local rich guy that funds half the city’s infrastructure is threatened.
Usually Bruce spends a few weeks in a dingy Gothem PD safe house having to make small talk with skittish officers and wait till somone eles saves the day.
It was torture.
So of course when mad hatter appeared on TV and said he planned to kill Bruce at midnight he was not going to spend his entire day with people he can’t stand playing nice.
“Get to Gothem I need some body guards for show”
That was all he needed to say for Clark and Diana to fly down mid press conference just in time for Bruce to assure everyone he would be fine.
The plan was to deal with Mad Hatter soon as the three of them were out of sight, unfortunately the hotel they chose was currently surrounded by the press and even Bruce couldn’t find a way out.
“On the bright side you get to hang out with us” Clark smiles as he closed the blinds on a particularly determined photographer.
“While I’m always happy to catch up this isn’t exactly what I had in mind” Bruce sighed drumming his fingers on the desk he had claimed as his work station.
He had spent the last two hours combing through possible leads and so far had come up with nothing.
“Well we could always make out a little” Diana suggested with a shrug. She was just as bored as Bruce.
Unlike Clark who could spend days in one place not really doing anything the other two were already going stir crazy.
Bruce looked tempted for a moment, a slight blush creeping onto his cheeks before he cleared his throat and made a big show of turning back to his work.
“I just need to figure out Hatters game. And why me.”
“Erm your a billionaire and public face of Gotham.” Clark supplied.
“Yeah but going after public figures isn’t Hatters style, he settles personal grudges and I havnt done anything to piss him off.”
Clark and Diana exchanged a look which made Bruce bristle “not as Batman.”
“Maybe it’s about Wayne tech then? Has your company done anything that could set him off?” Clark asked literally hovering over Bruce’s shoulder to look at the screen.
Clark may have been a super powered alien and one hell of a reporter but he had no fucking clue what Bruce was looking at.
It just seemed like a huge list of sprawling random numbers and letters.
“That’s what I thought, I started by combing through the personal expense accounts of board memebers where they ussually hide fishy percheses but other then the usual prostitues nothing illegal”
“Your ok with members of the board getting prostitues?” Clark asked raising an eyebrow.
“As long as their respectful to them yeah I don’t give a fuck. Besides I’ve hired a good chunk of them, Katie down in public relations can speak seven languages and now gets health care.” Bruce shrugged missing the jealous expressions that crossed the others faces.
They knew Bruce wasn’t exactly the play boy he pretended to be.
Hell as far as they knew the only reason he wasn’t a virgin was cause Talia and Catwoman got there first.
It didn’t change the fact that whenever they heard stories about him with hordes of women a red hot jealousy burned in their guts making them want to slam him against the wall and remind him who really loves him.
The pair were pulled out of said thoughts by Bruce letting out a honestly pretty cute “ah ha”.
“What is it?” Diana asked joining Clark in the hovering.
“It wasn’t under the table that’s why it took me so long to find it. Honesty is hard to find these days.” He chuckled as he pointed at a news article from a couple of weeks ago.
A local theatre had burnt down and the Thomas and Martha Wayne foundation pledged to rebuild it.
That was easy to ignore as just another charitable even the company did.
The problem was that it pulled all the publicity was another local theatre that was doing a production of Alice in Wonderland.
Looking through the advertisement Bruce could see that it was clearly a trap made by Hatter that failed because no one bothered to go.
“He blames me for his last plan failing. I bet the Batmobil he’s in the theatre.”
“Ok I’ll tell the commissioner Batman told us where to find him and go pick him up.”
Clark headed for the door only to be met with a crowd of flashing lights.
It was so bright everyone in the room overed their eyes.
There were sounds of a scuffle but Clark and Diana couldn’t see anything.
“Please turn off the flash” Clark said as the lights continued with no click...
No click of the cameras mechanism...
Clark was around cameras all day he knew what they were supposed to sound like and this wasn’t it.
He took in a deep breath and blew into the crowd sending them scattering to the other side of the hallway.
The strange thing was that even with the cameras knocked out of their hands they continued to press an imaginary button.
Cold dread settled into Clark’s stomach when he realised they were all under mind control.
He quickly turned round to see Diana rubbing her eyes and Bruce lying of the floor.
“Bruce!” Clark yelled as he sped over hands hovering in terror.
Diana gently pushed him to the side as she rolled Bruce over.
There was a gash on his forehead sluggishly leaking blood but his eyes were quickly flickering open.
He looked up at Clark and Diana’s worried faces and gave him a crooked smile.
The kind that only they were allowed to see and no one else.
“Don’t be mad but I figured this would happen.”
“Did you use yourself as bait?!” Diana let go of him and let him flop harmlessly back to the floor.
Bruce let out a soft groan as he gestured to the unconscious Mad Hatter on the other side of the bed.
“I figured if we didn’t find out where he was he would come himself. Especially with the entire of Gotham talking about where I was hiding out.” Bruce pulled himself to his feet and pulled a pair of hand cuffs out of god knows where and secured Hatter.
“Ok but how did you take him out when we couldn’t even see.” Clark asked already picking up the phone to call the police for a pick up.
Bruce just smirked at them knowingly “because I’m Batman.”
The next hour was spent with the police dealing with Hatter and his victims.
After the camera incident they decided having any media around was a security risk and had them clear out.
Bruce had managed to avoid going to the hospital mainly thanks to having fucking Superman flutter around his injury like a mother hen.
The officers found it kinda funny how nervous the superhero’s were around their little billionaire.
Almost made them feel proud.
The trio were eventually dismissed and assumed to have gone their separate ways.
Which was the plan until Bruce grabbed the two super strong hero’s and pulled them into a empty utility closet like they were kittens.
The following make out session more then made up for the stress of the day.
Right up until one officer wearing a body cam opened the door to see the three wrapped up together.
It bought Gotham PD a few new squad cars and a coffee maker to keep that footage from being leaked.
Alfred did however still manage to get a copy and laughs about it whenever he can.
One good thing did come out of the situation though.
Whenever Bruce Wayne was publicly threatened the police saw no reason to step in.
After all when your banging Earth most powerful superhero’s who needs protection duty.
They did feel bad for Batman though...
Poor guy must feel like such a third wheel.

Annual BAU Vacation Headcanons
I had the idea, and now here come the headcanons.
Okay so to go on vacation as the entire BAU is pretty risky. They’d need to stay somewhere that’s practically a safe house because of all the crazy people who want them dead.
Lucky for them, Penelope knows a guy.
Aka her great uncle’s cousin’s best friend’s cabin.
It’s so far removed from her that it’s the perfect place to relax as a team for the week. Not to mention that she decked out the place in all the tech needed to protect them the first year that they went.
Okay, so, when she says “cabin,” some people are more excited than others. But this cabin is not exactly a little cabin in the woods.
It’s essentially a personal mountain lodge.
When Pen tells everyone to bring swimsuits, the team assumes that their swimming options will be limited to a river or a lake or something like that.
Nope.
The “cabin” has a heated pool and a good-sized hot tub.
Imagine like a gorgeous mountain lodge on private property.
Yep. That’s what it is.
Okay, so, the team piles into a van and Hotch drives with Rossi directing because they’re such dads.
Hotch even pulls out a “I will turn this van around!” when Derek and Penelope gang up on Spencer, who is squished between them, by attempting to find his most ticklish spot.
And he’s only half joking.
When they arrive at the cabin, it’s off to unpack and begin the week of relaxation.
Emily and JJ immediately hit the hot tub. Don’t interrupt them unless if it’s to bring them drinks and/or food, because they plan to be in there until they’re prunes.
Rossi is unanimously tasked with cooking all the meals during vacation. The first night, he becomes grill master with Hotch as his assistant, of course.
Derek attempts to teach Spencer some lawn games, such as horseshoes, ladderball, and bocce. Spence kinda sucks at horseshoes and bocce, but finds he has a strange talent for ladderball.
Of course, that means they play ladderball over and over again.
Penelope is perfectly content to walk around with a camera and take pictures of the team at their most relaxed. She’ll join in on the games and hot tubbing eventually, but her dedication to the “annual BAU vacation video” takes precedence.
When it gets dark out, they have a campfire. S’mores is a favorite of literally everyone and even though Spencer gets distracted when he rambles and burns nearly every marshmallow, Emily likes them burnt and will purposely get hers to a golden brown so she can trade Spencer when the time comes.
They might end the day there, but some nights they might watch a movie, with JJ, Rossi, and Derek nodding off by the end.
One night during their week is the annual board and card game tournament all-nighter.
It’s exactly what it sounds like. They line up a series of games and just play until the sun comes up, drinking liters of caffeinated soda and thriving on coffee at three AM.
Hotch usually wins. They’ve been doing this for years and the only two people to ever beat him were Emily and Spencer, each once.
They also usually omit poker from the game lineup, much to both Emily and Spencer’s dismay.
Nearly every morning, Rossi will wake up before most of the team and make a big pancake breakfast/brunch.
He wears an apron that they found at the cabin the first year they went. It’s a quilted purple floral ruffled number, but he claimed it as his own. It’s tradition, and he wears it proudly.
Some nights, against the general better judgement, they break out the booze.
Some people have a high tolerance for alcohol. JJ has an impressively high ability to hold her liquor.
Other people, namely Spencer and Penelope, unsurprisingly do not have quite as high of a tolerance.
Penelope just gets a little overzealous in how much she thinks she can handle, and Spencer just doesn’t drink much.
So they both essentially become children after a few drinks.
“oH MY god DeReK LET’S GO SKINNY DIPPING. In the pool. It’s dark out! NO ONE WILL SEE US.”
“Baby girl, I don’t think that’s such a good idea. Why don’t you stay here with the rest of us?”
“SPENCER, you’ll go skinny dipping with me, right? PLEASE?”
“THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA GARCIA —“
“Alright, you two. Come here, sit down... Reid, are you really sitting in my lap?”
“No, I’m on the floor.”
“I’m pretty sure you’re in my lap, Pretty Boy.”
“Oh. I thought this was the floor.”
“IT’S SO HOT IN HERE I’M WEARING TOO MANY CLOTHES!”
“Penelope, no!”
The team should feel guilty that they let Derek attempt to corral the two of them, but it’s too amusing for them to care.
JJ takes over as photographer/videographer when Penelope’s out of commission.
The next morning, Rossi’s favorite hangover cure is delivered to each bedroom. Some need it more than others.
At the end of the vacation, they take a group picture and Penelope adds that to the end of the video, then they all sit around and watch it. They also randomly pick a previous year’s video to watch just for the memories.
Oh, I forgot to mention. They all have matching t-shirts.
They’re the iconic printed “BAU Family Vacation 20__” ones.
And they wear them proudly.
If you have any more BAU Vacation headcanons, feel free to comment on or reblog this post to add them! If you send them to my ask box, I will add you to the master list and credit you as well!

February 2020
I managed to use my iPad as a second monitor for my computer. So tech savvy. Yay me!
Joking about developing a sex-based cardio programme with Manu. Powerfucking! Might help against aggression as well.
A late night phone call with Tom. Not saying much.
Making a huge pot of my grandmother’s signature veggie stew.
More Bon Appétit test kitchen videos. Chris recreating tacos. Claire making Ben&Jerry’s. Priya making her mum’s Indian curries.
Writing a letter to Lena. Drawing upside down bats (which makes them look like they’re having a wicked dance-off). Just the act of writing. I thoroughly enjoy looking at my handwriting.
Using the Salted Coconut handscrub by Lush. Especially now that I wash my hands so often when we’re working with clay at school. I feel like the peeling triggers some pressure points on my palms.
That Saturday productivity high. Cooking and preparing heaps of stuff, cleaning the windows, doing laundry.
Painting my nails like an expressionist artist.
Some portrait studies. Accidentally drawing Sirius Black.
Being really motivated to improve my Spanish. Working with Lorena, the Duolingo app and even starting my own grammar/vocabulary book.
This ultra quirky ASMR video. Also: watching videos with Erin an her boyfriend Chris. It’s amazing how well they work together. How you can almost feel their connection, how similar they are.
Carrot cake oats.
Seeing the The Darkness live again, this time with Margit. Justin’s outfit and personality, singing along, especially to Time of my Life, the band’s traditional first song after the show.
Meeting Chris. Having a Bramblette cocktail at Pusser’s. I like that place. Feels very old-timey with a rowing boat right under the ceiling. We made out in front of a tiger slide in a toy store window on our way to the next bar.
Peeling fresh carrots.
Pickling onions and making kimchi. My fermentation game is strong these days!
Looking through Dominik’s sketchbook. I loved the tree whose bark resembled a mole burrow with its underground tunnel system.
The flu. Yes, really. Fewer pupils at school. Quiet times. I’m actually surprisingly healthy. I’d guess my probiotics must play a role here… Who knows.
More sourdough experiments. Writing about it (DELICACY - a haiku. Oven-warm sourdough / salted butter, alpine cheese / and a strawberry).
Finding a really interesting list of SanFran hippie era book recommendations at the end of Robin Sloan’s Ajax Penumbra: 1969. In the mood to read Maya Angelou, Tom Wolfe, Jack Kerouac, Richard Brautigan.
Even more beautiful books: I really enjoyed Die weiße Stadt by Karolina Ramqvist, a feminist author from Sweden, and the graphic novel version of To Kill a Mockingbird. But two books that literally (well, figuratively obviously) blew my mind were Circe by Madeline Miller (mythology, loneliness, animals and plants, magic and monsters, some desperate kind of feminism, independence and strength) and Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (magical realms, university setting, psychological depth, unexpected twists and turns). I haven’t read anything comparable in a very long time and I desperately hope that there’s more to come from these authors.
A beach collecting all the world’s single socks in The Magicians. Oh and of course seeing them break the moon. What a sight. The show is super confusing, obnoxious and absolutely fabulous at the same time. Best example: the Freaky Friday szene in which Margo and Eliot switch bodies. I love how the actors took on each other’s speech patterns and behaviour.
A new addition to my colour vocabular: celadon (a greyish green; there is a type of ceramics you’ll only see in this colour which is not surprising since the shade provides such an interesting contrast to the the earthy, rusty orange of burnt clay.)
Manu telling me that he had rarely seen people with more joy in their eyes than me (“Ich habe schon Freude in deinen Augen gesehen! So ein Leuchten kann man nicht simulieren.”) after complaining about being bored and lifeless. / Making curry with or, well, for him the other night. Drinking Liqueur 43 with cinnamon and milk. Playing the Jackbox party games for which you can use your phone as a controller.
Finding myself in a well-known sitation from the past. Lying in Frank’s bed in the early morning hours, not that tired yet, when he starts talking about his life and his depression. In English, obviously, because that’s our emotional filter. Relating, since I feel quite similar. Coming up with a suggestion for a reciprocal support system. Let’s see what we can do for each other.
Looking at travel photographs. The sea, the cenotes. Longing to go back to Mexico or Australia. Diving. Taking it all in.
Dreaming of my grandmother talking about her biggest regrets in life. Weirdly she was in a little bundle under a coffee table, much like Voldemort in the last Harry Potter movie.
My weird, weird brain. How both pleasure and pain enhance my sense of smell and increase my brain activity, almost causing hallucinations and fixations on ideas. Like geometric shapes in gloomy off-colours and a beige silicon-like surface the other night. All I could think of was a benchscraper.
Blue eyeliner.
Brainstorming three-letter-words with Frank since I’m thinking of getting personalised Nike Blazers. Sad cat. Yes but. Dat ass. Why tho.
Flying squirrels. Watching them wobble through the air. How they look like cute exhibitionist when they’re extending their limbs and thus stretching their, well, let’s just call it wings.
The fact that red cabbage has an intricate pattern like brain convolutions when you cut it open.
Talking to Sonja for the first time in over two years. What a strange person. Interesting, too. At least in homeopathic doses.
Ripe strawberries and nectarines. Oh my god. I love fruit.
Meeting Eve at Pub Quiz. She identifies as female, loves swing dance, used to be an animator and I love her style. Also, I realised that really like Betty. And Dennis wasn’t mean to me for once. I love my nerd friends <3 And I learned that Starbucks was named after the first mate in Moby Dick! Also, coincidentally they asked a question about the city where To Kill a Mockingbird takes place (Maycombe, Alabama) after I had read it the week before.
Inviting Lorena to the Botanical Gardens. I always feel very happy and very much myself when I’m there. I sometimes wish I was a gardener. Lorena was late so I walked along the Spring Path outside and it might have been the first time I’ve seen a brussels sprouts plant. Inside I learned lots of Spanish words and marveled at the incredible butterflies. The huge yellow one right behind the entrance was my favourite. Its delicate feelers were fascinating.
Washing my hands at the Keg’s bathroom. Looking into the mirror. Suddenly thinking of the perfect karaoke song… Rescue Me by Bell Book and Candle! I kept singing it for days on repeat. My neighbour must hate me (nothing new here) especially since my voice is too low for the chorus.
It isn’t hard to see how such attachment patterns can undermine mental health. Both anxious and avoidant coping have been linked to a heightened risk of anxiety, depression, loneliness, eating and conduct disorders, alcohol dependence, substance abuse and hostility. The way to treat these problems, say attachment theorists, is in and through a new relationship. On this view, the good therapist becomes a temporary attachment figure, assuming the functions of a nurturing mother, repairing lost trust, restoring security, and instilling two of the key skills engendered by a normal childhood: the regulation of emotions and a healthy intimacy. // An interesting article on attachment styles and why theraphy works; it makes me want to learn more about attachment theory. This School of Life video is a nice addition as well.
That dream. About a book shop modeled after my picture of Penumbra’s 24-hour bookstore. There was an old man in a very narrow but high-ceilinged room full of books. There was no light source except for moonlight or some street lights. There were loads of stairs, very steep, leading to the back of the house. Upstairs the man would set out cat food and on the rooftop there was an old sailing boat. One day the man decided to open the door to the roof and let visitors see the ship, much like a museum; perhaps to attract customers. However, in the next night a cat-shaped ghost appeared who reminded me quite a lot of Kot Behemoth character in Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. The ghost was not amused about the old man’s decision and took away his key, a big golden one adorned with a red ribbon.
Toasted sesame makes pretty much every dish so much better.
Watching High Fidelity with gorgeous Zoe Kravitz (I adore her effortless style and her outfits), getting in the mood for making a playlist and listening to more music in general. There are all these great songs out there I forgot about.
Remembering the xkcd storm chaser comics.
Making a wicked good batch of Pho for Tom.
Spending a nice evening with Alex at Shamrock. Singing along to American Boy by Estelle. Confirming the hypothesis that the nerdy, quiet ones usually have a freak streak. That moment in the morning. Eye contact and kegel exercises.
Karaoke with Margit and Betty. Meeting Manu’s doppelganger. Same type, looks, voice. Eerie.
Making a BA Gourmet Makes meme for Steffen after he had passed his law examps. Strangely Gaby kinda looked like him after I was done with it.
Saturday morning in bed. Reading comics and graphic novels. Fresh bedclothes, surrounded by books. Since it was February 29 I thought about leap years and asked a few friends what their inner seven-year-old would have done that day (based on the thought experiment that your birthday was on February 29 and you’d age in 4-year-steps which would divide your age by 4 obviously).
I came up with: visiting grandma / eating Cini-Minis / falling asleep with my face buried in a cat / beating my neighbour Anna at Memory / drawing while listening to a Bibi Blocksberg cassette.
Alex said he’d have been outside all day, building a snow igloo. Not noticing his mum telling him to come to dinner. If the weather had been bad he would have played with his dinosaur collection. His inner 7-year-old was a hopeless dreamer who got agitated whenever his parents had a fight. Who came home late from school every day because he forgot about time when he was talking to his friend next to a hedge with thorns that looked like tiny airplanes.
Lena said she would have been outside all day long, playing in the mud with the neighbours’ kids. Of course.

@cptsrogers -  finding steve on ice
Tumblr media
There’s a trip down memory lane.  For a moment, it’s hard to believe how long ago that’s been, how young they all were the day the Avengers found the fabled Captain America in the ice while on the search for the Hulk.  He hasn’t, necessarily, thought about it recently, but it’s an easy memory to dig out, like flipping to a favorite page in a photo album.
“Oh, that day.”  It’s a question he’s been asked many times, in many interviews - and he knows Steve has as well, though he can’t remember anything specific right off hand - and when he rolls his eyes, it’s with a certain kind of fondness.  “Yeah, I remember that day, it was practically dumb luck we saw that hunk of ice in the water and decided to haul it aboard.  See...We’d been looking for the Big Guy - long story - and instead of Mean Green we ended up picking up the Star Spangled Man With A Plan like...Like a frozen hitchhiker.”
He can remember the sound of the water dripping from the block of ice while Steve had thawed and the way it made puddles on the floor.  Could remember the moment Jan - super tiny doing her Wasp thing - had gotten close enough to him to let the others know - babies, every last one of them, at this hero business, him and her and Hank and Thor - that their “guest” was breathing.  The shock of the realization of seeing the shield over his chest and the red, white, and blue uniform under old fashioned olive drab fatigues so tattered they’d fallen to rags under it.  Clothes he’d only seen in recruitment posters and black and white photographs.
“It’s kinda funny, in a way.  No, not funny.  Weird for me, at the time, I guess.  This guy’s been in the ice a literal lifetime, and I don’t...I don’t know what we were really thinking, you know?  What we were gonna do with him because logic states a guy in a big block of ice is not gonna be alive when you thaw him out like meat out of the freezer.”  Steve had awoken quicker than any of them had expected, he thinks, once they’d realized he was breathing, and his face had been full of fear and anguish until he snapped to, actually focused on what was in front of him.  “You know, I’ve never asked Steve what he thought about us.  Guy wakes up like that and finds himself looking at a metal man, a tiny flying woman, a guy that’s standing ten foot tall - at least - and some longhaired pretty boy in a viking costume.  That must have been surreal as hell.”
Tony had been the first person Steve had spoken to, once he’d realized he wasn’t where he’d thought he was.  He taps at the rim of his coffee mug a moment (’YOUR STUPID’ is printed on the side, the letters starting to fade from many trips through the dishwasher over several years - it’s one of his favorites, just the right size and weight), considering.  “Back then, we didn’t have a real leader, you know, it was...It was me and Jan and Hank and Thor - and for a while, Bruce.  We were small, nothing like we’ve been since.  We were..All there was - it was all still really new.  I mean, come on, I was still running around pretending I wasn’t actually me.  And we had these...Rules in place.  We didn’t pry.  We kept our noses out of everyone’s personal business.  We had our private identities we didn’t share.  And it wasn’t...Steve and Tony weren’t Steve and Tony yet.”
What Steve and Tony meant...Well, that depends on who you ask at this point.  Tony likes to use the word friends, it’s a simple, effective away to get it across, but there’s more to it than that.  He’s not sure if he knew it that day, that when Steve finally got his bearings and took a good look at the guy in the gold and red suit (and God, he’d had that open helmet at the time, with the little plexiglass eye shields that came down - none of the fancy optical sensors and cameras he uses now, and Steve had been able to look him square in the eyes that first time; there’s an argument to be made, maybe that his suits have evolved the way they have not just because tech progresses and he’s supposed to be leading that pack, but because it effectively hides his face completely now) just what that was going to mean, but it was- “It was one of those things.  You know, you meet people and you feel like you’ve known them your whole life even if it’s been, like, five minutes.  And I don’t...I don’t mean that mystical woo-woo bullshit Stephen talks about, I mean...You just click.  It was like that.  We clicked.  And we invited him in.”
He leans forward, bracing an elbow on the desk.  “And don’t tell him I said this?  Because really the last thing I want is that smug little look he gets on his face, okay, you don’t know the one but I do and I-  Anyway, there was no question, I don’t think.  About inviting him in.  To the Avengers, I mean.  I mean, can you imagine an all-encompassing Avengers group existing without Steve Rogers and his saying the A-words?  I can’t, and I was in the Avengers before Steve.”
This doesn’t remotely touch on the all the times he and Steve have been at odds.  Or the time Steve-  He drags his mind right away from that rabbit hole of guilt, grief, and self-loathing.  That’s not what this is about.  This is about the first time, about finding him in the ice.  “I’m glad he decided to stick around, is what I mean.”
send ⏳ for some tony backstory

List of AUs
Since y’all really seemed to like my Cross-Time Doctors AU, I might as well share the list of all the AUs I’ve come up with thus far!
If any of the AUs interest you, just pop an ask in my inbox sharing the name of it and I can go into detail of it!
Some AUs are more creative than others. XD
[Under a cut because long list is long]
Cross-Time Doctors AU - [Post] Pidge and Lance are doctors of different times that become connected through death.
Galra Prisoners AU Lance, Keith, and Pidge become prisoners of the Galra Empire and forge strong, essentially romantic bonds with one another as they question if they’re ever going to get rescued.
Dance Competition AU Pidge and Lance are old friends that end up in a Dance Competition TV Show and end up partnered up with Keith and Allura respectively as both groups compete for the prize.
Hockey AU Focuses on the struggles of the hockey team “The Voltron Lions” as they not only work to beat their rivals, “The Daibazaal Galras,” but also as they try to figure out the strange feelings that have formed between Team Captain Shiro and his right-hand man, Keith.
Long Distance AU - [Post] Friends separated by distance and joined by things like Skype and Discord, our beloved Team Voltron is now a bunch of friends scattered around the world.
Ghost Adventures AU The title says it all! Some of the members of Team Voltron have been placed into the roles of Team Ghost Adventures. Spooky shit shall occur!
Greek Mythology AU An AU that Tama helped me create, Lance is a mermaid/siren that falls in love with a Forest Nymph (Pidge). The Nymph’s friends a centaur (Shiro), a satyr (Hunk), a fellow nymph (Allura), and a male harpy (Keith) are not too pleased with this arrangement.
Karakuri AU Loosely based off of the Karakuri Series, Lance and Shiro are officers in the Altean Army. When the Altean’s greatest enemy, The Galra, create new cyborg/superhuman weapons to take them down, Lance will have to come face to face with an old friend while Shiro will have to encounter a man he met while imprisoned.
Soulmate Dream AU - [Fic] Soulmates share the same dreamscape as one another and can meet and interact in it but will only remember the location when they wake up. Turns out, Pidge and Lance are Soulmates.
Photographer + Programmer AU Two college students with different studies, Lance and Pidge’s worlds collide with help from their mutual friend, Hunk. Soon, they’ll learn to see the world through each other’s eyes.
Split Mind AU - [Post] Somehow, Pidge’s mind gets split across five different realities! As she suffers from the new memories from these different realities, she finds herself clinging to the one constant throughout all of them, Lance.
MS AU Pidge suffers from MS while Lance stays by her side through it all.
Dancer Pidge AU Pidge is just your average college student with a colorful group of friends but she just is harboring a little secret. She just so happens to be a dancer at a rather interesting place. And, no, as she’ll say herself, she’s not a stripper.
WWII AU When Pidge’s brother enlists to fight in such a deadly war, Pidge disguises herself as a boy so he won’t go into the fight alone. However, she didn’t count on meeting Lance.
Pacific Rim (+ Uprising) AU Shiro was once a famous a famous Jaeger Pilot with his brother Kuron. However, after losing his brother and going into hiding, he is called back to service by Marshal Kolivan. There he meets Kolivan’s adoptive daughter, Allura. A powerful, yet naïve female, a bond is soon formed between them in this war.
Years after the war against the Galra was believed to be over, a new threat rises. Keith, another child of Kolivan’s who turned to a life of black market dealings after leaving the Jaeger Program, encounters a skilled hacker and mechanic by the name of Pidge who needs Jaeger parts for her self-made Jaeger, Rover. The encounter soon leaves the two arrested and with a choice: Join the Jaeger Program, or face prison time.
Pacific Rim Voltron AU An AU where everything is the same in the Voltron verse, however, the way the team pilots Voltron when it’s in the giant robot form is the same as how Jaeger Pilots pilot the Jaegers. Basically, their whole bodies are put to use.
Oblivion AU(s) Based on the movie, Lance/Shiro is Tech 49 on a Post-Apocalyptic Earth being guided by Allura and Honnerva (nicknamed Haggar) during his day to day tasks. That is until Pidge/Keith crash land on Earth and everything changes.
Edge of Tomorrow AU Can be seen two different ways as either Shiro being Bill and Keith being Rita or the reverse, but no matter the case, it’s up to them to save humanity from aliens that can manipulate time like a video game.
1950’s AU It’s the 1950′s and there’s nothing like a ragtag group of friends and mixed up feelings! Love is in the air in this diner hangout~
Drama Production AU Team Voltron does drama?! What kind of shenanigans will that ensue?!
Magic AU Modern-day witches and wizards tasked with protecting humanity from not only dark supernatural beings but also other witches and wizards? What could go wrong?
Dance Team AU That’s right! Team Voltron is now a Dance Team competing in competitions! Time to get the groove on~
Hamilton AU You can pretty much guess what this is. It’s my take on it though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Youtubers AU Pidge and Lance run a Gaming Youtube Channel together and all sorts of silly things occur! They aren’t the only ones on Youtube though~
Extreme Stunts AU Based off of videos filmed by devinsupertramp on Youtube, Shiro and Keith have a strong taste for adventure along with the rest of their friends and set off to film their adventures as they travel around the world doing all sorts of crazy things!
Star Wars AU Not based exactly on the movies but taking place in the same universe, Team Voltron is a ragtag group of rebels doing whatever they can to fight against the Empire.
Gods and Goddesses AU Gods and Goddesses of the Elements and the people of Earth, our dear Paladins have a lot to deal with. (This has been done to death.)
Seasons AU Pidge, Lance, Keith, and Shiro are the actual embodiments of the seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Managing entire seasons can be rather stressful.
Sven’s Verse AU - [ Plangst Story ] Basically my take on what’s going on in Sven’s Universe. Plance angst and Sheith fluff are very present there.
New Champion AU A different take on Voltron’s story where Pidge was also on the Kerberos Mission with her family and Shiro. While Shiro escaped, her brother was rescued, and her father was sent off to a work camp, Pidge was forced to become the Galra’s Champion to replace Shiro. She doesn’t disappoint.
Tron AU Kinda based on Tron: Legacy, Shiro goes missing for several years until Keith ends up at the arcade he was last spotted in. After being transported into a video game, he has to learn how to survive with the help of a couple of odd characters and the very man he’s been looking for.
Actors AU Yup. This is exactly what everyone else is doing. “What would happen if Voltron was Live Action and not animated?!”
Special Class AU A High School AU where all members of Team Voltron end up in a rather unique class that doesn’t exactly follow what the rest of the school is like.
Parasyte/Tokyo Ghoul AU Loosely based off of these two animes, Pidge and Keith become infected with a strange disease that gives them unique powers and abilities. Sadly, while they plan on using these powers for good, the others of their kind aren’t as nice and Pidge and Keith find themselves needing to protect those they care about.
Superhero AU Yup. Basic idea. Team Voltron as superheroes. Not like anyone has done that before. XD
Aerialists AU Team Voltron is a bunch of aerial artists in training. They all have different skills and different interests but maybe special connections can be formed?
Mental Reincarnation AU Remembering things from another life sucks, especially when you get the memories randomly. What shall our former Paladins do as they slowly remember the events of Voltron?!
Soulmate Voltron AU Legends say that only Soulmates can pilot the mighty Voltron. So, what do our Paladins do when they find out they’re able to pilot it?
Cosplayers AU Team Voltron is your average cosplayers that have grouped up to make some pretty amazing cosplays. They like to compete at cons.
Hanahaki Disease AU Pidge has a crush on Lance but he doesn’t feel the same way. God, does it suck to cough up these petals...
Dark Woods Circus AU Pretty much an AU based on the Vocaloid song. More torture for my poor beans~
Suasoculi AU - [Post] Pidge has been as Suassie for as long as she can remember, refusing to use the benefits of being one. However, when she meets a fellow Suassie by the name of Keith, she is tossed into a battle that she was never prepared for.
Year Walk AU Based on a short, old horror game based on Norse Mythology. A fic is in a WIP.
This list is always being updated as I think of more ideas. XD

crossfire: volume i - chapter 11
a/n ahhhh life is so hard and i’m soooo behind on chicago pd but here’s another chapter for y’all           & previous chapters can be found here
☆ grief like that is in the small print ☆
“Hey, kid,” Burgess said as she entered the break room. “How are you doing?”
Avery groaned. “You mean aside from the fact that I’ve been sat in this boring room for hours and have resorted to rating each of the beams on the ceiling out of ten for how well they’d take my weight?” she said darkly.
Burgess frowned. “I don’t …”
“See, in order to hang yourself,” Avery began, and the look of horror on the cop’s face made the boredom almost worth it.
“You know, I actually meant about the other stuff. Luca. Erin.”
Avery swallowed. “So what’s the deal with that?” she asked.
“The deal with what?”
“Erin. And Voight.”
Burgess screwed her face up slightly. “I don’t want to betray her trust…” she started.
“It’s okay. She already told me that he helped her out when she was my age. I just want to know from what. And what happened after that.”
“You want to know if it’ll be the same for you?”
Avery just shrugged. She didn’t need to respond – Burgess already knew that the answer was yes.
“Listen, all I know is that every time there’s a kid in here on the wrong side of the law, Erin gets that same look on her face. As you may have noticed, she isn’t the most open of people. But I know for a fact – everyone in the unit knows – that every time she loses someone it’s more than a fight for her to come out the other end.”
“Like Justin and Lexi?” Avery asked.
At the sharp intake of breath Burgess gave at the sound of their names, Avery backtracked.
“I’m sorry. They’re in the photo.” She gestured at the corkboard. “Erin told me about them earlier, that they both died a couple of years ago.”
Burgess nodded, remembering Erin crying into her shoulder after Justin’s death, and comforting Al when Lexi had died.
“How?”
She snapped out of her thought. “How what?”
“How did they die?”
“I’m – I’m not sure that’s really my place to…”
“Oh, come on, Burgess –”
“You can call me Kim, you know. I’m only Burgess to my coworkers and when we’re in the interrogation box.”
“Okay. Come on, Kim. I’m so bored in here.”
Burgess sighed. “Okay. Fine – fine! Justin…Justin was trying to help a friend get out of a sticky situation, and he was murdered for it. Erin and Voight found him in the trunk of his car with a bullet hole in his head and barbed wire wrapped around him.”
“Oh my God,” Avery breathed. “That’s – that’s so awful. I’m so sorry.”
Burgess nodded grimly. “Yeah. It was. The only thing that kept Erin going through that, I’m pretty sure, was the fact that she had Jay.”
In spite of herself, Avery smiled slightly. “And what happened to Lexi?”
“Lexi…Lexi was in college when she died. She was at a party in an old warehouse, and a complete psycho locked the kids in there and torched the place.”
“I heard about that,” Avery said. “I mean, I was only a kid –” Burgess raised her eyebrows, indicating that in her eyes, Avery was still very much a kid, “—when I heard about it, but one of the other kids at this care home I was staying at was at that party.”
“Thirty two young adults were killed that day. One of them as good as one of our own. There wasn’t a single dry eye in the bullpen when we found out that Lexi had died in surgery. We’d all watched that kid grow up.”
Her voice, like Erin’s, began to grow tight and thick. Even years later, they still couldn’t quite get over something as profound as losing someone who was like their little sister.
“I’m sorry, Kim. I didn’t mean to bring back old memories; I just wanted to know why…”
Burgess shook her head again. “No, it’s okay. I want people to know what happened to them. They died heroes, trying to help other people. And besides, grief like that is in the small print when you sign up at the academy. God knows this unit has seen its fair share of deaths.”
Avery looked shocked. “There were more?”
Burgess smiled sadly. “Come on,” she beckoned her. “I think you should see this.”
Several minutes later, the cop and the young girl were stood outside the district, facing the plaques that were lined up over the wall. Burgess remembered trying to get Nadia’s memorial stone printed, and how much effort Platt had been to in order to do so. Tears stung her eyes as the grief of that day came back and hit her again.
“Brian T Strousser,” Avery read. “Richard J O’Brien. William J Luce. Julie B Willhite. Sheldon Jin. Nadia Decotis…who were they? Did you know any of them?” she couldn’t explain where her sudden curiosity was coming from. She’d hated cops her whole life – or at least, once she’d realized that Detective Lindsay’s words about “looking out for her” were no longer in play once she’d moved onto bigger and better things, she’d stopped believing that cops really were the good guys. She’d always just assumed that their hearts stopped working when they were on a case, and that when a case closed, so did their empathy. But seeing Erin, the very person who’d made her stop believing in the system, so choked up, had got her thinking, and had got her seeing, not just a badge and a gun in front of her, but a human being.
Burgess’s face fell at the question. Did you know any of them? “Three of them, actually,” she said quietly, and Avery turned to face her.
“Sorry,” she said again. She was stuck in that awkward place between wanting to know and not wanting to upset Burgess.
“No, stop apologizing,” Burgess smiled. “Their names and their stories are right here. The fact that you want to know is everything. It’s why we have these plaques. Jin I only knew in passing. He was Intelligence’s tech guy, before he was murdered by a power-hungry Internal Affairs officer who wanted to take down Voight and was willing to sacrifice many an underdog on his way down. Willhite…she was in Intelligence, too. Amazing woman. Antonio’s partner. Mom, wife, good friend – shot in the face while working a drug dealer turned murderer, died in the ICU. Erin was holding her hand when she died.”
“Wow. That’s rough. I didn’t realize you guys…”
“In Intelligence we know what we sign up for. We risk our lives the same way these brave men and women did every single day, and we want to. For the city. And for people like you.”
Avery just nodded, still not entirely convinced. “Who was the other?”
“Hmm?”
“You said you knew three of the names up here, but you only told me about two.”
Burgess swallowed. “Um, Nadia. Nadia Decotis. She was my friend.”
“How did she die?”
Another deep breath. There had been a lot of these in the run of the conversation. “I’m afraid that really wouldn’t be my place to tell you. Nadia was my friend, but she was Erin’s best friend. I’m sorry, but Nadia’s story is Erin’s to tell you, okay?”
Avery frowned slightly. “Okay,” she agreed, her voice coming out as barely more than a whisper.
She hadn’t realized that Erin, too, had lost her best friend. Apparently they had more in common than she thought.
The murder board in the bullpen was filling up pretty fast.
“That was Halstead,” Voight addressed the team who had assembled – minus Antonio – in the room in front of him as he got off the phone with the detective, who was still at Chicago Med, waiting for Jason Andrews to wake up from the coma that he had slipped into after the surgery. “Jason has survived surgery and it’s looking good. He’s not out of the woods yet, but provided he wakes up in the next couple days, he should pull through.”
The unit let out a collective sigh of relief.
“Al, Ruzek, I want you to go and talk to Jason’s girlfriend. Matilda Hart, the parents said her name was.”
“On it, boss,” said Ruzek, and the partners left together. Al was muttering something darkly under his breath and Ruzek seemed to be laughing. They made a good team, even if they were a literal embodiment of the “old cop, young cop” dynamic. The rest of the unit sometimes joked behind their backs that they’d kill each other one day – they’d survive bullet wounds and gunfights and bombs, only to be driven insane by their partner.
“Erin, I want you to run these photographs past Avery. See if she recognizes any of them,” Voight commanded. “And Burgess, Atwater, can you visit Jason’s school. Especially the basketball coach.”
“Sure,” Erin said, and Atwater and Burgess began to gather their things.
“Hey,” Erin greeted the teenager when she entered the room. She didn’t ask how she was – it was a little petty, she’d admit, but she was still annoyed at her comment before. Anyway, she definitely wanted to keep this interaction impersonal. She was on official business.
“Hey,” Avery replied. Clearly she hadn’t forgotten their conversation earlier. “If—”
Erin held up a finger to silence her. “I need you to look at some photographs for us. See if you recognize any of these people.”
She laid out thirteen photographs in front of her. Avery peered into each one carefully.
“No,” she shook her head. “The guy I saw was definitely Hispanic. The guy who shot Luca.”
“I don’t mean the killer. I mean just – anyone you’d seen around Luca. If he was working to take down his uncle’s operation, he must have had some contact with these people.”
“Who are they?”
“Other victims.”
“Are they all dead?”
Erin sighed. She was so nosy. “All but this one,” she said, tapping Jason Andrews’s photograph.”
Avery peered down at the eighteen year old smiling back at her. “He’s kinda hot,” she said, shrugging. “Actually…” she frowned, thinking hard for a second. “Does he go to Lakewood?”
Erin frowned. “Yes, how did you…?”
“I saw him! He was talking to Luca, the other day. I only caught a glimpse of his face for a millisecond, but he had a letterman jacket on, and I could see the name of the school on the back. The only reason I remembered is ‘cause I remember thinking that he was hot.”
Erin rolled her eyes. “Okay. Did you hear what they were talking about?”
She shook her head. “No. But they looked pretty serious.”
“Thank you,” Erin said, and grabbed the photographs from the table.
Before she could leave the room, Avery stopped her. “Erin, I’m sorry about what I said earlier. Thank you for offering to help me.”
The detective shrugged. “That’s okay.”
They smiled at each other briefly and Erin left the break room, calling her sergeant as she went.

Memories from Kuala Lumpur – an introduction to Malaysia
Malaysia’s thriving capital city is a colorful metropolis where every culture, religion, and taste smash together to form a new modern Asia unlike anywhere I’ve ever been before. Let’s visit Kuala Lumpur!
The beating heart of Malaysia never stops, 24 hours a day it thrums along never sleeping and always alive, giving off a unique feel of energy that I haven’t really encountered in other big cities before. With a feeling of youthful ambition, Kuala Lumpur is quickly elbowing its way up the ladder of big cities demanding a visit in and of itself.
Now, I’ll be perfectly honest here; in terms of places to visit Kuala Lumpur wasn’t at the tippy top of my wishlist. But I will say it had been on my radar for years and had increasingly piqued my interest as I frequently fly through there from New Zealand overseas – it’s a popular transit city from the Pacific to, well, anywhere really.
Hello affordable long-haul flights! And I had a stunning suite at the Ritz-Carlton waiting to embrace me when I arrived instead of a grueling airport layover followed up with another long-haul flight somewhere else.
Well, I could get used to that.
This time around instead of stopping through on my usual lightning trip, I decided to give Kuala Lumpur the attention it deserves, and spent a few days exploring both its famous features and rooting around trying to find the hidden gems that you know are buried here.
And KL didn’t disappoint, holy crap! Just you wait. Are you ready?
I’ve been back home for a week, and I’m still dreaming (and drooling) over the incredible foods, stunning sites to visit, and especially the friendly people who are all but willing to shout from the rooftops of how much they love their city.
Without any irony, I can say that Kuala Lumpur is a city that enchants, if you let it.
First things first, I am a small-town country bumpkin at heart. Big cities aren’t always my jam. I’m picky. Really picky. A city has to tick almost all of my boxes for me to rave about it. Spoiler alert – KL does.
But instead of just doing up another travel blogger list of all the same spots that you totally-definitely-MUST visit on a trip to Malaysia (yawn), I wanted to try something a bit different. I want to share my favorite memories from my adventure in a new country through words and photos. I want to bring you along with me on my trip and let you feel what I felt, discover what I discovered, hated and loved what I hated and loved. What do you think?
Now, come with me on this visual and slightly verbal journey to the heart of Malaysia with 10 of my most dominating memories. And of course, don’t hold back, and let me know what you think at the end. Now, enjoy!
Laughter
Solo female travel is kinda my thing and has been for a decade. But we aren’t exclusive. I really enjoy traveling with other people who I get along with and who have similar travel values – i.e. let me be in charge and who love food. The people I explored Malaysia made the trip so much more fun than I think I would have had on my own.
I joined up with Trey Ratcliff in Malaysia as part of his very cool project 80 Stays around the World project with the Ritz-Carlton, a campaign to inspire art, creativity and presence. What a coincidence, those are all concepts that I’m all about in my own life and work!
I’ve been friends with Trey for years, a fellow American who lives near me in New Zealand, and for those of you who don’t know of him, he’s kinda of a big deal. One of the biggest photographers in the world, a bit of a humble gent who loves tech, every time we went on adventure together I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing! Now those are the people you want to be traveling with, right?
Me: “Trey, pose like a foodie blogger”
Flavors
The story of Kuala Lumpur is best experienced through food, something, of course, I never object to when traveling.
From sizzling satays to spicy rice dishes to fresh everything, all the mangos, all the coconuts, if you only come to Kuala Lumpur, let it be for the food.
An absolute mecca for foodies, the mishmash of cultures and stories here really play into building KL into a city of feasts. Famous for street food, which of course I thoroughly enjoyed, I also made sure to check out more modern fares and local haunts, always on the hunt for the next best meal.
5 Reasons Why Having a Food Allergy Shouldn’t Keep You from Traveling
Comfort
Growing up on the urban east coast in the US, the Ritz-Carlton hotels have always been a part of my childhood memories. It was a great joy for me to begin to return to them in adulthood, you know, once I evolved past the backpacker phase of my late teens and early twenties – shivers, glad that chapter is done and dusted.
Where the ancient rivers of Gombak and Klang intersect in Kuala Lumpur lies the stunningly renovated Ritz-Carlton, which let me tell you, is so cozy you might find it hard to leave and journey outside. The unaffected luxury of the Ritz guarantees a pleasant time for a traveler like me.
The friendliness of the kind souls who work here really made all of the difference for me, whether that was coming home back to my room after a long day exploring only to find a bubble bath drawn and hand-written note from my butlers (yes, plural) to the thoughtful touches hidden throughout the property, it was definitely my kind of place to escape to.
And they have a library restaurant, need I say more?

Fusion
Kuala Lumpur is the textbook definition of a modern-day melting pot.
Cosmopolitan and fresh, its three main ethnicities are Malay, Chinese, and Indian, all of which coexist and bring their own languages, cultures, religions, histories, traditions, and of course, foods to mix together and form a modern-day Malaysia.
While I’m no expert on commenting on cultures, I can say that this was what fascinated me the most about Malaysia, how one place would remind me of China, while others more spots in Southeast Asia. Of course it’s easiest to see when you visit some of the mosques and temples in the city, but I would recommend really opening your eyes and your heart while you’re there and asking locals to share some of what they love about their city with you.
Trust me, you’ll learn a lot.
Radiant
I’m such a sucker for colorful places – I mean, have you seen my Instagram?
A veritable rainbow in real life, I’m always drawn to the more vibrant places of the world, and Kuala Lumpur is no exception.
From the incredible street art to the street food markets to the temples, mosques and other noteworthy spots, KL embodies the philosophy of why paint in beige when you can have a rainbow?
Heat
Kuala Lumpur is humid and hot. That’s all. Other pasty blonde folk of Scandinavian descent like me best prepare yourselves.
Scents
Kuala Lumpur is full of smells that are utterly unique and different from what I’ve grown accustomed to in the mountains of New Zealand. I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but the more I travel, the more attune I become to the way places smell.
And of course memory and smell are completely intertwined.
As soon as I stepped out of the airport in KL, I was hit with the warm humidity that reminded me of my earlier trips to places like Bali and Bangkok, the urban smell of diesel and simmering fried woks.
Perhaps what was most unique was the incense in the temples. That’s what I think of the most when I remember the smell of KL.
Illuminate
Trey’s a total night-owl. I’m a bit of a grandma.
The city really gets going when the sun goes down, the temperatures drop and people come out in droves. Kuala Lumpur at night is next level, and while I struggled to stay away past 10pm and keep up with Trey on his evening wanders in search of the best views of the city at night, I did manage to make up to one of the many rooftops of the high-rises that decorate the skyline.
A trip with Trey wouldn’t be complete without one city lights photo! How did I do?

Exquisite
High-tea in the afternoon is very much a thing in Asia (and of course other places too), and often when I’m in these big cities I indulge. I mean, who wouldn’t?
There is just something so divine about dressing up and sitting down with friends in a beautiful space (just to enjoy yourself), sampling delicious exotic teas with smaller savory and sweet goodies. Why yes, I’ll have two of everything!
The Ritz-Carlton in KL does a fabulous afternoon tea that’s worth treating yourself to, if only to just sit and relax in the wonderfully decorated lobby lounge, but I also highly recommend taking afternoon tea at the St. Regis to see another part of Kuala Lumpur.
Rosy
It was absolutely sweltering when we made our way out of the city center to visit the Putra Mosque, a place I had heard about but really wanted to clap eyes on.
Completely pink, it’s probably one of the most memorable mosques I’ve ever been to.
For a big city that seems a bit impenetrable, Kuala Lumpur left me feeling nothing but rosy happy thoughts. My memories are all positive, filled with noodles and colors, of delicious spices and happy smiles among new friends. It’s a place I wouldn’t hesitate to return to again, and get to know a little better. Thank you Malaysia!
What do you think? Have you been to Kuala Lumpur before? What are some of your favorite memories from a recent trip somewhere? Share!
Many thanks to the Ritz-Carlton for hosting me in Malaysia – like always I’m keeping it real, all opinions are my own, like you could expect less from me.

It's the little things
Some of you might not be aware, but I love gadgets. I love things that do multiple tasks, or make tasks easier. I like things that put things I don't have in a system in one. I think that's why I love lifehacks and Crazy Russian Hacker on Youtube so much. Now, I don't remember if I loved these things this much before I got sick, but I know trying to relearn how to do everything in my life in limited capacity after my sudden onset only made me obsessed. I know I scoured research, organizations and forums those first few months. On one forum, I found a whole list of how to do household tasks with CM and SM. That was great. I wish I still had it right now... However, that was for people who were mostly in the home due to their disability. I still work and hold community positions and I was struggling. So, here is the first installment of my favorite chronic hacks for home, school, parenting, and life! If you have suggestions or opinions... comment below. 1. Make your tech work for you! I know that I had the hardest time concentrating and remembering things with brain fog and constant medication adjustments. I started using my voice recorder, calendar and to-do list apps religiously. 2. Try bullet journaling. It might seem redundant to use multiple to-do list strategies, but I have a photographic memory. Writing things out cements so much for me. Also, if you love making lists, a bullet journal is a great way to work out some of those extra mind details. Also, I love that I can be super creative and use it to relax. If you want to see some of my spreads or lists.... give a comment below. 3. Get a shower chair! I know that so many of us are young and adaptive equipment seems so strange, but this is a lifesaver. I have dysautonomic issues and sometimes they act up in the shower and I have to sit down NOW! This has saved me a shower falls several times. 4. If you have rugs in you home, use velcro strips to hold them down and prevent tripping. If you are anything like me, you will trip over nothing like a pro! Adjusting your surroundings to make a fall less likely when your legs fail to move correctly will make those moments easier to cope with when they happen. 5. Okay, I haven't done this yet, but it's on my wishlist. You can get scrubbers that hook to your household drill. I can never get a good scrub on my tub (even with the long handled scrubber). Has anyone tried these tools yet? They kinda look like my dream come true. Okay. I will leave you all with this little list to start. What do you think? Leave me some feedback below. I've got a whole collection of hacks, so if y'all like them. I'll make it a series. via Blogger http://ift.tt/2xe9JrI

DARPA Developing a ‘Modem’ Linking Computer and Brain
New Post has been published on https://mediafocus.biz/darpa-developing-a-modem-linking-computer-and-brain/
DARPA Developing a ‘Modem’ Linking Computer and Brain
Modern remedy has brought us quite a chunk of outstanding matters. I, for one, love no longer dying from infections, from polio or mumps. Not to mention now not pooping myself to demise once I have a tumbler of water. These are things that I assume we will all agree are Good™. Even with that development, although, lots of humanity’s oldest diseases and issues are pernicious, DARPA (yeah, that one) has commenced searching into a few mind-laptop interfaces that might do the trick.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is an arm of the United States military, so it appears unusual that it’d increase a device that… y’understand… doesn’t kill humans. But, lest we no longer overlook that the agency became instrumental within the advent of the net. Though, to be truthful, that becomes to make it less difficult to speak with different bases approximately the handiest ways to kill humans.
Snide comments aside, the Neural Engineering System Design Program will funnel $65 million into a series of studies projects to be able to help bridge the distance between human beings and machines. The awards will go to several teams which can be working on the whole thing from gifting the blind sight and controlling new cybernetic limbs. Almost every utility is benevolent, and many hope to at some point assist the ones injured on the battlefield or off.
All of this is lofty, sure, however, DARPA’s got a quite appropriate tune document typical. Some initiatives unavoidably get canned, however, the business enterprise is on target to three different smaller mind-pc interface studies projects.
If the NESD fares as nicely, it has to have operating mind-computer implants inside four years. Ideally, it will likely be able to convert signals at once and reliably between the ones our brain uses for its electrochemical pc (i.E. Neurotransmitters) and those and zeroes of computing. If all is going according to the device, DARPA could be able to the percent that tech into the area about one milliliter in extent.
Paradromics, one of the groups receiving investment, gets $18 million to expand a system of electrodes that file neural interest and then ship messages backpedal. Or, to listen them say it:
“As a part of the DARPA NESD Program, [we are] developing the Neural Input–Output Bus, or ‘NIOB,’ that’s scheduled for medical trials in 2021. The NIOB tool will act as a cortical modem with the intention to be able to study and stimulating mind hobby with an effective facts rate of > 1 Gbps. Together with [our partners]… we can be supplying the NIOB to sufferers with ALS who’ve misplaced the ability to talk, allowing them to talk fluently thru the useful resource of the implant.”
While it can be intended to help with ALS for now, a “cortical modem” is the first step to being able to jack into the Matrix. And, I dunno about you, but that’s kinda all I’ve dreamed approximately on account that I changed into a child. But, to get there, they’ll have to overcome a few vast hurdles — such as knowing the mind at all within the first place.
It’s a long avenue, however a worthy one. Here’s hoping that we’ve got some sincerely sweet cybernetic tech a decade down the road.
Similarities Between the Computer and the Brain
Have you ever found out that the brain and a laptop have almost comparable functions? For instance, if you down load something for your pc, it’s miles simply similar to the brain downloading new statistics at some point of training in magnificence. The identical component goes with uploading a record or a photograph from the computer to the net; your mind does the identical component through importing some thing you discovered in magnificence and projecting it onto a chunk of paper. For example, your brain downloads a picture when you see something, and then uploads it by way of you drawing an image of something you’ve got seen. Of course, even the world’s maximum effective supercomputer can’t rival a human brain, but those are a few examples of the similarities among guy and device that can be identified. Probably in the future, in which humans have advanced a few excessive era will they be able to create close to-human computer systems.
Here are some other similarities among the computer and the mind:
Functions and Purpose
Both are used for storage of facts, to procedure information and to run responsibilities.
Functions: Both are used for mathematical calculations, sorting out complex algorithms and to storing of crucial facts.
Role in society
Both play essential roles in society, commerce, leisure, and science
Every single dwelling creature survives by short questioning and reflexes, that includes us. The pc today performs the maximum important roles from specialized structures controlling whole manufacturing factories to little “fuzzy common sense” chips in washing machines that intelligently monitor the showering technique.
Combining additives
Both paintings by way of combining the procedures of numerous components and elements to perform their duties.
A computer includes many components, including a motherboard (which is likewise fabricated from numerous components), the disk drives, the processor, image playing cards and much greater… All of which has its very own rules inside the pics procedures.
Like a pc, the mind is shaped out of components. Besides having the left and right mind, there also are elements of the brain that take care of emotions, mathematical calculations, body co-ordinations and many different duties needed for our each day activities.
Electrical alerts
Both work by way of transmitting “common sense indicators” to each in their components. Signals are both electric
i.E. A laptop works with the aid of the usage of binary (“on”/”off” logical signals referred to as “bits”, prepare as “bytes” to symbolize statistics.) To communicate internally between additives, constitute statistics and store statistics.
In a way, neurons inside the mind are either “on” or “off” by using either firing an movement potential or not firing an movement capability.
Memory potential
Both can increase their memory garage capacity.
Computer reminiscence grows through including pc chips/outside hard drives/ pre-hooked up difficult drives. Memories within the brain develop with the aid of stronger synaptic connections.
Self-renovation
Both computers and brain have restore and “backup” structures.
The brain has “built-in backup systems” in a few instances. If one pathway within the mind is broken, there’s often every other pathway on the way to take over this characteristic of the broken pathway.Similar to a computer, in which backup documents may be stored inside the laptop.
Degrading with time
Both can degrade. Computers smash down and mind cells go to pot
Like all machines, computer systems spoil down with time. Brain cells deteriorate with age, losing their features and slowing down due to decreased counts of chemicals and hormones inside the body.

6/11/17, 1:41am - post vacation
It’s been two weeks since I last wrote. Goddamn it feels like months.
The day after saturday.... So Sunday my family shows up at my place, mom immediately starts going through my shit until I start yelling and smacking her on the back of the head. Definitely not a good note to start off on.
The trip was pretty fucking great. Idk if they’re highlights but I just wanna ramble off a bunch of memories. Ate at Cracker Barrel on the way down because Trusten always felt left out when me and Tessa would go eat there with my dad. Little did he know that was my least favorite place he would take us, but it was a nice dinner nonetheless lmao.  The subject of my vasectomy became a huge topic all trip, partially because I had to bring up trying to keep my shit from getting infected whenever we would go swimming. Immediately jumped into the beach though it was fantastic. The water was beautifully clear and so warm, like taking a bath. Got to know my cousins a lot better. Christina is great, but also made me happy I’m not about to have a kid at my age. Got to see my aunts and stuff too, I can’t rag on her too hard because one has cancer, but they were talking about some pseudo-spiritualism-science for a long time and I just had to smile and keep my mouth shut for a while. “I’ve read it takes 48 days for the spirit of the deceased to reach the heavens. And it takes 48 days for a developing baby to be imbued with the spirit. Coincidence??” yeah idk lmfao. Great dance party with the fam though lol. Tessa’s looking unhealthily skinny but tremendously happy. I’m glad she’s back and done with her crazy dieting. Puts me to shame, tbh. Kinda makes me want to go a little harder and finish trimming off my fat but I’ve got more healthy plans I’m gonna start working on I think. Saw danni and her new gf, she cut my hair and gave me a new dye job. Was frustrated that I had to have so much cut off because I wanted to keep growing it out, but it Does look pretty fucking great and I have faith in her regardless lol. Smoked with her and grandpa and mom and talked about a whole bunch of shit. Tried to explain about how I treasure my personal time way more than investing my time into growing my wealth, had to try and do it without giving him shit for spending all his time trying to make money and not having any of it left to himself after the divorce. Also asked if he was gay and he said nah so that puts that to bed lmaooo. we went out to the Keys and that was kind of a disaster. I always kinda romanticized the thought of them when I was a kid, remembering like bright white sandy beaches and beautiful water, but there’s actually not much of that at all down there. The beach we went to smelt like rot. It was beautiful but covered in seagrass and very shallow, me and tessa and tav and trusten had a nice time of swimming against the current together joking about shit. Made a nice dinner of fried salmon and asparagus for my little brothers. Felt nice to cook again, should probably do more of that. Things boiled over with my mom when she kept fucking with the other food I picked out for us. Wasted a whole pack of bacon out of spite and so I flipped shit and decided I was done with them. Spent a day playing video games and tanning and laying around, was probably best to heal up my nuts anyway lol. We left the keys a day early because of it, but not before we got to watch this tenacious D video that they had. No wifi lol. Lessee. Came back up, saw gabbi and I think I like her new bf. They seem pretty good together, but I tried to warn them to not nitipick each other to death now that they’re moving in together. Good luck lmfao. Drank 9 beers and a cider with my uncle DJ and cousin Dom and his girlfriend was cute too, I shared wayyy too much about my life, told half my family about how I had my friends photograph me fucking at the old well, but ate some delicious fucking italian cooking and had a wonderful night. Smoked with DJ and mom and listened to their old stories of growing up as kids and getting into trouble for smoking and stuff. Oh and right before the keys I started binge watching Doctor Who. Since Katy went and watched every single episode of rick and morty in one night I asked her what her favorite show was that I could do. Doctor Who is a Little more involved, but I’ve gotta say it’s fucking incredible. Fell in love with it within minutes, had me giggling like an idiot all week. I’d stay up til like 7am watching episodes, get a few hours of sleep and then try to do whatever everyone else was though by the end of the trip it wasn’t much. The drive home wasn’t very eventful, me and mom split it, and it ended at a nice pit stop at dar and pa’s for some pancakes and a nap before I had to head home. Was trying to do a melee tournament and see katy and found out I needed to get my tire fixed, but then costco was going to take too long and so would melee so I just got back to greensboro and had a nice night of watching adventure time and a little sex and cuddles. Pretty fucking solid vacation despite the fighting with the fam, not gonna lie. Plus this is like the first time I look really not-fat in beach pictures, it’s kinda incredible.
So Katy... I spent a lot of time talking to Katy. We’ve at least snapchatted every day for the past month now, but haven’t had another drunk convo like when I was at the lake. After seeing her when I got back on monday I also spent the night with her again weds, and we’ve been bingewatching Adventure Time from the beginning and I took her out to eat at Smith Street Diner, it’s all been fantastic. But she couldn’t see me tuesday because she had another guy friend over (and another on thursday, but I was at work anyway lol). So I get kinda jealous that she has this beautiful ass kid and all these other guys wanting to fuck her, mostly because I don’t have other people or a very decent schedule to hook up right now, orr even get to go out drinking with her. Feelsbadman. It also feels like it’d be too much work/money to try to get a side chick anyway, and plus, melee is my real side hoe let’s not kid ourselves.. [speaking of which, the day I couldn’t see her I kicked ass at melee and won a little money, so that was pretty fucking great.] She’s amazing to spend time with and she gave me a toothbrush to keep in her bathroom and I love cuddling up with her beautiful body, but tbh she’s pretty standoffish whenever I try to get too intimate in person (mostly trying to kiss her too much), and when she refuses to send me a message back because she’s with somebody else I can’t help but shake this feeling like I’m not good enough for her... Feelings are stupid. I worry about going too hard too fast with her, but every time I’ve gone too far off the deep end she’s been able to laugh it off, which I think is incredible. Definitely should have scared her off with the shit I was saying about trying to make her fall in love with me (and not vice versa, for the record, because I still don’t have any feelings <:^D ) when I was 10 drinks deep, but somehow she even laughed that off. Plus she’s fantastically nerdy and exposed me to doctor who and this show is like my favorite shit right now lmao. I’ve just wrapped up the fourth season, which is about 37 hours of watching within the past two weeks.. It’s so fucking goooood, man. She told me all I had to do was catch up to her at the 12th doctor but I wanna go back and watch all the old stuff after that, too. so like 56/835 episodes done so far so good lmaoo. Anyway. Idk I just hope I get to spend a lot more time with her doing cool shit. I don’t know what I am to her, so I have no idea if this is gonna go anywhere, but it really doesn’t matter all that much to me anyway. I just enjoy hanging out with her, and she got me to quit smoking cigarettes completely, and now I’m watching this wonderful show instead of wasting my fucking life bored on twitch streams, and I’m even actually starting to get motivated to start exercising again. And the sex is greattttt lmaooo. So I want to spend as much time with her as possible. It’s pretty gay, not gonna lie, but that’s where I’m at right now. Idk why I’ve always needed some cute girlie to help motivate me to get my shit done, though. Personal flaws...
OH HOLY FUCK so this week was the most productive week ever though, because not only did I manage to get laid and place 3rd in melee this week, I also FINALLY got to take the exam for my RPSGT!! The day I was originally scheduled for was a shit show, I drove 2 hours out to fayetteville and found out they had fucked up my registration and I didn’t get to take it that day after waiting for hours to see if they could fix it, but luckily I was able to get rescheduled for the day after, so I left Katy’s place to go to Durham and took it at 8am thursday. I was fucking sweating a little, not gonna lie. They were asking me all sorts of questions about pediatric sleep medicine that I wasn’t quite prepared for, and some of the scoring questions were confusing to me, but I managed to pass! So now I finalllllllllly have made it to become a real sleep tech. Gonna get that fat raise and finally get to a point where I can stop worrying about money, it’s fucking phenomenal.
So I’m so fucking ready to get off work... Gonna go back to raleigh today and see fonzi and frankie and maybe johnny so that’s gonna be sick. There’s this new melee mod that came out so I’m thinking about getting a soldering iron and fucking with my controller, maybe I’ll actually be good at this game lol. Dunno when I’m hanging with katy next hopefully every day lmfaooo. I guess I’ll update when I update.
