I love the idea of Christopher and Monroe meeting later in life. Like a chance meeting where they happen to cross paths. I feel like it would go something like this:
Monroe: Wait, you’re not supposed to exist!
Christopher: Excuse me, your dad died when he was 11!
Monroe: That was just a misunderstanding.
Christopher: A MISUNDERSTANDING!!!!!

have you ever played The Unfinished Swan (2012) the predecessor to WRoEF? Miltons room is an entire reference to it
I've heard of the Unfinished Swan and it's connection to WRoEF, even though I never played it myself. It looks pretty interesting, though.
Maybe I should look a bit deeper into it but right now my main thoughts is that I am Endlessly Amused by the Implied Narrative of having the relatively-grounded game that is about fantasy on some level but is generally constantly teetering on the line of straight-up confirming all of the 'supernatural' elements have simple, mundane explanations exist in the same universe as the game where a Magical World of Magical Paintings undeniably exists.
Like, the so-called Finch Family Curse is probably just a combination of generational trauma, unhealthy coping mechanisms turning into self-fulfilling prophecies, general bad luck and probably some sort of hereditary undiagnosed neurodivergency. And all the supposedly 'supernatural' stuff happening around the Finches is just food-poisoning-fueled hallucinations or ridiculous obviously false tell-tales, or just plain ol' delusions..... Except for Milton disappearing into the Magic Painting World. That one DID literally happened.
I don't think this discrepancy significantly harms the themes or emotional core of either work, but it is VERY FUNNY once you take the time to think about it.

What would be really cool to see
You know what would be really cool to see more people in this fandom tackle? How Milton’s dissapearance affected the COMMUNITY. I mean-most of the town where they live know about the curse presumably-did they join Dawn in looking for him? What if there were search parties-people in the community, running around the woods and the beaches trying to find this missing boy-
Maybe they try to send a signal out tangled-style on the anniversary of his dissapearance every year-or simply leave little memorials for the boy who dissapeared. Hell, for all we know-in modern times there may even be PODCASTS or radio shows with conspiracy theories about what ACTUALLY Happened to him-
I know, I know it will likely never happen in CANON but now that the fandom’s getting bigger-it would be REALLY cool to see more people thinking about this! ANGST, MYSTERY, CONSPIRACIES-It would be REALLY fun to tackle!

It's funny because there's no Fall Damage in Monster Hunter, unlike how it is in What Remains of Edith Finch. Inspired by the Monster Hunter movie. No. Really. Lotta isekai going down in Monster Hunter. The Henry Caviller most egregiously, and we're far away from reaching Fortnite levels of inappropriateness, but the absurdity just keeps Monster Hunter Rising. Devil May Cry. Assassin's Creed. Resident Evil. The Breath of the Elden Ring Benchwarmer to name a few. Brought up persistent and uncomfortable questions about artistic integrity and atmosphere in my noggin that lacked a proper means of exorcism. That is until I saw this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_45tmyxBpc
It unlocked something in me. Suddenly a petit press kit's with of peculiar extravagance self-mailed itself into my skull, giving my apprehensions form…and an answer: Why not go full tilt? Terminal tastelessness!? It's the Golden Age of Isekai. And if you think that Squid Game was dystopic, they're making a cinematic universe based around the anti-capitalist Parasite film. Everything's up in the air and on the table! And SHA was nice enough to humor me. So that's how this happened. I can only hope that those who played both games get a good laugh out of it.

Been playing The Unfinished Swan again (my version is PS3) recently, and it’s such a beautiful game.
That’s funny to say though because it starts out completely white. You have to throw balls of ink everywhere to see anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then it gets more detailed with shadows and a teeny bit of color. Still gets confusing sometimes though. The game’s story is that the king didn’t think there were colors good enough to make his kingdom look nice.
Tumblr media
The game is still mostly white but your ink turns to water after a point so you can grow vines to make things stand out more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can grow enough vines in this room just to climb the chimney and get out, but I wanted to see what it looked like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I finally made the vines curl around these pillars. So much better.
I think that’s as much as I can make the vines grow. The game gets more color later and turns to night, which is another one of my favorite levels. I’ll put more here about it later. It’s just fun to talk about, and it is a nice game.

OK IM SAD RIGHTN OW BUT I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY
The unfinished swan is perhaps one of te most artistically ambitous game I have every seen and fondly remember. the gameplay embodies color coding and new mechanics that can easily be picked up without a tutorial even stating what you need to do.
The world is so magically and so whimsical and it really embodies a child’s mind trying to make sense of everything around him. theres giants theres magic paintbrushes theres literally everything i love and everything more
but i think the best part of the game is the fact that in the middle of the story, when you’re walking around the white kingdom is the fact that the narrator just straight up drops in the fact that “oh yeah. these pots? these black pots that hte king used to make? the ones hes really passionate about and actually finished? yeah, those pots. people shat in them. yep. they shat in the pots. cuz the king didnt build any toilets. silly king”
and i fucking love that stupid potty humor goddamn <3
