"Mr. Riddle," Regulus said, hurriedly covering his surprise, "good afternoon."

"Good afternoon, Lord Black," Riddle replied, pushing to his feet and holding out his hand.

Regulus hesitated, eyeing him for a moment with suspicion. In public he was untouchable. No one would dare to attack him, no one was stupid enough to try, and it was a privilege Regulus was not afraid to abuse if it helped him achieve his goals. But here in the vast, empty halls of Malfoy Manor, with only Narcissa and the house-elves for company, Riddle could very easily get away with anything.

Regulus was arrogant, but not so much to assume the man before him couldn't crush him like a bug if it came to a fight.

His mind rushed to list all the risks - touch-based poisons, curses, monitoring spells, jinxes - and desperately wished he had thought to wear his gloves. He hadn't anticipated this ambush happening so soon, and not from an innocent invitation to have tea with his cousin, but maybe he should have. He knew where Narcissa's loyalty lay.

With a subtle downward curl to his lips, Regulus shook the man's hand. He would have to find a second to cast a diagnosis charm, because there was no way the rising Dark Lord would miss the chance skin-to-skin contact with Regulus could give him.

Riddle gave him a gilded smile, as if he knew precisely what he was thinking and found it funny. "How good to see you again. Come," Riddle continued smoothly, and against all expectation and protocol, he used his grip on Regulus hand to coax him further down the hall.

Regulus was unbalanced enough to allow it. He shot a look at Narcissa, but his cousin was facing forward, ignoring him completely as she followed them. Reduced to the background in her own home. It smarted Regulus' own pride to see her so demure, despite her participation in this farce.

Riddle led him into the nicer sitting room, and guided Regulus right to his seat. Stubbornly, he waited until Riddle was at his own chair before sitting down.

Narcissa took the place beside him, her hands folding atop her lap, and it was only then that she turned to smile at him. "Cousin, how have you been?"

Regulus considered briefly how he wanted to play this. He could pretend this was a normal occurrence, as if Riddle was a usual fixture in these meetings and privy to such intimate talks.

Or he could be more combative.

Logic dictated one but his instincts prompted the other.

"I'm fine, Cissy. Why are you here, Mr. Riddle?"

Riddle appeared delighted to be asked. "Straight to the point, Lord Black?"

"My time is precious," he answered, heavy with implications that wiped some of Riddle's smugness right off. "If there's a reason you orchestrated this entire thing, if there's something you wished to speak to me about, I'd rather know it now."

"Such an accusation. What makes you think I orchestrated this?" Riddle replied, his eyes bright with intrigue as he barely put any effort into the lie. "Perhaps it's a happy coincidence."

Regulus clasped his hands and leaned forward to meet that heavy gaze. "I don't think coincidences happen to a man like you, Mr. Riddle."

There was a moment when they just smiled at each other, both aware how close to the edge they were walking, before Riddle finally broke the stalemate. "It's about the latest bill -"

"I'm not changing my stance," Regulus cut in, voice hardening. "And forgive me for saying it, Mr. Riddle, but you seem far too interested in politics for a man whose most notable achievement outside of graduating Hogwarts was being a sales assistant."

Oh ho ho, Regulus thought with vicious amusement, that one got him.

And Riddle couldn't say anything to counter that, because at this point in the time, Regulus wasn't supposed to know he was the rumoured Dark Lord.

He clears his throat as a joke before staring into the camera, “Snow lands on top,” He says in an insanely attractive voice as you fake faint. “Watch them edit this too,” You point out, “Please no,” He covers his face in embarrassment as you pat his back, silently laughing.

After a good 5 minutes the two of you calm down. “For the next one, Y/n you can just go ahead and search up Tom Blyth on TikTok and pick whatever tiktok you want him to react to,” Your eyes lit up at the offer and you hurriedly take the iPad from Tom’s lap and type his name. Tom leans over to look at the iPad as you hide it from him, a mischievous glint in your eyes that he knows all too well.

You take your time as your scroll before one catches your eye. You watch it and your jaw immediately drops open. “What is it?” Tom says impatiently as your eyes flicker from Tom to the woman. “I don’t know if I can even show this,” You cover your mouth.

“Babe, I don’t think you want to see this,” You continue while Tom becomes impatient and curious. “Just show me!” You give a look to the interviewer as you show him the tiktok. Almost immediately, Tom turns it off and gets up from the screen as you stifle a laugh, watching him as he walks behind the camera, his hands on his hips.

“What did I just watch,” He says as you full on start to laugh to the point where you were on the ground laughing and had a stitch. “I should have stayed curious” Tom runs a hand down his face as he sighs and sits back down on the chair, laughing at you on the floor dying from laughter.

“I’m so glad you find this amusing, sweetheart,” He playfully rolls his eyes as he offers his hand and helps you up. “My eye makeup is most definitely ruined,” You say in between laughs as Tom grabs your face and wipes away the smudged mascara.

“Oh my god! I’m sorry I didn’t even show you the tiktok!” You realise as the woman doing the interview snickers. “We probably looked mentally insane,” You fan your face. The TikTok was of Coryo kissing your character in tbosas and the next clip was of Billy kissing Dulcinea which also happened to be played by you and the writing on the TikTok said “This man kisses like he is starved, like she is the oxygen he needs to breathe,”

Tom was beyond embarrassed as he recalled both moments when he was kissing you on screen. “This may be abit of TMI but ladies, he’s always been like that,” You cover the left side of your mouth as you whisper it to the camera before winking.

wrt your answer regarding IceMav’s overall perception of women, and how they were both unfortunately, products of their times/military backgrounds: this is a question I asked myself all the time, while reading WWGATTAI — CAN they really only have a truly equal relationship with another man? Back in chapter 1, when Ice was so deep in denial about himself and his sexuality, that he wouldn’t know what (or who) he wanted, even if it rode up-to him on a freight train, and knocked him flat out on his ass, his idea of what he thinks makes sense for him is: a simple woman who won’t ask too many questions, who will wait up for him until his ship comes home, who will purse her lips when he tells her of the violence he’s witnessed but won’t pry, who will wash and dry his uniform for him and kiss him at the sound of Reveille in the morning. ‘Cause, in his own words: Complicated women lead to complicated problems, long arguments, late nights, philosophy discussions, plans for the future.

Now, maybe it’s telling, maybe it’s not, but the closest Ice gets to semi-serious relationship with a woman, is with a PhD candidate: who doesn’t seem to fit into his very-juvenile ideal of a ‘simple’ woman, and the person he ends up choosing over her is Mav: who is a man ofc, but at the same time, is ‘simple’ in the sense that he doesn’t ask too many (or any) questions, does wait up for Ice till his ship comes home (even if Ice doesn’t explicitly want him to), probably has little interest in late-night philosophy discussions, and absolutely-zero expectations for their future. This combined with the fact that Ice confides in Jake, telling him that Mav’s the only person he’s ever been in love with, made me wonder whether Mav’s ‘simplicity’ (LOL), was a part of the reason why Ice loved him, and whether there was a sliver of a chance that maybe, Ice did know himself just a little bit, back when he was in his mid-twenties? In Debriefing, Mav thinks to himself, that he’s slept with a lotta guys, and he’s slept with a lotta girls, and maybe, there was a 50-50 chance who he ended up with. But maybe, for Ice, it was always meant to be Mav—regardless of how many others he slept with. I mean, Mav’s clearly not washing and drying any uniforms for Ice, but he’s probably kissing him at the sound of Reveille in the morning?

lol i literally never thought of it like that but you’re so right!!! in my head it’s not exactly “ice is in love with maverick BECAUSE he doesn’t ask questions” it’s more like “maverick not asking questions ALLOWS ice to be in love with him.”

I really have spent an EXORBITANT amount of time thinking about possible moments in the story they could have talked about it—moments when they could’ve chosen not to “waste time,” depending on how you look at it, and I cannot see any foot in the door that isnt maverick literally dying & coming back from the dead. Like—the most likely moment would’ve been when they hugged each other ~halfway through debriefing when mavericks like ice always leaves—i think maverick (if he were feeling forgiving enough) could’ve whispered I love you, and it wouldn’t have gone TERRIBLY, but I literally cannot imagine ice’s response. “Ok.” Doesn’t know what to do with himself. “Uh. I, uh. Can’t, really, uh…” until mavericks like “don’t worry about it…” & who knows what happens after that.

I think the ONLY way i have come up with that actually works is—maverick nonchalantly asking anytime, “do you like me? Like, as a person. I know some people don’t like me. I don’t know. Am I a likable person? I know we’re stuck together but. Do you actually like me?” And ice going, “yeah, of course i like you! :) i didnt used to… u used to be a fuckin twerp… but…” blabbering on about how “You have no idea how respected you are… You walk into a room & everyone’s faces light up… ur so much FUN… ur the life of every party… it used to make me jealous but now it just makes me so proud to say yes i used to fly with maverick Mitchell, yes im friends with him, yes i know him… :)))” like, the truth! & then, kind of insecure, “i know some people don’t like ME…. too cold hearted etc… idk as my best friend how do you feel about ME…” & maverick goes “come on. You know how I feel about you.” and ice is like… “oh! you love me!” & “oh shit.” More complicated than that obviously but that’s literally the only way ive come up with (besides TGM doing the work for me and killing Maverick off so Ice realizes he can’t live without him) that doesn’t end with ice going “uh. uh. Well we can’t. I don’t know how to respond to that. Uh. We can’t be in a relationship because I’m not.” And maverick going “yes you are!” And ice saying “fuck you, navy first!” and leaving. (The possibility that would’ve happened if mav wanted to ask questions. my Ice has to figure it out for himself.)
