It has become more widely known that jotun men from Norse mythology can give birth and generally people immediately jump to “That has to mean they’re trans men!” but one of the first things we’re told about jotuns is that they’re intersex in a fantastical way where they have both penis and vagina because they are creatures of chaos. Well, some of them.
The first jotun Ymir had both and mated with himself (the text literally say he had both) to create the jotun race. Then there’s King Godmundr who gave birth to nine wolf pups by his wizard werewolf boyfriend, which of course highlights that sometimes jotuns birth animals or monsters, the most famous instance being Angrboða giving birth to Hela, Fenrir and Jörmungandr by Loki.
But it also seems like not all jotun men can give birth naturally, Loki being one of them. Every time he gave birth he had to transform himself into a female form via magic. Most famously he was a mare when he gave birth to Sleipnir, but Odin also tells us Loki has taken the form of a human woman many times so he could sleep with men (and get pregnant) which suggests Loki likes sleeping with men but prefers to do it in the form of a woman (Loki then says Odin has done the same so he has no right to judge). Godmundr for example is called out for “being a man acting like a woman” because he likes to bottom so much but still in his male/intersex form.
And the stories are pretty clear on wether someone is a man, a man transformed into a woman, or a trans person. In one story we’re told Freyr’s house is filled with “men dressed and behaving like women”. Also the fact that Loki use his mother’s name as his last name could mean a million things. Maybe it’s because she was an Æsir goddess so he’d get more respect from the Æsir by taking her name. Maybe his mother was actually his father Fárbauti who gave birth to him. And maybe Loki isn’t intersex because he’s only half jotun.
It’s all just fun speculation but if jotuns were turned into a high fantasy race like elves and dwarves the mythology provides a ton of interesting implications about jotun biology.

Hey... sorry if this is too much, but im a baby trans and ive been struggling to grasp the concept what gender is, everytime i try to look for a definition i only find the vague basics like "its what you identify as!" Or i find bigoted shit from trasphobes. If you have any recommendations of essays about gender from trans people who dive deeper unto the concept it would really help. Sorry if im bothering you i just dont really know who else to ask 😅
i don't know how helpful i can be. i have a very instrumental view of transition--i.e., if you think it might make you happier than you are now, you should give it a try and see. i think a lot of pointless verbiage is spilled on trying to nail down difficult-to-elucidate questions about purely internal experiences, about the distinction between gender and sex, and about what all this gender stuff means anyway. i think that stuff can be interesting to discuss, if you like that sort of thing (and i do!) but that loading yourself up with a lot of gender theory isn't actually useful for figuring out what you should do vis a vis your gender presentation and how you identify.
for those latter questions, i think the answer is simple: what makes you happier? when you imagine a given gender presentation, or your body being different in certain ways, or people calling you by a certain name, does that sound appealing? doesn't matter why. if so, go for it! and frankly this advice is quite agnostic of whether or not you're cis or trans. people should adopt the identities that feel most conducive to their happiness. you do not need elaborate theoretical justifications for any of it. anyone who demands an elaborate theoretical justification for how you dress or what name you choose to use or anything like that is an asshole whose opinion you can safely ignore. i guarantee you they are selective in this demand, and are only using it to try to find an excuse to be a dick.
that said, you want a definition of gender, and i guess i can try.
"gender" has no definition. that's not meant to be a smart aleck answer. what i mean is: "gender" is a conceptual category. conceptual categories do not exist outside of our discourse about them. there is nowhere in the world you can go to lay your hands on A Gender. there is no Gender Particle. and while in most philosophical traditions we think of categories as having necessary and sufficient conditions for membership ("a human is an animal descended from the last common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees" might be such a taxonomic definition), conceptual categories aren't actually constructed that way. because that's not how the human brain actually works: when you're a kid learning what words mean, you don't learn "a chair is a thing with four legs you sit on." that wouldn't be accurate anyway (a horse is not a chair). you see lots of chairs and pictures of chairs and you form an image in your mind of what a chair is and when you see a thing your brain compares it to other things like it you've seen before, and if it looks like your mental model of a chair, you think, "chair."
(this is in fact how almost all definitions work in practice. even for formal scientific categories for which it seems like a traditional definition might be workable, because our terms are so specific, there are problems and corner-cases. is a HeLa cell a human? it's certainly an autonomous organism. it's certainly descended from the last common ancestor of a chimpanzee and a human being. but it's a single-celled organism that exists only in laboratory cultures, and lacks everything else we expect a human to have.)
so, uh, gender. "gender" is from the latin word "genus" meaning "kind." it is a doublet (that is, shares an etymological origin) with the words "genre" and (more distantly) "kin." obviously, a word's etymology is not its meaning. confusing the two is called the etymological fallacy. but originally when we talked about "gender" we were pretty explicitly talking about categories in general, and i think that's useful to keep in mind. incidentally, "sex" (also from Latin) has a similar etymology--it's related to "section," i.e., the creation of a category by dividing a group. though "sex" acquired something like its current meaning much earlier.
most human cultures group humans into two broad conceptual categories. this is based on a variety of traits, of which physical traits like genitals are seen as frequently foundational. some cultures explicitly create additional ancillary categories, or provide a means to move (often only partially) from one category to another. contemporarily, there has been an effort to distinguish "biological sex" (seen as what chromosomes you have, reflected by what genitals and other physical characteristics you have) from "gender" (seen as a question of social presentation).
i think this is a mistake. you might be able to spot why--biological sex is a conceptual category! most humans are xx or xy, but there is in fact a wide variety of sex-chromosomal arrangements that are possible. xx and xy are only the most common. biology is messy, and it's hard to tell how messy, because we don't routinely karyotype people. the existence of rare-but-noteworthy conditions like complete androgen insensitivity (frequently reuslting in a chromosomal "male" that is "mis"identified as and lives their whole life as a female) highlight that even within the purely biological realm, sex emerges only as two broad clusters, not as two clearly divided bins. moreover, a trans person who has been taking cross-sex hormones for many years is in a sort of willingly-imposed intersex state. so saying a trans woman is a "biological male" or a trans man is a "biological female" (especially if they have had an orchiectomy or hysterectomy and can no longer produce gametes of their respective assigned sex at birth) is sort of funny--we're privileging an (assumed) chromosomal arrangement over the biological facts on the ground. and while DNA does control a lot about how our bodies grow and develop, it can in fact be overridden! otherwise, cosmetic surgery, or hair dye, or LASIK surgery would all be exercises in futility.
"gender" is sometimes also talked about as a set of internal experiences. you "feel like" or "identify as" a particular gender. and while it's certainly plainly true for some people (both cis and trans), it seems not to be true of everybody (cis or trans), and for other people it's hard to say. not everybody has perfect access to their own feelings all the time. people get told they're lying about what they feel when that's socially inconvenient for other people. and internal states are impossible to measure or verify. they're also often pretty hard to put into words, and we mostly can access them only indirectly, by sidling up to them, or by trying to find other people whose experiences/thoughts/feelings seem to resonate with our own.
so i don't have a definition of gender for you, or an etiology, or even a very robust account. sorry! but i also think that anybody trying to tell you they do is operating from an understanding so narrow that they don't even begin to understand its limits.

Hey just wanted to say sorry for how aggressive my anons were a bit ago I was having an episode and taking it out on you because I started to delusively see you as one of my past abusers because some of the things you had said reminded me of what everyone who supported them and and the things that my abusers themself have said.
I still think you're a rape apologist in actions considering you think coercion based SA and rape is funny and nonexistent but I shouldn't have actively been aggressive and having a full blown psychotic episode in your inbox.
HEY READ THIS FIRST BIG CW FOR SA AND R*** DISCUSSION
Okay, now read the ask and then continue below.
Hey, anon. I'm sorry that happened to you, genuinely. It's okay, I don't mind. It's not that uncommon to get that kind of message in here.
While you were (aggressively) telling me to publish your previous asks, now I'm going to assume that you don't want me to since they were the product of an episode. I'm still going to do my best to respond to some of your statements here.
First-off, I have to tell you that I myself am an SA survivor. The main one happened in 2020 and I haven't been able to feel safe enough to connect intimately during sex since. As a demisexual, that's a special kind of shitty.
Another more complicated sexually traumatic incident as a teenager.
There's another one my memories are kind of weird around, so I just don't touch it.
But you need to understand that I take it very seriously, anon. I do.
I'm wondering if you would be able to re-read my document and see yourself in my position. Invalidated. Brushed aside. Attacked. Pushed to begging and then reprimanded for it. Left with an indefinite break for two weeks on top of the originally requested week, with no notification. Left to watch her celebrate her birthday without me.
She talks about BPD and FPs. She was the first person I was able to trust since 2.5 years of my personal nightmare of abuse. She knew this, and she just left me hanging.
We have friends that have heard them mention letting relationships "whither" instead of actually ending things healthily and fairly for the other party. They don't fucking care. They just do what's most emotionally convenient for them.
I don't know how you read through the whole thing and just brushed it off as nothing, unless you didn't actually read it and just listened to what Poppy and Liana have been saying. Please, read it for yourself if you haven't.
If you already have, then I'd ask you to read it again without such prejudice against me. I'm not operating off of any breakup feelings. I'm operating off of the testimonies of many, many people I've spoken to about the things she's done to them.
The kind of logic that she's using to justify calling what happened to her SA is the same kind of logic people use against trans people about disclosure.
I'm not defending SA. I'm saying that I know more of the story and Poppy is lying about several things that change things drastically.
I'm not doing this because of our breakup. I'll keep saying it as much as I have to: I'm with Hela now and we're fucking adorably, happily in love together. I got over the breakup in August.
And trust me, anon. You can wish your trauma on me, but I promise you I've got more than you might think. I'm not what they're saying I am. When it comes to what I do behind the scenes, I am meticulous and thorough and work very hard to consider as many potential consequences of decisions as possible.
Where did I say anything about "norms of a relationship?" I'm being genuine, anon, I'm confused. Please send me a link to whatever you're referring to so I can understand whatever this is.
As for the risk of this, I'm not going to discuss it publicly for now beyond saying this: the risk of harm from doing it is far less than the risk of harm from not.
You don't have to believe me, but I promise you, there's more to this than I can simply convey here and I fully believe that I'm doing the right thing.
This isn't about vengeance or bitterness over some breakup. This is about protecting people.
I hope you'll give me a chance when the next drop happens, anon. Please take care.
And please, notice how being around Poppy and reading her story makes you feel, physically, in your body.
If Poppy is running a community that's meant to be a safe haven for survivors of all kinds of trauma, explicitly including CSA...
Why is she using that same community to process the extremely raw trauma of her experience?
All debate about the semantics of her situation aside, this is an extremely fucking triggering subject.
At the very least, it's extremely irresponsible and unethical.

ALSO. the question of how masculine/queer women are seen on asgard is also a very interesting one, and one where i haven't been able to find much historical information to draw on so far...
first of all, we have the fact that "argr" does not precisely mean queer - it means "excessively feminine", including/especially "having excessive feminine lusts". so for men it means gay, but for women it means slut. i haven't come across any word meaning sapphic yet.
re: general attitudes: i've seen some sources argue that masculinity in women was mainly seen as good, but like... as someone acutely aware of the discrepancies between how people tend to *think* butches, trans men, etc are treated today and how they/we actually are... i do have my doubts lmao. in general, if you're claiming gender nonconformity is seen as good as a rule, you need some incredibly compelling evidence, because... if it's seen as good, why is it not the standard?
but also, masculine women in MCU asgard specifically are a really interesting phenomenon, because warfare is gendered as male, but they've always had female warriors, whether lone ones like sif or a force like the valkyries.
i think it's probably a kind of mirror of loki's magic situation - accepted (sometimes mandated!) because it's practically useful, but also really fraught with anxiety about going too far. "we need you to break gender norms, but we're still willing to punish you for it, so tread carefully and keep your mouth shut."
i can see the valkyries in particular as being subject to strict, nun-like rules to preserve their perceived femininity (maybe celibacy, but also maybe not, idk) - and i can also see the decision not to rebuild the valkyries after their massacre being framed as "progress". now that we've won and achieved peace, we're more advanced and we don't have to *resort* to making our poor, delicate women to fight any more! they can return home safe to the kitchen!
which would make sif's position really interesting - because, like thor and loki, she's harking back to a golden age... but at the same time, she's apparently trying to roll back "progress" and "civilisation" for her own pride.
and it's also interesting for hela, as a female heir, and as a female warrior who, afair, is apparently not a valkyrie (so perhaps operating on different rules)... and while sif had to fight to be allowed to be a warrior, hela was literally required.
hmm. hmmmmm

Reader insert / OC fic rec list
I'm feeling very petty today, so let's go with this.
__ __
Reader insert:
The White Wolf in the Woods - @pinkrelish
Genuinly great post war Obito characterisation, the best one out there in my opinion. It is funny and heartwarming and sad and you can watch Obito grow in front of your eyes. Can't recommend it enough.
cursed. - @lemony-snickers
Supremely underrated character study of Kakashi and his many moods out of the eyes of someone else. When I reached the end I cried. I can't believe this isn't making big numbers when it is so great.
the moon thus led by its angel - @chojuuro
One of those fics i keep recommending and recommending. This is mainly a Konan character study out of someone elses eyes and it is absolutely fantastic. Des creates this story so well and gets you invested so easily. I'm not even a Konan simp, but I adore this so so so much and its criminally underrated.
helping hands - @lemony-snickers
Ongoing Jane Austen like fic with Kakashi as the owner of an old mansion. Please I can't believe this one isn't doing well it is so interesting, such a classic historical romance with a little spice. Lem would say its because her writing is not good enough, but we all know thats not true. You should read it.
Bitter and Sweet - @whatshernameis
Very sweet Obito story that center his facial scars. It's nice to read about his insecurties about them, especially in a real world scenario. I was very in love with him after this and I would not mind a follow up at all if Hela ever wants to write one.
__ __
oc fics:
of letters and memories. - @uchihashisuii
Fantastic exploration of Jules' oc Akari's relationship with Shisui all through letters and scribbles. You don't need to know anything about either of them to read this. It grabs you by the arm and doesn't let you go, even when you what will happen - what has to happen. Jules is a fantastic author and this is such an interesting way to tell that story.
self exploration - @chojuuro
Des' oc Minoru figures out his (trans) identity by hiding behind a mask. I've always had a soft spot for this exploration of who minoru is, which has so much in it of what I like about des writing. A good metaphor, easy paragraphs that rope you in, understanding for the character... Linking this showed me I never reblogged it, which is a shame on my part as it is rent free in my mind.
lead the way - @queen-tabris
This needs more backstory, I understand that its hard to get in without all oc lore, but I promise you it is worth the read still. It's so wonderful and so painful and tell you so much about the Uchiha and Shisui in particular and Cara's oc and my love Uchiha Ren. It is sad, but sweet and so so well written.
bloom- @uchihashisuii
I put this on every fic rec list, I know, I know, but it just means so much to me. Beautiful Obito post war characterisation in which he learns to heal through gardening (and love).
To answer the call - @its-f4nf4n-again
Now this author will tell you reading this very long slow burn is not worth it, but they are a liar liar and its not true. I rarely read stuff that is already so far advanced and I'm glad I did here, because this is so wonderfully crafted. Kakashi seems so genuine, his changes comes gradually and is wonderful to read through. Its very easy to get attached to the characters in this fic and it's already a 3 year + project. Amazing!

GMMTV 2024 BINGO
Prediction/wishlist for the upcoming GMMTV event on October 17th. Thank you @icouldhyperfixatehim for creating this awesome bingo card.
I'm really late to the game but here's my bingo card for tomorrow's presscon!
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, what I really want is to be surprised: give us things we didn't know we wanted, take risks. I want the actors to have fun with their new roles and I want them to do different things than what they're used to. Oh and let actors rest between jobs and PLEASE give the directing teams enough time to edit their series, stop rushing them to shoot and edit.
More details under the cut about what I think we're getting, things I desperately want and things I'd really like to see.
Things I'm fairly sure we're getting:
Earthmix series
Firstkhao series (pretty much confirmed)
Geminifourth series (pretty much confirmed)
Some kind of season 2 for either/both Home School and Midnight Museum (HS I don't care for but khao+gun? SIGN ME UP / MM only bc I wouldn't say no to more TayGun and TorGun)
WinnySatang series (since they now have their logo I'd say it's pretty much confirmed as well)
Things I will riot if we don't get:
Mark fucking Pakin KISSING (I don't care who but my man got to have someone to kiss). Let’s be real Mark needs another main role or at the very least a very good supporting role because he is doing a SPECTACULAR job in OF as Nick. And I like that he isn't fixed in a CP so give me anything.
P'Jojo said somewhere that he'd like to do a domestic cutesy BL, please give the man what he wants. As a general rule, GMMTV should just let Jojo do whatever Jojo wants to do, period. (No P'Jojo is GMMTV 2024 Part 1)
More mature/adult BL (not necessarily romance office), just PLEASE LET THE BOYS AND GIRLS ACT THEIR AGE P L E A S E (or you know, use the youngins you have to play high schoolers ffs).
Neo Trai SERIOUS ROLE (listen Neo's got amazing comedic timing but he is EATING IT UP in OF).
Fluke Pusit main role (or really good supporting role) same for Gawin Caskey
AouBoom or just more Aou Thanaboon (haven't seen Hidden Agenda yet but I looooved him in BMF)
Another political drama (à la The Eclipse, Not Me)
More ensemble cast like Moonlight Chicken or Only Friends (not necessarily for the messy gay shenanigans but bc I LOVE seeing the boys act with/against each others)
If GMMTV is too scared to give us more GL (since 23.5 still hasn't aired) at least give us MORE secondary GL couples in series.
Things I would really like to see:
P’Aof recently said in a interview that he would like to work with actors he hasn't work with yet and that among gmmtv he hadn’t had the chance to work with Gun (or Krist) soooooooooo this could be the year is what I'm saying.
I want another OffGun (though I’m not holding my breath especially since we still haven't got Cooking Crush but ahem, P’Aof, P’Jojo, P'Waa anyone?)
Or even better: OffGunTayNew in the same series??? (BL or not I don't even care, I want them on the same set)
PLEASE give me something by the BMF production team (P'Waa Waasuthep, who also directed The Gifted) because Be My Favorite is definitely one of my favorite series of the year, it was perfect.
Since remakes are in right now, you know what I would love a Thai take on? Color Rush! I really liked this KBL, it had SUCH an interesting premise but… *sigh* it was way too short to be impactful imo (the vibe of the show though omg). (P'Nuchy? P'Golf?)
More trans characters with great supporting roles/strong storylines, more non-binary characters
More QUEER ELDERS!! Different generations of queer interacting (ex: the gay uncles in My Ride the series, they were EVERYTHING)
I would like to see more of Nonnie, I like what little we've seen of her in Only Friends.
VAMPIRES? SOULMATES?
I wouldn't say no to more mix and matching between the CP but helas we know how that's being received with OF from some fans... (my Firstmix heart is crying)

The past few months… They’d been hard. Losing May, Mr. Stark, and all of his relationships. Fighting his bad guys, along with the other Peters’ bad guys. Meeting two versions of himself, just for them to be whisked away like they never existed. One day, Peter witnesses... something. A green blob crashes into what used to be Stark Tower. Peter gets stabbed by a homeless man. A barefoot god appears in his apartment. He tells Peter to "Start Fresh", like he hasn't already done so. Wait, isn't this god dead? Things are weird in New York.

(This post is scheduled and I am not here until later tonight, if at all, since today is my move-in day at my new apartment. Still, I couldn't let the first day of Pride pass without observation since Queer Content is one of the load-bearing pillars of this entire blog. General Pride content in two parts underneath the cut.)
Firstly, every character on this blog is queer in some way. Please acknowledge them, and feel free to send them whatever gay little asks you'd like.
Rio, Izumi, and Anzu are bisexual trans women. Shinobu is a trans lesbian. Tsubasa is a nonbinary lesbian. Maki is a cis lesbian. Yi-Chun, Hana, and Kiyomi are bisexual cis women. Maxi is a bisexual trans man. Kousuke is a gay cis man. Juste is a transfeminine pansexual. Persephone is a trans woman who is still figuring things out. Jason and Amour are bisexual cis men. Hela... look I don't know what her deal is but it isn't cishet probably.
Secondly, I know it might come off like a platitude, but I wish everyone a nice month and want you all to remember that you're valid. If you're worried that you're not enough or that you don't belong in the community because you don't go to parades or own tons of rainbow stuff, or because you're in a relationship or situation that doesn't seem queer right away, or because you lack the money or stability to express yourself as you want, or just because you're still trying to figure out who you are, I want you to know that you're loved, supported, and valid.
I know the world is scary right now, and I know that internet drama makes it seem like we should all be at each other's throats, but my hope for this month is that we don't let it become about which corporation feels like we're a marketable demographic, or what niche discourse dominates the internet, or which politician or influencer says some heinous, inflammatory shit, but rather the love and support that we can give each other. I'm very proud of all of you.

Had an idea for a Persona OC who’s the “Death Social Link”, and party member.
She is also a trans girl, and like, her whole thing with “becoming a new person” (transitioning) and a lot of stuff surrounding that would be her Link’s deal.
The “Cool Big Sis” but is also kind of dumb (okay grades, school wise, but was a bit isolated growing up, so not best at social situations). Kind, tries to be supportive, but has a temper that is bubbling underneath.
Signature weapon is a machete (and if guns are used, a bolt-action hunting rifle).
.....
Her name is “Laura” for now? Might come up with something better.
....
Her starter Persona (or at least one she would have) would be Hela (Norse Myth)
