Continuation of the one with Kuina (I am working on the Haganezuka comic)
A 'What-If' situation where Kuina is the one monitoring the Final Selection with Kiriya instead of Kanata.

The Death (and Life) of the Ubuyashiki Children
Alright, so I think this panel from Muzan’s POV threw a LOT of us off:
Tumblr media
Which is quite understandable! The “were his wife and kids aware of his plans” line subconsciously puts that thought into our heads…were they? Weren’t they? Canon never explicitly tells us, and as a result, I’ve seen many people accusing Kagaya of dragging Amane, Hinaki, and Nichika down with him against their wills. But then, we see Kiriya wearing the family Haori. Which, theoretically, he should absolutely not have if the plan did not always involve him inheriting the role of Oyakata-sama. On top of that, Kiriya, Kanata, and Kuina were relocated to a safe house far enough away that they were safe from Muzan. Which means that they had to be…you know, moved there. I imagine that Kagaya just saying “Hey I’m gonna move three of our children away for no discernible reason! No you two stay behind because I said so! Yes haha everything is fine why do you ask :)” would not be very convincing. That means that the family had to know. This panel of the two deceased daughters supports the fact that they stayed behind of their own volition:
Tumblr media
And, of course, that leads us to one of the most tragic, forgotten panels in the entire manga:
Tumblr media
Amane is physically handing off the role to him along with the haori. Just imagine what that would be like. Being suddenly released from your role as a daughter of the Ubuyashiki family and promoted to Oyakata-sama in the span of a day, at eight years old, as your mother informs you that over half of your family is about to commit suicide. Her giving you your father’s haori, and knowing that he’s too sick to do so himself, and you will never see him wear it again because now you are him. How incredibly devastating. Kiriya is truly such a strong child, and so are his sisters. I hope that Kagaya, Amane, Hinaki, and Nichika got to watch them kick Muzan’s ass from the heavens.

Can you do ubuyashiki family headcanons
oh i love the ubuyashiki family so yes of course!! i really really wish we got more about how they and the demon slayer organization works and if kny were longer i would have loved for more arcs to go into it.
• while hinaki and nichika were tasked with assisting their father, kiriya, kuina and kanata help teach and raise, and receive the messenger crows. the one pictured with kagaya in the volume 16 cover is from a specific lineage that is always entrusted to the master to deliver messages pertaining to him and the family.
• kuina and kanata do not often speak to or address the hashira other than to relay orders, but through their messenger crows they learn little details about them and gossip with each other about what they hear.
• their upbringings and daily regimens were strict, but they did find moments to spend together as a family. the children would play music, or kagaya and amane would sit together outside and watch the kids play. they enjoyed a meal together before kiriya, kuina, and kanata left the estate for the last time before muzan's attack.
• kagaya's soothing voice and amicable nature was not a trait shared by everyone in the ubuyashiki lineage. it was something specifically he had. previous generations had hashira that disobeyed, hated, and even went against them, but kagaya uniquely had a personality that garnered the respect of every single one of his demon slayers.
• since his father committed suicide over the grief of watching the demon slayers die, kagaya initially grappled over the same feeling of feeling responsible for their deaths. but amane helped him overcome it by reminding him that each swordsman that beat final selection and joined the corps did so knowing it was a life-risking endeavor, and chose to lay their lives down to help defeat muzan.

Can you do headcanons of Kiriya Ubuyashiki and his grandkids???
Hello anon!! I would love to! I’ve thought about this a couple times in the past, I hope that Kiriya had a wonderful life after the events of canon. As for headcanons:
-He lives with his sisters in a much more humble estate after their previous home was destroyed. Because it’s no longer being used as a headquarters, there really is no need to live in a mansion, so they settle down in a nice house close to the Butterfly Estate.
-Kiriya is an academic through and through, just like his father. He spends much of his young adult years recording as much as he can possibly remember of his family history to make up for what was lost in the explosion.
-After becoming Oyakata-sama, Kiriya saw visions of his father telling him to trust in Nezuko. He still sees them to this day, as is common for the Ubuyashiki heads.
-Every once and awhile, he’ll be laughing with his sisters or wife only to look up and see his mom or dad watching fondly in the corner :’) <3
-He remained in touch with Yushiro after it all. They have not seen each other in person since Kiriya was a young man in his twenties, but they regularly exchange letters. Kiriya is very hopeful that Tamayo will be reincarnated soon so that Yushiro may finally find peace.
As for his grandkids:
Our boy Kiriya is the oldest man in Japan in chapter 205 of the manga. Assuming that it takes place 100 years after Muzan’s death, placing it in the modern era, Kiriya would be ~108. A manga extra tells us that on the night he turned 30, he was convinced that he would die of the curse. He stayed up with his wife, sisters, and children, expecting to pass away that night, but he lived and was overcome with emotion. This means he had kids by 30, and most likely grandkids by 50. By the time he is 108, he probably has great and great-great grandkids.
Headcanons:
-One of his grandsons moved to America in the 1970s with one of the Rengoku boys (their families remained very close after the war on demons). They attended college there together and remained very close, and there is now an American branch of the Ubuyashiki and Rengoku families. They come to visit every now and then, and are very excited to see their extended family.
-One of his granddaughters has a very successful career as a musician. They say that her voice has the power to move the masses.
-Kiriya’s grandkids all adore him. For the most part, they think of the war on demons as a tall tale their grandfather spun when they were young, but he doesn’t mind it that way. It proves that nature has finally heals, and he has the truth recorded in records anyway should it ever be needed.
-Kiriya burst into tears the first time he held his great-grandson, who stared up at him in wonder rather than crying. As he grew into a young man, his personality remained gentle and empathetic, but there is a strange wisdom to him that reaches beyond his years. Each time Kiriya sees him, he is overcome by the similarity between his bright young descendent and his own late father. He secretly wonders if his father’s spirit has been reincarnated.
-Kiriya named his first daughter after his mother, and when she had daughters of her own, they were given the names Hinaki and Nichika.
Anyway that’s what I’ve got!! Thanks for the opportunity to talk about the Ubuyashiki family, I love them dearly. And sorry for the late response!! I take a bit to get around to answering asks but I truly do enjoy it so thank you for sliding into the inbox :D

Wanted to draw babies and wholesome family content, found myself with Ubuyashikis? Muzan might disagree with this choice.
