Random Notes on Jet Lag: The Game Hide 🇨🇭 Seek episode 1

Spoilers. Sorry, I thought it was out for the non-paying public already and only realised after I posted.

Jet Lag is fun. It's not really more than that, but it doesn't want or need to be.

I was on a backpack train journey through Switzerland in September and this brings back so many memories. Like Lucerne-Andermatt-Göschenen? We did that journey, just in the other direction. I want to go back.

The line between Andermatt and Göschenen, the Schöllenenbahn, is severely underrated. You don't get a lot of views on that ten minute ride since it's mostly in tunnels, but the views you get into that deep gorge are amazing. Gorgeous, even.

Switzerland should really build a line from Andermatt to Airolo. Yes, I know what you're thinking, it's completely pointless, you can already get from Andermatt very quickly to Airolo by changing trains in Göschenen, there is no need for more Gotthard crossings, there are already two tunnels on the line. But to that I say: One and a half tunnels right now. Redundancy is great, and more rail lines is even better.

Alternatively or in addition, they should build the Grimseltunnel, because I think the lack of it is really going to hurt Ben for the next episode.

My guess for where Ben is hiding in episode 2: Vitznau. It's right by Lake Lucerne, it is on the railway network, but it is connected to the railway network in the weirdest way possible.

I haven't checked whether he could actually reach Vitznau, don't @ me. I guess it depends on whether ships are allowed (the rule, according to the podcast, is that the hiding spot must be on the rail network and get at least one train an hour, but they haven't clarified whether hiders and/or seekers have to use a train to get there)

But his options are severely limited. Going either east or west isn't great, he would basically stay in the same mountain valley until his time runs out. Could he even reach Brig? South could work, but he'd run out of country very quickly, so back north seems like the most likely option. Also, you know, lake.

I am not committed to Vitznau, but I am committed to either Lake Lucerne or Lake Zug, and probably in a ten kilometre radius around Arth. That hits a few smaller lakes as well, but I don't think it's either of them, and Zürichsee is right out.

Lake Lucerne (German: Vierwaldstättersee, literally "Lake of the four forested settlements" (in English usually translated as forest cantons), French: lac des Quatre-Cantons, Italian: lago dei Quattro Cantoni) is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country.

The name of Vierwaldstättersee is first used in the 16th century. Before the 16th century, the entire lake was known as Luzerner See "Lake Lucerne", as remains the English (and partly Italian, as Lago di Lucerna) usage. The (three) "Waldstätte(n)" (lit.: "forested sites/settlements", in English usually translated as forest cantons) since the 14th century were the confederate allies of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. The notion of "Four Waldstätten" (Vier Waldstätten), with the addition of the canton of Lucerne, is first recorded in the 1450s, in an addition to the "Silver Book" of Egloff Etterlin of Lucerne.

The lake has a complicated shape, with several sharp bends and four arms. It starts in the south–north bound Reuss Valley between steep cliffs above the Urnersee from Flüelen towards Brunnen to the north before it makes a sharp bend to the west where it continues into the Gersauer Becken. Here is also the deepest point of the lake with 214 m (702 ft). Even further west of it is the Buochser Bucht, but the lake sharply turns north again through the narrow opening between the Unter Nas (lower nose) of the Bürgenstock to the west and the Ober Nas (upper nose) of the Rigi to the east to reach the Vitznauer Bucht. In front of Vitznau below the Rigi the lake turns sharply west again to reach the center of a four-arm cross, called the Chrütztrichter (Cross Funnel). Here converge the Vitznauer Bucht with the Küssnachtersee from the north, the Luzernersee from the west, and the Horwer Bucht and the Stanser Trichter to the south, which is to be found right below the northeast side of the Pilatus and the west side of the Bürgenstock. At the very narrow pass between the east dropper of the Pilatus (called Lopper) and Stansstad the lake reaches its southwestern arm at Alpnachstad on the steep southern foothills of the Pilatus, the Alpnachersee. The lake drains its water into the Reuss in Lucerne from its arm called Luzernersee (which literally translates as Lake of Lucerne).

The entire lake has a total area of 114 km² (44 sq mi) at an elevation of 434 m (1,424 ft) a.s.l., and a maximum depth of 214 m (702 ft). Its volume is 11.8 km³. Much of the shoreline rises steeply into mountains up to 1,500 m above the lake, resulting in many picturesque views including those of the mountains Rigi and Pilatus.

The Reuss enters the lake at Flüelen, in the part called Urnersee (Lake of Uri, in the canton of Uri) and exits at Lucerne. The lake also receives the Muota at Brunnen, the Engelberger Aa at Buochs, and the Sarner Aa at Alpnachstad.

hi,

On July 26th 2023, I caught a flight to Zurich, Ready to explore the Swiss scene.

Zurich and I are still trying to hit it off. this place is seriously wallet draining haha.. Even Dubai seems budget-friendly compared to this city. But let's fast forward to August 4th – I've officially been in Switzerland for ten days.

Picture this: half of the stay was all about rainy days, giving me the perfect excuse to stay cozy indoors. but whenever the sun was out, I was exploring Switzerland. I've managed day trips to Vitznau, Schaffhausen, and Interlaken, and there's more to come!

yesterday i went to Grindelwald and Interlaken (friends recommendation)! The train ride from Zurich took around four hours, but it was not that bad due to the scenic views and ok seats. Grindelwald was so serene and beautiful, i can understand why many people visit this place. I secretly wanted to stay there for the night.

But hey, reality check: today, i rolled out of bed at 1 pm. Groceries at coop were a shocker too – 90 euros vanished for not much groceries.. Note to self: Lidl might be the move for the next round.

my Zurich chapter wraps up on August 28th. let's make the best of my stay here.

Man kann auch schwimmen, tauchen, segeln oder angeln. Für diejenigen, die eine Herausforderung suchen, gibt es auch viele Wander- und Radwege entlang des Sees und in den umliegenden Bergen. Es gibt viele Sehenswürdigkeiten am Vierwaldstättersee, darunter das Schloss Meggenhorn, das Verkehrshaus der Schweiz, das Richard Wagner Museum und das Swiss Knife Valley Besucherzentrum. Die Stadt Luzern, die am Ufer des Sees liegt, ist besonders reich an Geschichte und Kultur und bietet eine Vielzahl von Attraktionen für Touristen, darunter die Kapellbrücke und das Löwendenkmal. Meine Reise durch die Schweiz begann in Italien und führte mich über die Autobahn A2 - allerdings war der Gotthardtunnel gesperrt. Was aber nicht so schlimm war, weil ich dafür über das Gotthardmassiv fahren mußte. Ganz ehrlich? Du solltest kein ängstliche/r Autofahrer/in sein, denn die Höhenunterschiede rechts und links der Straße sind - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes - atemberaubend. Tipp von mir: Die Schweiz gehört telefontechnisch nicht zur EU. Bitte schaltet das Handy auf "kein Datenroaming" um oder sicher Dir ein entsprechendes Datenpaket bei Deinem Anbieter.

Rütli = Die Wiege der Schweiz

Eine der berühmtesten Sehenswürdigkeiten am Vierwaldstättersee ist jedoch der Rütli, ein historischer Ort, an dem die Gründung der Schweizerischen Eidgenossenschaft im Jahr 1291 stattfand. Hier kann man den "Rütli-Schwur" sehen, eine Gedenktafel, die an die historischen Ereignisse erinnert. Sieh dir diesen Beitrag auf Instagram an Ein Beitrag geteilt von zurück aus ... Rigi-Trip mit Moni

Am Morgen begeben sich Moni und ich zeitig auf den Weg auf DEN Rigi. Moni korrigiert mich auch jedes Mal mit: “Es heisst imfau DIE Rigi ond wei bla, bla, bla”. Scho guet! Wir gehen nach Luzern und nehmen dort das Schiff nach Vitznau. Von dort steigen wir in die Standseilbahn Richtung Kulm ein. Moni hat im Voraus alles abgeklärt und wir können direkt in die Bahn einsteigen und haben perfekte…
