𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝
Tumblr media
Summary: . . . you're drunk off your ass and your boyfriend, Eddie Munson, has to chase you down. that's it.
𝐚/𝐧: 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐢 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐥, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
“Eddddiiiiee,” you whined, trying to break out of the iron hold around your waist but no matter how much you pulled on your boyfriend’s arms, he wouldn’t release you.
“Baaaaaby!” He mocked, arms tightening around you as he pulled your back to his chest, eyes searching through the crowd to see if Harrington had gathered the rest of your rag tag group of friends.
The lot of you had been invited to a rager thrown by one of Argyle’s friends. You’d also neglected to mention to Eddie that you’d magically forgotten to eat more than a party sized bag of chips the entire day, so with three shots and a couple of strong mixed drinks in you, you were drunk. Very, sloppily, adorably drunk.
Eddie followed you around when you became impatient with him, huffing and puffing anytime you saw him because you knew he’d prevent you from getting more drunk—sure enough, he’d swoop in and take away any bottle, cup or drink you’d get your hands on.
He had made one crucial mistake though, having decided you were done for the night and with Robin throwing up a bright blue liquid—it was time to go. Eddie had had a twelve second conversation with Steve in which he would go and find Jonathan and Nancy, taking Robin with him.
When Eddie turned back to you, you were hastily shoving something in your mouth, something small enough to be concealed between your fingers.
“No, no, no!” He rushed over, taking your face in a hand and gently squeezing your cheeks to try to get you to open your mouth but it was too late, whatever pill it was, you had already swallowed, “Baby, what did you just put in your mouth?”
You giggled, pleased to be causing him a little trouble and made kissy faces at him instead of answering.
He sighed, wrapping his arms around you while he glared at everyone else.
Speed. Where the fuck did you even get it???
And that’s how you found yourself imprisoned in his arms, patience once more dwindling due to the cotton candy haze of your mind and the energy filling your body.
Eddie could feel your jitters and chanced a glance down at your shoes to confirm they hadn’t magically transformed into a pair of sneakers you could run off in. He’d made it a rule you couldn’t wear a pair if you’d be drinking (yeah, this wasn’t the first time you’d try to flee from him, drunk off your ass, and no, you didn’t do it all the time), and he was relieved the pair of short heels were still in place.
“Please, can you let me go?” You craned your neck back to pout up at him, eyes big as you peered at him from under your lashes.
You were too fucking cute for your own good.
The answer to your question was still no, he’d never let you go but you wouldn’t like that answer right now, so instead he said, “As soon as we’re home, sweet thing.”
That was not the answer you wanted to hear, either, and you scowled, slouching back into him as you glared at nothing.
Eddie was pleased when Steve, Nancy and Jonathan (carrying a passed out Robin over his shoulder) appeared in the crowd, making their way towards the pair of you.
When they got close, Nancy tripped and Eddie dove forward to catch her before she could meet the ground.
“Whoa, Wheeler!” He laughed as he helped her rise and steady, “Forgot how uncoordinated you are with some liquor in you.”
“The sad thing is I’m not even that drunk,” She admitted, grateful she hadn’t been subjected to the stickiness of the floor.
“Thanks Eddie,” Jonathan shifted Robin a little over his shoulder, trying not to touch her too much since she was prone to having physical reactions and he didn’t want to be punched in the face, “Can we leave now?”
“Yeah, let’s get out of here.”
Eddie turned back to you, ready to throw you over his shoulder if he needed to and his mouth dropped open, eyes widening when the spot you’d occupied, literally not even 10 inches away, was empty.
  Well, not completely.
The group looked down at the floor to see your heels left behind.
Eddie’s head darted towards the front door just in time to see you escape out of it.
  “Oh, shit, not again!”
Eddie swooped up your heels and ran after you, bashing into bodies on the way before he finally made it out of the doorway to see you sprinting across the lawn, your laughter ringing in the night air and he quickly gave chase.
  “BABY! BABY, STOP!”
You didn’t stop, having the time of your life as the need to flee from him became more urgent. It wasn’t anything personal, it was just nice to feel like the main character having a little silly, goofy moment and you wouldn’t feel silly and goofy when your boyfriend would be having you drink a ton of water to flush the fun from your system!
“No, I’m fast! Gotta go!” You called over your shoulder, still laughing as you met the asphalt of the street, lungs and legs doing a surprisingly good job at keeping you going and ahead of him.
Eddie kept going too, though he felt the burn of it, chest already heaving but he feared where your drunk ass could possibly end up if he gave up and stopped.
“BABY, I AM BEGGING YOU, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST, STOP RUNNING!”
He chased you down several streets, through lawns— apparently you were suddenly good at parkour, jumping over children’s toys and playsets he crashed into—and just when he was finally beginning to think you’d never stop, you started to slow.
Not because you wanted to stop the game or anything, you’d just spent your time running away from your boyfriend thinking about how cute he was. And so sweet and good to you. You longed for him. He always took care of you—drunk or not—gave you tons of smooches, held you whenever you were near, went in search of you when you weren’t, peppered your face in kisses like Pepe Le Pew did to that cat he was always chasing around in the Looney Tunes cartoons and professing his love for you in a shitty French accent, and he always cuddled with you, giving you head scratchies while the two of you lay in bed.
  WAIT.
You’d get cuddles, kisses and head scratchies tonight!!!!!
You’d slowed in your thought process, and suddenly you’d gone from eager to get away from Eddie for no real reason, to desperate to be in his arms so you turned around and ran towards him.
Eddie hadn’t been expecting that, the two of you collided, but he wrapped his arms around you to keep you from toppling over.
See??? You knew he’d hold you.
“Gandalf the freaking Grey, baby, you are trouble and too damn fast,” he heaved out, arms tightening as he smashed you to his chest for a tight hug, the hand not clutching your heel straps cradling the back of your head. Eddie was relieved to have you safe in his arms again.
“I’m fast as fuck, I’m a track star,” you chirped, nuzzling happily into the crook of his neck and making it hard for him to be even a little upset with you.
“No you’re not and no more running,” You made a sound of surprise as he quite literally swept you off your feet and carried you back to the house party you fled from, bridal style.
You didn’t fight him, keen on pressing kisses to his neck, pretty face and just about anywhere your lips could reach.
Halfway there, you ran into Steve and Jonathan practically limping. Both were heaving and covered in sweat, the front of their shirts stained dark with it.
“Oh, thank god! No more running. My side hurts, I think I popped something.” Steve said between gaps of panting.
Jonathan couldn’t even speak, the poor guy looked like he was ready to collapse.
  “Where are the girls?”
“On. Front. Lawn.” Jonathan finally wheezed out, they’d left Robin snoozing in Nancy’s lap on the lawn while they ran to help (but not really) Eddie catch you.
When you were finally home, squeaky clean after a shared shower with Eddie—you still seemed to have enough energy for one due to your high, though the alcohol was making you a little sleepy—and you were in bed, curled into him with your head nuzzling into the crook of his neck as his fingers massaged your scalp and nearly put you in a coma, he mumbled, “You little shit.”
You giggled, eyes still shut as his chest shook beneath you with his own chuckles.
  “You still love me?”
“Always,” Then, after a brief and comfortable silence, “Baby, you should’ve been on the track team.”
“Mmm, I don’t really like running.”
  And again, “You little shit!”

Steddie brainrot continues to worsen to a concerning degree but here's a crack idea that is absolutely sending me:
Famous Spicy Six in which Jonathon is a director who decides to work on a passion project: a Scooby-Doo movie. His ideal cast is as follows:
Nancy Wheeler (investigative journalist with a few special appearances on crime dramas) as Daphne Blake
Argyle (an actor with a habit of playing small parts; he acts only because he thinks it's fun, so he's not concerned with significant roles) as Shaggy Rogers
Robin Buckley (a well-known voice actor who is more well-known for her social media posts and clap-backs) as Velma Dinkley
Steve Harrington (basketball star who is also more well-known for his social media clap-backs and for being Corroded Coffin's number one fan) as Fred Jones
Eddie Munson (frontman for Corroded Coffin, an insanely popular metal/punk/rock band and "infamous" for unashamedly posting Steve Harrington thirst tweets) as the voice of Scooby-Doo
Corroded Coffin is also creating an entirely new, original soundtrack for the movie
And because I think it's funnier this way, this is also an AU where the Upside Down still happened, so Jonathon just calls his friends up and is like "Okay, so hear me out"
The absolute insanity that breaks out when both the movie and cast are announced because nobody can figure out how Jonathon managed to convince all these powerhouses to join his movie.
The further screaming online after one of the movie promo interviews where a reporter asks how they all agreed to the movie and Nancy hits them with, "Well, Jonathon asked, and he never asks for anything."
Which leads to the discovery that they all knew each other in high school, and the reporter jokingly asks if that means they've all dated each other, too, which leads to Eddie jumping in with absolute delight like, "Well, that's a funny story, there. See, Stevie here dated Nancy, who then dated Jonathon when they broke up, who then dated Argyle after they broke up. And I thought Stevie and Robin were dating, so I was very confused when I saw Robin and Nancy kissing. But then I found out that Robin was a true-blue lesbian, which meant Stevie here was open for the taking, and we've been banging ever since."
and Steve is just sitting there, head in his hands while Robin cackles and decides to tell the reporter all about Steve's "fuck I have a crush on Eddie" crisis
This interview, of course, leads to even more freaking out online and comments like "I know I asked for poly Scooby gang, but this is ridiculous," and "I can't believe that in this, the year of our lord 20xx, ScoobyXFreddy became a canon ship," and "if I had a nickel for every romantic relationship the Scooby gang actors have had with each other, I'd have five nickels, which is way more than any of us fucking expected to have," and "suddenly Eddie Munson's thirst tweets make a lot more sense, but can we talk about Steve Harrington's CC tweets now," and "everyone say thank you to Eddie Munson for revealing that mess of a relationship map," and "finally, the canon lesbian velma and daphne we deserve"
The movie is a box office hit, btw, and bloopers from filming roll with the credits, among which is Eddie Munson making Steve Harrington lose his shit laughing on set while dressed in a Scooby Doo onesie and singing Corroded Coffin songs with his Scooby Voice

I saw a video today that said, “It’s very uncomfortable as an adult when your friend starts to date somebody who sucks, and you’re all looking at each other going ‘Guys, if this is the person who makes them happy…I think collectively as a unit we can agree that we would rather see them sad. So what's the plan?’”
And immediately went: modern Steddie AU were Steve dates his high school friend Tommy and everyone is tearing their hair out over how awful he’s being treated.
Ft. the Party, led by Dustin, hounding Eddie “I could get a man in a SECOND, I just CHOOSE not to date” Munson for help
However:
Eddie is mostly thinking the entire thing is a joke (King Steve and Tommy Hagan? Gay? Together?? Nice try Henderson.) until he runs into Robin. She laments that yeah, they’re bi, but more importantly, Tommy is fucking awful and Steve refuses to see it.
2. Eddie, maybe, kind of, still has a crush on Steve ("Stop laughing Gareth, everyone has--had! Had a crush on him!") and the guy was never THAT bad in high school---but Tommy Hagan definitely was and a little revenge would be fun.
and finally;
3. Instead of going with the kids' well intentioned but very misguided “Let’s get Eddie to Steal Steve” plan, Eddie meets up with the Robin/Nancy/Jonathan/Argyle/Chrissy dream team to figure out how to prove to Steve that Tommy is horrible.
Bonus: Robin and Nancy come up with a full proof multi step plan that involves Eddie pissing off Tommy in ways that look completely innocent. The hope is that Steve will see how controlling and unreasonable Tommy is, and break it off.
This hurts no one and just highlights to Steve Tommy's behavior.
Of course, Eddie goes off the rails immediately upon meeting Steve.
Instead of following The Plan, he, with the kids permission and help, gets Tommy to get blow up about THEM.
This is far more successful.
Bonus x2: A large amount of shenanigan's with the kids vs Tommy are involved. As is a scene were Steve breaks down and admits he knows Tommy is terrible, but Tommy puts up with him and Steve "knows how he is."
Eddie goes home, prints out a picture of Tommy and throws cheap ren fair daggers at it for at least three solid hours while he tries to think up ways to prove to Steve Harrington that his parents are wrong, hes very lovable actually.
In fact Eddie would very much like a shot at trying it out, thanks!
(It is also, inevitably, successful.)

NANCE: Yes, I told you guys that.
NANCE: Besides, you guys already know that Eddie hates having his picture taken. We’re lucky we ever got picture proof to begin with.
DINGUS: also i JUST facetimed them??? physically saw them?? your lack of trust in me and nance kind of hurts jon
BIRDIE: @NANCE hey can you call ME babe next?
HOUR TWENTY FOUR – 4:00 PM
“Hey there, love birds. Glad to see you didn’t kill each other.”
Steve.
You wait for Eddie’s arm to leave you, for him to put space between the two of you, but he doesn’t. He keeps you pressed flush to his side as if the sudden arrival of a friend doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference.
“Hey, Harrington,” he even casually greets first.
He’s making no move to get up off the floor.
Just a little bit longer. Let me sit here and live in this moment a little bit longer.
“Munson,” Steve nods to Eddie before setting his sights on you, “Doll. Nice to see you, kind of glad I’m not having to fish you out of the canals.”
You feel it — Eddie’s arm tenses behind you ever so slightly at Steve’s nickname. Clearly, it’s still a sore spot for him to work through.
“I was feeling generous,” Eddie shrugs as if he hadn’t just revealed a flash of jealousy to you. You’re not even sure if he knows that you felt it. But it was there, in the slightest tightening of his grip and the flexing of his bicep behind your shoulder.
“Generous? I think you were feeling friendly,” Steve waves his hand between the two of you, as if he thought he was pointing out the obvious.
If he thought this was close, he’d faint at the imagery of you on the kitchen counter, Eddie’s face between your legs as he begged for you to let him touch you.
Just as you had noticed Eddie’s jealousy, he notices the way you suddenly heat up, shifting in your seat ever so slightly. That pull on the corner of his lips tells you all you need to know. You kind of hate how easily the two of you can finally read each other. You kind of love the way he’s looking at you as if he’s thinking the exact same thing.
“Do I get my free punch now?” you finally speak up, tone flat as you muster a glare in Steve’s direction. You’re forgoing all polite and pretend oblivion.
Every single one of you here knows what happened. The bare bones of it, at least.
Eddie looks at you curiously, “Excuse me?”
Steve only grins, holding out his arms as if welcoming you, “Take your best shot.”
You stand quickly, and Steve even flinches. He clearly had thought it was all a bit, but you were deathly serious. After the night you’d had, you wanted to punch something, anything.
“Hold on,” Eddie fumbles to follow you as you stand in front of Steve, your eyebrow cocked as you pause, “Hold on, why are you punching Harrington?”
“Oh, I don’t know. ‘She’d never go for me, why would she go for you?’” you remind him, and fully expect for hurt to flash across his face. Instead, merriment continues to tug on his lips, “That ring a bell?”
“It might,” Eddie drawls, slowing down his movement to stand more casually, no longer in a rush to break up the fight. His eyes flash with something, with some sort of affection as your hand curls into a fist threateningly and you continue to glare daggers at Steve, “‘S cute to see you defending my honor, sweetheart.”
Your knees almost physically wobble. The nickname that once struck such anger and irritation in you has become your favorite thing, something that can so easily elicit such a physical reaction. Any taunting has dissipated from his tone when he falls from his tongue now. Adoration takes its place.
Steve looks between you two for a second before his face twists up, “God, I think I liked it better when you two hated each other.”
“Never really hated each other,” Eddie corrects Steve, but his eyes never leave yours.
“Right, must have slipped my mind.”
One of the questions that had been torturing you has now been answered — Eddie would, in fact, be acting differently around your friends. It’s almost enough that you feel no need to punch Steve.
Almost.
“Where do you want it?” you tear your gaze from Eddie, looking back to Steve now expectantly, “Cheek? Nose? Chin? Jaw?”
Steve’s eyes widen. “My God, have you just been dreaming of this moment for the last hour?”
“I have.”
Eddie leans back against the wall, still watching and still smirking as he crosses his arms.
“I know Eddie’s your boyfriend now but-“
“He’s not my boyfriend,” you correct him quickly, but something inside of you twists at saying that.
He wasn’t your boyfriend. You two had just agreed you’d need time apart before even thinking of exploring what this new chapter will bring you two. So why does it feel so wrong? Why do you suddenly feel like a pathetic teenager, desperate to bestow some cheesy title upon her crush?
Eddie nods when you suddenly look at him, as if he can read your mind, “I’m not her boyfriend. Just… her scary dog.”
Scary dog privilege. And God, does that moment feel light years in the past now. Years ago rather than hours ago. His promise to protect you suddenly rings truer now. If you ever did find yourself in trouble, you knew he’d answer your call. You knew now why his protection only extended to you. You finally, finally understood.
“Scary dog?” Steve squints at Eddie, and his judgmental demeanor has fully returned, “What the fuck does that even mea-“
He doesn’t get to finish the sardonic sentiment. The slap of your palm interrupts him.
“Ow!” he yelps out, head snapping from the force of the hit and hands already coming up defensively.
Eddie pushes off the wall the moment Steve’s hands are up in the air, “Lay a hand on her in retaliation, Harrington, and I’m breaking your arm.”
All the joking, cocky demeanor has faded. Like he had said — scary dog privilege. It applies to more than just pricks at the bar.
“I’m not,” Steve grumbles, rubbing at the red imprint now singing his cheek, “Jesus Christ, I said a punch.”
You fight a smile, “I don’t know how to throw a punch.”
“I can teach you,” Eddie pipes up, now standing beside you, hovering in your orbit.
“Don’t-“ Steve puts out a warning finger, “-encourage her. I only said you could punch me because I knew you couldn’t throw a punch!” he continues to cradle his face, now pouting at you, “Do you feel better now?”
You only answer with a triumphant smile. Because your palm is stinging, and you know violence isn’t the answer, but yeah. You do feel a little bit better.
“I don’t,” Eddie hums. He only has to take one step forward for Steve to back up, throwing out defensive eyes as he narrows his eyes, “Think I deserve to get a slap in, too, Stevie.”
“Fuck that,” Steve spits, eyes wide with genuine fear that makes you want to giggle, “You do know how to throw a punch. If I’m letting you get a free one in, I deserve twenty four hours notice.”
“Then consider this your notice.”
Is this what I had always been missing out on?
You always knew Eddie was playful with everyone, had witnessed how he joked with friends, but you’d never been included. The thought that this was the new normal makes your heart nearly burst. To be on Eddie’s side finally, to be in his good graces properly, makes you feel as if you belong more than any private movie night with Steve or impromptu dinner date with Robin. More than any night out with Nancy. More than any smoke session with Argyle, and more than any literature debate with Jonathan.
It’s as if Eddie was the missing link. You never felt you belonged, because you’d always ached for your rightful spot at his side, not just amongst the group.
The three of you stand in a makeshift circle and every single one of you smiles. Even Steve, through his slipping pout and swollen cheek, is grinning.
Suddenly, it’s not quite as heavy as it once felt.
Everything has changed. Leaving now is not leaving forever.
“I’d pay to see that,” you comment, taking a daring step to bump shoulders with Eddie. His eyes meet yours, his dimples come to life, and suddenly — you’re home, “Think I can get a front row seat to you beating Steve’s ass?”
Steve starts to protest but Eddie only nods eagerly, “I think that can be arranged.”
“I am once again reminding you two that I liked your screaming matches more than whatever this,” his hand flails, motioning to the way you two are standing closer to one another than you are him, “whole teaming-up-against-me bit is.”
“We’re not dating,” you’re reiterating as Eddie laughs out, “Stop being a crybaby.”
You look at one another again. Another foot in the door of your newfound home, another look into your new place to rest your head. It’s as if you’re just now realizing you’ve spent the entire year missing Eddie, even as he was right there in front of you.
“Well, God save us all when you two are finally dating,” Steve mumbles with a shake of his head.
“If-“ Eddie starts to correct, but you stop him.
It’s not an if when it comes to you two dating, you decide. It’s a when.
“I’ll send a gift basket when the day comes,” you snark. The look that Eddie sends you could heal every wound ever left behind, right then and there.
You’re home. When Eddie throws his arm around your shoulders and Steve rolls his eyes at you two (affectionately, even if he’d deny it), you know you’re home.
But then, you actually do have to go home.
You try to put it off. The three of you occupy Eddie’s living room for a while, Steve complaining about the way Robin woke him up endlessly throughout the night and how he never did finish that assignment due in his English Literature class. It reminds you that life will continue on; you have to go back to work and school, deal with daily annoyances that should seem bigger than all that’s happened with Eddie tonight, but they don’t. They all seem minuscule now, really.
“Do we still have to send photo proof?” Eddie asks once Steve’s tirade has waned. You’re sat between the two boys, Steve’s body turned almost completely to face the two of you while you and Eddie slowly sink back into the cushions.
You’re sure if Steve knew the activities that had taken place on this couch, he would not be sitting so comfortably. If at all.
Steve sighs at the mention of the bet, “You probably should. Jonathan’s been antsy about it the entire time. Me and Nance tried to cover for you guys, lying about calling and stuff but-“
“Why would you lie?” you inquire, uncurling a bit from your overly comfortable position to stop from falling asleep and actually participate in the conversation.
“Because, unlike the other idiots,” Steve gives a pointed look at you and then Eddie, “We had a hunch about what was going on here. And it’s about time, by the way.”
You think over his words for a second before you look at Eddie with sudden embarrassment, “Have you- Oh my God, have you been telling Nancy what we’ve been doing?”
“What?” Eddie sits up straighter, looking just as panicked, “No. No, absolutely not, I-“
“What have you guys been doing?”
Both of you ignore Steve as Eddie continues on.
“-just spoke to her on the phone once or twice. But I didn’t give her any details. Have you been telling Steve what we did?”
Steve, still being ignored, repeats himself, “What have you guys been doing?”
“Absolutely not,” you scrunch your nose at the thought of being that honest with Steve. You loved him, truly, but not enough to tell him about those kinds of things, “I’d rather sleep in the canals than tell him.”
“What have you guys been doing?”
Eddie’s eyebrows shoot up, and he mockingly stabs himself, “Ouch, sweetheart.”
“Not like that,” you backtrack, but more casually as the worry of Steve and Nancy knowing the truth, “I just meant-“
Eddie interrupts with a hand on your knee and a smile on his face, “I know what you meant. I’m just fucking with you. I feel the same way with Nance.”
“Guys?” Steve grows further impatient, “I- What the fuck did you guys do? Oh my God, is it even safe to sit on this fucking couch right now?”
“You don’t wanna know,” you say.
“No, it isn’t,” Eddie says.
It earns him a slap on his stomach as he leans over in laughter at the way Steve launches out of his seat.
“You guys- No. No fucking way,” Steve brushes at the back of his jeans, as if they’re contaminated, “Nope. No way. You’re just fucking with me, Munson.”
“Am I?”
Another slap lands on Eddie’s shoulder as he laughs harder.
“Steve,” you turn to your friend, trying to smile sweetly, “Sit back down.”
“No.”
“You just said you don’t believe-“
“We should get going,” Steve insists through his blush, “You two should take your final picture and we should get going.”
Eddie finally stops chuckling, leaning back up and against the armrest, his ankle cross in front of your shins as he stretches his legs out and sighs, “God, you should see your face right now, Harrington.”
Steve’s scowl deepens, “It’s not funny. Take the fucking photo so we can go.”
You make no move to dig out your phone, because you know. You know once you take this photo, you’ll be leaving, and this will all be over. Once you step foot back into that hallway, time apart begins. Learning how to navigate this new unknown with Eddie begins. It terrifies you, it saddens you, it exhausts you. You hadn’t been prepared for this part of the night.
Even before the confessions, you hadn’t given much thought to the ending of the twenty four hours. You’d assumed it would end in bloodshed and a larger than life fight, probably before the clock even ran out. You’d never assumed it could end in laughing, inside jokes between you and Eddie, in something not only bitter but also sweet.
“Phone, sweetheart,” Eddie whispers as he leans forward and holds out his hand with the palm up, “Before we traumatize the poor guy any further.”
“I will wait in the car, I swear to God-“ Steve starts to protest as you finally dig your phone out of your pocket.
You’re looking down, unable to meet Eddie’s gaze in fear of him picking up on your faint sadness, as you mumble, “Get your panties out of their twist, Steve. Jesus.”
Eddie snorts at that, right as you pass your phone over.
Steve doesn’t comment when you willingly tell Eddie the code to unlock your phone, or the way you let him hold it rather than you. He doesn’t comment on the arm that Eddie seems to constantly keep around you now.
He’s doing it while he can. Cherishing being able to hold you at any capacity before you leave and the distance begins. The time apart you two agreed upon won’t be for forever, but it still kills a buried part of him that had just begun to sprout roots again. A thing made of hope that he planned to tend to this time around.
“So, how do we wanna do this?” he asks in a strained tone, as if asking that question and throttling you two closer to the finish line physically pains him.
You hope it pains him, selfishly, because it pains you. “No idea.”
“We’ve gotta make it a good one.”
“We do.”
Eddie suddenly lights up with an idea as his thumb sweeps across your screen, opening your photos’ app and scrolling up to the first picture you two had taken at the beginning of this night.
“Up for a trip down nostalgia road?” he teases, wiggling his brows as he holds the phone up for you to get a clearer view of the picture.
Eddie, flipping off the camera and scowling. You, hardly smiling with a pathetic thumbs up.
“Yeah,” you breathe out, nodding slowly.
It’s unspoken, what happens next. The camera app is opened and Eddie returns your phone to your grasp. The two of you resituate to mimic the photo as closely as possible while Steve fiddles with some of the items on Eddie’s entertainment center.
You stretch out your arm, put your thumb up into view, blink away any tears burning the back of your eyes. Eddie’s hand has taken position as well.
You snap the photo before you can think too hard on it.
“Think that’ll be the winner?” Eddie curiously asks as you immediately bring the phone close to your face, swiping to view the snapshot just taken. And when you do, with the refreshed memory of that first photo, your heart physically aches.
Almost an identical image. At a quick glance, it’s the same Eddie and the same you from the first one. But the similarities fade the moment you look closer. Eddie isn’t scowling, not genuinely – those damn dimples are even making an appearance as his eyes were squinted up in a valiant effort to fight off the smile he wears now. And your smile, your smile, is no longer half-assed. It’s something real, something full, something even a bit sad. The same face you wear when saying goodbye to an old friend and trying to hold back any tears until their train has long since left the station. You can almost physically see your vines in this photo wrapping around the two of you, clinging so desperately to avoid any separation. Time apart. You’re regretting suggesting that now.
It’s a cute photo. A photo of two friends, if you could call yourself and Eddie that now.
“All done?” Steve interrupts the moment, both of you and Eddie only staring at the photo. You take a peak at him out of your peripherals, and you can see it written plainly on his face – he’s feeling all the same emotions as you. Something sad, something nostalgic, something reluctant. “Not to rush the process but… I may or may not have a hot date tonight to get ready for.”
Eddie tears his gaze from the photo, “A hot date?”
“A hot date,” Steve nods, a boyish grin gracing his lips, “And I’m picking her up in… t-minus…” he pauses, checking his watch, “Three hours.”
“Smart move. Charm her before I rearrange your face and all.”
Steve throws his head back in a groan, “You two won’t be letting that go any time soon, will you?”
“Nope,” you chime in as you swipe to open up the groupchat, not offering Steve a single glance until you’ve sent off the final addition of photo proof to the rest of your friends. You consider adding some sort of sarcastic comment, some well earned bragging and a boisterous told you so, but you don’t.
It doesn’t feel like you’ve won. Leaving this apartment, this battleground, with all the new bruises and healed wounds you’ve acquired over the span of the twenty four hours doesn’t taste like victory. Really, it tastes like… nothing.
There’s no victory, no solid ending for you to cling to. It’s simply ending and there’s still thousands of words you have to say to Eddie. You need more time, another twenty four hours, to fill with every single thing you never told him. More casual confessions of honesty, more hours wasted in his bed, more insignificant bickering to partake in. It’s all on your tongue and desperate for attention, and yet, you know you can’t succumb to it.
You have to go. It’s the last thing you want to do, but you have to.
Steve checks his phone when it buzzes with the notification of your message you sent and opens his mouth, no doubt about to comment on your lack of words with the message, but you’re already standing. It’s like ripping off a bandaid. You need to get it over with, get out of this apartment before you decide you’d rather sink right into these couch cushions and decay just to ensure you never have to really leave.
Eddie’s quick to follow.
“Let’s go,” you say to Steve, grabbing up your bag, not looking at Eddie at the risk of losing all composure.
Neither boy fights you, following you right up to the front door. Steve leads, opening it back up as reality slams you in the chest. As if there’s an invisible barrier here, and you know that in crossing it, you’ll be leaving a piece of yourself behind in apartment 2C.
Leaving now is not leaving forever.
But it sure does feel like it.
Steve awkwardly looks over your shoulder at Eddie, some silent communication you only see his half of as he shrugs and does a timid wave, turning to leave.
One foot hangs midair, your toes beginning to push through that barrier, when Eddie grabs you.
“Hey,” he breathes as he wraps his fingers around your bicep, forcing you to turn to face him. You let him, your body moving to his accord but your eyes still not meeting his, “You good?”
You take a deep breath in through your nose, “Me? Yeah. Yeah, I’m great. I’m… I’m good.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive?”
“Will you look at me, then?”
Reluctantly, so very reluctantly, your eyes meet his. Big, brown doe eyes. This close to them, you can see the way they shine to match yours. You both probably look insane to Steve right now, but you don’t care. Between the sleep deprivation and all the emotions you’ve had to experience over the last day, the tears are well earned.
You almost reach out and kiss him. You almost press up onto your toes and put your lips on his, almost pour every emotion you’re feeling in the moment into a far from innocent peck.
But you don’t.
“We did it,” you croak blandly, “We won the bet.”
As if the Universe is screaming in agreement, you can hear a chime in the distance signifying the hour. Probably the church you recall passing in the middle of the night when the two of you had ventured off to the parking garage. It almost feels as if it’s mocking you.
“We did it,” he echoes as his grip on your bicep loosens. You expect him to let it fall back to his side, nearly begging out loud for him to retract his touch from you so you don’t do something stupid like stay.
You swallow down thick emotions, just like molasses, “I guess I’ll see you around, yeah?”
Time. You two needed time apart.
“Yeah,” he sighs, as he does the one thing you had somehow hoped he wouldn’t yet yearned for ardently – the hand that had wrapped around your arm now cups your cheek, thumb stroking your skin so softly, you nearly melt in his doorway, “I’ll see you around, sweetheart.”
It doesn’t taste like victory, yet it doesn’t taste quite like loss. It’s bittersweet.
You still don’t kiss him. And he doesn’t kiss you, even as his touch against your cheek lingers so heavily before he pulls away.
You cross the barrier and find you were right. You feel that piece of you tear off and flutter to the ground, and you begin to wonder when you’ll have the chance to come back and reclaim not just it, but Eddie.
Steve didn’t speak much on the drive back to your dorm, and you’re sort of grateful.
If you were a good friend, you’d ask more about his date. You’d get him giddy as he spills the details about this girl and his plans for the night, chastise and tease him all in good fun. You’d be smiling and making plans for coffee tomorrow morning so he could tell you all about how the date went.
But you’re not a good friend.
You sit in your silence the entire drive, and you pick at your nails, and you selfishly stay focused on Eddie. On all of your own qualms and all your own issues, worrying about what comes next and already feeling your chest tighten the moment you start to think about when see you around will come.
The two of you never discussed that, did you? There was no discussion of just how much time was needed apart.
Steve shifts the car into park in the west lot, right outside your building, “Alright, stop making your cuticles bleed for two seconds and tell me what’s wrong.”
Your hands pause exactly as he requests, caught red-handed. “Nothing’s wrong.”
“Something’s obviously wrong. I told you to go get him – and yet, he’s still not your boyfriend.”
“It’s complicated,” your voice finally breaks. There’s no tears this time, just confusion and desperation clawing at your throat.
Because, was it complicated? Was it really?
The last year was what had been complicated. All the pretending and the fights and the tension. All the false beliefs and all the lies overlapping with one another. That was complicated. But this? The feelings you harbored and finally acknowledged for the boy you just left behind?
That wasn’t really complicated.
And Steve knows this, you can hear it in his sigh, “I think that’s the issue.”
“What?” you turn your head towards him, scrunch your brows, even your breathing and try to shoo away the image of Eddie’s wet eyes.
You wish you would have kissed him.
“Look, i just think you two keep making things complicated when they should be simple-”
You didn’t want to hear it. Childish as it might be, you do not want to have to hear this speech. Because you know Steve’s right.
“I’ll see you later, Steve.”
“Wait-”
You don’t wait. You slam the door in his face once you’ve got your footing outside of his car, truly earning your title of bad friend.
Awful. You weren’t just a bad friend, you were an awful friend.
And yet you can’t think on it, leaving it be until you had the time to properly dwell on how you’d apologize later. All you care about now is getting inside your dorm, moping and being miserable on your own. Your strides are longer and faster than they were even when you’d backtracked to Eddie’s apartment, determined to get behind closed doors and to properly mourn all that had been gained and all that had been lost in the last twenty four hours.
Twenty four hours ago, you were reluctant to even step foot in Eddie’s apartment. And now, it’s the only place you really want to be.
Luck refuses to be on your side as you slam into your dorm room, sweaty and tired and just fucking emotional, only to find your roommate there. There will be no dramatic crying, no cinematic scene with your back pressed to the door as you fight back sobs, it seems.
“You look rough,” is all she notes, sparing you a second glance before she returns to whatever she was tasking on at her desk. Her makeup, you think.
Good. Maybe she’ll be heading out, leaving you to suffer alone like you wanted.
“Yeah,” is all you can answer her as the door clicks shut behind you.
Rough’s a good way to put it.
“Think you’ll be here tonight?” she asks, still distracted, “Troy and I are hanging out today – he spent the night here last night, by the way – and if you’re gone again, I was thinking about inviting him back over. Only if you’re cool with it, or already have plans, though. Our RA has this final and I didn’t even have to sneak him in last night-”
She continues on her rambles, never looking your way as you drop your bag onto your bed, and quickly lift yourself to lay right next to it.
Normal. You were having to go back to fucking normal. Your worries were no longer revolving around Eddie or making it through the next hour, no longer preoccupied with keeping your friends up to date in order to ensure a payout of five hundred dollars – now, you just had to worry about boys named Troy and possible room checks by your RA. Finals to be taken, essays to be finished, shifts to be covered at the diner so you’d have enough cash to go out with your friends next weekend.
You should be relieved. But it all just feels impossibly heavy.
Your roommate catches on quickly, and when you only reply to let her know you’ll be here tonight, she stops talking. She focuses on finishing her makeup and gathering her things, hardly even offering you a goodbye as you shift to curl up more comfortably in the center of your mattress.
You should also know better than what you decide to do next. You can’t help it, though, as you tug your phone out of your pocket and unlock it. You don’t listen to the voice inside your head that screams stop as you click on your photos’ app. Ignore the animal inside that whines as you scroll, and you click on the very first photo of you and Eddie.
It’s painful, but you have nothing better to do in your solitude. You don’t linger on the first photo too long, still being fresh in your mind, before quickly swiping along.
The set of matching photos you and Eddie took of one another, black and white socks covering touching toes visible in each one. You nearly laugh at the Darth Vader figurine both of you took turns holding. You nearly cry when you realize you were, in fact, smiling in your photo. A small one, a forced one, but there nonetheless.
The selfie from the bar, your amaretto sour and Eddie’s whiskey & coke lifted towards the camera. The way both of you had tried to look annoyed, over exaggerated and furrowed brows paired with pouting lips. Your thumb swipes subconsciously over the photo for a second too long, and you’re startled when you realized it was a live photo. The moment after the photo was taken, Eddie’s eyes had moved to look at you. And in that live photo, you watched every ounce of annoyance evaporate. Leaving behind something you recognized now. Leaving behind eyes sparkling with a brief glimpse of adoration.
There’s something else you better recognize now in the next photo. The picture you’d taken when Eddie had locked himself into his room, only opening up long enough to insist you took the photo, the one that guaranteed you your money. You had been right – there was a flood of regret on his face. You hadn’t imagined it. But you had also been wrong; he was never looking at your own rotted vines and mourning them; he was looking at his own, tethered and shredded, regretting that he had ever taken an axe to them. You don’t press down to see this live photo. You don’t want to witness that door slamming in your face again.
The two photos taken in his bed. The one in which both your faces are scrunched from the flash, in which you can see the physical wall between you two.  And the one in the dark, where you both wear tired smiles, unaware of the night to come.
The photo on the bike, a helmet mostly covering your blushing cheeks, but not Eddie’s.
The photo from the parking garage, meant just for you two.
The photos from Betty’s. You don’t linger on the one of you; you do linger on the one of him.
Each swipe only makes your heart ache more viciously, painful and sharp reminders of the night you had had. You don’t have to press down on another single photo to witness the live outplay of it – each memory is running through your mind in real time as you retrace your steps of the night. Twenty four hours, twenty four steps. With each photo, you watch yourself grow more relaxed, watch smiles come easier without your awareness and finally pinpoint all the care Eddie had been looking at you with the entire time.
You notice the lack of photos from the last few hours. You nearly scorn yourself for it, but there had been no time. There was no time for memories frozen in time amongst all that hard honesty and those sacrilegious revelations.
Except there was one more moment in time frozen for you. You’re quick to exit the photo app finally, leaving behind that picture of Eddie with full cheeks only to open up your text messages.
Your text thread with him. Filled to the brim with bad pastry jokes and underlying need. You remember that urgent want to comfort him, to remind him he was enough. To erase all the hurt and all the old scars caused by a life from before your time with him you still hadn’t become fully privy to.
You’re still rereading the last message, bet you wouldn’t say that to my face, when suddenly a new message appears.
EDDIE: Make it home okay?
Space and time. They are the last things you want, that you need from him right now.
YOU: yep. my roommate just left.
EDDIE: Is your dorm bed as comfortable as you remember?
YOU: like sleeping on a cloud.
You wish you were still in his bed. You wish you were back at the beginning, with him rather than all alone.
EDDIE: Oh shit, you’re trying to sleep? Sorry
EDDIE: I’ll stop bothering you and leave you to it. Sweet dreams.
No, you nearly scream at your phone screen, come back and bother me. Bother me for the rest of my days for all I care.
You’d never sleep another wink if it meant having him. You remember what you told him about starting over, starting fresh. And maybe taking a much needed nap would offer that. Maybe sleeping for more than thirty minutes at a time would be the smart choice, letting you awake with a clearer mind and better intentions.
But you don’t want that. The animal inside still clings to all that has happened.
Something about that makes you brave.
YOU: i never said that, and you’re not bothering me.
EDDIE: Didn’t you say you wanted a nap earlier?
YOU: that was earlier. i’m wide awake now.
An internal battle continues to take place. Your mind whispers liar, knowing damn well that if you put down the phone and turned your cheek to bury into your pillow, you’d be out like a light within seconds.
EDDIE: Ah. I see.
You fiddle with your thumbs for a second, stomach churning as you try to come up with a response to keep the conversation going. Technically, when you had said the two of you needed time apart after all that had happened, it should have meant interactions like this as well. Texting each other was not offering each other space.
But he’d started it. That was on him.
YOU: do you remember what i said about space? and starting over?
EDDIE: I do. I’m not very good with giving you space, it seems.
YOU: well, considering you’re on the other side of town, i’d say we’ve got the physical sense of space down.
There’s a pause in his replies that causes you to sit up. A falter. You curse him for not having a smartphone as well, for not having the privilege of being notified whether he was just taking his time typing or if he had put the phone down. You really hoped it was the former, practically wished upon every star that that was what was happening. You hoped he was glued to his phone as you were yours.
Maybe he still had that photo he’d taken a few hours ago, the one you swore you’d heard him take as you dozed off. Maybe he was still staring at it like you had done with all of your photos.
EDDIE: About that…
You stare at the message, the hidden meaning behind it completely lost on you.
YOU: About what?
EDDIE: I’m not home right now.
Your heart clenches.
YOU: You’re not?
EDDIE: I’m not.
YOU: Eddie, where the hell are you right now?
Your mind reels with all the possible choices. He could be at the bar, at the parking garage, at Nancy’s place. He could be anywhere.
But then he only sends a picture in response, and you know where he is.
You nearly topple into three other students from how you sprint down the hallway. You don’t even grab your key to your dorm room, skipping the elevators and nearly throwing yourself down the few flights of stairs in haste. You don’t care how your lungs cry out, you don’t care how your thighs burn, you don’t care how your shoulder aches from how roughly you slam open that front door of the building. You don’t care about the strange looks you get on your way out. You don’t care about the odd angle you twisted your ankle in on that last step.
The only thing you care about is the boy standing there, helmet off and balanced on the seat of his parked motorcycle that he leans on, arms crossed as his eyes light up at the erratic sight of you.
You don’t even check for any traffic in the parking lot as you make your way to him.
“I’m sorry,” he calls out once you’re close enough to hear him, “I know we said give it time and shit, but you left, and I just-”
He doesn’t get the chance to finish his sentence.
When you make it to Eddie, you’re in no business to carry anymore regret with you. This time, you don’t just yearn to kiss him, to wrap your arms around him, to pour out all those emotions you were feeling across tongues.
You do it. You kiss him, uncaring for all the stares of fellow students. He nearly falls backwards into his bike from the force of you colliding against him, but he’s quick to catch himself as his hands find your waist.
“You-” you pull back, gasping a bit to start to scold him before his lips follow and interrupt you, “Fucking-” Push and pull. You retreat, and he follows, “Idiot.”
His hands squeeze around you, tugging you a stumbling step closer so that your chests are flushed against one another.
“I am,” he mumbles against your lip, the tip of his nose grazing over your cheek as he refuses to let anymore distance be put between the two of you, “I am a fucking idiot. I’m sorry.”
“Stop apologizing.”
His hands cradle your face and he kisses you this time, reaffirming that he felt everything you had. All those words you hadn’t said, all his own admissions he’d withheld, spill between clashing teeth and eager lips. He takes your breath away, shamelessly, greedily. And you let him. You offer all the air that’s left in your lungs up to him on a silver platter.
When the two of you finally pull apart, eyes opening wide and foreheads pressing tightly to one another, he’s grinning like a fool.
“So, I had a better idea than time apart,” he murmurs, “What if we just… start over?”
“Start over?” you question wearily.
He nods, “Yeah. Just… Just pretend this last year and all our bullshit didn’t happen. Start fresh. Let me not be a massive dick this time.”
His hands drop from your face as he takes a step back, taking you in fully. You want to shy under his gaze, but instead you can only melt. His fondness is a warmth like no other, capturing you by the crown of your head and pouring down over you in waves.
“Okay,” you finally agree, feeling your own cheeks spread and ache in a lovesick smile. Coming home, that’s what this felt like. “Okay, we can start over.”
“Great,” the homecoming warmth only spreads as he straightens up his posture. A very serious look overcomes his face, laced with determination for a brief second until he relaxes it into a friendly smile, doleful eyes meeting yours as every single flower he had ever planted in your chest blooms like a spring morning. He sticks his hand out, nearly making you snort, “Hi, I’m Eddie.”
You can’t help it. His front door is open, a warm glow within welcoming you.
You ignore his hand entirely as you impulsively reach up and interlock your fingers at the nape of his neck, tugging him into you for another kiss.
He pulls back far too soon for your liking, but his hands have also found their spot against the small of your back, “Do you greet all the new strangers you meet like this?”
You roll your eyes, “Shut up.”
He pulls you back in for a chaste peck, and it tastes like home.
“I like you,” you whisper into the limited space between the two of you, “I mean it. I like you so fucking much, Edward Munson.”
He grins, cracking your chest wide open with hope, “The feeling’s mutual.”

Blue Christmas
Pairing: EddieMunsonxReader
Summary: You're feeling down with the holidays coming, missing your rockstar boyfriend, so your friends plan a trip to a cabin with a little surprise to cheer you up.
18+ Only
Tumblr media
"Y/N, come on! Sing along!" Robin whined from the back seat.
You groaned, rolling your eyes at her. You appreciated your friends' attempt to cheer you up but it wasn't working. Nothing was going to make this Christmas feel joyful or triumphant. The one person you wanted to be spending Christmas with was halfway across the country and you didn't know when you were going to see him again.
"We're on our way to a beautiful cabin in the woods for a friendsmas like no other!" Steve whooped from the driver's seat. "A whole weekend of fun, drinking, and me! What more could you possibly ask for?"
You couldn't help but laugh, "Yeah, I mean, if I have you Steve, then what more could I possibly need?"
Eddie. You needed Eddie, but he was currently on tour so you couldn't have him. Corroded Coffin had become an overnight sensation and you were beyond thrilled for him and the guys. But they'd been gone for two months. Two months where the closest you got to having your boyfriend was a phone call. He tried to call every day and you appreciated it but you also knew he was crazy busy. The newfound stardom had caused a whirl of insanity from talk shows to press releases to photo shoots to radio interviews. He was constantly on the go and lately the calls and been shorter and farther and fewer between.
You didn't want to think it, but you couldn't help that nagging in the back of your brain. Those doubts that began to creep in like insects burrowing under your skin. Was he going to find someone else? He was constantly surrounded by beautiful women these days, models and other musicians and actresses. How would he not be tempted? You glanced down at yourself, your leggings and sweater dress and knew you couldn't compete. Maybe he saw you as special when his options were limited to Hawkins but a buffet of buxom had just been opened for him and he was quickly becoming the most wanted man in the world. You could compete with Hawkins girls but you had no shot with L.A. girls.
"Hey, stop that," Robin chided, slapping the back of your head. "Get out of there. No going down that path that leads to nothing but misery. This is not a pity party. This is a Christmas party and we are going to have fun. You are going to smile and laugh and have a good time and you are going to padlock those thoughts away where they belong."
You nodded, turning to look out the window at the snow covered landscape. Robin and Steve were your best friends. You had shared all of your doubts and fears with them about Eddie getting bored with you or deciding he didn't want to be tied down when he had the world at his feet. They consistently assured you that wasn't the case, that Eddie loved you, that you two were endgame. You appreciated their support and their positivity so much but you just weren't sure anymore.
"Here we are!" Steve called, pulling up to the most beautiful cabin you'd ever seen.
Cabin? This was like a manor made of logs. What cabin had two stories with a full porch that wrapped around to a deck? And was that a hot tub on the deck? Floor to ceiling glass windows covered the front, which would give you a beautiful view of the winter woods but, Jesus, this place as to cost a small fortune.
"Umm...how exactly are we affording this place?" you questioned.
"Oh, well everybody pitched in," Steve offered, shrugging. "Argyle, Jonathan, and Nancy are driving up later. Between all of us, it actually wasn't too bad." He hopped out of the car and ran around to the back, pulling out your bag. "How about you head in and check it out? You can look around and get all holly and jolly. Get in a positive head space while Robin and I handle getting the rest of the stuff inside."
"Okay..." you said slowly, taking your bag. Why was he being weird? You walked to the cabin and up the steps, pausing when you heard the car start up. You turned to see Steve and Robin waving at you and smiling as they pulled away. "Hey! What the hell? Where are you guys going?"
Seriously? What were they playing at? Did they think this was funny because you definitely weren't laughing. Ugh. Whatever. Groaning, you pushed open the door to the cabin and stepped inside. You had no idea what those two were doing but you'd be damned if you were going to stand outside waiting for their punch line.
Your eyes roamed the cabin as you set your bag down and unbuttoned your coat, hanging it on one of the hooks by the door. There was a Christmas tree already set up and decorated in the corner and a fire roaring in the fireplace. You wondered if the owners had done that. If so, it was a nice touch. Possibly a bit hazardous to leave a fire going with no one there but nice. There were cozy blankets draped on the couch and a lush, shag rug right in front of a beautiful stone fireplace.
You moved to the window to see if Steve and Robin had returned, ending whatever silly game they were playing. Moving the curtains back, you admired the view. Trees coated in sparkling white snow, large rolling hills in the background. Steve had mentioned possibly skiing this weekend.
"Well, at least it's a beautiful view," you muttered.
"Actually, I would say this view in stunning."
Your breath caught in your throat as that voice reached your ears, flowing over your body like the sun's rays after a long winter. Turning, you gasped, tears pooling in your eyes at the most beautiful sight you had seen in months.
There stood Eddie, your perfect Eddie. He looked just like your Eddie, not the Eddie that was plastered over the cover of magazines or sitting on the Today show. He wasn't decked out in designer clothes. His face wasn't covered in make-up to ensure he looked lively under fluorescent lighting. He wore his usual jeans and a long-sleeve blue shirt. Those mahogany waves you loved so much were gloriously chaotic, not perfectly coiffed. He was everything, everything you'd been dreaming about for two months, standing there in front of you.
"Baby?" he asked softly, tilting his head slightly, concerned that you hadn't said anything. "Are you happy to see me?"
Your response was to throw yourself against him, your lips smashing into his, hands tangling in his hair. A rumble of satisfaction rolled from his chest, his arms wrapping around you, crushing your body against his. Jesus, you missed him. You had a savage need to feel every single inch of him, to have him as close to you as humanly possible.
Your hands found the hem of his shirt, grabbing it and pulling it over his head. You threw it across the room, your eyes soaking in each of his tattoos, those images you knew so well. You pressed your lips to his neck, your hands running along his chest and stomach that were much more firm than they had been the last time you'd had him shirtless in front of you. Celebrity came with expectation of a certain body image and you knew his manager had him hooked up with a personal trainer.
You pressed kisses along his chest, tracing your tongue over each tattoo there, smiling when you felt him shudder under your hands. His hand cradled the back of your head as you moved further down, lips pressing against the flesh of his belly, the soft hair that trailed into his jeans, leading you exactly where you wanted to go.
Your fingers quickly undid the button on his jeans, slid his zipper down and pushed his pants and boxers down to his knees. You kissed a path along his groin, that lovely spot where his hips and pelvis met.
"Holy shit baby. This is a hell of a hello," he murmured, fingers tangled in your hair as your lips wrapped around him, pulling the length of him into your mouth. "Fuck. I missed your mouth so goddamn much."
You ranked your nails gently along his thighs as you moved your mouth along him. Your tongue slid along the underside, following the vein there and then swirled around the tip. The grip on your hair tightened as his hips rocked forward, plunging him deeper into your throat.
"Fuck princess..."
Smiling at how easily you could get a reaction out of him, you slid him from your mouth, taking his length in your hand. You began working your hand along him as you ran your tongue over his balls. Gently, you took one in your mouth, sucking just hard enough to make him scream out your name. Switching, you worked his balls with your hand, tenderly rolling them and pulling on them. Your tongue swirled around the base of his cock, working your way to the tip before taking him into your mouth again.
Suddenly, he gripped your shoulders, lifting you from the floor and into his arms. Your legs wrapped around his waist as he moved you to the shag rug, laying you back on it.
"I have waited too damn long to just come in your mouth," he growled, his lips now devouring your flesh. He yanked your shirt off, undoing your bra and tossing both. "Goddamn." His mouth descended upon your chest, pulling your nipple between his teeth until you shrieked with pleasure. His tongue rolled over the other nipple as his hands pulled at your leggings. Breaking away, he ripped them the rest of the way off. His hands moved to your knees, pushing them apart as he gazed down at you. "I have dreamed of this pussy every single day for the last two months."
"Eddie!" you screamed as he dove forward, his tongue sliding between your folds, licking a stripe from your entrance to your clit. Your hips rolled toward him, your hands gripping the shag rug tightly. Fuck, Eddie was so enthusiastic when it came to pleasuring you and he always succeeded. "Jesus baby...oh my god..."
Your eyes rolled back, waves of pleasure gently creating over you, promising the large crash at the end. Eddie slid a finger inside of you, exploring your walls until you almost came off of the bed with a screech.
"There is it," he murmured, pleased with himself, continuing to press along the sensitive flesh within as his tongue worked your clit. He was a fucking master with his tongue, circling and then working shapes around the edges just as you thought you couldn't take it, somehow knowing you needed less pressure.
"Fuck...oh...baby, I can't...oh shit!"
"Oh, yes you can," he replied, his tongue flicking quickly along your clit, "I can feel it, princess. Come on. I've been waiting far too long for this."
Your stomach knotted, your toes pointing as every single muscle tensed in your body. Your body lurched, hands slamming into the floor before gripping the rug again for dear life. That crashing wave was about to roll over you. Eddie's fingers continued to move, each time hitting that delicious spot that simply undid you. His tongue was not letting up, knowing you were close, pushing you over the edge.
"Fuck me!" you screamed, your body shuddering violently up off the floor. Eddie's free hand rested on your belly, gently pressing you back down as he continued to pleasure you gently through the waves of pleasure that coursed through your body.
"I mean, if you insist," he said with a smile, sliding his fingers from you and before you could even completely come down from your high, his cock had replaced them, your body welcoming him home, finally right where he belonged. "Oh fuck baby. You feel so damn good. Yes, I've missed you so fucking much."
"I've missed you," you groaned, grabbing the back of his neck and pulling him close. "God, I've missed you."
Eddie's arms wound underneath you, his forehead pressing against yours as he moved his hips, his cock filling you completely. It filled not just your body but your very soul. Being this close to him was replenishing everything that had diminished in his absence. All doubts and fears flew from your mind at the perfection that was the two of you becoming one, your bodies interconnecting like perfect puzzle pieces.
"Baby, you're so perfect," he breathed, his breath gently tickling your skin. "You have no idea how much it kills me to be away from you."
Your hands held his face, gazing into his eyes as your hips met each thrust, your legs wrapped around him, pulling him even deeper. Brown eyes...people compared brown eyes to so many normal, every day things but his were anything but. His eyes were the color of sweet melted chocolate, a warm cup of soothing tea when your soul was aching, the color of the earth that brought life after a long, hard winter. These were the eyes that you wanted to gaze into for the rest of your life.
"Me too," you whispered, your head swimming in the lust and love you had for this man. "I hate it."
"Oh baby, I'm gonna..." he groaned and then his whole body jerked forward, stilling, his eyes closed as you felt his climax filling you completely. He lifted his head, his forearms framing your hand, and held your face in his hands. "I love you. I don't want to be away from you anymore. I can't do it. It's too hard."
"Baby, I hate it too. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do," you said, smiling. "But you have to. As much as I hate it, I know you have to do it. The tour and everything, this is amazing for you and the guys."
"So come with me," he said. "Princess, I can't say goodbye to you again. I won't do it. I fucking hate it. It's so damn hard. This is my Christmas gift to you. I want you to come on tour with me. I know we talked about it and it didn't seem right but being apart isn't right. I know it's a crazy life, but it would be our life. All of this success just feels like bullshit without you with me."
You paused, looking upon the face that you loved so much. Yeah, you'd be leaving everything you knew behind but everything you wanted was right here. Did any of it matter without him? Could you do it?
"Yes," you replied without hesitation. "Yes. I don't want to go one more day without these eyes in my life."
"Yes?" he asked, grinning wide and then he started laughing, pulling you against him and pressing his lips to yours. "Yes! This is the best Christmas gift ever. Seriously baby. You and me, forever."
"Forever," you repeated, pushing those messy locks behind his ears. Yeah, forever with this man sounded like pure heaven.

@steddiemas Day 22: Santa Shenanigans
Tumblr media
Steve was going to kill Robin.
Well, not really because he doesn't think he'd survive more than a couple days without her. But he'd certainly be giving her the stink eye next shift for suggesting a secret Santa between the older ones of the party.
"We just rog it so that I get Vickie and she'll fall madly in love with me, it's a perfect plan Steve!"
To her credit it was an ok plan.
"Last week you spent an hour bemoaning the fact that she smiled at a boy."
"But yesterday she spent two hours studying with me in the library!"
Steve rolled his eyes at her shenanigans but agreed nonetheless. They drew names the next time they had all gone out for burgers at the diner. Steve tried not to make it obvious when he saw who his name was. Eddie.
Steve wasn't disappointed, no, far from it, he'd been hiding a crush on the older boy for a few months now, let's just say Eddie spent a lot of time by Steve's pool last summer. But now he felt the pressure to get him the perfect gift. The plan hadn't even worked for Robin.
"I got Argyle! Now how will I win her heart."
"Could always plant some mistletoe."
"You're a genius! Who'd you get."
"It's Secret Santa, Rob's, it's meant to be secret."
"Boo you're no fun, bet it's me."
It took Steve weeks to finish his gift for Eddie and Steve found himself hastily wrapping it the morning of their little Christmas party, grateful that Robin had thought of the plan well in advance otherwise he'd have never finished.
Steve greeted everyone and watched as they placed their secret Santa gifts under the tree. They ate, laughed and picked a Christmas movie to watch after presents. One by one they opened their gifts.
Nancy got Vickie some water colour paints.
Argyle got Jonathan rolls of fresh film.
Jonathan got Nancy some new notepads with larger covers.
Robin got Argyle a big bright tie dye shirt with Groovy printed on the front, he quickly put it over the sweater he was already wearing.
Vickie turned to Robin and Steve quickly saw her cheeks start to redden. She passed her the gift and Robin unwrapped a bag full of pins and badges.
"I've been collecting them for a few weeks for you from around town and around where I went to visit my grandma, thought your work vest needed some more fun ones."
Robin grinned widely at Vickie, the effort making a big impact on her. Steve knew he'd be hearing about it for weeks but he hoped the mistletoe in the kitchen sped things along.
Steve was about to give Eddie his gift when he realised that this meant Eddie also got him for Secret Santa. He turned to the metalhead to find him already shyly holding out a gift.
"It's not much but I hope you like it, Stevie."
Steve unwrapped the small package to find a collection of mixtapes inside, Eddie's handwriting clearly scribbled on the side.
"I started making a mixtape of songs that made me think of you but U ran out of room on the first one and might've gotten carried away," he said shyly scratching his neck.
Steve glanced over the names of the songs and it was clear that the majority of them certainly wouldn't remind someone of their dear platonic friend. Steve smiled softly at him and passed him his gift.
"I think I know what you mean."
Eddie slightly confused at the statement unwrapped the gift, his mouth forming a small o looking inside. He took out the book, a worn copy of The Hobbit that Steve had thrifted as soon as he knew Eddie was his secret Santa.
"Stevie, you know I've got this one, it's my favourite," he said slightly awkwardly.
"Look inside."
Eddie slowly opened the book to see small dribbles of ink between the words. The handwriting clearly Steve's. As he flicked through he saw Steve's thoughts spilling into almost every page.
"It's your favourite and you're always wanting me to read it so I did, I thought it'd be fun if you saw exactly what I thought of it."
Eddie's eyes caught on one of the words near the end, a small red shape next to them, yeah, he thinks he and Steve are on the same page, but he'd wait until the end, no spoilers early after all.
"I love it, Stevie, thank you."
As Steve sat curled up next to Eddie on the couch watching the film he too had the same thought, definitely on the same page.

thinking about how argyle tells mike "surf's up, romeo" when he and el are trying to talk at surfer boy pizza and then there's also the stove behind mike during his monologue that has the name "montague" (romeo's last name) on it.
at first glance most people probably assume this detail is pro-milkvan because mike and el are being compared to romeo and juliet, a pair of star-crossed lovers who fell in love with each other at first sight. this is what romeo and juliet's relationship appears to be on the surface, but the whole play is actually making fun of teenagers who claim they're in love when they don't really know each other. (almost like how milkvans and general audiences tend to perceive the show versus fans that actually try to read into the deeper meanings).
something something "i've loved you since that moment i saw you in the woods" paralleling romeo when he first sees juliet and thinks he's in love with her. (this combined with mike actually not falling in love with el at first sight as he claimed during his monologue because in s1 he wants to send her back to a mental hospital so they can go back to finding will. and if we compare this to romeo thinking he's in love with a different girl and crying over her moments before he sees juliet and then decides he's actually in love with her instead, well, it doesn't take much to put two and two together)
anyway i just find it really interesting that mike is referred to as romeo both textually and visually moments before and during his i love you monologue to el. definitely coincidental of the writers and set designers and this surely doesn't mean anything

Hey! This is Birdie_Castellan from ao3 and I was wondering if, for the requests, you could maybe do a sort of 5+1 trope (you can adjust the numbers as you please though) of like 5 times Gareth or Robin or someone in the party thought Steve and Eddie are acting weird, plus one time they're not or something?
Okay, I'll admit getting started on this was hard. I didn't know what angle I wanted to go with here, but then once I got started, it poured out of me. I love the idea that these idiots really tried to hide their relationship like they aren't so obviously in love. I also love that everyone is so oblivious that it takes them months to figure it out. - Mickala ❤️
--------------------------------------------------
Robin
Steve was running late to pick Robin up for their shift.
Honestly, she didn’t even really care that much about being late. Even if it was the second time this week.
She cared because he was being weird about why he was running late. For the second time this week.
At least he’d called this time. He hadn’t remembered to on Tuesday, so she just had to sit on her doorstep and hope he showed up eventually.
He was on his way now, so they’d only be a few minutes late, but Keith would surely ream them out for it. Any charms she could use to get Keith on her side before had long evaporated like smoke; he’d caught onto her not actually being interested in him and now she was no better than Steve.
Just when she was getting ready to wait inside, Steve’s car pulled into the driveway.
“Thank god,” she huffed as she stalked over.
She opened the passenger door and was met with-
“Eddie?”
“Hey Robbie,” he said with a wave, fingers fluttering.
“Okay, one: you’re in my seat. Two: why are you in my seat?”
Eddie looked to Steve, then back at Robin before he got out and sat in the back.
Robin got in the seat and shut the door, buckling up.
She turned to Steve, who was pretending to focus on the rear view mirror as he backed out of the driveway.
“Why is Eddie here?”
“Van broke down,” Eddie said.
“We were just hanging out,” Steve said at the same time.
Robin looked at Steve, who gritted his teeth and gripped the steering wheel harder, and then back at Eddie, who looked like he was going to jump out of the barely moving car.
“Uh huh. And Eddie’s coming to work with us…why?”
“Lost track of time,” Steve sounded like he hadn’t thought about the fact that Robin would ask some questions when they arrived.
And it’s not like she was oblivious to the fact that Eddie and Steve hung out, she just didn’t realize it was often alone.
Unsupervised.
No kids around to interrupt anything.
But no, Steve would’ve told her if they were…doing anything.
Right?
She chose to move on for now, the tension in the car far too uncomfortable for her.
Keith was only a little bit of an asshole, more concerned about leaving than yelling at them.
Robin immediately started helping customers while Steve restocked movies, Eddie trailing behind him like a lost puppy.
Robin watched out of the corner of her eye, and when the customers left, she turned and put all her attention on what Steve and Eddie were doing.
Eddie was leaning against the shelf, his hands gesturing wildly as he spoke about something while Steve smiled to himself as he put movies away.
Robin couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.
From where she stood, which may have been too far to really tell, it looked like Steve Harrington might have a crush.
————————
Jonathan and Argyle
“Wasn’t Eddie supposed to meet us here already?” Jonathan was pacing, wearing a path into the ground as he kicked more leaves out of the way.
“Dude, relax. Time isn’t real,” Argyle responded, eyes closed as he laid back on the picnic table.
“Something might be wrong, though.”
“Sorry I’m late!” Eddie proclaimed from the trees.
But he wasn’t alone.
Jonathan squinted through the dark and saw Steve following close behind him, hair mussed up and dirt stains on his knees.
“Did you guys run into someone or something?”
“Told you everything was fine,” Argyle finally sat up and greeted them. “You know we can meet at Jonathan’s house next time. Ms. Byers totally took a hit off my last roll and loved it so I think she’s comin’ around, man.”
Steve looked flushed, like he’d been running.
Eddie was barely out of breath.
“Steve, you okay?” Jonathan asked, continuing to suspiciously look over a perfectly calm Eddie.
“Yep! Just wasn’t expecting to walk this far.”
“Okay…”
Eddie pulled a bag out of his vest pocket and handed it to Jonathan.
“Threw in some extra when I knew we’d be late. Sorry man.”
“No worries. How much?”
“$20. Or $30 if you want me to roll it for you,” Eddie normally charged $30 for what he was giving Jonathan plus $20 more to roll it, but since it was Jonathan, he was willing to give him a pretty decent discount.
Him and Argyle were his best customers.
They exchanged money and goods, all while Steve leaned against a tree, seeming dazed.
“Okay, seriously, did you get another concussion Steve?”
“Hm?”
“Steve’s just high. We tried out a new strain and it hit him harder than we thought it would,” Eddie supplied quickly.
It sounded like a lie, but it did seem possible.
And it explained why they were late.
“Same time next week?” Eddie asked, making his way back to Steve.
“Yeah, but let’s just meet at your trailer or something.”
“Sure. Wayne will be at work anyway.”
As they went their separate ways, Jonathan watched the way Eddie slipped a hand around Steve’s waist, guiding him back through the trees.
He could hear him mumbling, but couldn’t hear anything except “so good” and “reward.”
“I didn’t know the babysitter and Batman 2.0 were dating,” Argyle said from behind him, making him jump.
“What? They’re not. Steve’s super straight.”
“Uh. I don’t think so.”
Jonathan looked at Argyle, then back at the retreating figures of Eddie and Steve.
“Alright, man. Guess we’ll find out eventually.”

Hopper
He was bored. And tired. And sick of having to do bullshit coverage shifts.
He was the Chief, dammit.
He’d been through all this shit already.
But he knew the only way anyone would take him seriously was if he still did the occasional patrol shifts.
He’s already done a loop, surprised to find that absolutely no one was on the roads. It was late, but not so late that he hadn’t expected at least a few people to pass by.
On his second loop, he slowed down when he saw a van parked at Lover’s Lake.
Eddie’s van.
Eddie who was supposed to be laying low.
Sure, he’d been officially cleared for months, but the town still had their doubts.
Being out at 11 at night wasn’t exactly laying low.
Hopper sighed as he parked and got out of his patrol car, not wanting to startle him with the lights or sirens.
The kid could just be trying to get out of the house.
But as he got closer, he could hear low moans.
“Dammit, Eddie,” Hopper said to himself before banging on the back door of the van.
The moaning abruptly stopped and he heard some mumbled cursing and watched the van shake for a moment before the back door opened.
Eddie looked disheveled, which was what Hopper had been expecting.
What he wasn’t expecting was an equally disheveled Steve Harrington.
It was pretty rare that he was shocked into silence these days, but when he opened his mouth to give a warning, nothing came out.
It became clear pretty quickly that Steve was hoping he wouldn’t be seen as he pulled a blanket over himself while Eddie got out of the van and closed the door.
“Uh, was that…”
“Nope. Just me.”
Hopper’s eyes squinted suspiciously.
“Just you?”
“Yep. Had to get out of the trailer. Wayne’s been off all week and the walls are thin. Desperate times, ya know?”
Eddie was good, he’d always been good at convincing people what he was saying was true.
He probably convinced himself what he was saying was true.
And Hopper learned long ago to pick his battles, especially with teens and young adults like Eddie.
He wasn’t hurting anybody, no one else was around, he technically couldn’t even prove he was doing anything illegal at all, so he just nodded.
“Right. Well, this is just a warning for you to take you and your hand back home so I don’t have to get you on public indecency. Got it?”
“Sure thing, Chief!” Eddie saluted obnoxiously.
He made his way to the front of his van, hopping in and starting it up quickly.
“I don’t get paid enough,” Hopper said as he walked back to his car.
When Eddie’s van passed by him, he saw Steve sitting in the passenger seat, blanket curled around him and eyes closed like he was asleep.
Whatever.
Hopper didn’t need to know, want to know, or care to know.
————————
Max
Max may be blind, but she wasn’t blind.
It was easy to see what was going on with Steve and Eddie.
They were clingy, but in weird ways. They didn’t hang all over each other, they clearly were trying to hide their relationship from everyone.
What they did was orbit each other.
Max couldn’t see, but she could tell.
Anytime Eddie spoke, Steve spoke from somewhere nearby. Anytime Eddie sat down next to Max, Steve would sit on her other side. When Steve would excuse himself, Eddie wouldn’t be far behind.
She was pretty sure none of the others noticed, or if they did, they didn’t say anything.
But she finally had to when she was sitting on Eddie’s porch one afternoon, trying to feel her way through a G chord. She heard Steve’s car pull up, his feet on the steps.
“Hey, Max, Eds,” Steve said fondly.
She could hear in her voice that he was looking at them like he did when he was overwhelmed with love.
It was gross.
“Hey, swee-Stevie. Off work early?” Eddie asked.
Max heard Steve take a seat on the same step Eddie was sitting on, but didn’t hear anything else.
At least they were smart enough not to kiss or something. She’d hear that for sure.
“Just a little. Keith didn’t want me getting overtime this week. You giving Max a lesson so she can be the next big rockstar?”
Max let out a laugh.
“Well, he’s making sure I’m not useless with a guitar, but I’m far from rockstar material,” Max said as she started strumming again.
It was quiet for a few minutes, but she knew they were still there watching her.
She finally gave up for the day, her frustration level much too high to properly attempt a new chord right now.
“Alright, someone walk me home so I don’t have to interrupt your date or whatever,” she said as she got up.
Steve choked on nothing as Eddie started immediately trying to argue.
“What? This isn’t a date! Steve just had to come by and pick something up.”
“Are you the something he has to pick up?” Max knew she was pushing, but they were just acting so fucking weird lately and she wanted answers.
“No!”
“Whatever. Can someone walk me home?”
She heard Steve shift his weight on the porch step, then footsteps as he got down.
“Sure thing. Need my arm or just wanna walk next to me?”
“Next to you.”
She got off the step, held the guitar out for Eddie to take, and started walking.
When they got to the gravel road, Steve cleared his throat.
“It’s um. Like it’s really. Um.”
“Don’t hurt yourself Steve. It’s fine. Probably good that you found someone, right?”
She didn’t need any vision to know that Steve was probably bright red.
“Uh huh. Yep.”
They got to her house quickly and he helped her up the steps.
“Need anything before I go?” Steve asked, like always.
“Need you to leave me alone,” Max replied, like always.
“You know where I’ll be if that changes,” she could hear the smile in his voice as he walked back down the steps.
She went inside and thought about how long this had been going on.
Months, really, though they may actually not have noticed or been together at first. They were both idiots in their own ways and they seemed like the type to be stupid with feelings.
But whatever was going on now seemed to keep them happy, and if that meant dealing with their weirdness, Max was secretly happy about it.

Dustin
Steve was always at Hellfire now.
And, like, it was cool. It was fine. Dustin liked that he showed an interest now, the rest of the party did, too.
But he was a distraction.
Eddie was the best DM besides Will that Dustin had ever seen, but when Steve started coming to watch, it was like ants had started picking pieces of his brain away to build their homes.
Seriously, he got more stupid by the minute.
And Eddie wasn’t stupid, is the thing.
Whether it was D&D or real life shit or even some subjects in school, he was brilliant.
But if Steve was around, his brain left the building.
Tonight was maybe the worst.
They were on their second to last night for this campaign (hopefully) and Steve had shown up about halfway through.
He’d been a little bitchy, even towards Eddie, and had been sitting on the couch drinking water and rubbing his eyes and neck every few minutes.
Eddie kept glancing over at him, stopping mid-sentence and getting completely distracted.
Everyone was getting annoyed and he knew Erica was one more distraction away from calling him out.
As annoyed as Dustin was, he didn’t want that to happen.
Instead, when he saw Eddie’s eyes drifting over to Steve again, he kicked his shin and widened his eyes at him.
“Dude, what the hell?”
“What do you mean, what the hell? You just kicked me?” Eddie whispered angrily.
“You keep looking at Steve and getting lost. Erica’s about to lose her shit,” Dustin whispered back.
“No I don’t,” Eddie said, looking back at the papers in front of him.
“Dude.”
Dustin looked over at Steve, watching as he winced and started rubbing his forehead.
Shit. He had a migraine.
Why did he even come here if he had a migraine?
He knows how loud they can be.
He knows Eddie would take them all home.
Unless…
No. No way.
Dustin was oblivious about this stuff sometimes, but he would know if Steve and Eddie were, like, a thing. Right?
Eddie continued on, but his leg started bouncing anxiously when Steve got up to go to the bathroom.
He was gone for three minutes before Eddie called a break and booked it towards the bathroom.
No one paid much attention except for him, so he walked down the hall and stopped outside the bathroom door.
“You should’ve called me, I would’ve come to you,” Eddie’s voice said quietly.
“Just wanted to see you,” Steve replied, his voice raspy and wet, like he’d been crying.
Dustin resisted the urge to open the door, wanted to see what else they would say first.
“Stevie…”
“After Hellfire can you play with my hair?”
Dustin’s jaw dropped.
That…could be friendly…maybe.
“Yeah, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart?
Dustin’s eyes practically bugged out of his head as he realized what was going on.
He walked back to the table, his world spinning at the realization that Steve and Eddie were together and probably had been for a while.
———————————
Everyone
Wayne Munson usually spent his birthday working or with Eddie, but not this year.
He’d been adopted into this little family of misfits and freaks, and he was damn pleased about it.
Joyce had insisted on throwing him a party at her house, everyone was bringing something, and he could invite anyone else he wanted there, too.
Wayne didn’t really have friends. Sure, he went fishing with a couple guys from work every month, but that was more for the fishing than the bonding with people.
So he showed up with Eddie, ten minutes late because Eddie had forgotten to wrap his present until they were about to walk out the door.
Hugs were passed around, Hopper even giving him an awkward one-armed side hug.
Steve and his friend Robin showed up a few minutes later, still in their work uniforms and looking a bit tired. He hugged them both and thanked them for coming by.
It was fun, if a little overwhelming being around all these people as they ate and sang him happy birthday.
He was surprised to see that everyone got him presents.
Look, Wayne was a simple man. He had everything he needed, anything else was just extra.
But he felt loved as he opened gift after gift, small tokens of love from these kids and adults who knew him just enough to know what he’d appreciate.
Mostly mugs and hats, one pair of work boots from Hopper, who insisted they were the best brand he’d ever had.
Eddie handed over a small package, and Steve stood next to him, huge smiles on both their faces.
“This is from me and Steve. Hope you like it.”
Wayne ignored the fact that this was a joint gift, already promising himself he wouldn’t bring up whatever weird thing was going on between his nephew and the Harrington boy this morning.
He started to open it and looked up confused when it was just a handwritten note and a ticket.
“What’s this?”
“Read it!” Eddie bounced up and down.
Steve placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him, but smiled at him fondly.
Hm.
So Wayne read.
Wayne,
A couple months ago, you mentioned that you hadn’t been to the mountains in almost 20 years and you missed the fishing there. I know I was a lot of the reason you haven’t been, and I’m not gonna apologize, because you won’t let me, but I will say thank you.
Thank you for putting me first for so long. Thank you for giving me everything I needed and working so hard to make sure I wasn’t like my dad. No amount of thank yous could be enough, but I hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip, old man. Love, Eddie
P.S. Steve did most of the work on this so if it’s terrible, it’s his fault.
Wayne moved the letter out of the way and looked at the ticket.
A train ticket to the Smoky Mountains. Another paper was folded up behind that showing his cabin reservations on a lake.
Wayne felt tears spring to his eyes as he looked up at Eddie, who was holding Steve’s hand.
“You boys did this?”
They nodded.
“C’mere,” Wayne gestured for both of them to come closer, and he quickly pulled them both into a hug.
But it was interrupted by Mike, the Wheeler with an attitude, only a few seconds later.
“Are we not talking about how they got him a gift together and are holding hands?”
The party went quiet and Wayne felt Steve and Eddie go tense in his arms.
“It’s alright, boys. You don’t owe an explanation to no one,” Wayne whispered to them before pulling away.
But they kept holding hands, and when they looked at each other, Wayne knew they weren’t gonna run.
“It’s Wayne’s day, but, I guess we should just go ahead and tell you all,” Eddie started.
“We’ve been dating for a while, and it’s pretty serious, so we planned to tell everyone at the next family dinner,” Steve rushed out.
Eddie must have sensed his nerves, pulled his hand out of Steve’s and wrapped his arm around his waist.
“How long is a while?” Dustin asked.
“About four months.”
Everyone was shocked into silence.
But then, one at a time, people started saying “should’ve known” and “that explains so much” and Wayne couldn’t help the smirk on his face.
He’d walked in on Steve curled up against Eddie’s chest on the couch one night about a month ago, snuck in so he wouldn’t interrupt them. At the time, he’d known there was something going on, but figured it wasn’t that serious.
He’d never been happier to be wrong.

I saw someone make an ASMR au where Eddie and Steve are asmrtists so I wanted to throw out an idea into the void
Eddie is an up and coming asmrtist who specializes in mainly satirical/crack ASMR. Steve, a beauty asmrtists who does mostly OOTD,  makeup/hair content,  absolutely falls in love with Eddie’s videos due to homesickness.
Steve and Robin had to move for college and he misses the party (Dustin, Erica, Eleven, Will, Lucas, Jonathan, Nancy, Argyle, Mike) a lot, and we all know that together that is an absolute Force to be reckoned with.
Steve stumbles upon Eddie’s small YouTube channel and falls in love with how chaotic his videos are. It reminds him of the insanity of home, and the small DND rambles are always the best way to stop Steve from crying.
I’m just imagining Steve clicking a video and Eddie’s face comes on screen, he has rings on his fingers and he waved to the camera calmly, doesn’t do an intro, and whispers “hey, you look tense. Does your back hurt? Oh, it doesn’t?” And Steve thinks it’s gonna be a normal role play until Eddie pulls out a knife and goes “would you like it to?” And it just devolved into chaos after that where Eddie pretends  to get kidnapped by aliens or something.
One of Eddie’s most famous videos is of him pretending to be a guy the viewer has a one night stand with and he goes around your house dropping dnd figurines in all your shoes. There’s another one under the one night stand category where Eddie is obviously playing the role of someone you’re trying to seduce into bed but he keeps getting sidetracked and talks about odd conspiracy theories and keeps trying to show you how cool his shrek impersonation is.
There’s one where Eddie is literally doing ASMR dumpster diving but he only speaks the entire bee movie script.  (Think AngelicaASMR before she entered her trad fem phase.) Eddie has a video where he pretends to be a raccoon trying to overtake the government, and he ends up making it a series and eventually he adds a plot to it. There’s also one where he is having a serious conversation about the struggles of raising children until you realize that the person he’s talking to is a tiny plastic dinosaur.  He also has a mini series where he plays with said tiny plastic dinosaur and pretty much makes a soap opera using a bunch of cheap trinkets. there’s some especially deranged ones where you’re a door and Eddie is trying to rip you off your hinges. There’s one where he runs a cult based off of guitar picks but it gets increasingly harder and more nonsensical to follow as the video continues.
Every once in a while he’ll break character and laugh into the camera, unable to keep himself together, but he never takes it out. He is NOT taking himself seriously at all and Steve adores it.

HI OMG HELLO
Just a little obsessed with the whole “projecting my interests onto Steve” train I have going so here ya go—
Steve who has an interest in mythology of just about any kind but specifically Greek Mythology because “holy shit everyone’s gay.”
Steve’s hosting the usual Saturday hangout at his house because it’s the one time everyone’s schedules line up. He’s sitting on the floor in front of the coffee table, Robin on the floor to his right and Dustin to his left. Everyone else is spread among the couches and armchair, squeezing together in a way that seems more uncomfortable and over heated than the Devil’s asscrack.
Dustin was going on a ramble about something science-y. Robin and Mike would cut in occasionally with their own arguments and begin a whole new debate. Steve wasn’t paying much attention though.
His focus was on Eddie, who was staring intently at the living room window. Specifically the one that held his mothers flower vases.
When there was a break in the argument where everyone caught their breaths and gathered their thoughts, Eddie struck.
“What kind of flowers are those?” He pointed at the light yellow vase with a complicated floral pattern.
Steve paused and debated answering. He knew it was a trap. The flowers in that vase held a long story— one that everyone in the room would be subjected to hearing if Steve couldn’t help himself.
But Eddie was looking at his expectantly, Dustin tilting his head in curiosity, and even Mike eyeing him with a genuine wonderment.
So, Steve naturally conceded. “They’re hyacinths.”
Argyle whistled lowly. “Pretty name.”
Steve grinned. “Yeah well— they get their name from one of the prettiest people in history. In my opinion anyway.”
That seemed to pique everyone’s interest. Bad move on Steve’s part. At this rate, he’s gonna crack and go on a rant. Nobody wants to listen to his rants.
“Who do they get their name from?” Will asked, pulling his feet up to sit crisscross on the armchair. Mike was sat right next to him on the seat, squished into the arm but making no complaints. Mike nodded at Will’s question, as if agreeing that he also wanted to know.
Steve shifted and pulled one leg to his chest, resting his arm on it and fiddling with his hands. He avoided eye contact with just about anyone, before cracking a little more and looking at Robin.
With the nod she gave him, Steve felt himself break.
“They get their name from the Roman Prince Hyacinthus.”
Nancy hummed and took a sip from her Coke. She waved her hand as if urging him on. Steve continued.
“Um— well Hyacinthus was a Roman Prince beloved by all, including the God Apollo—“
“But isn’t Apollo a guy?” Mike interrupted. Looking over, Steve saw the pure curiosity and something that looked like hesitation on his face. Next to Mike, Will looked equally if-not-more hesitant but also very happy (?).
Steve allowed himself a small grin and nodded. “He is indeed. Hyacinthus is actually the first openly gay Greek character that we know of.” Steve’s smile brightened at the grin that made itself present on Will’s face and look of pure endearment on Mike’s.
“Anyways— Apollo fell in love with Hyacinthus but so did Zephyros, the God of the West Winds. Hyacinthus chose Apollo over Zephyros, however. And one day while Apollo and Hyacinthus were being all couple-y or whatever in the fields and playing discus, Zephyros took advantage of the winds and sent a discus spiraling straight at Hyacinthus and it ended up killing him on impact.”
He paused to take a breath, the story taking hold of him. Steve could feel the rush of excitement at finally talking about it— this story was his favorite and the next part always got him.
Among his break, he looked up and started at Eddie’s eyes on him. Of course, everyone’s eyes were on him, but Eddie’s shone with such a fondness that Steve felt himself having to do a minor breathing exercise to calm his heart down.
He cleared his throat with a cough and picked up where he left off, tilting his eyes down and keeping them on his fidgeting hands.
“Well— um, it was typical ‘if I can’t have you no one can’ fashion but the death shook Apollo to his very core and after trying everything in his power to get Hyacinthus back he finally gave in and grew the hyacinth flowers from the grass wherever Hyacinthus’ blood touched ‘to keep him in the sun where he belonged’.”
And with that, Steve looked around at everyone in the room. El’s eyes were filled with wonderment. Sitting next to her, Max looked shocked— though, at the story or Steve, he was unsure.
Jonathan had a small smile playing at his lips as well as Nancy. Argyle gave him a thumbs up and a “cool”.
Mike and Will were both seemingly buzzing with excitement and joy, Steve could see it in their eyes and on the matching grins they wore.
Dustin and Lucas— the latter sitting behind Steve on the couch— we’re both grinning at Steve and talking over each other, trying to tell him several different things at once.
But over the chaos surrounding him, Steve’s eyes were drawn to Eddie’s. Doe eyes filled with fondness and endearment. Steve’s grin turned to a bashful smile and he was quick to turn away.
He instead focused on Dustin and Lucas, pretending to not notice when Will followed Mike to the kitchen. From the knowing glint in Jonathan’s eyes, he also knew what was happening. They shared a snort and cheersed their Coke cans.
When the night was over and Steve was fresh out of mythology tales to tell the Party, everyone began leaving.
Mike, Will, and El left with Jonathan and Argyle. Nancy drove Robin, Dustin, Lucas and Erica as well as Max— who was spending the night at the Sinclair’s.
It was when Steve went to clean the living room that he noticed he never saw Eddie leave.
Instead, the metal head was standing by the window in the living room. The same window with the hyacinths. Steve furrowed his brow in confusion and walked over.
The moment Steve was within reaching distance, Eddie pulled him into his side. Steve let out an ‘oof’ sound, and caught himself on Eddie’s chest. Rather than pulling away from the other, Steve made himself comfortable and settled into Eddie’s side with his head on his shoulder.
“I love hearing you ramble,” was the last thing Steve heard before Eddie kissed him soundly.

The Best of Friends
(I thought about this and I had to put it into words)
-Argyle x afab!reader/ Jonathan x afab!reader/ Johnathan x Arygle (kinda)
-warnings: smut!! threesome (👀), blowjob, fingering, pervert Johnathan
-summary: Johnathan hasn’t been the same after his breakup, but at least he has his two best friends to help him
Tumblr media
Johnathan knew what he was getting into when you and Argyle started dating. He was thinking his two closest friends are going to be two busy with each to hang out anymore. Even with those negative thoughts that wasn’t the case, you two made sure to equal amount of time with him you two would with each other.
You guys were especially there when Johnathan came to school from the weekend with the news Nancy broke up with him. You and Argyle felt terrible for Johnathan and wanted to cheer up your friend, no matter the cost.
Johnathan felt horrible. He thought about everything while driving to Argyle’s house. Everything that has happened in the past few weeks after his breakup with Nancy. He feels a sense of relief but also a sense of pain, he really loved this girl, but this move to California took that chance away from him.
He tried going out on his own but can’t without wanting to cry, he wants to listen to the radio but can’t help it but think of Nancy at every love song, and he could even get off without feeling horrible about this breakup. He knew the both of you wanted to cheer him up any way you could, which was a movie and game night. Johnathan parked his car, sighing before stepping out to walk to the front door. He looked at his watch, he was around 10 minutes earlier than expected.  Argyle told him before there was a spare key under the doormat for him to use anytime.
He picked the key from the ground, unlocking the door. He set the key back in its original spot before heading in. Johnathan looked around to not see his friends waiting on the couch. He saw the snacks for the night and movies laid out on the coffee table for the night. Johnathan walked around his friend’s home, walking up the stairs to continue to search for his friends.
Johnathan continued to look around, seeing Argyle room door opened slightly. He snuck up to the door, hearing movements and heavy breathing. He peaked around the cracked open door, and he felt his face heat up.
He saw Argyle on top of you on his bed, kissing your neck as you ran your fingers through his hair. Argyle was making slow, long thrusts into you, “Babe...We should hurry up, he’s going to be here any minute..” you whined, your boyfriend kissing you in response, “Don’t worry, we have time dude...I haven’t showed you this kind of love in a while,” he said, picking up his movements to move faster into you. When you started to moan, Johnathan pulled himself back. His breath was heavy as he heard his best friend fuck his other best friend.
Trying his best to be quiet, he made his way downstairs and out the door. He pressed his back against the front door, his pants feeling tight. This was wrong, so wrong. He shouldn’t feel this way about his two best friends. He tried to spend the next few minutes calming down and try to ignore the feeling in his pants.
Once he was able to cover his problem, he heard two people coming down the stairs with laughs and giggles. Johnathan quickly knocked on the front door, almost pounding on the wood. He rubbed his sweaty hands along his pants as you opened the door, “Hey Johnny!  You’re just in time, come on in!” you said cheerfully, “You know I don’t like that nickname, Y/n.” he pouted, walking inside yet again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A week pasted from the incident and Johnathan can’t stop thinking about what he saw. He had no one to really to talk to about it, he wasn’t going to tell his mom or brother, he obviously can’t tell his two best friends, he was going to burst soon though.
The three of you were in the back of Arygle’s van in the empty valley, getting ready to light up. “Johnathan, what’s wrong man? You seem kinda off,” Argyle asked, sounding concern. You also agreed while packing the bowl of grinded up weed, “Are you still upset about Nancy? We can talk about it if you want...” you said, looking at him.
“I just...I don’t know, I have something on my chest, and I can’t tell you guys,” he said. “Well you can tell us bro we won’t judge,” Argyle said, scooting closer to Johnathan. He shook his head, “No you guys would be mad and grossed out,” he groaned, trying to avoid telling his secret.
“We won’t judge you,” you said, setting the bong aside and moving to the other side of your worried friend. He paused, sighing before saying, “Do you promise to not be mad or grossed out?” he said, you two agreeing.
“O-Okay...The day we were going to play games and watch a movie, I got there earlier than expected. I used the key under the mat and walked in and I was looking around for you guys. I walked up stairs and I continued to look and then...I saw you two...having sex..” he said, cringing at himself for talking about it, “Then I left as fast as I could to get outside. I was standing by the door for a while so it could seem I came ‘just in time’ and I feel gross cause I got..really turned on watching and hearing the both of you...” he said, finally letting the truth out.
He closed his eyes as he let out a sigh of relief and nervousness. “So, you think it was hot watching us?” you asked, voice almost a whisper. Johnathan kept his eyes screwed shut, nodding his head. “Hey man, don’t sweat it, I can see why you would be that way since you haven’t gotten any action in like a year, dude,” Argyle said, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You sure?” he asked, to make sure he didn’t upset his friends. “Yeah, it’s okay Johnathan...kinda hot if you ask me..” you said, biting your bottom lip while looking at your already smirking boyfriend. Johnathan looked at the both of you, “Are you sure..?” he asked, voice quiet.
“Yeah, me and Y/n talked about letting someone else joining in one night before, if you would want to man, you have an open invitation to join us one night.” Argyle said, smiling at his friend as you grabbed the bong and started to light the packed bowl with your lighter. Johnathan smiled and nodded, silently accepting the invitation. The three of you then commenced your weekly Friday night smoke sesh.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next two weeks have been one of the best ever since that Friday. Ever since Johnathan accepted your invitation, the three of you seemed closer. Johnathan gradually grew happier and forgot about the Nancy situation. When you and Argyle were at the Byers residence, Joyce thanked you and your boyfriend for making Johnathan happy again.
It was finally Friday, Johnathan invited you and Argyle to his house since his mom and siblings would be out for the night to spend time with Mike who just flew in. The three of you were in his room, talking and laughing about stuff that happened in school that day. Johnathan was laying across his bed while sit sat between Argyles’ thighs, Johnathan wouldn’t want to spend this Friday night with anyone else. He saw how Argyle tickled you and apologize with cheek kisses. Johnathan smiled as he watched, he used to have someone to do that to...
“Hey guys...” he said, catching your guy’s attention, “ Can...can I use that invitation now...?’ he asked, feeling his face heat up. The both of you looked at him, then each other. You two had a silent agreement to his request, “Okay, we’re down with it man...” Argyle said, kissing you to get Johnathan riled up. He watched with warm cheeks and a fluttery stomach, he hasn’t felt this way in a long time. He watched Argyle kiss you, using his tongue and his hands to your breast. His slow yet rough grip making you moan into your boyfriend’s mouth.
Johnathan sat up and slid a tab closer to you two as Argyle pulled away, “To get comfortable, you can kiss Y/n to start off, okay?” he said, letting you sit up and get close to your friend. Johnathan leaned in slow, closing his eyes as you closed the gap, he feels so light and a little nervous kissing his friend.
“You can touch their boobs too man, get comfortable,” He said, taking Johnathan’s hands and placing on your breasts. You smiled into your kisses with Johnathan, he seemed very excited to kiss and touch you. Knowing it’s been a year for him without any sex, you and your boyfriend want to give Johnathan a good time. Johnathan grabbed your breast with a tight grip, moaning as he did. Your boyfriend continued to guide his friend, “Now, kiss their neck, they really like that..”
He listened and moved down to kiss you neck, continuing to grope you. As you leaned your head back, your boyfriend tilted your head to face him and kiss you. “Is it okay if we start take off our clothes?” Johnathan asked while panting from feeling hot from kissing you. Argyle pulled away and nodded, starting to lift up your shirt enough to reveal your light pink bra to your friend. Johnathan feels the same tight feeling in his pants, “Excited there, dude?” Argyle asked while smiling, Johnathan smiled back and nodded, “Is it okay if I take my pants off..?” he asked, “Of course man get comfortable, we got the night ahead of us,” Argyle said, his hands traveling down your stomach.
Johnathan got off his bed to take off his pants. He looks over to see Argyle kissing you while taking off your pants. He takes a second to almost realize that he’s about to have sex with his friend and their boyfriend is allowing it to happen. He comes back onto his bed and looks down at you. “Alright man, I don’t know if you’re gonna be rusty but before I get to business, I always go down on Y/n, I think you should do the same,” Argyle said, kissing your head after.
Johnathan nodded as he lowered himself close to your panties, they matched your bra, how cute. You slid your body down Argyle’s chest, bringing yourself closer to Johnathan’s face. He took this as a sign to start as he pulled your panties to the side, seeing how wet you were. Johnathan gave you kitten licks, his arms hooking around your thighs.
You rested one hand on his head while the other holds your boyfriend’s hand. Johnathan started feeling bolder, using his tongue on your clit as he removed on arm around your thigh, his fingers prodding at the entrance of your cunt.
Argyle groped your boob with his free hand as he kissed the temple of your head, pulling your bra down to pinch one your hardened nipples. You moaned as you felt his fingers curl up and hit your bundle of nerves. Your breath was heavy yet light at the same time, fingers gripping his brown hair from the root., “Mmm, Johnathan, don’t stop...” you moaned, closing your eyes to revel in the pleasure you feel. Your moans and plea were all Johnathan needed to pick up the pace. “That’s it, please keep going..!” you said, getting louder with your voice and moans.
it’s been a while since Johnathan has done this for someone, it felt good to know he still has magic touch. He felt himself grinding into his bed as he ate you out, giving himself some pleasure as he finger-fucked you. “That’s it man, Y/n is feeling really good now, so make sure to keep it up so they can cum,” said Argyle, giving his friend encouragement. Johnathan’s movements didn’t faulter, still having a good speed even without having to use this helpful skill in a year. Your thighs started to quiver as he sucked on your swollen bud, your grip in his hair getting tighter, “I’m so close, make me cum Johnathan..!” you squealed, pulling the hand in his hair away to cover your mouth, feeling close.
Argyle made another encourage and praising comment to Johnathan as you closed your thighs together, coming on his finger and into his mouth. Johnathan let you ride out your high, not minding your thighs. As soon as you opened your thighs, you apologized, “Sorry for like...crushing your head..” you laughed, Argyle joining.
“Now Johnathan, I’ll let you fuck Y/n while they blow me, sound cool?” he asked, “Y-Yeah, sounds good...here hold on..” he mumbled while getting off the bed. He grabbed a box with condoms out from under his bed and grabbed one. He originally bought these for when Nancy was supposed to fly in, but plans changed. Johnathan moved his boxers and let his erection spring out, tip already leaking. He ripped the golden wrapper and slid on the rubber material as he looked over to see Argyle laying back on his bed with Y/n on top, kissing them as they stroked his dick. Y/n moved down their boyfriend’s body, getting close to his dick. His pants were pulled down to knee length as his shirt rid up his stomach.
Johnathan came back on the bed, behind Y/n, “Alright dude I know you got a rubber on but no coming inside, okay?” Argyle said, his hand resting on Y/n’s head. “Okay...Thank you guys again for this,” Johnathan said, making sure your panties are still to the side and lining himself to your entrance. You hummed as you started to suck on your boyfriend’s dick, earning a groan from him. Johnathan took a deep breath before pushing in, getting the familiar feeling back of what sex feels like again. He started off slow, holding onto Yn’s waist as he moves.
You moaned around your boyfriend’s dick, looking up to see your boyfriend with hooded eyes and his mouth slightly open, “You look so beautiful...” he said, smiling at you after. As you hummed in response, Johnathan started to move faster, letting out a strong of moans. The three of you felt hot, a thin layer of sweat covering your bodies as all your moans harmonized together, creating a symphony of pleasure.
Johnathan closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of you from the inside. His breath felt heavy as he thrusted into you, having you bounce back on him. You continued to suck off your boyfriend, using your hand to stroke whatever couldn’t fit in your mouth. Johnathan squeezed the flesh on your ass, slapping it gently after. “Y/n likes having their ass smacked, you can keep going..” Argyle moaned, feeling you take him fully into your mouth.
“Okay..” Johnathan mumbled, feeling himself make fast and rough thrust, smacking your ass as well. You started to clench around your friend’s dick, feeling hot. You took your boyfriend’s dick out and stroked it while moaning, “You feel so good Johnathan, don’t stop...” you tell your friend before you smile at Argyle, “I love you so much baby,” you said before sucking him off again. Argyle moaned, “I love you more..” helping you move you head up and down.
Johnathan felt a coil in his stomach tighten, “Fuck I’m close..” he moaned loudly, grabbing your hips to thrust into you harder. You moaned again, feeling close as well as your boyfriend also made a comment about almost coming.
You were the first to cum, making loud, muffled noises and clenching around your friend’s cock. Johnathan was next, pulling out and take off the condom to end up coming on your lower back and ass. Argyle was last, moaning as he came into your mouth. You swallowed it all before pulling away.
All of you were panting and breathing heavy, “Hold on I’ll clean you up Y/n,” said Johnathan, getting up and grabbing a random shirt off his floor to wipe your back. Once he got the cum off and put on his pants, you laid down next to your boyfriend “That was amazing...” said Argyle, pulling up his pants and tucking himself away. You hummed and smiled, kissing him.
In the meantime, Johnathan grabbed your pants for you and helped you put them on, “Thank you Johnny, we three definitely have to do this again...” you mumbled, cuddling with your boyfriend who agreed with you. Johnathan came up behind you, joining the cuddle pile, “You know I hate that nickname Yn,” he said smiling, hearing laughter from his two closest friends.
Breakups are hard and difficult to get over, but with some love from your close friends, they’ll help you find happiness again....some ways more extreme than others.

You let out a soft hiss as you felt the pop of the shotgun in your hands rock back into your body. But you ignored it as you reloaded and sent another one causing the bullet to rip through the body of a Flayed. With each echo of the shot, it seems that more and more seemed to be coming out of the tree line.
You went with the group to help clear out the pack that had made its way to downtown Hawkins. As the weather got colder there seemed to be more and more Flayed showing up around the Lab. There was a theory that the Flayed preferred the cold. The chill in the air drops each day and only attracts them to the area more and more.
The gurgled moan came from your left and turned in time as a Flayed moved quickly toward you. You watched as its head was knocked back, the shotgun shell splitting through the blackened and softened skull, causing it to exit violently at the back of its head. Your heart was beating rapidly against your chest as you moved from building to building, searching around, and making sure the other’s with you were covered. You rose and took aim as you watched another Flayed stagger rapidly, a limp in its walk, sending off another shot – missing. You cursed lowly and reloaded again before taking another shot, hitting right in the shoulder, and sending it down to the cracked concrete.
You strapped your shotgun across your back and grabbed your knife from your sheath. The heavy metal of the blade in your hand as you walked up to it. You no longer saw Flayed as people, you couldn’t. The disease that ran through their body didn’t allow it. Blackened veins spread beneath the thin, pale skin giving the walking corpse a more gray tone. Their eyes clouded over and vacant as they stared back at you. Some Flayed had missing skin from their forms, the body slowly decomposing the moment the disease entered your body. With your knife in your shaking hands, you knelt down and drove the blade into the skull, causing the animated corpse to stop moving.
There was an eerie silence that fell over the vacant downtown of your hometown as you looked around and saw the pack had been dealt with. You reached down and used the shirt the Flayed was using to wipe the end of the blade, before setting it back into your sheath. You looked over and saw Jonathan move from an alleyway, swiping a hand across his sweaty face, with Lucas following behind him. Hopper thought it would be a good idea for the volunteers and those assigned to help with his plan to come out and clear out the town as training.
You saw the logic behind it, but you were afraid of losing someone to a Flay since they had never dealt with one before.
“Everyone okay?” Jonathan called out, everyone else stepping down from their posts.
“I think so,” You answered with a slight pant to your voice. You looked around and saw a few others walking toward you. “All cleared out, should move quickly before another wave comes.”
Jonathan nodded, turning his gaze to Argyle, Lucas, and a few others. “Gather the bodies, place them in the middle for burning.”
“We burn them?” a girl with short, red curly hair and a freckled face spoke. You’d learned earlier that her name was Vicky.
“Of course. Don’t want the bodies left the rot.” Argyle spoke.
“Also, the burned bodies give the illusion that a group was here but moved on. Don’t want to give any indication of the camp.” You explained.
“Already have one group on our asses, the last thing we need is another,” Argyle spoke again before splitting off with Lucas and the others start to gather the bodies.
A deep sigh passed through your chapped lips as you tried to calm down your heart rate. Your adrenaline was pumping through you nearly to the point of making you nauseous. Reaching into the back pocket of your pants, you reached for the spare bandana that you’d grabbed from Eddie’s and tied it around your nose and mouth. With the others, you began to grab the bodies of the Flayed, before dropping them into a haphazard pile in the middle of the main street.
Over time you’d all gotten them cleaned up before Jonathan lit a match and tossed it onto the file. It didn’t take long for the entire pack to be engulfed in flames causing a dark blackened smoke to start to stretch up toward the sky.
“Let’s get back to camp, the sun is going down soon, and Hopper is going to want a report,” Jonathan spoke, everyone gathering their things, before starting the walk back toward Camp.
“Keep eyes up,” You spoke, pulling down the bandana, and projecting your voice to the group. “See anything odd, speak up, but keep as quiet as possible. Don’t know if this other group is out.”
All of you made your way down the main road, before turning down a residential street and going through the forest line back toward camp. You grabbed your rifle, checked the chamber, and held onto it – just in case. Being out of the camp was making you nervous. There was something about the forest being too quiet that made your stomach flip every once and a while.
“Something’s not right.” You whispered lowly as you walked up beside Jonathan, your eyes scanning around the forest. “It’s too quiet.”
Jonathan pinched his dark brows together for a moment, his steps slowing, as he listened. You watched as the realization came across his face. His footsteps stopped completely causing you and the rest of the group to do the same. You looked back where Argyle was at the back of the group with the new recruits between the three of you. Your eyes took a quick inventory of the four new recruits. Lucas, Vicky, Nick, and Laura all looked between you three with confused looks on your face. But before either of you could mutter a word, the familiar pop of a gun echoed through before the splintering of a tree to your left.
“Get down!” Argyle screamed, placing a hand on Lucas’ back and sending the younger man to the ground.
Your heart leaped in your throat as another shot rang out and you used a thicker tree as cover, cocking your shotgun, before turning and pointing it in the direction of the gunfire. Your eyes sight went down along the barrel of the shotgun where you caught movement between the trees. You didn’t think. Just took a deep breath before pulling the trigger. You watched as the shotgun shell hit against a tree and caused a large crack.
“Two on the left,” Jonathan reports, ducking behind a fallen tree and sending shot after shot in the direction you’d seen the figure moving.
“Lucas,” You turned and looked at him, he was still lying on the ground. “Get the others to camp. Keep low! Tell Hopper!”
His dark eyes stared at you for a moment before nodding his head, grabbing Vicky’s hand, and pulling her from the group. Nick and Laura followed close behind. You stepped out from behind the tree to cover their backs, sending shot after shot toward the direction of the gunfire. A shout from the distance gave you an indication that one of them hit. Argyle and Jonathan moved to get better vantage, but you stayed in place, looking out for the dark figures that moved through the trees like ghosts.
“On the right!” Argyle screamed toward you, his eyes wide with a mix of shock and fear.
Your head whipped to the right, pointing, and shooting as you watched someone move closer to you. The shotgun clipped a tree causing small splinters into the air.
Slinging your shotgun across your back, you moved and ducked to move more toward the left, keeping your eyes on their form. Whoever they were, they were small, roughly the same height as you. Your eyes caught a short curly hair as you moved more behind them.
Keeping your body low, and your steps as quiet as possible, you were soon up on them. Using the force of your body weight, you knocked yourself into them, sending both of you to the group.  A deep knock of air could be heard coming from their chest as the two of you knocked onto the ground.
Straddling their waist, you brought your fist back and brought it down hard against their nose. The sickening snap of their nose breaking could be heard along with their cry of pain. You brought your fist down again, breaking the nose more, and spraying blood against the two of you. When you moved to hit them again, instead, they sent a fist into your stomach – knocking the air from your chest. Your weight was shifted as they moved to straddle over you, but you thought quickly, instead, you brought your boots up and knocked them in the chest.
An angry growl came from deep within your chest as you went in for the attack again. You didn’t have control, instead acted on your rage, and landed your fist over and over again.
You didn’t notice the gunshots had stopped or hear the call of your name. The person beneath you reached and fisted your hair tightly and knocked your forehead against theirs. Stars danced in your sight with spots of black and white. Soon you felt your body hitting the forest floor with the twigs, rocks, and your shotgun digging into your back before another knocked violently into your sides.
“Fuck!” You screamed and rolled onto your side, curving your body in as protection, as another kick came against you.
You felt the air knock from your lungs again as a cough racked through your body. It didn’t take much thought to know you were most likely coughing up blood. Your hand gripped tightly to your knife before swinging back and cutting across their arm. You watched as their eyes widened for a moment, giving you a chance to scramble back to your feet.
And in that moment you fully got a look at who you had been fighting for. The cloud of self-defense lifts for a moment for recognition to hit you. Her hair was shorter, but you knew that face. Even beyond the swollen nose, and bruises starting to form – it was Wendy.
“W-Wendy?” You rasped out with a puff of air escaping your lungs.
Her hand grasped tightly to her bleeding air as she looked at you. A shout of your name drew your attention away, and before you knew it, Wendy was slipping from your sight.
“Wait!” You shouted, moving to chase after her and ignoring the pain that was shooting through your body.
You caught up to her quickly, moving to throw yourself against her and knocking her back down against the forest floor. She screamed out in pain again and fought against you. But your injuries weren’t as bad as hers, giving you the upper hand.
“Wendy! Stop! It’s me! It’s me!” You shouted toward her, grabbing tightly to her arms, and holding them down beside her.
But she was crazed, fighting against you again. Wendy freed her arms and sent her fist into the side of your head before twisting her boy from beneath you. Wendy moved to stand quickly and the last thing you saw was the flash of her boot before everything around you went dark.
Eddie panted heavily as he moved through the forest, his eyes frantically searching from side to side, for any sight of you. When Lucas came running back into came without you, Jonathan, or Argyle – he’d never felt a fear like that before. He was already upset and scared by the fact that Hopper had put him on another detail. Eddie was the first to intercept Lucas the moment he spotted him running through the front yard of the Lab toward the main entrance.
“Where is she!?” Eddie spoke, his eyes frantic as he stared down at the younger man.
But now here Eddie stood in the middle of the forest with no sight of you. It didn’t take long for him to find Jonathan and Argyle – Steve, Hopper, and Enzo coming with him the moment Lucas spoke of the group falling under attack. But when there wasn’t a sight of you that sickening feeling returned and only worse.
“She went to the left, lost sight of her maybe ten minutes ago,” Jonathan explained. “A small group from the radicals cornered us. But we got one and the others ran off – except for one. That’s the one she went after.”
“And you left her alone without having coverage?” Hopper scolded.
“We were outnumbered, man. I’d say we did pretty good with the little we had!” Argyle argued.
“Span out, find her, now!” Eddie ordered with conviction and walked off in the direction Jonathan had said he last saw you walk off in.
Eddie called out your name over and over for what felt like forever but knew it was only minutes. His heart wouldn’t stop beating erratically against his chest as he swept his eyes looking for you. He took a step and felt something against the bottom of his feet. When his dark eyes looked down, Eddie saw the glint of a blade beneath the heavy sole of his boot. Bending down, Eddie’s fear only worsened when he recognized your knife. The heavy handle of the knife felt like a pound of lead in his palms as he stared down at it.
“Fuck,” Steve whispered as he came up beside Eddie, “Wait…look,”
Steve pointed off to the left where an obvious splatter of blood rested on the bright green leaves of a bush. Eddie was the first to move forward, sliding the knife into his back pocket. He followed the path of blood spatter and drops and stumbled across the sigh of your boots peaking from behind a cluster of bushes.
The way he screamed your name was of nothing but deep fear and pain. Eddie rushed forward and scraped his knees down against the forest floor, ignoring the shooting pain in his knees, as his eyes fell upon your unconscious form.
“Oh, baby,” His voice cracking, with shaking hands reaching out to gently caress your face, a curse leaving his mouth as he saw the blood, and forming bruises, against your skin. “Fuck!”
“Shit” Steve cursed coming up behind him, his fingers moving through his dark curls and gripping them tightly. “Hopper! Over here!”
Eddie felt a small bubble of relief when he saw the small rise and fall of your chest. He moved like he was afraid to touch you, afraid to hurt you more, with his hand caressing against your cheek. He ignored the drops of tears that fell against your cheek and mixed with your blood, instead whispering softly to you. Begging for your eyes to open, and praying to whatever was out there that he wasn’t going to lose you again.
Hope you all enjoyed it! If you did, please like + reblog it really helps and lets me know if people are reading/enjoying/want more. I appreciate all of you for taking the time to read this. I am still unsure how many chapters this will be (I'm shooting for no more than 30) but we're coming to the climax! Also, Wendy never died...huh...

okay, i was just rewatching season 4, and i realized something, remember this scene in the airport right in the beginning of the series? Mike says “i handpicked those for you in Hawkins” most likely he got those from the field that we also saw in the end of this season, and the one of the very first scenes in season 3. now, i was watching the very last episode, and the very last scene, and i noticed when el was walking forward, she picked up dead flowers, specifically the same colors Mike got her as a gift back in the beginning (yellow and purple). this means the fall/deadness of their relationship, because as we already know, they are NOT on good terms. i mean i really tried to like their ship, but i just cant see it without being toxic, and having communication issues for example: El felt the need to lie about her life and Lenora, and how she had friends, and everything was good. why would she need to lie? shouldnt they trust each other and tell each other things like this? And back in the beginning when Mike tells Lucas that they dont want to be popular, and the airport scene when El says that she wants burritos for breakfast, Mike says something like “really? no i mean i trust you,” that scene to me meant that Mike was very awkward, and not acting like himself. and not to mention but Mikes outfit was not himself AT ALL. Argyle says “oh no its a shitty knockoff,” meaning again, that mike is acting like someone hes not in front of his girlfriend.
now, i wanna talk about the roller rink incident, because there is a LOT more stuff going on then what it seems. so basically Mike and Will are fighting while trying to find El, and Will says “well what about us?” and Will DID NOT mean this romantically, but Mike took this romantically?! Will meant it as “Ok i get it, you have a girlfriend, but what about our friendship?” Mike took it as romantic, which is why he said “We’re friend! We’re friends!” and the fact that he said it two times is also insane, and his tone of voice when he said it was so tense almost. when people in other shows/movies say they are just friends, they most if the time end up as an endgame couple. for example: the office, Jim and Pam, they both had crushes on each other throughout the first seasons, but oh look they were an endgame couple, and even got married. what im trying to say is, Mike took it romantically, when Will didnt.
And another thing with this fight, is that as soon as Mike said “We’re friends” the song “in the closet” started playing, and some people think “oh its because Els in a closet” which yes, in a way, but it was an employee’s shed. and also this song started playing RIGHT AFTER Mike assured that they were “just friends” little sketchy right? And i also just wanted to point out that after Mike said that, he saw Wills face and immediately knew he made him sad, and we can see the tension in his face almost disappeared.
now right after the skate incident, El, Mike and Will were all standing there in a triangle if i may point out, but anyways, we can see Will reacted normally, he said “oh my god..” but Mike reacted very aggressively towards it. and the camera pans over to El sitting alone at a table, and Mike and Will are right next to each other. really quickly, i wanna point a few things out. when angela takes el onto the rink, we can see Mike not care, hes just like “meh” but Will knows, so he stands up and says “oh no” which directly after he says that, he stands up so quickly, but this is weird for me. because Mike can sense when something is wrong with Will, but not El. because we see that when angela comes over to the table they are sitting at, it is very tense but Mike doesnt really notice, but Mike notices when something is wrong with Will almost IMMEDIATELY. and this is proven back in s2. so Will is closing his locker and Mike says something like “come on” and Will looks worried or even tense, and Mike immediately notices, because he says “what” many times and not to mention in his soft voice that he only uses for Will. so i think this means Mike understands Will and Will understands Mike.
i think this might be foreshadowing to the break up to Mike and El in season 5. so, once again. BYLER ENDGAME!!
