For the Laicion nation (aka, me and three other people)
I had this illustration commissioned (a big thank you to @lunehowls) for my werewolf AU Laicion fic (still a WIP).
The general pitch is as follows :
AU in which Laios never got to meet his sister again, putting his life on a whole other path, a more desperate one. A military deserter with barely a coin to his name, Laios hitches a ride on a boat to one of the elven continents, where he learns about magical tattoos that binds one’s soul to a wolf’s, effectively making them artificial werewolves. Illegal magic be damned, this feels like the answer to… everything.
In the process, he learns about the existence of an illegal fighting ring in one of the elven cities, where beastmen gladiators gather. Freshly tattooed and without anywhere else to go to, Laios decides to head there, where he meets Lycion, an elf and artificial werewolf gladiator. If they first bond over a simple shared meal, by spending time together (sharing the same room in the barracks, maybe the same bed? gasp) they find that they have a lot in common, notably a shared distaste for the body they were born in, a dysphoria partially remedied by becoming a werewolf.
They bond :)

i've said this before but i think a huge part of the reason undertale's character writing works that doesn't get talked about enough is the fact that it doesn't fall into the trap of having FRIENDSHIP fix everything. i mean in a way it kind of does but like. the characters fix their own mistakes. they are the ones to decide they've done wrong and take action to fix it, not you. they just realize that through frisk. friendship gives them the new perspective necessary to change their ways, but it's only half the solution.
it's alphys who decides, on her own, to take the amalgamates home and admit her mistakes. it's undyne who, when it's her turn to attack you, outside her flaming house, decides there's no point in this path of mindless murder and destruction she's dug for herself, and breaks the cycle herself by dropping her weapon and deciding not to fight you anymore. it's asgore who, after you've done nothing but attack him, realizes what a coward he's been and decides to end the cycle of violence at the cost of his own life. it's mettaton who hears the voices of the hundreds who love him, and who he loves, and realizes that for now, it's more worth it for him to be content where he is. it's asriel who, despite the comfort of pretending chara's still with him, chooses to recognize frisk as who they really are, and face a harsh reality so he can save his family. sans sees your determination and perseverance in the face of hopelessness and decides that maybe there is something to fight for, all by simply watching you. hell, papyrus gives up his fight entirely on his own- all he needs is an opportunity to really think his plan to join the guard through, and a taste of what that guard actually stands for, and he decides it's not worth it without you saying a word. undertale presents you with all these flawed and complex characters and says, "here, look. they're just like you, and they chose to save themselves, despite everything in them telling them they were damned. will you do the same?"

Blorbo pattern is below the read more! Based on this post by @thewiglesswonder
Sew the darts on the two Blorbo body pieces
Sew the two Blorbo body pieces to each other, right sides together (sew the curved edge, and leave the straight line at the bottom unsewn)
Sew the Blorbo body base to the bottom of the Blorbo body pieces (pin it well, with the front roughly in line with the dart on the front half of the body; this does not have to be precise, Blorbo can be a little irregularly shaped, it’s fine). Leave an opening for turning of a few inches left unsewn, turn the body right side out
Put two leg pieces right sides together and sew the side seams (leave the top, where it attaches to the body, and the bottom, where it will attach to the foot, unsewn). Repeat with the second leg.
Pin a foot piece to the bottom of a leg, with the front of the foot roughly lined up with the seam at the front of the foot. Sew around (this can be a little tricky, it might be easier to hand sew than to machine sew this part). Repeat with second leg and foot. Turn legs right side out through the opening at the top of the leg
Finishing:
Embroider the face, either before step 2 or after step 3
Stuff the body at any point after step 3, after embroidering the face
Sew the opening for turning in the body closed
Stuff the legs after step 5. Tuck the seam allowance at the top inside the leg; I ended up tucking about ½” of fabric in instead of ¼” to make the leg a bit shorter, but if you are using an extra fluffy fabric you might want it closer to the ¼”
Pin the legs in place on the front of Blorbo and ladder stitch around the base of the leg
You’re done!!! Enjoy your new blorbo, and if you post it on tumblr I’d love to be tagged @tj-crochets (that’s not a requirement for using the pattern, you do not have to do it, I just love seeing things people make from patterns I wrote)

OH ARTHUR BENNETT.. such a gorgeous and intriguing character. terribly burdened by a GRUESOME set of crimes, his light suffocated by a HEAVY century of GUILT. so tragic, so dark and broody, and yet PAINFULLY awkward in any social setting ever

An alternative to google docs
To paraphrase a recent post: google docs is pants as a writing tool.
I'm suggesting MS Word as an alternative. Yeah, I know, it's not perfect, but it is (IMO), better than google docs.
But I'm not just suggesting Word when I suggest Word. I'm suggesting a free Microsoft account, which gives you Word and OneDrive.
It only takes a minute or two and a free account gets you:
Word in the browser
A OneDrive with 5gb of storage - now, 5gb might not be much holistically but in terms of text based documents, it's decent. My entire 'Fic' folder is 2.11gb. That's everything I've ever written and all their drafts, wips and their multiple drafts, betaed fics, ideas, writing refs and guidance, archived drafts/fics, AND the 500+ fics I've downloaded as epubs from AO3).
Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneNote - basically the whole Microsoft365 suite - in the browser
I use Word exclusively, both for fic and for work (where I write extensively), and the online version does everything I need. It autosaves, has version control/reversion, and sharing (if that's what you're into), and you can seamlessly copy and paste from Word into AO3's rich text editor - no formatting adjustments required.
Anyway, it's something to think about. If you want to give it a try, the simplest way is to create a new OneDrive account, which will also give you everything else.
Go here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/onedrive/online-cloud-storage (clickable link)
Click 'Create a free account'.
Click 'get a new email address' and follow the prompts (recommended but not required) or use an existing email address. If you create a new email address, don't actually use it for email. It's just the umbrella the account sits under.
That's it; you're done.

Anyway let's talk about Callum, Finnegrin, and the concept of "dirty work" / "getting your hands dirty"
According to definitions, lmao, dirty work or" to do someone's dirty means to do a task for them that is dishonest or unpleasant and which they do not want to do themselves". This is, in many ways, one of the first things we learn about Finnegrin, and how he consistently dodges getting his hands dirty:
We learn from Villads he has a reputation of simply drowning people (or feeding them to sea leviathans) rather than outright murdering them first hand
Elmer is the one who directly tortures Callum and mandhandles the prisoners, whereas (with the exception of the blood freezing spell), Finnegrin does not
Rayla even critiques this trait in Chasing Shadows.
Deadwood pulled back his red-spattered fist and looked to the balcony. Finnegrin leaned over the railing, still half-shadowed, but Rayla saw him give the slightest nod of his head. Deadwood lowered his fist.
Rayla prickled in anger. “Coward. Why won’t he fight his own battles?”
“Because he doesn’t have to,” Redfeather said.
Finnegrin continues this train of thought with Callum. He's not going to pick who loses a hand; he's going to make Callum do it. He's not going to do dark magic directly, he's going to force Callum into doing it. Whether Finnegrin intended to force Callum to perform the revenge spell beyond just giving the ingredients is unknown, but it'd definitely be in character.
Callum, meanwhile, always does his own dirty work.
This is, in some ways, also where Harrow faltered, because he didn't do his own dirty work. Viren is the one who escalates Avizandum's murder in both bringing up the idea of and going to kill Zym, and procures the ingredients for the revenge spell (something it seems unlikely Harrow would've outright asked him to do, if he knew). Sarai, in spite of her moral objections/reservations, is the one who actually kills the Magma Titan. Harrow let Viren do his dirty work until it steadily destroyed both of them. (But post for another day, maybe.)
Aaravos also works through / uses other people for his own ends, heaping blame and harm and dark magic on their shoulders till they collapse or meet their ends to well, meet his intended ends. Callum and Claudia are just his most recent victims/collaborators.
Likewise, Finnegrin not doing his own dirty work is also his undoing, because the person who was actually doing his dirty work turns against him and defeats him.
I don't know if I necessarily have a point to all this, but 1) thought the contrast was interesting, 2) the juxtaposition between dirty vs cleanliness as a concept and how Callum technically straddles that line while still being very much a good person, and 3) the usual "Elmer foreshadows Callum breaking away from and ultimately defeating Aaravos" schtick. Also irony - gotta love the irony

"The outer reaches of space remain unexplored by humankind to this day, but its greed is relentless. We grasp and yearn and hunger for knowledge— answers to questions we cry out into the endless void expecting to understand, expecting the stars to respond. The stars will not, but one day something else will— and we will not like what it has to say." — Rome Solomon, Beyond the Exosphere (1965)
