i think there's horse sexism in the kentucky derby . field of twenty horses, right? plus a couple more runners-up that can swap in if somebody has to drop out . not a single filly in the lineup. which obviously doesn't mean i think that like ... the HORSES are sexist . but i imagine that in a field where most of the top trainers are men themselves, there's more of a focus on training the colts that come across their paths, and perhaps even more colts being selected to be trained towards these big races in the first place . a horse is a horse is a horse, they all go fast, but there's probably an unconscious bias from breeders, trainers, owners, etc that prevents the field from being more diversified

#most jockeys are very small men also . as opposed to average-small women #you'd think there'd be more women jockeys . simply because of the odds of being short or slim enough to ride a horse fast #but it's mostly guys #okay scratch that . most of the small-time people i know who are horse people are women. the local tracks are probably full of em #but the guys whose names you see every year? are guys . glass ceiling like any field but it's extra stupid in this one #because not only does it cover the human people involved in the sport. it extends to literal farm animals #starting to think the thoroughbred series lied to little old sixth grade me you guys ........ #lkajsldkfj . i read those books and i was like . okay so the american horse racing culture is flooded with plucky young women . babe no #q

Petsitting not my breed is very difficult. I grew up with pugs, among other dogs, and I just am being driven absolutely crazy by this little creature. The sounds. The licking. The doggie smell. And her and Misty are nearly incapable of playing nicely together so also the dog management. Don't like. Very unhappy. Cannot wait for her to go home Friday

i have the most autistic cat on the planet. hes extra sensitive to certain sounds (refused to wear his collar until i took the bell off of it). he stims (slides the fleshy part of his paws down the surface of the posters on my wall to hear and feel them make that weird squeaky noise). he never meows like literally ever. he likes being petted but Only when hes standing on a surface that puts him at an equal height with me. he has a favorite plastic bin on the windowsill that he sleeps in like every afternoon and i dont know what he would do if i moved it. truly the Autism Creature

5. Right now its Imra Ardeen from legion of superheroes. I love the way my design for her looks, and it is so, so much fun to draw. SO pink.

18. Currently I'm just trying to get good at digital art in general. I have never been very good at it and now i'm just trying to figure out how everything works. Its so different from the traditional art i am used to. More specifically though, I'm trying to improve on shading skin.

#asks #and honestly its been kinda hard learning to do digital #because i am so used to FEELING my art be created and and those feelings are something that help me know i makin what i mean to #diffrent strokes feel different and go down different if that makes sense #like the sound and the scratch from paint brushes or pencils doesnt translate over to digital and it bugs me #digital is too... smooth i suppose. idk it makes sense to me #and also i don't have a drawing tablet so i'm just using my fingers on the track pad and its a little extra hard #which i hooonestly probably shouldn't be doing since they're messed up and it makes them lock up sometimes if i draw for too long #but!!! its the only way i can do it and i do like it so ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ #and i think i'm getting better so its worth it

Thanks for the ask, friend! These two questions are a mind-shaker for sure.

💞what’s the most important part of a story for you?

I always chase after feelings, if that makes sense. I grew up reading poetry and short stories and watching theatrical plays. So words and gestures in the service of feelings are important to me. This can obviously be achieved via dialogue, descriptions of spaces, characterization, etc. But usually, I strive for a singular feeling while writing (even if I consciously cannot point to it) and quite enjoy looking for it in other people's writing.

🎈describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

I should probably think more on this, but I'll give it a shot.

We return to the theme of poetry - because my writing truly feels that way. 99% of the time, I have a moment (or a sentence, an image, a look) that I'd like to achieve and then build my entire fic around it.

I'm a fan of economic writing, keeping things short and precise where possible and maximizing on characterization, plot and emotional impact. I love to play with obscure canonical details and latch on to them for dear life, even if the reader doesn't notice them at all.

As far as mood is concerned, I think it's no surprise that I highly enjoy pure angst, moral ambiguity, reconciliations and coming together between friends or lovers, relationships that are difficult to classify, moments that transcend time and setting, and hard-core epic hero stuff 😄

the problem with me is i have so many opinions on visual novel UI design and exactly 0 coding ability to actually make it into reality

#actually thats not TOTALLY true. i have some basics of javascript for some ungodly reason #but for renpy i'll have to start from scratch LOL pray for me #played too many tiny indie games recently. will never fault them for their use of default ui....BUT #playing planetarian reminded me what i want in VN UI and now im feeling like i need to take things into my own hands #list of things i think are vital in vn ui: #1) 4 by 3 that aspect ratio #jk jk #you dont HAVE to........but i think u should #EVEN if ur not 4:3ing it I DO GENUINELY think you should make your textbox narrower #also dont put too much words in ur textbox. use nvl mode if you need more than two short sentences #also fonts with more generous spacing blease #that ones another one just for me. but i think itd help a lot with accessibility #also more feedback. put a little sound in ur button presses. also sound in general is often neglected i think #they started as 'sound novels' after all #its not vital but i think adding some auditory feedback can help with the tactility of the game. ive always found renpys default ui very...s #slippery? im sliding around here #but basically my only desire is to recreate the UI of early-mid 2000s vns in renpy. my only desire #well actually i dont mind the spacebar functioning as an extra enter button in modern games #we dont really need the old spacebar-hides-textbox situation most of the time #also maybe having proper options menus is better than just right clicking and going through a dropdown LOL
