rules: answer ten questions, then ask more and tag ten people!
1. what are your thoughts on “said is dead” and other such things?
i do think that it all boils down to advice. for some it’s helpful, for others it’s not. and i understand that people acting as though they’re laws of writing is an issue. that being said, i don’t think it’s right to dismiss them entirely. sometimes, said isn’t the right word, you are using too many adverbs, and maybe you do need to trim the fat in regards to your verbose vernacular!
2. what is the hardest thing about writing?
knowing my target audience. i’ve talked to people who said that the tone and overall premise of my story would probably have it be marketed as ya, but if i’m being honest there’s content in there that makes me think otherwise. my biggest influences on this current wip are john steinbeck’s east of eden and sheri holman’s the dress lodger - excellent books in their own right, but with content probably too inappropriate for ya (both focus a lot on non-graphic sex and prostitution.)
3. what are your biggest fears about writing?
how the topics in my work will be received. i have unpopular opinions regarding writing that i feel are bound to show up in my work, and i worry about how other people will react. it’s a small fear, though: i tell myself i was given a voice for a reason, and keep going on!
4. what genres do you think are the more underrated?
gaslamp fantasy. it’s just such an amazing setting, the 19th century, and i’m sad it isn’t utilized in fantasy enough. also more than a little irritated that it keeps getting confused with steampunk.
5. what about overrated?
...i don’t know? i can rattle off some books that i think are overrated, but as for genres i don’t really have much to say.
6. what tropes do you love?
girls who are feminine but capable and don’t have to sacrifice their kindness
childhood-friends-to-lovers
any scene in writing with mouthwatering descriptions of food/desserts (food p0rn, i think it’s called)
healthy familial relationships
the fabulously evil villain, a la cathy ames or jorg ancrath
7. what tropes do you dislike?
“i’m not like OTHER girls”
the character that gets villainized in the name of “twu wuv” (i mean you, chretien de troyes)
girl-disguises-herself-as-boy trope
8. what challenges have you faced in your writing career?
time management. i’m terrible at it. oof.
9. tumblr, wattpad, ao3, wordpress, or other for sharing your works?
multiple! ao3′s just for my fanfictions, though
ao3
wattpad
10. is there an author you hope will notice and review your story when it is published?
if john steinbeck came back from the dead to review my story i’d probably fall and get a concussion.
but if it’s just authors who are alive: brandon sanderson!
and now, the questions i’ve got for you all under the cut!
1. what is your most overrated trope?
2. what is a book that you love that has influenced your work and how?
3. what book do you loathe that motivates you out of spite?
4. how do you manage your time as a writer?
5. what work do you consider your magnum opus - your favorite piece, so to speak?
6. self-publishing or traditional?
7. do you tend to snack on things when you write?
8. what’s the longest you’ve ever written in a day?
9. what other media have influenced you besides books?
10. what’s a trope or character archetype you want to see more of in fiction?

(congrats!! and i love your tarot deck!! so beautiful!) There is a monster that keeps chasing me in my nightmares, and I'm scared of what this could possibly mean and if I should face it? It's never ending and my friend is worried about me. Thank you - Aleksandra Tasheva
Gil reaches for his phone, but Tybee shakes his head. “Can’t text Adiran here, sweets. No signal.” Gil frowns and shuffles his deck, fingers moving in a clear sign of agitation, rather than any concentrated effort. Tybee bumped him with a shoulder, smiling reassuringly.
“Have a look, sweets. It might not be a proper Night Mare. Won’t know until we look.”
Gil lays the cards out in an arc, the shape of an eye revealing itself.
Tumblr media
He nods to you, urging you to select the card that will become the pupil.
Tumblr media
Tybee coos in interest at the card revealed, and Gil’s brows knit in concentration.
“The Heirophant suggests you feel constrained by society, or are maybe running from a responsibility?”
“Or that you’re afraid of becoming your parents,” Tybee chimes in “helpfully”. Gil ignores him.
“It isn’t going to go away, whatever it is, until you acknowledge it. There’s a lesson to be learned here. Face it, and be open to what it has to teach.”
“Boring,” Tybee sighs, and Gil kicks him under the table.

Happy STS!! What crossovers within your WIPs or others or even published works would you love to do? // What Harry Potter Houses do your main OC's belong to? // Is there a genre you've never written before but want to?
oooooh!! fun questions :D
within my WIPs:
at one point i had it set up to where i could cross Metanoia over with everything, and i had a daydream where i did a crossover between it & my first finished novel, Sapphire Dreaming. i also had another daydream where i crossed it over with my first major worldbuilding project/big idea, Overmorrow.
other WIPs:
you mentioned crossing over with So Said the King once, & I think that would be awesome. I also think crossing over with @quilloftheclouds One Siren’s Soul would be fun!! or maybe @dogwrites From the Wayward! (&&& like. also @klywrites RSverse.)
published works:
hmmm. i do mental crossovers all the time with the Dragon Age series. I know it’s not... technically a book series, considering my only experience is the games, but that’s what’s off the top of my head :P
-
Harry Potter Houses
i love this question, and not just because obviously that was the first thing that i did for them XD
Alinora - Slytherin
Elaena - Slytherin
Lyr - Gryffindor or Hufflepuff
Ava - Hufflepuff
Talitha - Ravenclaw
Aishlynn - Gryffindor
Viviana - Ravenclaw
Asa - Hufflepuff
-
& hmmm... I think writing a mystery could be fun? though I would want to do fantasy + mystery. & then I’ve never written dystopia, and I think that could be really fun?? & scifi, of course.

Ushas by E.S. Posthumus
Tumblr media
Gee, that’s a hard one!
(Yes, I associate this one with Dawn)
[Image text: Ushas is the prominent goddess of dawn in the Vedas. She is depicted as the one who imbues life to all beings, as the "life of all life" and "breath of all breaths", according to Jones and Ryan.]

🎵 🎵 🎵 !!!!
Thank you for the ask!
Garden - Lil Skies
This song is wholly Ramais. It's very gritty and hardworking, and talks a lot about doing hard work to get to where you deserve. It's probably one of the 'deeper' rap songs I listen to aha.
Candy Paint - Post Malone
This song was a very difficult song to place a character to, because for the most part, I don't write stories with flighty or flexy characters! But I then remembered this character from a long hiatused (is that a word? Idk) wip I have called Denzel, and though he tries to avoid his wealth, he does it in ways that gets him labelled the 'rich overprivileged bad boy' because he acts out, but his parents' wealth covers him. He's never gotten in proper trouble, nor does he actually know what being anything but rich feels like.
watch - Billie Eilish
Hmm. This song fits Ami and Ascha, Ami because this would totally be her fight song, and Ascha because romantic break up songs are her Thing™
Thank you for the ask!!

Thank you so much, Blake! ❤️❤️
1. what did you learn about yourself this year?
That I’m not just kinda gay, I’m REALLY gay babeyyyyyy
But on a more serious note, discovering I was a lesbian was the most growing I’ve done in years. It really felt like I started to blossom after coming out to myself. I feel more confidant in my own body, firm in my beliefs and it’s like I can finally be myself without feeling like I’m faking anything.
2. best moment of the year?
Going to a pride festival with my aunt and her gf and their lesbian friends the day I came out to them. It was also the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots which made it extra special.
4. what was the biggest change you experienced this year?
There’s something really personal that’s happened since discovering who I was. It’s not easy and I’ve cried a lot over it. But I don’t really want to get into it since I’m still going through it. Just know that it’s okay and it’s part of the growing process! :>
