CYBERVERSE ACID STORM IS GENDER-FLUID AND NO ONE TOLD ME???
Apparently it was originally an animation bug but animators kept with it and said acid storm is gender-fluid and has an ability to change from a masc to femme appearance at any time! That’s so cool and I missed it the 3 times I’ve watched the show 😭

This is a part of my AU, of Transformers:Cyberverse, where they are humanized.
In this drawing, I imagined what a Shattered Glass Windblade would look like in my style. And that's how it is.
I imagine how much Slipstream and the seeker seeker squad would be scared if they saw two Windblades and realized that one of the seeker was from the reverse.

It's been somewhere around eleven years and I still have no idea where I first got the idea that tailgate was a girl.
Logically it's most likely something to do with the MTMTE "the ingenue" thing, but that doesn't feel right. If nothing else because,
a) I didn't start reading about mtmte on tfwiki until some time in 2013-2014 (I say "about" because I didn't manage to actually read anything more than tfwiki articles and previews and pinterest/google images panel and page excerpts until around 2015-2016) so I'm pretty certain I never saw the promo that called him "the ingenue" (I've no memory of seeing it prior)
b) I didn't know "ingenue" was feminine until I saw the tfwiki article about it
c) I have concrete memories that when I did start reading the tfwiki articles I was like. "wait what? why are they saying tailgate's a guy? tailgate's a girl. she's a girl. where did they get the idea she's a guy?"
having just checked my copies of the dreamwave transformers universe profiles (which were in chinese because I got them as a gift when I was a kid for I think lunar new year), which was my main theory for where I got the idea that Tailgate was a girl (that the translators might've switched some of the characters' genders since that's a thing that happens), I can say that unless I misread something, the chinese translations of the dw tf universe profiles were not what gave me the idea
(and the art used for tg in the book looks like this so I don't think it was a case of kid me seeing the art and going "yeah that looks like a girl")
Tumblr media
(on the other hand I still get "tailgate is a girl name" vibes in my head when I see it written down/think about it)
(I know this isn't a case of me misremembering or confusing myself or anything because up until like. 2020 I still had a thing in my brain that would try to automatically correct every instance of tailgate being referred to with he/him to she/her)
my current theories are that I either got the idea from youtube comments under a random video (which I think is unlikely considering that tailgate basically didn't exist to most people prior to 2012 and I mostly watched toy reviews and clips/episodes of tfa, cybertron, and armada)
or that I somehow stumbled on a forum where people were discussing the ingenue thing and got the takeaway that tailgate was a girl (possible, but I didn't really browse anything other than youtube prior to 2013)
or that I read about or saw the tfp arcee backstory about arcee and tailgate and somehow misinterpreted it as arcee and tailgate being lesbians (possible, but I think I remember getting annoyed at tfp for making tailgate a guy/cliffjumper repaint. though if this theory is right it might've been a case of "reads tfwiki article about tfp arcee's backstory and seeing the tailgate bit, somehow getting 'tailgate is a girl' out of it, then later seeing the actual episode or going to the tfp tailgate article and seeing that he was a cliffjumper repaint and being annoyed". I still don't think that's the case though)

Size chart for (some) Cyberverse characters!
(Note: The size and conversions into feet will be done below, typed out for convenience.)
So I was scrolling around on Seibertron's discussion threads about cyberverse (somebody was trying to bring some political figures in the conversation and I was so confused) to try and ignore my real-life responsibilities and I stumbled upon this post!
It's a (probably) official size chart for certain characters from cyberverse! I posted another version of the screenshot below. Also, here is the original video from where the size chart came from, and it is also in a playlist, including other videos about this cyberverse magazine.
Tumblr media
Note: I suggest you click on the picture or open it in a new tab, as tumblr murdered the quality pretty badly. I also suggest you all to watch the video, because my computer is kinda crappy, and idk if taking a screenshot murdered the quality.
HEIGHT AND CONVERSION INTO IMPERIAL SYSTEM:
This is by the order from left to right, top to bottom. Please note that this isn't exact, as I'm just trying my best with eyeballing the heights, and I'm using google conversion to change this in the imperial system, and I'm also rounding the numbers to only two decimal places. Also, the poses they're doing are really weird (seriously, what are you doing, Acid Storm?), but I'm assuming that wherever their heads end is how tall whoever put this chart together wanted them to be, and they didn't have access to any official art that had everyone standing straight.
By the way, please don't chew me a new butt if I'm off by around 0.10 meters or something. I'm trying my best here, and I don't really want to break out the rulers and grid and do math to find their exact height. I'm just doing this for fun :]
AUTOBOTS/TOP ROW: Bumblebee: 4.75 meters, equivalent to 15.58 feet. Optimus Prime: 5.75 meters, equivalent to 18.86 feet. Windblade: 4.75 meters, equivalent to 15.58 feet. Grimlock: 6 meters, equivalent to 19.69 feet (nice). Hot Rod: 5.25 meters, equivalent to 17.22 feet. Wheeljack: 5.50 meters, equivalent to 18.04 feet. Blurr: 5.50 meters, equivalent to 18.04 feet. Ratchet: 5.65 meters, equivalent to 18.54 feet.
DECEPTICONS/BOTTOM ROW: Megatron: 6.25 meters, equivalent to 20.50 feet. Starscream: 5.10 meters, equivalent to 16.73 feet. Shockwave: 5.75 meters, equivalent to 18.86 feet. Thundercracker: 4.65 meters, equivalent to 15.26 feet. Shadow Striker: 5.65 meters, equivalent to 18.54 feet. Acid Storm: 4.65 meters, equivalent to 15.26 feet. Soundwave: 5.65 meters, equivalent to 18.54 feet. Slipstream: 4.65 meters, equivalent to 15.26 feet.
Below the cut is some stuff that I found interesting, like the average of heights, orders from shortest to tallest, surprises I had, and other thoughts. Take a look!
AVERAGE HEIGHTS OF AUTOBOTS: 5.39 meters, equivalent to 17.69 feet (nice).
AVERAGE HEIGHTS OF DECEPTICONS: 5.29 meters, equivalent to 17.37 feet.
AVERAGE HEIGHTS OF BOTS WITH LAND-BASED ALT-MODES (there were 11 of them in total; 7 Autobots, 4 Decepticons): 5.61 meters, equivalent to 18.40 feet.
AVERAGE HEIGHTS OF BOTS WITH AERIAL-BASED ALT-MODES (there were 5 of them in total; 1 Autobot, 4 Decepticons): 4.76 meters, equivalent to 15.62 feet.
-----
Height re-order; Tallest to shortest, all bots: 1. Megatron (6.25 m // 20.50 ft) 2. Grimlock (6 m // 19.69 ft) 3. Optimus Prime and Shockwave (Both 5.75 m // 18.86 ft) 4. Ratchet, Shadow Striker, and Soundwave (All 5.65 m // 18.54 ft) 5. Blurr and Wheeljack (Both 5.50 m // 18.04 ft) 6. Hot Rod (5.25 m // 17.22 ft) 7. Starscream (5.10 m // 16.73 ft) 8. Bumblebee and Windblade (Both 4.75 m // 15.58 ft) 9. Acid Storm, Slipstream, and Thundercracker (All 4.65 m // 15.26 ft)
Height re-order; Tallest to shortest, Autobots only: 1. Grimlock (6 m // 19.69 ft) 2. Optimus Prime (5.75 m // 18.54 ft) 3. Ratchet (5.65 m // 18.54 ft) 4. Blurr and Wheeljack (Both 5.50 m // 18.04 ft) 5. Hot Rod (5.25 m // 17.22 ft) 6. Bumblebee and Windblade (Both 4.75 m // 15.58 ft)
Height re-order; Tallest to shortest, Decepticons only: 1. Megatron (6.25 m // 20.50 ft) 2. Shockwave (5.75 m // 18.86 ft) 3. Shadow Striker, and Soundwave (Both 5.65 m // 18.54 ft) 4. Starscream (5.10 m // 16.73 ft) 5. Acid Storm, Slipstream, and Thundercracker (All 4.65 m // 15.26 ft)
-----
This whole list was pretty interesting, although I do feel like the animators weren't all that faithful to this (heck, I don't think they had this, and were just told general guidelines to follow to make each character a certain height.) Also, I'd have thought the seekers (and Windblade) would have been taller than most of the other bots that have land-based alt-modes, like Bumblebee or Hot Rod. I guess not in this continuity.
Considering that the other bots that are the same height as Shadow Striker or taller are either SUVs, tanks, large trucks, dinosaurs, etc, while Shadow Striker is just a sports car is pretty interesting.
I also like to imagine that the only reason why Starscream is taller than the other seekers listed is because he made some sort of mod (maybe something that has to do to his rockets at his heel/foot?)
It's too bad that there doesn't seem to be anything with the rest of the s1 characters (Because I swear there were more Autobots first shown in background scenes during season one, but I could be wrong), and it really is too bad that we don't have anything for the season 2, 3, and the movie specials.
Still, I hope you all found this post as interesting as I did!

you pointed out nova storm being yellow now and it's going to haunt me wondering if ciro neili (did some of the character designs) did that as a friggin' monkey team reference
okay so the thing is Nova Storm is a rainmaker. a character that barely exists but IS from G1.
Tumblr media
the yellow one. but the thing is that even though the rainmakers are like, quite popular, since they are seekers, and have been referenced in fanon for decades, this character did not get a name until 2015. From Ask Vector Prime. So the rainmakers are Acid Storm (green), Ion Storm (blue) and Nova Storm (yellow.)
Obviously Nova Storm (yellow) is very confusingly similar to completely unrelated character Sunstorm. The other yellow seeker.
Tumblr media
Apparently some old fanon staight up asserts Nova Storm is just a miscoloured Sunstorm? god. who knows. Also, to be clear, despite the fact Sunstorm's name ends in -storm, he is NOT a rainmaker. completely unaffiliated. coincidental.
this is where shit gets weird
so in 2015 Nova Storm gets a name. okay, solid. We have agreed the yellow one is named Nova Storm.
Three years later in 2018, Cyberverse airs. This is the new Nova Storm.
Tumblr media
Purple
Girl
why girl? why purple?
"well nate," you say, "isnt more girls better? why would you question that?"
well because this is slipstream:
Tumblr media
Why are they so similar????? Both purple, both girls. like, really similar purples, too! Theres different models for the girl and boy seekers.
Tumblr media
so this is Cyberverse Acid Storm, another rainmaker. due to, I believe, a miscommunication during production, some episodes use the female seeker model for Acid Storm and some use the male. Addressing this on twitter staff has owned up to the mistake and instead of getting defensive, rolled with it and said hey, well, its in there, so its canon! Acid Storm is genderfluid lol. And I kind of love that.
In any case you can see distinct differences in the models, so like. if Nova Storm used the male model, at least it would be different from slipstream. as it stands purple nova storm, for some reason, is one of the most frequently appearing background seekers, so it ends up, imho, being VERY confusing. especially if you arent like me and the rest of us freaks and you cant recognize every character by a picture of their ankle.
so like, to be clear, I'm pretty sure Cyberverse is actually the first time any actual STORY used the name nova storm. I think the only thing predating cyberverse is the ask vector prime. at the very minimum this is the first major use of the name, for the purple female character. at this point the connection to the yellow rainmaker is.... tenuous??????
but then we drop the card game:
Tumblr media
which says she, so i guess... girl?
Tumblr media
nova storm also apparently appears in idw 2019 where, again, apparently, girl? but look. yellow. YELLOW. all yellow. rainmaker.
so THIS:
Tumblr media
this is the art attached to the ask vector prime post. what even the FUCK is that. sorry the art is nice but what IS that. is that a SEEKER? WHO is that. that PRIMARILY black with gold accents. thats not the rainmaker design or even the purple one we'd get.
Tumblr media
i genuinely hate referencing this but the only other appearance of nova storm is as an angry birds pig costume and while its still mostly yellow i DISTINCTLY note the black cannons and yellow and hands like. thats. thats from the ask vector prime design.
...right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is the Iron Factory third party Nova Storm figure from their rainmakers set. this was revealed in 2019. the angry birds costume is from 2020. 2020. i genuinely think it might be possible iron factory put their foot down and said "the black and gold design fucks" and everyone forgot hes suppsoed to be neon yellow
now HERE... HERE FINALLY.... is EARTHSPARK NOVA STORM
Tumblr media
holy shit. look at this. we have nuked the yellow from this design. she's now PRIMARILY black with gold HIGHLIGHTS. who IS this. i guess nova storm has actually now been female in MORE appearances than male????? and as far as I can tell, the gold and black design traces specifically back to deviantart user bdixonarts who has virtually no industry credits OTHER than creating the modern design for Nova Storm???? she, uh, crushed it, i guess
also an incredibly fun note i didnt know until just now: do you know who voiced earthspark nova storm? any guesses?
Nicole Dubuc. nicole fucking duboc plays her AND skywarp. nicole dubuc is the head writer. she wrote rescue bots. and final side note, tfp ratchet's catchphrase "I needed that!" came explicitly from her scripts lol. god this is so funny to me she went from recording rescue bumblebee's lines before they were replaced with beeps to just straight up being Novastorm and Skywarp in a mainline show.
anyway who the FUCK is nova storm?
dude, who the fuck knows.

So, the G1 men who are women in at least one other continuity;
Override (Cybertron, Bayverse, Aligned, Animated maybe there are two Overrides — one male and one female)
Joyride (Cybertron)
Tread( )bolt (Energon)
Cliffjumper (Armada)
Ironhide (Armada)
G2 Windrazor? (Ask Vector Prime, Legends, 2007 toy)
Red Alert (Universe toy in Japan, Animated)
Bombshell (Cybertron)
Nightbeat (Animated)
Sunstreaker (Animated)
Wingthing (Animated)
Drag Strip (Animated)
Thunderclap? (Aligned)
Whirl (Aligned, sort of — there's the male empurata Whirl in the Wreckers but also a female Whirl in Rescue Bots, the man barely exists in the continuity)
G2 Skyjack / Skyfall (Aligned)
Skimmer (Kreo)
Swoop (Cyberverse)
Nova Storm (Cyberverse, Earthspark)
Skywarp (Cyberverse, Earthspark)
Cosmos (Cyberverse)
Frenzy (Earthspark)
Devastator was apparently female in some random universe somebody hopped into for five seconds in some Funpub comic i think? But it was Funpub so...
Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime from some play was apparently established as a woman in Ask Vector Prime. I didn't write her or Devastator down originally because they're barely canon, so i'm going off of memory.
Unicron Trilogy Scourge was also female in the same thing, because clone of Optimus and all.
Dub gender changes;
G1 Starscream was female in the movie's french and turkish dubs, but only the movie. Male in the rest of the series.
G1 Shrapnel was also female in the movie's french and russian dubs, but movie only.
Cyberverse Thrust was female in the japanese dub (renamed Red Wing).
Miscallenous;
G1 Ratchet was originally imagined as female by Bob Budiansky until Hasbro banned him from putting women in their boy show (tfwiki says the Shout! Factory dvd extras have images of Budiansky's handwritten concepts, it doesn't say if anybody else might've been mentioned as a woman in those but it's possible. I can't access them so).
Cyberverse Jazz would apparently have been a woman if she'd appeared more, even though the toy or something referred to her as male.
There could be more, or some dub stuff etc. which i could be missing. Or something could be weird on the list, i went through tfwiki's female transformer list over twenty hours ago and only wrote down names and continuities and whether it's actual or a dub thing.
Also note that tfwiki considering characters "G1" means Generation One continuity family", and doesn't necessarily mean they were in the Sunbow cartoon or the Marvel comic or in the japanese sequel to the Sunbow cartoon. They could've debuted in IDW1 or even IDW2, or some random tie-in crap to something.
Wait no, there were also maybe at least two bots who were female in TransTech, but i didn't write their names down because TransTech was basically fanmade. TransTech also had a bot who switched between male and female in-universe, as in more than once, but idk if they were in any real continuity. I might have ignored more prseudocanon gender swaps. I don't remember.
Also not women, but Cyberverse Acid Storm is genderfluid (tfwiki used they/them), and some bot named Screwball not being on the binary was mentioned on Nightshade's page but idk Screwball's continuity.
Now that gives us quite the list!

I remember reading that cyberverse AcidStorm is genderfluid
And now I have in mind G1 acid storm helping little acid storm when it's "boy/girl day"
OH I LOVE THAT!!!!!! 🥺💖
They don't have access to even a tenth of the resources they would when Vos was still standing, so mama Acid Storm has to get a bit creative. Imagine him painting little glyphs on baby's wings every morning, asking, "What kind of day is it, raincloud?" The glyphs are simple enough for sparklings to read and understand, maybe just glyphs that say "he" or "she", or maybe "femme" vs "mech". Sometimes bitty will even ask to change them in the middle of the day, and mama is happy to oblige. He always uses soluble paint for his sparkling's glyphs, so it's easy to wipe off and redo with a wet cloth.
Sometimes the siblings even get in on the fun! They don't like to switch back and forth like their littermate, but they still like having mama paint their wings!

Bots helping out trans transformers - yes, all the circumstances depicted in this context are derivable from canon at this point. Also a post about part of how we got deep into transformers after watching Cyberverse, learning about trans ones, and the value of the stories. The thoughts are after the image IDs.
ID 1 of 4: A diorama of toy transformers on a trans flag floor in front of a sci-fi polity backdrop. On the bunk lying down is a IDW1 Arcee with her right hand raised in enthusiasm. Her left hand is held by PRID Arcee, who is also holding an energon goods box near her counterpart while turning to look to her left, as is Anode next to Lug, in turn near BBM, ER, IDW2, and Energon Arcees doing the same. Three medics are standing around PRID Arcee: BBM Ratchet with a hand to his head an MP Ratchet medical arm out his back, Minerva with an arm around him & clenching a wrench, & a custom Velocity sticking a cylindrical accessory into IDW1 Arcee's back stack as if a syringe. That Arcee has a cable running into her back. her sword hilts, a rifle, a red jetpack, & her old Spotlight Arcee back stacks by the bunk. In front is S86 Arcee with a sword over her shoulder & holding Jhiaxus's head, while Q-TF Arcee holds his rifle. Road Rage, Sideswipe, Chromia, & Animated Arcee block the entry of Ultra Magnus. End ID.
ID 2 of 4: On the same background as before is a diorama with boxes and books assembled to resemble two small apartment homes. A door made out of a sketchpaper cardboard cover is open to the apartment on the left, with a custom Velocity (from TR Blurr) standing in the doorway. Ahead of her to the right is a custom Nautica (from WFC Chromia) being embraced by a custom Lug (from TR Rewind) while a custom Anode (from RID15 Warrior Windblade) has her hands raised in excitement. Behind her IDW2 Arcee (from WFC Nightbird) shares an embrace with WFC Greenlight while the two have arms outstretched looking at the open home. Jetpack and prime armor accessories are at the feet of Lug, Anode, Arcee, and Greenlight, imitating luggage, and Anode has a fusion cannon firing chamber/grip stored in her back turbine, also imitating luggage of a sort. End ID.
ID 3 of 4: On the same backdrop with no additional structures are just some transformer toys. To the left is PotP Elita with and TR Overlord with arms on the hips or hanging to the side, and Origins Bumblebee waving. The three are watching with pride as BW Archadis and WFC Vertebreak run towards each other, WFC Acid Storm shares an embrace with Ion Storm and Nova Storm, and BBM Soundwave hugs a BBM Howlback who has leaped onto him, head and front legs on his shoulders. Gathered by those last two are BBM Buzzsaw sitting in bird mode, BBM Ravage sitting on back legs with jaws open in a howl, and BBM Frenzy waving back at Bumblebee. End ID.
ID 4 of 4: On the same trans flag and polityscape background as before, a tense situation is depicted with a transformer diorama. On the left side from back to front is Cheetor holding the Allspark & a sword, Legacy Prime Arcee holding the Omega Lock, & the Forge of Solus Prime is seen raised by a barely visible Smokescreen, standing behind the next row of bots: Legacy Bulkhead with his mace & rotary blaster out, FoC Jazz w/ a pistol raised, & Universe Tread Bolt with shoulder cannons up & his blaster over his shoulders. Next up are S86 Rodimus with a pistol and a blast effect lit Matrix, Siege Rung, WFC Airazor, a Mistress of Flame w/ hammer, IDW1 Arcee w/ swords, & CW Pyra Magna with her ax. Last in front are Cyberverse deluxe Grimlock in Trex mode, and TR Windblade holding the T30 Stormfall sword. Opposite the bots are SG Flamewar with a rotary blaster and shield raised, Cyberverse deluxe Dead End, Kingdom Cyclonus, Siege Megs, & Ultra Slipstream with blasters raised, & Motormaster with sword. End ID.
So- First image: IDW1 Arcee did actually have a reformatting surgery of her own volition from Ratchet in MTMTE #27 Dark Cybertron Chapter 10 The Becoming, and she was happy about it, unlike the extra bullshit Jhiaxus tacked on to her surgery from him! Anode helped her out in between those events for a while. Arcees generally, trans or no, care deeply about ethics and compassion of some sort, helping people out and willing to put their all into it. Showing up for the surgery of someone they care about is the kind of thing they'd do. Magnus is there cuz' he arrested her in Spotlight Arcee. Which well, prison wasn't what she (or anyone) needed for what her situation was. Sideswipe was there because even though he didn't understand her much until the end, HE TRUSTED HER ANYWAY, stood by her choices, risked his life for her as she did for him. Chromia is there because of how close she is with Windblade and how Windblade sees things, more on that later.
The second image is because Anode & Lug had been homeless for at least part of the duration of Great War, & Arcee in An Arcee Sort of Day having had trouble getting a housing loan. We chose Nautica to help them because she eventually understood Anode and Lug’s economic reasons for theft after initially taking issue with them.
The 3rd image doesn't have to do with the characters as much as it does things from IDW1 & AVP (although Archadis, Howlback, and Overlord’s gender expansive stories come up in Ask Vector Prime): in the former, the loneliness of trans characters shown, cut off from or having lost community & understanding from people, & eventually finding family. In the latter, working together for euphoria.
The last image is a bit more abstract/cobbled together. The Decepticons in e.g. Cyberverse, sought to meddle with Cybertron's reproductive autonomy: deciding form & role for new gens ('Perfect' Decepticons) with similar assignment for MTOs in IDW1, and forced weaponization (e.g. FoC). The Autobots have also sometimes been guilty of aspects of the latter two, but they more often champion autonomy as a way of life. Remaking/reforging derived from Solus Prime's story is an important metaphor/value for Camiens like Windblade, who respected Arcee when few would. The collective souls of reemerging generations in a cycle of life and death with the AllSpark parallels that reforging view, as shown by the words of Dai Atlas in the Escape miniseries, and the Matrix of Leadership had a direct link to the AllSpark in IDW2 as well.
From all this one can extrapolate that the fate of the AllSpark, the value of recreation of self and the access to capacity to do so have particular connotations both for trans transformers and all bots, just as building reciprocity, trust, wellbeing, and protection from malpractice do. Thus, to us, it's abundantly clear that while Transformers in regards to transformers does not deal with trans issues as a copy of Earth issues [this includes how in IDW1 Cybertronian androcentrism that (trans) gals face is not the same as ours] they speak to timeless aspects of autonomy. It is no accident that a number of trans people have been drawn to these stories over the years. Apart from enjoying them for other reasons, this aspect is there. Even when Transformers media is not talking about trans people, it is often dealing with things that effect us.
And that goes on a less dire level too. Like, the fact characters usually have two or more modes that are very different & related. And body modification is a deep & regular part of these stories, something a lot of people do. And the theme of change and agency itself in stories. This is say: if you either get what's happening in our world where gender expansive folks are in dire straits but we try to make joy and love anyway, just as the trans characters in these stories do, or if you can connect with how transformers is- there is something related.
If this motivates somebody to think carefully about how political engagement choices in how our lives are effected by issues mentioned prior and gets curious about transformer or robot stories that tackle this stuff, then we've achieved something. Thank you for reading :3 <3 ⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️

Note
you're making me want to get into transformers,,, any recommendations for where to start
holy shit ok ok ok i'm so normla about this ask right now
transformers is fantastic. you've got the humour in the comics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the representation is so good as well! there are canon gay couples and a trans lesbian couple too! marriage between two gay transformers is totally normal and it's never the butt of a joke, never made into a huge deal by anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we also have a nonbinary character! acidstorm (cyberverse show) goes between their male and female forms from episode to episode.
"When questioned about this, Cyberverse writer Mae Catt offered an in-universe explanation for the inconsistency, stating that their changing appearance was "just something Acid Storm likes to do," implying the character is genderfluid non-binary. In response to further queries, Catt noted that "pronouns are up to Acid Storm."
Tumblr media
and trans lesbians also:
Tumblr media
the IDW comics talk about mental health and handle it really well:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's a canonically neurodivergent character too. he's blunt, struggles with social cues, carries a set of "shapes" with him to help him adjust to unfamiliar situations. he's a respected and highly successful geologist.
"his mind expresses itself a little differently from others, but sometimes he can see things—patterns—that most of us can't. - windblade
Tumblr media
they touch on abuse and trauma as well, especially when it comes to characters like starscream (tw for a description of physical abuse in the panel below)

anyway to actually ANSWER YOUR QUERY......
i would recommend a show like transformers prime if you’re looking to watch something. it’s very self-explanitory, talks about the war between the autobots and decepticons, and you get backstory on everyone so you don’t have to do a lot of research to Understand what’s going on. it also has some of the best animation in any tf show, as well as plenty of humour, soft moments, SAD moments, and scenes that will make you go WOAGHHGHGHG. it’s a 11/10 in my book. it’s actually probably the highest rated TF show there is if you don’t count G1.
another really really good show is transformers cyberverse. it continues on from tf: robots in disguise (wasn’t as highly rated, it’s not for everyone), which was the sequel to prime. the pros include: each episode is only 10 mins long so its good if you have a short attention span, it focuses on storytelling, and the cel-shaded animation is honestly GODLY. the only issue here would be that you may need to do more Googling to get the premise.
as for the comics, the IDW series is fantastic. the chronological order can look daunting to sort out at first but it’s worth it.
ALTERNATIVELY... you can just do what i did and bounce between shows and comics like a crazy person. i started with transformers animated, then went to the armada anime, and then prime, got into the comics, and then cyberverse. continuity? don’t know her ASBHDFJN
