DPXDC Playlist: Chaotic Spirits
Chaotic Spirits (Danny/Klarion)
Cover Art created by StealingYourBones (me)
Tumblr media
Requested by: No One. I mistook Danny/Kaldur as Danny/Klarion... Whoops. Cold Currents playlist is in the works btw.
Description: DPXDC Playlist. had an Immortal enemies-to-lovers angle making this playlist. Also songs you'd listen to while committing super-villainous acts.
Songs I want to clarify why I added:
Call me Joe by Jukebox the Ghost: If you live for thousands of years that can wear on your mental state. Fae rules you can't say your full name OR Danny doesn't recognize Klarion and Klarion is so happy that he's being treated like a normal person for the first time in millennia. There's a lot of Isolation centric songs on this list and this is one of many.
Love me Dead by Ludo: Ok this song's lyrics are about a toxic as hell relationship BUT this song very much so has the vibes of "Villains fight together in sync being evil and very much so in love"
How Bad Can I Be? by Ed Helms & The Lorax Singers: I... I have no way to defend myself for this one. The feeling of pure horror and the dreaded realization that I felt when I realized that this song fit is something I'll never forget. What's more Chaos Evil Incarnate than capitalism?
I've Got No Strings by The Andrews Sisters: Klarion is a Lord of Chaos. He has no morals or restrictions. He has no tethers to humanity to care for them.
Turn Around by They Might Be Giants: Klarion POV. Dude is trying to kill/frighten Danny but Danny just isn't having it.
I Hold Your Hand in Mine by Tom Lehrer: Look at me in the eyes and tell me that these two wouldn't do this infront of some Supers to scare the shit out of them.
Ring of Fire by Jonny Cash: Partly because I really wanted to add The Man Comes Around by Jonny Cash but it doesn't fit right, partly because Klarion uses lots of fire type magic.

Making music playlists for writing
Many writers such as Chloe Gong, author of "These Violent Delights", have made music playlists for their books. These music playlists can help writers in writing. They could also express what the story is about through the music by showing the overall feel, vibes etc. Character songs can also be included in the playlist for, let's say, the readers to listen to when reading the book. In this post, I will be breaking down why people make music playlists for writing and how to make one yourself!
Why do people make writing playlists?
Just as I said above, writing playlists can help writers to write their current WIP. There are writers who may not be able to write properly and only have creativity rushing through their veins when listening to music. Others may want to make a playlist simply because they want to make their writing more fun and lively.
How do I make a writing playlist? What songs do I include?
Include songs that give the look or feel of the book. Let's say, if you write a fantasy book, then you can include epic songs and songs that give a feeling of magic.
If you want, include songs that represent your characters. For example, if you want to put a villainous character who wishes to redeem themselves, give "I'll be Good" by Jaymes Young.
Do it according to your own style! Some prefer to spend a lot of time planning what songs to add and can spend hours planning whereas others prefer to do it according to their own pace and prefer to just find songs that happen to remind them of their WIP to their playlist. Just do you!
Don't add every song you like. While I understand that it can be tempting, add songs that fit your WIP/character(s). If it doesn't suit your WIP, don't add it.
In case you don't want to make a music playlist but instead want to listen to some, there are quite a lot on Youtube! The "pov" playlists are also wonderful sources of inspiration so check those out if you're interested. Personally, I really like the playlists of Abbie Emmons on Youtube, so if you want to listen to those, please go ahead!

@afreakingdork Sooo here is my Weak Spot playlist; Donnie focused instrumentals, a lot of his POV to reader, some Reader to Donnie. So far one Donnie to Leo

I was good but then I quit
Everyone that tried to fix me
Knows that I can't change a bit
I've got no shame, got no pride
Only skeletons to hide
And if you try to talk to someone
Well then someone has to die
Once you chase me down the hole
Yeah once you think you're in control
You'll believe that we are partners
And you'll feel uncomfortable
Oh then the darkness rolls in
And you'll forget who I have been
But you'll love, love, love it, this is love"
11. 10 Simple Murders - The Future Kings of Nowhere
A Villain song for Donnie
"By this time I had become accustomed to the kill

How i can find inspiration for my ff? (i mostly use music, but i cant find any that makes me feel like, in the mood)
I find that searching for a specific vibe can help me out. Let's say I want to write the introduction of a princely character. I'd type "fantasy prince music" into YouTube.
Well, I actually did this, and it wasn't a "perfect" solution, since most princely music has romantic vibes too. This resulted in some accidental gay subtext between my protagonist and villain, but honestly? It was an unexpected but welcome addition! Sometimes music might not be exactly what you had in mind but still add something interesting to your fic.
I find that those POV playlists on YouTube can be really helpful for finding new music that fits the vibe of my fic. Things like 'You're dancing with your enemy at the masquerade' or 'You just sacrificed yourself to save the world' are examples of trope-based playlists. Even though I'm not one for self-insert stories, it's pretty easy to project my characters onto the available songs.
Another approach is to think of a popular character kinda similar to whichever character you're writing about, and then searching "[character] playlist". Skip through each song to see if anything works out for you, and then search up and download the song from the music service of your choice.
One thing to remember though is that it's quite rare to find music that will do the work of putting you in the mood to write. It can certainly help, but you might still need to do the hard part of writing a hundred words even when you don't feel like it, just to get the momentum going. Having an accountability partner or setting writing goals on the NaNoWriMo website could help you there.
Hope this helps!

100 Days of WIP
I've been bursting to talk about my main WIP, but didn't really know where to start. It's always easiest to start talking about something when someone asks you questions about it, but how will anybody know what to ask when they don't even know the first thing about what you're writing? I thought of running an ask game, but none of the ones I found really hit the mark I was going for. So I decided to go ahead and make one of my own. My goal is to answer one of these questions per day.
Please feel free to do this yourself if you like, modifying it as desired. I'm doing this with one big fanfic WIP, but you could also do it with multiple WIPs in mind, or alter it for original fiction. Turn it into an ask game, take out questions you don't like, add your own - whatever you want! The point is just to get you started talking about the projects you're excited about, and get other people interested too.
What is your WIP's title?
What fandom is your WIP for?
What is your WIP's primary genre?
What is your WIP's premise?
What is the first line of your WIP?
Is your WIP something anyone can just pick up and immediately understand, or will they need more context first?
How long do you expect your WIP to be in its final form? How many words/chapters?
Share a random tag (or make one up).
Do you have a summary for your WIP? Share it or make one up on the spot!
Share an example of dialogue that you're proud of.
Who is/are the main character(s) of your WIP?
What is/are the central relationship(s) in your WIP?
Are there any OCs among the main cast of your WIP? Introduce one!
What is a background relationship that could probably be an interesting story all on its own?
Share an example of a description that you're proud of.
What character is easiest to write in this story?
What character is hardest to write in this story?
What OC (or characterization of canon character) are you proudest of?
Whose characterization do you think still needs some work?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that is funny out of context.
Who/What is the villain or antagonist in your WIP?
What is the level of action in your WIP? Will there be lots of fighting and adventure, or does it involve a quieter sort of drama?
Does your WIP have multiple POVs, or just stick to one?
If your WIP has multiple POVs, are there any that you're intentionally avoiding? If your WIP only has one POV, how did you pick your viewpoint?
Share an angsty excerpt from your WIP.
If you had to pick a different main character for this story, who would it be?
If you had to pick a different relationship to be the main focus of this story, which would it be?
If you had to change your WIP's title, what would the new title be?
Change your WIP's genre and describe the differences in how you would tell the story.
Share a fluffy excerpt from your WIP.
Do you have an outline for your WIP, or are you making it up as you go?
Do you write your WIP from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Do you have a regular time each day/week to work on your WIP, or do you work on it whenever you feel like it or find time for it?
How do you motivate yourself to work on this WIP when you don't feel like it?
Spoil something inconsequential from your WIP.
What was your original inspiration for this WIP? When was that?
Do you listen to music while you work? Describe what your playlist(s) look like.
What is the weirdest/coolest thing you've had to research for this WIP?
What is the dumbest or most obvious thing you've had to look up from canon (or your own previous writing)?
Pick a random page of your WIP and share an excerpt from it.
What scene are you proudest of that you've written so far?
What's the scene you've written that still needs the most work?
What scene are you most looking forward to writing?
What scene are you least looking forward to writing?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that makes it sound like a completely different genre.
What has been the scene you daydream about the most?
Do you edit as you go, or will you wait to edit until the whole thing is written?
Do you like to write the entire story before you post, or post as you write?
Do you use beta readers? If so, give them a shout-out!
Share the most recent paragraph you've written in your WIP.
What do you wish you could change about your WIP, but now it's too late?
If you could go back in time to when you first had the idea for this WIP, what would you tell yourself?
What work of yours (or someone else) does this WIP most resemble?
If - heaven forbid! - you lost all but one scene of your WIP, which one would you want it to be?
Share a "before and after" comparison of an excerpt of your WIP that you've edited.
If you had to end your WIP earlier than where you're planning to, where would it be?
Does your WIP have something for everyone, or does it appeal to a narrower group of readers?
Are you working on this WIP because it's a case of "no one else is writing this, so I guess I have to," or are you writing it despite how common the idea is?
If someone else wrote this WIP, and you saw it, do you think you would give it a try?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that involves food.
Explain your WIP's plot badly.
Give your WIP a clickbait-y title/summary.
Grab the nearest book and rewrite your WIP's summary in the same style as the blurb on the back/dust jacket.
If your summary could only consist of a single quote from your WIP, what would it be? If that's already what you're doing, pick a different one.
Pick up the nearest book, flip to a random page, and pick a random word on the page. Post a paragraph from your WIP that includes that word.
Make a meme for your WIP.
Make a meme for the process of working on your WIP.
Write a made-up review/comment on your fic (for the purpose of leaving tantalizing hints about what's in store for your readers).
Imagine your WIP becomes known as a prime example of a certain trope in the future. What trope would that be?
Write the first paragraph of your WIP from memory.
What scene or moment would you want to see turned into fanart?
If someone made a music video based on your WIP, what song would you want them to use?
What character in your WIP would you be most flattered to be compared to?
What character in your WIP would you be least flattered to be compared to?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that makes you smile.
Make a moodboard for a favorite OC/character.
Make a moodboard for a favorite scene.
Make AI-generated art using your WIP's title as a prompt and share it here. Does it have any relevance to your WIP?
Run your summary through several different languages in Google Translate, translate it back into English, and see how different it is.
Share an excerpt of your WIP that made you cry (or that you think will make your readers cry).
If your WIP was made into a live-action movie/show, who would your dream cast be? If it's already live-action, who would you pick to read your WIP as an audiobook?
If you were an extra in a movie of your WIP, what scene would you want to be in?
Who would you get to do the book soundtrack of your WIP? (Can't be the composer for the canon material.)
Link an instrumental piece that evokes the feeling of a scene in your WIP.
Share an excerpt of your WIP that involves singing or music (or that would have a swell in the background music if there was a soundtrack).
What flower(s) would you use to represent your WIP?
What season does your WIP take place in? If it spans multiple seasons, which do you think of most often when you think of your WIP?
What is an OC's/canon character's favorite color? Does this ever come up in your WIP?
If you had to pick a cover for your WIP that was just one solid color, what color would it be?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that includes your favorite color.
What has this WIP taught you so far?
What is one piece of writing advice that has been useful while working on this WIP?
What is a piece of writing advice you hope to implement in the future of this WIP?
Has working on this WIP changed your life in any way, besides improving your writing?
Share an excerpt of your WIP that you honestly think is beautiful.
What is the main theme of your WIP?
Give an example of a scene that demonstrates the story's theme.
Is there anything you're afraid your readers will misunderstand about your WIP?
What is one important thing you hope your readers will take away from reading your WIP?
What is the last line of your WIP?

Witness: Livia_LeRynn
Creator name (AO3): Livia_LeRynn
Creator name (Tumblr): Livia-LeRynn
Link to creator works: https://archiveofourown.org/users/Livia_LeRynn/works
Creator name (other platform- please specify): I am also So-Shiny-So-Chrome on Tumblr.  Witness me interviewing myself.
Q: Why the Mad Max Fandom?
A: The Mad Max franchise has a few of my favourite things (I should write this song...) like: deserts, obsessively detailed world building, post-apocalyptic setting, women being gritty, weird religions, and characters that hit the right combination of badass and broken.  You have all this angst in the characters, but then there's this great sense of fun with how extra everything is.  I'm a real sucker for deep social and philosophical concepts hidden behind explosions and cool fight scenes.  Fury Road also came out at just the right time for me.  I was just really ripe for so many of the themes and aesthetic components.
Q: What do you think are some defining aspects of your work? Do you have a style? Recurrent themes?
A: Stylistically, I like to change things up.  I kind of oscillate between long, descriptive sentences and almost obnoxiously pithy ones.  I break rules, start sentences with 'but' and 'and;' I use commas like breath marks, especially in dialogue to give it the rhythm I hear in my head.  I also world build to an obsessive extent.
A frequent one for me is being female in the wasteland: relationships between women; portrayals of women finding themselves and their strengths; and the trade-offs women make to keep themselves safe.  I also work a lot with religion in the wastes.  Most fic have their own themes that come from the characters and their emotional struggles.  For example, “Stranded” is about Furiosa being stuck between her past and future selves.  “Blood and Breath” deals with a lot of different themes, but one of the more prominent ones the struggles that come with being in an unexpected and sometimes undesired position of power; it’s another theme that pops up rather frequently.
Q: Which of your works was the most fun to create? The most difficult? Which is your most popular? Most successful? Your favourite overall?
A: I really enjoyed writing “Stranded.”  It was just so different from anything I'd written for the fandom before.  For me personally, it's still a good read.
The most difficult was “7000 Days,” both because I was new at fanfic in general but also because both parts I and II are really raw, dark, and personal. I needed to take breaks while I was writing it and shift gears to something lighter.  It also doesn't get much reader attention, probably because it is so heavy, and that always makes writing harder for me.  This one just felt like I was shouting into the void for a lot of it.
Currently "Daughters of the New World" is a struggle for me.  The premise is a bit out there, what with Wonder Woman coming to town and being romantically attached to K.T. Concannon.  Diana is a difficult character for me because she is complex but seems simple, and the whole thing is from the perspective of Furiosa who just doesn't get her. I worry that I've bit off more than I can chew because I want to explore some heavy stuff.
My most popular overall is “Blood and Breath,” which I kind of get because it scratches a lot of different itches.  “Little Mate is my most popular short, which surprises me because it definitely is not in my comfort zone.  It's cute; it's fluffy.  It's just not something I would seek out to read.
My most successful might be “Crux.”  Being a remix, I had set parameters to follow, which I find creatively useful.  The author of the original was also quite please with it, so: success!
I think the fic I have written that most closely aligns with my personal tastes right now is “Wasteland Jukebox.”  It probably helps that it is also my most recent.  It bounces from angsty to fun to bittersweet to campy and back again multiple times over, all the while showing really intimate character portrates.
Q: How do you like your wasteland? Gritty? Hopeful? Campy? Soft? Why?
A: All of the above.  I like my wasteland realistic where everything hurts, but some things are still funny, and big wins are possible, but they come at a cost.  Even when I'm filling my wasteland with ghosts and vampires, I still want it to feel very grounded in reality and populated with realistically complex people.   This especially applies to medical stuff; if I'm going to write about something I want to portray it accurately and realistically within the context of the story.   All the injuries, diseases, and treatments are based off of real things.
Q: Walk us through your creative process from idea to finished product. What's your prefered environment for creating? How do you get through rough patches?
A: It depends.  Sometimes I can just crank something out.  These are typically shorter, more atmospheric pieces.  More often I have one or more specific scenes, and the rest of the fic grows off of them.  Like for “Daughters of the New World,” it's Diana riding on top of a bonnet/hood while Furiosa is trying to shoot out the window, and they keep getting in each other's way.  None of my longer fic is written in chronological order.  For “Blood and Breath,” I have scenes that I first drafted probably two years ago, but I still haven't gotten to them in fic.  Most of my first drafts are dialogue.  Then on second pass I add or replace those words with body language.
Getting to the finished product is the hardest part for me, especially when I already have all the major parts of the puzzle figured out, and I just have to polish them up. I also tend to have that writers' curse where I think of what to write when I can't possibly write it, like in the shower or a work meeting.  I'm also very much the type of writer where I live off of interaction with my readers.  I love it when people question the choices I make in my fics. I don't really have a preferred environment for writing, but I know I can't do it if there's the slightest chance anyone near me might be reading over my shoulder.  I just get paranoid.  If I'm on an airplane, I have to wait for my neighbors to fall asleep.
Q: What (if any) music do you listen to for help getting those creative juices flowing?
A: Lots. Too many to list.  I make playlists for each of my major projects.  I listen to them mostly when I'm not writing so the stories stay in the back of my mind.  They're all public on Spotify so just ask if you want a link.
Q: What is your biggest challenge as a creator?
A: Finishing my long projects, especially when there isn't much reader response.  I can lose interest quickly, but I want to be reliable; if I know someone is looking forward to updates on my fic, I will keep writing for that one person.
Q: How have you grown as a creator through your participation in the Mad Max Fandom? How has your work changed? Have you learned anything about yourself?
A: I think I've found a writing voice for myself.  My early work tends to have a lot more of a throw shit against a wall and see what sticks approach.  In my working with Furiosa especially I've definitely found some of myself in her.  For example, a few interviews about Fury Road have stated that Furiosa avoids learning names to protect herself from emotional pain when people move on, die, betray her, she betray them, etc.  I realised that I do that do.  Of course, my situations aren't quite as extreme. :)
Q: Which character do you relate to the most, and how does that affect your approach to that character? Is someone else your favourite to portray? How has your understanding of these characters grown through portraying them?
A: Right now I relate most to Furiosa, and that answer shouldn't surprise anyone, but initially I felt more like Toast.  I thought Furiosa was really cool, but I didn't feel worthy to compare myself to her.  It took me a few months to go - fuck it, I want to be her for Halloween.  Of course, that wasn't enough.  I wanted her backstory.  I wanted to spend more time in the costume, and make the costume better.  I choreographed a dance about her so I could wear the costume more, but I really needed to get to know her as a person to really feel comfortable taking on her persona, not to mention I needed make the dance make sense in character (”She Used to Dance” is that fic.)  The more I got to know her, the more I took apart all her insecurities and neroses, the more I found her in me and myself in her.
I relate to her being a woman caught in the middle of a  lot of things: being both young and old, hero and villain, masculine and feminine, strong and weak... The list goes on.  I relate to how she has spent most of her adult life in a predominantly male environment, and how that manifests as difficulty relating to other women like in the, "Everything hurts," exchange with Angharad.
My favourite character to portray is whomever I'm currently writing once I find their voice.  I enjoy the process of getting to know these people.  Dag's POV is especially refreshing to write after working with characters who are super guarded like Max and Furiosa. I can just ramble and take weird turns in the narration.  I need to write more of her.   Capable is the hardest for me of the franchise ones I've tried.
Q: Do you ever self-insert, even accidentally?
A: I'm full aware of it.  There is a bit in 7000 Days Part II where it's mentioned in memory that a the Vuvalini get ahold of some vaccines from Melbourne, which in my chronology falls significantly later than other cities.  Furiosa is a little kid, and she is so determined to not get the shot that a couple of adults have to hold her down.  This was me.  This is literally a story from my childhood.  Mostly little things like that.  There's also the bit about Furiosa reading "Dune;" I fucking love "Dune," and her being trapped in the Vault while she's reading it, how can she not imagine a giant worm coming out of the sand and eating the whole damn place?   On a larger scale, I use fic to explore themes and issues that are going through my head.
Q: Do you have any favourite relationships to portray? What interests you about them?
A: Well, we've already established that I have a bit of a crush on Furiosa.  I ship her with Max in my main continuity and with Valkyrie and Angharad in a couple of side projects.  I'm interested in Furiosa with Max because of how they relate to each other.  Yes, they are both terribly fucked up people, and who knows if the relationship would actually work, but that tension is a big part of the interest for me.  It took me about six months in the fandom to open up to the possibility of there ever being any kind of romantic or sexual relationship between them, and in my chronology that's about the amount of time it takes for them to move from one time plautonic snuggle buddies to romantic/sexual partners. I do most of my writing in that time frame. The fact that they massively respect each other definitely is something that shouldn't be squandered, and I think they recognise that. I don't headcanon either of them as asexual (though my Furiosa is demi), and I think that the best shot they have for a happy partnership is with each other.  They are both fundamentally good people who don't think they are worthy of kindness, let alone an actual relationship, but they both look at the other and see all the wonderful things about that person.  I'm interested in how they navigate this dynamic and how they eventually come to the decision that even if it does end badly, which it probably will, it's worth trying.  Everything hurts, right? Easy relationships are boring anyway.
Q: How does your work for the fandom change how you look at the source material?
A: Sometimes I watch with specific details in mind, like to see the details of a prop or costume piece.  Other times I'll watch something and see a detail I forgot but suddenly becomes an inspiration for a fic.  For example, the Crazy Diamond chapter in “Wasteland Jukebox” came from me rewatching the first movie and seeing Jessie with her saxophone.
Q: Do you prefer to create in one defined chronology or do your works stand alone? Why or why not?
A: Most of my stories are in the same chronology.  Setting change AUs and “Crux” are the exceptions.  Part of the fun for me is keeping tracker of the chronology.  I don't expect my readers to work that hard though; every story stands on it's own.
Q: To break or not to break canon? Why?
A: I do not break canon; I bend it to my will.  Setting changes are an exception of course. I just work better within the structure that canon provides. If I change canon, I change one thing and only allow other changes that are a result of that first change.  I develop and justify my interpretations of canon so that I find enough wiggle room for my headcanons to comfortably coexist with it.  Where canon contradicts itself, e.g. video game vs. comics, I chose my preferred version.  I even take little blurbs from interviews and try to work them in as lore.
Q: Share some headcanons.
A: Pretty much all my fic are based around headcanons.  There are many,  many of them.  Some are the premises for fic while others are big reveals.  Others are back story or missed scenes or just what was going on in someone's head. Here's one that's not a spoiler and doesn't make too many fic appearances:very Rockatanskyup name.  Max's original last name was Patansky, and Jessie's was Rockwell.   They're parents were millennials; of course they were raised to value gender equality :)
Q: If you work with OCs walk us through your process for creating them. Who are some of your favourites?
A: I rarely work with real OCs for anything other than side characters, but I often use characters who have little (Miss Giddy) to no screen time (K.T., Mary) or no canon name (Promise the Milker).  They effectively become like OCs.  K.T. had the most of a design process because all I had to go on were her name and Vuvalini affiliation.  I made her black to bring more racial diversity to my 7000 Days cast, and I made her American because I wanted to have an instory explanation of Furiosa's accent not being Australian. Warboy Kai exists because I felt Furiosa needed an ally among the War Boys cuz fuck if the Imperator pumps her own gas. He will eventually become the History Man we see in the comics so he's still not a true OC. My true OCs follow the same process: 1) identify a logical gap or role that needs filling, 2) establish the character using canon reference points, 3) fill in the character's appearance, personality, etc. not already established by 1) or 2).
Q: If you create original works, how do those compare to your fan works?
A: I'm not doing originals at the moment, but when I look back now at what I was doing pre-Fury Road, I realise just how fannish it all is.  We're talking many thousands of words of world building, character development, angst, and pining.  So yeah, not much different.
Q: Who are some works by other creators inside and outside of the fandom that have influenced your work?
A: I learned a lot about working with themes in different sub plots from "Wishbone."  Seriously, if you've never seen that shit go check it out.  A cute doggo dresses up and tells stories from classic literature while his human learns similar lessons in the "real world."
I consciously avoided other fic when I first started writing because I didn't want to accidentally injest headcanons and not be able to remember where I got them.  Once I found the story I wanted to tell, I dove into the wealth the fandom had to offer.  I owe @sacrificethemtothesquid for paving  the way in making these characters as gross and gritty in fic as real humans.  I owe @lurkinghistoric and @fuckyeahisawthat for warming me up to Maxiosa first through their less and then through their more explicit fic.  And of course @youkaiyume for drawing the art that inspired many of those fic.  Really the whole of the Smuttyartfic group got me writing smut again after a good decade away from it.
Q: What advice can you give someone who is struggling to make their own works more interesting, compelling, cohesive, etc.?
A: I'm gonna go with the good ole, "Write what you know; so know interesting things."  Show off your passion and the depth of your knowledge.
Q: Have you visited or do you plan to visit Australia, Wasteland Weekend, or other Mad Max place?
A: Yes to all of the above.  I really like deserts and tend to pick them for my vacation spots.   I stopped in Sydney on my way to New Zealand a few years back, but I didn't get to go outback; crossing the Nullibor is in my to-do list.  If anyone plans a fandom-cation count me in. I've been to Wasteland Weekend twice and intend to be back, but probably not this year because this summer I will be going on a camping safari through Namibia.  Don't worry, there will be pictures.  And yes, I will be asking our guide obnoxious questions.
Q: Tell us about a current WIP or planned projectThis is my year of finishing projects.  I'm also signed up for Fandom Trumps Hate.  Bid on my listing and you can choose my next project.
Thank you @livia-lerynn

11-11-11
rules- answer 11 questions, ask 11 questions, tag 11 people
I was tagged by @capricious-writes thank u so much !! n i’m sorry it took me so long to get to,,
1. What’s you favorite OC?
My favourite oc rn is Glory because i love writing complex characters. she’s quite closed off, and it’s fun figuring out ways for my mc, Harper, to find out more about her. she’s also got a major role, so scattering in foreshadowing about her ~~darkside is fun
2. What’s your favorite POV?
I prefer to write in third person limited. i used to write entirely first person but in 2017 (i think) i had a revelation. my writing sounds less childish in 3rd imo.
3. What’s one food that just doesn’t exist in your wip. You’re a petty god - what’s that one ‘delicacy’ that you erased from all history, and that will never ever be mentioned in your story? Why?
oof definetly stuff like caviar, that’s way too expensive for what it is lmaooo. in my current wip, they tend to discuss things over breakfast and i do not know why, so currently it reads as if other meals just Don’t Exist- especially since Harper eats a lot of toast and waffles. for her, if it can’t be toasted it’s pointless
4. Is there a type of setting you tend to write stories in?
I write a lot of rural settings, just bc they’re what i know best. i’ve been mentally working on a story set in a very urban area though, so hopefully that should help me push myself
5. What was the last show you finished?
shakespeare and hathaway! it’s a daytime tv show on the bbc about private investigators, and it’s surprisingly fun
6. If you had to completely change the medium of your wip what would it be and why and/or what would change?
i’d write a script bc my wip would probs be a fun movie !! plus i over-use dialogue
7. What’s your ideal villain?
one thats hot  deffo a more sympathetic villain, with points that actually make sense in-universe. imo, a villain should make both the hero and the reader question the universe and add a kinda moral-greyness to the hole thing- like luke in the percy jackson series (as in his actions were wrong but his motivation was 100% justified and bc of that, percy brought about change in the neglect the gods show their children)
8. What’s one recent aspect of writing you’ve been trying to implement/improve?
i’ve been experimenting with a more poetic style lately bc i hate how straightforward my wip is, I think it reads quite dully. i’ve also been trying to use less dialogue tags, bc they slow the whole pacing.
9. If your MC had sudden access to a time travel wrist watch (fixed points time travel), what would they do with it? Alternatively, if you have time travel already, could your story exist without it, and how?
Harper would definetly use it to go and see all the emo concerts she missed bc her dad insisted she was too young !! she’d take the squad (minus riro bc she hates loud noise) and her and Jimin and Arthur would be going mental while glory tried to pretend she wasn’t enjoying herself. if she had to do something serious though, Harper would head to 1920s America, so she can experience the golden age outside of the Great Gatsby
10. What’s one joke, or funny trope that gets you every time?
that trope when a character is caught and they just keep pulling weapons from more and more places, i love it
11. If you could say one sentence of dialogue, as yourself, in your current wip, what, where or to whom would it be, and why?
I’d tell Glory to be honest with herself, and to stop trying to justify her actions to herself. though she probably wouldn’t listen
11 questions
1) What is your main source of writing inspiration?
2) Do you tend to root for the villains or the heroes more in stories?
3) If you could be transported to any of your WIPs, which would it be and why?
4) Classics or post-modern?
5) What’s your longest WIP to date?
6) Are there any books you wished you wrote? Is it just for the idea, or do you just wish the book was yours because you love it so much?
7) What’s one genre you’d love to experiment more in?
8) Do you create characters or plots first?
9) What’s the one method of procrastination you can usually argue still counts as working on your WIP? (eg making playlists, character edits, scrolling through writing advice blogs on tumblr ect)
10) Would you want people to study anything you’ve written, or would you prefer them to be just for entertainment?
11) Is there something you’re so passionate about that you can’t imagine writing an OC that dislikes it?
I tag... whoever wants to do this !!

25 Questions
Thanks for the tag @rain-likes-to-ramble ! It’s the longest tag game I’ve done, so I’ll put it under the cut. Be warned, it gets progressively more sarcastic.
1. Is there a story you’re holding off writing for some reason?
I’ve been wanting to try and rewrite some of my fanfic from when I was 13/14 for a while to make it less cringy and have a direct comparison on how my writing has changed. But the main thing I’m holding off is a novel(la) called The Scramble. It’s in the same universe as my other WIP’s (with some of its events being mentioned in The Indignant including an appearance from Chris) but it can be read standalone. I’ve got the cast and rough plot sorted out but as it was originally fanfiction, it’s taken a while to weed the fandom parts out of it.
Brief summary: Sigurd Losnedahl, being the backstabber he is, decided to get involved with the Norikan Civil War despite insisting to his two sons he wouldn’t. Now Eirik and Halldór are stuck in the epicentre of the battle and since neutrality is even more dangerous than picking sides, they’re scuppered. After being taken under the wing of enigmatic Taisto Astergaard, Eirik is entangled with the man’s adopted daughter, Christine, and the only way the polar duo will live is through them ending the decade-long war. The only problem is, his father’s so obsessive with his cause that he now will do anything to put a bullet in his head. And Halldór’s disappeared- how convenient.
2. What work of yours, if any, are you embarrassed about existing?
The fanfiction that I mentioned in Q1 that I plan on rewriting.
3. What order do you write in? Front of book to back? Chronological? Favourite scenes first? Something else?
Front to back. I tend to leave exposition and descriptions out of the first draft (unintentionally) so I’ll fill in those when I feel like it.
4. Favourite character I’ve written?
Phineas. He was originally a one-dimensional villain (I created him when I was 9) but he’s now one of the most complex characters in the series with the undoubtedly the most well-developed backstory. He’s also developed a great sense of humour over time, and his relationship with Jonathon (who I haven’t introduced on Tumblr yet but I need to. He’s a close second) is one of my favourite things to write.
5. Character you were most surprised to end up writing?
Vladislav. In my plan, he was only supposed to appear in 2/41 chapters. After his personality change, he quickly became one of the major characters. Originally, he was a vain flirt with an ego out the roof. Now he’s a sensitive but righteous boy training to be a lawyer to persecute his mass murdering uncle. Pretty big development for someone who was only created 7 months ago.
6. Something you would go back and change in your writing but it’s too late/complicated to change now.
I’d have added a District based on somewhere in South Asia and also one based on somewhere in Africa. I’m thinking about adding them at the end (since I’ve already stated in my novel that more Districts will come with time), but it’s too late to add them from the beginning.
7. When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
I love telling people I write but hate the follow-up questions, “Tell me about your book!” *pulls out garbage which doesn’t even reflect what my novel is about*
8. Favourite genre to write.
Speculative Fiction. While making characters is my favourite part of writing, I also love world-building.
9. What, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
I actually play High School Story, Hollywood U and The Sims with my characters inserted. It’s been helpful for one-shots and AU’s more than anything but has given me traits about characters to add to their dimensions for my main works, so it’s win-win.
10. Write in silence or with background music? Alone or with others
Background music and alone. The music has to be a specific genre though.
11. What aspect of your writing do you think has most improved since you started writing?
How I portray emotions. In my older drafts, characters recovered from the deaths of their close friends/relatives in 10 minutes and seemed callous. Now they are all crybabies to compensate.
12. Your weakness as an author?
I rely too much on dialogue and miss out a lot of description.
13. Your strength as an author?
I write a pretty mean villain (pun intended). This man was reading my work over my shoulder since I mostly write on the bus home and the first thing he said after, “Are you okay?” was “I like Rylan even though he’d scare me sh*tless from the looks of things.” I think I should put that as a review on the book’s cover once it’s (hopefully) published. A 70-year-old man I met on the bus does sound like a reputable source.
14. Do you make playlists for your work?
I have a playlist for Cyrus and that’s it which 90% is Eurobeat since he has a needo for speedo. There’s only has one chapter in his POV.
15. Why did you start writing?
I was a cocky six-year-old and thought I could write a better version of a film I’d just watched. It ended up being about two best friends in a milkshake parlour despite the original film being about a castaway girl. The connection still makes more coherent sense than the fact I got the idea for The Mastery from Mario and Sonic at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
16. Are there any characters who haunt you?
Alex in his angsty stage. He would threaten to kill people 25/8 because he found out he was adopted.
17. If you could give your fledgeling author self any advice, what would it be?
Keep writing. If you’re that dedicated to your project that you have to write it straight away, remember you can always edit in the future if it’s not up to your standards. And even people who’ve been writing decades are still improving as writing is wayyyy too subjective to be ‘perfect’ at.
18. Were there any works that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style?
George Orwell’s 1984 has affected my world-building. Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses and Maggie Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls series gave me the idea to write under two characters alternating POV’s.
19. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, etc.?
Charahub and a timeline which I’ve drawn by hand on the back of some unused wallpaper.
20. Do you write in long sit-down sessions or little spurts?
Either 5 words or 5000, no in between. It depends on whether I feel inclined to write or have inspiration.
21. What do you think when you read over your older work?
Cringe at all the unnecessary words and repetition- one sentence in my 2012 draft of The Mastery is literally, ‘Alex got up off his bed, walked out of his bedroom door, walked down the stairs, walked into the living room before standing in the doorway of the dining room’.
22. Are there subjects that make you uncomfortable to write?
Anything to do with extreme physical or sexual assault. Or sex in general since I’ve not written much smut before.
23. Any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
Meeting my biological father at 16 rather than knowing him from birth. Also, one of my characters has impaired vision like me so its easier since I knew all the terminology and experiences without much research.
24. Have you ever become an expert on something you previously knew nothing about, in order to better a scene or a story?
Handguns. I’ve used rifles before (I’ve gone clay pigeon shooting before) but since handguns are illegal where I live, I’ve not seen one in person nor had any idea of their usage or the terminology. Quite a few of my characters own them as a precaution so I had to learn.
25. Copy and paste a few sentences or a short paragraph that you are particularly proud of.
(It’s not short but I freaking love how Chapter 36 of The Mastery panned out. Note this is the chapter 70-year-old man liked)
“Cyrus, Keung. Not the most ideal reunion. How has the family been since I was disowned?”
Keung’s jaw twitched, “I think the reason you kicked out was valid enough. You killed your own grandmother, Rylan.”
Rylan, another one of my many cousins, let out what from his mouth movement looked like was a hearty laugh but sounded like a giggle, “It sounds more impressive than getting disowned for supporting the black sheep in an argument, does it not?”
Keung’s hand had been on his spoon all this time, and he was clenching it to the point his arm shook, “I know grandfather wants nothing to do with either of us Rylan, but that doesn’t mean I want to associate myself with a murderer.”
“You stayed under the Xu thumb for long enough. There are fewer fingers in this room than the number of people Tatsuo has killed. Some are justified, I’ll give him that, but others were falsely accused with no chance at justice.”
He leaned at an angle so that he could stare at me, “It’s good to know that you’re being independent for once in your life, Cyrus. Regardless, it’s a real shame you subsequently allied yourself with another family of murderers.”
“What else could I have done?” I said, “The Ninth District needs allies, and I have genuine friends from Ivanska, Phinea and Willsborg.”
He cooed as he came to lean against my back, “Considering how we’re he half-breed scum of the family, I thought you’d have considered an alliance with me. You’re the only relative of mine I like and who hasn’t seemed to have fallen under Xu indoctrination.”
“Grandmother accepted the fact we didn’t decide to be half-breeds,” I hissed, “Out of everyone you could have killed, why her?”
He lowered his voice to a whisper, “I intended to kill Tatsuo. The fact she drunk the poison I’d slipped into the Mansion was a mistake. I don’t have many regrets but that is one of them.”
He distanced himself, “I have little in common with the man who I once saw as my dear grandfather, but one of the few things I’ll admit is that if we need to, we’ll both use blood to make a point.”

8/19 Chat Recap
Same as the previous recap - I'm mostly keeping the comments intact! Putting the more fun/general stuff above the cut:
SNEAK PEEK of the COLORED tarot cards: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jq1lm3nd64sx9d3/AAC5qUDB6EvTK28tqE1zffExa?dl=0
Playlist: I think we really need an official playlist for this? There's no depression in new zealand, yo ho, come on eileen, istanbul not constantinople...POC crossed with AC Black Flag music...XD Backstreet boys in the 90s! ep. 13 playlist has to be mercedes sosa; argentinian singer who had to go into exile during the dictatorship. I’m Henry the Eight I Am for the Tudor episode, plus Pastime With Good Company someone should make a playlist for all the episodes maybe when we're posting the episodes I'll make a music suggestion post each day :) that way people can suggest songs based on the final version
INTROS:
We should try to split them up semi-evenly, but also depending on who the episode focuses on.
1 – Mick?
2 – [Ray] [proposed]
3 – [Nate] [proposed]
4 – Sara
5 – Jax
6 – Lisa
7 – [Stein] [proposed]
8 – Rip
9 – Mick
10 – Amaya
11 – Jax
12 – Gideon
13 – Len
14 – Sara
15 – Stein
16 – Hosts
17 – [Ray] [proposed]
18 – Amaya
19 – Mick
20 – [Legion] [proposed]
21 – [Legion OR Sara]
22 - Len
Thoughts? There's only one Ray one so far, despite him having several Ray-centric episodes. Not sure what we would switch, though!
General Points:
can O!Len change his clothes? He had a beer from somewhere in ep6 I think, so can he have objects? i think it'd make more sense if he's 'full ghost' so to speak; I think he can't change his clothes or interact with objects until later in the season. As much as I'd love for more dress-up for Len, I think he works best as a ghost
Interesting consistency note: Because Anne gave away the spear piece, her life went to hell. That is a terrifying but wonderful thought. we have something similar with Ching and her history, because she also suffers defeats after her spear piece is gone And technichally the ship in new zealand sinks after they take the piece, too They could have had a chance to change their fates but they lost/gave away the spear pieces and thus couldn't
Stephanie Fisher - we should at the very least give her a shout-out for all her wonderful comments. I vote we give Stephanie some kind of award, not just for the comments, but for ALWAYS catching Damien Darhk's name and correcting it!!!!!
just generally, I really love the snarky Gideon we have. And Jax. I love Jax so much this season. and I even like Stein again! I wasn't a big fan of Ray, but I think we've managed to redeem him as well and Sara is actually the badass captain we wanted her to be
Sara's journey is soooo good. Ray here is isolated, but not so terribly self centered like he was on the show. Like, as the season goes, he goes from being traumatized and lonely, to struggling with his identity, to accepting his identity and...I guess, growing more comfortable with himself and others??
Oh, question: Does Gideon still call Rip Captain Hunter and Sara Ms Lance? Or Mr Hunter and Captain Lance now? I think I went with both of them being called Captain
MaryWisdom might just do a German translation; DaughterOfScotland can help
just checking, we're all having Queen Bee use the amulet for her powers, right? Yes
Episode 9 Turncoat was my favorite canon ep and I feel like it only got better Jax and Amaya were so much better here than canon's "cuddle for warmth pwp" I feel like the rat sequence in ep 9 is actually a really great lead-up to episode 10 btw since we're talking about Ray, I really hope somebody makes one of those little things that fly across your screen with Ray and his rocket boot, and maybe the poor rat too XD
Episode 10 Because ep 10 was /also/ AMAZING that intro sequence was gold from start to finish There was so much world-building, character-building, and humor I really liked the villain sequences too There's some great exchanges there! The interactions were really in character! Oh, and the Amaya sequences with the British? PERFECT I love how Amaya continues to question her own knowledge and keeps evolving it was just such a fun ride honestly I think the lead up to Ray using the cold gun worked too? Oculus!Len giving it the tacit OK was such a balm Len is SO BORED he just wants to see Ray totally fail and laugh and Ray screwing up just worked so well as symbolism for his identity struggles also, I am so sad this isn't actually visual/audio because now I want someone to put together a short clip with the Waverider flying away, then pan down to a ship and you hear the "yo ho" song
Episode 11 I'm a bit bummed we haven't been able to fit in Stein singing, but I'll look over it again and maybe we can find a spot Maybe we could get that into episode 11? I've had there's no depression in new zealand stuck in my head for almost two days now btw episode 11, any more comments, or should we go back to it next week once people have had a chance to look it over? prob the best to look at it again tbh
Episode 12 OH MY GOD 12!!! THE TERROR! it was so good KAKO YOU MADE ME SCREAM literally, my phone rang during the Mick scene and I legit screamed the way you worked in the movie references so organically was genius THE LEN REVEAL WAS PERFECT was the ending scene of 12 okay? the scene with Mick and Sara I liked it a lot that was beautiful I knew I was gonna love this episode the moment it was pitched, but you exceeded all my expectations <3 so well done it's perfect That episode is definitely going to turn heads. It is very different compared to the rest and will stand out! perfect for the mid-season finale Is there a way we can make it a real mid-season finale? aka not post for aday or two afterwards? Well, if we start posting on the 1st and it's 22 episodes, with a month of 30 days... if we started on Sept 4 and posted every day, I think we'd end up with it falling on a weekend Sept 4, posting every day, would make 12 fall on a Friday We could then restart the next Monday
Episode 13 I LOVE THE INTRO I like the "did you learn that in school?" mention. Because the history classes suck yes that is a GREAT cold open the episode was really powerful also, the umbrella scenes were hilarious it really was, the tension followed throughout and was quite perfectly cut through with the UTTERLY FLAWLESS umbrella scenes Also, bitching Legion. This is great, seeing as we want them to implode also: the Len and Gideon scene <3 basically everything was fantastic i know we need to add the rip intro scene, but is there anything else you think we should work on? there were a few suggestions, but those are already in the google doc - overall I think it was an incredible episode, and you guys should be proud - you dealt with a really heavy topic really well Quick question to eisode 13... the Spanish they all got the pill, but we kind of wanted to show the other side of it, like what it sounded like to the woman at the bakery Like the Legends go into the bakery - then we see the woman working inside and it's from HER perspective, and there's spanish dialogue and then it switches to english and we're back to the Legends POV If you wanted it from the woman's POV, maybe start the scene with the woman? as in, she's working inside the register, and then some guys come in and buy stuff and then stay with her a second as they walk out and she's kinda wondering what's up, then shrugs and goes back to work then we jump back to the Legends talking in English she picks up on Mick being distracted by something that's not there i keep craving churros every time I look at this episode I loved how you guys mixed in the light-hearted scenes in with all the heavy stuff yeah it was really well balanced RIP EXITS, PURSUED BY MICK!!!
Episode 14 Sara saves the timeline with a threesome XD nuff said LOVED the bit where Amaya realises that Sara is dancing with the King! So fitting, too, because of my episode following with all the Shakespeare :D I think... I think I didn't actually mentioned an abberation? Just the spear piece rip found there Alternatively Rip is using his Time Master skills to find a piece before it ever causes an abberation That was what I was going for. He finds it, or thinks he did ooh. i like that. but if it is that then i don't think you should mention the witchcraft rumors The rumors that she bewitched Henry had been around for a long time already. Thy say that tht's the reason he left his wife and Rip thinks it's related to the spear piece but it's just generally people being shit can I just say, I really loved all the scenes with Amaya and Jax? seconded My only thing to add is, and I think I mentioned that in the comments, that it would be great if you could fit the Legion in somewhere Yeah, I agree with you. I'll put it in that they arrive late and Len is like "I got this", I think Before I forget: can I suggest Sara to narrate the intro? the last one she did was ep4
Episode 15 basically Kendra's Old West incarnation and the New York Riots incarnaton exist at the same time OW!Kendra doesn't have a name, so she *could* be Josephine from the NYR 8 years prior and that would make that Carter Hannibal  but then her Carter should be named Hannibal, not Shay :( his name could be Hannibal and then he goes by Shay Or he could've changed his name when they moved out west due to being wanted under his old name Just... don't explain it. Leave it for the reader to figure out. And wonder :P (for what it's worth, I thought 15 was delightful and SO GOOD at actually USING history the way a time travel story should) More next week
Episode 19 I could knight Ystina! that would be AWESOME!

First line of a WIP you’re working on. - No matter how many she saw, Siora couldn’t get used to Outer Land bars.
20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on. - “In a shocking plot twist, the rich Kitonian girl used to be a thief,” Linde said, mimicking some sort of announcer.
“Are you just here to add sarcastic commentary?” Siora glared at them.
She seems to glare at them a lot, Dema thought.
“That’s the whole reason I’m following you,” they said, then added, “Don’t give me that look, you know I don’t really care about the war.”
“My question is why is Siora still putting up with you,” Asteria laughed.
“Don’t give me any ideas,” The Beati girl grumbled, a smile playing on her lips.
“Oh yes, don’t encourage her. She might try to hurt me with one of her toothpicks.”
Dema laughed, “Don’t insult a lady’s knives, it’s not wise.”
“What’s a lady?” The Gerum asked, feigning confusion.
“Dema is a lady,” Asteria kissed the girl on the cheek, laughing.
“Doesn’t seem very ladylike to me,” Siora snorted.
“Like you’re one to talk,” Dema shot back.
“If anyone here is a lady, it’s me,” Linde said, sticking their nose in the air.
“You aren’t even a girl!” Asteria shrieked, grinning.
“Fair enough,” They nodded.
