Finding the inn was the easy part. Even if Link didn't tend to stay in the small settlements dotting the country, he at least knew where they were, and after leading Epona out of the forest, Zelda on her back, he made short business of getting to the inn. Actually getting a place to stay inside the inn had been a bit trickier.
Link didn't miss the stares leveled in his direction as he passed through the town and into the inn itself. Opting to leave Zelda on Epona for the moment, he met a rather stoic innkeeper inside who asked questions with his eyebrows alone, the pair of them bouncing above his hazel eyes when first Link asked for a room and then when he clarified that he wanted separate sleeping quarters as well. It took a couple more bounces of his eyebrow and a couple more rupees from Link's purse, but eventually he secured the requested rooms, going back outside to finally bring Zelda in.
Catching the bouncing eyebrows a final time, Link left a small pile of rupees on the counter for an extra bit of quiet and to keep the eyebrows from jumping off the man's face.
Zelda settled in front of the fire, towel found to drape over her shoulders, Link busied himself with stoking the fire, the heat flooding the room not long after. And all that time, critical eyes did not leave Zelda's face. She shivered still, which was a good sign. It was when the shivering stopped that it was time to get worried, but even so, Zelda didn't look good. He had to figure out a way to get her clothes dry, but how? With all the layers and nonsense of the dress, that would take forever.
Tilting his head as Zelda began to sign, he waited patiently for her to complete the thought, nodding as the idea completed itself. That was sound enough. He thought he had an extra tunic in his pack, giving Zelda's hand a reassuring squeeze before he went to check.
Returning a moment later, blue eyes worried, he presented her with the tunic. Pointing at Zelda, his left pointer finger crooked forward before pulling back. His left hand then curled into a fist, thumb sticking out, and settled on his right flat palm, before he lifted both hands into the air. << Do you need help? >>

Oh, Cats (4/10)
pairing: Aizawa x Reader (OC)
genre/warning: 18+
words: 1535
summary: An average girl with a cat quirk starting over in a new city, as typical as usual. Until it’s not. You drop into someone’s life unannounced and not necessarily wanted.
Tumblr media
Walking past the UA gates, you felt invincible. Since your confrontation with Aizawa, you launched into training in the evenings; self-confidence inflating rapidly. This was the first time you had left UA without hiding any of your features. Although you didn’t often go, if at all. Feeling like you don’t need to hide was still a very new sensation. People always looked as you walked by, but fewer than you remember pointed. It’s not often cat feature quirks manifest in this particular way. The heavier cat-like influence was more common, resulting in realistic heads of paws.
Out of all the things you could have missed the most, it was merely sounds of everyday life. People were so happy and oblivious to what heroes had to do to protect them. Without a plan, you wander the streets. Meandering in back alleys, meeting some local cats. Hours passed before you knew it and started to look at going home. Abruptly a bad feeling washed over you as you stood still. Unaware until now, there had been a coordinated effort to try and funnel you to a specific location where you currently were. How could I be so naïve to think this wouldn’t happen? People don’t change. Looking around and surveying the area gave you a brief advantage. You saw something racing towards you on the ground and jumped to the side. As you jumped, you saw it was a tentacle; aware, there must be a second coming soon. It wrapped itself around your ankle and pulled you backward, you tried slashing at it, but it made no difference. Knocked down, you try to break free. Another man emerged from the shadows holding his hands forward in front of himself. Nets eject from his fingertips, ensnaring you further. Finally, the third accomplice appeared, pleased with the finished task.
“Bind her hands, watch she doesn’t scratch you” the three men laughed above you. The tentacle began to move its way up to your legs, searching for something.
“No, stop! Please stop!” you were trying to kick at the tentacle with your free leg, but it only continued to rise. Inching closer and closer to your underwear, snatching at them in attempts to pull them down. There was a swift thick, wet sound. You looked down at the tipoffs, the tentacle still hanging on to your panties, now detached from the arm it belonged to.
“Ahh, what the fuck, man?! That was my fucking arm!” The tentacle man was screaming over his loss.
“It’ll grow back.” Aizawa emerged from the shadows. Unfazed, he practically danced in front of you. Releasing his capture weapon, he sent it around the man's throat with the net finger quirk, then another around the third man. Aizawa crossed his arms over, sending the two men crashing into each other. Having wounded the last man already, Aizawa bound him with the capture weapon. You were still on the ground when he walked up to you, standing up, avoiding his gaze.
T-thank you.” You squeaked. “I was in a little over my head.”
“What the fuck happened” he snapped at you. Until this point, you had never actually seen Aizawa angry. You thought you did but had now been shown how incorrect you were.
“I just wanted some time away from UA, a -and they followed me” your words shook as a response to the ordeal you had just been through.
“If you can’t protect yourself, maybe you shouldn’t be leaving campus. What if a student saw you and decided today they were going to be the hero? What if they were hurt or killed?” Staring at the ground, you bit your tongue in an attempt not to cry.
“Did you even think of that?” He had moved closer. His shouts grew louder and more accusatory in tone. “Did you?!”
“I’m sorry.”
“I don’t give a fuck, how sorry you are.” He paused and collected his thoughts, pinching the bridge of his nose. Stepping back from you as he realized how close he had gotten. “If you can’t take care of yourself off-campus, then maybe you shouldn’t be teaching,” his words stung like the tears in your eyes. You knew he was right, as much as you hated to admit it. You were too weak to keep yourself safe, so why should you have any agency over students. You’re supposed to be protecting them, not the other way around.
“Just go back to campus. I will take these guys in and leave you out of the incident report. Neither you nor the school needs the extra attention right now.” You nodded your head and turned to leave, digging your claws into your fists as you stiffly held them by your sides.
Aizawa watched you leave before returning his attention to the task at hand. He hadn’t realized how furious he was with you at first, and it caught him off guard. It wasn’t logical. But how could you be so careless, had your time at UA really taught you nothing? What if he hadn’t shown up or showed up too late? The thought made him sick to his stomach. There were reasons why he didn’t have close relations with most people in his life. Aizawa always tried to maintain enough distance between the two of you, but it didn’t seem to be making any difference. He still refused to admit to himself how much he cared about you, instead following the safe route and shutting you out.
To get ready for the workweek, you had come up with responses to just about any question someone could ask about the injury’s leftover. Most of the noticeable abrasions you were easily able to hide under clothing. Unfortunately, some around your neck and face were a little trickier. Your colleagues left you alone for the most part, merely asking how you were g. It gave the impression that these sorts of things operate on don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Once the initial discomfort went away, you were left with your classes with Aizawa. You would have just about traded for anything else right now. Neither of you went out of your way to speak to the other, interacting as minimally together as possible. Thankfully it did provide some reprieve. At the end of one of your shared afternoon blocks, you had to turn over some marking you had completed, making eye contact as you place them on his desk. He stared up at you. Tired would be an understatement; he looked exhausted. Eyes redder than usual, and his facial had was longer than you had ever seen him let it go. Ripping your hands away from the paper, your fingers yearned to reach out and touch him, but you turned towards the door and left before your heart could overrule your mind. Despite having walked away from Aizawa, you could see your last conversation with him on replay.
“What if a student saw you and decided today, they were going to be the hero. What if they were hurt or killed?”
“If you can’t take care of yourself off-campus, then maybe you shouldn’t be teaching.”
Could you have had made the wrong decision when taking this job? What were the students even gaining from you being there? Sitting back down at your desk, you start to seriously consider quitting your job. Brows furrowed deep in distress. After turning your computer on, you make quick work to find a resignation template. Writing it made you feel good, like you were in power, that this was your decision to make. Finishing it, you read it over. It kind of felt like you were running away. This wasn’t supposed to be about you. It was for the students. Your feelings for the final decision should take second priority.
Forging on, you sent the document to the printer, waiting for the finished product. Holding it in your hands made it feel much more real, heavier. Sighing, you lean on the nearest desk. Something rustled as you leaned up. Without realizing it, you had sat at Aizawa’s desk. It was full of papers with coffee ring stains and empty jelly drink containers—a reminder of his bad habit you had picked up. You hated cooking, and the supplement drinks weren’t the worst. Aizawa knew what these kids needed better than anyone. And he spoke the truth about your lack of self-reliance and ability being a hindrance to them. It started to feel like your head might burst. You had been thinking about this so hard over the last few days. Is it okay to continue believing that I add value to their education, something because of who I am and cannot be replaced with someone else? With another sigh, you look up at the ceiling, lights screaming at you. But what was really bothering you, what were you avoiding?
Of course, it was Shouta. You wish you could take back how you felt, gather it all together in your arms and pull it back in. Sometimes it bordered on hating how you felt. Giving someone that much power and influence over yourself only ever ended in anguish. Then what do you do? How do you continue to move forwards and push past these obstacles? What is it that I can’t stop myself from falling for? Could it be something I’m searching for and missing in myself?
Your eyes closed as you stood up from the desk. Opening them, you walked back over to your desk and began to open your bag.
“I think there should be…Aha!” you withdrew two jelly pouches. Assessing the flavors, you chose your preference and placing the other on Aizawa’s desk, separate from the empties. The poor guy really did need to talk better care of himself. At least you seem to hold that advantage. Feeling a little more optimistic, realizing that Aizawa was also human. He didn’t have everything covered all the time. You left work for the day reviewing and reanalyzing everything you had just thought about.

Hi I like music and I kind of go wayyy too deep into the TPN soundtrack and I think it's about time I start throwing my thoughts out there before they spiral too much
Disclaimer!!! This is not a complete analysis at all, just a few thoughts on each of the songs. I'll probably revisit some of them in future parts if I ever do those aha anyways enjoy
(Part 1/?): 63194, Emma's Sorrow, Emma's Determination, 22194, Norman's Lament, The Promise Between Humans and Demons, Jailbreak and Isabella's Lullaby.
(manga spoilers)
I've done a lil smth smth on Main Theme 2 already and its my favourite song like ever aha this is a cry for help
here you go people
but now anyways fr
63194 (Season 1)
Wouldn't have started with this one cuz I'm still figuring it out but it was the first one that came up when I pressed shuffle
Let's just go straight to the point so we can move on. The first time we hear 63194 is in episode 2, when Norman is talking to Ray about their plan in the forest (or, as I like to call it, "boat scene"). It reaches its climax when Norman starts talking about how he'll use himself to ensure the escape plan will work.
And then it's only used again in episode 8, if I'm not mistaken, after Isabella tells them about Norman's shipment, thus foreshadowing him refusing to escape and using his "death" as a tool to help the others escape.
But alsooo the song is Emma's theme, so there's definitely some sort of meaning other than foreshadowing Norman's shipment. That's for later though cuz I'll have to think more. The beginning does sound a lot like Strauss' Metamorphosen, a piece symbolising how German culture was destroyed during WW2. Not sure what to do with that info for now.
If you'd like a little extra stuff, I also tried connecting the pieces to the Doctrine of Affections, a... thing some Baroque composers wrote that connected music keys to feelings. (I found many sources but I used this one).
63194 is in C Minor, which is described as "innocently sad" (although another source said "sweet but sad") and "lovesick." I think innocence really describes Emma, Ray, and Norman in general, as kids who never did anything wrong but were thrown into the wrong world. Innocently sad would be their conversations in boat scene. They're talking about life or death, it's not something kids should have to deal with.
But again, it's hopeful. Norman wants to create a boat made out of mud---he wants to save everyone---and he really believes it'll work. So although sad, it's also sweet. It's a light at the end of the tunnel, and also just an act of kindness. As for "lovesick," that would just describe Ray and Emma's inevitable longing for Norman after he was gone. Which brings us to...
Emma's Sorrow (エマの悲しみ) (Season 1)
The two times I remember Emma's Sorrow played was 1) When they first talked to Don and Gilda about the house and 2) During the infirmary flashback scene.
The Doctrine of Affections describes E Minor as "grief and longing." In the infirmary flashback scene that obviously not only shows how Norman longs for that time when they didn't know anything and everything was light and happy but also, once again, foreshadows Emma eventually having to grieve him.
Especially because they don't play the staccato part (short quick notes) that's in the original version. Instead, the strings are always present. In staccato, the music gets pretty,,, lowkey? because the instruments can't exactly "show off," whereas the legato (long/connected notes) really shows the true importance and impact each individual instrument has on the song. Considering how the strings (specifically the violins) in the soundtrack could symbolise Norman, it's showing how Norman is not just another guy who's in their group and planning the escape, but an actual friend they'll lose and who'll leave a significant emptiness behind. Not only brain power wise, but just.. you know he's a human being and it's gonna hurt either way.
Not only that, but the harmonies itself in Emma's Sorrow once the strings really do come in are really incomplete. Like, the piano part seems to be all over the place, but it comes together because of the strings. Norman was the one who brought Emma and Ray together, in a way, and isn't Emma and Ray clashing exactly what Shirai wanted when he sent Norman away? Yea...
And Emma's Sorrow is, of course, parallel to:
Emma's Determination (エマの決定) (Season 1)
Yea no I'm still gathering thoughts on that one. The ascending bass contrasting the descending bass in Emma's Sorrow is pretty cool, though. It plays when Don is going off about how he wants to be strong after punching Ray and Norman and it's in F# Minor, so "passionate resentment." Connect both and Don really is ready to change the world. He got slapped with this very very bad reality and naturally he's angry and he's sad and he wants to do anything in his power to save people.
But back to Norman.
(hi future me here. oh my god why am i only talking about norman this was not the route this was originally going to take im so sorry i swear there's more to this post than just norman brain rot 22194 is the last norman one)
22194 (Season 1) and Norman's Lament (ノーマンの嘆き) (Season 2)
22194 is in B Minor, so "patience" and "walking towards fate." That's pretty self explanatory considering how he, and I quote, "chose death." Yea. G Minor would be "uneasiness of the future," and once again, pretty self explanatory (The whole Lambda seizures thing and I'm The Only One Who Can Save The Humans Syndrome. Normy worries too much :/)
Comparing both is pretty fun, too. It's the same melody but in different keys and instruments and thus just give off different feelings. While 22194 is full of instruments and harmonies and is clearly structured, Norman's Lament is just. Empty. It's like it's trying to stay true to 22194, so the Norman from before, but at the end of every musical sentence it just drifts off. You can see parts of 22194 in there, but it's not the same. At all.
There's also no harmony. He wants to do everything himself, and discards all his bonds and friends for that. So sad. Stop him.
All that while 22194 is rich and beautiful and oh my god i love that song so much and it's just showing how Norman was a lot more lively and layered and human when he allowed people to come into his life (the harmonies) and listened to those people instead of just locking himself up and doing everything himself.
So in conclusion cuz I ramble a lot, 22194 is about GF Norman, who hadn't gone through all those things that turned him "evil," who trusted his friends and believed everything had a good, ethic solution. Norman's Lament is about Lambda/post-Lambda Norman, who had gone through a whole lot, and was now in a downwards spiral and had left everything behind to become God or whatever, but was also in denial that he had changed in the first place.
does this make sense no idea i'm typing this while sleep deprived and high on bread and i failed english this quarter
but that aside
The Promise Between Humans and Demons (人間と鬼の約束)(Season 2)
I love this song!!!!!! So much!!!!!!!!! I love the percussion, it's used so well. And I love the way the song builds up and adds more and more instruments until it eventually reaches a climax, like the growing tension between the humans and the demons during the war that snowballed and snowballed and eventually caused both sides to resort to the Promise.
And when the song comes down you can hear a very short "first draft" ish version of Isabella's Lullaby.
It's as if yes, all this mess went down and the demons and humans made this huge promise that completely changed the world and affected an entire society but then far far away from the Seven Walls and the Promise and oblivious of the Ratri Clan and the demons were these two tiny tiny children just singing a song and living happily. And those children---and that song---were the foundation for the entire revolution that ended with the Promise. Wow.
And it's in D Major, D Major is "Triumphant." The song itself sounds triumphant, and yes the Promise was gross but it was a nice little hello kitty band aid over the mess that was the world before it.
What was truly triumphant, though, was the kids' escape, which happened to the same melodic theme, albeit in a different key. Which leads me to...
Prison Break (脱獄) (Season 1)
Oh my God. I love this song.
It symbolises the kids breaking ties with Isabella and how many obstacles were in the way (not only was she their mom; their only mom who had cared for them for their entire lives, but she was also their enemy and did everything she could to prevent them from escaping). The second the brass comes in with the theme (around 0:53) it sounds like it's struggling to play it fully. In this case, Isabella, once the singing parts, would have lost her voice after being outwitted by the children (keep in mind the song starts playing after they've already reached the wall). After all, the song starts with a voice that seems to get more and more desperate before it's overrun by instruments, thus losing its power.
So she's trying to control them and get them back, but they won't let her. They're going to break free. So you have the melodic theme playing with significant breaks, until eventually it all goes silent. Why? Because they escaped. Isabella completely lost contact with them, they're free. And then you get the same melodic theme in The Promise Between Humans and Demons.
But the theme isn't played full. It's not played to the extent that they play it in TPBDAH, instead there's a lot of just "blank space" with no melody above it: that's where the children will write their melody---their story; a story independent from the Promise that shaped their lives thus far.
AGH.
I need a break but I'll be back
Isabella's Lullaby (イサベラの唄)
OK OK Continuing on Isabella I love how Sarah Alainn sings like she's crying. I really recommend this if you want to go deep on Isabella's Lullaby, they pretty much said everything I had to say. I don't go on youtube like ever and that might as well be one of my favourite videos LOL anyways
I also really recommend listening to the no vocal/piano solo version, the harmonies are so beautiful. And the more you listen to it the more you hear, there's always something new. The violins especially oh I love the way Takahiro Obata uses violins. Honourable mention to Nat King Ballade (ナットキングバラード) and Each Thought (それぞれの想い) (idk if thats the english name for it,,,, i've seen it as "Their Own Thoughts" too)
WELL THEN. What a ride. I'll go to sleep now. If anything is incoherent or u just wanna talk then send me askies or a dm smth idk aha i like music but i hate grammar :P

When Kageyama finally left the Earth Kingdom, he thought reaching the Southern Air Temple would be a blessing. Ba Sing Se was a nightmare of a city, huge and loud and confusing. But even worse than getting lost eight times a day were the crowds; even more so than in the Fire Nation or the North Pole, every goddamn person in Ba Sing Se seemed to recognize him. Ogling him during his morning jogs, packing the training stadium and yammering so loud he could barely hear his teachers. It wasn’t that he necessarily minded an audience— he did some of his best waterbending when Ukai would bring his students to watch him and Akaashi train up north. But a crowd that foamed at the mouth just because he moved one stupid boulder? Idiots. Daichi and Nishinoya could do that in their sleep. It boiled his blood.
Eventually they moved to a village that basically amounted to a pile of boulders with a roof, but he didn’t complain. In fact, much to Daichi’s chagrin and Noya’s delight, the more remote and grueling the training the more Kageyama loved it. Eight hours in the baking sun getting rocks chucked at his head? Paradise. But somehow, even in the middle of nowhere, the crowds and the attention eventually found him again and ruined his concentration. (He and Daichi shared a suspicion that Noya’s, and by extension, Tanaka’s, big mouth was to blame.)
To make matters worse, by the time he decided to move on with his training people were already fawning over him as an “earthbending master.” It finally made him snap one night at dinner, during a brief visit with his sister en route to the Air Temple. Miwa had invited some friends and local big-wigs, including a government minister who clearly cashed in every favor he had for a seat across from the Avatar and seemed determined to not let Kageyama enjoy a single bite in peace.
Kageyama’s blood pressure was already at astronomical levels by the end of appetizers but the final straw came just as dessert was served. The minister was leaning forward with that self-satisfied smile people got, as if they were somehow personally responsible for the Avatar’s success, and said, “Well you certainly mastered earthbending in record time-”
Kageyama felt a blood vessel pop. He stood up suddenly, utensils clattering to the floor. “Will you shut up?” he barked, “How could someone who hasn’t even learned metalbending call themselves a master? What, because I’m the Avatar? I haven’t mastered anything, dumbass!” He threw his napkin down on the table and stalked out of the room with a scowl, leaving his sister to deal with the minister’s thoroughly ruffled feathers.
All of that was easily his least favorite part of being the Avatar. But the Air Temple would be different, Kageyama told himself as he left Miwa’s. There he could just focus on his most favorite part of being the Avatar: learning a new element. A thrill ran up his spine at the thought of tackling a new challenge. Some part of him knew that the smile spreading across his face had something to do with his new bending teacher, but he decided it was best to close his eyes and try to nap rather than let himself dwell on that thought. He slept soundly through the last leg of the journey and dreamed about tranquil morning runs, thin mountain air perfect for training, wizened monks who kept their stupid opinions to themselves...
Kageyama, unfortunately, had forgotten who he was dealing with.
“-Not like that— it’s more like yah and then wooosh! Got it?”
Kageyama clenched his fists to keep himself from wringing the neck that bounced incessantly up and down in front of him. “Hinata, you idiot! A minute ago you said it was like huh! Not yah. Huh. Is it huh or yah?”
The orange-haired airbender stopped his springing to ponder Kageyama’s question seriously, apparently oblivious to the fact that he was one sound effect away from getting smacked off the mountain. They were a couple weeks into training, and things were moving...slowly. It wasn’t that Kageyama was bad at airbending. No, with his natural talent he’d outstripped the other novices within a few days and could keep up with Hinata on his glider most of the time. There was just something that hadn’t clicked. No “aha!” moment, just a long string of “augh!” moments. The current source of Kageyama’s rage was a move that involved throwing a wheel of wind that had a slight curve at the end of its trajectory— so far, no curve.
“Aha!” Hinata exclaimed, his face lighting up. “Maybe it’ll work if you try to be more like hu-yah!” He demonstrated the form again, his movements light but precise, and sure enough his whirlwind shot straight across the courtyard before it veered at the last second. “See? Now you try,” he grinned.
Kageyama stared in awe for a second before he pushed Hinata aside with a scowl. He still remembered Hinata’s words from the last time he visited the Southern Air Temple. They were eating sweet buns in that same courtyard, legs dangling off the ledge that overlooked the valley far below. Hinata had looked at him with eyes shining like the sun and declared: You might be the Avatar, but some day I’ll be the greatest airbender in the world! I’ll keep training hard and beat you, no matter what element you use! Heat crept up Kageyama’s cheeks.
He wouldn’t let Hinata best him. He couldn’t.
Kageyama scoffed and took his stance. He focused his chi, felt the air flowing around him, thought hu-yah and— no curve.
“Dammit!” he growled, fire flaring briefly around his hands.
“Hey, hey, hey! What do we have here?”
The two boys spun around to see a figure with spiky hair hop nimbly down from atop a portico, lazily tossing up an apple and grinning at them expectantly.
Kageyama had no idea who he was but Hinata yelled, “Bokuto, you’re back!” and sprang toward him, snatching the apple out of his hand. Kageyama watched quizzically, trying to remember why the name Bokuto sounded so familiar. The other airbender was quick to react and within seconds the two of them were pinging off each other, flying across the courtyard and around Kageyama. For a few minutes he could barely follow the apple with his eyes, let alone the two figures, but suddenly they were on the ground and Hinata was flailing uselessly against Bokuto’s outstretched palm. The older airbender hooted with laughter before bursting into some sing-song victory chant as Hinata demanded a rematch and ran through his limited vocabulary of insults. Kageyama could feel his blood pressure rising the longer it went on. He looked from Hinata to Bokuto, his curious expression souring.
He felt his eye twitch. "There's two of them?"
Bokuto looked up as if suddenly remembering Kageyama was there and released Hinata, letting him trip over his own force. “So, you’re who my little protege was so excited to train with! You’re the Avatar?”
“Yeah, I am. Oh!” Kageyama started, suddenly remembering where he had heard the name. “You know one of my waterbending masters, Akaashi.”
“Akaashi? You trained with Akaashi?! He never- that little-” Bokuto floundered, red-faced, for a second before he propelled himself toward Kageyama with wide smile. “Wait- did Akaashi talk about me? What’d he say?”
Kageyama cringed and turned his face away. “Well he didn’t mention that you were so...loud.”
For a second Bokuto looked like he was stabbed in the gut. Hinata bounced indignantly behind him, yelling, “Take that back, scrub! Do you know who you’re talking to?”
Bokuto quieted him with a wave of his hand. “I guess I should expect nothing less from Akaashi’s twerp.” He turned to Kageyama with a smirk, “Looks like the wind wheel’s giving you some trouble, huh?” The Avatar nodded sullenly. “Well you’ve definitely got power, but your technique sucks!” Bokuto burst in good-natured laughter, having already forgotten the slight— Hinata, however, earned dagger eyes from Kageyama for snickering. Bokuto flew across the courtyard and called, “I wanna see you in action- come at me with whatever you’ve got!”
Kageyama dropped into a ready stance with an excited smile, his pulse quickening. Hinata had improved a lot since they last saw each other- an amazing amount, really- but this guy was the real deal. Hinata seemed equally excited just to watch as he perched on the low perimeter wall, shouting encouraging words to both of them. Kageyama advanced quickly on Bokuto, sending quick bursts of air with flying kicks that were easily dodged. When he got close enough he planted his feet and punched a powerful gust he hoped would send Bokuto flying— but Bokuto wasn’t there. Instead, he was lifted up by a swirl of air and in the second before he was unceremoniously thrown onto his ass he saw Bokuto grinning from below him.
“Hey, hey, hey! That’s how it’s done, baby!”
Kageyama groaned, dragging a hand down his face. When he opened his eyes Hinata’s stupidly bright smile was blocking his view. “Wow Kageyama, even you barely lasted a minute. Bokuto really is amazing,” he said, helping him up. The fact that he wasn’t even teasing, just genuinely admiring them both, somehow pissed Kageyama off more. He slapped Hinata’s hand away as soon as he was standing.
“Again,” Kageyama demanded.
Bokuto ignored him. “Just as I thought. You airbend like an earthbender,” he said, “You want to tackle challenges head on, but air isn’t a straightforward element. It leaves you wide open.” He abruptly turned on his heel and walked away, calling over his shoulder, “Follow me, little chickies! There’s something I want to show you.”
Kageyama raised a brow at Hinata, but he just shrugged.
“-Ta-da! Airbending gates!” Bokuto spread his arms before the cluster of wooden panels, some of them twirling lazily in the evening breeze. “From what I’ve heard you’re a real control freak, Avatar, but to conquer this you’ve gotta learn to surrender.”
Without further ado Bokuto set the gates spinning with a burst of air and plunged in. The younger boys watched wide-eyed as he wove fluidly through to the other side, exiting with a handspring just to rub it in. They gasped in unison, “So cool!”
After a short scuffle, it was decided that Hinata would go first. He held his own until about halfway through, when a misstep earned him a few new nasty bruises. “Nice one, dumbass,” Kageyama jeered as he stepped up to the gates. He slouched into a defensive position, keeping light on his feet as he entered the field of swinging panels. He kept his eye on the center and swerved one way, then the other, wondering why Bokuto thought he’d have so much trouble—
“Augh!”
For the second time that evening, Kageyama’s back slammed against the ground. “Dammit.” He gingerly touched his arm, red from slamming full speed into a gate. “Again!” he yelled over the airbenders’ laughter.
The scene replayed itself over and over again. Eventually “one more time” was too many times for Bokuto, but Hinata stayed until the sun had nearly disappeared into the valley. Kageyama got close a few times, but with every failure (and every time Hinata succeeded) his frustration mounted.
After getting thrown for the umpteenth time, Kageyama punched into ground with a ragged breath. How could it be so easy for Hinata, but so difficult for him? He needed to clear his head before he really snapped. Wordlessly, he dragged himself up and started walking away. “Where the hell are you going? You said one more time!” Hinata called after him. He just bit his tongue.
Finally, Kageyama found some peace running through firebending forms alone on a grassy knoll. His breathing was under control, his chi was flowing, and every burst of fire felt like an extension of his own body. Firebending was natural to him: airbending was confusing, for a lot of reasons.
One of those reasons caught his eye as he started his cool down. In the rich sunset that painted the southern temple’s sky, Hinata’s hair shined like flames. His eyes, peering cautiously up at Kageyama, caught the light with their brilliant yellow. Kageyama just stared.
When he realized he wouldn’t get his head chewed off Hinata cocked an eyebrow, putting up his hands expectantly. “Well?”
A smile spread over Kageyama’s face. “You’re on, pipsqueak.”
Their first spar was over pretty quick, quick enough that Kageyama almost suspected Hinata of throwing the fight. But when he pinned Hinata to the ground and saw the familiar glint of competition in his eye, he just grinned.
“Again?”
“Duh.”
They had no idea how long ago the lamps had been lit when they finally collapsed in the grass, panting and laughing. Kageyama knew he’d be sore the next day, and not just from those stupid gates. Hinata had gotten good. Like, really good. He knew from their letters that he trained like crazy, they both did. But something was different about him. Sure, he was still an excitable idiot and a huge pain in the ass, but there was an edge to him now that wasn’t there before. Maybe a base to his baseless confidence? Kageyama glanced over, watching Hinata watch the sky. It wasn’t just that, though— he couldn’t help noticing that the change was physical, too. “Pipsqueak” didn’t quite fit the toned, lithe airbender who was stretched out beside him anymore. Heat started to bud in his cheeks. Hinata looked over at him and he quickly looked up at the stars. “Thirty-seven to twenty-five. You’re never gonna catch up,” he said.
Hinata propped himself up on one elbow and clenched his fist. “Just wait, Kageyama! I’m gonna learn some crazy moves from Bokuto and beat you so bad it’ll count for a hundred wins!”
Kageyama snorted. He had some acid retort ready but it died on his lips when he looked over. What else could he do when Hinata was so close, looking at him with those shining eyes and that stupid sincere smile? He just rolled his eyes. “In your dreams.”
Apparently satisfied by that, Hinata scrambled up the slope and plopped back down with paper package of rice balls. For a moment the night was quiet while the boys eagerly stuffed their faces, but the calm was soon broken as their conversation turned to Bokuto and his near-mastery of airbending.
Yeah, Kageyama thought as he munched happily on sticky rice and watched Hinata try to mimic the hwa-woosh of Bokuto’s moves, this is way better than the Earth Kingdom.

“How would the DR2 react to their s/o finding a two person bike and suggest to ride it around the island?”
Hajime Hinata:
You were walking along the beach with Hajime, fingers intertwined as you lovingly looked up to your boyfriend. The sunset complimented his smile, as your hands slowly swayed with one another.
You look over to the path, and you see a two-person bike.
“Hajime, look.” You hush, pointing over at the vehicle. “We should go on it!”
The boy looks over to the bike, before pulling you over to the bike.
Chiaki Nanami:
Chiaki was sleeping in her room, exhausted from the day you spent with each other.
You, being the more adventurous one, explored the island in more depth.
Eventually, you make a discovery. A date idea.
More specifically, this idea was riding a two-person bike with your girlfriend. You would take the front seat, letting Chiaki cycle without the responsibility of steering the bike.
You run over to Chiaki’s house, knocking on the door before running in to tell Chiaki about your discovery. You look over to her bed, and she’s rubbing her eyes as she slowly got up from her hibernation.
“Chiaki, can we cycle with each other tomorrow?” You beamed at her. “I found a bike that has two seats on it!”
“Ah, that sounds fun…I think…” Chiaki lets out with a light blush illuminating her face, before falling asleep again.
Nagito Komaeda:
Nagito likely was the person to spy it.
He really REALLY wanted to go on the bike, but he didn’t want to force you, nor anyone else, to ride with him.
“Hey.” You interrupt his inner thoughts. He looks over to you to see what you were going to come out with.
“Wanna go for a ride? I noticed you were eyeing up that bike over there.” You joke, enveloping his arm with your arms.
“I mean, I would like to.” Nagito begins. “But trash like me sh-“
You drag him over to the bike.
“Stop with the ‘trash’ rants.” You state. “Now, do you want the front or the back?”
Sonia Nevermind:
The moment you spy the bike, you’re running over to the bike. Poor Sonia was struggling to keep up with your steps, flailing her limbs around.
“S/O, what happened my dear?” Sonia demanded.
“I saw this bike, and it looked like something you’d like to try out!” You retorted.
Sonia looks over at the bike, her eyes lighting up.
“Ah! This reminds me of those old-fashioned romance movies where a romantic couple ride on it lovingly.” Sonia sighs out. She’s staring at it in awe.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu:
The yakuza was escorting you to a place you wanted to show him.
Why did you drag him out of nowhere? He was walking along side you, watching out for any potential danger.
You stop at a bike.
“Is a bike that mysterious to you, S/O?” Fuyuhiko blandly questioned.
“It’s not the bike itself that I wanted you to see! I want to ride it with you!” You respond, pointing over at the two seats located on the bike.
Fuyuhiko stares at the bike for a minute, making you feel uneasy.
“I-I mean, if you don’t want to that’s fine as well…” You sadly admit to him.
You begin to walk away, but Fuyuhiko grabs your hand, pulling you over to the bike.
Akane Owari:
You were doing laps around the island with Nekomaru and Akane.
After 5 laps, you took a liking to a bike that you spotted. The reason the bike was one you’d like was because it had two seats – you could share the ride with someone else.
You had Akane in mind.
You didn’t even realise that you stopped in your tracks to admire the bike until Akane speaks up.
“I like that bike as well, s/o!” Akane was ecstatic that you found the bike.
“Wanna go for a ride?” You blurt out, smiling at Akane.
“Sure! Nekomaru, can the both of us go now, or do we have to complete the task?”
Nekomaru was about to debate against the action, until he saw the looks on the both of your faces. Both of you looked so excited, happy that you could even find a bike like this one.
“Go ahead!” He responds. “We can do a contest where people go into teams to see who can do the most laps around the island in ten minutes!” He blurts out as you’re both running towards the bike.
Kazuichi Souda:
When you ask Kazuichi if he wanted to ride the bike with you, he’s looking at you like you were trying to prank him.
“I’m not falling for this one.” Kazuichi tried to go against the idea of finding a bike he never even saw on the island.
“No, there really is a bike we can both ride on! Follow!” You cheered, walking with newly found motivation within your legs.
He does follow you, as he had nothing to do. On top of this, he was wanting to know if there was, in fact, a bike like the one you described.
Finding the bike, he’s staring at it in awe.
“Can we go on it?” He admits, laughing at the realisation that he thought you were lying when it was a real thing on the island.
Peko Pekoyama:
Peko looked down, and you couldn’t really figure out what made her feel upset.
So being the loving person you are, you invite her out to a bike ride.
She doesn’t really say much when you’re wrapping your arm around her waist.
But when she does get to the bike, she looks really happy. Contempt with the situation you’ve offered her, she happily goes to the front seat to steer you along the island with the help of your legs.
Nekomaru Nidai:
You spy the bike, and you want to ask Nekomaru to come with you to travel using the two-person bike.
But when you get to him, you get nervous.
“Speak up, S/O!” Nekomaru projects. “You have to speak to start going after your dreams and desires!”
That made you even more nervous. You were blushing profusely, while stuttering out what you had in mind.
“Ah, is it about that bike I’ve been interested in?” Nekomaru questioned.
You nod.
“Well let’s make your desire to ride the bike into a reality!” He finishes, initiating a race between the two of you to the bike.
Hiyoko Saonji:
She wanted to do something romantic with you, but you were too oblivious to her changed attitude around places she wanted to stop at. You thought she didn’t want to be in the places she got quiet and flustered around, but she wanted you to be more lovey dovey with her.
When she caught you looking at the bike in question, she had enough of your actions.
“C’mon, let’s do something fun for a change.” She whines, while dragging you along with her.
You smile to yourself, and you let her chose who sat at the front and back of the bike, as well as the route.
Teruteru Hanumura:
When you found the bike, you decide to ask him if he could ride with you.
“Ohohoho, so you’re ready to go up a level in our relationship, cher!” He excitedly pondered.
“Uh, no…” You try to explain. “I found a bike, and I thought that you’d like to ride it with me!”
He does agree, but then he discovers that his legs couldn’t reach the pedals.
So the ride consisted of you being at the front and escorting Tertuteru through the island, while Tertuteru was shouting out sexual comments to people passing by.
Mikan Tsumiki:
Mikan wouldn’t really be honest with what she wanted when you guys were hanging out, and you noticed how many times she looked at places that would have had romantic undertones.
When you asked her if she wanted to go, she got nervous and said that you wouldn’t have to do so. She looked really scared, almost like she was preparing for you to abuse her like other people did in the past.
So when you guided her to a bike, she squealed with happiness before quickly apologising for her actions.
“Mikan, ride with me, please.” You smile at her, easing her into the situation. “I want to make you feel loved.” You finish, caressing her hand.
You look up at her face, and she’s smirking with a heavy blush on her face.
“I-I would love to!” She beams.
Byakuya Twogami:
He would try to keep up his façade of Togami, let’s be honest.
When you look at the bike, he already knows what you wanted to go on it with him.
“Ah, so you want to ride a measly bike with me, I see…” he retorts. “Well, I must escort my lover through the island, so I suppose I must do so!
Mahiru Koizumi:
Mahiru was complaining about the lack of inspiration to take more pictures that she was proud of. The island got boring for her after the first week of being there.
So when you find the bike, you hurry Mahiru over to the bike, allowing her to make a decision based on viewing the vehicle.
She makes a proposal to you. You would take the front seat and guide her around the island, while she would take pictures from the bike.
Gundham Tanaka:
You wanted to catch Gundham off-guard, but nothing really worked. The closest you got to him breaking his character was when you were hardcore flirting with him while giving multiple sensual body signals implying you wanted something else. Even then, all you really got was him nudging his scarf up, hiding his prominent blush from your moves.
Aha, you struck gold! A bicycle made for two!
You were walking with Gundham, and he didn’t seem to notice the presence of the bike. Almost like he didn’t want to draw too much attention to the bike itself.
“My dark lord of the underworld,” You whispered to the Sagittarius, making him stop in his tracks. “Wanna ride?”
You heard the poor guy whimpering, so you look up to see what face he was making.
You managed to make him so flustered that he’s nervously shaking, while stuttering out something you couldn’t hear. Maybe you went TOO far with this plan.
“Over there’s a bike that both of us can ride on.” You finish your request. “It would allow you to declare war on this island!”
Gundham slowly looks over, to see the bike you were questioning. He stopped stuttering, and he managed to calm down his shuddering. He’s got a hint of excitement in his eyes, and he’s unable to hide this.
Ibuki Mioda:
Let’s be honest, Ibuki would have seen the bike long before you knew it was present.
How did you not see the two-seated bicycle that was stretched out on the island? It practically stuck out like a sore thumb, but it didn’t seem like it was used.
“Ibuki discovered a bike we can enjoy a ride on!” Ibuki declared, running towards you with a smile. “Ibuki thinks that Ibuki could find more inspiration for writing new songs based on the excitement!” She finishes, dragging you along while skipping before you could go against the action.
You didn’t want to go against the action – Ibuki was clearly excited, and you also wanted to enjoy a ride around the place to take your mind off the killing game for a while.

Notes: Farewell My Lovely
Last time trying to piece things together....here we go man.
- All the arrest records there were to do with the murder of Mona Vanderwaal...sometimes I forget that they were actually arrested for that. I do wonder if that’s gonna end up being foreshadowing for the finale...
- Aria. Be more suspicious, please. That cop is oblivious and I’m curious just HOW oblivious.
- I like how Hanna is much less upset this time at the prospect that Mona is A.D. And when I say like..I am saddened.
- I dislike Ezra (also, those in glass houses should not throw stones)...but he is right about the ability (or lack thereof) to forgive.
- I really enjoy Aria talking to Dunhill haha. I think this is probably the most interesting Aria has been in a long time, maybe even ever.
- Mona is getting consumed by the game again. You can see it in the way she dresses now. The lack of make up. The clips in her hair. All of it.
- Time for pie...pie keeps coming up. The Two Crows. I know that’s where Mona was supposed to meet Charlotte but... Isn’t this where Hoodie-Spencer met Hoodie-Toby as well? Where Pretty Eyes went? God it’s been so long...
- I wish they had utilized the character of Mary Drake better. The whole storyline (at least so far) has been rather disappointing. I hope she ends up being much more interesting in the finale.
- So am I to assume that the gas pipe leaking into the DiLaurentis house will pay off in the finale then? We don’t see it again this episode...or was it just to put them to sleep?
- So with Mona looking that nervous..it must mean she literally has no idea who might be coming to meet her. She probably doesn’t have a strong idea of who A.D. really is then.
- The “married or something” line was just..lame. Bad writing.
- Caleb really fucked this up. He should have just stayed back and waited like the girls said...they might have found something out that way.
- Or I guess the chance of losing her completely also would be possible.
- “Somebody’s always stealing the game from me.” - Mona is unraveling. She knows that someone else has been in charge...is that something to do with where Wren’s loyalties were back when she went back to Radley?
- How did Ezra say that line with a straight face? Masters in American Lit aha. Laaaaaaaaaaame.
- Interesting that they re-shot this scene with them all busting in saying “he’s coming for you.” - also we all kinda had the thought that this was somehow a dream sequence...but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing. Why use a dream sequence for a season teaser. Booooooo.
- Wow, been a long time since we saw video footage from the kissing rock. That’s a far way back to go man. I miss that stuff.
- “To whom” “Shut up” - love it. Reasons to love Spencer.
- When you panic you go back to old (familiar) behaviour. Foreshadowing again. I wonder if it’s for more than just Mona...
- When did Mona have time to change? Like, did she just keep a stash of clothing in the damn church!? Something feels off here...
- Is this how it really went down between Mona and Charlotte? Can we trust this scene?
- Mona =( My poor baby. She’s broken. Is this real or an act? My lovely Mona.
- Wait. So if Mona killed Charlotte...why did that big SUV try to run down Emily when she collected that broken piece of suitcase? Why did that person care?
- Considering all the theories going around that Cece was never Charles...this could be seen as a HUGE clue towards that...(digging Dunhill out of the grave I mean). So...is someone else actually Charles?
- How did Mary know that the body was buried in Charles’ grave? I want to appreciate her sacrifice for Spencer and the girls, and I do, but I can’t help but wonder how she knew this. Was she listening in? Has she always been listening through the game? Or did she figure it out on her own? Did A.D. give her hints? How did she know?!
- How did Mary know all those bits of evidence, like the glass in Spencer’s shower? Again, she must have inside information that we don’t know about yet...
- My poor Spencer...she just wants to talk to her Mom man...
- You know...as Mary walked away from the interrogation room...her silhouette sure looks familiar..Like maybe she was in an outfit that we’ve been told was someone else before...maybe the Black Widow? Or even a Red Coat...the one watching Spencer and Wren kiss? I dunno...something something looks too familiar.
- ..”You needed me” ....oh Mona. She breaks my heart. Seriously. Please let her survive the finale...
- Mona never meant to kill Charlotte? Is that what she means about “messing” it up? My poor girl has killed two people by accident now...
- So...the murder weapon was the church all a long. Not Melissa’s suitcase handle. It was in sight all this time and never found.
- There’s always something Spencer...goodness.
- So..there was a split in the path that Caleb and Spencer obviously made a choice and ended up at the church...where did the other route go?
