The 2023 Season, and the unfortunate luck of the Hendrick Motorsports #48 Ally Racing Team.

(First rant on here so don’t expect much)

Alex Bowman, some call him a hack, some similarly, also call him unworthy of piloting one of the most famous numbers in NASCAR.

To be fair to y’all, he has had some MAJOR fuckups this year, most recently coming at the Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina this past Labor Day Weekend, when while battling TrackHouse Racing Driver Daniel Suarez, Alex blocked aggressively, twice, and wrecked him and Daniel both, costing them BOTH the race, after what looked up to that point to be a solid weekend for the 48 team after barely missing the playoffs the week before in Daytona. Now he did apologize afterward via social media, but fans continue to heckle him, week after week.

Let us not forget however, that this same Alex Bowman was docked 60 points earlier in the season for something entirely out of his control, which shoved him back around 30th in points, and most likely is the reason he didn’t make the playoffs when it came down to Daytona two weeks ago now. ALSO on that note, I can’t forget his back injury which sidelined him for 5 weeks in the midseason, where the 48 team (without him there mind y’all) was good enough to win on multiple occasions, I’ll list some now:

- Dover, Josh Berry, the fill-in for Bowman, raced the 48 to a top-10 finish. Could’ve very well been a win had Alex been there given he won there in 2021 (I know, different car, but same track)

- North Wilkesboro (All-Star Race), Berry rolled the 48 home to a top-15, again I feel like with Bowman, that would’ve been a lot better, given the unpredictability of the track since it hadn’t been raced on by cup cars in half a century up to that night.

After his return, Bowman put on some really good performances at races, I’ll highlight the HighPoint 400 @ Pocono Raceway, where up until he practically got dumped by Denny Hamlin at the end of the day, he was up front.

Alex, given everything he’s been through this year, doesn’t deserve the hate he’s getting. As a 48 fan I’ve watched that man come back from fighting the worst demons that he’s probably ever faced, only to watch him get shit-talked on socials for not being good after he got back for a while because he was out of the car for a month.

Alex has won before, MANY times, and does not, because of one or two errors this season, in my opinion, deserve the hate he’s getting for everything he’s had to put up with. The 48 team will be back with a vengeance in 2024, and then? That cup is theirs.

Jess’ POV

I looked up and saw Denny standing there looking pissed a fuck. 

“What?” I asked. 

“Don’t what me. You and Bowman.. Out of all fucking people you have to be intimate with that asshole?!” Denny yelled. 

“He’s not an asshole. Just cause you don’t like him cause you think he’s a ‘hack’ and dirty driver. If you think he’s a dirty driver you should look at yourself. You’re one of the dirtiest drivers out there.” I replied, defending my man. 

Denny rolled his eyes. “I told you no dating or getting involved with drivers! You may be an adult but you’re still my little sister.” 

“Okay I’m an adult tho. I’m 21, you're 41. Even though I’m 20 years younger than you. I need to be an adult with freedom. I’m old enough to do anything. Now leave me alone. It’s a long ass drive.” I replied. I stuck my headphones over my ears and texted Alex. 

Jessica: I miss you 😢 

Alex: I miss you too baby 

Jessica: Denny’s being an ass. I wanna be with you, not go back to NC with him.

Alex: I live in Concord, NC.

Jessica: I’m in Lake Norman, I’ll drive to you

We got home and I went to my room, and packed a duffel right away. Then I headed out to the main living area. 

“Where are you going?” Denny asked.

I looked at him, “I’m going to be with Alex.” I admitted.

“No you’re not.” He replied..

“Daddy, let auntie be happy.” Taylor, Denny’s oldest daughter said.

“Princess, stay out of this.” Denny replied to her. 

Taylor looked down and walked away.

“You’re such an ass. Goodbye.” I said, walking outside.

I got in my car and made the 54 minute drive to Concord.

After pulling up to Alex’s house. I got out of my car and grabbed my purse and duffel bag. I walked up the driveway.

“Hey gorgeous.” Alex pulled me into a hug. I felt a relaxation sensation when Alex hugged me. 

After getting settled, we had a few drinks and got in the hot tub. 

“So what did Denny say when you told him you were coming to be with me?” Alex asked.

I chuckled a little, “He said that i wasn’t going, and my niece, his oldest daughter, Taylor, said to let me go, Denny told her to stay out of it, she walked away and I told Denny bye and left.” 

“Hahahaha that’s awesome, also I’m sorry but your brother’s a dick.” Alex replied.

I nodded, “You don’t gotta apologize,” I laughed.

Alex pulled me closer to him and kissed me. I kissed him back. He got out of the hot tub, and lifted me up, continuing to kiss me while carrying me to his bedroom. Once we got upstairs, he threw me on his bed, smirking at me.

I looked up at him and he kissed my neck. “Mm fuck.” I moaned. 

Alex undid my bikini top, and kissed down to my boobs, sucking on my nipples, causing me to moan louder. “You like that, baby?” He asked.

“Mm, mhm.” I replied.

He didnt say anything after that, just took my bikini bottoms off, and he started licking my pussy. “Oh god!” I moaned out in pleasure. I felt him start to suck me, “O-oh fuck daddy, yes!”

Caps discuss Kevlar socks in wake of injury to Senators’ Erik Karlsson

Wednesday night, Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson suffered the type of scary fluke injury that all hockey players hope they never have to endure.

Karlsson suffered a 70% cut of his left Achilles tendon when Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke’s skate inadvertently got caught on the defenseman’s foot while they were battling for the puck along the boards.

Karlsson, the defending Norris Trophy winner, had surgery Thursday morning and will be out for three to four months according to Senators General Manager Bryan Murray. Cooke did not and will not receive any supplementary discipline for the play, which was deemed accidental.

“It’s unfortunate, I think, and nothing you want to see out there,” said Nicklas Backstrom, who knows Karlsson. “But obviously it happened and I feel sorry for him, I feel bad for him.”

Cuts on players’ legs or arms from skate blades are a common occurrence in the NHL, though most manage to avoid serious harm. Karlsson’s unfortunate injury may prompt some players to take additional precautions, like using socks reinforced with Kevlar that are cut-resistant.

Among the Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, Eric Fehr and Jay Beagle all use the Kevlar socks.

The socks don’t protect players completely, but they add another layer of defense. Fehr said he sustained a cut on the back of his knee last year, above where the socks cover, that required stitches.

Matt Hendricks was cut on his right foot, near his ankle, by a goaltender’s skate during his college playing days at St. Cloud State. He doesn’t use Kevlar socks now, but he did change how he suits up for games after the cut. Hendricks now places his shin guard over the tongue of his skate to prevent the possibility of lacerations, he used to push it down making him vulnerable for cuts at the top of his foot.

“I think the scariest part was I’m looking down at my skate and I don’t see anything wrong. And I feel a lot of pain from it, but you can’t see it,” Hendricks said. “It’s not like when you get cut on the face where you can immediately tell that there’s a problem. So that’s scary.”

After seeing what happened to Karlsson, Backstrom said he might consider using the Kevlar socks and he might not be the only NHL player who thinks about such a change.

“I don’t know, maybe I’ll try it,” Backstrom said. “That would be great if you can prevent it.”

----- ----- The above Washington Post article is from February 2013. It was worried at the time about guys' Achilles tendon being cut. Sid is among NHL'ers who wear Kevlar socks. I don't know why neck guards aren't more of a thing. (I'm guessing it's because they're hot compared to a bare neck. But why not let them do double duty and put cooling packs in the guards?)

If you're going to protect your ankles and toes, why not protect your neck?

Disappointment. Again.

That move was so stupid. Why would you get out of line with 5 to go, leading on a track where drafting is of utmost importance? Today was so great for this team until that move. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the team for building a fast car for Talladega but we can’t be making dumb moves when we are leading and the race is almost over. And the Roval is next week so we have no chance there. I’m just super frustrated with the ending of today because we still are without a win.

I say all this but at the end of the day I’m still a 48 fan for life.
