Miracles in Gotham: Chapter Six: The Calm Before
Thank you to @ozmav for the Maribat AU and @mystery-5-5 for helping me out loads with the story!
I was supposed to update every day starting December 11, but I was busy with the holidays so I couldn’t and then I had a really shit sleep schedule. Basically, I’m super sorry and this is me attempting to make it up to you guys.
Also, some people keep bringing up that Marinette could just use Kaalki to go from Gotham to Paris, so I’m going to take this chapter as a chance to explain why that isn’t.
Also, this chapter will be super long because I’m trying to get the gang in Gotham by Chapter 10 at the latest.
If you want to see more, follow: #miraclesingotham or ask to be added to the tag list.

Dear Diary,
Sass’ story was...informative in some ways. In some ways, I see myself in Alfred Pennyworth. I can’t imagine not having the Ladybug Miraculous or Tikki in my life but unlike Alfred there are days where I want to quit and leave it all for someone else, someone older, wiser, better, to fix.
But, there’s just me. Just Marinette.
I’m thinking of  going to Gotham to see if Alfred Pennyworth has acquired anything worthwhile after his time with the Snake Miraculous. At least Papa and Maman will be happy I’m going.
I’ll have to speak with Chat first. After all, this decision affects him too, and he’ll need to know why I’m not arriving on patrols or akuma attacks. It’s times like these where I wish I could just pop open the box and call on Kaalki, but it’s not possible for now. Either I get the tablet from Hawkmoth or I learn how to read the Journal myself to open the stupid box. Hawkmoth really is the root of my problems, huh?
I should get going now. It’s about time for my patrol.
Wish me luck!
Bisoux,
Marinette
Later that night, Ladybug found herself again on top of the Eiffel Tower, this time without the threat of falling over the edge. She watched the darkening skyline for the sight of her partner, half hoping he’d show up sooner, half hoping he wouldn’t show up at all. She had called him earlier for an impromptu meeting, and he had mentioned that he also had something to tell her.
Whatever it was, she had a feeling that she wouldn't exactly be happy with it.
In her lap sat the rather large spotted egg that was supposed to be the Miraculous Box. In the cloth shoulder bag beside her contained the rest of the active Miraculous. The other kwami were currently flying around enjoying the fresh Parisian air. She wasn’t too sure why she had brought them in the first place. It had been a hassle to travel with them (since the egg didn’t fit in her yoyo and the bag took a while to adjust to), but maybe it was time to take Chat’s words into consideration and start trusting him with the Guardian side of the Miraculous a bit more.
Especially with what she was planning to do.
“Do you think you and Chat will be able to open it, Master?” Sass asked, floating in front of her face.
“I’m not sure. Maybe we could with Cataclysm, but that’s not a risk I’m willing to take.”
“Rightly so!” Longg huffed. “We do not know the consequences for the other kwamis if you plan to turn the Box into ashes. Think of all the other kwamis that are trapped in there! It would be reckless to do so even if Tikki’s power could reverse the effects of Plagg’s.”
Pollen sighed and floated on top of the box, lying down and patting it with her small arms. “My poor comrades. I know how hard it is to be stuck on the other side, but have patience, my friends.”
Ladybug frowned. “Is it really so bad?”
Wayzz joined Pollen on the box. “We’re isolated from the world in that space, without a notion of time passing as humans would. It gets lonely, even if we all have each other,” he explained.
“That’s horrible,” Ladybug whispered. She watched as Sass, Longg, and Trixx joined the other two on the Box. She never really thought about how stressful this must’ve been for the kwamis whose only companions were each other. They were cut off without means of communicating from one side of the other. Her chest tightened at the sight of them and she found herself retreating to the now all too familiar spiral of  deprecating notions.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a deep howl ringing through the night sky. She looked up to find Chat Noir catapulting himself into the sky with his baton, doing a few flips before coming back down and doing it all over again, each time more ridiculous and flamboyant than the last. By the time he reached the Eiffel Tower, he was panting, although he grinned widely at Ladybug’s applause.
“Even better than last time, Chat,” she remarked, adjusting the bag to allow Chat a place to sit. “Have you been practicing lately?”
Chat retracted his baton and sat down with a graceful flourish. “Why of course, my Lady. All the better to please you.”
Ladybug rolled her eyes fondly and elbowed him. “Chat.”
“And by please you, I mean as friends of course!” Chat exclaimed, holding his hand up. “Chaton’s honour.”
Ladybug giggled. “Well, if that’s the case, consider me pleased.” She sighed and shifted to face him. “Time for business.”
“And what’s this you got here, bug?” He asked, craning his head to observe the spotted egg and the kwami all over. “Did my Ladybird lay an egg while I was gone?”
Ladybug huffed. “This egg is the Miracle Box I told you about.”
Chat lifted his head to meet her eyes. “No. Really?”
“Yes, really. Why?”
Chat reached out to pet the kwami with his fingers. “Well, it’s definitely marketable, if you’re into that sort of thing.”
Ladybug scoffed. “If it was so marketable, it’d open without any trouble.” She sighed. “This isn’t really why I called you here but do you have any ideas what we could do to open it?”
Chat contemplated the Box, his finger and thumb playing with his chin like he had an invisible goatee. “I could try to use Cataclysm and you can use Miraculous Ladybug to bring it back?”
“The kwami were just talking about that. We can’t risk hurting the kwami.” Ladybug furrowed her eyebrows. “Wait, maybe Lucky Charm…?”
“You think it’ll work?”
“Either way it’ll be lucky,” she said before handing the box and bag to Chat and standing up.
“Lucky Charm!”
A red and black spotted bone popped out of thin air and into Ladybug’s hands. At first glance it seemed like an actual bone, but it was soft and plush to the touch.
Ladybug wrinkled her nose. “A chew toy?”
Chat struggled to refrain from laughing. “Got a little doggie you’re hiding from me, my Lady?” He mimed fainting, his hand clutching at his heart dramatically. “Oh, the betrayal, Ladybug! How could you replace me with a dog?”
Chat’s dramatics continued while Ladybug analyzed the chew toy. It was slightly larger than her palm, and always reverted back to its original state despite Ladybug squishing, twisting, and almost ripping it apart. After a while, she called for the kwami and Chat, ignoring the latter’s spiel.
“Barkk’s the dog miraculous...would she be able to sense the chew toy and phase out of there?” Ladybug looked up to see that the kwami and Chat were looking at her stunned.. “Oh, what?” I’m  trying,” she huffed.
Trixx laughed and floated over to the lucky charm to inspect it themselves. “Remember to look underneath the underneath, O dear Guardian. The one thing Tikki and I have in common is that with us, everything is not what it seems. Maybe you’ll require a dog in the future, or maybe dogs will be irrelevant in the scenario.”
Ladybug huffed. “Thanks for the insight, Trixx. Helpful as always.” Trixx merely giggled and gave her a wink. Trixx was often a delight to have around, mostly because they helped Marinette with her plans and schemes, but they were also often vague to the point of nonsense.
“Let’s see if being Mister Bug has taught me anything about Lucky Charms, my Lady,” Chat said, trading the chew toy for the Miracle Box. He held it up and played with it. “Supple, really soft but really sturdy. Maybe it could be a door stopper? Or we could tie it onto the Miracle Box and drop it from the Eiffel Tower and the force, upon hitting the chew toy will not only cushion the fall, but pop the box open.”
“Uh, physics might not be my greatest subject, chaton, but I don’t think that’s how it works. Like, at all,” Ladybug said, following behind Chat as he trailed along the beam.
“Right you are, but a lot of your normal plans usually defy the laws of physics so who knows?” Chat turned around to grin at her.
Ladybug pursed her lips. “I mean, I guess we could try, but not from the Eiffel Tower.” Ladybug adjusted the box in her hands and shoved to bag over Chat’s shoulders. “Meet me at the Louvre and don’t drop the bag. The kwami’s miraculous are in there.”
“Aye, aye, my Lady.”
With that, both heroes headed to the Louvre to test Chat’s theory. Needless to say, it didn’t work. It had ended with the Miracle Box falling on top of M. Kubdel’s head as he was heading out of the museum (thankfully,  it had fallen where the chew toy had been). This incident led to M. Kubdel yelling at Ladybug and Chat Noir who couldn’t convince him that they were in fact, the actual heroes doing Official Superhero Business. That then turned into a chase of cat and mouse between Ladybug and Chat, and M. Kubdel because he had been convinced that the Miracle Box would make a great exhibit in the museum and would’ve gotten away with it if Chat hadn’t used his baton to shove the Miracle Box out of his arms, and Ladybug using the yoyo string to trip M. Kubdel. Ladybug had to swoop in quickly and save him from falling on his face while Chat chased after the Box to prevent potential damage. By the end of it all, an irate Ladybug and a sheepish Chat Noir scurried back  to the Eiffel Tower before any curious civilians could follow them and see their antics. Or before M. Kubdel could gather up the guts to run off with the Miracle Box again. The kwamis flew behind the two heroes, their tiny laughter echoing behind them.
Ladybug let out a heavy sigh. “Well, that was a bust.”
“It was...interesting,” Chat said, although he winced  at Ladybug’s tired eyes  bore through him. “Okay, well it could’ve been worse.”
“M. Kubdel basically chased us off of the museum grounds, Chat,”she deadpanned. “And then he tried to steal the Box.”
Chat winced again. “Okay, yeah it definitely could’ve gone so much better.” Chat chanced smiling at Ladybug. “You’ve got to admit, it was a little bit fun. “
Ladybug breathed in, before breaking out into a small smile. “Okay, it was a little bit fun.” A moment of silence passed before the two teens fell into rambunctious laughter, leaning into each other to keep their balance. It took a few moments for them to calm down and regain their bearings.
“We’re so gonna have to apologize to M. Kubdel when we next see him,” Ladybug managed to say in between chuckles.
Chat scoffed playfully. “Of course, my Lady. We are outstanding, proper citizens, after all,” he said in a voice that was more posh than his regular voice.
“Okay, okay. Back to business, chaton,” Ladybug said, squaring her shoulders and tightening her grip on the Miracle Box. Chat adjusted the shoulder bag on his shoulder and turned to face her.
“What’s up, bug?”
She breathed in deeply. Before she could say anything about what she wanted to tell Chat, she remembered that he also had something he wanted to tell her. “You first, chaton. What’s up?”
It was almost comical the way Chat straightened his posture with wide eyes and avoided Ladybug’s gaze. Ladybug pitched the bridge of her nose. What the hell did her partner do now?
“Chat…,”
Chat held out the chew toy  in front of him to provide some cover and space between himself and the spotted heroine. “So, do you remember that thing we talked about the other night? With the Justice League?”
Ladybug slowly nodded, already starting to connect the dots.
“So, I may have-”
“So, you may have?”
“Yes, I may have, let me finish, Ladybug!” Chat exclaimed before shifting his stance. “Anyways, I may have emailed them that same night…,” he trailed off.
Ladybug froze. “You mean that same night I told you why it was a bad idea to do so? And you agreed to drop it?”
Chat interrupted her before she could continue. “Hold on, I didn’t necessarily agree to drop it. Look, just listen to what I have to say first, oui?”
Ladybug sighed. “Fine.”
“RIght. Anyways, I did contact them, but not to help us here, but for advice. Since you know, we haven’t really made any progress with finding out who Hawkmoth actually is. Maybe they have some insight.”
Ladybug huffed. There was a part of her that wanted to scream at Chat Noir, remind him about the risks and why they hadn’t done so before, and how they didn’t help before, but she simply relaxed her shoulders. “Sit down, chaton. I’m not gonna do anything to you.”
Chat’s eyes shifted from the empty spot beside her to her. “You sure?”
She nodded. “I’m not going to liee, I’m really pissed that you went behind my back like that, but it’s done. Besides, you’re definitely right that we need help and you’re not the only one who went around looking for help.” She looked around and called out, “Sass!”
“I’m sorry by the way. If it helps, I only got the automatic reply so far,” Chat said, patting Ladybug’s shoulder.
“Thanks, chaton.” When Sass flew to both of them, she continued. “I asked Marianne if she knew anything about the Miraculous, and she mentioned a guy named Alfred Pennyworth who was the Snake Miraculous user before Viperion.”
“Hey, Sass,” Chat greeted, giving the kwami a tiny high five. “Then what’s so important about this Alfred Pennyworth?”
“He was close with Master Fu during World War Two and held onto the Snake Miraculous the longest. Sass mentioned that Alfred had plans on researching the Miraculous after his time in service. I’m planning on seeking him out for information, but, here’s the part you’re not going to like.”
Chat tilted his head. “What do you mean?”
Ladybug gulped. “I’m planning to seek him out, but he lives abroad somewhere in the Americas.”
Ladybug let the information sink in as Chat’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped. Marinette had contemplated telling Chat where exactly in America she would be, but decided not to risk him making the connection between her trip and the akuma class’ excursion to Gotham.
“But the akumas-” Before Chat could continue, Ladybug interrupted him.
“I will be going abroad, but Ladybug isn’t.” She played with her fingers before continuing. “I will be taking the Miracle Box and Sass with me, but I’m leaving Tikki behind with one of the other users.”
“Isn’t that a risk to their identity, though?” Chat asked, scratching his head. “I mean, it looks like you’ve thought it all out but don’t you think you need more time before-”
“I have a week before I go,” Ladybug interjected. “I talked to Tikki and she can make it so the new Ladybug owner looks completely unrecognizable from their previous hero identity. I’ll have to train them in the next week to the best of my ability.”
“Why can’t you just take the Horse Miraculous with you?” Chat asked.
Ladybug simply held up the locked Miracle Box and shaked it a bit. Chat’s lips formed an ‘O’ in understanding. Ladybug nodded sympathetically. “Yeah, I know. It sucks major ass.”
Chat gulped. “I,” he sighed. “Is there any way that any of the other heros can fill in my spot too?”
Ladybug blinked in surprise. “You’re going out of the city too?”
“Yeah. My class has a class trip in Gotham and my attendance is mandatory,” he explained. Ladybug tried to forget the unnecessary parts of what he said. Despite the fact that Ladybug often scolded him for it, Chat Noir was still more lax about revealing personal details.  It took her a second to fully process what he said.
“Gotham?” She squeaked. “Your class is taking a trip to Gotham? As in the Gotham trip that Mme. Bustier’s class is taking?” Ladybug’s eyes were the size of saucers and she had shifted so closely to him, they were practically nose-to-nose. Chat seemed to realize his mistake because his eyes widened and his breath hitched as he backed away from Ladybug, his tail swinging wildly behind him.
“I, I mean Georgia! Like the state, Georgia!”
Ladybug backed down, her eyebrows furrowed. She knew he was lying, but it was probably better to dismiss it. There was no way Chat Noir had been in her class this entire time. And even if he was, Chat’s identity was so not her priority right now. She cleared her throat.
“Right! Heard they had great beaches this time of year,” Ladybug blurted out, not really sure of what she was saying, but it seemed to calm Chat down, so she didn’t really care.
“Yep. Great academic stuff too like...aquariums…,” Chat trailed off, pursing his lips and looking like he swallowed a lemon.
“Right! Well, we can probably get the others a user to cover for you, if you already have someone in mind,” Ladybug said very quickly, still trying to get her mind off of the fact that Chat was going to be in Gotham the same time she was what the fuc-
“Uh, yeah.” Chat looked away bashfully, his cheeks reddening. “I was thinking of asking Kagami Tsurugi. She was Ryuko before so she’ll be used to the Miraculous.”
Ladybug nodded. “Sass, can you call the other kwami over here, please?”
“Yesss, my Guardian.” With that, Sass flew off and returned with the other kwamis.
“Change of plans, guys,” she said, addressing them each with a subtle nod. “Chat’s going abroad as well so we need to use one of your Miraculous as well. Is there any kwami willing?”
Wayzz floated forward. “Who will be the recipient?”
“Kagami Tsurugi,” Chat said. Without saying a word, Longg shook her head and bowed out. She felt a bit sad that Ryuko couldn’t become active on the field without risking her identity. In her stead, Pollen floated forward determinedly.
“My Guardian, I believe my Venom will be most useful for this mission,” she chirped. Ladybug turned toward Chat.
He nodded. “I think that’d be ideal. Kagami’s very...straightforward.”
She nudged him. “You know her well, then huh, chaton?” she teased, raising her eyebrow at him.
His cheeks darkened and shoved her back playfully. “As if you don’t have your own boy toy running around, my Lady.”
Ladybug snorted. “I don’t have a boy toy, chaton. I’m too busy for all of that anyways,” she huffed.
“Not even for the guy you have feelings for?” he winked.
She shook her head. “No,” she whispered. “I think I’m ready to get over him, honestly. Not jealous, are you, chaton?”
Chat smiled lazily. “I think I got the message by now, my Lady. I’m not going to wait for you if you don’t want me there.”
“Thank you,” she smiled. She knew Chat had feelings for her, but since she could never really reciprocate, she was happy he was moving on. “Anyways, you’ll be giving Kagami the Bee Miraculous tomorrow and we’ll help her get used to her new powers over the next week.”
Chat nodded. “By the way, Ladybug. Who did you choose to be the new bug?”
She smiled softly. “Luka Couffaine.”
His eyes widened. “Are you sure?”
She nodded. “He’s been through numerous resets and has helped me out in the ones I could remember, so he would be the most familiar with my tactics and how the Lucky Charms work.”
“Makes sense,” Chat mused. He turned toward her with a face-splitting grin and held his fist out.
“Pound it?”
Ladybug smiled and copied his motions.
“Pound it.”

Judge of Character
Damian Wayne Imagine
Tumblr media
Damian Wayne isn’t big on friendship. From a young age, he has been taught not to trust anyone, including so-called family. Since he was taken under the Batman’s wing, he only trusts a very few, limited to his family. So it's no big surprise the blood son of world’s greatest detective reacts hostile towards a surprise guest in Batcave. But when he sees how his pets behave around her, he might change his mind.
Gotham Academy. The most prestigious school in the dangerous city. All of the city’s elite sent there children there. Unfortunately for Damian, he was also sent there for a highschool education. The blood son of the Bat hated it there; it was full of fake people, ones who snobbishly flounted themselves in the school’s halls all because their parent was the head of some notorious company, or something along those lines. Damian knew the only reason they put up with him was because of his father and his ties to Wayne Industries; anyone not on par with their wealth and status were considered lesser than them and they barely tried to hide it. This, coupled with Damian’s cold exterior, made it hard for him to make friends. One thing the young Robin did not need was groupies.
“How was your day, Master Damian?” Alfred asked the young teen when he picked him up from the academy. “Uneventful as always, Pennyworth. Teachers teaching, and I mean that loosely, subjects that a toddler could figure out and hormonal hazards gossiping and pretending to care about my wellbeing ... should I go on?” Damian tsked, looking out the sleek car’s windows. “So, high school, basically?” Alfred replied, eyes not moving from the road in front of him. “A high school full of uptight snobs. I don’t understand why Father makes me waste away there. I could probably teach better than the teachers there. And they supposedly have taught in Ivy League colleges.” “I understand your frustrations, Master Damian. But Master Bruce wants you to experience normal teenage life. Maybe even make some friends.” Damian scoffed, rolling his eyes. “I swing from rooftop to rooftop, battling the criminals of gotham’s seedy underworld and fight alongside metahumans. Tell me how that’s normal exactly?” “That way be true, but then again you don’t really hang out with people your own age, do you?” Alfred pointed out, raising an eyes at him through the rearview mirror. Damian remained quiet, his arms crossed over his chest in frustration.
The rest of ride back to Wayne Manor was silent, even as the expensive car parked in front of the main doors. Damian wordlessly strode into the mansion, after Alfred opened the door for him of course, dumping his backpack on the ground. “Master Damian, I’d like to inform you that Master Bruce has a guest that will stay in the Manor for awhile as they help your father on a case,” Alfred said as he picked up the discarded backpack, placing it next to the jackets and shoes. But when the butler turned around, Damian was nowhere to be found.
Damian hadn’t heard a single word that left Alfred’s mustached mouth for he already was making his way towards the secret entrance to the Bat Cave. “Father, are you here? I would like to have a word with you?” he called out once he made it to the Cave. Silence met him, even the bats that gave the cave its name were quiet. Damian was suspicious as he thought his father would be here. He specifically remembered that he had a case he was working on that was particularly difficult.
As he strode into the center of the cave, he could hear the sound of keys clicking as well as images popping up on the monitor, showing that someone was on the Batcomputer. But who? All he could see from his position were feminine gloved hands working across the keyboard. Intruder, he thought. Without a second thought, he grabbed a sword from the nearby weapon rack and lunged at the mysterious infiltrator. With a yell, he slashed at the back of the high chair in front of the supercomputer, slicing it right down the middle. He grabbed what was left of the chair and turned it around only for there to be no one in the chair. How? he thought. Where could they have gone? A voice calling out to him answered his question.
“That was close,” it said. Damian spun around to face the unknown intruder, sword pointed at them and his body in a defensive stance. In front of him stood a girl in hero attire, hands on her hips. This girl looked to be young teen around his age, yet she appeared to be wise beyond her years. The (f/c) and (2nd f/c) clad teen raised an eyebrow as she stared at him, also studying his appearance. “You must be the current Robin. It’s nice to me you. I’m -” she tried to introduce herself. But Damian did let her finished as he already leapt her. The girl was able to effortlessly dodge his multiple attacks, on the defensive as Damian relentless went after her.
In his effort to land a hit, Damian led the both of them to where the numerous Batsuits were located. The young Robin eyed his mysterious opponent, who didn’t show any signs of being worn out. Suddenly, he stabbed at opening he foresaw knowing there would be no way that the mysterious girl would be able to dodged it. Everything seemed to go in slow motion, the pointing tip of his sword stabbing through the air and towards the middle of the girl’s chest. But when the sworded entered the vicinity of the young girl, with a wave of her gloved hand a bright filled the air. Damian yelled in pain as the light blinded him and he felt his body rebound as if he ran into a brick wall.
He quickly regained his footing, skidding a foot or so across the hard metal flooring. When he regained his eyesight, his eyes widened at what was in front of him. The mysterious teenage girl was floating several feet off the ground, a bright electric blue light surrounding her, eyes glowing the same bright blue as electric blue glyphs surrounded her. Shit, Damian thought to himself. She’s a magic user. Before he could do anything, he was encased in a cube of translucent blue magic. Damian tried to break his magical prison, first with his sword and eventually with his fists, but it was useless. He was stuck right where he was and would not be able to escape.
“Maybe this will teach you a lesson,” the girl said, her glowing hand raised as she held up the magic barrier around him. “Let me out of here, intruder! How did you get into here! Who do you work for?” Damian yelled pounding his fists against his magical prison. “Intruder? I’m a guest, you snot nosed brat! I’m helping your father on a case in my mentor’s place,” the girl explained, acting insulted. “A likely story. My father just doesn’t trust any amateur vigilante,” Damian scoffed. “And yet this ‘amateur vigilante’ happened to trapped you in an inescapeable magical prison,” she sassed back. Damian glowered in response, opening his mouth to say something when a dark shadow enveloped both of them.
Batman glided down to them, his shadow shrinking as the legendary detective came closer. Damian smirked to himself, thinking that his father would now deal with the young intruder himself. The Bat landed on the cold metal platform, surveying the scene from under his cowl with calculating white lensed eyes. To the surprise of the young Robin, his father turned to the magical girl and said with a deadpan voice, “What happened?” “Father! I caught this witch snooping around the Cave and on the Batcomputer trying to -” “Excuse me, but I’m a sorceress, not a witch, you arrogant bastard. And I already told you I was invited here to help Batman!” the female vigilante interrupted.
Damian frowned and set his sights on the Bat, silently asking for confirmation. “She’s speaking the truth, Damian. I’ve asked (supernero name) to help due to her knowledge of the occult and its arts,” the older vigilante explained. “Didn’t Alfred tell you we would be having a guest? I specifically told him to remind you.” So that’s what Pennyworth was saying when I left him talking, Damian thought to himself. He realized his mistake, but remain quiet, not one to admit he was wrong.
Bruce sighed, his shoulders dropping as if he was exhausted from his younger’s sons actions. “(superhero name), can you release my son now?” he ordered sternly. “Yes sir.” With a wave of her hand, the magical prison surrounding the young Robin faded away. Damian took a cautionary step forward, just in case there was a hint of barrier left. Luckily there wasn’t and he was able to approach his father.
“Father, who this miscreant? How could you trust her? I never heard of this so called ‘(superhero name),’“ he complained. “Damian, her mentor is Zatanna, one of the members of Justice League Dark. I asked her for help but she was unable to come so she sent her apprentice instead,” Bruce patiently explained. Damian took a moment to remember everything he knew about Zatanna and the auxiliary Justice League group. If he remembered correctly, his father helped the group once to defeat a world-wide demonic threat.
“I don’t care if she’s the sidekick of a knock-off Justice League member. That doesn’t make her trustworthy,” Damian replied snarkingly. “Damian,” Bruce said, using his ‘father voice.’ “Sometimes the right thing to do is just give someone a chance. Only then will you find if it was worth it to trust them.”
Bruce walked off, leaving him silently stuing in place, stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the knowledged passed onto him by his father. Alfred was the one to break the stiff silence, having come down to the cave with a silver platter in one hand. “Master Damian, if you’re not going to listen your father’s sound advice, would you at least like a sandwich I prepared?” he asked, an eyebrow raised as you stared down at the fuming teen in front of him. “Maybe later, Pennyworth,” he answered. Damian brushed past the elderly butler, making his way out of the Batcave. “Would you like one, Ms. (superhero name)?” he heard Alfred say. “I would love one. Do you happened to have (favorite sandwich)?” “I believe I do. Here you are.” Damian could only ‘tsk’ grumpily. She might have Alfred under her spell already but I won’t fall for it, he thought.
~ Time Skip ~
It’s been a week since the disliked newcomer arrived. A week of Damian having to deal with (superhero name) whenever he got back from school. The young Robin had enough; it seemed wherever he turned in the manor, she was there. Just her presence got him in a bad mood, despite the young heroine never have done something to warrant his grump disposition. What seemed to get even further on his nerves is that Alfred and even his father were friendly towards the girl. Well, as friendly as the Bat could get that is. Damian still did not trust the (f/c) clad hero, keeping his guard up whenever she tried to get him to warm up to her.
The blood son of the Bat was currently wandering the halls of the manor, caught in quite a predicament. “Alfred! Alfred!” he called out, eyes searching his surroundings. “Did you call me, Master Damian?” the elderly butler asked. It appears he was in the middle of dusting the decorative furniture in the hallway, as he had a feathered duster in hand and apron to protect his uniform. “I was calling for Alfred the Cat, actually. Have you seen him anywhere, Pennyworth?” Damian cleared up. “A yes, your feline companion named after yours truly. I should known you meant him. I haven’t seen him while I was doing my duties. But I believe he might be in family room as he quite likes it there,” Alfred replied. “Thank you, Pennyworth. I’ll leave you alone to continue with your work.”
Damian steadily made his way towards the family room, taking the magnificent wooden stairs down to the main floor of his ancestral home. In no time at all he had reached the informal room, where he his family usually spent their free time when guests weren’t over. But as he stepped into the room, he stopped in shock at the unbelievable sight in front of him. Sitting on the floor was (superhero name) leaning against a resting Titus and Alfred the Cat relaxing on her lap.
It was as he was in a daze, walking up to the young heroine. “What is going on?” he questioned. (superhero name) looked up at Damian in surprise, yet Alfred the Cat and Titus didn’t even move. “Oh, hi, Robin. How are you?” she responded nonchalantly as if she didn’t see Damian’s perplexed exterior. “You didn’t answer my question. What did you do to my pets?” Damian ignored her suggestion, face hardening as thousands of possible scenarios ran through his head. Why are they so comfortable around her? They usually dislike strangers, he was thinking.
“I’m afraid I have no idea what you are talking about. I’m just taking a break from the case so I can clear my head. Is that so wrong?” (superhero name) said, gloved hand running through the fur on Alfred the Cat’s back. Damian picked up on the sound of the feline purring, infuriating him further. “Whatever spell you put on them, you better take off right now. I don’t take kindly to magic being used on my family,” he ordered, crossing his arms across his chest, trying to look as threatening and serious as he could. But it obviously failed, as (superhero name) started to laugh at him. Damian growled, insulted at the sound of her mirthful bell-like laughter.
“Wow, you really are caught on this whole I’m-untrustworthy-and-possibly-a-criminal idea,” (superhero name) snickered once her laughter died down. “For all I know, you are a criminal. Or at least you’re not currently breaking the law. A mysterious past, no indication on whenever what you view as ‘right’ is actually ‘wrong’ ... Why would I trust you?” Damian pointed out rather harshly. (superhero name) just frowned, stopping her caressment of his pets. “Listen here, Bird-Brain,” she practically hissed. “If I really was such a bad person as you say, then why are your pets okay with me being here. They know nothing about me, just like you, yet they can tell I’m a good person.”
Damian tried to argue, but was unable to come up with anything and so remained silent. He thought over what she told him, fighting with himself over her words. If she what she said is true and that they aren’t under some type of spell ..., one part of his brain was saying. ... then maybe I should give the benefit of the doubt and trust her. But he other part was refusing to budge, scolding him. How do you know she’s trustworthy? Your pets being friendly with her doesn’t mean anything, it told him.
(Superhero name) saw how Damian was fighting an inward battle and sighed. “Listen, Robin,” she began, looking deep into his green eyes with her (e/c) one, refusing to look away. “There is reason why your pets are so comfortable with my presence. Its because they can tell I’m a good person. Animals have a rather exceptional judge of character, can’t you tell.” Her words hit him, settling into his brain. Damian couldn’t help but regret his previous actions, especially when Titus nuzzled his head into (superhero name)’s side and she wordlessly caressed his black fur with a warm smile.
Damian gave up, groaning loudly as he tried to apologize, albit awkwardly as this wasn’t something he did often. “I’m ... sorry, (superhero name). I see now that might have been a bit hasty with my judgement of you. I can see that you are a kind and worth of my trust,” he struggled to say. “I accept your apology. But please, call me (y/n). If we’re going to start over and be friends you should at least know my real name,”
“Damian. My name’s Damian,” he told her. (Y/n) gave a bright smile, one that caused a genuine smile to make its way to Damian’s lips. He couldn’t help but go over the word ‘friends’ in his head. I’ve never had a real friend before, he thought. It sounds nice. (Y/n) broke him out of his inner dialogue, patting a bean bag chair next to her as she smiled. “Come sit, Damian. I’m sure Titus and Alfred would love to have another person to cuddle with,” she joked. Her smile was contagious, making one appeared on Damian’s face as he silently did as she said. As soon as he sat on the cloth beanbag, sinking into the bean filled cushion, Titus shuffled himself so his large head was laying on his lap. A pang of amazement shot through his heart at the sight. Seeing Alfred the Cat doing the same to (y/n) made him feel all fuzzy inside. He let himself relax and leaned back into the plush bean bag, quietly chilling with (y/n) and his beloved animals.
~ Timeskip ~
Before long Damian and (y/n) went there separate ways. The supernatural case she was working on was solved and she left Bat & Co. to return to Zatanna. Meanwhile, Damian went back on with his public life, going back school and so on, and eventually back to the Titans. In the limited time they had with each other, Damian was able to bond with the magical teen. Their shared interests in art and love of animals of course brought them closer together. Alfred, the butler not the cat, was shocked that they had gotten so close, especially after their initial meeting. Even the big Bat himself raised an eyebrow as Damian and (y/n) gushed about one thing or another.
So when he had to return to Titans Tower, Damian secretly missed his fast friend. Sure, he had Raven, Beast Boy, Jaime, and Starfire, but it just wasn’t the same. I wonder what she’s up to now, he thought as he roamed the barren hallways.
Suddenly, Beast Boy rushed up to him in the form of a green cheetah. “Bro you’ll never believe this!” he exclaimed once he returned to his normal form. “What is it, Garfield?” Damian replied, hiding his curiosity behind a passive face. “We’ve got a new team member! They’re coming any minute now!” the shape-shifting teen bounced with excitement. “What?” Damian didn’t have time to process this new information, for Beast Boy grabbed his arm and pulled him along.
Now, Damian could have forced Garfield to let go of hi, but he decided it was better to just let the green teen do what he wanted. So in no time at all, he was in main entrance of the tower alongside the rest of the Titans. Garfield finally let go of him and immediately started to chattered Jaime’s ear off. “I see Garfield brought you up to pace,” Raven spoke, voice monotone as always. “Wish it someone told me the news sooner. Did you know about this?” he asked his goth friend. Raven nodded her head no, watching Starfire preparing for the newcomer. “I’m just as clueless as you are,” she replied. “I have feeling the League has a hand in this,” Damian scoffed.
Out of nowhere, a portal appeared, enveloping the area in a (f/c) glow. “Oh, they’re almost here! Everyone smile for our new friends and be on your best behavior,” Starfire ordered, excitement oozing off of her in waves. Through the magical interdimensional circle a figure appeared, silhoused by the intensity of the portal’s light. Everyone shielded their eyes until the figure stepped fully through and the portal disappeared behind them. Damian finally got a good look at the newcomer, gaze rising as he took in more of their appearance. When his green eyes stopped when he saw a familiar face.
The new team member was (y/n), dressed in a new uniform and an extra guest perched on her shoulder. A medium sized cat gazed at him with two different colored eyes, one blue and the other green, with a distinct fur pattern that made one half of its face orange with stripes while the other was completely black. I remember here telling me she always wanted an animal familiar, Damian thought. I see she finally got her wish. “Well, isn’t this a surprise,” (y/n) said, a smirk on her lips. “Didn’t expect to see here, Boy Wonder.” The rest of the team looked on shocked as Damian confidently strode up the sorceress. “Me, surprised? You give yourself too much credit, (superhero name),” he tsked. (y/n) just smiled , maneuvering her cat to be held in her arms. Things just got a lot more interesting.

Takes place a month after Tim starts Robin training.
I wasn't too sure what the requester meant by "JARVIS and Alfred snippet," but this turned out into trying to show a bit of Tim's interactions and thoughts on his relationship with both JARVIS and Alfred
basically ended up being a drabble about the Batfam learning about Tim and Tony's Godparent/Godchild relationship ^_^''

Butlers
2009
Tim let out a sigh as he turned off the nice warm water from the shower in the Batcave that had help sooth his sore and aching body. Mr. Wayne wasn’t going easy on him at all with his training, always pushing Tim to his limits. They’d only been training for less than a month, but Tim could already tell he was improving. He’d lasted longer today than he had during their previous sparring sessions.
After Tim pulled on a fresh pair of sweatpants and a loose T-shirt out of the stash of clothes that were kept in the Batcave for these occasions, he reentered the main part of the cave and noticed that Alfred Pennyworth was waiting with a plate of cookies and hot chocolate. Bruce was nowhere to be seen, undoubtedly getting ready to head out for patrol.
“Thanks, Alfred,” Tim smiled as he took a cookie off the plate.
“My pleasure, Master Timothy,” the butler said kindly. “A room has been made up for your stay with us this weekend…”
Tim nibbled on a cookie as Alfred’s words flowed over him. He hadn’t really noticed it at first, due to his nerves and wish to make a good impression on Mr. Wayne and Dick Grayson, but now that he’d been relatively accepted into the group and was being trained to be the next Robin, Tim had started to notice how similar Alfred was to JARVIS in tone and cadence in their voices as they talked. There was also a similar level of snark and sarcasm that dripped with every exasperated comment they aimed at those they served.
It was funny, but despite the fact that Alfred, being an older man, had a more, well, older , sounding tenor, compared to JARVIS’s younger sounding voice, they conveyed such similar emotions and styles of speech. So similar in fact, Tim often thought that if JARVIS had an actual physical form, he’d look a lot like a younger Alfred, perhaps. Yes, he knew about Edwin Jarvis, whom JARVIS had been named for and he’d seen pictures, but it was hard to put JARVIS’s voice to Edwin Jarvis’s face.
“Master Timothy?”
“Sorry, Alfred,” Tim said, smiling sheepishly. “I must have spaced out.”
“Must be some rather heavy thoughts to distract you from Alfred’s cookies and hot chocolate,” a familiar voice piped up.
Tim spun around in his seat and spotted Nightwing as the older teen leaned over the handlebars on his cycle, grinning up at TIm and Alfred.
“Not really,” Tim said, hunching his shoulders. “I was really just thinking that Alfred reminded me of someone I knew, that’s all.”
“Oh really?” Nightwing chuckled as he slid off his bike and flipped up to where they were so that he could snatch up one of Alfred’s cookies. “Know a lot of old fashioned English butlers that keep their superhero charges in line?”
Before Tim could answer, his cellphone rang. Tim frowned as he pulled it out of his pocket, only to find that it was not ringing. Then he realized that it had to be his other phone - the one that Tony had given him. He could have sworn that he’d turned it off before he started training that evening.
“You have two cellphone, Master Timothy?,” Alfred mused, eyeing the sleeker second phone. It was obviously Stark Tech. Even Nightwing was raising an eyebrow at the device.
“This is my emergency backup phone,” Tim explained. “Only one person ever really calls me on this.” Well. One person and one AI. Tim looked at the caller ID and saw that it was JARVIS calling. “Hello?”
“ Master Timothy ,” the AI greeted. “ It is good to hear from you. ”
“It’s nice to hear from you too JARV, but why the call?” Tim asked. JARVIS had never initiated phone calls before. It was usually Tim who called to update the AI on what was going on in his life or to vent at whenever he couldn’t personally reach Tony. If Tim was being painfully honest with himself, JARVIS was his best friend. He could tell the AI anything. Well… almost anything. He hadn’t breathed a word about training to become the next Robin on the off chance the AI got protective of him and either informed Tony or strongly hinted at it enough for his dad to figure it out himself. It’d happened before.
“ I am so sorry to be calling so late, but I thought that it was in Sir’s best interest if you were notified and could possibly convince Sir that staying up for 56 hours working in blackout conditions in the lab is detrimental to one’s health. ”
“Say no more. Put me through, JARVIS,” Tim sighed, but fidgeted when he realized that Bruce was back in full Batman regalia and had joined Nightwing and Alfred in staring at him.
Nightwing looked confused, but both Bruce and Alfred seemed surprised and curious.
“ He-low! ” Tony’s voice said over the line, slurred slightly either from alcohol, lack of sleep or a combination of the two.
“Tony,” Tim said neutrally.
“ Timmy! ”
“Why is JARVIS calling to inform me that you’ve been up 56 hours straight?” Tim asked.
Silence.
“Tony?” Tim prodded.
“ This situation feels very backwards ,” Tony huffed. “ Shouldn’t I be telling you to go to bed? ”
“I’m not the one who’s been awake for 56 hours playing around in the lab,” Tim huffed.
Tony grumbled unintelligibly for a moment.
“Tony, go to bed. Whatever you’re working on can wait another 8 hours for you to recharge,” Tim chuckled, shaking his head.
“ And if I don’t? ”
“I’ll have JARVIS call Colonel Rhodes and Miss Potts on you,” Tim said, grinning. Even Batman and Alfred looked amused, while Nightwing only looked more confused than ever.
“ You wouldn’t .”
“I would,” Tim said. “And if JARVIS doesn’t inform me that you’ve gone to sleep within the next hour, I’m telling my mother on you.”
“ You cruel child! You and JARVIS are traitors! ”
“I’m sure Mother would be very appalled to hear what a bad example you are setting for you Godson,” Tim sighed.
“ You play dirty, Drake brat ,” Tony huffed, but Tim could hear the undertones of amusement in his voice.
“I learned from the best, Mr. Stark,” Tim quipped, grinning when he saw Nightwing’s jaw drop in shock. Even Batman looked a little surprised. Alfred only looked put together as always, but his eyes flashed with amusement.
“ Brat ,” Tony grumbled.
“Old man,” Tim snickered. “Now go to bed Tony, before I make good on my threats. JARVIS, you know what to do.”
“ Indeed, Master Timothy. Thank you and goodnight ,” JARVIS said.
The line clicked and Tim slipped his phone back into his pocket with the other one.
“You know Tony Stark?” Nightwing asked, bewildered.
“Since the day I was born,” Tim said, shrugging. “Mother and Father made him my Godfather. He visits whenever he’s in Gotham. Especially if he’s got a new car or something for his collection. He’s the one that taught me about engineering and mechanics, and everything I know about hacking.”
“You are full of surprises, aren’t you, Master Timothy?” Alfred asked.
Tim shrugged bashfully, watching as Batman remained quiet. There was a tightness in the man’s shoulders and a pained pinch to his mouth. Then he turned away and headed towards the batmobile, but not before glancing at Jason Todd’s memorial case. Tim felt his heart sink. Just what had he done now to remind Bruce of his former partner? He looked back at Nightwing and Alfred, but Nightwing only shook his head.
“Stark taught Jason a lot about mechanics and hacking too,” Nightwing muttered before heading off to join Bruce.
Tim watched sadly as the Batmobile raced out of the cave with Nightwing on his bike in hot pursuit.
“Why don’t we retire for the evening, Master Timothy?” Alfred suggested after a long quiet moment. “I’ll reheat the hot chocolate and we can go over your homework together.”
“I’d like that, Alfred,” Tim sighed. “Thanks.”
“It is no trouble, young man,” the butler said, leading the way back up to the mansion proper.
Author’s Note:
This part I actually wrote this afternoon. I hadn't been sure what to write for this request for a while, but while going back over the "Jason death reveal" drabble I'd written last night and rereading some of the previous chapters, I came up with the idea that JARVIS and Alfred must really sound alike to Tim after a while. They're both British more-than-bulter types with a penchant to use subtle sass and sarcasm. So a younger Alfred is what Tim imagines when he thinks about JARVIS having a human form. They both address Tim as Master Timothy, and tend to sass Bruce and Tony in similar manners. Basically, in my head-canon, a younger Alfred supplied his voice when Tony was refining JARVIS's program after losing Howard, Maria, and Edwin Jarvis in the "car crash."
So, yeah. Tim finding similarities between JARVIS and Alfred is mostly because they share the same voice. Alfred was the closest in tone and tenor of voice that Tony could get after loosing the human Jarvis. Alfred did this because he is in fact very fond of Tony, and when he feels comfortable enough to drop formalities, he'll address Tony only as "Anthony". No Master. No Mr. Just Anthony, something he only does with Bruce on rare private occasions. If Bruce is Alfred's pseudo son, than Tony is his pseudo nephew. I hinted in the Two Robins and a Nightwing chapter that Alfred knew Edwin Jarvis. I'm not saying they were brothers, but I can see them as cousins of some sort. They were close before Edwin's untimely death at any rate despite living of opposite ends of the country, and Alfred saw the same pain in Tony that he saw in a younger Bruce after Edwin's passing. So I imagine Alfred and JARVIS conspiring a lot to keep their charges safe, healthy, and in line. ...I may have to write that at some point. :P
