Going to be honest: I've been getting increasingly bothered by the whole "girlfailure" trend in fandom lately because I feel it goes hand-in-hand with the teehee cutesy "girl math" and "girl dinner" and "I can't do hard stuff I'm just a girl" bullshit that's been cropping up all over, just disguised in a fandom context. And even if someone wanted to be like, no, it's just because we're tired of seeing badass female characters—

Why aren't you tired of seeing badass male characters? Yeah, I see people cooing over poor widdle meow meows, but never people deriding male heroes the way they deride "girlbosses" or saying they want "boyfailures" to the same extent

Do you not realize that we had decades upon decades of media where female characters were not allowed to accomplish anything of note aside from kissing the hero and building a home? And sometimes (often) it was really the hero kissing her, and she just needed to look happy about it

It wasn't really until the 80s or 90s that we started to get our Token Girl among the Cast of Boys, and even then the girl could never outshine the boys, she was just there to Be a Girl and often Look Pretty, but the boys always had to be the REAL heroes, she was just one of the secondary characters

In the 2000s we got more Girl Power stuff but even then . . . 2003 Teen Titans could give Beast Boy two focus seasons but Starfire couldn't even get one ffs

Point being, we've worked fucking hard to get here and it's still not perfect, and I understand wanting more well rounded female characters, I want them too, but the answer is NOT to fucking backslide into "girls who fail at and can't do anything teehee :3" because that will just give credence to the misognyist assholes who already pitch fits every time a woman appears on screen in a superhero movie to do something other than be a sexy lamp.

Forgive me, I'm here to bother you once more. What kind of headcanons do you have about the Lil' Witties' head markings?

ahh u got me. i made a chart about this (and other general outfit/culture/anatomy things floating in my head for too long) after the other messages (since writing things down helped A LOT, lol who knew).

For the most part, I see them as markers for individuality (like thumbprints) in a species that may have had....looser concepts of such, or not hold it in the same regard as we do in the sense that we have private thoughts and personal goals. In my au, i wrote a forehead mark to be something that develops and darkens over time, and is imprinted from the "mother" (we can say this is genetic or a psychosomatic thing, maybe akin to choosing a name with familial meaning). this could be woven to say that the shape of the Witness' is an "average" one - as in, an average or mean of collected data, a blank slate, or that it has a particular meaning relating to their(species') goal and philosophy about the final shape and was chosen collectively (in the au, it was chosen under different circumstances and carried over).

Here I outlined possible types of markings that could form symmetrically. I haven't entertained asymmetrical markings since symmetry itself seems thematically important for light and dark, especially so to their ideas of order [except for 1 thing in particular that is technically in the au but is more involved one of my fics -- so I'll leave it out. iykyk.]

regardless, though, it's just fun to draw different squigglies on them. maybe they never had any markings to begin with and it's just some sort of side effect of the Veil; maybe it's some kind of tattoo that one individual had (er, conductor, would be the proper term, but that's a whole other thing), or other sort of clothing/headdress allusion that got lost in the magical girl transformation.

let it be known that anyone who’s got kaldur as their least favorite team 0 member is just straight up racist because that dude is the definition of poise, badassness and amazing powers, is literally from under sea and his dad is a crimelord, which comes w angst in itself.

also one of the few characters who has proven time and time again that he could be trusted w any form of leadership and do good with it. villains are scared of him, wally was jealous that he would hook up w artemis while they were undercover in season 2, is extremely relatable in the sense that he got so much responsibilities from a young age and since then had to deal w the maladaptive tendencies that came w it (which are him thinking that he was needed at all time by everyone and that his worth was defined by how many responsibilities he was carrying, when it’s not at all the case) and eventually got over this tendency in s4 (or at the very least learnt to lessen it a bit)

is also the one we see the most interact w the rest of the og team individually. he has a special bond and dynamic w each and every single one of them, smth we are not shown that much w other ogs, whose interactions often only vary between two other members or less.
