1994 by Cavetown is such a Steve coded song. And subsequently also very much a Steddie song.
Analysis:
[Verse 1]
I'm trying to forgive myself for things I didn't do
For words I didn't say and things I didn't choose
Spending everyday decomposing in my room
I'm not okay, but there's nothing I can do
The first two lines can easily relate to his King Steve era and how he wished that he stopped Tommy H and Carols bulling and steped up for things that are important to him now and also were back then.
The other two lines are him not having many real/good friends after the upside down happened and being alone a lot of the time (when he's not with the kids or Robin). And also just him dealing with all of the trauma he experienced.
[Verse 2]
I'm tryna love the person I was when I was born
Could be him coming to terms with being queer or just generally dealing with self acceptance in a broader way.
Hating on a kid doesn't serve me anymore
Sylvanians making stories on the floor
And my mom and dad in love like it's 1994
This is him mourning over his lost childhood and how his parents treated him, how their relationship deteriorated over time. (I'm aware that we do not know alot about his family in canon but i'm writing this with the Steve the fandom created in mind)
[Chorus]
Say you're comin' around
I need you lately, everything's been getting me down
Yeah, the kids are grown up, I feel like I'm stuck
But I don't wanna catch up right now
This makes me think of Steddie and how they need eachother. Especially when the kids/ The Party are grown up and don't depend on him that much anymore so he has to find a new purpose in life and deal with his own shit
[Verse 3]
I'm tryna get a better sense of what I'm worth
'Cause I've been on the fence and in the dirt
Taking it easy
But I forgot I had a job and nothing ever stops so
This is him dealing with his selfworth again, especially in the context of the trauma if the upside down and always thinking that it will be back some time soon
[Chorus]
Say you're comin' around
I need you lately, everything's been getting me down
I broke a glass on the floor, it was the last straw
This could be him botteling up all of his feelings and then breaking down when it's too much, or maybe also getting triggered by the noise of the glass breaking.
It's like I woke up on the wrong side of town
This is him still feeling like he's stuck in the upside down (the wrong side of Hawkins)
Say you're comin' around
I need you lately, everything's been getting me down
I felt so much older than the kids 'round the corner
But I feel so much younger now
He felt like he needed to protect all of his kids and now that everything is over and they are grown up he feels left behind. Everyone could move on except for him (or that's at least how he feels). He thinks the kids are ahead of him in life.
And through all of that he needs Eddie with him.
[Outro]
Overtook the month, slow back down
Blamed a child in a daisy crown.
Daisy crown made me think of this post and is therefore also Steddie coded. (I don't think that he blames Eddie for anything tho)
Sorry this got quite angsty so quick.

positions: Stoned Favorites
OOooooookay. She did it to me again. It’s the fact that everytime she drops an album it’s at a point in my life that’s nearly aligned with the lyrics and emotion. It’s the same shit with Taylor’s works. Either that, or I’m a normal human being like everyone else who relates to lyrics and music and makes it personal. :) Anywhoo, Ariana dropped this album today and I’ve already listened through about 15 times from start to finish. No skips for me. I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of art she’s released. It’s 100% the most mature sounding piece vocally that she’s heard. She said in her Zach Sang interview that this album she just wanted to sing more than she normally did before in her era of bops. And giiiiirl did she DELIVER. Switching positions here now.
Here are my favorite parts and favorite things about the sexy, flirty, fun, vulnerable, gooooorgeous art that is positions by Ariana Grande:
shut up: gorgeous freaking way to start the album. LOVE the strings. Classic Ari opener imo. okay yeah, favorite part of the song is the strings. in the chorus on the second round when her voice does the descending scale *chefs kiss*. and then the fantastical disney princess ending faded/tuned out intooooo
34+35: *giggle* JUST GIMME THEM BABIES. this song is my first favorite from this album. beautiful ass strings and it’s a song about 69ing. GIMME MORE. i been drinking coffee!! and i been eating healthy!! you know i keep it squeaky!! saving up my energy!! *for sex*. favorite part of this song by far is this beautiful, sexy ass BRIDGE- baby you might need a seatbelt when i ride it, ima leave it open like a door come inside it, even though i’m wifey you can hit it like a side chick, don’t need no side dick no, got the neighbors yelling EARTHQUAKE, 4.5 when i make the BED SHAKE, put it down heavy even though it’s lightweight, we started at midnight, go til the sunrise, done at the same tie, but who’s counting the time when we got it for life, i know all your favorite spots, we can take it from the top, YOU SUCH A DREAM COME TRUE TRUE, MAKE A BITCH WANNA HIT SNOOZE OOOOOH. and then the autotune at the end is just cherry on top.
motive: this BEAT give it to me MURDA. in the pre-chorus when the highhits come in, yes. and then into the beat drop on the chorus YES. whats your motive mmmmmmmmm. Doja’s little voice slurring up notes into her verse i just heard it listening to this and it was beautiful. literally music to my ears lol.
just like magic: OKAY THIS SONG IS A FAVORITE. using it to manifest moving forward thank YOU, 10:44 as i write that. love every single thing about this song. every thing. especially this bomb pre-chorus, chorus combo.favorite part is that white noise before the second chorus though. I take that moment to say a little thank you to the universe <3 - redesign your brain, we gon make some new habits!
off the table: Ari+Able=Unstoppable. The vulnerability here. I’ve cried listening to this song. Thank you for this one Ari. *not yet healed or ready* that part is me lmao. i’m waiting for the abel character to enter my life now lol that’s where i’m at in relating to this song... love’s off the table at the moment but i feel universe brewing up realness
six thirty: this one worked its way up to a favorite. i’m in loooooooove with this chorus and the beat behind it and her runs and her her note jumps and the harmonies. Are you down? what’s up. favorite part of the song - and maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be, i’m the release you the dopamine~
safety net: this is my fave collab on the album i think... they’re all tied closely together. But this song gives me a nostalgia vibe, a taste of like a darker, sweeter, richer kind of vibe. Her voice also is buttery and raspy and so mature sounding and it’s just a new song from her and a new sound from her. and i feel like right now i’m just entering a ‘new’ in my life so this is the one i’m relating to the most. I just click with it the most.
my hair: and this one gives me Vulnerable Diva which i feel is a slight summary of Ari. not that she’s negative diva - she’s only ever the positive aspects of Diva. Icon. Pop Queen. The Moment. give me that electric guitar. favorite part is her whistles matched with the horns it’s too beautiful. i’m a sucker for some classical instruments, jazzy, concert. and the fact that she does literally a full chorus in whistle? EXCUSE ME?????? untouchable.
nasty: again, grew to be a favorite. knew it was gonna be from the clip on insta though. every thing about this one is just cuddling and tickling my heart. don’t wanna wait tonight i wanna get nastyyyyy whatcha waitin fo. her voice and the lyrics and the beat and the chimes in the background. it’s a dream. the echoing. her vocals uggghhhh. *promise ima give it to you like you never had it, i do it so good it’s gon be hard to break the habit, you like a whole constellation, swimming like you on vacation, promise i’m still gonna love you when you wake up in the am*
west side: instant fave - again the nostalgia. I feel like NSYNC in this one. favorite of this one is just the simple “meet me on the west side fooooo me”. it’s that bass that’s making me feel the boyband. and her little ride on the beat on the chorus, with those harmonies on the ends of the phrases. just let me be in your life like tht, be your wife like that, i’ll bring the light right back, i’ll bring the life right back.
love language: when i first heard this song, that intro hit me HARD and good. this is another like throwback-y, i love it. the piano and strings, give it to me. ‘you the medication when i’m feeling anxious, that the kinda shit i like.’ AND THEN THIS OUTRO OMG YES. i ain’t tryna sign no lease, i’m just gon make you my home - intooo
positions: !!! EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS AS THE LEAD SINGLE AND THE TITLE SONG AND UGH EVERYTHING. fell in love with the song immediately. learned every word by the next day just like i’ve almost done with the album now. the acoustic guitar on this one is strumming my heart strings.
obvious: another immediate favoritteeeee - starting off with just her voice, genius. that beautiful bloop of a piano beat behind her voice. the plucking of strings on the pre-chorus and piano notes. i’m in love. the chorus is my favorite thing of this. again, the piano and the strings on a trappy beat is everything to me. that’s my aesthetic lol.
pov: i cried hearing this for the first time. i connected with this song because literally this past week before hearing this song come out, i’ve been wondering so hard - “i wonder how people perceive me. what could my image be in their eyes”, and thinking about how i am from my ex’s eyes - my love. i’m in tears. if it’s as much as he says he loves me then i would LOVE to see myself the way he sees me because that’s the most beautiful woman on earth and everything to him. but then i’m sad because i’m not with him right now. this chorus though - for all of my pretty, and all my ugly too, i’d love to see me from your point of view... and the raindrops in the song, the sad song to end the album. very Tayla, very R&B lol. giving me love and basketball vibes. Such a beautiful song, such a beautiful message, so much love, such a beautiful closer.

The “Race and Albert adopt a kitten” fic litterally no one was waiting for but you’re gonna get anyway.
This is fluff! Canon era, no pairings but you do you <3
Also, i’m very new to the whole “writing” thing so i’d love any kind of feedback, cause I want to improve both my english and my writing skills!
There’s gonna be a part 2, it’s already on the way, i just gotta survive tomorrows exam first...
EDIT: Here’s part 2
 "Racer. Albert. Care to explain?"
The boys in question smiled the biggest smiles they could muster.
Hi Jack how ya doing Jack nice evening uh what are you talking about Jack ahaha yeah good chat we better be going Jack.
"Antonio Higgins, Albert DaSilva, ya ain't going nowhere till ya tell me exactly why that papes' bag is meowing."
The bag was indeed meowing, and also moving quite erratically, bouncing against Albert's hip, uncaring of the boy's efforts to keep it still.
Just as Race moved to shield the evidence from view, valiantly trying to distract Jack with some nonsense about auditory hallucinations and when's the last time you've eaten something Jackie ya sure yer alright, a sharp claw found his way through the thin canvas and into the flesh of Albert's hand. In the tender spot between the index and the middle finger, to be exact.
This caused the redhead, in order, to yelp quite audibly, to try and jump away from the threat, to realize the threat was hanging in a bag on his shoulder, to swear loudly and colourfully, to remove said trashing and screeching bag from his shoulder and keep it as far away from him as possible and, finally, to raise his eyes, lock them in Jack's and stare at him for a couple of seconds with the most endearing panicked expression. "Fuck."
The sound of Race's facepalm echoed between the walls of the alley, reached the few kids spying on the whole scene from the fire escape, and carried on towards the New York sky. Jack tried so hard not to laugh. He almost succeeded.
A few minutes later, the smallest kitten any of them had ever seen was snuggled tightly in a towel and cradled against Albert's chest, purring like the world depended on it as the boy lightly scratched her under the chin.
A small crowd of newsies had to be forced out of the room after at least 4 sets of hands had tried petting the poor creature at the same time. Faint "can we keep it" and "aww it's so tiny" could still be heard from the other side of the door, but Jack wouldn't let himself be fooled.
Crossing his arms and squaring his shoulders, he waited for the boys to explain. Race was the first to try his luck.
"Okay. Here's the thing. T'was a dark and stormy night..."
"It's barely evening"
"...t'was a dark and stormy afternoon, shut up Jackie it rained earlier, and me n Al was walking down the street tryna sell our last papes. T'was cold and we was wet and miserable witch by the way we still kinda are can we go get changed?"
" Finish the story Higgins"
" 'kay, so we heard meowing from an alley right? And we goes there and we see her!"
Race's eyes widened comically as he emphatically pointed to the kitten, now peacefully sleeping. Albert's hand was protectively curled around her head. The boy was batting his eyelashes and doing his very best to look like a sad puppy while nodding along with Race's story.
The kitten was indeed very cute, as were the two hopeful looking kids fawning over her. Without even noticing, Jack let his expression soften.
The boys saw an opening and launched their attack.
"And she was all alone Jackie" "Yeah and she was in a box!" "Yeah she was all alone in a box n she was shivering and crying!" "Cause she was cold and hungry!" "And all alone in that soggy box!" "We couldn't leave her Jack she would've died..." "And she's just too cute ta die" "Ya don't want a baby kitten ta die don't ya?"
A muffled but still very loud "Yeah don't ya Jack?" from outside the room made them all jump in place and effectively stopped the stream of pleads and justifications.
Jack let out a tired sigh, mentally counted to ten, envisioned the train ticket that would one day lead him to his dream life in Santa Fe and far away from this madness, and shouted back. "Romeo shut the hell up we locked ya out for a reason!".
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he looked back up to the scene before him.
Albert had passed the bundle of towel and fur to Race, who was slowly rocking it back and forth in a passable imitation of what he had seen mothers do with their newborns.
It was impossibly adorable.
They were doing it on purpose. He knew they were doing it on purpose. He knew he was walking straight into a trap. He couldn't stop.
"A'ight."
Two pairs of bright eyes flashed up to stare at him and he immediately regretted his every life decision.
"But there's gotta be some rules..."

Hey everyone! I’m Tulsa and I’m twenty-two so please please please be over eighteen, bc I’m not tryna catch a case. I’ve had issues in the past where people who play the opposing characters change them so much that it’s not even them anymore, and then the dynamic doesn’t make sense and yeah….. (this makes me sound harsh but i promise I’m not jdsjnddi).
RULES
FORMAT;; Since these are characters that we’re playing, I’d prefer us both to use third person POV. I get very invested in my characters, but find it a bit uncomfortable when I, or my partner, is using ‘I’, it makes it too personal for me. As for doubling, that’s something I don’t do, and I know that’s usually a turn-off. I just feel it’s easier, and more fun to focus on one story/couple. I will play side characters if we need/like, but I only do one thread. I hope that makes sense lol
LENGTH;; As I tend to write stories in my free time, I do prefer longer replies. My starters will usually be anywhere from 3-5 paragraphs, and my replies at least 2, usually more depending on the scene and how much my partner is giving me. I’m not too strict about this, but I do like details, so if you’re a one-line roleplayer, we are not a good fit. For more of a glance at my length, feel free to check out my writing samples: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZRxKbX59YvNCXJejHsUHrfP0mlo_KHt9ivZRUwyrdWI/edit?usp=sharing
LIMITS;; I prefer my plots to be about 70/30 when it comes to story/smut. Limits and things of that nature can be discussed in private if need be!
PLOTTING;; As long as we’re both putting forth effort into the plot, I’m down. It’s just hard to come up with a plot by yourself, especially because you don’t know if the other person will like it. Also, if we start a plot and you find yourself bored and/or would like to try something else, don’t hesitate to ask! This whole ad makes me sound so serious, but I swear I’m just a smol girl.
REPLY RATE;; Since I am a college student, my replies may be a bit scattered. Due to Covid, I’m available almost all day everyday so I’d love someone who’s able to do quick, but also literate replies! I will always do my best to send out a reply at least once a day though, but on weekends you can expect quick replies throughout the day.
I think that’s it for all of the formalities, so onto the fun stuff!
Vampire Diaries
Kol Mikaelson & Averie Forbes… BIO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kZthnbN1uGMLaGh_MVjBV2Sgmy_qtY9xYuPU0Q7BUaA/edit?usp=sharing
Plot ideas: i really want to do something with Stockholm syndrome? Like maybe he takes her as a way to get back at Klaus or something?
Marvel/MCU
Loki Laufeyson & Eira Jarledottir… BIO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/102xmk63dnwe5RMbJegfi-cy4AZtev2IZVafhaejuCvw
Plot Ideas: when Loki is disguised as Odin and we can have her come back to Asgard and she’s completely heartbroken when she finds out Loki is ‘dead’. Or, we could do something set before the films if we’d like! Or something kind of AU where Eira is there when Loki finds out about his true lineage.
Inuyasha
Inuyasha & Kagome Higurashi
Plot Ideas: probably just something in the feudal era, or maybe she convinces him to take her to prom in present day or something Idk I’m open to anything
Stranger Things
Billy Hargrove & Katrina ‘Kat’ Wheeler… BIO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X_Xz7SOiHZpjlLyrqvzRpP-Kt-sy0zRDBDPxpMDBS2w
Plot Ideas: i don’t have any specifics for this one, but I just picture a ton of angst and a lot of unsaid feelings. I’d love to maybe try an AU where Billy survives the events of season 3 and he’s trying to find himself and figure out how to move forward and Kat wants to help but she’s not quite sure how. Or, I’m always down for good old teenage rebellion that takes place during season 2 or before the whole ‘possession of Billy’ thing happens.
Teen Wolf
Derek Hale & Paige Krasikeva… BIO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10KtrZRng-j9k4TJ1gZmSJRdqAcqdE2iIM5sfgEe3MLs
Plot Ideas: I’m thinking something along the lines of Derek sees her at the school and is completely shaken and she has absolutely no memory of the situation. So then maybe they re-fall in love or he like steadily tries to help her regain her memory. Another way to go would be they rekindle a romance, Paige having no idea of their history, and then Peter giving her back her memories but they’ve been skewed to make Derek look like the bad guy.
Stiles Stilinski & Lydia Martin
They were my first OTP and I’d love to get the chance to play Lydia again. I’m kind of down for anything with this couple.
Criminal Minds
Spencer Reid(or a male oc) & Olivia Fray… BIO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19hC6zvvbkFVaQMwwY5K-mlHOccm1YFd9j8m2CguN2AI/edit
Plot Ideas: They meet on a case and she ends up getting too deep and someone has to save her. Or she could get hired as like media personnel to give debriefings. I’ve only played in this fandom once, I’m still working things out so bare with me.
I believe that’s it??? I’m really craving these plots right now, so if anyone wants to do them I’d be eternally grateful! Also, if you have any plot ideas of your own for these pairings, don’t be afraid to share them!!! If you’re interested, please feel free to reach out via email ([email protected]) and/or Discord (gldenskies#5545)

🌹 THE ROSE 🌹 SPECIAL EVENT IN KL
The whole of last week I’ve been trying to sit my ass down to write this but I couldn’t.. & then life caught up & idk when I’d end up posting this, or who will read this, but I’ll try to put down the (broken) memories of my experience into words!
Prelude:
I took the longest time considering if I should buy the special event tickets (I finally bought it nearing the closing date). While I was so afraid it’ll be sold out, I was skeptical about spending another large sum of money on top of buying the VVIP tickets. If I had known that special event was going to happen- I’d probably have bought balcony tickets for the concert so I’ll get to hang with the boys up close (during special event) and also see them perform as 4 (I couldn’t really see jeff throughout the concert, but that’s a story for another time).
Event day:
I was confused as ever. No staff was stationed outside to direct anyone or anything the entire time, until 1:30pm when they were supposed to meet us. By then the queue for concert tagging was already growing (which explains my confusion). They called our names and lined us up accordingly (to the sequence that we bought our tickets in I assume). Then we were given our concert tags ahead of the actual issue time - so we were supposed to be given priority in entering the venue during the concert, after the top 10 tastemakers (but I still couldn’t snatch the front row- yet another story for another time). Soon enough, we were brought into the concert venue. For some reason, all of us who bought the special event tickets were not screaming all over. I think the staff thought it was odd cos she was like “okay yay!!!” in attempt to hype us up, to which we responded with low “yays”. I was honestly just too nervous at that point to react to her (I’m sorry!)
Special event:
It took place at the balcony area of the concert hall, so we had a prelude to the view that the balcony broses would have during the concert. We were lined up along the balcony, in front of a long table where the boys were to sit at. After we were given instructions, we just waited around for the boys. I made friends with broses who were behind me in the queue (s/o to my dear Farah & Nadiah who were incredibly warm!) and the three of us were just- we just don’t know how to feel at that point.
So I was just looking around and that was when I saw Hajoon backstage through a little opening in the curtain. I flipped and started tapping Farah “look look that’s hajoon right?!” the rest of the broses in line were unable to see it from their end- so i was just helplessly trying to wave to get his attention. I failed. Yes. Because at that exact moment he turned around to leave the backstage and come up to us. Saw a sneak peak of woosung’s back too tho!
I think it was when they actually appeared that I completely started freaking out internally. I was tryna look chill on the outside. But it really wasn’t working. Farah, Nadiah and I started asking each other “wait ok so what are you gonna say to them?!” since we were the last 3 in line, we literally asked each other this question a million times. None of us knew what to say. It was all blank. While queuing we also overheard their korean staff (speaking in korean) to make the line move faster (whaaaaaat) cos they were bored? I hope we were hearing things- but I doubt that.
So the boys sat down according to this order- dojoon, jaehyeong, woosung, hajoon. Dojoon was an absolute ball of sunshine, he was so loud and cheery. It was so contagious. Jaehyeong was WAY too smiley, I have nothing but heart eyes for him, seriously. Woosung looked so good. I just- he just looked so chill and cool. I- my heart- Then hajoon. He’s the absolute sweetest, just sitting there being a sweetheart ugh massive sigh.
I was so nervous I simply couldn’t remember my entire experience with them, but here are some of the highlights with each of them:
Dojoon
You seriously cannot help but feel comfortable around him. He’s just so cheerful and you’d feel obliged to match his energy- completely no complains though aghhh! He signed on the right of my scrapbook, where he was supposed to. Then he saw the post-it note that I had stuck at the left side of the book, written “hello my name is qian” in cursive. He was like “oh can I write there?” *points to the left of the notebook” and I said “sure please do!” he wrote “hello my name is dojoon” in cursive and I was like “wow your handwriting is nicer than mine!” He deadass said “of course!”. I was thrown off but ended up replying “you’re good at everything” to which he literally beamed at me *cues awwww in sunglasses*
Jaehyeong
I thought people were exaggerating when they said they that jeff was so good looking that they lost their shit. You seriously won’t know how that feels until you SEE HIM IRL. I was so so so mesmerised by his looks I couldn’t even remember what I said to him. He kept smiling and laughing prettily the entire time. I asked if he was tired from tour and he said “oh, no no no” in his cute little way (you’d know) and I told him his English really improved. He laughed and said thank you. So I had post-it bunnies sticking out of the notebook (& I chose them because I secretly felt like each of the bunnies signified each member). idk why the fuck- but I was so comfortable around him that I told him that that tall bunny was him. I feel stupid, yes, I’m well aware, thanks. Of all the things in the world I could have said- I said “this bunny is you” dear lord please help me.
Woosung
My entire universe. He was so laid back (but tbh it may even have come off as cold hmm). I told him I was from Singapore & I think that picked his interest- because he immediately said “oh cool! I really want to visit Singapore” and he repeated it multiple times on his own accord (so I’m convinced he really wants to!) i had to cut his excitement in order to talk abt something else lol so I talked to him a little more and when I was about to be asked to leave I deadass looked at him in the eyes and said “Sammy” he looked at me, and I pointed to him and whispered “smoke less ok” I only caught his laughed before I had to move on......
Hajoon
The last of the 4. I swear this is absolutely his era- his blond hair looks nothing short of amazing up close. I honestly can’t remember what we talked about because half the time I just rlly wanted to squish his cheeks (altho mine was way chubbier than his- so wHO AM I TO SQUISH HIS). But at the end I also asked him if he was tired from the tour. His eyes shot up from signing my book and VERY SMILEY & CHEERFULLY SAID “Oh... No! I’m not tired! Because of you guys”. & that, my friends, was instant K.O. Hajoon 1, Qian 0. Mmhmm
After signing, we went back to join the line to take our photos together with the boys. It happened so damn quickly- LITERALLY “with a blink, shot shot” and it was over....
To sum up this experience:
it was extremely short- but absolutely worth it meeting the boys up close. It was my first experience and I told myself it will be my only. But after meeting them for myself- my stand has wavered..
My takeaway:
Go to special event PREPARED. Memorise what you want to tell the boys, rehearse what you want to do. Be more prepared than you have ever been for any formal presentations that you’ve gone through in your life. Because eventually when you get there you’d be completely star struck (I speak for all of us) and you’d freeze and forget it all. You’d be lucky if you remember to breathe - honestly.

once you get around to listening to lover what did you think !!! im v curious on your opinions about it heh
thank u for wanting my opinion. i thought i was gonna make it a brief review thingy but i cannot be brief for the life of me. i’m sorry. anyway,
i’mthankful it’s a long album because based on me! i knew i’d like it. not thatme! is a masterpiece or anything but it’s brighter and more fun than herprevious era which i Did Not like. i know reputation is, taylor swift history-wise, important. it’san album she did no press for and allowed the songs speak for themselves and i really like this idea and the sentiment behind it, i’m just Not A Fan of the execution. edgy taylor swift doesn’twork for me. don’t blame me slaps tho. i’ll probably compare these songs to alot of reputation, sorry.
anyway. loveris a more colorful album and probably my favorite pop album from ms. swift, i’m not good at like. Grading things so i won’t be like ‘this is a 8.5 kind of album’ cause like. i don’t know numbers? what you need to know is that it’s a good album. let’s gowith the tracks:
may i add that this is not coming from a taylor swift fan, however i have several friends who are into taylor swift so it’s hard not to get the slightest 2nd hand interest.
i forgot that you existed: was excited as soon as it started! theproduction is lighter and less dramatic. i feel like contrary to reputationwhere she was kind of obsessed with the people who hurt her and betrayed her inthe previous years, this song is a nice way of letting go. a nicer, yet stillkind of shady, revenge by being like. Oh. You Mean Nothing To Me Anymore.
fave lyrics: “it isn’t love, it isn’thate, it’s just indifference so.. yeah.”
cruel summer: the chorus…. amazing! i remember reallydisliking her reputation singles, especially “ready for it” because it was veryunnecessarily dark and, again – in my opinion – dark and edgy doesn’t work fortaylor swift.  BUT, rfi had that chorusthat escaped the intense beats and kind of went back a little to her 1989 eraand it’s the one thing from the song that i actually tolerated. and i feel likeall of cruel summer is song that fits the melody of the rfi chorus better thanrfi itself. does that make sense?
fave lyrics:the entire bridge but especially: “i don’twanna keep secrets just to keep you” and “i love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?”
lover: 11/10. fucked me the fuck up. it’s a song aboutlove that isn’t a still-too-fresh-and-uncertain love, or some angsty love. it’sjust love. she’s properly in love and is singing about it with somuch care and certainty. it’s a happy song about the one she loves and how could i hate it? bestsong in the entire album. probably my 2nd fave taylor swift song ofall time
favelyrics: “with every guitar string scar onmy hand” so much is being said in this one fucking line. i absolutelyfucking love it. the fact that this song was 100% written by her is a big plus.
the man: honestly was kinda stressed about the kind of discoursethis one could cause, especially cause of the lack of addressing the whitenessof it all but idk. this is her ownexperience so how much can we ask from her? and also in many ways this feels like 5years late but i’m not gonna complain about this. better late than never (andshe has addressed sexism in her songs before so it’s not like she’s just starting at feminism). she’s made severalpoints w this one and it sounds good.
favelyrics: the part where she’s like “what if i was bragging about the models i’mfucking?” cause like. girl is aware of aspecific group in her fandom and i appreciate the little nod (it being real ornot)
archer: love the lyrics. this was like. the 3rdsong from this album that she released and i was So Relieved to actually SEEsongwriter taylor swift coming through. it’s a great song about self hatred andreflection, etc. but i’ve listened to it enough times to know i’m gonna be skippingthis one when i’m listening to this album.
favelyrics: “screaming ‘who could ever leaveme darling?’ but who could stay?”
i think he knows: the chorus and her vocals… *chef’s kiss*. loveit. cute crush song. more mature yet fun style that works for her.
fave lyrics:all of the chorus.
miss americana: i get it, i see the politics of it all but. i’mgonna skip it. soz
favelyrics: “my team is losing, battered andbruising i see the high fives between the bad guys”
paper rings: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS. again, pure, happy, bubbly, unashamed love. a love bop that i adore.
fave lyrics:“i like shiny things but i’d marry youwith paper rings / i hate accidents except when we went from friends to this”
corneliastreet: it’s a nostalgic song that i can’t decide if it’s exactly abreak-up song or not. i like to think the “sacrednew beginning / that became my religion” lyrics are a nod to her bestreputation song aka don’t blame me. i’m so-so on this one but it’s definitely notbad, don’t think i’ll be skipping it for now.
favelyrics: “that’s the kinda heartbreak timecould never mend / (…) and baby i get mystified by how this city scream yourname”
death by a thousand cuts: eh? it’s nice and soft and sad-ish but. idk.not right now - since the album is still pretty fresh to me - but i’ll probablystart skipping this one eventually.
favelyrics: “you said it was a great love, one for the ages / but if the story’s over why am I still writing pages?”
bondon boy: i am so sorry for every londoner that had tolisten to this one. i could hear it being offensive as soon as she startedsaying those words. it sounds nice and fun but jesus christ taylor. it’s likesomeone from her label said “you gottamake it clear you’re fucking that joe dude or your album won’t sell” andtaylor immediately googled ‘british slang’ and wrote this song.
fave lyrics:“but something happened i heard himlaughing / i saw the dimples first and then i heard the accent” i’m asimple phannie. i hear the word dimples i think of dan
soon you’ll get better: bro. was not ready. you can hear thepain and fear in her voice. the chorus kind of reminds me of “never grow up”(aka my fave taylor swift song), etc. the sad, almost hopeless addition of “cause you have to” is so heartbreaking. it’sa personal and gorgeous yet sad song, and she goes back to her country roots for this one,so that’s nice. absolutely beautiful.
fave lyrics:hard to choose but “you like the nicernurses you make the best of a bad deal / i just pretend it isn’t real / i’llpaint the kitchen neon, i’ll brighten up the sky / i know i’ll never get itthere’s not a day that i won’t try” i hate, hate, the notion ofromanticizing a sad and scary situation like this one, and i think i understandthis as less of romanticizing and more of sympathizing with, cause i’ve alsobee in this situation with my family – but because it was just a few days agothat phil revealed his father’s battle with cancer, i couldn’t help but thinkof him too and how much he must have feared for his dad while still trying to keep it together for everyone around him.
false god: love the sax. i know i will fully love thissong at some point. i know it. i’m just not there yet. i like the parts when she has torush her words. i’ll get there with this one.
favelyrics: “they all warned us about timeslike this / they say the road gets hard and you get lost”
you need to calm down: fun, boppy, cute. i get what shewas going for and appreciate it. it’s a more carefree pop song and i’m okaywith it. not unskippable though.
fave lyrics:“and i ain’t tryna mess with your self expressionbut i’ve learned a lesson that stressing and obsessing bout somebody else is nofun”
afterglow: i don’t know yet. probably one i’ll skip. notbad, i don’t think there’s a song in this album that is necessarily Bad, butthis one is just not really memorable.
fave lyrics:don’t have one actually. soz
me!: definitely not a masterpiece BUT introduced usto this era which is probably her best pop era. i loved the absolute changefrom the reputation era, bringing back colors, bringing back fun, introducing amore politically active taylor swift, etc. i also like the idea that she knowsthat this is not her best work but she knew that if she was gonna make a catchyradio friendly pop song, she’d make one that’s about self love, etc.
fave lyrics: i’m a simple girl, “me e e e, o o o oh”
it’s nice to have a friend: this folk-y vibe? works? is thisfolk? sorry if im being dumb. but it has a lonely vibe, it’s kind of really sadin a way, but it’s lovely at the same time.
fave lyrics:“something gave you the nerve / to touchmy hand”
daylight: a song about letting go and forgiving herselffor her past mistakes and learning to focus on the good parts of her life, morespecifically her lover. like new year’s eve was to reputation, this is a nicesong to wrap this album.
fave lyrics:“you are what you love”

10/26/19 3:40 am - Inventing A New Ranking System For People
Alright I don’t know if it’s sexist since I’m bi (LOL Andi would hate when I called shit gay and say that it’s okay because I’m half-gay).
But I did a lot of brainstorming and wanted to show off my new rating scale.
1-10 is trash. We used to parody it by saying it was more efficient to just do Binary where 0 is you wouldn’t smash and 1 is you would.
There’s just no depth there.
The crazy-hot chart is at least a little better because it’s got two factors you’re assessing.
So Here’s what I’ve got for you today.
I spent that one night at Darlin’s watching her stream and drawing this picture because I kept imagining what it would be like to write down all my feelings and have her read about how much I loved her and how highly I thought about her and maybe she’d take me back. I came up with this scale, but didn’t draw that part of this page out until just now.
I’m glad I’m writing the official scale part and all the numbers now that I don’t really want Andi back. It all feels more honest, though the opinions haven’t really changed. One of the things I said to Andi when I was breaking off our friendship was that I felt shitty like I was manipulating her back into a relationship and not being real friends with her.
Honestly I don’t know if I could control myself to try to be platonic friends with her now. Probably not, I’m tryna fuck like everyone I hang out with LMAO.
But anyway, Andi and I loved DnD and so that was the inspiration for this scale. Forreal here it is:
Tumblr media
So here’s the rundown. You’ve got your normal 6 stats on the left, Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
It helps to fill these out as well, because then you have 12 points of assessment.
For example, Andi’s digestive issues means that there is no fucking WAY she’d be able to pass a constitution check on poison, since she can barely eat most regular foods; hence she has a -2 in that stat. It also helps to remember that when you’re doing real stats that 18 is like supergenius and 20 is literally unachievable naturally so there’s no way you ought to give a real person much higher than like a 16 or 17 intellect.
Okay now here’s the fun part. My made up stats are Hobbies, Spontaneity, Mental Health, Sex, Beauty, and Status/Refinement.
Hobbies are what I consider to be the strength of a relationship. It’s how much you guys have in common with the things you like to do. On these stats I think it’s more natural to fill them out to a max score of 20. Andi gets two points off for not liking drugs and not liking fucked up shit from 4chan or videos where she gets grossed out like Me!Me!Me! but she was damn near perfect in terms of wanting to do stuff I wanted to do. Drinking, video games, sex? Yeah. got it.
Spontaneity is a subjective stat. One person’s SPO 20 is probably another person’s SPO 1, after all. You’d want someone in your life to be as crazy and willing to go out and do wild shit as you are, I’d presume. Or at least I do, which is why in terms of having Andi ready to go on road trip adventures across the country with me she didn’t quite hold up. I’d give her a -2 but she did fuck me in a parking lot the first night I met her. Really thought about giving her a flat stat just for that, but overall I think it’s negative.
Mental Health isn’t just a category for me to take a jab at Andi for having depressive issues, I fucking swear I’m not that much of a dick. Mental Health, or MHP, is a throwback to that Crazy-Hotness chart/meme/adage. You really do have to take into account if someone isn’t going to slice your ass with razor blades when they fuck you lmfao, or if they’re going to fight with you or fuck your friends any chance they get. Some people are just crazy and now here’s a stat for that. But alright yes, I am an asshole and took off points because Andi was depressed so much lmfao.
Sex + Beauty  I like these stats being their own categories for the same reason that INT and WIS are different stats. Raw beauty is your natural 1-10 scale of hotness. Of course, it’s more accurate because it includes .5 decimals by going 1-20. I’d give Andi a 7.5 on my hotness scale, where 10s are like Natalie Portman, Britney Spears ~Toxic era, and Kimberly from the Power Rangers. So in DnD Beauty she gets a 15. She had perfect tits, a great ass, a tight stomach, a pretty smile, and legs for fucking days, man. Pretty fucking hot.  For sex, I’d say you should rate someone on a scale from 1-18 normally, just because an 18 is the highest stat you can roll naturally before increasing your stats with feats. But then you can continue to add 1 or 2 if they actually have some mindblowing skills. Like if they give the best head you’ve ever gotten or something they can break into that best-in-the-world territory that a 19/20 stat in DnD is supposed to represent.  That being said, Andi was one of my favorite fucks. She didn’t have unbelievable stamina on top and didn’t give a legendary blowjob. But she was ALWAYS ready to fuck. And so enthusiastic. And so sexy. And kinky. The only area she loses points from rolling the nat 18 is for kissing and for whatever was causing the puss flavor.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I really honestly think it was just because we were too lazy to shower most of the weekend though so I didn’t want to take a whole second point off for that.
And so that leaves us with Status (/Refinement) Status is a somewhat more nebulous stat, but I wanted to add a stat in for how classy someone is. Does she come from a rich family? Does she have money? Does she make more money than you? How is her taste in music and culture and art? Would you feel shitty not taking her out to a fancy restaurant? Like sometimes you have to acknowledge that you’re tryna fuck a hot piece of trailer trash. It’s fine, man. Like Mungo Jerry said In The Summertime, “If her daddy’s rich, take her out for a meal / If her daddy’s poor, just do what you feel.” It’s not a bad thing to not be classy.  For starters I liked that Andi made a little more money than me, but she wasn’t rich enough to take me in and be my sugar momma 😂 I also didn’t think she had Great taste in anime and music, so she ends up in an above-average-but-still-kinda-middling stat.
And that covers it!
I hope this doesn’t make me the worst person ever. But I might start reviewing all the people I sleep with like this. I think it really demonstrates their appeal a lot more than anything else I’ve heard of.
Let me know if I’m the biggest piece of shit ever for this so I know not to do it though lmfao.
Also Andi, if you ever read this for some reason I hope you’re... flattered? I guess? I really hope you meant what you said when you told me I could write about you because... this is probably a lot. I really don’t think I was out of your league though, and when you looked at your porn pics of us and said you couldn’t believe your ass looked so good I hope you know you always looked great.
💕 It really was fun. Unblock me so we can be friends again. It’d be cool to chill now that I’m in a better headspace I think.
I was thinking about calling you when I finally got to this part in my catching up, but I want to give you your space. Forever, I guess. You always said you were the bad bitch Ex’s And Oh’s girl who would have your exes chasing you to the end of the Earth and I’m not about that chase lmao.  But you were worth it. You were worth a lot more, to be honest lol, I wish I had gotten my shit together before we broke up instead of after. But you really convinced me to treat myself right, and take better care of myself in a way that nobody outside of my family has and you mean a lot to me for that. So I hope you’re doing well and I don’t want to do anything to fuck that up if you are, so I’m not gonna be that ex that calls you out of the blue that says “oh are you ready to be friends again, sorry for that shit I said.” Also because I’m not. But if you wanted to be friends anyway that’d be rad.  💕 💕

5 ways rap has influenced your life.
“She's dead! She's gone forever, and YOU killed her!” cried out an angry old hip-hop head at a young man cruising by bumping new music labeled “mumble rap.” In This colorful age of constant change, there is no room for ignorance and discrimination of art, it is all after all, art. Leaning on being a sport today, rap and hip hop communities have divided  themselves by confusing themselves with an old school new school divide. Old school considering “good hip hop and rap” to only be music done by the pioneers, new school being more attached to a feel or vibe of the musical context. While many rap veterans did drop the first wave of  influence, nothing will ever go unchanged, especially social expression outlets. That being said we have to understand that the older fans relate so loyally to older music, because it paints memories of a very alive, important time in their lives.
Tumblr media
In this listicle I will cover the significance of raps influence on American culture.  I will go over some history of hip-hop, and its political influence that has influenced the nation culture deeply. We will touch on rap not only being a genre, but a verb as well. We will cover it's subcultures and the competitive side of the art that has kept this genres heart beating.
The corporate world catalyzed the culture into economical prevalence, in turn officially commercialized rap. With rap on the rise due somewhat to corporate influence, the topics began to degrade and became financially arrogant. The newest artists were getting views based on flashy appearances and being antagonistically controversial, not for honed skills.  Like a blessing in disguise, this allowed bad examples to be displayed and criticized, suddenly,we were able to truly appreciate skilled Artists again. One could understand how the older generations opinions became  judgmental, then stagnant as they fell into the generational cycle and fulfilled their destiny. We must also consider that older listeners are generally less familiar with technological advances and therefore decline to discover newer rhyme that isn't negatively publicized.
When Nas label the genre “dead” in 2006 many older fans were confused: they simply couldn't accept the fact that culture (and along with culture, music) does not stay the same forever; it outgrows us; it outruns us. Furthermore sub genres that confuse older crowds are what make up a lot of prevalent music today. That being said, rap has had some awful productions in recent years, experimenting with new technology, motivations, styles and of course corporate influence. The record labels saw financial opportunities and began taking over artistic moves and filtering genuine content as if they designed the artists. As time goes on new artists emerge that remind us what great hip hop or rap are.
Tumblr media
Here are 5 reasons Hip-Hop is alive, well, and actually doing better than ever before.
Rap is a verb.                                                                                                           performance, a sport, an activity a past time, rap has been considered all of these things at some point or another. It was a way to express or deliver a message to others that conveys energy intelligence, and creativity. Writer Doran Rosenberg talks about how hip hops basics evolved culturally and organically. People rapped for the love of expression, to explore uncharted artistic depths, and to paint a beautiful portrait with words. Then unfortunately Rap was exploited by corporations seeking financial success over artistic quality. This is the main reason the genre has struggled lyrically over the last few years with the addition of some psycho social implications that began to shift the reason artists began making music in the first place. While people began wanting to do it for the glory, riches and fame,  the love for the craft and unique self expression became unpopular sadly.
           .https://www.elitedaily.com/music/music-news/critics-are-crying-the-                 decline-of-rap-is-hip-hop-really-dead.
     2. Rap is a part of america's political history and a beacon for social issues
Rap is not only is an artistic venue, but also serves as a political beacon for inner city  communities to express things going on that the rest of the world, doesn't see. On theodysseyonline.com Bailey Marshal speaks on the old rap coming back threw new, rappers like Kendrick Lamar, who proved rap is merely a reflection of society and a true form of art.
https://www.theodysseyonline.com/why-hip-hop-isnt-dead
Lamar is one of the few rappers in a very very long time to use the power of politics threw his works. Comparable to N.W.A. in the way they reflected on police brutality and social problems when racial injustice in Ghetto communities began to catch attention during the 1980′s. Most of the country had no idea these issues were happening until  N.W.A made The problems public in 1988 with the song “Fuck The Police,” loud, offensive and boisterous but these Hero were actually doing a great job of exposing police racial profiling African and Hispanics Americans in the inner cities. It wasn't until the 1991 police beating of Rodney King that was broadcaster that these issues had gained more attention, later. Hip Hop gave us a voice that we could raise when the racial discrimination was a bigger problem, setting the beginning mark of a revolutionary time in history for many Americans. Americans cultural involvement in rap is deep rooted within freedom of speech and the reform of racial and social injustice. So why how could it die when it has nurtured the american society in so many social ways.
Tumblr media
3. Rap will live on because of the social side of it.
Rappers have not always been the best role models, and beginning in 2000 the confusion of rap started with the transition of the era that affected the sport almost totally. Overly Explicit shock material or irrelevant topics began arising to only receive attention as quickly as possible. While some music did seem outrageous we still must understand that some artist were only attempting to convey intense strong feelings into words, not worried about making the listeners uncomfortable or offended, like Eminem. Many rappers around this time also fueled career off rivalry like Soldier boy, and 50 cent, taking shots at any already successful artist simply to stir up fan bases of the known artist to create controversy about them,  generating free advertisement for them. These rappers seemed desperate for financial success and fame even though some did already have tasteful artistry to them. Angered by the perpetuated success of some of these braggadocios bonafide clowns, slowly, but surely the minds that Tupac Shakur spoke of, began to spark up, into the world. These heroes began checking new foo foo artist, reminding us of the important values of this poetic craft.
Kendrick Lamar single handedly reignite the passion for hip hop with a message to rappers of today to get up and realize the loss of control within the industry as an artists. Kendrick re raised the bar in the song “Control”. He compares himself to the greats and calls out all the top players in today's hip hop industry and even a few friends on the song with him!. Stating that we must not forget that hip hop is a sport and everyone should know, right now,  hes the king of it.
Tumblr media
“I heard the barbershops be in great debates all the time, 'Bout who's the best MC: Kendrick, Jigga, and Nas, Eminem, André 3000; the rest of y'all new n*ggas just new n*ggas, don't get involved! And I ain't rockin' no more designer shit! White T’s and Nike Cortez, this red Corvettes anonymous,I'm usually homeboys with the same n*ggas I’m rhymin' with, But this is hip-hop, and them n*ggas  should know what time it is, And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake,Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller, I got love for you all, but I'm tryna murder you n*ggas! Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n*ggas They don't wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you n*ggas.
What is competition? I'm tryna raise the bar high!”
This is important to understand because the craft is still so sought after now by more people than ever. we could never dismiss it because we have grown to love it as a nation just like we love our controversy and sports.
4. Rap is poetry
Tumblr media
Teachers refer to Shakespeare in school to understand language. As time passes we find more monumental lyricist like 2pac. Pacs impact on the world went as far as schools quoting and studying his works to teach,  like we have before with Shakespeare. Colleges around the world offers entire courses on Tupac Shakur's work today. In this article by Micah Mattix, he talks about how rap is not generally considered poetry because it's grammatically incorrect and it “has to have music behind it”. He goes on to say that rap is less serious than poetry and is more profane. All these things said are entirely false and are refuted in the comments by multiple people defending the poetic craft. Comparing other artist like Beck and Bob Dylan to poetry, writing it out in sonnet form to show that it reflections of poetry. Consider the following words from Beck:
Walking to the other side
With the Devil trying to take my mind
And my soul’s just a silhouette
On the ashes of a cigarette
Illusions never fake their lives
Trick cards fool the eyes
Carry zeros over till they add up
Bury tears in the chapters you shut
Sometimes the jail can’t chain the cell
And the rain’s too plain to tell
All alone by a barren well
Scarecrow’s only scaring himself
Consider the following words from Bob Dylan:
In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an’ they gave me a lethal dose
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn
“Come in,” she said, “I’ll give you shelter from the storm”
https://www.theamericanconservative.com/prufrock/is-rap-poetry/
     5. Rap could never expire because its saved on file
Hip-hop has been influencing pop culture for years. As lingo becomes more socially accepted, the crossover appeal is inevitable for rap to get the recognition it deserves.
In 2000 Lil’ Wayne coined the word “bling bling” to the oxford dictionary, forever validating his permanent mark on the rap game. Then the next year Beyonce added the word “bootylicious” to the dictionary. Although Snoop Dogg was the originator of the word in 1992, destiny's child took the term to the top with the release of their song that still is one of their highest selling hits to date. Unless someone can destroy every single copy of the dictionary physical and digital then maybe they can put an end to this rap thing but unless that happens hip hop will be right here just like revolutions in history textbooks are. https://www.xxlmag.com/news/2016/05/hip-hop-words-in-oxford-english-dictionary/
Rap is an art form and when is put on display its subject to judgment and an interpretation from the side that is appreciative and the side that isn't. Our parents aren't totally wrong about new bad music, but they need to understand hip hop and rap will never die, for it has only began forming major sub genres like rock formed punk, and jazz formed acid. More and more people are becoming involved in the rap culture every day. The culture involves itself within our society more and more everyday . Weather it be politics or social issues, rap ingrains itself into us organically and electronically. The concept is comparable to saying that singing is dying, or comedy is dying, it just doesn't make any sense at all. Hip hop and rap will remain strong in our societies all over the world, continuing to cycle through history as it has since it  began.  Because rap culture is socially tied to us it creates our history, our texts and our lives. it is a self sufficient competitive art and therefore will forever evolve with new topics,  problems, and people. Music is simply a reflection of the high energy human existence.  regardless of its spelling, and bold topics, hip hop and rap will remain abrasive to political foul play, acting as a beacon for untapped issues that the genres people will never let it slide by unnoticed. So to all those embittered old hip hop heads that idolized artist they grew up, please understand that you don't understand, change in inevitable and if it wasn't, everything would be the same. Variety is the spice of life my friend, until you understand that, please go find a cave to cry in, But remember,  “I ain’t mad atcha”-Tupac Shakure.

Which book is your least favourite? again, love em all
Which is your least favorite movie? ooh you know what...even though 4 through 8 were downers and kinda lost that cute whimsical charm of the first three i couldnt say i particularly disliked them, but i guess they’re my least faves by default
What is your favourite quote? literally anything that left the lips of Fred and George, or else the classic ‘There’s no need to call me sir, professor”

I mean I read the series way back and I was really young so I never really shipped anyone that wasnt expressly being shipped by the story itself so, I guess Ginny/Harry, Hermione/Ron. Although, I did once write a fic, my only HP fic actually, about Harry and Luna getting poisoned by someone at Slughorn’s party. It was meant to be about some crazy shit happening and them spending the next morning tryna figure out what they did while under a spell and I never finished it but I’m pretty sure some sleazy stuff was gonna be implied to have Gone Down so...I guess Harry/Luna kinda?
Is there a movie that you liked more than the book? nope, though I did always hate how they left our nick’s death day party and peeves. the ghosts where just so underwritten in the movies tbh
If you could make your own House, what would be the traits? okay so I was gonna make jokes and say like ‘get laid, get paid, gatorade’ or something dumb like that but honestly...I have 100% thought about it before and the traits would be Compassion, Courtesy and Unfaltering wit
What would your Amortentia smell like? Mmm I gotta say vanilla extract, fresh tennis ball tubes that have just been opened, fresh paint, burning rubber and warm pastry

Hello!
Here’s our weekly wrap up from the WRFB crew =)
Ginny’s Updates:
Hi everyone, it’s been a great week. I went to go see My Brother, My Brother, and Me, and The Adventure Zone, and I even made it to the Ren Faire! I’m getting ready for a few book clubs and I”m trying to work my way through a few things.
Currently Reading:
Love a La Mode by Stephanie Kate Strohm: This is one of the books I’m reading for a book club. It’s about two teens that get accepted into a cooking school of some kind. I’m not super feeling it, but I am laughing that it was suggested by the person in the book club who would most hate having to read this book if someone else suggested it. (She somehow didn’t realize what the book would be about)
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson: I literally just started this so I’m not really sure what it’s about. Reading the summary it sounds like our main character is super magic and is gonna be hunted down, but so far she just got married and does not seem happy that her husband is super attractive (mostly because she’s worried she doesn’t have much to offer, obviously this will be proved wrong).
Finished Reading:
Mine to Posses by Nalini Singh: This is book 4 of the Psy-Changeling series. Probably not my favorite. Clay and Talin have a slightly strange dynamic, and I kind of felt like the personal growth for both of them had weird timings. That being said, I love the plotlines that are moving between the books. 3.5/5
Breathless by Beverly Jenkins: This is the second book in the Old West Series. I read the first book a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. I liked the two characters in this book. Portia knows what she wants and is going to make sure she gets it. Kent has been humbled in his life and also knows what he wants. I will say this book struggles a little with telling rather than showing. The last few chapters of the book covered a lot of ground but it all felt like way too much. 3.5/5
Half a King by Joe Abercrombie: I felt a little leery about this book at first but it ended up being a solid read. Yarvi was going to go into religious service (basically) and ended up becoming a king. He also somehow manages to not do that well and becomes a slave and was determined to somehow get his throne back. The story brings in a delightful cast of characters and was in generally crazy enjoyable. 4/5
Artificial Condition by Martha Wells: This is the second book of the Murderbot series and boy is it great (do we have a review for this one?). I’m trying to figure out how to write this without spoiling. Murderbot is trying to find out about something that happened in their past. Murderbot continues to have an absolutely delightful personality and I love their point of view on the world. This book did a fun job of showing some of the flaws in their thought process, while also showing how fucking good they are at certain things. 5/5
Partials by Dan Wells: Post-apocalyptic world, humans created superhumans, a virus got sent out and suddenly a bunch of humans die and infants can’t survive. Rules have been put in place so that all women of a certain age have to be pregnant and yet this isn’t treated like a huge fucking deal. A teenage girl decides she’s the one who knows how to create a cure and goes on an adventure. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of the teenager saves the world and while parts of this were pretty unique, a lot of it felt pretty rote. 3/5
The Trouble With Christmas by Amy Andrews: We received this book in return for a free and honest review. so that’s what I’ll be doing. Suzanne is an artist who is escaping to a small town to try and get her muse back. Through quirky events (read: her not having enough of a backbone to let her mother know she needed a break) she ends up fake dating the surly Rancher Jake.  Also it’s set in Christmas. Think this is basically a Hallmark movie. I’ll be writing a review.
Paused
After the Flood by Kassandra Montag: I ended up setting this one down. It’s an arc we received and honestly I’m just struggling with it. The book is really really dark and while there’s hope in it, I just found it a little too difficult to push myself into reading it. At this point you can probably guess that I read a lot. I can usually tell if I”m not feeling a book if I keep finding ways to do things that aren’t reading. Which is what happened here, so I set it down. I might pick it back up, but it needed to at least go on hold.
Linz’s Updates
Well I was TRYING to celebrate fall’s arrival but it’s 90 degrees. Climate change is REAL.
What Linz read:
Recursion by Blake Crouch: Reviewed by Ginny (https://willreadforbooze.com/2019/06/07/drunk-review-recursion-by-blake-crouch/), read by many others. A cop and a scientist try to figure out why a mysterious affliction is infecting victims with memories of lives they never lived. Total mindfuck, really enjoyed it, 4 stars.
The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess: Perfectly acceptable novel about a 25yo girl having a quarterlife crisis in the ’80s. The writing was fine, the climax and resolution were a little too pat.
War Girls by Tochi Onyebuchi: UM WOW. JFC. WOW.
Bitter Orange by Claire Fuller: Uh, summer 1969, England, Frances is hired to research a dilapidated historic property for its new owner, along with a glamorous sexy couple. But they’re not all they seem, drama ensues–look, I’m actually a little salty about reading this book because I knew it wasn’t great, I just wanted to see how it resolved, and not much was resolved so now humph.
What Linz is currently reading:
I have The Book of Lost Saints by DJ Older and A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer slated next but I only finished Bitter Orange a few hours ago and I’m pissy so I’m taking a break to work out.
Sam’s Updates
What. A. Week. I feel like I say that every week, but I had my first Tarot reading today, and it sounds like it’s going to lighten up… but maybe not. We’ll see. I also didn’t get much reading done.
What I read this week:
Steeltide by Natalie C. Parker: This is the second book in the Seafire series, which I didn’t enjoy as much as I wanted to, but THIS book. I liked this book much better than the first one, though it was still not stellar. Caledonia is a fierce leading lady and I truly love that. Drunk review coming.
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: This story is about a girl on a pirate ship that can travel through time. Her dad, the captain, is tryna get back to Hawaii so he can save his wife, but it may mean that our lady may cease to exist. I… was right. I am not a big fan of this author. There were a few plot holes I couldnt really get behind and while it was better than other books I’ve read by her, I won’t be continuing with the series.
What I’m currently reading:
The Name of All Things by Jenn Lyons: This is the sequel to The Ruin of Kings a demon, chosen-one story but with such flare that I don’t even care. I’m gonna tell you Book 1’s synopsis. Our main man, Kihrin, in jail, and he’s telling his life story that ended him up where he was. It’s such a well-rounded story. It’s also hysterical. This is book 2 and I’m LOVING it.
Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart: This is a YA story about a world where women have like… zero rights. Our main character has been selected to be a “Grace” which I’m assuming is like a harem for the heir to the throne? We’ll see. Listening on audio and I’ve only just started. Linz wrote a review for this when it came out.
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore: I’ve literally just started this because I needed something to read on my phone while I was bored. I don’t know what it’s about yet.
Minda’s Updates
Amazing weekend. I started nesting aka painting our Pixar-inspired nursery. Any must-do tips for the space?
What Minda finished:
Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner – All the feels story about two completely different sisters growing up in the counterculture 50s-60s era. Civil rights, LGBTQ love story, and psychedelic drugs, and the ties of a Jewish family. Review to come! 4/5 shots
What Minda is reading now:
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia – Reading this one for book club this month! During the Jazz Age, a Cinderella-type Woman in a small Mexican town dreams of more to her life. Then a twist of fate finds her life tied to that of the Mayan god of death and send her on adventure into the Mayan underworld to fight for her life.
On Swift Horses by Shannon Pufahl – Still haven’t actually opened it, so not sure this counts as reading. This novel is historical fiction based on a brother-in-law and sister in the American west.
  Happy Reading!
