#and also while shes more into characters like rin she thinks her character lacks a lot of emotional conflict and sakura is better developed

What do you think hf normal ends relationship between sakura and rin is like? It's my fav end, yet I don't see much discussion outside of the ''Waa too sad" sentiment. Also would you ever write a fic abt it? Hf true end was way too cheery for my taste and felt incredibly forced
honestly, their relationship seems fairly normal, even if Sakura's heart is occupied inward by the loss of Shirou. I don't think I'd have much to write about, since my style of writing melancholy tends more towards characters trying to ignore the inevitable rather than mourning the past
that said, I'm gonna drop a bit of a hot take that kind of arrives at a popular sentiment nonetheless: I think the true end is more tragic than the normal end, and that's why I prefer it
the important figure to remember here is Illya
as a result of the original vn's format, normal end is written explicitly to account for readers who didn't choose to heal Illya and Shirou's relationship over the course of HF, which is why her arc receives no closure in it. in the story up until that point, Illya is entirely defined by the hurt she gives and receives
the true end closes Illya's arc by finally showing her doing something unambiguously selfless, caring for her younger brother, and then dying for it while Shirou is left to realise how much he just lost. she finally got her brother, he finally got his big sister, and now she's dying for him just like he tried to do for her
I wouldn't call it a "redemption arc" or anything, but it draws Shirou and Illya into parallel with Sakura and Rin in a way I quite enjoy!
it's also important because Illya is a direct connection to Kiritsugu and the man he actually was in a way Saber isn't willing to be
while I don't have any sort of distaste for the normal end (I like it, even!) it's characterised by a deliberate lack of closure that would feel poorly served by any sort of follow-up. Shirou devoted himself to one person and now Sakura is left to do the same alone

Annon-Guy: Slightly off topic, but how do you feel about slapstick scenes in manga and anime in general (same gender, male on female and female on male).
I ask this because Train and Svene get into a LOT of comedic beatdowns with each other and recover in the next scene compared to when they get hurt for REAL. Even when Eve clocks people in the head, with criminals they get knocked out, but with the doctor after she was injured by that gunslinger, he just gets a lump on his head. Even when Kyoko tries to kiss Train, he clocks her on the head for even attempting to do so. Granted, this is mostly in the manga, but still.
You see, people take it too seriously, calling it full on abuse and saying it normalizes it, regardless if the relationship is platonic or romantic.
This is especially prevalent with Harsh Tsundere characters, mostly female ones who attack the male love for perverted reasons or out of jealousy, whether intentional or not for comedy purposes. In that case, it's a Double Standard as they're called.
Ultimately, I know we're not supposed to take it seriously, but I wanted to know your thoughts regardless.
I think it based on the context and the frequency of the action. In case of Train and Sven, it’s part of how their dynamic, like how siblings often fight. In case of Eve, it’s because she was having a nightmare and suddenly saw a foreign face when she opened her eyes, so she reacted reflexively. There was even a scene where she apologized about it. In short, they have a rightful reason to do it, and readers know that it would be acceptable to a certain extent if applied to real life.
In the case of Tsundere, it often stems from jealousy or is purely an expression. It can be cute if used for a reasonable number of times, but it’s obviously the opposite. It’s eventually become a cliché that no longer has the desired effect, and people grow annoyed about it. While we all get that it’s for comedy, watching it is tiresome. It’s like you have to watch the same youtube ad for 10 minutes in order to finish an episode. And since people cannot relate to the main character putting up with it despite doing nothing wrong, they tend to be more critical about it.
Unfortunately, this type of behavior is usually meant for female characters. Therefore, you gonna see hate aimed at female character more than male ones. It’s not entirely double standard, but rather a consequence of a stereotype in writing. Adding to the flaws, these tsundere characters are not commonly very well written. They are mostly flat, overly dependent on the male characters or take him as the only purpose to do whatever. With prominent traits of a tsundere be considered annoying, if they lacked redeeming quality, it would make it easier for people to hate them.
A good example of Tsundere is Rin Tohsaka from Fate series. While she might have been physical/harsh at some point to Emiya, she has other things about her as a character that make people love to see her on screen. I usually avoid series with this type of characters, so I can't recall any bad examples, but I'm sure that there are plenty. I have seen much backlash in this topic. Sometimes they are justified, sometimes they are just another thing for haters to bash about the character in question. But as I have said, if the writing were good in general, people would not be so against it. Even when the series is just the type for recreational purposes, the one with barely any plot at all, there are still certain standards.
Good character writing is also a reason I really love Black Cat, despite its simple, typical shonen plot. Eve could have easily been written as those Tsundere commonly seen in anime or been used for fanservice, but the author chose not to and built her character neatly.

How come the characterization of Illya is drastically different between HF and Fate Route? What exactly changes the way she acts between the two
oh this is a fun one
so i would start by not ruling out the possibility that nasu just wrote her different for whatever reason (e.g. developing as a writer by the time he got round to the third route)
characters changing a bit between routes is not uncommon, such as archers relative lack of focus on shirou in non-UBW routes, but I'd argue thats quite explainable by the circumstances. gil's lack of focus on saber in UBW compared to Fate is less so.
i think the best point of reference for illya's situation is kirei, in the sense that he plays a certain role in the Fate route and a rather different one in HF and as a result he comes off quite differently, although to some extent this is attributable to different events causing him to act differently
with that said, the main influence on illya's behaviour here is her interactions with shirou
firstly, he meets her earlier in HF on day 5 instead of 7. i would argue this leads to her somewhat friendlier attitude because she hasn't spent as long waiting for him (and yes, she almost certainly was waiting there for him on day 5 and 6 in Fate route)
secondly, shirou is also a bit more lenient with her. part of this is arbitrary and comes with the route - his interest in and sympathy towards illya is part of what causes rin to not ally with him this time and i would say it's comparable to his differing interest in each main heroine being the cause of initial route divergences
another part of this is a result of kiritsugu's past w/ the einzberns being more important to him this time round, since he discussed it with kirei
so instead of pressuring illya to give up on the grail war like he does in Fate, causing her to run off in their second meeting, he instead broaches the topic of kiritsugu, which causes illya to reveal she wants to kill him, and then makes her even more surprised by his kindness when he comes to meet her again
there are several little changes like this that make it more plausible for them to develop a better relationship earlier on and lead to a third meeting
you may notice that illya warms up to shirou more gradually in HF, whereas in Fate she swaps to his side immediately after trying to kill him
this makes more sense if you think of it in terms of the holy grail war - in both cases she starts living in his house after berserker dies, but in HF Saber is also gone by the time that illya approaches him at night while he's thinking about whether to try and save sakura
a lot of illya's hostility towards shirou she considers necessary as part of fulfilling her role as a master - but if shirou no longer is one then she doesn't need to kill him any more. and the same applies if she is no longer a master, since her remaining role is just that of the lesser grail
which is relevant to the last question of why she saves him at the end of HF (or more interestingly why she doesn't do so in the normal end)
because you can't get the true end without having a certain relationship score with illya, it implies her intervention is due to the kindness he shows her in their multiple meetings early on
but i think the overall difference between the two routes is regarding the most obvious difference in her characterisation: HF makes it much more obvious that she's actually older and more mature than she appears
its not as if Fate doesn't hint at this but i do think its reasonable to argue that nasu portrayed her inconsistently, wanting the impression of her in Fate to be more focused on her childlike elements in order to have her make a bigger impression in HF
however my attempt at providing an in-universe read on this is simply that its down to how shirou himself sees her
a lot of the narration describing her as childlike is, after all, shirou's narration, and famously somewhat unreliable
his instinct in the Fate route is to treat her as a child he needs to protect, in a similar vein to his initial response to saber but without the subsequent deeper development of their relationship that allows him to come to a proper understanding of her
there are a couple of scenes in HF where it is made clear to shirou that her innocence is to some extent a deliberate act, that she tries to have fun with her situation despite everything because she knows she isn't going to make it out anyway
the implications of this for end of Fate route illya are depressing. she chooses not to reveal this information to shirou because she doesn't want him to worry
she doesn't want to tell him that she's a homunculus because she wants to be a sister to him, rather than the holy grail
thats why the bond they form in HF is more important than in Fate. she tells him that she's not human and wants to kill him and he accepts it and doesn't view her any differently for it
he wants to save her anyway and in return she saves him
it's a wish granted by the holy grail, that's why she asks if shirou really wants to live first, it will only work if he truly wants it
but at the same time its her own wish as well, she abandons her role of being a completely passive mechanism for the grail and does something for her own reasons
she actually allows herself to believe for a moment that anything she does matters, because shirou was able to see a bit beyond her more mercurial outward persona and still thought she had value
god sorry i got a bit off track with this but its helping me realise some stuff i hadn't properly put into words before

Hey!
Last time I asked about anime recommendations and it was nice to add some to my list.
I love your Kakashi art, your Sasori art and I am happy about it, tbh.
When I was younger, I used to like the idea of Kakashi and Tsunade instead of Jiraeya, cause I felt like he waited to long for her and those two are more fierce.
And I also ship Sakura with Sasori and Gaara.
I feel like the pink and red is just so aesthetic and even tho I liked Sakura and Sasuke individually, I wanted to see her with Gaara, cause is also strong, similar to Sasuke but a healed and mature, caring person while Sasuke was heartbroken and focused on revenge cause of Itachi, Madara, Obito etc
Plus, she wanted to be like a doctor, she is a healer and I imagine that she'd heal Gaara heart.
But Sasori is like her assigned enemy, some people view her as the protagonist kind version of Konan, but I do not see it.
Deidara goes for Sasuke, Sasori for Sakura and from what I remember, Naruto goes against Pain.
I wanted to ask what are your opinions of Naruto and Boruto.
Who are your favourite characters and why?
Are there any characters you dislike? I remember you said that Minato hurt a lot of your favourites (Obito I assume, the uchihas).
Who are your favourite characters to draw?
Do you like the changes in Boruto? Like Orochimaru being way more kind or Sarada unlocking sharigan cause of love for Boruto instead of hate..like most of her clan?
Are there any characters you relate to?
Who are your favourite canon ships and non canon ships?
I am just grateful cause you are so talented and so open about these rare ship yet never critical over what the community likes, I wish more people in this fandom were like this.
Hiii! Thank you for sharing your opinion. I hope you are then ready for my essay below :3 I don't watch Boruto so will only talk about Naruto.
My all-time favourite characters are Kakashi, Zabuza, Sasori, Tsunade. I fell for them as a dumb teenager and carried my love for them through the ages. Can't explain why, they are very hot, strong and at the same time weak, have an emotional baggage that is interesting to explore. Plus they are not the main characters, I really like that. I also very much like Konan, Jiraiya, Sakura and Kisame.
The character I don't like is definitely Minato. He's this sunshine boy (which I don't like to begin with) who fails, and fails badly. But no one really gives him a hard time and he doesnt acknowledgeit himself. I think he's lacking the character, so-called oomph, so looks very boring to me, I guess. I also don't like Obito, another sunshine boy (initially). Too much energy, too hard to handle. And probably any Uchiha in general are not my fave.
When it comes to drawing, I always prefer drawing women. Sakura, Ino, Tsunade and Rin are the ones I draw most, but I honestly like all of them when it comes to making pretty arts.
Kakashi has always been a person who I aspired to be since I was 13. I did relate with Sakura when I rewatched naruto in my mid twenties, felt that we both grew up together.
I generally don't find the appeal of canon ships. It feels like there's no magic. I'm always interested in the 'first' events, and allt he firsts in canon are kind of done. For non canon ships, I have plenty. Kakasaku, Sasosaku, Inosaku, Zabukaka, Kisasaku, Kakatsu, Jiratsu, Kakarin, Shisaku.. the list can go on!

Hugoooooo aannnd Uteeeee ! ! !(I mean I want to heard about how do you think about Yuto&Yugo. )
OH BOY! I have many feelings about these two!!
Yugo!
How I feel about this character:
I absolutely adore this sweet idiot, while he is very funny at times as a kind of comic relief character; Yugo has a lot of depth outside of that. He is a very sweet and caring kid, he knows very well that he acts before he thinks and owns up to it. With everything that goes on in the series, his behavior is justified, he's upset and angry about losing Rin. Someone very special and precious to him, Yugo is allowed to feel what he does and act on his strong emotions. He is just such a good character, everything he does is emotionally driven because he just has a huge heart to compensate for lack of brain cells. Yugo is sweet, dumb and funny, it adds some charm to his character!
All the people I ship romantically with character:
Rin!!!!! Of course! appleshipping is very wholesome! Rin meant the WORLD to Yugo! His reaction when Yuzu assumed Rin was Yugo's girlfriend is one of the sweetest scenes, him blushing and rocking side to side was just precious. Yugo adored her to the moon and back and went around anywhere and everywhere to look for her. Their dynamic is just too sweet, the way Yugo even cared for his d-wheel so much because they worked so hard to build it together is just another reason they're so perfect. Yugo has and only will ever like Rin.
my non-romantic OTP for this character:
Yuya!!!! The idiot and idiot duo. Best friends. Same braincell. These two would just get along so well, always smiling and laughing with eachother. They would have the most wholesome duels for just the fun of it. They deserved to have some interaction in canon, because just that scene when they were syncing during the duel was not enough. If they directly interacted they would just spider-man meme point at eachother and instantly become friends, Yuya would've been more than happy to help Yugo look for Rin.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:
A better reunion between Yugo and Rin would've been nice. Like the parasite thing was depressing, and then bam he never sees her again because she goes into the machine for Ray to be awakened. It was way too sad of an ending for those two and they deserved so much better. The whole thing with Rin always beating Yugo should've been an emotional build up within Yugo to beat Rin in their duel, Yugo wins and Rin becomes free of parasite control and they hug tightly. Rin tells Yugo thank you with tears in her eyes, she'd tell him he did a good job! Cue Yugo sobbing and holding Rin tightly because he never wants her to disappear again. Then Yugo can go look for Yuri to duel him and kick his butt for kidnapping Rin.
Yuto!!
How I feel about this character:
My second favorite of the Yu's! Immediatly at his introduction, I basically just went "Who is this emo child waltzing around, he is amazing" bam its a different version of Yuya. I thought his design and behavior were interesting, he was very angry but also it was sad to hear him apologize to Yuzu and to say he doesn't want to hurt her. You know he carries that guilt about Ruri and its rather sad. Yuto is such a good boy and he deserved way better than what he got. But at least within Yuya, he smiles and communicates with him, their bond through the series is very good. Yuto is very clearly a good sweet boy that went through way too much that he did not deserve. Protect him at all costs.
All the people I ship romantically with character:
Ruri!!! Im a big fallenangel shipper. I know there are people that don't like it despite it being one of the most canon couples aside from Yugo/Rin. The series made it very clear in the short flashbacks that they mutually had feelings for eachother. Yuto literally started crushing on Ruri immediately and was so awestruck; its freaking adorable. And that scene when he gets shy when Ruri rests her head on his shoulder??? CUTE! im cliche okay, they're very fluffy together. Plus the fact that Yuto falls for his best friends sister is rather precious, thats good stuff right there. Yuto really adored Ruri, and it was so sad to hear him say things like he didn't want to hurt her. What happened was not his fault.
my non-romantic OTP for this character:
Yuya! The other best friend pairing, their interactions through the series is very wholesome. Yuto really showed his true personality through the time he is within Yuya. Yuto is a doofus very much like Yuya who was scorned by war, but he smiles because of Yuya and even has funny comments here and there at times. Their bond is very very good, they understood eachother very well.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:
OH BOY! for starters it would've nice if Yuto and Yugo didn't have their miscommunication at all that lead to Yuto being absorbed into Yuya. That's one of the things that really upsets me in this series, Yuto is angry and out for revenge, all he knows is the face of the person who kidnapped Ruri and he sees Yugo. It makes sense for their to be that mistake, but Yugo literally blames Yuto for the same exact thing he's mad about it.
Yuto the one maybe more prone to using common sense would've heard Yugo blaming him for kidnapping Rin and thought ?? wait a minute, no! You kidnapped Ruri!! Its very much both their faults for not stopping for a second to understand this huge red flag in the situation and not just duel. Boys, use your brains and take a second to chat. They would've learned somethings not right and they're both innocent. Yuya could've also helped calm them both down. So instead of Yuto "dying" he and Yugo actually could've gotten along and teamed up together against Yuri...the real mastermind.

My headcanons for MerRin.
Rin is a Mer-Princess of one of the 7 kingdoms of the Sea. The greatest Kingdom is the Uzushiogakure, ruled by King Minato and Queen Kushina. Rin is very special because of her ability to commune with all sea life and control water, she is beloved by all and revered for her kind and gentle nature as well as her beauty.
Her best friend is Lady Konan, she is also close with Lady Shizune the apprentice of Queen Tsunade. She also has a close bond with the young mermaids; Sakura, Tenten, Ino and Hinata. She is also like a big sister to Prince Naruto.
She also bonded with the mighty water spirit Isobu, which she keeps secret from everyone, due to the merfolk fearing him. Only Konan, Shizune and Naruto know of her friendship with Isobu.
Another close friend and confidant, is Lord Nagato, who often serves as her psychologist (He does NOT get paid unfortunately) and he encourages her to keep her mind open to everything.
The Nara, Akimichi, Yamanaka, Senju, Hyuga and Haruno are all merfolk. Mei Terumi is another queen of the 7 kingdoms and a mentor to Rin. She is served by her two loyal bodyguards, Kisame and Zabuza. Who are considered the greatest warriors in all the seven seas.
Obito is a human. He is a lord and technically a prince. He is the nephew of King Fugaku and Queen Mikoto. He's the older cousin of Prince Sasuke, Prince Itachi and Lord/Prince Shisui.
His best friends are Baron Kakashi, Lord Yahiko, Sir Gai, Lady Anko, Lady Kurenai and Prince Asuma.
Obito is a powerful fire wielder, but a kind and fair man as well as supreme commander of the Army. The Aburame, Inuzuka and Sarutobi are part of the kingdom. And the Land of Suna is a close ally. Lord Danzo Shimura is a powerful man within the kingdom and plots to size power for himself. Hiruzen and Jiraiya are two trusted lords and advisors to Fugaku.
King Fugaku is a fair minded man, but he is a man under a lot of pressure and strain, so he doesn't always make the right decisions.
Now the Merfolk are constantly warned about not to go near the surface due to the danger of land. But Rin is always curious, as is Naruto.
Obito tries to be a fair and just man in everything he does, but suffers from sorrow and depression after the death of his parents at a young age.
That's what I've got. Really want to hear your thoughts on this AU and how do you think Obito and Rin would meet.
There are things I agree with and things I cannot agree with here.
I'm going to offer my most honest thoughts respectfully. Forgive any harshness.
Let's start off with what needs to be scrapped:
-We're gonna scrap off the friendship with Konan because it's too OOC, along with Nagato being her "psychologist" - too OOC as well. People should not forget the characterization and personality of the Ame Orphans at all. They were one way with Jiraiya, but as full-fledged characters they are no where near fluffy and friendly.
-Yes, Yahiko is scrapped off from the friendship with Obito too. Put the Akatsuki on the side, they are their own organization that have diplomatic ties with the kingdom.
*I must strongly emphasize that there is absolutely no need for everything to be a friendship just to have more characters involved.
-Also, Rin being a princess is unnecessary given that Minato and Kushina are the rulers here. She does not need to be completely royal to have value. Also, while she's a lovely and genuine mermaid, her being friendly with nearly every living being is too Mary Sue. You can have her as a subordinate to the royal family instead, and with a pleasant social status amongst the merfolk.
-The whole apprenticeship with Tsunade/parallel of Sakura thing is also unnecessary. Paralleling with Team Minato with Team 7 is already overused and makes the characters lack so much personality. To put it bluntly...parallelism with Team 7 is annoying as hell.
-Mei Terumi's loyal guards can be Ao and Chojuro, given that Ao is her right hand and Chojuro is her close subordinate, lmao. Her being Rin's mentor....no. Minato WAS her teacher.
-You can throw in Kurenai as a mermaid here so she can be close to Rin instead of Shizune. Shizune is off somewhere with Tsunade so...yeah. She can also develop a connection with the human Asuma and have their own little story, lmao.
~~
Here is what is approved:
-Rin's friendship with Isobu even though it's a secret because yes, he is apparently the terror of the ocean, lol. Nobody needs to know other than Kushina and Naruto who is clearly connected to a Nine-tailed fox spirit that roams in the land.
-Rin controlling water, approved. She is a mermaid, so of course she can commune with sea life. She's a healer type, so that's cool.
-Obito's best friend is Kakashi and he's close with Asuma and Gai, yes, approved. As I mentioned, Kurenai can be a mermaid.
-Rin having a close bond with Naruto, totally approved.
-Fugaku and Mikoto being rulers, approved. Obito being a fire wielder as well as a commander and his fair personality, also approved.
-Merfolk being warned and all, approved. Danzo's plot, the clans' status in the kingdom, etc etc...approved.
-Obito's depression, very MUCH approved. Perhaps Rin would not have parents either and would be orphaned too, and that way she and Obito can be connected based on that. :D
~~
How would Obito and Rin meet?
-We can always use the Little Mermaid reference; and have Obito drowning. It can start off with Obito and Kakashi fighting off some threats on the borders of the kingdom, and Obito saves Kakashi by running towards an enemy and tackling him off a cliff, which makes Obito fall into the water. The enemy would be dead. That's where Rin finds him, and drags him to the land.
-Kakashi of course, after finishing off the enemies with his lightning attacks, would immediately alert the kingdom to send out a search party for Obito.
-By the time Rin drags Obito to the shore, Rin would use her healing powers to heal him, and then Obito would wake up and see her hiding behind a rock. He'd be a little disoriented, and then Rin would tell him what happened slowly. Taking a closer look at Rin, he'd ask her if she saved him, to which Rin would nod her head cautiously.
-When he realizes that Rin is still in the water, Obito would question it, and then would hide further behind the rock. Obito calls out to her again, and Rin would say that she is not allowed to be out here and that he cannot tell anyone he saw her.
-Obito promises he will keep it all a secret if she lets him see her, and that's when Rin reveals herself to him as a mermaid. Of course, Obito would be astounded by her beauty, and they would exchange each other's names. Obito swears that this is all a secret. Rin would say that she needs to go before someone finds him, and Obito agrees.
-As he watches her swim off, he'd see her tail flailing in the water before she is entirely out of sight. The image of Rin is fully imprinted in Obito's head, while Rin anxiously returns home - not without thinking about the man she just saved.
~~
Extra thoughts:
*Yes, as usual, Rin would have long hair. I'm sure you can imagine how pretty she is already; maybe with a tiara made out of coral (tie-in to Isobu's coral jutsu in canon). :D Her tail's colors would be a mixture of purple and blue gradient, and there would be some gold on the pelvic area.
If we are still referencing Little Mermaid (although I don't see the necessity to follow it all the way): Orochimaru could be the wizard (with octopus tentacles for his tail much like Ursula LMAO) that would give Rin the potion for her to have legs and all...XD
~~
There you have it! :)

Personality: Annabelle is a quiet, gentle, and compassionate individual. Her quiet nature is often mistaken for shyness. But she’s actually not shy at all (typically) and has no qualms about initiating interactions. She actually likes being in the company of other people quite a bit, but doesn’t have a large social battery for spending time with more than one person. (So breaks, especially in her line of work, are a must!) She has a pretty significant fear of having to heavily rely on others/not being able to do things by herself. She feels an intense need to prove she is capable on her own merits. She does experience generalized anxiety, and while it does cover certain social situations for her (particularly matters of romance and sex, and her lack of experience with the latter), it doesn’t encompass social situations in general.
Pre-Canon Backstory:
More of a pre-pre canon backstory. (Because her story with the Ghost of Tsushima characters starts prior to the canon events of the game.) This is also a lot more quick and dirty than the last OC post I did so apologies if its choppy and very bare bones.
~
Annabelle was born to Yuta Nishimura and his wife Susan in the 1990s. Originally, she spent much of her childhood/teens in the American midwest before her family moved to California around the time she was high school. She always had an interest in art, and her parents were very encouraging of her interests. They tried to be supportive of her needs as an autistic person, particularly as both her parents were autistic themselves. While she got along with her parents most of the time, they had a tendency to be a bit overprotective and even smothering at times, which heavily contributed to Annabelle’s desire for self-sufficiency and a need to prove herself.
During high school, Annabelle developed a close relationship with her paternal cousin, Kei. They were practically like siblings, and trusted each other almost completely. She also spend some time trying to get to know her paternal grandparents, but found herself standoffish with them. Still, she tried, and by the end of it found some kinship with her paternal grandmother, Rin.
Eventually, Annabelle returned to the midwest for college, attending college in the same town where her maternal grandmother and maternal uncles lived. She was close to all of them growing up, and it helped her transition into college life to have trusted relatives living in the same town.
She returned from school her sophomore year of college to visit her parents for the holidays. On the way to the airport  in the wee hours of the morning to send her back to college at the end of the break, Annabelle and her parents ended up in a terrible car accident, where Annabelle was the only survivor.
Annabelle was devastated by the loss of her parents, to the point she dropped out of college for a couple of years (during which time she stayed with Kei, who had moved out to the midwest by that point after accepting a job at an art museum as an administrator - the same museum at which she would later come to have her current job).
Annabelle eventually returned to college and finished her studies, at which point she worked odd jobs here and there while living with her maternal grandmother and maternal uncles. After three years or so of this, she moved back in with her cousin Kei, and looked for work for a bit until Kei told her there was an opening at the museum they worked at for a tour guide.
She applied and was accepted, and to this day the museum is where she currently works.
Her story begins when the Museum is set to put on a special exhibit on ‘The Art and Folktales of Tsushima’ (an exhibit on, well, art and folktales from Tsushima, an island of the coast of mainland Japan that in the current day is part of Japan’s Nagasaki prefecture).
On the night before the exhibition is set to open to the general public, Annabelle attends a party with her cousin Kei that celebrates the opening of the exhibit. After passing by a display of a beautiful comb, she has a strange waking dream about a woman in traditional Japanese shrine maiden garb beckoning her towards a door that appears to open to somewhere underwater... a shinto temple submerged under the sea.
She’s snapped out of it by Kei, who gives her a worried look when she comes to.
Unfortunately when she goes to bed that night, she wakes up to find herself underwater again, this time with nothing in sight by light filtering from above. After floating for a bit, and seeing a brief vision of the shrine maiden, she suddenly has the awareness of holding her breath and frantically swims to the surface.
She reaches it in a state of panic and shock, looking around but everything’s a blur. She can hear voices however. Shouts and exclamations of alarm in Japanese. She feels hands attempting to pull her out of the water, and before she knows it, she’s pulled onto what appears to be a fishing boat. This, unbeknowst to her, is the start of her alternating between two different times and places - between her modern day life and Kamakura Era Tsushima, first arriving about fifteen months before the Mongols would set foot on Tsushima and attempt their invasion, kicking off the events of Ghost of Tsushima.
In that fifteen months, a lot would happen to her. She’d be taken in by a fisherman’s family and cause controversy among the the residence of a humble fishing village. A controversy to be settled by the local Jito, Lord Shimura, who decides to go about doing so by taking her into his household as a ‘guest’ until he can determine her trustworthiness. She is confined to his castle for a matter of several months, and appointed a ‘guardian’ of sorts to keep an eye on her and report back to the Jito on observations made about her, her characters, and whatever other information can be gleaned about her.
And who does Lord Shimura appoint to the position but his own nephew, Lord Jin Sakai, a dutiful, skilled, and scarily perceptive samurai who appears to give his uncle the highest reverence. But in spite of every reason to be wary of him, Annabelle finds herself disarmed and at ease in his presence. His gentle voice and forthright, high-minded nature draw her in, and she finds herself trusting him perhaps more easily than she should, given the circumstances.
But it seems he is equally drawn to her in kind, and the two of them develop a strong bond to one another. Little does she know how close the two of them will become, eventually falling into bed together and later bound to each other not as minder and charge, but as husband and wife.
And that’s all before the Khotun Khan shows up with his army to invade Tsushima.
All the while, Annabelle struggles to unravel the mystery of how her split reality came to be in the first place and the identity of the Shrine Maiden. She grapples with what the consequences of finding out might entail. She feels she must, that of course things must go back to the way they were. Right?
But she struggles with allowing her life in the past to unfold, and trying the minimize the heartache that will come eventually when she must cut herself off from it. But try as she might, she increasingly has much to leave behind when that days comes. Chiefly among them, a man she’s come to love madly, a man who slowly comes to be remade by the radically perspective redefining experiences thrust upon him.
And whose very much in love with her in kind and will be absolutely devastated to lose her.

🧊and 🍀? for an OC of your choosing
I'll go ahead, and choose Rin as the OC.
🧊 - Is their current design the first one?
Rin is the one who has changed the most compared to the others, but I think she's finally at a place where I am satisfied with who she is.
The first change she has undergone was a name change. Initially ( back in 2020 ) she was named Yachi.
Physiologically, she hasn't changed much. Rin is a graceful figure of Asian descent. She has a slim body, tanned skin, dark hooded eyes and short blonde hair.
While creating her, I wanted her to have a stark contrast with the rest of the main characters.
Juno who is from Level 1 would always stand out, as they have vastly different experiences from the others, but Rin, Kenta and Aston all hail from Level 3.
Aston is from the countryside of 3, so inherently they don't overlap a lot, but the problem came with Kenta as both Rin and him were Nobles who originate from the city. At first, the only difference between them was that Kenta had been Exiled, as Rin would leave the city to travel in order to see more of the world.
Now, the three of them complete a picture that depicts Level 3. It starts with Aston, who was born and raised in the countryside and having lived a simple life compared to the excitements a city might offer, but who has been through the difficulties of living on the "poor" side of the Level, having done mannual work everyday and struggling to make ends meet.
We move to Kenta, who was born a Noble in the Capital, but was abandoned by his father after his mother's illness, leaving him and the rest of his family on the streets. He has experienced the "ugly" side of the city, and after he was exiled he now lives on the countryside.
And we finally reach Rin who initially was was born in a Noble family in one of the cities. At first, she was simply the daughter of a Level renowned doctor who would simply leave her home in order to see what the world had to offer and in search of opportunities.
After reconsidering, Rin was the only child of her parents, and interested in her father's profession enough to become an apprentice. The Summer she turned 17, her parents had a baby boy, something they had been wanting before Rin was even born, and suddenly the idea of Rin becoming a doctor was too outstretched as they finally had a heir, and she was nearing her 20's. Despite her protests, she was betrothed to a Noble man who she was to marry once she turned 20.
Rin's motives have ultimately changed from "an adventure sounds like fun" to "I can't stay here anymore". When the other three find her, she acts as the binding glue between them. She is a clever young woman with a vast knowledge regarding many topics. She is their ticket to Juno's survival and inside info about how the city works, and they are her ticket out of there; a ticket to her freedom.
With Rin the picture is complete, as she represents the Nobility and the ugly truth behind a comfortable life, how greed changes people in the city.
Rin is also contradictory within her own character, as she shows a hard side; someone who has done dirty work in the side of her father in the name of money, but also a "soft" one. Rin hasn't lived in harsh conditions, and she lacks the "street smarts" as she has only known life in the best of manners.
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Honestly, most characters from Wolves Gone Wild are not inspired by any media. If I had, I would describe her as a crossover between Wylan Van Eck from Six of Crows and Fang Runin from The Poppy War.
She was inspired by my need to complete the set picture of Level 3 through my characters, as Kenta was not enough to represent the cities.

What do you think about the ones who claim Olga is Fujimaru's Sakura?
I assume they are trolling, using unfortunate very loose/broad strokes comparisons, but if they seriously mean a 1:1 parallel (unlike Goetia vs Guda in the Temple which was even driven as a stronger 1:1 parallel to Kotomine and Shirou by giving him that suicide mystic code), I don't know what to say. More politely, one thing in my mind is that they never actually read or watched Heaven's Feel.
IMO if used as 1:1, it's completely insulting to Shirou, Shirou/Sakura, and Sakura to compare her with this situation. Specifically, I read someone who brings them being guilty about failing Olga as the same thing? Like what? Shirou didn't choose to save Sakura because he felt guilt for her sad past: Shirou saved Sakura because he loved her. She was a fixture in his life for years and the person that was his crutch when he was dealing with his depression after Kiritsugu's death. To Shirou, Sakura is "home" according to Rin, in the UBW route. He agonisingly debated what to do about this for many days, considering killing her directly or indirectly via Rin (if Zouken could use her, before even knowing about the Shadow!), so that wasn't even an easy decision to make. It hurt to read how he considered all the lives he's putting in danger for her sake too. Ultimately, he loves Sakura. That's why he chose to be her ally. Choosing to be Sakura's ally or justice's ally is also Shirou's arc in HF.
Tumblr media
It wasn't guilting for what he heard that her life was at all what turned the situation around, and this is important because Shirou has been struggling with Survivor's Guilt since he was a child because only he was saved by Kiritsugu from that fire. Facing his guilt, Shirou refused to use the alleged Holy Grail's wish to save the children in the church's basement. Accepting that failure (the unsaved scorn), his own impotence, and moving on was liberating to Shirou. He tries to save Saber because he loves her again. That's the factor.
Guda has saved a number of damsels in distress (Goredolf included) without any deeply emotional bond forged or love toward them: Corday, Gogh, Yang, Koyan, to name a few. The priestess even witnessed the player's choice of how to handle the Corday situation. There's no need to bond between Olga and Fujimaru to compare it with Sakura and Shirou-- that's bogus, and she's just one of the many chicks that Fujimaru shallowly white knights without any inner debate about the moral of (and not so moral) consequences of their actions. It's not an ongoing character arc, Fujimaru has done this, again and again, there's no exploration or growth from their character in that choice (and that's why is presented as a quick feel-good ticky box instead of a serious inner struggle), but a “samey” action they have repeat time and time again as part of their characterization. While saving Sakura was pivotal for Shirou's arc in HF, Fujimaru's arc is around this 'answer' they are proud of which seems divorced from Olga, she's just a plot feature to them (not saying Olga is a plot device, because I bet she’ll have an arc of her own, but what means to Guda). She would be, IMO, a more important figure in Mash's arc which is about deciding what to protect, fill her void, and how she lacks resolve in her actions, and that's why Galahad put her on read.
Avalon le Fae and Traum are driving to the point to separate Mash and Guda characters more and more. They might support each other, but their scenes are now independent of each other instead of being an echo chamber of two.
It's very easy to forget too Sakura wasn't the only "I want to save them" individual. Shirou wanted to save Illya too (he failed). Bazett wanted to save Angra Mainyu. Kotomine directly drew parallels between U Olga and Angra Mainyu in his "blessing life to be born" with Specimen E's background being more similar to Angra Mainyu than Sakura's issues with the Matou family. With the dual Olga possibility, it seems more of a call-out to CCC Sakura AIs than HF one. Hakuno wanted to save them too. Loops and simulations, dreams and fantasy played a role in CCC and FHA too, not HF. It doesn't mean the resolution is the same, but there are already strong roots in this. I believe Olga will be a more active party as BB/the Mooncell Sakura was than FSN Sakura was in the finale resolution too.

hi jay!! i've been so busy but i finally managed to read the first 7k words of violet rays and didn't want to make you wait who knows how long until i have time to read more.
you are insane for that 1st paragraph! what an insanely good opening. "They call it sonder - the realization that every passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own." incredible start. incredible.
the packing scene is such an adorable way to characterize reader. what a relatable reader character but very charming too.
somehow i missed that this wasn't a best friend ran fic but a best friend's older brother ran fic, which is infinitely more up my alley. i was so hype when i realized. because yeah, big brother ran would have me in chokehold too.
i really love the way you are structuring your scenes. the quick transitions, the balance of dialogue and interiority. i especially love how you're establishing settings. i somehow get a little lost when reading fic because of the lack of setting (which is understandable, i get authors wanting to get to the hot stuff!) but i love that you are giving us the full sensory details. my favorites so far:
"the inside of your cotton tank top sticks uncomfortably to your skin, the same way that the soft hairs at the back of your neck are sticking to each other." and "the world around you is blue and green." it's all of it tbh
i can already tell this is going to be my favorite thing you've ever written!!!
aaa omg sorry for not responding sooner!! your ask has me so giddy :> my thoughts under the cut!
the first paragraph was actually written last in the fic 👀 im not very good at intro’s, honestly i tend to struggle w them a lot; so i slapped that word in there and called it a day ahahakaksn
i actually LOVE the mc so much in this fic! i pat myself on the back because she’s so cute, and i wanted the readers to be able to relate with her on some level. i also put some of myself in her too hehe i really am writing my fantasies huh
it’s actually a theyre-both-my-best friends-but-i’m-in-love-with-the-older-one LMAO she is closer to Rin tho (and oh my god, i was trying so hard not to make him the main guy i’m so down bad he makes me SO weak) but i won’t say anymore about their dynamic in fear of spoiling it, because you’ll understand once you’ve read the whole thing!
i love that trope too!! i will admit i was falling for ran each day i was NOT immune to this pouty mess of a man! sorry ran, but rin will always remain number one in my heart!
i think it adds more spice tbh, it’s more interesting than the regular friends2lovers ✨✨
i can proudly say tho, that establishing a setting and describing surroundings is my strong point in writing, i really focus on that + characterization a lot. i worked hard on those, fun fact, i had to re write Ran’s first kitchen scene with the reader like THREE TIMES!!! bc i was like …. no .. he would not say that or act like that.. re write it. lmaoo my beta readers hate me HAHA
you are too nice to me!! thank you SO much for leaving your thoughts!!!! i was so happy when i received your ask :> you amaze me as a writer and so when i got this and realized you liked my fic i had to sit on the floor for 5 minutes to collect my self LMAO
i’m excited to hear your thoughts on the other half! it definitely gets better as you read and Ran gets sexier of course take your time, and sorry it took me a while to respond i’m actually meant to be on a social media break rn lol, have a good day!!!💕

Still hard at work!
Tumblr media
but this time, I'm actually going to take a moment to assign pokemon pairings to the vocaloids! This will probably involve a lot more aesthetics just since there's inherently less to go on, and also half of the point of vocaloids is that their character can be anything.
To start with the leading lady, Miku is getting a shiny zorua! As I said the whole point of vocaloid characters to me is that they are less actual characters and more templates. And zorua has illusion powers! It's shiny to match more with Miku's color scheme and also, c'mon, it's Miku. She's the vocaloid mascot and the most widely known one, she's a major cultural icon! She'll be the only character getting a shiny pokemon to emphasize that.
Luka is getting a musharna! Luka is usually given a more mature soft vibe when compared to Miku. I feel like musharna matches well with that while also matching her color scheme. In addition its power over dreams and its sleepiness make it an especially great pairing for her WxS variation. Which I have a bias towards.
The twins have to have matching pokemon, I'm sorry but it needs to happen. I'm thinking meowstic, since they're the same pokemon with two different variations, so the two meowstics could hypothetically be twins as well, which I think is silly! The twins also have a youthful energetic vibe, and meowstics are little pranksters! I'm thinking male meowstic for Rin, as the scruffiness really matches her usual tomboyishness. Female meowstics are also noted as being arrogant and stubborn, and I feel like that could give it a fun dynamic with a lot of the project sekai Len variants.
Meiko gets a kricketune! Meiko is often depicted as mature but in a different way from Luka. More of a levelheadedness than a softness? Anyways I feel like that suits the little bug conductor very well. Especially since she's a vocaloid and it has a music theme!
Kaito has always seemed like a blank slate on par with Miku as just being very nothing to me, which is good for a vocaloid, but... idk what to pick really since I already used zorua and also Miku had the additional weapon of being a major icon. I guess I'll give him a vaporeon, since did you know that out of all the pokemon, vaporeon is the most cool? Okay in all seriousness it's blue, its ability to turn into water matches with the lack of character of vocaloids, and also it's an eeveelution which already plays into adaptability.

Which naruto characters are your favourites? Are there characters you dislike/hate?
this answer contains naruto shippuden spoilers!! please don't read ahead if you haven't watched the entire show.
so, my favourites are kiba, naruto and obito - in that specific order. kiba will always remain my absolute favourite, and himbo kings have been my preferred type to simp on for a while now. there's just something about characters that are obnoxiously loud, hyper and lacking in brain cells that makes my heart flutter and coaxes me into writing excruciatingly detailed stories about them lol. i won't say anything more than that, 'cause i could go on for ages why i love those three idiots, hah! 💞
i also really like tobirama and suigetsu, though!! tobirama is my fave hokage, and i just love suigetsu because he is the voice of reason of the entire show, tbh. sasuke couldn't have found a better friend to put him in his place lol.
as for characters i dislike, they're neji, hinata and rin. everyone is really surprised whenever i say that i can't stand neji, lmfao. he's arrogant af, he annoyed me during the entire og naruto series and definitely deserved that fucking punch to the face that naruto gave him during the chunin exams.
tbh, the entire hyuga clan is just eh to me. hinata could have been written loads better than just being fucking obsessed with naruto, but i 'like' her only when i ship her with kiba. naruhina doesn't make any sense to me. like miss girl admitted her love to him twice, and manz didn't even bat an eye, even worse: he told minato sakura was his gf during the war arc when hinata had just been cupping his cheek and talking about how good he is or some shit, idk. also the fact that she kept thinking how soft and warm naruto's hands are while neji was straight up dying was a big no, no for me. 😬
as for rin, the entire "i love you, kakashi" while obito was exhaling his goddamn soul underneath that rock was what did it for me. he deserved better, idc for how long she waited for him in shinobi heaven. the bitch was wrong for professing her love to kakashi while obi was dying right next to her, and i stand by that. end of discussion. 💀
btw these are just my opinions of course. nothing wrong if you don't agree with me, haha!!
except for kiba. we stand king kiba on this blog, even though i love to slander him myself. 😼

LLSIFxPersona AU intro post
SO. I was thinking they could use the Personas they were dressed as in their collab cards. However: a) I feel a little bad/lazy assigning them those Personas when there are SO MANY possibilities, and b) idk if all of those arcana are necessarily accurate to their personalities. For example, doesn't Nozomi strike you as more of a Moon arcana than a Fortune (yes, maybe I'm subconsciously drawing a connection to p3 Nozomi being moon, but for now I do think it's a good fit)? And if I did that, Honoka would be Aeon (iirc), which isn't even a real major arcana. Priestess does fit Umi, though, imo. And I can also definitely see Chariot for Rin. But Lovers doesn't really fit Hanayo. Maybe we could give Lovers to Nico (twintail Lovers supremacy, sorry Yukari)? Or maybe Star? I think that Magician fits Honoka... Like, REALLY well, actually. I'm not sure what to do with Hanayo.
Eli might actually work pretty well as Empress. I'm just not sure for Maki, though. If we give Moon to Nozomi... Maybe Tower for Maki... Although idk, Tower for a team member seems a little extreme... Wb Wild Card Maki lol ///j
Also, who's the Navigator? And what even is the group's mission?? WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS STORY???
BIG QUESTION: who is the Wild Card? Of course my first thought is Yu (LL Yu, not Persona Yu lmao), but she's not in the same generation as u's and well. It'd be weird just sorta sticking her in there like that. ...do we even need a Wild Card, really? It's such a Persona fixture, but it... Idk. I don't want to just throw around a complete lack of an arcana.
IDEAS I JUST HAD IN THE SHOWER: Lovers Kotori! Also, the AU being a fusion with Dancing All Night!
It's hard to say who the WC would be bc they're all already fully fleshed out characters. Player characters in Persona are silent protags, so while they do have some personality, it's largely up to projection by the player. I don't want to give anyone the Fool arcana because that traditionally goes to the slink with the main group - u's, in this case.
I don't have a conclusion for this, these are just the many ideas running through my head rn

Alright Rapid-fire Guardian posting. Hunter edition.
Channedrin, Rin for short.
Is an Awoken Arcstrider. She's rez'd after the events of Shadowkeep so she's relatively young.
She lacks a lot of common sense and ends up asking some really strange questions sometimes, which can often devolve into even more questions.
Skill-wise, she's not very good at combat. She is a quick learner. Has absolutely terrible control over the Light. More often than not she'll hurt herself or allies in addition to enemies.
Fun Fact: She's a Reefborn Awoken! But interestingly enough she doesn't really hanging out with other Awoken.
Alo
He is also an Awoken Arcstrider! He was rez'd in early-ish city age. After the Ahamkara Hunt and before the Great Disaster iirc. I don't take good notes.
He spends a lot of time in the Crucible, and will help Shaxx around with recon or training. It's how he meets Rin 'cause he' s tasked with trying to get her Light in check.
He's the most battle-polished out of the three Hunters, since he's often in Crucible matches and whatnot. His favorite mode would probably be Mayhem.
Fun Fact: He's an insane flirt. He'll hit on any woman within a five meter radius. Works better against the Lightless compared to other Guardians.
Phoenix
He's a Human Gunslinger. Well, that's not exactly the right term. Yes-- he runs Solar, but it's more like Blade Barrage? Think of an Acolyte's Super, but with more precise control on each blade. I likened it to something like Jett's ult from Valorant I guess. Just fire-y instead of wind.
He's been around for a while, since the Dark Ages. Kind of notorious for being a stupid thorn in everyone's side, but he never harmed anyone maliciously. When the Vanguard was beginning to be formed and the City started to exist he noped out of the scene to avoid responsibilities. Became a hermit on seldom visited planets/moons.
While decently skilled in combat, his lack of proper engagement over the years has caused him to rust a bit. Knows his weapons like the back of his own hand, but tactics are where he lacks the most.
'Fun' Fact: He dies. Yeah I kill him. Final Death. RTL. I had plans to kill one of my Guardians off after getting vehemently angry over a fic retconning the return of a character that totally should have stayed dead. Wasn't going to be him at first but I couldn't stand the idea of making a character knowing I'd kill them so I must suffer.
That's all of my Hunters! For now. If I make any more I'll probably update this. Just have some nice Single Post for quick refs, y'know? I'll have separate posts for my Titans and Warlocks, but they'll get linked between each other for ease of access.

Anime Update V2 16
Noragami Aragoto - Watched the second episode, where Kugaha begins scheming with Nora behind Bishamon’s back and the dude we were introduced to just last episode, who gives us some more backstory in this one, gets abruptly and insultingly killed off by a pack of phantom wolves. But the thing that wasn’t doing it for me here was the conflict introduced where Yukine is worried about the possibility of Hiyori forgetting all about him and Yato, which yeah, was in the manga but...this is literally coming off of the anime-exclusive Rabo arc of the first season, where a lot of the conflict was based in Hiyori losing her memory. Yet there’s no mention of it at all! I hate it when anime does this, adapting the manga’s story word for word even when it ends up not matching up with original anime-only content that was included earlier. Shame that Noragami couldn’t avoid that trap.
Hunter x Hunter - Not much to say since the episodes of both anime again covered the exact same ground as each other, but I will say that it’s impressive how the 2011 version had a cut to daybreak and played out its later events in broad daylight, thus stripping it of the spooky, suspenseful atmosphere that the 1999 version had...and yet Hisoka still manages to be so much scarier in the later adaptation compared to the first one! A big part of it is the animation on him, another is the voice Keith Silverstein does, but also helping is that he doesn’t at any point start acting like he’s gonna werewolf out on us for no discernable reason. Seriously, what was up with that part?
Fruits Basket - Like the above, both episodes of both series’ covered the exact same ground, but in this case they were done in somewhat different ways. In the 2001 series, the focus was kept on Tohru the entire time she was back with her family up until Yuki and Kyo came to take her back to Shigure’s house so she can rejoin her new found family, but in the 2019 series, we get Tohru’s POV first and then are shown how Yuki and Kyo struck out together to retrieve Tohru, leading to some great, classic interaction between the two. My preference here is slightly for the latter version, but one thing I think the first anime got better was Grandpa Honda - he lacked the weird senile quirk of calling Tohru by her mother’s name and was voiced by the late, great Brice Armstrong in the dub, which made his part in the story come off with a much stronger impact compared to the remake.
Rozen Maiden - Two episodes this week, the first one adding yet another new Rozen Maiden doll to the cast, Suiseiseki, and we took a trippy ass trip into the world inside Jun’s mind, in his dreams....and somehow even that wasn’t as trippy as the following episode, where the series suddenly became a Seiji Kishi anime where everything is wacky and cartoony, and the characters are having these over-the-top reactions while getting into crazy shennanigans! The latter episode is ultimately a filler episode, but a very fun one that also served to really solidify Suiseiseki’s characterization. Also, I’m now wondering if Megan Hollingshead is going to turn up in the dub at some point since we’ve got the old dub voices for Rena, Satoko, Takano, and Rika all here - might as well get the Sonozaki twins too!
Fate/Stay Night - While the break-in to Caster/Medea’s temple, redesigned with magic to even ressemble Ancient Greece, was cool and all, when it came time to save Sakura, the connection between her and Rin came right out of nowhere! Seriously, if there was any foreshadowing to this “long lost sisters” twist in this anime, I must’ve missed it. Which I suppose is a most notable flaw in this adaptation.
Revolutionary Girl Utena - Got back to the Black Rose Saga proper with Mikage and his badly voice acted boyfriend creating a toxin from the Black Rose that can expand their reach even beyond just the Student Council’s relations. In the meantime, they make Shiori, Juri’s ex-friend and romantic interest who still misunderstands the love triangle she was a part of, into their next duelist and oh boy, this might be the most fucked up character on the show to date. Turns out she’s always resented Juri, and when she finds out that Juri’s had feelings for her the whole time, she is as elated as she is startled, ‘cause this means she’s weighed on Juri’s mind all along, that she has a sort of power over her and can flaunt that in her face. Indeed even after she loses her duel to Utena, Shiori still wins simply by keeping herself unattainable to Juri and exploiting her feelings of rejection whenever she can. Man, do I really pity poor Juri now...
Sound! Euphonium S2 - Welp, that was the end of the series. At least until the third season comes out later on, but how they’ll make that work is anyone’s guess since they played this up as the end of the story so much, calling back to Episode 1 and contrasting it with how things are with Kumiko and Asuka now, which I guess makes Asuka the big Arc Character of this series, getting a title drop, and even displaying the word “END” before special end credits set to euphonium music. I know there’s another movie besides Liz & The Blue Bird and also some special shorts to still watch, but the series proper pretty definitively concluded here, and it was a really solid ending. I particularly liked how a large section of the episode was dedicated to just one final classroom band performance as memories from the show played - slow, steady, and poignant. Sort of describes the series as a whole; I still enjoy it the least out of any of the Jukki Hanada anime I’ve seen, but I do respect and appreciate it a great deal, so I’ll gladly accept more time with these kids and their music.
MAR - None this week. Will get back to Phantom’s big plan later.
AMC: Moriarty The Patriot - Got back to this with the “Scarlet Eyes” two-parter, which detail the origin story of William James Moriarty, as well as the backstory of his adoptive brother Albert, and the other brother Louis (though his deal is still sketchy). And I can best describe young William as “Kurapika if he had the scarlet eyes full-time and was a brilliant-minded demon child with a vision for being a Lelouch vi Britannia type revolutionary, waging war on Britain’s noble class in secret so that the nation may be “cleansed” and society rebuilt into one that is just, fair, and equitable for all people.” Like, HOLY SHIT does this character not fail to mesmerize and horrify with every new turn taken with him, and you sort of have to remind yourself that this is fucking Moriarty, soon to be the Napoleon of Crime for not just Britain but the entire world and the arch nemesis to the world’s greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes. So this makes for quite a compelling moral connundrum where you might agree with the Moriarty brothers intentions and root for them to take down the despicable scumbags of British aristocracy, but also feel that them doing so through CRIME makes them hypocrites of epic proportions, and sooner or later they may end up hurting far more people than they’re helping. And it didn’t have to be that way for Albert and Louis, but they got sucked into Liam’s black hole and he ain’t letting go!
The one misstep I can criticize here is how for some unfathomable reason, Part 1 had a post-credits scene that jumped right to the burning mansion, which totally spoiled the climax of Part 2 and neutered the big, anxiety-inducing suspenseful buildup to it ‘cause you now knew exactly what the brothers were going to end up doing! Like, what logic is there in showing us your hand early like that???
