asking about the good version of the sequel trilogy that lives in your brain

HI YES

ok so my favorite sw movie is the force awakens because it caused me to have such a great idea for the rest of the series which never happened but shhhh it did

the main idea is that you can, by letting finnpoe exist, parallel a bunch of stuff to the original series but also more fun than that so we have:

- first off more time on reys home planet (i read the whole lil companion book about her chilling there) i'm not immune to Nausacaä coded characters

- poe has his tv canon backstory as a pilot instead of changing it to be racist

rey and finn things:

- finn and rey are like hinted at as oo are they gonna be together

- finn does actually get to say and fully use his force sensitive powers

- he and rey have like force-spidie sense on each other

- around the time when they are saving the hurt and angry sandworm thing is where finn's force sensitivity powers and shown and shows a lot of their force connection

- at a time after saving said sandworm thing finn and rey like either are egged on by someone or do think the other has a crush (possibly a weird singular kiss) and then! they both go um no thanks not romantic. but also- you're my force soulmate and my best friend. and then they're in a force-QPR thereafter

- after this poe is all like very quickly relieved and happy for them

rose things:

- listen listen rose and finn are thee ultimate "attempt at being straight before we both realize we are not" thing

- still have the most awkward kiss ever

- rose gets a cool gf (i dont know side characters names)

- both rose and finn are concerned about telling the other it's not gonna work out and then are relieved

- then they're chilling friends and she gets to be in the third movie doing cool stuff

finnpoe things:

- finn poe co-captains jacket scene is more romantic

- after a big scary fight they kiss

- i really want there to be parallels specifically to "a kiss for good luck" to hint reyfinn and then also smth similar to leia and han's endor scene with finnpoe of like what i thought you liked her? no dude im her soulmate, you're who im in love with

aro rey vs kylo stuff:

- more rey roasting kylo for having his shirt off and shit

- kylo being all like there's something special between us please join my facism 🥺 and rey going nope i have a force soulmate you're a force pain in the ass

- zero reylo kissing

- they can team up for the last part with the force sharing lightsabers thing but it would only show that rey has turned him (ps the final fight sucks ass and would be different but not solid ideas what it would be)

other things:

- rey would only ever be related to random trader civilians none of this granddaughter bullshit because power via lineages is the patriarchy fuck that we need Just some guy who is a girl representation

- the scene where rey fights evil!rey would one, semi mirror luke fighting spectral darth vader and two

- SHE WOULD MAKE THE FOLDING DOUBLE SABER

- like im sorry but you can reject the evil version of yourself and still take notes on saber construction

- leia would only almost die she's actually gonna die and also only have the death scene be whatever CGI stuff

- kylo would still kill han bc that shit was funny

- the cool girl who led a stormtrooper rebellion and rides space horses will NOT be related to lando because what the fuck. rey being lukes granddaughter is one thing but- 2/3 of the black character in this fucking Galaxy are related? fuck no. she would still be cool and get more scenes and maybe she can be rose's girlfriend

- leia has the force uses lightsabers more and her lightsaber should be pink specifically because when carrie fisher was asked what color it would be that's what she said

- kylo needs to be more stupid and more just anything that would stop people from thinking he's cool hot and edgy. ofc this is nigh impossible but just more things similar to the "kylo ren the middle schooler" twitter account

- more animals!! and more animal interactions like the ice foxes

- name the porgs something else🤦

- make all the bad guy ships more interesting looking instead of just- the same thing but larger, unLess that element is played up for comedic effect more

- the kid at the casino stables who gets a shot showing they can use the force is the black kid

that's everything i can think of right now yee ill rb with more if i think of it

Y'all really don't understand how much it hurts me that Fives was not there with Rex to get Echo. To save Echo. Knowing Echo was alive but Fives never got to see his Arc/Domino twin and best friend again, thinking he was dead. Knowing Fives had to watch so many of the closest people to him die, and then die himself. Knowing that Echo is truly the last Domino and knowing he's been through so much...it fucking HURTS you guys.

The Problem with Season Five

this is already going to have a lot of you in the replies yelling at me. obviously, massive SPOILERS for s5 of she ra and the princesses of power if you haven't already seen it.

okay, so She Ra is definitely a kids' show, but it has a lot of themes aimed towards an older audience: abuse, war, found family, destiny and knowing who you are. I loved She Ra because it made me feel empowered, made me feel seen. after this last season, however, I don't feel the same. I will, however, talk about what it did well.

What She-Ra s5 did RIGHT

I very much enjoyed seeing the character development for most characters come to the forefront here. For example, SW returned to her original motivations. When she lived in Mystacor with the other sorcerers, her thirst for power was borne of a desire to fight the Horde. When she was rejected, then she chose to do what she did. We see a return to that in s5, where she takes a stand against Prime by enlisting Castaspella to stop her if she tries to take any power for herself. She ends up just wanting to help, to do what she can, which was excellent. Glimmer, Bow and a bunch of other characters are given some love here as well. I especially enjoyed seeing Bow and Mermista take on leadership positions in the absence of Adora; it was an excellent look into another facet of their personalities.

Character interactions in non-serious moments were, for the most part, good. Swift Wind and Scorpia being bros was not something I knew I needed but something I want more of. Netossa basically being Batman and knowing the weaknesses of everyone around her was great and an iconic scene. Bow thinking Catra was super adorable was also an excellent moment in the season and I could watch 9 more seasons worth of that. Something that surprised me was Entrapta's "not good with people"-ness being talked about and addressed by the other characters and explained by her; I wasn't sure if that was ever gonna be talked about in the show.

Side note: thank you Crew-Ra for giving Scorpia her own musical number, it was great.

Prime was also a fascinating enemy. He's this sort of religious figure, this world destroyer who's been around for seemingly centuries, maybe much longer. He's cold, calm and calculated. I've seen it pointed out that he's everything Hordak is not. He's manipulative, knows body language and facial expressions, and has a perfect grasp on how to get exactly what we wants. My favorite aspect of this season was the hive mind control. This was a very interesting plotline to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed HiveMind!Catra as well as Wrong Hordak. I loved the idea of pitting allies against each other and the angst and emotional weight that carried.

Going to use that point to segue into one of this season's strengths: Netossa and Spinnerella. Wow! We get a chance to see what a healthy queer/wlw relationship looks like, and two background characters get major upgrades in relevance. Two diversity points for one being a big girl and for the couple being interracial (in our world anyway), but diversity is the norm is SPOP and we might have to stan forever. It was extremely heartwarming and resulted in one of my favorite scenes to ever show up in animated media (one which I'll be stealing to add to my vows if I ever get married):

It was beautiful and I will absolutely never shut up about it.

There were some beautiful moments this season!! Absolutely gorgeous. A highlight for me cinematically was episode 5, which will probably bother some people when I say what I will below. I will be honest, the new transformation sequence and the scene of Adora holding Catra as She-Ra was powerful and had my heart pounding with excitement. It was awesome.

On the other hand...

What She-Ra s5 did WRONG

I'm going to break my issues with the final season down one by one, starting with the narrative of abuse.

From the very beginning, abuse is the most prevalent theme in the show. Prime (HP) abuses Hordak, Hordak abuses SW, SW abuses both Adora and Catra, and Catra abuses Adora. I liked the Crew-Ra tackling this issue. Abused people abuse people, right?

Why was everyone redeemed in s5? (Well, except for Prime, he was blasted away by She-Ra.) Hordak was given a blank slate to start over, even though he was the reason Etheria was war torn for at least a few decades; SW was given a hero's sacrifice, where at the end of her life she finally decides to do some good; and Catra is immediately forgiven for doing one good thing and all trust in placed in her simultaneously.

Hordak and H. Prime as abusers are pretty cut and dry; at no point are they ever remorseful for their actions, except for Hordak in the case of being abusive to Entrapta. SW is much more of an interesting character to analyze, because her motivations are geared directly towards herself. This seems to change in the final season, when she returns to her original motivations from back when she was in Mystacor. Defending her home. In her pursuit of the power needed to defend Etheria from the Horde, she fell into darkness. She began to abuse Adora and Catra.

One could argue that the hero's sacrifice she was given for redemption was unneeded. SW was an individual addicted to power. She was manipulative, using fake affection as a means to control. She didn't deserve a redemption. The only evidence we have of this supposed change of heart is a line to Castaspella: "...and stop me if I try to take the power for myself." Okay... so, SW, um... what changed your mind? Was it Micah? Because at no point has he forgiven you. In fact, there should've been much more hostility between the two of you (which is a point I'll address in a moment). In all honesty, the relationship between SW and Micah reminds me of what should've happened between Catra and Glimmer, or Catra and Scorpia.

And Catra... My problem with her story is that she was kinda just... forgiven? instantly. no repercussions, no long talks about feelings, no... consequences. Catra got the girl and that was it. A small list of things she did over 4 seasons, in no certain order:

Scratched what was implied were scarring marks down Adora's back

Was the cause of Angella's "death" #angelladeservedbetter

Kidnapped both Glimmer and Bow

Opened a world-ending portal all to ensure Adora failed

Also pushed Adora into what looked like an abyss

Verbally abused Scorpia into leaving

Wanted to pit Corrupted!She-Ra against her friends (dehumanization)

Got Entrapta sent to Beast Island, a deadly place no one ever returns from

And this is just the stuff off the top of my head. We all knew Catra was going to get a redemption, but this one was completely undeserved. She apologized to Adora and Entrapta. Two very short apologies for what canonly was at minimum, months of abuse, manipulation, intent to kill (which is literally mentioned by Adora) and general disregard for anyone or anything but revenge for something that didn't even deserve it. The entire cast should've been outraged. Glimmer in particular had a very big reason not to ever forgive Catra ("I'm not losing another parent!"), but it was all glossed over.

The biggest issue with season 5 was the abuse plotline completely dropped. You can't spend 4 seasons explaining how the cycle of abuse affects you and everyone around you... and shelve it. And we know the reason why it was shelved.

Let me first preface this with the fact that I am super happy we got representation. As a queer nblw who grew up feeling alone, it's so good to see things changing in media. An onscreen wlw kiss on a kids' show is groundbreaking and I'm very happy that She-Ra broke this barrier.

But all representation is not good representation. Catra and Adora is not a good representation of a healthy relationship.

Catra is shown throughout the series to be very unstable. This is even prevalent in season 5, when Adora "chooses SW" over Catra, she runs away. This breaks Adora's heart. The last thing that Catra needs is a relationship when she hasn't even confronted the issues that she has. There's no healing done in season 5, no therapy as the fandom loved to meme about, no long talks about forgiveness and the hurt caused. There's no callback to any of the pain and anguish that Catra put Adora through. Catra may love Adora, but if there is no healing done for the both of them, their relationship will fail. They will fall into the same cycle again. Adora will do something Catra doesn't like, Catra will do what she's done for all of the show, and it will repeat until something breaks.

I'm going to talk about the implications of the ending we have now, and feel free to argue with me.

She-Ra is a kids' show. Abuse is one of the main themes. Catra is shown to be an abuser. Here's what we are teaching younger audiences:

a. if you love someone enough, maybe they'll change

b. everyone deserves a second chance

c. your abuser will change as long as you're loyal and never stop trying to love them

d. things someone does to hurt you mean nothing in the wake of forgiveness

e. if someone who hurt you changes suddenly and wants to be back in your life, you should let them back in

Character interactions for the things that mattered (plot threads from previous seasons, general personality clashes, etc) were absent this season, in the moments where they mattered the most. (The best three in my opinion were Scorpia and Perfuma, the BFS inviting Catra in, and Mermista and Entrapta.) Glimmer and Adora should've had their time to talk. Scorpia should've gotten to say her piece to Catra. SW and Micah should've interacted more. Micah and Glimmer should've gotten more than an introduction!

I'm not going to get into how the entire final season was wrapped around making Catra and Adora get together (a fundamental writing no-no; it never ends up working), or how it was bad writing. I just want everyone to think critically for one moment. There are so many other glaring issues in what was, overall, a stellar show. If there was another season, or some mini episodes where the characters talk out their problems and past transgressions against each other, then I could excuse She-Ra. But I doubt we're going to get any of that. So I won't.

Kids - (poe dameron x fem!reader)

A/N: Heyoooo!! SHE’S BACK! I’m starting back with a quickie;) because I am still getting used to my new home and am not emotionally settled in yet. You know how it is. This one is inspired by Orville Peck’s ‘Kids’. It’s a banger so you should listen to it as well!

The voice of Shara Bey filtered through the small sunlit house to reach the two playing toddlers stationed in the living room.

"Poe! Share with Y/N." She scolded her son.

The small black haired boy knocked his toy X-Wing against his friend's forehead, giving her a swollen welt the size of a Whisperbird egg.

She cried out and clutched her head, dropping her grip on Poe's toy.

The small boy waddled off hurriedly in the direction of his room. He was halfway to his door when a strong hand wrapped onto his shirt and yanked him backwards.

"Poe Dameron you apologize right now!" Shara exclaimed, her voice sterner than the small boy had ever heard it before.

Poe whimpered in his mother's strong grasp.

She pulled him into the crook of one elbow, carrying him like a football, back towards the screaming Y/N.

Shara's husband, Kes Dameron, entered the living room from his workshop, his hands covered with mechanical grease. "Shara, what's...?" His words trailed off as he looked over the scene and began to put the pieces together. The man reached down to pick up the squealing girl and cradle her in his arms. He ran a hand over her welt and she yelped in pain.

"Poe, you need to apologize to Y/N." Shara said, her gaze firm on the squirming boy in her arms.

Poe whined for a beat and then said, "But, it's not fair, Mommy! She has a toy and she tried to take mine!"

"Not everything in life is fair, Poe. That doesn't mean you get to be mean, you understand?" One of her dark eyebrows raised.

The small boy sighed and mumbled, "I'm sorry."

"I don't think she can hear you, son." Kes said, nodding to the wailing girl in his arms.

"I'm sorry Y/N." Poe said again, extravagantly emphasizing every word.

"Good. Now, get in your room, mister. You're in time out." Shara said as she dropped him back to the ground.

Jolting out of his slumber, Poe Dameron sat up in his bed. He ran a hand through his thick black hair and over his stubble-ridden face.

His dream began to dissipate from his mind and the day in front of him began to materialize.

'Have to go to briefing in 20 minutes, need to double check the hyperdrive on Black One before the mission this afternoon, should probably shower-' His to-do list for the day was interrupted by the jingle of an incoming call on his holomessager.

Poe leaned over in bed and took the singing device from his nightstand. His eyes scanned over the Aurebesh on the device, denoting who his call was from.

"Y/N!" Poe said, the excitement in his voice causing it to warble. The man flipped the blanket and sheets off his bed and hurried to his closet, pulling the first pair of pants he could find. He snapped them on and then clicked the answer key on his holomessager.

Your face shone brightly on the screen in front of him, your mouth pulled back in a smile and the small scar Poe gave you on your forehead. "Dameron! How's my favorite Resistance member?"

Poe smiled and rubbed his palm across the back of his neck. "Hey, Y/N. It's good to hear from you."

You sighed and shifted your hips. "Yeah, sorry it took so long to get back to you, we had to move our Base out of Bagano. First Order troops crash landed here and some of them survived to call for a rescue transport, which-"

"Brought even more First Order troops to your secret Base." The Commander nodded in understanding.

"Right." You replied, your bottom lip in your mouth.

Poe chuckled. "I can't believe neither one of us have died yet."

You laughed. "I can't believe it either. With all the shit both of us have been through."

"Remember our first flying lesson? Without BB-8, we wouldn't have made it out of that one." The pilot shook his head in wonder.

"BB-8 is the only reason either of us are alive, I'm pretty sure."

Poe snickered and grabbed a shirt from his closet and pulled it on.

"Poe?" You asked, your voice suddenly quiet.

"Hmm?" He responded.

"Promise you'll keep calling me until one of us dies?"

The Commander's eyebrows scrunched. "Y/N, of course. I thought that was the deal."

"Good...." You bit your lip, vying to keep your heart from spilling down your lips. "You're like the only thing that keeps me sane in this war."

Poe nodded and looked down at his bare feet. "I feel the same way about you."

"I wish we could-" Your chest tightened.

"Me too." He interrupted. "I thought that I was dreaming. The first time you kissed me." Poe's voice clipped towards the end of his sentiment. His face drew back in shock at his confession.

"Poe..." You shook your head.

The man on the other side of your holomessager kept up his momentum, "But, I know this isn't the academy anymore; I know that."

You nodded your head, "We can't go back to being those kids again, Dameron."

"Maybe we don't have to be those kids again, maybe we can just be us. Together."

The backs of your eyes pricked hot with emotion. You swallowed, "We have to make it out of this thing alive first."

Poe nodded his head and took his top lip into his mouth. "Yeah."

"Just keep calling me, Dameron." You whispered.

"I will. I still really, really love you." He smiled, the sides of his eyes pained with the distance between the two of you.

You smiled gently back. "I still really, really, love you too."

Hello! I'm French (so sorry for my english ^^') and I saw TLJ yesterday! I don't know what to think about the movie honesly, and I feel very weird... But I absolutely love the relation between Kylo and Rey. It was my favorite part. I ship them since I saw TFA the first day of its release two years ago x) and I followed you shortly after. I read some of your answers to the reylo community and I don't agree with some of your theories ^^' 1/5

It’s clear reylo it’s not happening and will not happen. I’m a little sad about it because I did really want it to happen and I still want. But we’re wrong and we have to accept the truth. In the movie, the connexion between them was false and made by Snoke. Kylo manipulated Rey: he made her believe that he would eradicate the First Order but it was false. He played with her kindness to achieve his purpuse: to kill Snoke and his gards with her help and to rule the First Order. 2/5

He asked her to rule with him, bc he’s alone and he’s suffering bc of that. But I don’t think he fall in love with her, finally. And she doesn’t either. He turned against her and said it was her the one who killed Snoke and then, he took the throne. For me, Kylo will die in SWIX: he’s the only bad guy now, he’s the enemy. There will be no redemption arc, because it would be to similar to ROTJ, and scriptwriters understood it’s not the good solution to make a good story and please the fans 3/5

It’s not reylo and yet, I love this evolution in the story. Kylo Ren is my favorite character and I think he’s the best caracter in SW universe. Adam Driver is INCREDIBLE as Kylo Ren. His feeling explode at my face at each scene. He’s soooo tortured and confused and consummed with pain. He’s attracted by light but killing Han Solo destroyed him and I think he will not be able to go out the abyss. 4/5

I don’t remember exactly what you said about Rian J… Did you say he hadn’t understand the bond between Rey and Kylo? If not, ignore this: I think there multiple explanations to the relation of Rey and Kylo in SWVII. The reylo explanation is not universal. Rian doesn’t read their relation romanticly, that’s all :-) But maybe I’m wrong! Maybe he didn’t manipulate her, maybe the bond between them is true (at the end, there were connected again!) I think this has to be the longest ask I’ve ever received. Thanks for sending it and being enthusiastic!=)

I still have mixed feelings about TLJ, honestly. I loved some scenes and disliked others. But I think I was overhyped too, and that can happen when you’ve been reading hundreds of Reylo fanfictions for 2 years with endless theories of what could possibly happen in the future. In order of storytelling, I truly wished that Rian would’ve taken MORE risks! Yes, Reylo is a risk but I’m talking about Rey’s family and Snoke. I wanted to see Snoke being more powerful but after seeing TLJ I felt like his character lost all it’s meaning because he was killed off so easily. I also wished we would have gotten MORE interactions between Reylo where they actually talked more, because I felt it was a bit rushed to see Rey being infatuated with Kylo that soon after seeing him kill his own father, lol. I also had problems with the timeline. When The Resistance needs to escape from the FO, Finn and Rose have a span of a few hours to fix the tracker, meanwhile we see what feels like days or maybe even weeks pass between Rey, Luke and Kylo’s storyline.

Kylo is in love with Rey and she is infatuated with him. Their attraction to each other is genuine but they have to overcome their obstacles which are different views and goals. That’s why Rian called this movie a romantic drama.xD

No, I did not say that. But I wish he would have filmed their scenes a little different (like JJ did in TFA). And when I wrote this earlier, some of my followers thought I meant that I wanted subtlety - NO, JJ gives more time and confuses a lot more on Reylo’s faces when they interact. He’s a master in this area, I think. Because somehow it feels even more intimate and real, and I think Rian didn’t quite capture that in TLJ. BUT that doesn’t mean that their scenes were horrible, not at all, they were good, I just wished he would have taken more time with them.^^

Well, Rian sees TLJ as a romantic drama (if I remember that quote from Japan correctly). So no, he does see Reylo as romantic, but they’re not perfect romantic right now. I think Reylo will end up together. Because WHY would Rian plant so many romantic seeds in their scenes in TLJ? It would be pointless if they didn’t have some kind of meaning to them. Reylo have a forcebond, in my opinion, so that wasn’t “manipulated” or made up by Snoke.^^
