Sometimes when I’m writing my Fanfics for League of extraordinary gentlemen, I think it’s far too strange and out there to be liked at all…
Then I remember how bugfuck INSANE the comic is and I stop thinking it
If I ever write anything resembling lightning penis just SHOOT ME or strap me to a chair and play the leagues movie on LOOP

rereading emily wilson's rendering of the hanging of the slave women in odyssey 22 and i was really struck by how she consistently calls them "girls," even when the greek explicitly refers to them as γυναῖκες, and i was wondering why she might have made this choice to make them appear younger in english than they do in greek, but i realized that greek doesn't have anything else to call them. there simply isn't a word for a "girl" who isn't a virgin and isn't being talked about as someone's daughter. by virtue of being enslaved and raped, they are referred to as adult women, no matter how young they are.

spartacus and crassus :)
this is actually a rejected panel from a much longer comic I’ve been fucking around with on and off for awhile- I had plans to do a long form spartacus comic for a long time, I just keep missing the last book on my research list in second hand stores 😔 I always have money when the last copy sells out aughhh
anyway! I might call crassus my girl in the group chat, but I’ve actually spent more years wishing that spartacus got to run crassus through on his sword and then read the fate of rome out of his entrails. ALAS.
on that note, isn’t it kind of interesting how spartacus’ funeral games for crixus turn roman order upside down and feel like both a foundational sacrifice and a curse? isn’t it kind of fun how crassus will not die in rome, and neither will pompey, who came in like a vulture to take credit for crassus’ work? (it’s VERY fun)
Plutarch, Crassus

Aaa, I did some digging on how the hell writing is so inconsistent in Buffy. Turns out the creator Whedon was abusive towards pretty much everyone on the set through all the years they were filming Buffy.
He especially hated that Spike's actor made Spike popular and fans wanted more of him. Whedon threatened Spike's actor James: " (He) backed me up against a wall one day and he was just like, ‘I don’t care how popular you are, kid, you’re dead. You hear me? Dead. Dead!'" Apparently, you don't mess with Whedon's own plans (which is weird; he should know that characters do what they want and it should be an honor if a character resonates with the audience, even when it wasn't your plan).
Whedon also told to Buffy's stunt actress and the stunt coordinator, who met in the series and started dating, that if they don't break up, he's going to destroy both of their careers.
Cordelia's actress got pregnant during Angel filming and Whedon kept insisting that she should abort the baby (because his artistic visions are now ruined).
Even his wife said he's an asshole!
Well. Suddenly it makes perfect sense why - especially Spike - is written so inconsistently. The creator hated the character and its actor. No wonder Spike has been written to do horrible things - yes, I read about Spike's rape attempt towards Buffy, sometime at the end of S6. I'm not that far yet but I suspect it has been written something like "Don't you dare to leave me, bitch!". Lots of attempts to make fans hate Spike from the S5 onward...
I'm always underlining that creations don't really speak about their creators but also, whatever we create, we leave our fingerprints on them.
And Buffy is full of shitty, shitty fingerprints of its creator....

I feel like if Izzy had made Stede stab him for his own (sexual?) gratification, at gunpoint, we'd be seeing posts calling him a rapist, is all I'm saying.
Because literally everything he does, short of breathing, gets spun in the worst possible way until you'd not even sure you're watching the same show.

thinking about best girl in the world nanami kiryuu and the horror of adoring an older male figure in your life and then coming of age and finding out they expected something from you. thinking about her looking back and wondering if it was all in preparation. if any of it was real. thinking about how empty the love she surrounds herself with is. how she adores and adores and expects to be adored in return but it’s all empty. none of it is love. thinking about how she realizes that this is it, this is all that’s for her at ohtori academy. that she’s supposed to be docile and accepting and a pretty face to swoon over and be used by the men (even her brother). thinking about how she sees anthy and akio and she’s so scared. she’s pissed and tired and so terrified. because that could’ve been her. thinking about how she’s never been afforded real comfort, so all she can do is put up walls and live in an empty fortress. thinking about how she’s been raised as a calf to slaughter. thinking about her.

It's crazy that people still uphold show!Sansa as a well-written character and pretend that liking her is the pinnacle of feminism when it would be infinitely more impactful to acknowledge her terrible and misogynistic writing. This is the same character who, while written by two men, was thankful for the abuse she suffered because it allowed her to grow. The same character who we had to be told was smart because the writers were too lazy to develop or show her intelligence. The same character who had to rely heavily on the men surrounding her and ended up accomplishing nothing on her own merit ( and no, thinking that she deserved to be Queen doesn't mean that she earned it). She is not well-written, she is not complex, and she is not a feminist character. Which is fine! If you enjoy her then good on you, but please stop pretending that she's something she isn't just because you feel the need to justify liking her character

It’s all “support sex-repulsed asexuals” until we actually express anything about our sex repulsion then suddenly we’re a bunch of “stuck-up prudes” who need to get laid (be correctively raped) until we’re “normal”.

“Representation” discourse about “marginalisation” is like if the standard feminist line about graphic verisimilitudinous rape scenes were that they were an empowering tool for victims (actually probably the most empowering and important tool, even more than checking/treatment for STDs) to see themselves and should be festooned everywhere with no escape ever and if you object to this as a rape victim it’s bc you need to work past yr internalised victim blaming and self loathing

As much as I love invincible the fandom is disgusting and its treatment of innocent women never ceases to amaze me. SPOILERSSSSS
What do you mean mark is “lucky” that he got sexually assaulted by anissa?? What do you mean you would take his place if he didn’t want it? Male rape already isn’t taken seriously because they’re expected to like and want it, but to go on TIKTOK of all places and claim that mark being raped is something he should’ve enjoyed and wanted is horrific.
And these people, the ones making fun of the sexual assault, are the same ones hating Amber for no reason. You all are disgusting and I hope you grow the fuck up soon.
