I'm curious about what subjects in secondary school people found most useful in retrospect, but "useful" here just means "I'm glad I learned it." I'm not (necessarily) interested in what skills people think made them most employable, or which subjects feel most prestigious, unless employability or prestige are things about yourself you personally value highly, and which you think a high school class helped with.
Unfortunately for space reasons the options are necessarily condensed, and kind of arbitrarily, but this easily could have been a 30-option poll if Tumblr permitted it. But if you feel like it, please specify or elaborate in the notes. "Languages" includes both ancient languages like Latin, and modern languages, including modern languages with a small number of speakers like Irish. Since this is a poll about whether the class was useful, if you ended up learning a language that you took a class in, but you feel the class itself did a poor job teaching you the language or its basics, pick another subject. For space reasons I had to condense some options; if you chose "algebra or trigonometry," for instance, please feel free to specify in the notes which one. This would be especially useful for a music or art class.

What kind of work can be done on a commodore 64 or those other old computers? The tech back then was extremely limited but I keep seeing portable IBMs and such for office guys.
I asked a handful of friends for good examples, and while this isn't an exhaustive list, it should give you a taste.
I'll lean into the Commodore 64 as a baseline for what era to hone in one, let's take a look at 1982 +/-5 years.
A C64 can do home finances, spreadsheets, word processing, some math programming, and all sorts of other other basic productivity work. Games were the big thing you bought a C64 for, but we're not talking about games here -- we're talking about work. I bought one that someone used to write and maintain a local user group newsletter on both a C64C and C128D for years, printing labels and letters with their own home equipment, mailing floppies full of software around, that sorta thing.
IBM PCs eventually became capable of handling computer aided design (CAD) work, along with a bunch of other standard productivity software. The famous AutoCAD was mostly used on this platform, but it began life on S-100 based systems from the 1970s.
Spreadsheets were a really big deal for some platforms. Visicalc was the killer app that the Apple II can credit its initial success with. Many other platforms had clones of Visicalc (and eventually ports) because it was groundbreaking to do that sort of list-based mathematical work so quickly, and so error-free. I can't forget to mention Lotus 1-2-3 on the IBM PC compatibles, a staple of offices for a long time before Microsoft Office dominance.
CP/M machines like Kaypro luggables were an inexpensive way of making a "portable" productivity box, handling some of the lighter tasks mentioned above (as they had no graphics functionality).
The TRS-80 Model 100 was able to do alot of computing (mostly word processing) on nothing but a few AA batteries. They were a staple of field correspondence for newspaper journalists because they had an integrated modem. They're little slabs of computer, but they're awesomely portable, and great for writing on the go. Everyone you hear going nuts over cyberdecks gets that because of the Model 100.
Centurion minicomputers were mostly doing finances and general ledger work for oil companies out of Texas, but were used for all sorts of other comparable work. They were multi-user systems, running several terminals and atleast one printer on one central database. These were not high-performance machines, but entire offices were built around them.
Tandy, Panasonic, Sharp, and other brands of pocket computers were used for things like portable math, credit, loan, etc. calculation for car dealerships. Aircraft calculations, replacing slide rules were one other application available on cassette. These went beyond what a standard pocket calculator could do without a whole lot of extra work.
Even something like the IBM 5340 with an incredibly limited amount of RAM but it could handle tracking a general ledger, accounts receivable, inventory management, storing service orders for your company. Small bank branches uses them because they had peripherals that could handle automatic reading of the magnetic ink used on checks. Boring stuff, but important stuff.
I haven't even mentioned Digital Equipment Corporation, Data General, or a dozen other manufacturers.
I'm curious which portable IBM you were referring to initially.
All of these examples are limited by today's standards, but these were considered standard or even top of the line machines at the time. If you write software to take advantage of the hardware you have, however limited, you can do a surprising amount of work on a computer of that era.

Dark photon searches
Scientists working on the Dark SRF experiment at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory have demonstrated unprecedented sensitivity in an experimental setup used to search for theorized particles called dark photons.
Researchers trapped ordinary, massless photons in devices called superconducting radio frequency cavities to look for the transition of those photons into their hypothesized dark sector counterparts. The experiment has put the world’s best constraint on the dark photon existence in a specific mass range, as recently published in Physical Review Letters.
“The dark photon is a copy similar to the photon we know and love, but with a few variations,” said Roni Harnik, a researcher at the Fermilab-hosted Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center and co-author of this study.
Light that allows us to see the ordinary matter in our world is made of particles called photons. But ordinary matter only accounts for a small fraction of all matter. Our universe is filled with an unknown substance called dark matter, which comprises 85% of all matter. The Standard Model that describes the known particles and forces is incomplete.
In theorists’ simplest version, one undiscovered type of dark matter particle could account for all the dark matter in the universe. But many scientists suspect that the dark sector in the universe has many different particles and forces; some of them might have hidden interactions with ordinary matter particles and forces.
Just as the electron has copies that differ in some ways, including the muon and tau, the dark photon would be different from the regular photon and would have mass. Theoretically, once produced, photons and dark photons could transform into each other at a specific rate set by the dark photon’s properties.
Innovative use of SRF cavities
To look for dark photons, researchers perform a type of experiment called a light-shining-through-wall experiment. This approach uses two hollow, metallic cavities to detect the transformation of an ordinary photon into a dark matter photon. Scientists store ordinary photons in one cavity while leaving the other cavity empty. They then look for the emergence of photons in the empty cavity.
Fermilab researchers in the SQMS Center have years of expertise working with SRF cavities, which are used primarily in particle accelerators. SQMS Center researchers have now employed SRF cavities for other purposes, such as quantum computing and dark matter searches, due to their ability to store and harness electromagnetic energy with high efficiency.
“We were looking for other applications with superconducting radio frequency cavities, and I learned about these experiments where they use two copper cavities side-by-side to test for light shining through the wall,” said Alexander Romanenko, SQMS Center quantum technology thrust leader. “It was immediately clear to me that we could demonstrate greater sensitivity with SRF cavities than cavities used in previous experiments.”
This experiment marks the first demonstration of using SRF cavities to perform a light-shining-through-wall experiment.
The SRF cavities used by Romanenko and his collaborators are hollow chunks of niobium. When cooled to ultralow temperature, these cavities store photons, or packets of electromagnetic energy, very well. For the Dark SRF experiment, scientists cooled the SRF cavities in a bath of liquid helium to around 2 K, close to absolute zero.
At this temperature, electromagnetic energy flows effortlessly through niobium, which makes these cavities efficient at storing photons.
“We have been developing various schemes trying to handle the new opportunities and challenges brought in by this ultra-high-quality superconducting cavities for this light-shining-through-wall experiment,” said study co-author Zhen Liu, an SQMS Center physics and sensing team member from the University of Minnesota.
Researchers now can use SRF cavities with different resonance frequencies to cover various parts of the potential mass range for dark photons. This is because the peak sensitivity on the mass of the dark photon is directly related to the frequency of the regular photons stored in one of the SRF cavities.
“The team has done many follow-ups and cross-checks of the experiment,” said Liu, who worked on the data analysis and the verification design. “SRF cavities open many new search possibilities. The fact we covered new parameter regions for the dark photon’s mass shows their successfulness, competitiveness and great promise for the future.”
“The Dark SRF experiment has paved the way for a new class of experiments under exploration at the SQMS Center, where these very high Q cavities are employed as extremely sensitive detectors.” said Anna Grassellino, director of the SQMS Center and co-PI of the experiment. “From dark matter to gravitational waves searches, to fundamental tests of quantum mechanics, these world’s-highest-efficiency cavities will help us uncover hints of new physics.”

every single time I think hey maybe Microsoft has learned how to make software that isn't terrible and won't make me hate them they reveal that they have developed an all new trick designed to make me angry.
I'm in Windows for reasons and I notice that my performance is weird so I check the task manager and some process called "Microsoft Office Click To Run" is eating a full core worth of performance. What is Click To Run, you ask? Great question! it is:
Click-to-Run products use streaming. Think of this in the same way that you think about streaming video. You can watch the first part of the video before the whole file is downloaded. Similarly, with Click-to-Run, you can start using Office before the whole suite or product has been downloaded. While you are using your application, the rest of Office is being downloaded quietly in the background. Another aspect of Office Click-to-Run is the unique way that Office is stored after it is downloaded onto your computer. Click-to-Run uses Microsoft virtualization technology to contain Office 2010 inside a virtualized application space. This virtual "bubble" separates Office from the regular file system and applications on your hard disk. This lets Office 2010 Click-to-Run coexist side-by-side with any existing version of Office that is already installed on your computer. There are also other benefits to Office Click-to-Run.
God. Why is this running all the time. Just download an installer binary, use an update manager like a normal adult. It's streaming in as needed, there's no reason for this to be a service!
How much can this possibly improve over how we distributed Microsoft Office literally a decade ago. The Steam Hardware Survey pre-filters for moderate power users with high-end systems and according to it, about 38% of PC users have four or fewer cores in their computers. You should not be eating a quarter or more of the performance of a third of your users without even blipping up a notification.
I don't mind the concept of an auto-updater, but this is enabled on every single computer with Microsoft Office all the time, and the switch to turn it off is disabling the service in the Windows System Management Console. This is not something even a relatively capable Windows user knows how to do! This is an enterprise solution, why is it set up in the least convenient mode by default on every computer with MS Office.
If you ignore Excel, there have been no significant feature changes to Microsoft Office that matter to your median user in fifteen years. If you told me that the only version of Microsoft Office I could ever use again was 2007 I would literally not care because until last year that WAS the only version of Office I ever used. It introduced the XML document format and the Ribbon UI model which were the last innovations MS Office ever had. Hell, Ribbon UI was stolen from Vista.

hi andie! I saw your post and you seem to be very knowledgeable about the behind the scenes of ai programs. can I ask how you got into tech? it’s something I’ve been looking to get into
Hello my love!! I only have a high-level understanding of what's going on lol but I'm glad it sounds like I know what I'm saying. :3
I happened to fall into the industry because of my linguistics background; I got brought in to help build out data sets for earlier, more deterministic versions of AI models. But now we're pivoting as an industry to statistical models and so I'm learning more as we go.
Anyway I started from a data set generation role, but there are other, more common ways to get into tech companies. I'm assuming since you asked you don't have any software or computational backgrounding?? As I think those channels into tech roles are pretty straightforward lol.
I work in AI specifically so I'm approaching this from that perspective, but depending on whether you want to get into social media, online retail, or software/application development, the advice might be different. But for start ups and companies focusing on the pivot to generative AI models like LLMs, I foresee a couple of non-technical roles that would get you into the company, and you'd have to build up your understanding from there to move on into other more technical roles!
#1) Project management roles. I'd look through google jobs to see what tech companies are hiring project managers and read through to see what the projects are. It's likely companies will need to build up targeted data sets to patch holes in LLM performance so I foresee a fair number of project manager or coordinator roles who are responsible for managing creation of those targeted data sets. There might also be a need for non-English data to seed universal models, so there might be roles managing translations as well. You probably don't need to be able to code or translate yourself, but you will need to be able to interface with the roles that do.
#2) Analyst roles. If you're freshly-graduated and not ready for a management role, that might also leave you with a data-set creation role like my former one. I think companies usually title these with "analyst" roles, like data analyst/translation analyst, etc etc, but your responsibilities would be something like directly translating data or directly transforming data in whatever way the models need it to formatted to consume.
#3) Customer trust roles. Since this is new tech I also imagine companies are going to need to build up bug fix teams who are directly responsible for addressing issues with their models. This might take the form of customer trust roles who are responsible for addressing privacy issues that arise (like imagine a customer account number somehow making it into the model), dealing with sensitive content (depending on how the model is trained it could pick up on some not-PC or not-SFW language...) or otherwise correcting false data the model gives (LLMs are prone to "hallucinating" incorrect information because they are trained on such a wide swath of data). So I'd look for "support" roles or anything with "customer trust" in the title!!
Anyway that's what I can think of for now lol. Hope this is helpful!!

Apple M4 Chip and iOS 18: A Look at Next-Level Performance
Tumblr media
Apple M4 Chip Rumors Apple M4 Chip Features
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple will add M4 Chips to its Macs in late 2024. Artificial intelligence performance will be improved by the Apple M4 Chip. Apple intends to launch its first Macs equipped with the Apple M4 Chip family of CPUs in that time frame.
M4 Chip Release date Since Apple unveiled the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max CPUs all at once in October of last year, it’s probable the Apple M4 Chip range may be shown around the same time. Gurman said the M4 will be arriving in late 2024 and early 2025 for all Macs.
The first to get Apple M4 Chips are the iMac, low-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, elite 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. The 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models will get them in springtime 2025, the Mac Studio’s in mid-2025, and the Mac Pro later in.
Apple is approaching manufacture of the Apple M4 Chip, which will come in at least three flavours. Donan, Brava, and Hidra are the codenames for the entry-level, mid-range, and top-tier chips, respectively. The low-end Mac mini, MacBook Air, and entry-level MacBook Pro will all utilise the Donan chip, while the higher-end MacBook Pro and MacBook mini will use the Brava chip.
Since the Hidra chip is made for the Mac Pro, it is likely a “Ultra” or “Extreme” category processor. With regard to the Mac Studio, Apple is testing variants that include an M4 Brava CPU variant that is likely of a better calibre than the M4 Pro and M4 Max “Brava” chips, as well as an unpublished M3-era chip.
The maximum amount of Unified Memory that M4 models of Mac desktop computers might handle is 512GB, a significant increase above the present cap of 192GB.
Although TSMC, an Apple supplier, is expected to use an enhanced version of the 3nm process for increased performance and power efficiency, the M4 chips will be constructed using the same 3-nanometer technology as the M3 processors. Apple also intends to include a much enhanced Neural Engine with more cores for AI applications.
This week brought news of Apple’s hardware roadmap. They plan to release a complete portfolio of M4-based Macs later this year, along with various iPad models, and should solidify plans for the introduction of newer iPad Pro and iPad Air models next month.
As they examined how things are going with the iPhone 15 Pro now that it is halfway through its flagship lifetime, they also heard some new rumours regarding iOS 18, which is scheduled to be introduced at WWDC in a few months. Continue reading below for all the information on these tales and more!
As to the source, the M4 series of CPUs will be rolled out later this year to the MacBook Pro and iMac lines, and during 2025, additional models like as the MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are anticipated to get updates as well.
According to a recent report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, other models with M4 series CPUs would be introduced in the next year, after the initial release of the first ones later this year. Gurman provided a more detailed plan for these Macs in his Power On email today.
Gurman reaffirmed that the Mac Studio and Mac Pro would be compatible with Apple’s internally tested M3 Ultra processor, but he added that it is “all but assured that at least some of Apple’s high-end desktops” would forego the M3 chip series.
Gurman said that Apple would highlight the M4 processor series’ artificial intelligence capabilities.
iOS 18 iOS 18 Features
According to reports, Cloud Servers Won’t Be Used for Apple’s First AI Features in iOS 18
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s initial round of new AI capabilities for iOS 18 won’t depend on cloud servers at all.
In the Q&A part of his Power On email today, Gurman said, “It appears that that the first set of features will work entirely on device as the world watches Apple’s big AI unveiling on June 10.” “That indicates that there is not a cloud computing element to the organization’s large language model, the application that enables the new capabilities.”
iOS 18 update Gurman predicts that Apple will likely continue to provide certain cloud-based AI capabilities powered by Gemini from Google or another supplier. Regarding possible collaborations in generative AI, Apple is said to have spoken with businesses including China’s Baidu, OpenAI, and Google. Although it is uncertain whether Gemini or another chatbot will be directly incorporated into iOS 18, it is not anticipated that Apple’s ChatGPT like chatbot would be included in iOS 18.
Given that Apple supply chain experts, like Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, have said that the business is aggressively buying AI servers, it is plausible that Apple may eventually provide some of its own cloud-based generative AI capabilities.
New generative AI capabilities for the iPhone’s Spotlight search function, the Siri, Safari, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Numbers, Pages, Keynote, and other apps are reportedly coming with iOS 18. Previously, Gurman stated that generative AI would let Siri answer more difficult inquiries and auto-complete phrases in Messages.
iOS 18 release date At WWDC, which runs from June 10 to 14, Apple is likely to reveal iOS 18 and other software improvements.

Computer Language
Computer languages, also known as programming languages, are formal languages used to communicate instructions to a computer. These instructions are written in a syntax that computers can understand and execute. There are numerous programming languages, each with its own syntax, semantics, and purpose. Here are some of the main types of programming languages:
1.Low-Level Languages:
Machine Language: This is the lowest level of programming language, consisting of binary code (0s and 1s) that directly corresponds to instructions executed by the computer's hardware. It is specific to the computer's architecture.
Assembly Language: Assembly language uses mnemonic codes to represent machine instructions. It is a human-readable form of machine language and closely tied to the computer's hardware architecture
2.High-Level Languages:
Procedural Languages: Procedural languages, such as C, Pascal, and BASIC, focus on defining sequences of steps or procedures to perform tasks. They use constructs like loops, conditionals, and subroutines.
Object-Oriented Languages: Object-oriented languages, like Java, C++, and Python, organize code around objects, which are instances of classes containing data and methods. They emphasize concepts like encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism.
Functional Languages: Functional languages, such as Haskell, Lisp, and Erlang, treat computation as the evaluation of mathematical functions. They emphasize immutable data and higher-order functions.
Scripting Languages: Scripting languages, like JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby, are designed for automating tasks, building web applications, and gluing together different software components. They typically have dynamic typing and are interpreted rather than compiled.
Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs): DSLs are specialized languages tailored to a specific domain or problem space. Examples include SQL for database querying, HTML/CSS for web development, and MATLAB for numerical computation.
3.Other Types:
Markup Languages: Markup languages, such as HTML, XML, and Markdown, are used to annotate text with formatting instructions. They are not programming languages in the traditional sense but are essential for structuring and presenting data.
Query Languages: Query languages, like SQL (Structured Query Language), are used to interact with databases by retrieving, manipulating, and managing data.
Constraint Programming Languages: Constraint programming languages, such as Prolog, focus on specifying constraints and relationships among variables to solve combinatorial optimization problems.

Most universities are not particularly interested in students who approach college as the 13th grade—just the next step on a path laid out for them by their parents since before they were born. They instead seek out students who demonstrate passion and curiosity, especially about their chosen field of study.
In your college applications, it’s important that you demonstrate your interests (not just state what they are, but show them at work in your life) and that those interests inform your prospective major. You can and should demonstrate your interests in your college essays, your activities lists, and even in your transcripts.
Here are some specific tips on how to prove you’re invested in your intended major:
1. TAKE AP, IB, AND HONORS COURSES IN THAT FIELD
If your high school offers advanced courses in a field you’re passionate about, take those courses. Honors, AP, and IB credits demonstrate that you’ve devoted ample time and energy to a given field.
I would also recommend approaching advanced classes from the opposite direction. If you’re like most high school students, you’re not yet sure what you want to major in or what your academic interests are. Take advanced classes in subjects that you perform well in. You might find that these courses create entirely new interests for you that weren’t there before.
Throughout high school and college, you will likely develop new passions and a deeper understanding of what you love. Advanced courses are one of the ways in which you can discover what those passions might be.
2. JOIN A STUDENT ORGANIZATION … OR START YOUR OWN
Interested in computer science? Join a coding club at your school. Or, if none exists, create one. If you’re interested in something—whether it be coding, poetry, chess, or pottery—chances are there are other students at your school who are interested, too.
You can demonstrate passion for a field or cause by joining an organization on campus and working your way up the ranks to, say, secretary or even president. You can also demonstrate initiative and leadership by starting an organization of your own.
Not sure where to start? Ask a counselor or teacher at your school about how you might get something new off the ground. With the right support, you can develop your interests and set yourself up for a strong college application.
3. JOIN A CLUB AND VOLUNTEER
You can also look beyond the walls of your school for club and volunteer opportunities. Join a mystery book club or a Spanish conversation club at your local library branch. Volunteer as an elementary school assistant at your local school district. There are so many possibilities that you can find with just a quick Google search.
4. TAKE FREE ONLINE CLASSES
There are a ton of free online courses on subjects ranging from psychology to political philosophy, from computer science to principles of accounting.
You can find courses on the iTunes U app, many of which include syllabi and course readings alongside lectures. There’s a drove of Massive Open Online Courses available, many of which will even provide a certificate for completing the course. MIT hosts a wide range of free courses online, such as this Introduction to Computer Science and Programming in Python.
Many of these free online courses are offered by prestigious universities and taught by some of the most renowned faculty in their respective fields. By completing one of these courses, you can get a head start on university-level work and develop a new or existing passion.
5. CONTACT AN EXPERT
Do you live near a university? If so, reach out to faculty members to ask if they might be interested in your volunteering as a lab or research assistant, or even if you could stop by just to ask them some questions during their office hours. You might receive no response from a number of professors, but you would be surprised by how many would be more than happy to at least discuss what they do and why.
Along the same lines, if you’re passionate about business, reach out to local business owners. You might even find opportunities for employment. At the very least, you’ll gain vital insights into the kind of work you might want to do in college and beyond.
6. READ, WATCH, AND LISTEN ON YOUR OWN
Subscribe to The New Yorker, or The Economist, or Wired, or any number of magazines focused on literature and culture, or economics, or technology, or whatever it is you want to major in. Watch documentaries. Listen to podcasts. Finding media that will fuel your passion and leave you informed has never been easier.
The kind of knowledge you can gain from reading, watching, and listening first-hand cannot be matched by second-hand commentary. No visit to Sparknotes, or advice from your uncle, or other kind of second-hand knowledge can stand in for the real thing. Hearing or reading about the thing is no match for hearing or reading or doing the thing itself.
With a novel in your hand or even a computer science course on your screen, don’t just be a passive consumer—take notes not only on the content, but your reactions to it. What makes you excited? What leaves you confused? What gets you frustrated?
By staying engaged in a field of study, you shouldn’t only learn new information. You should also learn a lot about yourself.

LED PCB Assembly
What is the LED Circuit Board assembly?
Generally, LED PCB assembly is considered to be a circuit board that has the LED components soldered to it. The LED is soldered to the printed circuit board and features a chip that creates the light as electrically connected. A thermal heat sink and a ceramic base are used to bond the chip. Not all the PCB products can be used in Led industry, as an LED PCB is easy to create a high volume of heat, but making it hard to cool with traditional methods. For this reason, metal core PCB is widely used in LED application because of their enhanced ability to dissipate heat, especially aluminum pcb is often used to fabricate PCB for LED lights.
We’ve had great LED PCB assembly experiences with top LED chips to brand such as Cree, Luxeon, Osram, Nichia, Lumileds, MLS, EVERLIGHT, Samsung, LG, Seoul., etc. PCB LED lights can be incorporated into numerous lighting applications due to their combination of excellent energy efficiency, low cost and maximum design flexibility.

• Commercial lighting LED PCB Assembly
LED PCB Assembly specification
Number of layers for LED PCB
These layers are made up of aluminum and magnesium, but now have Copper base material  and Ceramic base materials for LED PCB industry, we can meet it.
Aluminum LED PCBs stand out among other PCBs because it has a good insulation characteristic and has a better machinery performance, the cheap cost is one important factor too.
Types of layers for LED PCB Assembly
Normally, the base layer is made using aluminum alloy metal.
This aluminum alloy substrate used in making the base makes it ideal for through-hole technology which transfers and dissipates heat.
A thermal insulation layer is made using some ceramic polymer which has good viscoelasticity characteristics.
It is highly heat resistant and protects the PCB against heat and mechanical stress.
The circuit layer, which is covered by a copper foil which can range from one to ten ounces.
LED Board type- single or in panel
Some boards are shapeless. For this reason, LED PCB panels are used. This reduces time, labor production and testing time.
Some LED PCB Assembly is done on a single board while others are done on panel boards.
Tumblr media
LED PCB Assembly Process
Roughly, the PCBA process can be divided into theses phases: soldering paste printing > SMT (surface mounted technology) > reflow soldering > AOI (automated optical inspection)> THT (through-hole technology) > wave soldering > touch-up and cleaning > IC-programming > FCT (functional tests) > aging testing.
Below we show you the process.
Step1. Summarizing Project Information
Before contacting your supplier, make sure you have all the project information. Suppliers will need info following for quoting LED PCB assembly:
Gerber
BOM
LED PCB specification
Quotation quantity
Once you have gathered these information, you can contact us and request for a quote.
Of course, you can also provide the schematic, LED PCB Assembly pictures and even samples to us. The more details they have, the more accurate the supplier’s quotation will be.
Step2. Discussion and details about custom LED PCB Assembly
Different projects will have different requirements. Remember the special requirements mentioned in step 1? That’s going to be the focus of this session. Equipment and engineering capacity will not be identical between suppliers. Make sure your supplier has the equipment to produce and assemble major components and the corresponding testing capabilities.
For example, some vendors don’t have X-ray testing equipment, which means they can’t check the mount quality of BGA chips. Outsourcing this step will increase risk and cost. That’s what you don’t want.
Also, pay attention to time taken by the supplier to quote. Motherboards often contain hundreds or even thousands of components, and they are supplied by different manufacturers. To ensure the quality of the components, the supplier sourcing team will make multi-inquiries from these manufacturers or authorized suppliers to match customer’s requirement, which usually takes 2-3 business days, and even longer for some scarce chips. Therefore, if your project is complex and the supplier quotes you within few hours, double check with them.
Step3. Sample and feedback
After confirming the PI, the supplier will usually provide pre-production samples for your approval. At the same time, the supplier will also confirm with you the logistics plan of the bulk goods. Make sure they understand your shipping requirements, including details on packaging, customs clearance, taxes, etc.
For us to have a successful LED PCB Assembly process, its functions must be defined. Compliance requirement is defined to reduce the effect when components are selected.
The Bill of Materials is then generated from the information installed on the LED PCB.
All this information is used to assemble components which are identified from MOB to the LED PCB.
After that, the routing of traces is determined to each component, based on the size, shape of the circuit board and location of connectors.

Data mining
Tumblr media
1.What's Data mining ?
Datamining is the process of extracting and discovering patterns in large datasets involving methods at the intersection of machine learning, statistics and database systems. Datamining is interdisciplinary subfield of computer-science and statistics with overall goal of extracting information (with intelliegent methods) from a data set and transforming the information into a comprensible structure for further use. Data mining is the analysis step of The KDD process "Knowledge discovery in database".
2.What's KDD process ?
KDD process is known as "Knowledge Discovery in Database".It"s a multi-step process of finding knowledge from large data sets and emphasizes the high-level application of particular datamining methods. It's of interests to researchers in machine learning, pattern recognition, databases, ststistics, artificial intelligence, knowledge aquisition for experts systems and data-visualization. The picture below defines the different steps of KDD process and each of those steps have an input and output entity. The KDD process can't be executed without beginning on data.
Tumblr media
3.What are the different steps of the KDD process ?
The overall process of finding and interpretting patterns from data involves the repeated application of the following steps mentioned in the graph above :
Selection : we create a target data set by seecting a part of the overall data set as a sample then focusing on a subset of variables on which discovery is to be performed. The result of these step is a subset of data considered as a sample.
Preprocessing : These step of the KDD process takes the target data set as an input then it applyes data cleaning by removing the noise from the input data set then restucturing the data set. The output of these operation is a preprocessed dataset that can be able to be transformed in the next step.
Data transformation : These step takes the preprocessed data as input and tres to find some useful features depending on the goal of the task and reducing dimension to execute an effective learining datamining.
Data mining : in this phase we will descide whether the goal of KDD process is classification, regression, clustering ...etc. Discover the patterns of interests.
Interpretation : Interpretating mined patterns and consolidating discovered knowledge.
4.What are data mining tasks ?
There are several steps that are defined in the sub-process of KDD especially in datamining steps. In Data mining, there are 02 types of data mining that are :
Predictive mining: predective data mining is the analysis done to predict a future event or other data or trends and to predict something will happen in the near future. Predective data mining offers a better future analysis and to make better decisions to add a value in predective analytics like for example predecting the future customer of a defined service, define the future price of oil and gaz in the world market, define the next ill of an international pandemic, define the future political conflict ... etc. There are 4 types of descriptive data mining tasks which are :
Classification analysis : It is used to retrieve critical and pertinent data and metadata. It categorizes information into various groups. Classification Analysis is best demonstrated by email providers. They use algorithms to determine whether or not a message is legitimate.
Regression Analysis : It tries to express the interdependence of variables. Forecasting and prediction are common applications.
Time Serious Analysis : It is a series of well-defined data points taken at regular intervals.
Prediction Analysis : It is related to time series, but the time isn’t restricted.
Descriptive mining : descriptive data mining is to describe data and make data more readable to human beings, it's used to extract information from previous events and data and to discovering an interesting patterns and association behind data. It's also used to exract correlations, relationships between features and finding new laws and regularities based on data. There are four different types of Descriptive Data Mining tasks. They are as follows :
Clustering analysis : It is the process of determining which data sets are similar to one another. For example, to increase conversion rates, clusters of customers with similar buying habits can be grouped together with similar products.
Summerazation analysis : It entails methods for obtaining a concise description of a dataset. For example, summarising a large number of items related to Christmas season sales provides a general description of the data, which can be extremely useful to sales and marketing managers.
Association rules analysis : This method aids in the discovery of interesting relationships between various variables in large databases. The retail industry is the best example. As the holiday season approaches, retail stores stock up on chocolates, with sales increasing before the holiday, which is accomplished through Data Mining.
Sequence discovery analysis : It's all about how to do something in a specefic order. For instance, a user may frequently purchase shaving gel before purchasing razor in a store. It all comes down to the order in which the user purchases the product, and the store owner can then arrange the items accordingly.

Hi, I saw your addition on a post about purchasing a laptop. I’m actually planning on purchasing one soon for the first time (current laptop is seven years old and a college gift). While I overall know about specs and what not because I just want a solid but not insanely expensive gaming laptop (tho ig I’ve mostly just been googling ‘best gaming laptop’), I’ve never heard of this S Mode you’ve mentioned. What is that and what other things should I be aware of, is there like a good link I can educate myself at? I’m planning on this being a very long term purchase, as long as I can make it, so I really want to get it right. Thank you!
A couple things:
I’d start with this lengthy but good post by @ms-demeanor , along with much of her computer talk on her blog. Lots of good stuff about what to look for, what to avoid, how/if you can upgrade, etc. It’s gonna depend a bit on what you use your laptop for, too.
S-mode…where to begin. Here is a decent run-down of what S-mode is. Essentially, it’s a locked in ‘safe mode’ that only allows you to use the Windows store for purchases and downloads. They say it’s for security. It’s really for monopolization. It also uploads all your stuff to their cloud. Where eventually they can lock it behind a paywall if they decide.
S-mode requires fewer computer resources to run…but in doing so it means that many computers that come pre-installed with S-mode may not even be able to run full Windows. To compete with Google’s Chromebooks, which are specifically made not to last so they cheapen out on parts and can offer a lower price point, Microsoft responded with S-mode so PC manufacturers could make comparably priced ‘Windows’ laptops.
That’s not to say a laptop offered with Windows S Mode can’t run the full Windows…but there’s no guarantee. And it will take a number of steps to switch to standard Windows and you can’t switch back if it doesn’t work well.
In general:
Look for laptops by brands with historically good performance and reliability.
Make sure whichever laptop you choose can actually run the full Windows — check Windows’ recommended specs with your prospective laptop.
Find a laptop that matches your lifestyle needs. This seems simple or self-explanatory, but it’s surprising how often people buy a product that doesn’t actually fit their needs. As a metaphor, if you have 4 kids and need a new car, you probably don’t want a sports car but a mini van. It’s not that either is bad, but they have specific purposes. The same goes with computers. If you’re a gamer, look at one of the latest games released, the specs recommended, and find something that well exceeds those specs so you aren’t looking to upgrade in 1-2 years. Similarly, if you are just going to use it for internet browsing, light applications, email, work stuff, etc., you don’t need a gaming laptop or high end graphics card. If you plan to travel with it, do you need a laptop with special security features or durability in case it is stolen, dropped, banged, etc. while commuting?
Don’t ignore the battery life, battery size, and cord length / type. Is it a two piece AC adapter with a standard 3-prong plug? Is it 4, 6, or 9 cell or some other measurement? Some companies keep costs lower by cheaping out on the battery, which to replace or upgrade could easily be another $100+.
Don’t buy Black Friday specials. Just don’t. They are often ‘special batch’ models that often have lower quality or discontinued parts, fewer features, or other oddities.
Don’t buy into add-ons, extended warranties, or other mark-ups. Chances are the warranty won’t cover the damage, failure, or other problem; the repairer will still charge for labor if it covers the parts; they may require you work with specific repairers; and/or they may require you to ship your laptop at your expense to a center, wait for repairs to be completed after a diagnostic review which may again try to deny repairs or blame you for the problem, only for it to arrive back with more or different problems. Warranties nowadays are a way for companies to increase their profit margin, period.
I hope all that helps. Windows is a very different and yet familiar beast compared to 7 years ago. You’ll likely be able to do everything you’re doing now, but may need some time to figure out how to do the same thing with an interface with different organization and visuals.
I’m not going to go into Apple or Linux or Chromebooks or other things here - it’s already a lengthy post and those are full dives into equally lengthy posts. Each have their pros and cons.
And others - feel free to contribute. I’m no expert. I’ve just happened to grow up with and around computers and am just geeky enough to have some deeper than surface knowledge.
