[Comic] Mafia Sitter
I started writing in mid-January to submit to the Global Comic Award 2024 and finally completed it. Continuing from there is a long feedback.
The working time is two months for the main text and two weeks for the cover. Around January 11th, I received a DM from a friend saying, "There's a contest like this," and thought, "The deadline is the end of March... it's impossible for me (I've never drawn a completed comic before)." But it's a comic contest aimed at the world... My art style is only recognized in this contest... I couldn't ignore this contest. I was in the middle of making another piece, but I interrupted it, and I was full of anxiety about whether I could draw a comic in just two and a half months. However, the thought, "Instead of worrying, I should act quickly," came to my mind, and I started writing from January 13th, changing my mindset.
I spent 1 day on the script, plus 1 day typing the dialogue, and started the "completed 1 page per day" lifestyle from January 16th.
The goal was to complete 45 pages, but at the plotting stage, it was about 56 pages. When I actually started drawing the manuscript, the planned page allocation didn't match, and the total number of pages increased to 65. (I learned the importance of page allocation.) At a pace of 1 page per day, I wondered if I would make it by March... (I'm easily bored, I didn't think I could do 1 page per day.) So, I rearranged my schedule to make 3 pages on weekends, which would give me some leeway. This idea turned out to be a big success.
As a result, I achieved 1 page per day and was able to finish drawing all the pages by early March, leaving the remaining time to work on the cover, which is like the face of the comic.
Since I work as a company employee, I had to finish work by 8:00 p.m. to make time for the manuscript, which was a daily pressure. There were times when I finished the manuscript at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. on weekdays. I fell ill. At that time, I felt like giving up. (On the day I fell ill, I slept for about two hours and resumed manuscript production after my condition improved a bit.)
It was truly a life of "pushing myself to the limit", but accomplishing it gave me confidence. 'Oh, I can make a 65-page full-color comic in 2 months.' It became an advantage for me. (I don't want to push myself like this anymore, though... haha.)
Thank you for participating in the survey for the title logo! The survey results leaned towards the left logo. While the left logo was packed with concept, its font style and thickness varied, resulting in imbalance when aligned in a row and making it difficult to use in monochrome. If the left logo had overwhelmingly won the votes, I would have chosen it. However, since the right logo also received a considerable number of votes, I decided to adopt the right logo.
Now all that's left is to see the results on Global Comic Award. I'm really aiming to win. Both the script and the art are amateur-level when viewed separately, but I balanced them out to make them good enough.
It's my first comic work... I really want a lot of people to read it! *If enough people like the comic and want to get a copy of the comic book, I can make and sell it:)

Hi, I came to report to you that your ql music research is rubbing off on me 😅 I was watching ep 2 of Ploy's Yearbook (for Joong and Namtan 😍), when suddenly I recognized a piece of music!! But I couldn't place it, so I tried to remember which series have I watched so many times that I'm familiar with the music. I reached the tentative conclusion that it must be from SIMM or possibly from Hidden Agenda (but I definitely connected it to JoongDunk). Maybe I need to do a complete rewatch of both series to confirm, what a hardship 😂 I just wanted to tell you that maybe aside from being a JD vampire bl truther, this will be your other legacy
oh my god, that's amazing!!!!!! i LOVE to hear that!!!!! i'm actually planning on making a side blog focused on shared royalty free music in thdramas, but that's something that is earliest going to happen in the summer if not in the winter. i wanna work my way through some of my fave shows first, because those are the soundtracks i'm more likely to recognize and i just wanna have them on my google doc before i go put everything in tumblr posts (which is also gonna take forever bc my google doc is currently at 100 pages worth of entries sjkfkjsfdj)
aaaaanyway, re: music in ploy's yearbook
was it by any chance desert caravan by ludvig moulin? i haven't watched ep2 yet (i was actually about to go watch it when your message came in and i couldn't help answering it first kjdkfdg), but i did see a clip of it earlier in jimmy's insta story and the scene had this music in the background. it has come up in episode 1 already as well. if it was this, then good job on connecting it to a joongdunk show because it actually has come up on hidden agenda a couple of times! i'm still missing the last 3 episodes on my music collection, but these are the time stamps so far:
ep1 pt1 - 0:13
ep3 pt2 - 0:20
ep4 pt1 - 4:32
ep8 pt4 - 8:08
And here are the time stamps for ep1 of ploy's yearbook:
ep1 pt1 - 11:10 / 17:41
ep1 pt2 - 1:50
ep2 pt1 - 9:38
ep2 pt2 - 0:27
ep2 pt3 - 3:09
ep2 pt4 - 3:07
you might also have recognized get up on that horse by spring gang as the music that plays in bad buddy at the beginning of ep7 when pat is in the car (ep7 pt1 - 1:20) or also in ep12 when patpran claim they broke up (ep12 pt3 - 3:45). oh but wait, it's definitely connected to joongdunk, you said? well, as it turns out this one has actually come up in star in my mind a lot. like. A LOT:
ep1 pt2 - 5:55
ep2 pt1 - 4:00
ep2 pt4 - 1:02
ep3 pt2 - 1:15
ep3 pt3 - 1:55
ep3 pt4 - 1:17
ep6 pt2 - 1:23
ep7 pt2 - 1:48
ep7 pt4 - 0:48
ep8 pt1 - 4:33 / 5:41
ep8 pt3 - 5:07
and here are the time stamps for ep1 of ploy's yearbook again for reference:
ep1 pt1 - 13:00
ep1 pt2 - 2:26
ep2 pt1 - 8:37
and here, have a bonus because why the fuck not: moonshiner's turn by martin landström. this one has shown up in ep1 pt4 of both bad buddy as well as 23.5 degrees. also found in ep1 of ploy's yearbook at:
ep1 pt1 - 18:53
ep1 pt3 - 6:16
ep2 pt1 - 0:35 / 17:30
well, i'm gonna go watch the new episode now! feel free to check back on this post in a couple of hours, i might edit it or add a reblog with all my findings about the music in ep2 😂
edit:
i've added the ep2 time stamps to the aforementioned ones! and i found new music as well!!
maybe the one you recognized as a joongdunk series music in ep2 was winning hand by ealot. it came up in star in my mind a couple of times:
ep1 pt4 - 3:00
ep2 pt2 - 2:20
ep4 pt2 - 9:16
ep8 pt3 - 4:17
it featured in ep2 of ploy's yearbook at following timestamps:
ep2 pt1 - 16:58
ep2 pt3 - 3:45
and there was some more bad buddy music as well (diggin' the drama by the new fools) and it amazes me that my brain immediately went "we know this!!" considering it showed up in bad buddy exactly one single time (ep7 pt2 - 13:45). bad buddy really has wormed its way into my brain in every single aspect in the last two years huh djkfkjdfg. anyway you can find it in ep2 of ploy's yearbook at:
ep2 pt1 - 11:10
apart from these, there were also two pieces of music that sounded increeeedibly familiar to me but neither shazam nor google could come up with any results! i'm gonna have to click through my "not found" list at some point, maybe they're already there. here are the time stamps if you're curious:
first one i can't find (ep2 pt3 - 2:06)
second one i can't find (ep2 pt3 - 7:09)
this is gonna bug me for a while....

Spy diary
July 1, 20XX, 11:00 PM
Today is the beginning of another stupid work/mission, where I immerse myself in spying on another hero. As a secret agent for a highly classified organization, I must remain discreet about my identity. My objective? To spy on an individual who has no idea about his other identities.
July 3, 20XX, 11:00 AM
My surveillance target is a man who possesses extraordinary abilities like Avengers. By day, he works as a museum employee, blending seamlessly with the ordinary world. But by night, he becomes Moon Knight, who is quite brutal and aggressive.
July 4, 20XX, 2:30 PM
According to the intelligence gathered, Moon Knight's true name is Marc Spector. During the day, he becomes his other identity called Steven Grant, who has no idea that he is an alternate ego. He displays gentle manners and acts like a genuine British. However, once the sun sets and the moon takes its place, a transformation occurs. Moon Knight becomes a formidable force, ruthless and colder than the night itself.
July 3, 20XX, 5:45 AM
It is truly uncanny to witness someone with such distinct dual personalities. Steven's unsuspecting nature during the day contrasts starkly with the commanding presence of Moon Knight at night. I had to exercise caution while capturing photographs of Moon Knight in action, as his ferocity against gang members proved too brutal to preserve.
July 7, 20XX, 8:30 PM
Whenever Moon Knight puts on his superhero outfit, I feel both amazed and scared at the same time. I can't help but wonder about the fabric of his costume. Is it smooth like silk or more like tightly-wrapped bandages? I'm so curious that I find myself wanting to touch it. However, there's also a sense of fear. If Moon Knight were to discover my spying, I'd likely end up on the receiving end of a beating, just like the criminals he deals with (which is not pretty at all).
July 12, 20XX, 6:15 AM
Every morning, when the sun starts to rise, Steven checks his ankle cuffs and the sand around his bed. What he doesn't realize is that Marc Spector fixes it once it gets ruined. Marc works hard to keep their secret lives hidden, and it is obvious that he doesn't want Steven to know that he exists. It's impressive, but also seems really tiring.
July 14, 20XX, 10:00 PM
It's sad to see how much this double life is affecting Steven. He doesn't even realize that he's only getting around 2 hours of sleep each day, which explains the constant bags under his eyes. It's tough on him.
As I wrap up today's entry, Diary, I must admit that I don't enjoy spying on this poor guy. I'd much rather be on a mission to recover powerful artefacts like Loki's staff. Moon Knight is just a small fish in a small pond, and he doesn't possess god-like powers like Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch. So, I fail to see the real danger of this anti-hero.
I have already reported this to my leader so I guess, I just need to wait for the response now.
July 21, 20XX, 10:00 AM
Diary,
I witnessed Steven getting extremely frustrated with Donna from his workplace once again. That woman is truly unpleasant and nasty. While she may not have committed any serious crimes, her mean-spirited behaviour makes her a kind of criminal in her own way. I felt sorry for Steven, so I bought something from his store, hoping it would lift his spirits. He's always so kind, even though he doesn't recognize me since I was inhabiting another person's body. I also suggested a fantastic sandwich place I discovered the other day. He'll probably grab a sandwich on his way home.
Another intriguing revelation came to light yesterday. It appears that Marc has yet another identity, going by the name Jake Lockley. From what I gathered, Jake is the most brutal of them all. It seems he is from Spain and has a penchant for dishing out beatings to criminals. The leader mentioned that he's worth keeping an eye on for at least a year, so perhaps there's more to this Jake character. Unlike Marc, who strikes a balance between using his fists and his weapon, a crescent-shaped boomerang, Jake relies solely on his own physical prowess and doesn't bother with the protective uniform. Strange choice, considering the benefits it could provide against attacks.
Oh, and Diary, I must confess that my neck and shoulders ache from the exhaustive report I had to write yesterday. There were numerous incidents involving Jake's confrontations with various individuals, and detailing them all took quite a toll on my body.
So we may see each other again a bit later.

24 Hour ban from Technology
6:30am, I woke up, had my cup of coffee, and proceeded to hit the gym bright and early. First, I am never at the gym this early, but I decided to switch my day up considering I was trying something new (not technology).
8:00am, I get home, shower, and change, eat breakfast, and do some light book reading. A book that I haven’t finished in like 3 months.
9:30am, after I settled in, I took my dogs for a walk at the dog beach. I decided to take the day off work as I knew that going into work, I had to use technology, so I wanted to make sure that I was doing this experiment correctly with no distractions.
11:45 after spending an hour at the dog beach and playing with my dogs, I decided to have lunch with a friend. I called him and told him to meet me at 12:30 at a place in Huntington Beach, California so that we can catch up and grab some lunch. Told him about my experiment about not using my phone and social media and he agreed to do the same during our lunch hour.
1:45 Around this time, we finished lunch, had a great conversation about life, business goals, family and it was great that both of us were not totally distracted by our phones during that time. We were able to really get into our conversation.
2:30, I decided to take my dogs home, since they had lunch with us, and hit up a local batting cage and take a few swings on some softballs.
4:00, I drove to the grocery store as I wanted to make dinner. I specially made a Peruvian dish that I have been wanting to try for years. It was called Lomo Saltado. I am not Peruvian, but I love their food.
5:30 I start making dinner for my wife and me. As I was cooking, I remembered I had an old radio that I had kept stored that I decided would not interfere with my technology as it only used antenna and had like 4 basic radio stations.
7:30 we eat dinner, I talk to my wife about my day, what I liked about not using my phone and the pros and cons of this experiment.
9:00 we finish dinner, we clean, and get ready for bed. I shower and relax and call it a night.
To be honest, the whole experience was an eye opener for me. I understood that my life can live without the use of technology. I was able to get out in the open and experience the world without my face being on my phone all day. The cons, unfortunately, is that I go to school online and my job is a tech business working with websites, so having to stray away from technology in total would not be possible at all for me. I will continue to monitor my time spent away from my phone in the mornings and right before bed as I think those benefits will outweigh the negatives. Not to say that I cannot be focused with technology, but my focus was strictly on the task at hand, and it made me aware of how distracted we can be using our phone. I would recommend everyone trying it out for at least a day. #nosocialmedia #nointernet #onlyphonecalls

Story time: AKA, how my mornings going.
We got the storm of the century overnight. Snow plastered against the door, roads aren’t plowed, we live on a side street that doesn’t get plowed. The type of storm we got was something called thunder snow, which is extremely rare. This is essentially a thunderstorm with snow instead of rain, meaning not only is it snowing like a bitch but there is now also crazy ass lightning everywhere. Roommate has a 4am shift and almost an hour drive to work.
Roomate wakes me up at 3:00 in the morning because we are snowed in and her car is stuck in the driveway. Me, still in pyjamas, throws on a jacket, grabs a shovel and starts digging. Dead quiet outside. Dark as all hell. It’s 3:00 in the bloody morning. Struggled with it for about an hour before we manage to unbury it enough to get it out of the driveway to where it promptly gets stuck 2 feet up the road. Context, we also live at the top of a massive god damn hill (also not plowed), at the bottom of which is a set of stop lights and an intersection. We are literally just trying to get the car back into the driveway at this point, debating calling a tow truck to move us 2 goddamn feet, if we had to do that hill today we were going RIGHT through that intersection, green light or no.
Have pulled out an ice scraper and am now physically scraping the pavement trying to get the tires some form of traction, enough that we can simply move it back to the driveway. Snow is so deep I can barely walk. Have fallen over so many times and my pyjamas are now completely covered in snow. Finally manage to get the car to move forward, at which point I am horrified to try to put it in reverse because we’ve now been out here for an hour and a half and I don’t want it to get stuck again. I’m the one in the car now, my roommate physically pushing the car from behind when I finally get it to move, and I decide my best bet is to just keep it moving. So now there’s me behind the wheel, car shaking and sliding and revving ferociously with it’s just barely gained traction as I drive it around the block, and me praying against all odds that the rest of the goddamn city it still asleep because I literally cannot stop if another car happens to be coming the other way when I go to make the turns at each intersection of road. Roommate is stood outside the house watching the clock debating if she needs to come after me on foot and dig me out on the next street over. Don’t even have my phone on me because I wasn’t expecting to be outside at 3:00 in the morning.
Finally get the car back into the driveway. It’s now 4:30 am, roommate was supposed to be at work half an hour ago, I’m not supposed to start till 9 but my car is now blocked in by hers and lord knows we aren’t trying to move that again. I’ve done my best to shovel out the driveway but it’s still snowing and most of what I started is already covered back in again. At which point we decide we are both taking a snow day and calling in to work, go back inside, put on the kettle. It’s 5 am, I’m boiling us tea, roommate’s made us a platter of grapes and cheese. Roommate’s already called in to work, they were very understanding. We are watching Ratatouille.
7am, haven’t slept. Been up since 3:00 shovelling bloody snow. Not supposed to start till 8:45, but figure I’ll give the boss an early heads up that I will not be coming in today as I physically cannot leave my house. Am also now hella tired and am looking forward to simply sleeping for the rest of the day because I’ve now been up all night.
Manager picks up the phone. I explain all of the above. Tell her that I’ve been up since 3 am shovelling snow, car got stuck on the road, just barely managed to get it back into the driveway, they still haven’t plowed and are likely not going to, I physically cannot get out of the driveway, I don’t think it’s safe to drive right now. She goes “well keep trying, call again in 3 hours to let me know for sure”
What…would you like me to do? Shovel the entire goddamn road? Walk 2 and a half hours in knee deep snow? Descend from the sky’s via helicopter?
8am, get a text from my father. He’s warning me how bad the roads are, giving me the heads up that I’ll need to get up early to shovel if I have to work today. Spectacular advice. Why the hell didn’t I think of that.
He suggests I take the bus, as he knows my streets are never plowed and I likely won’t get my car through (truth). Closest bus stop is over 2 kilometres away, no idea when it comes, streets and sidewalks are still not plowed, not even sure the buses are running today.
Is now 8:30 am. Have been up since 3 am. Have already attempted to call in to work, I just want to sleep for 10 bloody minutes. At which point my father goes “stay there, I’ll come drive you to work”. Which gives me half an hour to be up, dressed, packed an overnight bag, and taken precisely one bite of a 3 day old pastry that I found in the kitchen before I’m once again trudging through the snow because I have to walk to my dads car 2 blocks over because roads are still not plowed.
9:30 am. Get to work. Have reached a state of exhaustion where I am so tired that I almost have energy. I brought a giant ass thermos of the strongest caffeinated tea I own. I also bought 2 Monster energy drinks, each of which contains about 160mg’s of caffeine. Why the fuck are there so many customers here.
10:45 am. Manager has already given me 2 carts of stock to do and plans for more. Have just barely managed to finish the paperwork, which miraculously, by whatever grace of higher power there is, all managed to be in order for once. It’s still relatively slow, have only had a couple of drop offs and a guy buying an envelope for a birthday card, but that’s it. Am praying against all odds that nobody wants to ship anything Priority Worldwide today. I’ve discovered 6 days worth of mail transfers that haven’t been touched because lord knows I’m the only person who ever does any goddamn paperwork.
11:30 am. Starts getting busy. Had a customer with the most complicated order on the planet. He’s picking up, dropping off, shipping out to multiple different countries, he’s got customs owing on his package, he needs a return envelope for a different letter. The woman behind him is dropping off a pre-paid package for a business and she looks like she’s getting antsy. I’ve got a lineup, the phone is ringing, and I’m the only one here. Vision starts to go blurry because I haven’t slept in 24 hours. Me, in my sleep deprived haze, have the sudden realization that bee season started 3 days ago and I am in fact viable to receive such, because a big old box of live bees is exactly what I need right now.
3:00pm. I’ve finished my Monster and my tea. I feel no more awake at all, but my insides feel like they are vibrating. My ears are ringing. I am barely conscious, don’t know how I am even standing right now. I want the fucking bees. I would GLADLY take a box of fucking bees over the package I just received. Man comes in with a big box taped all around. He is moving to a different province and he is shipping this to his new address. Doesn’t tell me what’s in it, just says he needs it shipped regular parcel with a signature. Cool. I can do that. Finally something simple, I think. Print out the label, affix it to the box, give him the pin pad, he pays, I give him the tracking information, I pick up the box. Guy goes “yeah this is the last of my firearms that I’m shipping out, they wouldn’t fit in my car.” He walks away. Takes me a second to realize what’s just happened because I haven’t fucking slept.
I am now holding a big ass box of fucking guns.
WTF AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH A BIG ASS BOX OF FUCKING GUNS?!
Am panicking now. I don’t even know the proper protocol for shipping firearms because we are a tiny ass post office and nobody fucking ships firearms. Call my supervisor. “So you know how you’re TECHNICALLY allowed to ship certain dangerous goods by regular mail within the country because it gets delivered by truck and not by air?” “…Yeah?” “How flexible is that rule”
The Manager comes over. The Manager who has never touched a single thing in the post office in her entire life.
“What’s wrong?” “I think this box is full of guns.” “What, THIS box?”
MANAGER PICKS UP THE BOX AND SLAMS IT ON THE COUNTER.
Supervisor arrives, pulls out the manual. There is hope for me yet. Turns out I HAVE actually pretty much followed protocol (literally don’t ask me how). There is a section on shipping firearms and I’ve done pretty much every step correctly accept for the first one, which, given, is actually probably the most important step, which essentially boils down to you need fucking special permission to ship firearms (although it says the customer is supposed to call so I might be off the hook for this one). Not only that, the customer has managed to fuck me over even more with the fact that the return address he wrote down on the label I gave to him is the same as the shipping address. Meaning in order to “send it back” or “refuse it” I would have to return it to sender. Which is the same bloody address as where he’s trying to send it to.
My shift is done at 5. I don’t leave until almost 6. Customers keep lining up despite the fact we are closed. Am severely regretting my decision to let people talk me into coming in to work today.
6:30, I finally get home. The plow has finally dug out the road. The plow which, incidentally, has pushed all of the snow into the base of my driveway. So despite the fact that the roads are now clear, I somehow have MORE fucking snow than I did at 3:00 in the morning.
I am. So fucking exhausted.

Canadian Friend (my only good friend in Taipei rn) has been trying to convince me to rent a room in the building he’ll be moving into (when he gets out of covid home-quarantine, anyways- I dodged a bullet by being too tired to go along to the event where he got it last weekend). I finally went to have a look yesterday, mainly because the Terrible Snoring Man in my hostel dorm came back after a weekend absence. The manager showing the place first tried to interest me in a ground floor room that opened directly to the street, but didn’t do a great job as his first words regarding it were “你怕老鼠嗎?” (‘Are you afraid of [mice/rats]?’ Hard to distinguish because the word is the same for both in Chinese, so I asked if he meant little ones (mice) or big ones (rats) and he was like oh, all of them!)
Anyways this place is back up north in Shilin District, so a 30-45 min commute depending on mode of transport and traffic. I feel conflicted. Pros: living near a friend, which means meeting my socialisation and food quotas. The place is pretty basic, I probably wouldn’t be tempted to lay around in there more than necessary. The landlord is willing to do a half-year lease. Cons: I had initially been willing to commute to school if it meant more affordable and nicer housing, but in this case it’s both far away AND not super nice? I really like being able to walk out the door at 8:20, buy a drink at 7-11, snarf down a breakfast sandwich from a roadside stand en route to school, and be in my seat by 8:35 for an 8:40 start. I’m also concerned about either going into hermit-mode after class or conversely, some light social drinking becoming the road to back to ruin (I got some kind of fruity 3% Japanese soda last time at the night market which doesn’t exactly portend disaster but it’s a slippery slope hey).
I feel hypocritical for settling when I said I was going to get a nice proper apartment this time in Taiwan, and being afraid to commit to anything because I still don’t have a solid plan for the end of the study term I’ve paid for (find a job? keep studying Chinese? university? something else?). I had grand dreams to spend this time making connections, working on my art and living it up, but in the end I’m just tired. Intensive class is intense. How did I manage to forget that it was like this last time too?? I come home and need to take a nap for 2-3 hours, then just Lay There for a while. Suddenly it’s time for dinner (if I can even decide what to eat) and homework and then my alarm to take a shower goes off and what the heck, it’s bedtime already? I mysteriously and consistently wake up at 04:00 now. Last night I had a dream that I was back in Thailand, waiting for a flight to some other destination when I looked at the dream people around me and said “Hey, there’s NO way I’d leave Taiwan while the borders are still closed and I’d have to quarantine again going back in. This is a DREAM I tell you, a DREAM! Where am I really??!” and in a great psychic struggle, my outrage finally resulted in waking up in bed, feeling very vindicated. No, it wasn’t the mutant pet baboons who could speak English that seemed unrealistic and out-of-place to my brain, but being on the wrong side of a closed border does it every time.

stranger things writers guild daily prompt: weed delivery
Tumblr media
😠 starglye | modern au | 987 words
🪻 steve has a bad day and argyle tries to make it better (even when steve is being a jerk)
🍕 content/trigger warnings: implied drug use
Tumblr media
[ 8:09 am ] I’ve been on the clock for nine entire minutes and I want to come home. Does no one do anything in this place?!
[ 9:09 ] Delivery truck canceled. No way this is going to affect my day. Smooth sailing from here on out
[ 12:45 ] Would you wait for me if I went to prison? Murder isn’t a long sentence, right? [ 12:46 ] Or would you like to come kill me? Death needs to happen and soon. I’m not picky anymore.
[ 1:37 ] A woman tried to speak to the manager because I asked her how her day was. She said that was private information and I must be some sort of pervert trying to learn that much about the customers
[ 2:00 ] No lunch break for old Steve today. Who needs food when I’m fueled by the spite of all of the ASSHOLES who come in here. Gluttony or some shit, right? [ 2:01 ] Two more hours left. Two more hours. Two more [ 2:05 ] 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
[ 3:52 ] I hate everyone and everything. [ 3:52 ] I ordered a pizza. If it gets there before I do, don’t eat anything. [ 3:54 ] If you eat so much as one pepperoni, I will absolutely lose it. Pack my car and go back to Hawkins.
[ 4:10 ] Sorry. I didn’t mean that.
Steve was obviously having a bad day. Argyle couldn’t relate. He loved going to work and seeing all the people that came in but maybe the customers were cooler at the pizza place. It was kind of hard to be mean when you were getting pizza.
Things couldn’t have been too bad, though. Pizza wasn’t Steve’s “feel better” food. He liked sweets. Ice cream, candies, and cookies from that one ghost kitchen that made shitty sandwiches. Pizza was probably a peace offering, which made Argyle feel special.
It made him want to do something for Steve too. Argyle’s day was great, he remembered to get the laundry from the washer into the dryer and got to spend the rest of the time playing video games. He didn’t deserve a feel-better pizza.
So, he texted a friend to call in a favor, sent another to his coworker to leave the pizza at the door, and went off on a walk. Steve needed something special and there wasn’t much Argyle could buy him that would help. Money wasn’t everything though.
It didn’t take long to “borrow” flowers from neighboring houses. By the time Argyle had walked the block, he had more than he could hold in his hand. Carefully selected flowers in a variety of colors and sizes were put together in a good-looking bouquet. There wasn’t a heart black enough to hate this.
Argyle was already mentally putting them in a soda bottle to sit in the middle of the table where they were supposed to eat meals. They never did, the couch was way more comfortable, but it made the house look grown up. Fresh flowers would really make it look grown up. Probably make it smell amazing too.
He must have been excited because Argyle managed to beat Steve and the pizza home. Following through on the mental plan, he readied up the flowers. Excitement building for how impressed Steve was going to be. He was definitely going to love this and Argyle couldn’t wait to show him.
The pizza beat Steve. Argyle listened to the orders and carried it right to the table. He didn’t even peek inside to see what it was though this likely wasn’t the time Steve decided to deviate from the norm.
Thankfully, Steve wasn’t very far behind the food. Looking like he fought a war to get him, Steve threw all his stuff on the ground and struggled to get his shoes off, grumbling the whole time. Argyle’s eyes bounced from the beautiful table of things to make Steve feel better and the grumpy man he dated.
“I gotta find a different job,” Steve said, blowing right past Argyle and to the fridge, looking at the shelves for a cure for capitalism.
“We can check for postings later,” Argyle encouraged. Motioning to the table, he grinned. “I got you something.”
Steve looked where Argyle’s hand directed him to. “I ordered that. You just took it from the guy.”
“No, look closer, man.”
The eye roll wasn’t necessary but Argyle decided not to say anything as Steve tried to figure out what he was looking for. Giving him a little help, Argyle leaned in towards the makeshift vase.
“Ah, weeds. Sweet. I love them,” Steve deadpanned, turning his attention back to the fridge and whatever mystery item he was looking for.
“I’m pretty sure some of them are real flowers.”
“Mrs. Carmen will kill you if she finds out it was you messing with her garden.” Settling on one of the cans of flavored water, Steve slammed the fridge closed and went to grab a plate. “She won’t,” Argyle said with a shrug. Enthusiasm leaked out of him and he didn’t know what to do. There wasn’t a way to make this better.
When Steve approached his dinner, Argyle reached out and pulled Steve against him. “You gotta let it go, dude. I mean, it’s how they win, right? Get you so bogged down you’re only thinking about work. Even at home.”
Steve fought relaxing, gripping tight to his anger and frustration. “It just sucked so bad.”
“Right on, yeah. It does that sometimes though. We got you good things, we’ll chill and watch movies, I don’t know, man. Don’t let ‘em ruin your night. And we got the best stuff, cool stuff here to make you forget about that shit.”
“Pizza and…flowers?” Steve said with a condescending laugh.
“I couldn’t afford a whole flower delivery.”
“So you went with a weed delivery service? Budget friendly.”
“Nah, that hasn’t come yet. I just went and picked those.”

Monday, March 4th: A schedule and its lessons
6:00 am: woke up weirdly alert- washed face and added the serum and sunscreen and deodorant that I got shipped from Geologie.
Lesson: Always check to make sure you cancel your subscriptions or you will end up with a fuck ton of unneeded products. Also are we sure serums do anything? Either way, I smell fucking great.
6:15 am: Nespresso coffee and doughnut
Lesson: Buying coffee pods saves you an obscene amount of money, doughnuts soak up a lot of caffeine so you don't immediately shit your pants.
7:00: Hard hour of organizing around the fact that the dumbass Kellogg's CEO said on TV that poor people should just eat cereal for breakfast...while jacking up prices. I assume I will soon be having to do that when the company goes up in boycotting flames. "Let them eat cake". Fucking idiot.
Lesson: TBH I was already a General Mills girl.
7:20: 20 minutes of hip stretching yoga.
Lesson: Exercise wakes you up. My hips don't want to flex or be told to flex.
7:40-8:30: Dropped off rent check and walked to TJ's in pursuit of the lost ingredient from my TikTok inspo. They still don't have it. Got some cardio at least. Wore my yellow spandex and my boobs were boobing.
Lesson: Trader Joe's is a beautiful fiction. I will never be Tik Tok glam.
8:30-9:00: Work? Maybe? This hour is lost to me but I know I didn't scroll anything.
Lesson: Be more present
9:15: Unloaded the dish rack, vacuumed (ew, I don't do that nearly enough), and washed new dishes while listening to "The Daily Jay". His advice was before any endeavor or journey to emotionally pack what you need along with what you physically pack. TBH I usually love him but this was a pretty dumb way to stretch "remember to be patient when away from your house" into seven minutes.
Lesson: Remember to pack "non-judgement" when listening to the Calm app you spend too much money on.
10:00: Hung out with Makenna as we recapped our weekends.
Lesson: Sharing is caring.
11:00: Hung outside with Blue while reading a new novel, a Spy Rom/Com Thriller by Ally Carter.
Lesson: I may be too cynical for rom-coms. I want to love it but the sweetness is giving me cavity. Trying to learn to enjoy it though. It is cute.
Changed into my fire outfit-of-the-day:
Fitted denim midi-dress, brown booties, simple necklace with a single pearl
11:45: Went to Pangea Outpost and spent a private amount of money on the following tchotchkes:
A kismet framed drawing of a Holly Golightly-styled women (also looking for a rich man to save her) lounging on a dark green couch (exactly like ours), a cat on her back (like Blue), and smoking a cigarette (call it a dad grass joint). It was actually wild because I found this art online and posted it to my story a few days ago and then there it was!
A framed drawing of a naked woman sitting in a chair with palm fronds in the background and a giant sunhat obscuring her face and breasts.
A framed line drawing of a hand and female form holding a book
A "wind and sea" street sign
A candle that smells like summer
I then reorganized the shelves by our front door to look beachy and chic- it's a 100% improvement.
Lesson: Money is never wasted beautifying your home. Anything that was ugly for 4 years can be transformed in under 15 minutes.
12-3: Work, lounging in the sun, reading.
Lesson: Fast responses are 40% or a work day, the other 60% is filling out excel.
3:15: Journaled. It feels like I have lived one thousand years. It has been nine hours.
Lesson: I like my little life.

Notes:
A great group of strong, athletic girls here today. Nice to look at too. Especially Sam's Daughter, Reagan. Painfully shy, like Sam. HAH !! That's a Lie.
Truthfully, there were a dozen girls here and they were a wonderfully fun bunch. Three of them are named KATI, which made name calling easier for me. Allison B used to come here in her past, but that was before she got a little busy with 2 kiddo's and one more coming in 10 weeks. Allison B does STREET PARKING at home, which I highly approve of.
Big Lew was here, 1st day post-op from having an Hair-Ball removed from his belly button. That's Umbilicus for Herb. He wore a girdle, sat on the swing, watched the girls, and pretended to Coach them, while reminding them that he is a Level-2 Coach every 2 minutes.
It's always humbling to watch the boys study the workout board for 30 seconds, then re-arrange all the events to suit themselves (HE HAS THIS ALL WRONG) after I have pondered it for lo' these last 10 consecutive days AND this very morning having had a cleansing test-run class merely 1 hour before their arrival while they were just waking up with drunken hangovers. "Oh look !!! If you just do the entire WOD backwards it works perfectly", like The Beatles Abbey Road Album. I used to get a migraine watching the boys (It's ALWAYS the boys) totally GLOM things up, but now that I have incipient Alzheimer's my Cerebral Cortex has shrunk which allows my skull to accommodate without increasing pressure.
In the after-WOD, the girls and Bernie were engaged in a discussion about the 5 types of "Love Language". I think Kayla instigated this as an evaluation of her most recent what-ever-it-is. It was all alien lingo to my ears. Kayla did bring me a present of Iced Coffee without ice. Apparently bringing presents is one of the approved "Love Languages" which Kayla just disproved.
Kayla's what-ever-he-is couldn't attend todays' workout because "He got a big bite on his leg at the Thursday wine and snacks party that's all swollen and infected". I prolly will get blamed, but I'm curious if the infected lesion is anywhere near the newly injected and inflamed but colorful Tattoo on his upper thigh near his grundel ?? The Tattoo is a self-reward from doing a Tri-athlon recently (not even a CrossFit sport)(did he finish?)(Place?)(Time?). The Tattoo is about 8 inches X 12 Inches and is a cute Chattanooga Choo-Choo. Kayla loves his choo-choo train.
Sunday at 0730 and 0930. A change in our glorious weather is in the offing. Possible rain and much cooler.
If anyone ran in the Arboretum today and noticed the freshly painted distance numbers, you can thank Rodney and Jon who carried a can of International Orange paint on their morning run.

SITREP: CROFTERS RIGHTS, 5th AUG 2023
Location: 117-119 Stokes Croft, Cotham, Bristol BS1 3RW
______________________________________________________________
Set times:
Kurt Alexander: 7:30
Average Tweed: 8:15
Sweet Geranium: 9:00
Johnny Applesauce: 9:45
______________________________________________________________
Morning: I woke up remembering a dream I had until the sudden reality of the fact that it was show day set in. I had a fairly slow morning. I had spent the week prior chugging lemon and ginger tea due to my fear of getting ill being realised by a tickle in the back of my throat. I printed off two copies of the setlist. I also figured out a way to load tracks onto my loop pedal without having to play the track in full into a jack lead. I set everything up downstairs, my pedalboard, amp and guitars. then waited for the house to go quiet as my family left for lunch.
I ran through the set fully once and ran through it again without singing as I was worried about hurting my voice. I ate a chicken wrap and packed up the car
______________________________________________________________
Travel to the venue: This show was different to the last. I was getting a lift with my parents as it was a Saturday and my dad wasn't working. we left around 3:15.
I and my sister made a stop at Tesco for some honey and elastic bands. We found the elastic bands straight away but there seemed to be absolutely no trace of honey anywhere in this Tesco.
We hit traffic almost immediately after joining the M32 but luckily the jam lasted about 15 mins. It made us late but not too late.
______________________________________________________________
Load in and soundcheck
We arrived, me and my sister brought the equipment into the venue and greeted the bassist of sweet geranium
Sound-guy
Name: Giorgio
Giorgio was a nice guy. We set up the stage I talked him through the pedal board and he was super chill about everything. I had also brought with me a cassette player and had loaded up a drum track for Eat you alive onto it. I asked for Giorgio's opinion on this and he was super supportive.
Note: Giorgio mentioned to me after Luke's (Average tweed) soundcheck that he was super hungry. I asked if he wanted me to get something from a local supermarket when I go to get myself some food and he told me he had a pizza on the way with a look of happy surprise, as though he had forgotten about the pizza until the very moment he told me.
Average Tweed arrived and it was really good to be playing on the same bill as him again!
____________________________________________________________
Pre-show
I met Charlotte and nick outside before the gig and they very kindly gave me a good luck card which has now found a home on the shelf of my desk for the foreseeable future. I sat with them for a bit and spoke about the day they had just spent in Bristol. Complimented Nick on his new ear piercing and then began my almost ritualistic dart around the venue.
Three friends from work also came to this gig which was amazing.
About half an hour before my set a group of around 10 drunk people came into the room. They made a habit of asking me and Luke if they could get up and play one song. They did make me nervous to play but in all fairness, they were really supportive.
______________________________________________________________
The Set
Another sweaty one I'm afraid but a fun one none the less. I was playing two songs I hadn't done live before and a brand new song I had written 2 weeks prior.
I struggled through the first three songs in the set due to nerves but then it got fun.
I asked Nick to hold the cassette player which I think worked well and it may be something I try a little more in future.
I had two people in the audience clapping during the new song which I've never had before and I wish I had caught them after the gig to thank them for that. While going from eat you alive to the new song I put my capo down somewhere and completely forgot where I had put it after I hit play on the intro track for choke giving me about 30 seconds to look for it but I found it.
Setlist:
TENDER.VIOLENT.QUEER
INVERSE
IT'S ALL IN THE WAY SHE MOVES
EAT YOU ALIVE
TO OBSERVE THEIR FACES, 1984
CHOKE
ENCORE: AUTUMN
______________________________________________________________
Post show
I've come to realise now that I am completely useless for at least 15mins after a show. I need to have time to come down and I need to apologise to my friends from work as although I don't remember my brief interaction with them after the set I doubt It was very scintillating
After I had had a chance to calm down I stuck around to watch the other sets. Had a nice chat with Luke and then we left
Me and Nick got food we all hopped in Nick and Charlotte's car and went back to theirs. I slept on their couch

Together it's a huge number of things to do now and we have to write faster he says and Thor Freya to do too
There's a huge war going on and we need to discuss it but this is not the form he says discuss it and come up with what to put here I do agree with him now
-is 100,000 people in Charles county it's like 3 million ring 5 million ring and seven octillion and 8 octillion from the north and or south and they're getting mowed down and this is like every hour after time there won't be any of them here no they're coming in by ship to Miami and Tampa and he keeps storming all over the place I'm being assholes and trying to play devices I'll tell you what they need to be stopped they're trying to blow the place up and we want them out of here it's not a nice place
-we have some other things to say that there I'm asking for an invasion they're amassing and they're doing it at the five points and see air and so today and they're getting ready what about space some of that
-other things you're doing and they're not very bright people they're annoying my husband to constantly and put in every report and I rate it and I say it's pretty bad and I do it all the time and today Phil and I wrote up this huge thing and it felt bad and fell asleep and they came in and talked to me and said we're helping and we can't stop it all the time and explain what and I said what is this and it was this huge thing going on today with the government now with them driving around circles they were doing things to people and they got the Max in a bind. So I heard you and then the max are notified and they said this is great it's what I've been saying so they should they showed each other and got a system together and then they figured out something they're doing it because the road work and they're bothering people and using it as an excuse and they checked the road work out and she's assholes doing it so you want him out of the government and that's what they're doing all over the place there's a huge mistake and my daddy says the last three lines and a huge error cuz they're exposed to stuff and they keep doing it and that was smack and some more
-The invasion will start when the fleet arrives they say that's about 8:00 a.m. tomorrow that's when my husband should be trucking out it's about 8:45 and really the whole fleet will be there at 11:00 so it's going to be right at the time when he's going up and when he gets there and right after he gets there so we expect a whole bunch of warlock at the mall
We're going to publish now makes his life easier

Tuesday, 01/10/2022, past 12 am
Last nights dream(s): I think I might’ve been an assistant of some sorts, like the way Sophie is for Howl. Again, I can’t remember much.
Where I went: I’m still at Sheridan Res, I went to school for class. From 8-11 am, I had painting with Gillian, from 11-2 I had Prof. studies with Lynn <3, and then I came back to Res for lunch. And from 3-6 I had a class with Marco.
What I ate: For a quick breakfast, I just had some water and my homemade Japanese milk bread. For lunch, I finished the rest of my milk bread, had leftover instant noodles, biryani, cookies, and a Vietnamese coffee. For dinner, Maddy and Lacie came over and we ordered Vietnamese food. I had a chicken curry.
What I did: I woke up at about 6:45 am, but stayed in bed until 7:30 am. I got ready and headed off to painting class for 8:00 am. Gillian talked so much. No offence. It was useful, but we only really got about 45 minutes to make progress on our 3 week painting. I should go over my work from that class. We were introduced to the semester-long assignment, and had a group where we chose our groups. We need to choose a theme. I’m with Sarah! And I finally met Erica, who I do in fact follow on Instagram. Sarah also gave me an adorable mug - it is a gingerbread AND it has a cookie holder. Amazing. Perfect for me. I gave her some homemade cookies. How perfect. How in sync. After, Sarah and I went to Lynn’s class for Professional Studies - the class that I miraculously got into. I’m so happy. But I hope that I can produce better work than I did last term. Like - even better. After Lynn’s lectures, I talked to Lynn!!! We caught up on how our breaks went. Her Barry little dog has infected anal glands. And one of them was surgically removed. Apparently it was a bit of a stressful break :( I told Lynn about my dog sitting experience. She said Cooper was cute hehe. She also talked to Sarah a bit! We all got to talk about Coop a bit. Since Lynn let us out about 50 minutes early from class, I got to have nearly a 2-hour lunch break from 1:15-3:00 pm. That’s when I ate, I listened to a Stephanie Soo video and some music. And then had Marco’s class. It’s pretty interesting. I sat with Chantal! I’m happy to see her - she’s so kind. I hope this is a good semester. During the break, Carrie and I saw a student in our class walking out crying while she had to tell Marco something :( I hope she’s okay. Marco’s class actually seems pretty cool. It’s more about research and ideation. I honestly love that part of the illustration-making process. I’m excited for this course. And we get to keep a journal! After class, I went back to Res and Carrie, Maddy, and Lacie came by and we had dinner together. Maddy ordered Uber eats on her phone this time and I realize I ordered something that was a bit more expensive than the rest of everyone but Maddy only said to give back $10, which is what everyone else gave :( I feel kind of bad. Some of our food spilled because the restaurant only gave us a few bags - the soup was leaking. Lacie fell off her chair. I hope she’s okay. After they left, Carrie and I had tea time. I used my new mug from Sarah! I hope it never breaks or gets lost. I love it. I took a shower. I want to dye my hair again.
Media: Absolutely nothing. Actually maybe Frank Ocean.
Things I worked on: Nothing. I just went to my different classes.
Grateful for: Maddy - again, I know I’m generally just very awkward, but I’m grateful she still talks to me and is just a nice person. Lacie - she’s so chill. Easy to talk to. I hope this semester goes well for her and that she has good luck. Carrie - just grateful for someone who feels like will be a lifelong friend. Always asking me to join her and her friends. Lovely person. Sarah - <3 Soulmate. Ily. I hope everything goes well. Chantal - she is always such a great person to talk to. So welcoming and makes you feel like there’s actually someone interested in you as a person. Lynn - what can I say. Lynn is so awesome. The first teacher here that I’ve felt comfortable enough to talk to and build a friendly relationship with. Love her.
Closing Thoughts: I’m tired. Been up for 18 hours. I found out Frank is performing for Coachella 2023. Maybe I will end up in California for my internship. I’ll do it. I have to. For me.

7 Mindful Tips for Finding More Time In Your Day
Tumblr media
Every one of us has the same 1,440 minutes in our day, right?
So why is it that some people seem to get so much more done?
They have found the secret to finding more time!
"GROAN! Denise, you aren't going to tell me that I have to wake up at 4 in the morning, are you? If so, I am out!"
NO! This article isn't going to delve into surviving on less sleep or getting up at 4:00 in the morning; instead, we are going to focus on time mindfulness as a way that you can find more minutes in your day.
Sounds like a buzzword, right? Everyone is into being "mindful" and "present" these days. Bear with me as we are going to talk about developing mindfulness on how you spend your 1,440 minutes per day in order to increase your efficiency and to help you find you more time to do the things you really want.
In fact, I would be surprised if you weren't able to find at least 60 full minutes every day using my time mindfulness techniques outlined below. Let's dive in!
#1 Morning Mindfulness
Unless you are one of those people who wakes up and heads to the gym immediately, most mornings can be prime time to waste time. The first step is to determine how much time you really need to get out the door every morning if you put your mind to it. I mean really - from waking up, taking a shower, getting dressed, hair, breakfast, how much time do you really need? Let's say if push came to shove, you could be up and out the door in 45 minutes. If most mornings you give yourself an hour-and-a-half, then where is that extra 45 minutes going? That is 3% of your minutes right there spent on what: checking your phone, taking extra time with the cup of coffee, standing under the hot water? Arguably, these things that might take your stress level down, but maybe there are things you could do on your drive instead to accomplish the same thing.
#2 Morning Treat Mindfulness
Uh oh. It's 10:30 AM. Do you have a hankering for a coffee pick-me-up or a mid-morning snack? If you grab the keys and head out the door, think twice! Even if your favorite spot is just down the street, then by the time you get in line, pay, and get back to work, you have likely just spent 15 minutes! Is there a way to tighten that up by bringing something comparable from home or using an electric kettle? It may not be what you really want, but maybe your daily habit can move to a weekly habit and a substitute is found for the other days. Your wallet will thank you too!
#3 Lunch Mindfulness
The same practice applies as the previous section. If you are going out and foraging for lunch every day, that is a big time waster! I plan my lunches for the week each weekend and pre-make them so I don't waste time visiting the store multiple times. Then, in the morning, it is grab-and-go! Super simple. I probably save an hour-and-a-half every week by pre-planning and it is way healthier than anything that can be ordered in a drive-through.
#4 Distraction Mindfulness
Do you find yourself checking the news, social media, your personal email, or watching videos throughout the day? For the next week, allow your natural habits to occur, but take note of how many minutes you are distracted. Five minutes every hour for an 8-hour day can add up to a whopping 40-minutes of time that could be better-spent as focused time.
You can still give yourself a break now and then - even twice a day for 10 minutes beats five minutes an hour!
#5 TV/Streaming Mindfulness
Where or where does the time go? It used to be that there were a few shows we watched, we got around 25 new episodes per year, and we would wait at least a week but often more in-between. Now, with streaming, you can easily consume multiple episodes per night and even stream a whole season within a matter of days. That equates to massive time wasting!
For this category, I do suggest giving yourself a TV/Streaming time budget-per-week and then tracking to make sure you are on track. It is easy to spend three hours per night in front of the TV or your computer streaming. Three hours per night = 12.5% of your total available minutes every day. Whoa! At the end of your life, would you be proud of the fact that you utilized 12.5% of your time watching TV in exchange for:
Spending quality time with your friends and family?
Gaining new experiences?
Learning a new hobby or enjoying the ones you already have?
Or working a little extra to earn some extra money for those bucket-list trips?
Every choice you make in terms of your time gets you closer or further away from your -personal, business, and life goals. Are you spending your time in a goal-oriented way?
Now that we have gotten general personal habits out of the way, it is time to focus on the way you work to see if you can gain some more minutes there!
#6 Task Efficiency Mindfulness
If you have to do a CMA, are you better to do it in the morning, afternoon, or evening? If you are going to make phone calls to past clients, are you better to do that at your brokerage, at home, or in the car? Have you ever started a project and stared at the computer screen, not knowing where to begin, but the next morning you woke up and knew exactly what you had to do? Have to deal with an email that might turn into a legal nightmare?
Knowing the ideal time of day and conditions to take on certain activities is key in learning how to be more efficient with your time. For the next week, pay attention to your attitude and the way you adapt to taking on certain tasks. You should be able to immediately tell if you are in the headspace to do something or not. Evaluate each task as hard, neutral, or easy. By the end of the week, what did you learn about how you are naturally-inclined to handle tasks?
#7 Productivity Mindfulness
While you are keeping your task efficiency top of mind, also note your overall productivity level. Your overall productivity level is affected by your sleep, how you are feeling, emotional things that are going on in your life, your pain level or how uncomfortable you are, hormones, etcetera. During the day, rate your productivity level in the morning, after lunch, around 5:00, and before bed for a week on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most productive you have ever been and 1 being almost asleep. Are there any consistencies in your days? Are mornings great for you or do they lag behind your evenings? Understanding how you operate is also important to finding when you are most efficient and can save time.
Remember, if you are working at only 50% capacity, a task that would take you an hour if you are feeling super-productive will likely take you at least 30 additional minutes. Therefore, if you want to do things in less time, you need to think of yourself like an athlete and make sure you are working as close to 100% as possible by getting quality sleep, hydrating, not eating things that make you sleepy, working in an ideal environment in terms of energy, light, and noise, and minimizing your distractions.
No, you don't need to wake up at 4:00 in the morning to be more productive and gain more minutes. The first step is being more productive and mindful of how you are spending the time you already have.
Spend the next week being mindful and I would love for you to share what you learned and how many minutes you gained with these exercises!
