Would you have any thoughts about the Gaang in a modern au (either with or without bending), especially jobs? I legit love how there’s never been a consensus of how they’d live, especially job wise, in the fandom — except for Katara, she is absolutely a doctor, surgeon, ER badass. Personally, I love the thought of Zuko as a child protective agent, and Sokka as a high school teacher, not just for the dramatic Zukka potential lol haha either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Awwweeeeeee! Thank you so much for the warm welcoming!! And I apologise for this long-lasting delay! Alas, life isn't always helpful with time management... I'm so glad to have finally kicked off this blog after lurking in the twist tag on Tumblr for like 2 years... And another 1 of having no time ...Yeah. N e ways, I'm so happy somebody requested Heartslabyul! I have some sugary sweetness for Deuce, which I was dying to write! I hope you enjoy the read!

Riddle Rosehearts

Riddle swears, that he is treating you no different than any other student. That, of course, is a farce, but god forbid anybody tells him so. What do you mean he is more lenient? No he's not.

That is until you accidentally break a rule and he lets it slide with a sigh and a pat on the head? A PAT? ON THE HEAD?! FrOM THE DORM LEADER OF HEARTSLABYUL?!

Aside from his apparent softness, he also goes above and beyond to offer his help whenever needed. Homework troubles? Study dates. Ramshackle problems? He's ALREADY storming into Crowley's office. Caught the cold? Prepare to be treated with just the right medicine and just the right warm herbal tea. Oh no. He insists to help. No, it is of no bother to him.

His pining is the respectful, gentlemanly pining. In his eyes, you are his treasure. His love is also very pure and even a simple brush of the shoulders would make his heart skip a beat.

Ace Trappola

Everytime you talk about something that you like, he would be looking at you as if you were a shooting star in the night aky. He would have the warmest, most lovestruck gaze you'll ever see. (which of course you don't notice, otherwise it MIGHT just not be pining anymore 👀) He'd totally hide it of course.

His pining consists of him constantly trying to impress you. Why don't you go cheer him on during basketball practice? "Hey, hey y/n! Look at this!" He then proceeds to try a new parkour trick. Did he succeed? Yes. Did he accidentally scrape his knee when landing? Also yes. Did you end up patching him up? Of course. And he was bathing in attention.

His pining is annoying, but loving. The "Hey, I know it's like 2am, but I have about a dozen bags of popcorn. We're pulling an all-nighter." You don't ask how and why, you just roll with it.

His goal is to make you laugh. Everytime you laugh at one of his jokes, he puffs out his chest and mentally, and sometimes physically, pats his shoulder. And he just can't help but smile himself.

"You're super pretty y'know?"

Deuce Spade

Oh the poor poor baby. He already has a hard time expressing his emotions, imagine having a crush. He'd be constantly bashful around you, speaking in a very soft manner to you, occasionally stuttering, especially when TRYING to give you a compliment.

"Oh...you want us to walk together to class? Yes of course! I mean- sure. Yes. Okay. Great. "

His pining is simultaneously childlike in nature, and very mature. Innocent glances and rosy cheeks, carrying your stuff, or *insisting* to do it, constantly making sure you're okay, you're comfortable, you're good.

Everytime you would study together, he'd casually scoot closer, just a little bit, just to feel the closure. He hasn't had any experience with love, so these feelings are very new for him. His pining comes in the form of inspiration - to be the best possible version of himself, for you and your future. So pat him on the head, kiss his cheek and tell him he's doing a good job. He deserves it, doesn't he?

Trey Clover

Trey has always been shown as the perfect, slightly more domestic man, who'd treat you with homemade sweets and care for you. And while he would, there is a lot more than meets the eye.

I feel like his pining would consist of clever flirtation, usually followed by a quiet chuckle. You never truly know if this is real flirting, or just him being very charming. (spoiler alert: it's both) And the worst part about it is that he gets you every time.

He'd care for you in ways too tender to be considered out of pure friendship, yet keep you at JUST enough of a distance to leave you questioning, WHILE also throwing flirtatious remarks at you.

His pining is shown through gentle touches and charming smiles, teasing good-natured remarks and a lot of healthy communication. If he sees that you're responding positively to his small yet meaningful advances, he'd get over himself rather quickly and ask you out. He's a down to earth guy with a down to earth heart.

Cater Diamond

Oof, a mess.

No really. Carter's mind and heart are at a standstill. Because obviously you wouldn't like the real him, right? He should move on and continue doing what he does best, but also..... It sounds so nice, holding hands, being highschool sweethearts, posting couple selfies, having somebody to confide in.....

His pining is hard, and nearly unbearable for him, long and arduous. He often stares at you and if you're extra vigilant, you'll notice how sometimes his gaze doesn't quite reach you. His mind is running laps, and his heart is like a beat drum.

And sometimes, just sometimes, his carefully created façade drops and suddenly, that stare turns so deep, piercing, longing. Only to be laughed off moments later.

His laugh around you may be loud, but his gentle smiles are very real, and reserved just for you.

I actually remember doing this during the Long Hiatus!

Kim's is definitely acts of service. She is angry at Jimmy for switching Chuck's documents...but she's also clearly moved by his gesture. She would have broken up with him otherwise, but it just brings them closer. When they are on a break following the fallout from the commercial, Jimmy calls every day to sing to her answering machine. She's not ready to talk to him yet, but it's important to her that he makes a tangible effort at apologizing and demonstrates his willingness to be patient in a way that makes her laugh. He paints her toenails. He gets the Kettlemans backs for her. He is always doing stuff to show her how much he cares

Jimmy's is definitely words of affirmation. He desperately wants his brother to tell him he's proud of him. He wants people to express amazement at his cleverness. Unfortunately, this is something Kim has a hard time with. She will acts-of-service him all day long, but putting things into words is very difficult for her. This is part of the reason why Jimmy is so less secure in their relationship than Kim is - he's always asking for her to reassure him ("this guy? really?") but she struggles with giving that to him. That's why the office becomes such a huge deal to Jimmy because to him, sharing the office is like her saying "I'm proud to be seen with Jimmy McGill, whom I love"

Chuck values quality time. His whole EHS is an elaborate way to get Jimmy to spend time with him. After the death of his parents and his divorce (and probably the death of Hamlin Sr too), he feels very abandoned. However, he can't ask Jimmy to spend time with him because that would be too vulnerable and humiliating. So his brain made up a way for him to get what he needs from Jimmy without having to say that he loves him - it's just because of the dang EHS, not that he really wants Jimmy there every day

Howard's is acts of service. You can tell because he's constantly trying to do things for other people - he agrees to take the blame for shutting Jimmy out of HHM. He offers Jimmy a job to make up for it later. He pays off Kim's debt. He makes Cheryl a peace latte. It's so important to him for people to accept these acts because he's showing his love and care, but he sadly gets rejected a lot because he misreads which acts of service would be welcome and which are not helpful. No one does acts of service for him. Poor Howie. :(

Nacho wants gifts. In the end, he rejected the ill-gotten gains from the cartel...but I think he never stopped being a material girl at heart. He loves jewelry and nice clothes and expensive cars. Tragically he has to go out and take it for himself, but I think he would react really well to being showered with gifts. Maybe if Lalo put a ring on it, things would have turned out differently.

Lalo values acts of service. Nacho wins him over when he parkours to rescue the drugs from the trap house - the drugs themselves weren't worth a lot, but Nacho's willingness to put himself in danger to impress Lalo works really well on him. Nacho burning down Gus's restaurant really sealed the deal.

Mike definitely needs quality time. Yes, he's working to get money to support Kaylee...but actually, he's getting the money to support Kaylee to make sure that Stacey will still want him around. He doesn't feel worthy of spending quality time with either of them unless he's being a provider, which is very sad because Stacey and Kaylee enjoy time with him no matter what, but he can't see that

Gus also prizes quality time. He visits David for the pleasure of listening to him talk, enjoying basking in the presence of someone who can take the pressure off of him and let him be swept away by the dulcet sounds of neurodivergent infodumping.

AvM Ep 31 Spoilers

Just some commentary on various aspects of the new episode

So first, the episode in general - it was fun, looks like we're gonna be getting a more random one-off 4th season which I'm fine with, we get our plot and angst through AvA 6 XD I am somewhat curious if this is gonna be a full ten episodes or a shorter season like AvM 2 but either way having some random one-off things that are longer than the actual shorts is nice.

For the group as a whole, it's really nice to see them doing stuff like this again - and I can't help but compare it to the Cave Spider episode all that time ago. All of them have gotten so clever in their tactics, they're so much stronger and more skilled than they used to be! I did notice some individual stuff I wanna bring up of course but I had to mention how strong the group as a whole has gotten.

For Yellow - while they weren't competing, they're using the command block staff so well. I love how the flight from the Witch short was used (for some reason I love how they fly, it's so satisfying) and tbh I just love how they haven't stopped using the command blocks after all the dramatic stuff was over. Also - Yellow is the best at terraforming, Green might make awesome structures and art like that but Yellow is amazing at terraforming places, have you seen the backgrounds? Yellow built all that and it looks amazing.

For Orange - they've been getting back into the super-competitive spirit that everyone has, and considering the nature of this competition yeah they fought with each other but - at least from what I could tell from my first watch and the AVG reaction afterwards - they weren't more disruptive to the others than anyone else was, so I take that as a win. Appropriate levels of competitiveness.

For Red, SEE THEY'RE SUCH A QUICK THINKER I'm so proud of them in this episode, they were always the first to come up with whatever little strategies there were to gain ground, they had so many strategies that were so unique, they just did so well and I'm so happy for them. However their animals died and that is tragic :(

For Blue, they can be so vicious sometimes honestly, when they know it's a fun competition they go all out XD Explosives and all. I did find it interesting though that they seemed much more chill around Red - which is something that's shared in the Parkour episode a while back. They still compete obviously, but it's much less fast-paced and hostile than they are with the rest of them. Just finding that interesting.

Of course etho inspires two ravager names. And tango goes to add laser beams instantly; even replacing poor life choices. Level 1 ravagers are the one most likely to kill runners, so they are the ones most likely to appear in chat. There was beast #25 on the same level but noooo. Tango ethogirl confirmed.

Finally stumble sprinkled into the queued cards really makes clank block and QuickDraw cards actually matter lol.

TNT?!?! OH MY GOD THATS SO COOL. is this going to happen everytime? How? Stone generator the floor back each level? And he has to jump down to powdered snow??? That’s so cool. That’s also a neat way to escape wardens. ITS A LABYRINTH?!! There’re so much soulfires. The music is so cool. THE HELL IS THAT LAVA??? I DIDNT KNOW YOU COULD DO THAT WITH LAVA AND DISPENSERS??? And there are wardens there too! That’s evil.

And he got his own artifact! Truly fate. One of the lowest artifacts though. And now how to get out. Is it the bubble columns? LOL HE GOT ON TOP OF THE MAZE AHHAAH. the lava flow is so cool. Tango you’re making them do lava parkour?!? So cruel. oh he is so dead. PINKY??!?! LOL.

Oof the hazard went down as she was on it. Truly etho mode. OH THE LAVA CORRIDORS ARE HAZARD AND A SHORTCUT!!! THATS GENIUS. AND SHES USING THE DRIPSTONE TO MAP THE MAZE!!! CLEVER!!! oh the warden statue is cute. LOL SHE WENT UP EVEN MORE HAHAHAA. DID SHE FIND A SECRET??!?BLINKY?!? LOL. She figured out the door to level 4 weeks ago? When she did the tnt depth charge in level 1? Omg.

Geminitay has 0 mercy on etho. Opposite of a pep talk. DOC TOO LOL.

“Let’s not be careless here-“ RECKLESS CHARGE. He pulled a Cub LOL. Skill Issue indeed. Truly washed up.

HE GOT ETHOWALLED HAHAHHA. He has two quicksteps? FROOMKINS LOL. Gem truly an ethogirl.

She’s outraged that she has to get 3 keys to get burning dark lol. That’s so unfortunate with her key luck. LOL THE BERRY BUSH DEATH! On purpose but still. I can finally do the advancement now!

LOL DID ALL THE WARDENS FALL INTO A 1 BLOCK HOLE?! AND HE TOOK DAMAGE FROM THE TNT LOL. there’s no way that lava corridor is supposed to be like that on max clank. Wait is that allowed? To be on top of those walls? Bro Inky LAUNCHED him.

The wardens swimming out of the lava stream was fantastic. Actually leaving a lava stream to illuminate and kill bats would be great.

i have a ton of cave concepts for WC in my mind but just a mouse and a dream.. Regardless i'll try to explain some of them here: Dandori Caves are pretty self explanatory, same thing from 4 only now (some) dandori battles has them fighting two leaflings to be fair. Puzzle Caves are akin to the shrines seen in BotW but pikmin form. Requiring a deeper understanding of pikmin's mechanics, teaching new ones and creating clever solutions to progress with the pikmin given. Outside pikmin can't be taken in and if a pikmin were to die they will be replaced so the puzzle can be retried. Split caves have the captains all separated from one another and no way to reach each other's side. They have to throw and manage pikmin across gaps with each other or even push/pull levers and buttons for one another. Like maybe having to time tossing pikmin down to their teammate's floor to be caught safely on a lily pad.

Of course theres still just normal ol caves as well but i thought it be neat to conceptualize different types of caves

And as for all caves ill make in all parts of WC i want them all to feel completely unique so heres one of them for your time being a parkour centric one with the new freedom of the jetpack being under the spotlight

Skater

-are korean and autistic -Mom died in a car crash. skater was present and was 11 at the time -Dad was deemed unfit to be her guardian (I'm working on it but just ignore how possibly unrealistic that is) -She is 15, lives with her uncles now, and is slowly working through her trauma and growing as a person -after the crash she sort of latched onto skate boarding as a coping mechanism and uses the nickname skater, which she is changing her actual name to -the name skater fits with her last name park, which is a common korean last name and they love to see people's expressions when she introduces herself as skater park -Also likes graffiti and using spray paint -mildly good at parkour?? bad but not super bad -Morally ambiguous. she tries hard to be a good person but strays from that frequently -clever. absolutely thrives on vibing with friends but ends up being sort of a weirdo -a bit.. intense. would not hesitate to stab someone and then proceed to never mention it again -"i would kill for you" but genuinely would. Without hesitation - apparently the clone of some old, corrupt time Deity that was intended to be a vessel for them to return to the world but things went askew so now Skayer has to deal with someone who looks almost exactly like her floating around and talking to her and distracting her by talking about death and asking about how she'd feel about letting good ol Kronos take over for a bit -Goofy and immature but Old and Tired at the same time -asks "you need me to kill someone for you?" With a completely straight face -sort of dark humor -walks with a fancy strut and fans her fingers out for dramatic tension and all sorts of movements -fast w running and escaping -smooth talkerz/a bit manipulative -self preservation instinct is strong and they end up in situations where they're forced to betray their friends to survive -actually pretty chill w being a pawn for the villain since they're useful at least -she's trying to be silly and light hearted but ends up very confused when people stare in shock at her when she tells a story they THOUGHT was funny but was actually messed up -they've been running through my head since 2020 -very afraid of turning out even remotely like Kronos -pretty scary when she hs genuine confidence since everyone is reminded of kronos -ts is Everything Moves by Bronze Radio Return

So summary:

Traumatized aroace lesbian with impeccable skating/graffiti vibes that is also kinda sorta an eldritch abomination

Kronos

-Thousands of years old -Identical to Skater, but taller and with a fancy green uniform and glowing green eyes -Sarcastic and comes off as deranged with the way they smile -it's very clear they're corrupt with power -Immortal and very divorced from the concept of mortality and empathy. They have difficulties thinking of other people and beings as anything more than a piece in their personal chess game -Charming. I can't figure out the words but think of them as having a very similar personality to Loki -time Deity, ability to rewind specific things. She is capable of knocking a few years off of someone's life or straight up winding them until they turn to dust -yea she's overpowered but in a "they have issues regarding that" way -uses a scythe as their main weapon -generally has an older sibling relationship with skater -violent and ruthless. Genuinely has fun fighting and getting injured since it seen so long they've had a physical form and could feel things -was trapped in a pocketwatch by other deities, so it's been a while since they've been out -very manipulative -doesn't care about risks since they can just rewind time to make them no longer exist. High pain tolerance -"scout's honor!" Minutes later, "I was never a scout" -Very little loyalty to anyone other than Skayer -they have a soft spot for Skater and want what's best for her but it's not exactly genuinely good stuff -sort of a ghost?? They're not physically there and won't be unless they possess skater's body. Powerless without a vessel -ts is cabinet man by lemon demon

Skater:

-tall and sort of skinny -tanned golden skin -dark brown eyes -black, short gnc haircut (https://f2.toyhou.se/file/f2-toyhou-se/images/59092318_RcWPKVUyyTdzmps.png) -wears a muted green jacket and jeans normally, as well as alchemist goggles

Kronos:

-identical to skater but taller -similar haircut but there's a bun at the end?? Hey! Here with a couple of mundane asks before I get to some good ones later.

So Thrill (Corrie Parkour) is always in the club and wants to play wingman for Cam. What does he look for in a partner and does he have a type? You know, so if Thrill can report back with any “relevant intelligence”.

Love and Wrecker hugs!

Cam loves a partner who is adventurous and clever. Thick thighs and pretty eyes are always a plus for him. He also needs someone to balance out his social anxiety. Besides his brothers he doesn’t socialize much and he needs someone who can get him out when he needs to, but can tell when a quiet night in is what he needs most.

He doesn’t act or look it but he loves reading and a partner who reads and discusses literature with him is a huge turn on. And he is an animal lover and it’s a non negotiable.

Neon White, movement as a puzzle mechanic

Recently I've played an indie game that released earlier this year, Neon White. It is classified as an FPS platformer, but I would like to make an argument that it's more than that. Today I am going to argue that Neon White is a puzzle game.

In this game you are what's called a Neon, an assassin that is summoned to heaven to deal with an yearly demon infestation for a chance to stay in heaven until the next infestation. More specifically you play as White, parkouring through levels in order to clear them as quickly as possible, killing every demon on your way to the end point.

With those basic notions in place, let's talk mechanics. In most levels you will find Soul Cards. These come in many varieties and most have two functions. Let's take the Elevate card here as an example. As you can see, it resembles a handgun. Its primary use is as the weapon itself. Since the Katana card you start with lacks a ranged attack, this allows you to deal with demons at a distance. Its secondary use can be achieved by getting rid of the card entirely, discarding it to gain access to a movement ability. In Elevate's case, that means a simple and reliable vertical boost to help cover extra distance with a jump or get up to a high ledge.

In addition, you can hold two kinds of cards and three copies of each at any given point.

So, we've established the dual nature of cards, how they are both tools for dispatching enemies, and tools for mobility. We've also established that the goal of each level is to make it to the end as fast as possible while killing every demon in it. Now let's consider for a moment that levels are fairly open. They present you with a path, the level design very clearly intends you to go through the path it sets out for you, and yet following it will net you a gold medal at most.

So what do you do if you want more than gold? If you want that coveted Ace medal?

You look for sections you can skip. Zones without enemies, or where the enemies can be dealt with in a way that requires no direct interaction, and you find ways around it. Ways that are often designed into the game intentionally.

Look at this picture. The Fireball card gives you a burst of speed in the direction you're looking at, dealing damage to objects and enemies in the way. I could break through the door, that's the direction to level intends me to follow. Or I could Fireball my way to that platform with the tripwires (the purple things).

From previous levels you are aware that the tripwires deal damage to whatever they're attached to when destroyed, and in a first run through the level you notice they're attached to enemies beyond the door. The dots are connected and you use your knowledge of the mechanics to go to the platform, clearing the tripwires with the Fireball dash and skipping the entire section behind the door.

So why do I say it's a puzzle game?

I'd argue that a lot of speed games have some puzzle elements actually, but I wouldn't exactly call them puzzle games, and the deciding factor for that is openness.

Neon White barely restrains your movement options when it comes to space, it restrains them based on whether it gives you access or not, and this comes with an interesting dynamic where, as long as you have the movement options you need, you can basically go anywhere in the map, regardless of its design.

You have a problem: I need to get to the goal while killing every enemy.

You have your resources: Cards and health

And through using your resources to figure out the solution what do you get? A route. A sequence of movements, shots and actions.

The puzzle of Neon White, of the clever level design of this fps platformer, is nothing more than routing.

You have a number of resources, and it's up to you to figure out what sections of the map you can skip, what movement you require to skip them, and the quickest way to go about it.

I could follow the path to my left, or I could Godspeed my way to the water in front, because the level is open and has given me the resources to do so, and knowing when exactly I have those resources, when I have the opportunity to leap ahead and make my path to the end that much quicker, THAT becomes the problem. THAT is the puzzle.

In conclusion: Neon White very clearly defines the rules for you, but these rules allow for problem solving, they allow for shortcuts and interaction. You don't have to follow the path, you can instead use knowledge of the mechanics to theorize a different path, test it, and optimize it.

I believe there is something beautiful to that freedom in player expression, to that freedom in allowing players to theorize a path with the resources available, and most of all I believe this makes Neon White, additionally to a FPS platformer, a puzzle game.

:: ABILITIES & SKILLS :: Physical Skills : Athletic, prioritizes agility over strength, skilled at parkour. Hardy constitution, resistant to illness and poison (and alcohol). Mental Skills : Quick-witted, clever, good at riddles and puzzles. Inquisitive, learns new information easily. Can use relevant general media to self-teach new languages. Psyker Abilities : Not fully developed yet, but may manifest under stress. Illusions, such as double- or triple-images or the appearance of being invisible, are the most common reactions, but they rarely last for more than a second or two at a time. Other Notes : Mahvaris does not require a soul stone at present. However, should their psychic ability grow, they may require a similar protection for their soul. They are self-taught in Low Gothic, so initial conversation in that language will be rough.

:: STORY INFORMATION :: Unnatural Hybrid : Aeldari-Human hybrids are virtually nonviable in the conventional sense, but that didn't stop Mahvaris from existing. They're not keen to discuss that fact or how they came about. As it is, they're constantly dealing with a fluctuating level of general discomfort due to feeling as though they don't quite fit in their body. Scout & Skirmish : Due to necessity, Mahvaris had been in training to be a scout for the Craftworld, leading to them learning to fly and repair small crafts. They're skilled at evasive flying, and the Veraegel is capable of micro-Warp-jumps that can make them tricky to track down. This leads to hit-and-run tactics if pushed to fight. Abhuman if Asked : A few rough first meetings taught Mahvaris that humans were not accepting of perceived xenos. However, they also quickly learned that they could claim to be an 'abhuman', as they don't have as sharp or long features as Aeldari. Most traders are content with this excuse. Restless Alcoholic : Between hearing psychic whispering at random and being deeply traumatized, Mahvaris seeks distraction. Their favorite distraction, as it turns out, is getting drunk while they're alone on their ship. It helps them pretend they're not terrified of the future, that they're strong enough to deal with not knowing what to do Scarce Supplies : Due to trying to lay low, and not knowing where to go, Mahvaris has gotten used to making their supplies stretch for as long as possible. This does mean that do tend to appear somewhat malnourished, and they might try to steal food.

Scar as Hyacinthus, the clever yet gentle Spartan divine hero

Grian as Apollo, the god of the sun

Grian being so in awe of Scar's beauty that he abandons his newest temple just to live with Scar, warming him with his light and spreading his wings around him like sunshine

He teaches the hero about archery (HotGuy), Prophecy (Watchers), and gymnastics (parkour)

One day while playing a friendly game of discus, Scar runs to retrieve the disc Grian threw, but it glances off the ground and strikes him in the head mortally wounding him.

The sun god clutches him distraught. No herbs or medicines or ambrosia can heal a wound Fate intended to be his last.

Sobbing, he promises to always remember him. From Scar's blood he creates the hyacinth flower, inscribing aíaī (alas) onto its petals

But the Watchers give Grian a chance to give his lover another Life. Grian revives him and makes Scar immortal so they can always be together

Scar later goes on to become the embodiment of spring. His hyacinth flowers thrive until the summer sun kills them, much like in his previous life

I should probably clarify the reason Apollo fell for him is because Hyacinthus was athletic, and Greek athletes performed naked to show off their bodies.
