It was my honor to read The Giving Tree to Mrs.Kunkel's 1st Grade Class. Afterward each child was given a gift of an Apple to either enjoy or to give to someone else.🍎 I taught for several decades and I am so proud that parents trusted me with the education of their children and I am equally proud that our Santa Rosa Shih Tzu Puppy Families trust us with caring for their puppy or in some cases, puppies, plural. The Only Disability is a Bad Attitude. Gone Riding. I first became involved with AAT and Equine Therapy while living and riding in Costa Rica. In fact, when I moved permanently to CR, I actually shipped my horses (Brinks and Oakley-a Friesian and a Belgian Draft) there with me and my family. Sadly as life has it, 4 years later, I moved back to the US and could not bring them back with me, so I gifted them to a Missionary there who ran an AAT/Equine Therapy Ranch. Humans and animals share a powerful, healing bond. Through the ages, this bond has been a source of solace, comfort and relief for those who suffer from physical, spiritual or emotional pain. Animal-Assisted and Equine Therapy has been proven to help children and adults who have experienced trauma, abuse as well as given hope and focus to kids with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). AAT has improved the QOL (Quality of Life) of patients undergoing chemotherapy or other difficult medical treatments. It has helped veterans, POW's and their families who are struggling to cope with the effects of wartime military service and it has eased the pain of neglect and the difficulties of the aging process for senior citizens. Last, but certainly not least, in the "Faces Behind" Santa Rosa Shih Tzu Puppy🐾 series is Harper. Say Hello to Harper.   Harper has overcome so much in his short life. Harper's Failure to Thrive Diagnosis along with many others: Heart Murmur, Umbilical Hyernia, Autism, Clubfoot, Pediatric Feeding Disorder, Fibular Hemimelia, and an inability  to speak, all contributed to making him a frequent flyer for long extended stays at the Pediatric ICU at Doctor's Hospital. Harper being here with his earthly family is a miracle. Harper is a fighter and he has beat the odds and in a few days will finish Kindergarten. If you are lucky enough to meet this young man you will be greeted with a "Big Smile." Harper doesn't speak and for a long-time could not walk, but somehow, he has always been able to communicate with our four-footed moms, dads, and puppies in that special "Harper Way." We call him the "Puppy Whisperer." Harper is our resident "Puppy Holder."
