i just discovered your ZM Part 3 playlist on Spotify and been playing Adam's songs (Gold, No More Mr Nice Guy, Ready As Ill Ever Be, One Day More, The World Has Gone Insane, Emperors New Clothes ) Umas Solo (Calling All The Monsters) and most of the Bal and Devie Duets
PS; im Anti Audrey, Leah (she makes me wanna punch my tv) and Harry
I love Mal, Ben. Doug. and Uma
im neutral (not anti but i don't love them either) on Chad, Verna.and Adam
I’m glad you’re enjoying it. The bal and devie duets are some of my favourite lyric pages to write out, seeing as we never got any of either. I’m still bitter. As well as the Audrey torture. There’s at least one more Adam solo. And a lot more Uma solos besides that particular one. I take it that you liked the fact I killed Harry off and gave Uma a new love interest then?

my unpopular descendants opinions  All three movies
These are my opinions not facts and like stated above they’re unpopular there’s a chance your favorite character might be came for or a scene you felt strongly about, I strongly disagreed with. I’m not stating really obvious things either like: Ben shouldn’t have been crowned King at 16.
* Jane got off lightly. She was just as much of a bitch to the Vks as Audrey was but she’s generally the one forgiven.
I think Jane is fake, she’s on whoever is the winning team’s side EX: If Ben decided to date any other AK and Mal or Audrey she would’ve be friended them and ditched everybody else
Family day was overdramatic and you could definitely tell that they C4 were teenagers with their decision making
They had ONE bad day in Auradon after for the most part, being treated well and even becoming popular to the point they were questioning their decision
But ONE bad day and they decide to go through with taking over Auradon and it’s not like anybody was lying on them.
Sorry Queen Leah is another thing but Chad wasn’t lying about anything and for them to know he wasn’t and sit and get offended was dumb
They came over to Auradon with Bad intentions and got to roam around freely and took advantage of it
Mal did steal Audrey's Boyfriend by drugging him, Jay was stealing, Evie was gold digging.
Evie shouldn’t have put her hand in his face if she didn’t want him to push it out of his face.
Because like I said above he wasn’t wrong, Evie didn’t really care too much about Chad as a person she was interested in the fact that he was a Prince.
Was it Prince behavior no? But was he 100% dead wrong no?
Audrey was really the one who started that fight at Family day too
Ben’s whole VK plan was messy when you take into account Leah’s reaction at family day.
The OG heroes should’ve at least been informed that their respective villains children were coming over so they were aware and a situation like Leah wouldn’t happen.
I mean Leah treats her own granddaughter like shit depending on who’s she is dating so she definitely wasn’t going to treat Mal any better but let’s say her reaction at family day was out of pure trauma.
It could’ve been avoided if she was informed and didn’t actually end up standing next to her enemy's daughter.
Ben’s whole plan was dumb and messy.
Giving the VKs restrictions isn’t the same as punishing them for their parent’s crimes
Realistically speaking they were on the Isle taught solely by their villain parents and other villains so it would’ve been sense to ease into giving them trust.
Because looked how that turned out they tried to take over Auradon and their king got drugged all because they didn’t want the VKs to think they were being punished for their parent’s crimes.
I think the VKs not getting any punishment for changing their minutes at the last minute was BS. Especially if these are the same people mad Audrey got off too.
The vks had ample time to change their minds, were considering dropping the plan and when they got in their feelings decided to go through with it.
They had everything to gain staying in Auradon and the only thing they lost was their abusive controlling parents
But they very much got rewarded for changing their mind on bad behavior last minute and it shows throughout the other movies.
That’s why they were so comfortable going in out of the isle without permission especially with the king unprotected.
Because they knew no matter what happened at the end of the day nothing would really happen to them because they had the king’s favor.
Evie was kind of a dick to me when she assumed Uma was going to destroy Auradon and that’s why she wanted the wand. I don’t completely not understand her thinking because She kidnapped Ben to get to the wand.
But no Uma had to have wanted to hurt somebody and not her wanting to get herself and any other kid off the Isle after they 4 of you unfairly got picked.
That’s another thing, it was dumb to pick the 4 ‘worst’ kids because how does that look to the other kids who might’ve wanted a better life.
The one’s who terrorize us here get to be the first ones to get the better things in life and later on we basically have to apply to even leave but also ass kiss the four of them to even get a chance.
Uma stans do acknowledge that she was wrong for spelling Ben but it’s often lighten/ brushed over.
We have to acknowledge the fact that Ben would’ve talked to Uma if she just attempted to after she jumped through the Barrier.
He wouldn’t have thrown her right back in he would’ve spoke to and defended her if she tried but she didn’t she went straight to the love spell
Lonnie is just as fake as Jane is when it comes to homie hopping.
She went fuck Ben and I stand with you Mal real quick for somebody who was supposed to have a sibling like relationship with him
Audrey turning villain was no surprise and I feel especially like the adults should hold themselves accountable more.
My opinion on this matter is biased, especially when comparing to how I’m digging into the VKs above but I’ll say because their actions are excused in canon and largely forgive in the fandom.
At the end of the day I know Audrey had other options than going rogue and she was wrong for that period.
But as fucked up as it sounds I don’t think she would’ve ever done that if it weren’t for her circumstances.
She would’ve lived a responsible life, spending her days cheerleading, and preparing for royal duties.
But instead not only did her relationship fall apart she was shunned.
Jane, Lonnie and everybody else stopped talking to her and favored Mal to the point where people were ignoring her when she spoke and asking why she showed up to Jane’s birthday party.
So of course in her mind Dating Ben/ Being next in line for Queen= being treated like a human.
Because all of these people ignoring her were kissing her ass when she was with Ben
Girl had depression and flunked in school and had to take summer school because it was fucking her up.
continuously she was straight up ignored whenever she said something because she wasn’t seen as anything to be worried about
Straight up insulted by adults she probably looked up to (Belle)
And when people (her grandma) did speak to her it was to tear her down and degrade her.
So she became a threat and something they can’t straight up ignore anymore.
Ideally I’d like for that to happen by her thriving and living her best life but she had to choose evil.
That whole let’s get along bs Evie was doing the entire movie was a waste of time.
If Mal decided Uma and her crew were enemies, Evie and the other 2 yes Men would’ve turned on Uma and did as Mal said.
So she shouldn’t be surprised nobody wanted to be kumbaya with them
Nobody forced or pressured Mal to close the barrier
A large part of it was her not wanting anybody to find out her daddy was Hades.
She straight up says she did it for them (the c4) and the lives they had there
Auradon being safe or any of the VKs were not her priority when she made the decision.
Ben’s little “so have I” irked me because if anybody should’ve been talked to her in three years it should’ve been you
Him thinking she was fine because she rebounded with chad is one thing but literally watching her not only fade from his life but Auradon period and being MIA after being together all the time and had no clue???
Guess he was too busy dealing with Mal’s bs
Headcanon Mal still has him spelled.
Hades little speech was bullshit, he earned his punishment and so did all of his fellow villains
Compared to him Audrey was literally a ticking time bomb everybody ignored because they didn’t care and they fucked around and found out.
and not only that the daughter he was standing in front of saying this played a big part in it so you might want to shut up.
Mal did what she did out of malice, I refused to believe her “I didn’t mean to” bs when it comes to Audrey because Audrey’s name stayed in her mouth whenever she was talking shit.
Audrey was correct in not getting a punishment not because her actions were a result of the adults failing to notice her depression and other kids contributing to it but simply because nobody else did
C4 weren’t punished in D1 Mal was never punished for her fuck shit, Uma and her friends weren’t given formal punishments from what I understand (especially with it being a known fact Uma spelled Ben for her own gain unlike Mal’s lying ass saying she did it for love. She was wanted to be captured though I believe)
So why should Audrey out of everybody be the only who got a formal punishment, I think not
Audrey being kumbaya with them at the end was too soon, she should’ve left Auradon, healed and never spoke to them again.
Because like I said she was at first a ticking time bomb and now that she exploded everybody wants to be civil now?
She needed new friends a new life everything.
Uma too, she shouldn’t have to be friends with Mal either
C4 forgiving Mal for her decision to shut the barrier down was not their place in my opinion.
Of course you’ll forgive her because it really isn’t doing anything to you having it shut down especially Evie she got the kid she wanted off of there
This wasnt about them this was about the kids who didnt even have the choice nor would they be aware of it, had Mal went through it
It wasn’t about C4 and their hurt feelings about Mal lying
Do I even need to say them taking down the barrier was dumb?

Who's your least favorite adult in descendants?
Leah. She fucked up Audrey bad.... She literally taught her to base her self worth and life off of getting with a specific guy, and that any failure to put a ring on him would be her failing her family.
The fandom likes to put the blame on Ben and Mal for Audrey's breakdown in Descendants 3, but I don't think it's ever empathized by us enough that *Leah* is the primary person at fault. Audrey's tears are essentially because her grandmother has told her she has failed her family for the fact that Ben has chosen to marry someone else.
Horrible, abusive, indoctrinating woman.

DUA LIPA - "TRAINING SEASON"
youtube
525,600 sadbois...
[5.53]
Leah Isobel: Every time I try to write this blurb, I stare at a blank screen for 30 minutes before closing the page. I start with how the instrumental choices here invoke classic pop forebears -- flamenco guitars that, in this context, feel like Madonna; descending piano lines that recall ABBA -- and I come up short. I start with her affected enunciation, leaning into the simulated emotion ("I try to see my lovers in a gühd light") and the, uh, being-British ("I hope it hits me like an aurrow") that are her two trademarks, and I come up short. I start by comparing "Training Season" to "Houdini," which did ultimately grow on me, and I come up short. I just don't have anything to say about this song; it's so taut, so perfectly and unremarkably muscular, that my attention bounces right off. So it's a Dua Lipa single. [5]
Katherine St. Asaph: Dua Lipa is the human incarnation of the [6] to [7] range. Here we have some exotica married to the amusing idea that the main attraction of a vertiginous, libidinous love affair is "conversation overload." I don't know -- that line, and the surrounding lyrics like "he's straight talking to my soul" and "are you somebody who can go there?", come off so dating podcast-brained and thus absolutely safe that they make the instrumental sound overheated and unconvincing. [6]
Jackie Powell: Red hair. Leather outfits. Vocal growling -- it happened right here during Dua Lipa’s performance at this year’s BRITs. The disco of “Dance the Night” and Future Nostalgia has officially run its course. While I had questions about how convincing Lipa’s previous single “Houdini” was of her transition into “psychedelic-pop” and “Nineties rock,” Lipa makes a much more cogent argument for her new era with “Training Season.” With main collaborator Caroline Ailin, Lipa constructs an extended metaphor that equates dating to a high-stakes track meet. The influences of Kevin Parker and the Brit pop-rock of Oasis and Blur that Lipa grew up with are much more apparent -- the heart of the song is a conversation between a guitar and a bass during the verses, in addition to a rhythm acoustic guitar that accents the chorus. The bridge -- which is a full bridge, not just a bunch of vocalizations -- is a melodramatic but compelling build that brings everything into complete focus. Her lyrics continue the extended metaphor about running, but finally we’ve arrived at the meet itself, and a classic piano serves as the person who formally tells the runners to take their marks and go. Throughout “Training Season," Dua Lipa wields a type of command that's edgier than her previous work. Interesting doesn’t have to be toxic, as she told Brittany Spanos of Rolling Stone, and "Training Season" is her way of responding to the toxic masculinity that has become part of the story of the pop rock music she’s influenced by.  [9]
Ian Mathers: Ah yes, another installment in the Dula Peeps Men (Still) Ain't Shit extended cinematic universe. From magic to sports, where will we go next? Farming? Food preparation? I do wish this was as fun to listen to as "Houdini," though. [6]
Taylor Alatorre: The anti-chemistry between Dua Lipa and her Stereogum-bait producers is even more evident here than on "Houdini," and I find it strangely engrossing, albeit with the balance tipped toward "strangely." Getting spins remains the goal, but there's this constant tug-of-war regarding the best strategy for getting them. Kevin Parker tends toward memorable, if incongruous moments of harmonic tension and build-up, while Danny L Harle is presumably the one responsible for those geometric guitar plucks and the antiseptic bubble that is the chorus. Meanwhile, Dua Lipa is there, plugging her vocals into the the designated slots, feeling less essential to the character of her own song than ever. Such are the dangers of outsourcing your sonic re-invention to the indie gentry. [5]
Andrew Karpan: I’m less of a cynic, and I think the idea of burning through various versions of Kevin Parker’s “Less I Know the Better”-type beat through the gasoline shimmer of hyperpop disco (TM) is as fine enough an idea as any to sell the Dua Lipa project -- the value proposition of which remains largely unchanged, even as it continues to be twisted into slightly fewer, but more deliberate, directions. Her voice can always bend, but always the same way, beating on, against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the ’clurb.  [5]
Dave Moore: I'm not sold yet on Dua Lipa's chorus-agnostic era. As a perennial Lipa skeptic I thought the stylistic recession on "Houdini" worked for her, and I suppose it works about as well here, but the song is bereft of that one's small pleasures. It sounds like she's rubber-cementing random pop hooks together, whereas before it at least sounded like she was using chewing gum.  [6]
Oliver Maier: Something like "Lay All Your Love On Me" is straining to muscle out from beneath Dua's tepid synth-funk, but there's never any real danger it'll break free and liven things up. [4]
Joshua Lu: There's a deadliness to "Training Season" that few artists can execute as well as Dua, with her coquettish voice slinking around you like a snake does its prey. But where the song should grow in intensity, it instead chooses to shrink, and where it should throw a curveball, it instead aims for simplicity — why does the chorus end with such a standard fade-out that resets all of its momentum? The song has all the foundations of a great pop single but is too satisfied with sounding like a decent album track. [5]
TA Inskeep: Her singles have a habit of sneaking up on me. "Levitating" improved by hearing it constantly out in the wild (I don't generally do terrestrial radio, but it was unavoidable). "Cold Heart"'s mash-up eventually sucked me in, and I can't get the short sharp (un)shock of "Houdini" out of my head (it's an [8], just a sparkling pop single). "Training Season" won't join that class, as it has nothing to it but a mild EDM build (ca. 2008) in the chorus that just -- ends. And Lipa sounds even more bored than usual. [4]
Hannah Jocelyn: This would have been a [10] if it came out shortly after Currents; it's still pretty great in 2024, with much more lively production than "Houdini" and genuine risks like that harsh synth towards the end. I'm on board with this direction! [7]
Nortey Dowuona: I wonder if it burns Caroline Polachek up that Dua Lipa will have the big mainstream hit album she will never have and that Danny L Harle is involved with it. I would advise her to listen to Martina Sorbara's 2002 album The Cure for Bad Deeds and accept her niche status instead of fighting it. It might just lead her to eggs over easy. [6]
Dorian Sinclair: So, I read a lot. It’s my primary leisure activity. I read books that profoundly move me, books that open me to whole new ways of thinking, books I immediately recommend to everyone I know. But I also read a steady stream of 5.5/10 genre novels. They’re an important reset between more impactful works: faultlessly competent, reasonably engaging, instantly forgettable. This, to me, is Dua Lipa. [5]
Aaron Bergstrom: Feels like it should work but comes off as listless, directionless, joyless. It's a mild to moderate case of Training Seasonal Affective Disorder. [4]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: Training season? Guess it makes sense that she sounds so out of breath in that chorus then.  [6]

OC's Outfit and Sword:
Information about my OC:
°Full Name: Lilith Ombretta Cheronobog
°Aliases: Lily, Etta, Little Darkling, The Sinner's Bane, Umbra Insulae (the shadow of the island), Vindex (punisher), Diabolique, Discordia...
°Gender: Female
°Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
°Species: Demon/Demigod hybrid
°Age: ???? (demons age differently so technically she's ancient but she physically looks 21)
°Status: Immortal
°Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (leaning towards evil)
°Hair Colour: black as her soul (sometimes dyed as dark blue ombre)
°Eye Colour: chartreuse (but when she uses magic it turns an eerie yellow)
°Complexion: deathly pale
°Personality: Lilith is a chaotic pessimist made out of sarcasm. She's so very unapologetic with what she says and she uses dark humour as a coping mechanism. She gets aggressive around some villains (like Gaston and Frollo) but turns docile around some of the villainesses (cough... Maleficent... cough... Helga Sinclair). But besides that she's surprisingly very helpful (but only when it suits her😏)...
°Family: Chernabog (father, estranged, dead), Eris (mother, estranged, alive)...
°Love Partnership Interest: ☠️ (Flirt and flounce but when they want to settle down... bounce...)
°Friends Allies: The Core Four, The Sea Three, (sighs) Yen Sid, The Anti-Heroes Club, Dizzy Tremaine, Hadie, Hades, Dr. Facilier, Celia Facilier, Freddy Facilier, Diego DeVil, Harriet Hook, CJ Hook...
°Enemies: Most of the adults on the Isle, King Beast, Queen Leah, basically all the Vk haters...
°Hobbies: Beating the shit out of the sinners of the Isle (mostly Gaston and Frollo...), Protecting the younger Vks from their abusive parents, Annoying Yen Sid, Hanging out at Dragon Hall (because you're never too cool for school), Flirting with the MILFs of the Isle 😏...
°Occupations: Substitute Teacher (at Dragon Hall), Babysitter (for younger Vks), Manager (at the Bargain Castle shop)
°Pet: a fruit bat (named Alucard🦇)
°Powers & Abilities: Umbrakinesis, Chaos Magic, Dark Magic, Demon Summoning, Bloodbending, Flying (with wings or when she turns into a swarm of bats), Shape Shifting, Allspeak, Super Strength, Fast Reflexes, Heightened Senses, Super Intelligence...
°How she ended up on the Isle: Well... she volunteered to go with Yen Sid to the Isle, so that they could teach the children of the Isle how to live without magic (and to also make sure that the villains don't tear him apart)...
°How her life was before the Isle: Lilith grew up isolated, in a cave at the Bald Mountain, so she immediately left for adventure when she was old enough to take care of herself. She travelled many realms and had many romances and misadventures, meeting strange people along the way... one of them was Yen Sid.
They didn't get along at first but eventually they became frenemies of sorts (more like civilised enemies) that engage in friendly banter whilst fighting each other (kinda like the Merlin and Mim dynamic). They only became true friends when Lilith helped Yen Sid and Mickey Mouse defeat Chernabog in an epic final battle on Bald Mountain. After the battle, Chernabog's remains was buried beneath the Island that would later be known as "The Isle of the Lost"...
"Death is inevitable, suffering is optional..."

Active Series:
Nicky Connors, Cobra Adjacent - focusing on my OC Nicola ‘Nicky’ Connors, who befriends Johnny and the Cobras in 1981 and becomes an honourary Cobra. She’s especially close to Johnny, but this relationship becomes increasingly fraught in the run-up to KK1, as he gets deeper into Cobra Kai and she can’t see a way to get him out. Will be an eventual AU, and currently has 3 stories.
bad boy (no more) - one-shots focusing on a redeemed Mike Barnes, his wife Leah, and their three kids Sarah, Elaine, and Alex. Will be (mostly) unconnected, currently has 6 stories.
The Shieldmaiden Saga -  my longfic Flash AU series featuring Steph Taylor, Eddie Thawne’s childhood best friend who gains force-field powers the night of the accelerator explosion, learns about the truth of the particle accelerator, and plots to bring down Wells with a help of a friend or several, all while also trying to help the metahuman community in Central. Currently has 2 stories.
Cobalt Blue and The Flash - Flash AU where Malcolm Thawne (Eddie’s estranged younger brother) and Barry Allen are best friends, and both get struck by lightning the night of the explosion. Malcolm wakes up five months later, reconciles with his brother, and on discovering his powers becomes Central City’s first hero. But there’s a lot of questions surrounding that night, and he doesn’t really think Wells’ version of events is the whole story, and this is before he finds out superspeed isn’t the only set of powers he has. Currently has 1 story.
On Hiatus:
Niamh Cassidy - Once Upon a Time AU featuring Niamh Cassidy, Neal’s 8-year-old daughter, which will focus on her adventures after her grandfather, her half-brother, and her dad’s old girlfriend (who is her half-brother’s mother) show up on the doorstep looking for her dad, and she finds out that all the weird and wonderful tales she’s been told are true. Currently has 1 story.
The Adventures of Eliana Kent - my Supergirl AU focusing on my OC Eliana Kent, Clark and Lana’s daughter from an alternate universe who was forced (along with thousands of others) to flee from her home universe to Earth-38 after the anti-alien government wipes out most of her family. Suddenly starting to come into the rest of her powers - after 17 years of only having flight and supersenses - following Cadmus’s debut, she soon becomes National City’s newest hero, which brings her face to face with her family’s doppelgangers. Currently has 1in-progress longfic, with 3 chapters.
to fix the timeline (or make it better) - my Krypton AU featuring my OC Ashley Tanner, a friend of Adam’s since high school who was accidently transported alongside him to Rann, and has had many space adventures since then, before deciding to help him save Krypton (as well as the timeline) from Brainiac. But things turn out to be a lot more complicated than they realise. Currently has 1 in-progress longfic, with 8 out of 11 chapters.
emerald legacy - Arrow AU where Oliver is the one who dies in the S1 finale, not Tommy, and as a result it’s up to Tommy to take on the vigilante mantle with the help of his friends and family, with all the problems that brings after an old enemy of Oliver’s decides he’ll just switch his focus to Tommy instead. Currently has 2 stories.
legends of earth-4 - a literal Legends AU focusing on what the Legends of Earth-4 could look like, featuring my OC Brianna Thawne, Eddie’s distant descendant and the Cobalt Blue of her generation, who joins the Legends after she causes a rift in her Team Flash following her attempt to stop an Allen from changing the timeline. Currently has 1 story.

a god’s reflection - a rewrite of an FFN story set post-Avengers from Loki’s POV as he thinks about what led him to his prison cell.
you’ve always been (a part of me) - a Krypton AU set 40 years post-canon, with Seg and Adam having gotten together not long after S2 and had a family, and focuses on Seg coming to terms with the fact that he’ll long outlive Adam.
right here (is where I’m meant to be) - a short, fluffy, post-canon Segdam story as they share a lazy morning together.
to new beginnings - a Westhallen (and Eddie Lives) AU, written for last January’s Polyam Shipping Day with the prompt ‘Resolutions’.
the future (is ours) - a Flash AU where Iris became the Flash and Barry and Eddie were the ones who got together, but even though Eobard is dealt with without any casulties, Eddie can’t help but wonder what his place in Barry’s life is know, knowing what he does of the original timeline.
now we have (the freedom to choose) - An AU of the Legends S1 finale, as Carter talks about destiny with Sara, and realises he wants to branch out on his own as well now that he’s not constantly fearing for his life.
the truth (long overdue) - Spider-Man 2 fix-it where Peter actually explains things to Harry, and unknowingly averts catastrophe.
Ambiguity - FFN import of a story I wrote for the web series Stupid Mario Brothers, showing the events of the Movie Act 2 Part 4 from Mr L’s POV (with a twist)

Why is the world so obsessed with Fairy Tale?
I caved. Everybody and their mother was raving about how amazing Stephen King's Fairy Tale was, and I really should know better by now than letting myself be drawn in by popular opinion, but it's Stephen King, supposedly one of the most masterful writers ever, so surely this must have been good?
It wasn't.
It wasn't even mediocre.
It just sucked.
Tumblr media
And yes, I do like good fantasy. And I do like good YA, quite a bit. Emphasis on 'good'.
Just in case you aren't familiar with the premise, here's basically what the book is about: Charlie, a teenage boy, befriends an older man and his old dog, falls in love with the dog, finds a portal to a different reality that's plagued by its own horrors and goes on a personal quest. And no, none of this is super original, but even the least original premise can be made interesting, so don't let this deter you.
The part that bothers me most about this book is that the first 30% or so are actually... quite decent. That's the 'real-world' part. Sure, it has some plot holes, but also a couple of interesting characters, and overall an engaging storyline.
Then, Charlie descends into this other reality, and that's where our problems start.
First of all, you get almost 200 pages of... nothing happening. Charlie goes on his quest, meets people, describes everything he sees, and accomplishes what he set out to do. There are no challenges. There is no build-up. It's... boring. Those he meets along the way are more archetypes or caricatures than actual people. There is no humanity to them. Yes, I get that this is supposed to be a fairy tale, but there's a reason actual fairy tales aren't over 600 pages - you don't want to spend hours reading about people you truly couldn't care about less.
This is made worse by Charlie's inner monologue and how often he feels the need to tell the reader what things aren't. It starts with his ability to understand the language of the world he's in, even though the words are different. He really wants to drive home the point (why - I have no idea, it doesn't add anything to the story), so we're treated to dozens of his "well, that's what I heard, but not what was actually said" and unnecessary commentary.
"The answer seemed to be yes, but that wasn't all."
"I stood looking at this (...), but that wasn't why."
"I probably don't need to tell you (...) because you probably already know it."
"I thought it was because I'd gotten up, but that wasn't it."
"I'd thought of (...), it was true, but that wasn't what had made me hesitate."
"I could tell you it was because her hair was down tonight (...), but that wouldn't be true".
"I could have said I'd never thought of it, which was true, but that wasn't all of it."
Tumblr media
Then, 60% in, we get a bit more interesting characters and a bit more of a plot. There's still very little reasoning as to why the things that happen are happening, but at least something is happening. This is probably the best part of the fantasy world, and it lasts about 100 pages.
And then we're treated to the most anti-climatic ending possible. But by then, I honestly was just glad it was over.
One more thing worth mentioning is how terrible (and I mean completely ridiculous) the romance is in this book. Here's who we have:
In chapter 11 we are introduced to this girl named Arnetta Freeman. Charlie agrees to go on a date with her and I'm not spoiling *anything* here, because she doesn't exist in the remainder of the book. The purpose of including her at all is beyond me.
Tumblr media
Then we have Leah, whom Charlie falls madly in love with, which is partly because she's supposed beautiful, but honestly probably more because in an archetypical fairy tale, the main protagonist needs a love interest. Which, again, I get, but this love had nothing going for it.
And then, towards the very end, a different female character suddenly goes like "Will you lie with me, Charlie?" Which came completely out of the blue, since said character hadn't expressed any interest before that moment.

BUTTTTTT I've got some good news for you, as well. Apparently, for some reason, at the beginning of every chapter, you get a literal summary of everything that's going to happen in that chapter. So if you're still curious about this book, just read the chapter headings and save yourself hours of your life.
2/5. Would be 1/5 if not for the first 200 pages.

I will forever be angry about Audrey's portrayal in all of the films. From what I can remember from the first book, the one that started it all- Audrey was described as someone sweet and all too naive. She was "perfect" and affectionate and everything Mal isn't.
Basically, a way to prop Mal off as "not like other girls". Mal is the exact opposite of Audrey. She's vicious, cruel, antagonizing, manipulative and just genuinely evil. She wears dyed leather, her eyes glow green and whatever else made her seem more interesting to Ben than Audrey...
Then, Mal came out of nowhere and naturally Audrey would be on edge. She was raised to believe, revealed later on in the movie, that Maleficent was evil by her grandmother- rightfully so, because she couldn't even watch her daughter take her first steps, hear her first words, watch her grow tall... she was raised by a bunch of fae. And not once, did she get to see her own daughter. All because of Maleficent and her curse.
Queen Leah presumed Mal to be raised evil, just as Maleficent would- and she did. Mal was proclaimed the unofficial "princess" (a title I can think of on the spot that describes how everyone sees her on the Isle), she was very feared. Known for her cruelty- especially to Evie, her supposed best friend that she trapped in a closet full of bear traps because she wasn't invited to her birthday party.
Overall, Queen Leah was right. Mal had a plan to usurp Auradon. Audrey was right. But she was portrayed as a catty and petty girl- especially in the last movie.
What I hate about this fandom is how they portray her as this nasty mean girl, when this was only shown to a girl she knew was up to something. And the writers, too- they saw her as a narcissistic whiny spoiled brat, when that is nothing like she was portrayed. Especially in Ben's eyes, as he would see highly of her.

Conversation
Audrey: I still hear my grandmother's voice... "Well-behaved women often make history."
Lonnie:Yes, you do know the phrase is..."Well-behaved women seldom make history"?
Audrey:Yeah. That's never how she said it.
Lonnie: What were her others?
Audrey: "Just blend in. Let somebody else win."
Lonnie: Classic.
Audrey:I got that a lot growing up. And there was "Give up on your dreams, Audrey." She used to write that in my lunchbox.

Would they wear a mask? Descendants Edition
A/N: I got this idea on a whim so here's a guide to which descendants characters i think would wear a mask, btw this was written before the vaccine was finished so it's a little outdated
Mal Bertha
Tumblr media
She hates masks
Despite hating the rules and feeling ridiculous with a mask on, she'd wear one if absolutely needed
I honestly think she just wouldn't leave the house to avoid having to wear one
Might go out without one but she'd always stay away from people and wouldn't go to stores
She hates wearing a mask and complains 24/7 but as long as she still wears it Ben puts up with it
Ben Florian
Tumblr media
Ben's the best king ever and always wears his mask
He won't bitch about it and influences everyone else around him to wear one as well
No one is allowed anywhere near his castle without a mask
He makes posters about wearing masks for the safety of others but they're not condescending like his dad's propaganda posters and they actually help
Our king will do anything for the safety of the kingdom, no matter how pissed the Karens(Queen Leah) get
Carlos De Vil
Tumblr media
Carlos wears his fucking mask everywhere
Like do not come near him if you're not in a full hazmat suit
You can't tell me this boy wouldn't do anything to stay safe in a global pandemic
Like yes, he's messy and has probably eaten dirt before but he'll do anything to help others
Would definitely get paranoid that Dude will get it so he got him a little dog mask
Jay will laugh his ass off at him obviously
And I guess since dude is technically a character I ought to mention that he will not appreciate it
How is he supposed to sniff and dig with a huge piece a cloth on his face
Dude is an anti masker for sure
Evie Grimhilde
Tumblr media
She a fashion designer, so she loves masks
Of course it's unfortunate that no one can see how perfect her lipstick is but she takes solace in the fact that her mask is gorgeous
She's made so many masks for herself that she's genuinely lost count
Would definitely start a fashionable mask collection and have her own line of apple scented hand sanitizer
Evie would definitely volunteer for charities during quarantine times and donates part of her profits
Jay
Tumblr media
Anti masker
Okay no not really
But god he hates masks so much
He tries to justify it to people by saying "it's just the flu" but ultimately fails
Jay is incredibly bored during quarantine and hates every second so he's pulling a lot of pranks to fight off boredom
Ben hates it cause "OMG JAY NOT THE STATUES"
He's just a little shit, but he will wear a mask if he has to but prepare to hear him whining about it the whole time
He'll tear it off the moment he gets outside though
Audrey
Tumblr media
I'm conflicted about this one
Because we know she's classist and entitled but I'm not sure how she'd react to the mask mandates
I feel like she'd make a video like the one Vanessa Hudgens did
"Like, yeah... people are gonna die.."
She'll wear her mask in public to avoid backlash but she'd probably go to a quarantine party
But as the pandemic progresses she's definitely gonna mature and take it more seriously
Chad Charming
Tumblr media
Bro he's such an anti masker it physically hurts
He hosts quarantine parties and fucking refuses to wear a mask
He will bitch about how opressed he is for not being allowed to go into whole foods without a mask
Probably a coronavirus truther too
Jane
Tumblr media
Wears a fucking hazmat suit to the grocery store
Have you seen how scared she is of literally everything?? She's not taking any chances
Obsessively washes her hands
Will use magic to make Chad put on a mask
Her mom, for once, actually approves of this use of magic because she doesn't want an outbreak at her school
She will force you to wear a mask, if you refuse she'll give you a death stare
Queen Leah
Tumblr media
Has never, will never wear a mask
So fucking entitled it hurts
Everyone hates being around her cause she believes everything she reads
"Audrey, you do know that the masks have microchip trackers in them?" "Grammy, you have to get off Facebook"
A customer service workers worst nightmare
Just the absolute worst
