let me use the little 3 sentences prompt to ask for royal setting midpollo because i can't stop brainrotting it since you've mentioned them in royal au hhh

Beautiful sounds of the violin filled the whole ballroom with its song. There was a constant chatter around but not overwhelming so, just people talking, laughing and enjoying the ball as much as Apollo was.

There weren’t many people sitting down like he did - everyone was too busy dancing, catching up with friends or even sneaking out with lovers - and so Apollo was left mostly alone but he really didn’t mind it. That way, he could just listen to the music in peace and admire the way his husband’s body was moving in a dance.

Midnighter was an excellent dancer, his every move smooth and graceful and Apollo couldn’t (didn’t want to, really) tore his eyes away from him. As if feeling Apollo’s eyes on himself, M looked his way to send him a playful wink.

The song ended soon after that but Apollo still continued to look at Midnighter as he escorted Richard back to Slade.

“Someone was staring.” M grinned when he returned to Apollo's side. He brushed their lips together in a greeting, even if the dance couldn't have lasted longer than five minutes.

“You mean Slade?” Apollo hummed with a smile on his own. “Yes, I find he couldn’t take his eye off of you.”

M laughed, “He’s worse than a dog with a bone. But I wasn’t talking about him this time. You couldn’t tear your eyes away from me, my lord.”

“You say it like it’s my fault that you’re so beautiful.”

Apollo enjoyed the way his husband’s cheeks turned pink with embarrassment. Midnighter was used to comments and compliments but Apollo was the only one to call him ‘beautiful’ and not ‘handsome’.

“So you do admit to your crimes.” Midnighter said, trying to ignore his own blushing.

“I do.” Apollo said fondly.

Midnighter took the goblet out of his hand and took a few sips of the wine. When he kissed him again, it was all Apollo could taste.

Suddenly, the wine tasted a lot better.

“You’re going to scare Richard again.” He muttered but didn’t actually make a move to stop the kiss.

Midnighter chuckled against his lips, “Good. He needs to get used to this anyway.”

Maybe it was because of the look Apollo gave him every time he showed up in a suit instead of his normal all-black outfit. Not the one where he clearly wanted to sigh and roll his eyes. Somehow he managed to keep his uniforms clean around the Spirit of the 21st Century.

No, it was the look Apollo gave him when they were alone, or sometimes when they weren’t, but no one else was looking.

It’s impossible to get milk out of leather, but turns out there are some benefits to Midnighter not being able to wear his normal costume.

Midnighter adjusted his hold to compensate for the way the toddler was leaning. With most kids, he wouldn’t worry, but Jenny was capable of removing the glass so she could get to the snow.

“It’s probably her first time seeing it,” Apollo said quietly.

Jenny squirmed. “Down! Out!”

“You’ll need your coat.”

At Midnighter’s words, Jenny changed direction. Apollo stopped her, holding out her coat. Jenny let him put it on, then she was out the door.

“I sometimes forget she’s a kid, too,” Apollo said as they followed her outside.
