tell me more about classic filk i know a few songs but never got deep into it
Heck YEAH
"Filk" is music (often but not always folk music-style, often but not always song parodies to the tune of famous pre-existing songs) about sci-fi, fantasy, and other fannish topics. Filk circles are popular events at science fiction conventions, and that's really where the genre started. The word "filk" actually arose from a typo in a convention program once, and people just rolled with it ever since!
Some of the most iconic albums in the filk world are the anthology albums "Minus Ten And Counting" (songs about space exploration and the real-life space program), "Carmen Miranda's Ghost" (songs about sci-fi space shenanigans and space ghosts), and "Finity's End: Songs of the Station Trade" (songs set in the world of CJ Cherryh's Alliance-Union novels, and my personal favorite. I've never read any of CJ Cherryh's books, but these songs paint such a vivid world.) "Space Heroes and Other Fools" is another big one, it's more hit-or-miss for me but it's iconic. Other really good and foundational ones are "Divine Intervention" by Julia Ecklar, "Avalon is Risen" by Leslie Fish, and "We Are Who We Are" by Vixy & Tony.
I lean more towards sci-fi and space than fantasy, but fantasy and paganism are huuuugely popular filk topics too.
Some of the most popular names to look into include Leslie Fish (intensely prolific, barely a fraction of her work is on any streaming or music service), Julia Ecklar (famous for her "ose," the filk-world word for sad songs - because they're "ose, more-ose, and even more-ose), Juanita Coulson, Kristoph Klover, Vic Tyler (who just recently died :( rest in peace), Duane Elms, Kathy Mar, Bob Kanefsky, Alexander James (trans, with lots of filk under his previous name as well), Vixy & Tony, and Seanan McGuire. (I like Seanan McGuire's filk music better than her books, hah.) Some other great ones include Cat Faber (most acapella), Astrisoni, The PDX Broadsides, Kari Maaren, and Sassafrass (also mostly acapella. Includes Ada Palmer). Heather Dale, Tom Lehrer, and Jonathan Coulton are kind of honorary filkers too haha.
The best place to get the ones from 80s and 90s cassettes are on the Internet Archive or Youtube; a few filkers who are more currently active have their stuff on Bandcamp.
And I'll leave you with a few of my Favorite Ever filk songs:
"Sam Jones" by CJ Cherryh and Leslie Fish
"Pushin' the Speed of Light" by Julia Ecklar and Anne Prather
"Chickasaw Mountain" by Leslie Fish
"Fire in the Sky" by Jordan Kare
"The Phoenix" by Julia Ecklar
"Freedom of the Snow" by Leslie Fish
"Burn it Down" by Vixy & Tony
"Hope Eyrie" by Leslie Fish, or this Minus Ten And Counting version
"Rocket Rider's Prayer" by Kristoph Klover, Ernie Mansfield, and Cecilia Eng
"Dawson's Christian" by Duane Elms, performed by Vic Tyler or Vixy & Tony
"Somebody Will" by Sassafrass
"Chances & Choices & Fortunes & Fates" by Astrisoni
... my tastes lean sentimental and ose but I swear there's a lot of very funny filk out there too
"Never Set the Cat on Fire" by Frank Hayes (a famous one)
"Banned From Argo" by Leslie Fish (an INFAMOUS one)
"Don't Push That Button" by Duane Elms and Larry Warner
"No More SF Cons" by Juanita Coulson
"One More Ose Song" by B. J. Willinger
everything Bob Kanefsky writes

Trapped (Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle x Reader)
****Situation: Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle x Reader – Lord Voldemort (Tom) in his 30s has captured reader because he has taken interest in her. He still looks handsome. Imagining Actor Tom Hughes as older Tom Riddle in this case, but you're free to imagine the gorgeous and lovely Christian Coulson as well! Warning- lots of make out scenes and lack of consent from reader/possessive Tom. P.S. I don’t condone any sort of toxic behavior or relationships in real life nor am I encouraging anyone to pursue relationships with any murderers in real life. LOL. Anyways, enjoy!****
“Well, well, well.. What have we got here?” You hear a voice as the blindfold is taken off of your eyes.
“What am I doing here?” You ask, feeling scared.
"Oh, come now. Don't be like that. You're here because I've decided to take you with me." You see a man smirking in front of you.
“But why?”
The man holds you chin delicately, but firmly between his fingers making you look directly into his eyes. “My dear, there's no sense in playing stupid. It doesn’t suit you. I took you because I want you.”
“What?”
"You heard me." He approaches you and reaches out to take your hand. "This is fate, sweetheart. The two of us were meant to be."
You quickly retract your hand from his. "I don't even know who you are. What are you talking about?"
He smirks, amused by your reaction. His green eyes shine with a mocking light. "Oh, I'm talking about the fact that I finally met someone more stubborn than me. Don't you have the slightest idea what my name is?"
You shake your head at his question.
He leans closer to you as he talks to you in an alluring whisper. His breath flows over your face. "You really don't know? Well here's a hint." He whispers into your ear.
"I'm the Dark Lord."
Your heart freezes at the name. He's Lord Voldemort? Him? You glance at his appearance, seeing a well-dressed, handsome young man with a dark smirk adorning his face as he looks amused at my startled and confused expression. He's the dark lord that has set terror in the wizarding world.
He sees the effect that his name and identity has on you and chuckles. “It's amusing to see how just the mere mention of my name can terrify you.” This feeling of fear felt delicious to him and he decides to capitalize on this fear.
"So... does my name still sound so unfamiliar to you now?"
“How? How can this be?” You ask out loud to yourself.
He continues to portray a dark smile. He loves that you're so perplexed. "You're a bright girl." He says as he gets even closer to you, his breath blowing against your neck. "But let me help you understand something."
He runs the back of his hand against your neck. "No matter how much has changed, I'm still me, I will like you to join me as a fellow companion and death eater. In return, I will be your Lord and your entire being is now completely mine to consume and possess. Regardless of our circumstances, my dear, I can read your mind like an open book and can see that you can't deny your attraction to me."
“What i feel for you is fear, not attraction. I could never fall for a terrible being like you. You're a monster!” You yell at him in defiance.
He chuckles. "Look at you, trying to hold on to your pride. I admire that.” He moves his mouth even closer to your neck.
"But you can’t resist this feeling... this burning desire. You're feeling the urge to let go and surrender to me. Your body is pleading with you to stop resisting it. That's why you're trembling right now."
"Let go of me." You say sternly, putting your hands on his chest to push him away.
He grasps your wrists firmly and looks deep into your eyes, not letting go of you. "You're playing with fire here."
He moves even closer to you, his mouth almost brushing against yours. "You can't deny the heat between us. Our connection goes far beyond just a physical attraction. It's a powerful and undeniable connection."
Your breath hitches at the feeling of his lips brushing against yours. With his grasp firmly on your wrists, he leans in to kiss you. His lips touch yours, firm and sensual, sending shivers up your spine. He pulls you in so that he’s holding your body tightly against his.
You resist in return, using your hands to push him away from you. But, his grip on your wrists tightens as he moves his mouth against yours, not letting you pull away from him. He keeps his lips pressed against yours, kissing you firmly and passionately. Your bodies confined tightly against each other as he pulls you inhumanly close to him. His breath is hot and raspy, and his touch is rough and overpowering.
You inhale his musky masculine scent filling up your nostrils as he continues to move his lips forcefully against yours and you try your best not to give in, your heart feeling like it will jump out of your body. Your attempts to resist his kisses are futile. He keeps his lips firmly against yours, not letting you pull away. Your lips feel so soft, and the taste of you is addictive to him. He’s determined to have you in every way possible.
He pushes you against the wall as your bodies press tightly against each other. He slips his hands down to your waist and grab your hips firmly, making it clear that there’s no escape from this passionate and consuming embrace.
You whimper as he just gets rougher with you.
But that doesn’t stop his advances. His intentions are set on claiming you as his own. He keeps kissing you while trapping your body with his against the wall. His breath is hot against your neck as he momentarily pulls away from your lips. He can feel you trembling beneath him as you try to resist him.
Your body betrays you, though, with its response to his touches. Even though you're trying your best to hold off his embrace, you find yourself getting closer and closer to succumbing to the desire that he’s eliciting within you.
"Please stop." You whisper, as his lips moves down to your neck.
He chuckles as your efforts to resist him come to waste. His lips move down to your neck kissing the skin beneath tenderly and begins to passionately caress and suck on your neck. His mouth is hot, and his lips are hungry. He can see that you feel him taking control over you as your body responds to the pleasures, he’s giving to you now.
You gasp at the sensation holding onto his shirt tightly as his lips continue to work on your neck. Your gasps of pleasure become more forceful and louder as he continues his explorations of your soft, sensitive skin. You feel his kisses grow more intense and passionate as they trail down the length of your neck. His hot and hungry mouth travels along the back of your neck, taking in every inch of your delicious flesh. As he keeps kissing you, he caresses your body, his hands traveling down your curves and pressing tightly against you.
“Please Lord...” You whisper.
The sound of your pleading only fuels his lust. He wants you to beg for more. He wants your body to surrender to him and give in to his desires. His kisses get harsher, slowly making their way down toward your chest.
“Please. I can't do this. This is wrong.” You try your best to resist him. Your protests are only making him want you more. He hears you begging and pleading, and wants to make you beg for him like a little puppet. Your resistance is futile and hopeless. You cannot keep up with his passionate advances.
"It's only wrong if you want it to be wrong. If you stop fighting me and give into me, this can all feel so right." He proposes as he tries to persuade you to give into your own temptation.
"Stop please." You beg, your nose touching his as his dark eyes look at you intensely.
His eyes pierce into yours, with a gaze is full of desire. “I want you to know that you're mine and that no matter how much you resist me, you're not getting away from me. Your pleas are only making me want you more. Do you not understand, my dear? Your cries of protest are powerless here. This isn't a matter of right and wrong. This is about what you want and need. Let me give you that. Just let go of yourself and surrender to what you really crave."
You shake your head, trying to move away from him. He only tightens his grip on your wrists  in return. He once again leans in and kiss you passionately on the lips while caressing your body. Your protests are futile as you feel his overwhelming presence on you. His control over you is absolute. He kisses you passionately for another long moment, before finally breaking away. He looks at you straight in your eyes, with an intense look. "You're mine."
Something inside you finally snaps and before you can process your actions, you slap him across the face.
His head snaps to the side when you slap him. His eyes widen in shock as the force of your hand leaves a red mark on his cheek. He lets go of your wrists briefly, allowing you to pull away from him. His eyes narrow in anger when he glances at you, the heat in his eyes still radiating with passion and desire.
Your body shakes from fear, afraid for your life as your hands tremble in shock from what you had done. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to..." You say, a tear falling from your eyes as you look down.
He watches you break down and apologize and feels torned between wanting to punish you and the want to kiss you and possess you. He absolutely can't let you get away from him now, and he now feels compelled to pull you back into his grip even tighter.
"Silence." He commands strictly. He doesn’t trust that you're not going to run now, so he pulls you by the wrists again and drags you to face him. "Look into my eyes."
You shriek as you close your eyes from fear before starting to sob. "Please don't kill me!"
"Death is surprisingly the last thing I have in mind. I want you to look into my eyes." He repeats his command in a louder tone while holding onto your wrists, not letting you turn away or run. He’s furious, but also tempted to kiss you, and seeing you distraught is making him feel conflicted.
You open your eyes slowly staring into his as you try to control your sobs. He looks you in the eyes, his gaze burning holes into you. He can feel you shivering and crying because of your fear, and his anger gets replaced with temptation. He feels your body tremble, making him grin with pleasure. He has you right where he wanted. You feel the heat of his breath against your neck as his lips come closer.
“Lord Voldemort, please don't do this. I'll do anything else, I can be a maid, but please don't do this to me. I don't want to be used like this.”
He smirks at your protests. “If you would just surrender to me fully, I'd gladly give you the sweet satisfaction of my embrace. But you keep resisting me. I just want to touch you and have you. Your defiance is irritating me, but I have decided to give you one last chance to surrender to me.” He waits for you to beg again, as he keeps his face close to yours. His lips merely inches away.
"Please..." You whisper one last time, knowing it's no use. He always gets what he wants whether it's the destruction of the worlds or you.
He hear the defeat in your voice, making him much obliged and pleased. You gave in. Your resistance is gone. He feels the victory rushing through him. The look of his face changes. He closes the distance completely between you, and brings his mouth to yours into a harsh kiss.
You slowly respond to his kiss by moving your lips gently against his. Your hand moving up to caress his cheek.
His body dominates over yours, wanting to possess and claim you fully. Your hand on his cheek feels good to him, and your lips moving against his drives him wild with a fiery passion. He grabs around your waist tighter and moves his mouth down along your neck, kissing a path down to your collarbone as you feel his other hand run its fingers along your body.
Your sounds of pleasure are like music to his ears. It felt so good but wrong at the same time. How can you be acting like a lover to one of the most despicable man of all time?
Your conflicting feelings only add to the excitement that he felt. He feels your warm body pressed against his, and his lips start moving back to yours, where they press against yours with desire as he moves closer to you. His tongue starts to explore your lips, and your bodies are grinding together, a sensual friction filling the space between them.
"I'm yours." You whisper against his lips.
The words hit him hard. Your declaration of ownership sends his fire of desire even higher. He pulls away from you momentarily and looks in your eyes as he takes in every inch of your body. He decides to take you in completely. He doesn’t want you to run away. He wants you to be his for as long as he requires.
Like a doll, you submit to everything that he likes and you hardly flinch as he takes off the layer of fabric on your body. Every piece falling down to the ground.
He examines your soft flesh from every inch, devouring you with as eyes as he memorizes every detail, taking his time to admire your exquisite curves. This is exactly how he wants you, to belong to him utterly in the most intimate way possible. HIs hands start tracing patterns on your skin, slowly and methodically. Yours and his sighs of pleasure fills the room as he finally claims you as his.
Your body moves in sync with his, and your sighs of pleasure are music to his ears. Your bodies collide together, moving together in an intimate and passionate harmony. His body fueled and consumed with a raging desire as it blends tightly with yours, filling you with a feeling of pure ecstasy.
When it's all over, the high of pleasure finally coming down, and your body lies next to his. Your heart drops with the deadly feeling of guilt and disgust within yourself. You were just as despicable as him if not more.
He lays next to you, taking in what a sight you are after this passionate session. Your body is glistening with perspiration, and your breath is heavy just like his. He looks at you with want as he continues to caress your body with his fingers, his touch uncharacteristically light and soft as he traces across the contour of your feminine curves. He wanted to make this pleasurable feeling last for you for as long as possible before the crushing guilt comes setting in.
You turn around with your back facing him as tear drops fall from your eyes knowing now that there is no more escaping him.
He smiles since he noticed the silent tears fall down your cheeks. Your pain only fills him with satisfaction. He knows that you're experiencing conflicting emotions right now, but won’t allow you to escape that easily. He sits up and moves his body around you to where you can lay on his chest. He massages your hair gently as he moves one of him arms around you to momentarily comfort you. But secretly, he just wanted to hold you.
You let him hold and comfort you, but you knew that now you were just a servant to the Dark Lord. You no longer owned any wills or desires of your own. You now belonged to him.
He’s delighted as he holds your body tightly against his, feeling your body moulding to his. Your submission was another achievement of his and he’s content with this moment. Your tear-soaked face is so beautiful to him, like an artistic painting of despair and submission.

March Reading and Reviews by Maia Kobabe
I post my reviews throughout the month on Storygraph and Goodreads, and do roundups here and on patreon. Reviews below the cut.
Delicious in Dungeon vol 4 by Ryoko Kui
I'm reading these books so fast I can barely remember which parts of the plot happened in which volume but know that I am still having a great time!
Delicious in Dungeon vol 5 by Ryoko Kui
Oh, this story has taken a darker turn, and also just introduced a whole bunch more characters. Will I be able to keep track of them all? I hope so!
Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb, read by Anne Flosnik
Unfortunately, this is definitely the weakest Robin Hobb book I've read so far. I was expecting to like it less than the glorious, 5-star previous trilogy, but I actually think I'm going to skip the rest of the Rain Wild Chronicles and read summaries online to get to the next Fitz books. This book follows five main POV characters. This works fairly well for the first half, when the characters are all in different physical locations. However once all of the characters meet up, we start getting the same scene from multiple different POVs, which feels extremely repetitive. Also, almost EVERY SCENE includes a flashback, often a lengthy flashback, sometimes to something that happened only the previous day and could have been told as present-moment action. This writing choice baffled me. It's something I can't remember struggling with in any of Hobb's previous books, but by the end it was driving me up a wall. The book also moved very slowly; the stakes feel lower, and the character far less emotionally true than in the two Fitz trilogies. Disappointing, but I will keep moving forward towards the next part of the series I want to read.
Delicious in Dungeon vol 6 by Ryoko Kui
Damn, a lot of characters get murdered in this volume! Good thing almost everyone who dies in the dungeon can be revived. Also, very excited to finally meet the cat ninja I've been seeing fan art of since before I even started the series :3
Delicious in Dungeon vol 7 by Ryoko Kui
I am still completely caught up in this series. I love the glimpse of Senshi's past revealed in this volume, and the lore of the dungeon that is still being revealed. There was a line in here about how the dungeon leaves you alone if you don't ask much of it, but that if you have strong desires it throws even more obstacles into your way. Our heroes have such big goals right now, but they're marching ahead regardless!
School Trip by Jerry Craft
A satisfying new installment in the New Kid series from funny, talented, charming Jerry Craft! I appreciated how this volume started to complicate some of the students who had been left a bit one-dimensional in previous books. Several people stood up to and called out a bully; new friendships were built; and Jordan Banks left Paris even more inspired than ever to follow his dreams of becoming an artist. This series has a lot of jokes, but also a lot of heart!
A Frog in Fall (and Later On) by Linnea Sterte
Minor frog is less than a year old, and is dismayed when winter begins to steal all of the light and warmth from his world. Instead of bunking down safely with his mentor to wait for spring, he sets out on a journey with two vagabond toads passing by on a quest to make it all the way to the tropics. They tramp through the Japanese countryside, encountering tree spirits, new friends, dangers, and views the likes of which minor frog had never even imagined. This is a gorgeous book; every page worth pouring over, an economy of line and detail building a beautiful and mysterious world of talking animals and miniature packaged foods. Made me want to draw.
Dark Rise by CS Pacat read by Christian Coulson
In 1820s London, orphaned Will tries to earn enough as a dockworker to survive- and evade the killers pursuing him. Violet dresses in her half-brother's clothes and sneaks onto a ship in the Thames to watch a man be branded with his master's mark. Katherine excitedly anticipates her engagement to one of London's richest and most mysterious lords; his gallantry nearly makes up for the fact that he's twice her age. And in the bowels of one of that lord's ships, James tortures a man for information. All of these characters are 16 or 17 years old, but all of them are tangled in an ancient conflict between the Light and the Dark which stretches back into an age of magic before history. This is CS Pacat's YA fantasy debut, and it contains a lot of tropes very familiar to both YA and high fantasy- there are shades of both Tolkien and Rowling in this. Its fast-paced and action-packed, but especially in the first third of the story, the characters all felt fairly thin. None of them have quirks, hobbies, career hopes, relationships outside of immediate family, school, or work; or much more than a brief sketch of past. It took until the mid-way point for what I consider Pacat's major strengths as a writer to emerge: intense, homoerotic interpersonal sparring between characters operating under major power imbalances. Every scene in which the seductive, manipulative, powerful evil gay faced off against the good boy chosen one crackled with energy. Unfortunately, there were only four of these scenes in the whole book. It ends on a cliff-hanger, because of course it does, with a tempting set up for book two; but that doesn't entirely excuse the fact that the first 50% felt like set up. I will definitely keep reading, but long-time Pacat fans should take note that this is toned down version of what I expected based on Captive Prince.
Feeding Ghosts by Tessa Hulls (re-read before event)
What an accomplishment! I savored every page of Feeding Ghosts, absolutely floored by the labor and courage that went into the writing of this book. The inking is gorgeous, the history is clear, digestible, and devastating. This book threads the line between honesty and compassion in a way that I appreciate so much in any memoir, but especially one dealing with family. Hulls lays out the story of three generations of women starting with her grandmother, Sun Yi, a Shanghai journalist who faced intense persecution during the rise of Communism in China, who penned a popular and scandalous memoir and then suffered a mental breakdown. This left her only daughter, Rose, a student at an elite boarding school with no parental figures and no other family to lean on. Eventually Rose earned a scholarship to an American university and in the end moved her mother into her California home. Sun Yi haunted that home during the author's own childhood. The unexamined trauma and codependency of Sun Yi and Rose drove the author to the extreme edges of the Earth, seeking freedom from their ghosts. But in the end, she stopped running from her family history and turned, instead, to face it. Shelve this book with Maus, Fun Home, Persepolis and The Best We Could Do. Re-read it for a second time and got even more out of it on a second pass.
Delicious in Dungeon vol 8 by Ryoko Kui
Laios and company realize that their encounter with changling mushroom rings had more consequences than they'd realized- its the body swap episode! This visual humor is contrasted against increasing dangers from both above and below, as nastier monsters and political machinations begin to close in on our heroic adventuring party. I'm now over halfway through this series and almost feel like I should start reading it more slowly to savor it, but I'll probably just keep devouring it instead.
Lunar New Year Love Story by Gene Luen Yang and Leuyen Pham
High school senior Val grew up knowing her family was unlucky in love; for generations, relationships in her family have ended in heartbreak. Her childhood love of Valentines Day ends with a shocking family revelation and what feels like the beginning of a curse. Then her Vietnamese grandmother sweeps her off to a Lunar New Year celebration in downtown Oakland and a pair of cute lion dancer boys catch her eye. Could one of them break the spell on her heart? This story offers a classic and satisfying rom-com, with Val torn between an outgoing, rich, but flaky boy and a broody, shy, loyal one. The story takes several kdrama style twists and includes ghosts, saints, red envelopes, confessions, fights, reunions, tears, and kisses. For a comic, its wordy; the pages are dense with small panels and thick with dialogue, but also illustrated with such warm, humor, and realism. I really liked that the story included as much of Val's relationship with her family and best friend as romance. And the lion dancing scenes practically leap off the page with color and energy!
Witch Hat Atelier vol 10 by Kamome Shirahama
This series remains as visually stunning as ever but I'm struggling with how every single book expands the cast. There are so many characters now that I don't care about that much, and have trouble remembering from volume to volume. I wish the story line would stick more closely to Coco, her classmates, and their main mentors!
Delicious in Dungeon vol 9 by Ryoko Kui
Oh the stories are all converging! The savior at the bottom of the dungeon is probably a demon! Ituzumi saves the day! I am still having a great time reading this series.
A Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson read by Abby Craden
A short, very queer, very poly retelling of Dracula focusing on his coven of enthralled lovers. I liked the way the book breezed through history, as the dysfunctional little family moved from one major European city to the next, with snatched moments of glittering joy interwoven with violence and plague. The story is fairly simple, and has a happier ending than I expected, or honestly think the characters deserved.
City of Dragons by Robin Hobb
I DNFed the previous book in this series and just read a summary online before skipping ahead to this one. I think that was a very good choice for me. This third one was more engaging and a bit more action packed, with some cool discoveries about the city of Kelsingra and the nature of Elderlings. But the Rain Wild Chronicles as a whole do not stand up to the quality of the Farseer books. There are so many POV characters that a few of them get only two or three scenes in this whole book. I don't feel that I deeply know any of these characters; while at the same time watching Hobb pair them off at an extraordinary rate- in the last book five sets of characters got together and in this book an additional two couples are developing feelings for each other. Between this and a kidnapping, a birth, a murder, and a lot of blackmail, this series feels like a soap opera.
Delicious in Dungeon vol 10 by Ryoko Kui
Almost two TPKs in this volume, yikes!
Delicious in Dungeon vol 11 by Ryoko Kui
You know shit's getting serious when the character who has been the series main villain up until now is partially devoured by a different, worse villain. Exciting changes coming to this dungeon under it's new lord and master!
Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Sterle
When Becca gets invited to sit with the popular girl clique at her new high school, she's thrilled. But the friendship turns bloody and complicated when she learns that her new friends are actually werewolves who need to kill and feed on a human once a month. If she joins them, Becca will gain superhuman strength and a pack; she'll never have to fear a male predator again, because she will be a predator herself. I loved the queer rep and the twist on werewolf lore; I wish it had been a little longer and more developed. Give me multi-page transformations sequences!
Delicious in Dungeon vol 12 by Ryoko Kui
I love seeing all these plot lines come together! Building towards a wild climax.
Delicious in Dungeon vol 13 by Ryoko Kui
I went out and *bought* vol 13 of this series because my library didn't have it yet, that's how hooked I am. And now I have to wait until JULY for the final volume! (But also, thank goodness I didn't get into this series any sooner or I'd have a much longer wait).

I’m on my (third?) watch of Agents of Shield, currently on 2x08, The Things We Bury. And it just occurred to me how good the parallel stories are in this episode in particular, all centering around the title.
(This breakdown got a lot more in-depth than I was expecting, so I’m putting the rest under a cut)
Storyline 1: the backstory of Daniel Whitehall. Shortly after finding a person (Jiaying) who can survive contact with the Obelisk, Whitehall and his men are captured by the Allied forces (as seen in 2x01). After being interrogated by Peggy Carter, Whitehall is consigned to a Shield prison for life. But that is not his end - HYDRA members release him from prison decades later, where he can continue his research on the Obelisk, experiment on Jiaying, and work his way to the position he holds in HYDRA in the modern day.
Whitehall: We could learn so much together.
Peggy: Instead we’ll forget. Forget you, forget your work. When I leave no one else will come. No one to hear your stories, study your deadly artifacts. You’ll be buried.
Whitehall: I seriously doubt that. Nothing stays buried forever.
Storyline 2: Grant Ward kidnaps his older brother Christian to have an emotional confrontation about their abusive past. They go to the site of the well (from episode 1x08), where Grant forces Christian to unearth it. The entire time, the brothers accuse each other of gaslighting and manipulation, blaming the other for the events of that day. Once the well is revealed, Grant threatens Christian until his brother confesses to forcing Grant during the incident at the well. The storyline ends with a news story reporting the deaths of Christian and his parents.
Christian: The well. You still blame me for the well. We both know that it was you who nearly killed Thomas down there.
Grant: Do you sleep better telling yourself that?
Christian: You know, I don’t know what crazy lies that you have built up all these years, but the well doesn’t even exist anymore. It’s gone. Mom and Dad buried it.
Grant: (pause) Oh, no. They just covered it up.
Storyline 3: the search for the alien city. Taking inspiration from Fury, Coulson decides to one-up HYDRA by putting in place a series of dominoes that will gain him access to a satellite. This allows the team to locate the alien city,
Coulson: We may actually have a shot at finding the city.
Skye: Are you sure it’s something you wanna dig up?
Coulson: If we don’t, HYDRA will. We need to get there first.
I just love the juxtaposition between the three storylines! From figurative digging into Bakshi and archived Shield files in storyline 1, to literal digging in storyline 2, to the city in storyline 3 being underground, all are about the things that get buried (hence the title) but not destroyed. Usually “bury” implies a final ending, as in burying a body, but this episode shows that buried is not the same as forgotten.
Daniel Whitehall is able to gain a new life and new identity. The well is unearthed and the Ward brothers’ past is laid bare. The alien city, which was lost for thousands of years, is discovered. And to dig more into storyline 1, Whitehall’s background in 2x08 teases parts of Skye’s background - more past which was buried (redacted by Shield) that is now being revealed. Jiaying’s barely-living body is dumped in a ditch in lieu of a burial, and in 2B we learn she was nursed back to health. The buried live once more.
Season 2A is all about the past coming back in full force to influence the present, and this episode is chock-full of that theme. More specifically, parts of the past that were supposed to be hidden or forgotten, parts which are demanding themselves to be known again.
This right here is the Good Shit™️, aka my favorite part of this show, and I’m so fucking pumped!

What are your favorite harry ships??
I am SO glad you asked. Harry is my fandom bicycle and the reason I count myself as a multi-shipper.
In general, I like my Harry-ships to be relatively ‘equal’, if that makes sense. Harry or the other character should be capable of holding their own; big power differences are not my cup of tea (though they can be intriguing and, dare I say it, hot). They can kick each other’s arses, is what I mean by that.
I also don’t mind a male Harry, female Harry, or NB Harry. I like ‘em all, just for clarification.
For the basics: both Drarry and Harmione are near and dear to my heart. Rivals-to-lovers and friends-to-lovers, my beloved. These ships feel comfortable and familiar, and they’re usually my go-to for post-canon fluff or hurt/comfort. (I also like Dramione and Romione btw. I know that’s not what you asked about but I’m just putting it out there.)
I’m also known to have indulged in Ronarry and Sirry (Sirius/Harry) on occasion. And with smaller characters: Harry/Theo Nott, Harry/Blaise Zabini, Harry/Daphne Greengrass, Harry/Viktor Krum, Harry/Cedric Diggory… yeah. Harry/Cho and Hinny are fine, but not ones I’d purposefully seek out. In time travel AUs, I genuinely, really like Harry/Orion Black—possibly because it reminds me of Prongsfoot.
Most importantly: my absolute favourite at the moment is Tomarry/Harrymort. I don’t know why—it just appeals to me. Harry’s my boy, and I actually quite like Voldemort’s character as a fully-rounded villain or annoying, emotionally constipated teenager. Christian Coulson as Tom Riddle had me (like many others) in a chokehold when I was little so Diary!Tom is Voldy-version I absolutely adore, but Silver Fox!Voldemort and Snakeymort I love as well. And again, this is as long as the power dynamics aren’t too fucked up (purely for my personal taste): other aspects can be Morally Wrong or Really Fucked Up and I’ll lick the plate clean lmao. I like it when Voldemort becomes ‘better’, I like it when Harry becomes ‘worse’… cleansing or corruption, both are good.
It’s something something soulmates, I suppose!! Their inherent connection, their similarities. Harry has the potential (!!!) to become an ‘equal’ in power to Voldemort eventually (provided he trains and studies) (the detail that Voldemort canonically has more magical power is why a lot of fix-it fics add that Harry had a ‘binding’ on his ‘magical core’ which limits the power he can put into something; either to prevent the horcrux from holding on too tightly or to make him easier to kill). Harry has, canonically, power over Voldemort in the way that he’s part of Voldemort. Their wand cores match as much as they can possibly match (feathers given by the same phoenix at the same time). Voldemort accidentally damned Harry to have a similar childhood as he did. They both see Hogwarts as their first home; they’re both half-bloods; they both didn’t feel like they truly belonged in both the muggle and magical world, though for varying reasons. Harry can understand Voldemort on a level that lies the latter bare and open, which is not something that Voldemort would ever want or appreciate. And the dichotomy between core parts of their personalities — Harry’s kindness, Voldemort’s cruelty — is delicious.

Now that you have answered my curiosity of how you depict Voldemort I’m really curious on how you see Tom Riddle 😩 me personally I’ve always loved how he was from chamber of secrets, played by Christain Coulsons. But I’ve read so many fics and noticed that everyone has their own idea of how you looked, so now I’m very curious on how you imagine him.
Peace <3
Honestly, Coulson slays as Tom Riddle. He’s perfectly cast as Tom and he has all of it down pat. Just a perfect Tom. I think they wasted a great opportunity to have him in Half-Blood Prince flashbacks from the books, really. I think he can play Tom all until the DADA interview. Yeah, so for Tom, Christian Coulson all the way, perfectly cast.
Tumblr media
Though, I need to add this one out of responsibility because this fanart of Tom is also pretty accurate to his book description in Hogwarts Era, even though personally I imagine Coulson.
Tumblr media
Now, if you are asking about an older Tom, that's where it gets tricky. (We were robbed in Half-Blood Prince, I tell you. ROBBED.)
Flayu is an amazing artist, I always keep bumping into their work when searching for Tom. Here is Tom by Flayu, and I think this would be very good for Locket! Tom. I think he is the handsomest of the Horcruxes, the "most handsome than he has ever been" Tom when he went to visit Hepzibah. Though he is missing his "longer hair" here but his facial structure is very accurate. This is a young man, not a teenager.
Tumblr media
Then again, it’s really subjective regarding Horcruxes and their forms. I like the thought of slicked-back hair Tom because it's one of the 'gentlemanly' hairstyles I believe, but enough for him to stand out among the crowd and not have a side-part like most men in the 50s. I'm really no expert on Tom unfortunately, but these are my takes.
Plus, I consider the Locket and the Diadem among the dangerous ones. Danger zone would go 1. Locket 2. Diadem 3. Diary.
And again, I am sending you to @leafiloaf and @nv-tumb because they do a killer job of drawing Tom in their illustrations, too! He's gorgeous in both! And @pixennonart has some great drawings of Tom, as well, theirs is also pretty accurate to how I imagine Tom in his 30s. Also, @longdaytogo has illustrated Tom (both Hogwarts era and adult with Nagini) and their illustration made me go "oh, that's what the craze is all about" and made me go "oh, I get it. Totally get it now. I too, would tell him all my dark secrets and whatever he wants. Completely understandable, nobody stood a chance."
Addition: Tom Hughes! (it's a hit or miss and completely depends on people’s preferences, really)
Coulson would have killed the role in HBP, and I will never be over the fact we got stupid teenage drama bs instead of Lord Voldemort's past, the Gaunts, Hepzibah, and more insight into the Riddle Murder. The content was right there. Gosh, thank God for fanfic. Idk who made the decision to skip those scenes (literally what the book is all about), but I'd fire them on the spot for suggesting to skip those scenes. They'd be flying out of the studio doors.
Thank you for the ask. Sending love ❤️

Voice Appreciation Post
I’ve always loved certain voices. Mostly male voices of a certain timbre, I cannot explain their sound exactly, but when I hear these voices, it does something to me, not necessarily in a romantic/sexual way, mind you. I just enjoy them, very much. They are soothing and relaxing and I could listen to these voices forever. They could say the dumbest or most mundane things, but I would still listen to the sound of them.
And it doesn’t even matter what language they are speaking. I’m German, so my first “voice crush” (if you want to call it that) was a popular voice actor we have here (you see, most/all of foreign movies and shows and video games are being dubbed here and that in a very high quality kind of way), who voiced the German version of Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed II or Geralt of Rivia in the Witcher games, etc. (making these characters my all-time favorite videogame characters, btw).
I also enjoy listening to Japanese seiju - which makes it hard sometimes to read the subtitles of my favorite anime/drama, as I only listen (without understanding much) and enjoy. I don’t know what it is about Japanese men, but most of them just sound so good to me.
As for my newest (or oldest) love and obsession and why I’m writing this post to begin with: I also have a knack for British guys. It’s the accent (I’m not an expert on British accents so I couldn’t tell you which dialect it is or from where it hails, except maybe the Scottish accent, but that’s a no-brainer and also a favorite of mine). So I’ve had my voice crushes on, let’s say, Giles from Buffy, or Mr. Sheffield from The Nanny. (Or maybe I always liked older men too? Hmm.)
This also explains my deep obsession with Chamber of Secrets’ Tom Riddle played by Christian Coulson, whose voice is just, so, ugh. (Highly recommend any audio books he has narrated!) I can’t explain it. It just does things to me.
And the same happened when I played Hogwarts Legacy. I became totally obsessed by one particular voice and you might have guessed from the tags. Sebastian Sallow is not only the best character of the whole game, because he is so versatile and conflicted and adorable and whatnot, but his voice... the way his voice actor (Alfie Nugent, you are my absolute hero, btw!) says things, how his voice just vibrates through me, so low at times, the perfect timbre, no matter what situation Sebastian finds himself in, cheeky, flirty, worried, sad, it always sounds so mind-bogglingly good to me.
I find myself listening to his voice lines over and over again (thank you YouTube) and it helps me so much in writing my fanfiction. I love his voice, really, truly love his voice, it gives me all the good vibes love would do (in a completely platonic kind of way). And it’s just a voice.
Now, speaking about voices, I have to address the AI issue. Is it an issue? Well, I do feel bad for voice actors whose voices are (ab)used without their consent, but from a fan perspective it is the best thing that ever happened to this world. (That took a turn, eh?) Having all these creative people of the Hogwarts Legacy fandom create their own voice lines for Sebastian (and other charaters for that matter) is truly such a blessing. Every day I find more and they are all so good and authentic and the way an AI program can mimic these perfect voices is just beyond me.
So thank you, lovely people who have perfected ElevenLabs, and thank you to the original voice actors for providing those voices in the first place. I salute you all. I thank your voices for keeping me sane in these troubling times we live in.

I saw in one of your posts that you imagine Tom Hughes as Tom Riddle, I am so glad I am not the only one. Every time I see Tom Hughes I think of Tom Riddle. As much as I love Christian Coulson I feel like Hughes is just the perfect fan cast for an older Tom Riddle.
On another note, how have you been recently? I hope you are staying safe and taking care of yourself.
Hi!
Likewise, though! I love Christian Coulson for a more teenage, Hogwarts-era Tom Riddle, but he just seems too young in my opinion for anything post-Hogwarts. Especially in Appetence where he's meant to physically look in his late 20s-early 30s, I just can't see Coulson in that role 😅 While their facial structures are pretty similar, Hughes has more of an angular look to him that makes him appear older (and also a bit more, well, sophisticated? powerful? sinister 😂). To me at least, Riddle-Coulson seems like he could kill a man, but there would still be some regrets about it/uncertainty. Riddle-Hughes though just flat-out looks like he could kill someone and still have a good night's sleep afterwards 😂 You know what I mean? Like just look at him (also his smirk? Good shit 😂)
Tumblr media
Also, thank you for checking in! 💕 I'm doing a lot better mental health-wise— I've been dealing with some physical health issues lately though, but I seem to be on the mend! I hope you're taking care of yourself as well and are staying safe!! 💕💕
Thanks for the message!
Until next time 💕

Part 2 of something no one asked for.
Tumblr media
Christian Coulson, yeah I like both the actors who played Riddle, I have a thing for him.
Tumblr media
Who does not have a crush on him currently, but I am proud to say I have liked him since his Hannah Montana episode, plus also Aliens in the attic era, did you know? He was in Icarly too?
Tumblr media
Bucky was always my favourite comic book character, and when I got to know our dear Chase from covenant is playing him, I went crazy.
Tumblr media
He is also rather a common crush, but I admire how much struggle he did to be that common crush.
Tumblr media
Did you really think he won't be there? Come on...
Tumblr media
Ram charan, something from my own country, hello?
Tumblr media
Well there is this guy too, Lucas Till, I forgot about him but I remembered him while rewatching hannah montana the movie and then it led me to watch 'You belong with me' music video again by Taylor Swift
Well that's it, it's the end!

8. Oldest WIP
My Hemispheres series. I've actually (FINALLY) been working on Chapter 2 of Part 3 the last few days, but I mean, this monster baby is going to go for a while, I think. I don't have an entire end goal in mind other than it'll likely somehow come full circle to the first part where Tony had woken up in the 'other universe' married to Loki, which was what sparked him - upon returning to his own universe - to go get Loki out of Asgardian prison.
28. Favourite side character
I've got a couple. Coulson, JARVIS, the elevator at the Avengers Tower, Agent Melinda May, (various of the AoS characters, actually), Sif and Fandral (odd that). And that's in Marvel, which is my main fandom to write for. If I write more for Stranger Things, I'll likely have other favorite sides like Robin or Dustin or even Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers. If I wrote more Hannibal, it would definitely be Beverly Katz and Winston (the dog).
33. Have you ever killed a main character?
Yes, essentially. Sort of. In They Bid Me Take My Place Among Them, I didn't really kill Tony, Loki, and Nat, but it was post-Endgame, and it was a short thing where the three of them are already dead - that Tony dies but shows up in Valhalla where Loki greets him and shows him that Nat's there, too. In You are the ghost behind my eyes, I essentially kill Old Steve. And in the Outside the dawn is breaking (But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free) series, my X3 Fix-it series, in Pt 2, I'll be killing off a (sort of) main character, and in Pt 3, I'll be killing off another (sort of) main character. I will say that it won't be either character of the story's ship, and it won't be any of the ones who are helping the ship.
36. Last sentence you wrote
From Chapter 2, Pt 3 Hemispheres:
(Loki is speaking to Steve)
“I encountered a quote while studying the internet, and while the person who said this seems to have been a somewhat…well, not nice politician, the quote is appropriate, I think. ‘If you are cold, tea will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; If you are depressed, it will cheer you; If you are excited, it will calm you’,” he said and mirrored the way Steve rested his hip against the counter so that they faced one another. “So to answer your remark, yes, I really do like tea. I’ve seen the selection in the communal kitchen, and then Anthony and Bruce showed me websites where I could order what I like, and even Ms. Potts has suggested some of her favorites.”
40. Share some backstory for one of your characters
Emma Frost was born into a very wealthy family whose income has banked on the textile industry since the 1600s. Her father wielded his wealth and power with an iron fist, often that he'd use to keep his children, especially Christian and Emma, in line. The whole of her childhood was spent being groomed to be in control (and yet to still be controlled as her father never relinquished his control), to be powerful and intelligent, and to want far more than she wanted (which was to be a teacher). From her father's abuse and her mother's alcoholic/drug abuse apathy, she then experienced the lusts and abuse by teachers and then later Sebastian Shaw, though she did finally claim her power as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club before finally realizing her dream of being a teacher when she had her own school in Boston. While still being viewed as a villain, Emma experienced the devastating heartbreak of losing all of her students in Genosha, and not long past that, she was treated with constant suspicion when she joined the team/teachers at the Xavier Institute. Where she would spend far too many years of her life being compared to and treated as second choice/consolation prize to a corpse that refuses to stay dead.
Thank you for the asks!

Actually actually actually wait wait wait my ULTIMATE old man ship is Luthe/Darcy. Iykyk 🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭🥺😭🥺😭🥺😭🥺😭🥺
Drawing's a bit different l to writing I think. for drawing I just struggle through it until it passes the ugly phase. literally just got to trust the process
For writing I play it like a movie in my head. But one that's being spoken about as if I'm reading it, if that makes sense . Like coming up with scenarios as you go to sleep but you write it down. I don't think about it I don't know how well that would work if you're like riding a whole plot and not just some self-indulgent whatever bullshit lol
