Jiang Fengmian and Wei Changze decidedly to bring Wei Ying with them to the conference because they fear what the child would do if left alone back in Lotus Pier - they could be back to see the sect flourishing under the guide of a 8 years old or to disciples running around in panic because their second young master burned another building or just disappeared (or worst, both).

This time the conference was in Qinghe Nie's Unclean Realm and the tension was a little higher than normal due to Wen Ruohan. Fortunately, Wei Ying seemed oblivious to it, looking around with sparkling curious eyes.

Recently, the leader of the Wen sect started to amass power, more than normal, and acting, unsurprisingly, arrogant and making everyone else uncomfortable in a way. No one wanted to offend him or to get too much of his attention, the only one going against common sense was the currently Nie sect leader, and Wei Changze worried.

Maybe it wasn't the best choice to bring Wei Ying.

Sighing, Wei Changze followed his leader and brother around with a polite smile and a hand against his son's small back to guide him to walk with them (and to know when he decides to run away from what he calls "boring adult stuff"). They made small talk with other sects, greeting whoever they knew when passing by, introducing Wei Ying to other kids around in hopes he would behave like his age for today.

"Jiang zongzhu." came the greeting when they were returning to their seats as the conference was about to begin.

"Wen zongzhu." Jiang Fengmian bowed, followed by Wei Changze and Wei Ying.

"Ah, is this the famed brother?" the sect leader looked at the man with grey eyes with an empty smile.

"Wei Changze is honored to be noticed by sect leader Wen." he bowed formally.

"Wei? I thought you would adopt your father's name at first opportunity." the smile turned a bit ironic before looking down to the child behind his father's leg, pausing for a moment "And who is this?"

"I'm Wei Ying." the child said, bowing as formally as his father did.

"Ah, the little genius the Jiang clan caught." Wen Ruohan nodded a greeting back "You have your father's eyes. But your face..." with intensity, the sect leader crouched down to the child's level and analyzed his small face "Do you know your mother's family, perhaps?"

Wei Ying shook his head "Only a-die's...."

"I see..." Wen Ruohan lifted his hand and held Wei Ying's face, turning from side to side with delicacy "It's curious how much you look like that woman."

"What woman, if I may ask?" Wei Changze was starting to sweat in nervousness.

Wen Ruohan turned back with a smile "The woman I wanted to marry before my wife."

"Before your wife?" Wei Ying asked.

"Yes. I was a young man in love, you see. But then my father arranged my marriage and that woman ran away and I never saw her again. Perhaps she was with my first born in her belly?"

"Hm.... My mother? The first born?"

Wen Ruohan's eyes widened, together with Wei Changze's.

"A little genius, indeed." Wen Ruohan laughed.

A rather familiar laugh that made Wei Changze shiver.

"Father, it's time." a new voice approached them.

"A-Xu, come." Wen Ruohan said, without looking back "Meet your jiejie's son."

"Jiejie?" Wen Xu looked curious.

"Yes."

Both Wen Ruohan and Wei Ying turned to look at the young man with identical smile that shocked everyone that was looking (and eavesdropping) at the scene.

"I see." Wen Xu said after a moment "Nice to meet you. Apparently, I'm your... uncle."

"Perhaps we could arrange a visit after this conference end, what do you think?" Wen Ruohan booped Wei Ying's small nose with a smile.

"Eh~" Wei Ying lifted an eyebrow then shrugged "Ok."

Wei Changze would definitely drink until he passed out that night just to run away from his worries for a few hours at least.

He definitely should have left Wei Ying behind.

I don't remember it had been so pale at first, and it didn't do much at all for the first 1,5 years besides losing all the teeny leaves at the bottom. It was sitting near a north facing window in a shelf, though, so that may have been... suboptimal. Now in the new apartment I only have south facing windows, which would probably kill the plant after a while, so I placed it in a shelf with a grow light and that's where it not only gained a lot of color, but also started to grow finally! I'm really happy to see it finally likes it's spot! 🩷

#so thinking abt my inability to do things in thr context of my 0cd is interesting. bc i would say my primary problem is my obsessive #compulsive behavior and inflexibility. idk if thr inflexibility is inherent to me bc its part of the reason i got stamped with aut1sm or but #its part of what maked it so hard to tell if i had 0cd or not. bc im just so fucking rigid and structured abt literally everything without #any reason. y do i have to do X thing and i cant do Y thing? idk my brain just says i cant. which kinda does align with 0cd more or just #like something compulsive. and its sorta weird bc i think im a lot more aligned with purely obsessional 0cd. so i dont do a lot of external #ritual. its more abstract. like constantly i have to work or b perfect or else i start getting intrusive thoughts. always thr same ones. and #to make them go away i have to physically suffer usually thru overworking to my mental breaking point or sometimes more direct ways #when its really bad. and then i have to keep working. and i do a lot of fucking ruminating. fucking constand catogorizing and pathological #self reflection. again i have high standards and high affinity for self punishment which is a lot to deal with. its exhausting and misery #making. and the annoying thing is that im like this for a reason. i mean it makes sense. having a learning disability plus bad short term #working memory plus some mood weirdness. ive created a structure that makes me productive but also creates so much pressure thst i cant #function at all sometimes. and whats worse is that even then even with the amount of checking i do i am still a master of fucking up the lil #things. i forgot to write my name in the autoclave list and caused problems for ppl bc i forgot when i went up there Even tho i new i needed #to. i also forgot to put thr foam cap on a liquid nitrogen tank which would have been SO FUCKING BAD if it all evaporated. so many samples #woulf have been lost bc i just fucking forgot to put it back. that was just this week. idk i just forget things like that. i left a freezer #door open in hs and we lost everything in the freezer. i also fucked up an whole experiment by not reading a schedule right. and its really #frustrating not being able to trust that youve done the right thing in the past. not to mention all the bullshit i mislabel but thats more #dys1exia realated. alas. i check and check and get anxious spikes of: FUCK DID I DO X? for a reason. but also its no fun #unrelated

#it's really crazy how things can influence you without you ever realizing like. i was really into Kung Fu Panda after it first came out #like REALLY into Kung Fu Panda #2008??? damn i would have been like 11/12 #anyway i read this fic called Memoirs of a Master written by someone obviously a lot older and smarter than me and i just loved it #it was about Tigress and Po discovering Shifu's diaries (he was on a trip i think) #and so that was the framing device like it was Tigress and Po kinda guiltily reading this diary and learning about Tai Lung and all that #and i read a LOT of Kung Fu Panda fic so it wasnt like this one was particularly special to me *at the time* #(again i was like 12 i just liked anything that made my brain go brrrr. i read a lot of fic about rhe cast of KFP getting magically #transported into the KFP universe like i wasnt a literature connoisseur by any means) #but over the years i just never stopped thinking about Memoirs of a Master #and this isnt even the same framing device it's just similar but i cant even describe to you how much of this fic simply *is* #Memoirs of a Master #like obviously it's not. you could read that and then read this once i finish and notice maybe loke 3 superficial similarities #but at the same this fic would simply not exist without it #not to quote kamala harris of all people but you really do exist in the context of all that came before you #anyway. #the warped maniacal mind of wizard glick at work #oh yes also idk other ppl's hesdcanons for the other von karma daughter but i went with Verena because #1) i thought it was pretty #2) it means 'truth' or 'verity' #3) it doesnt make sense with the surname— 'truth from karma' is meaningless and i have her as kind of distant from the family #4) it showed up on random list of 'german names that were popular in the 80s' i found. didnt bother to do the math or even pick an age #for her but it really doesnt matter #okay. i think that's all.
