I know the one you’re referring to! This should be it, it’s from a vendor in the Grand Bazaar:

I didn’t mention this in the essay because of it being speculatory, but I’m more than ready to speculate here. I agree, this is most likely an inference to Alhaitham, not only considering his status as a Mahamata but also due to the fact that it’s an integral part of Alhaitham’s character that he prefers to be unknown. Even when he serves as the Acting Grand Sage, people don’t typically recognise him due to how little known he is despite his primary role as the Grand Scribe, as seen in his story quest. This would align with why the vendor admittedly has no idea who this particular customer was.

Drinking, particularly wine, can also relate to both Kaveh and Alhaitham, as this is an activity they both partake in together. Alhaitham’s voice-lines express that he likes to have a drink after work, along with his demo showing him drinking wine with Kaveh, Cyno and Tighnari, and him apparently stealing Kaveh’s beer in A Parade of Providence. Similarly, Kaveh also states his preference for drinking in his voice-lines, as well as his overindulgence in this hobby being highlighted in his hangout. Additionally, the furniture item ‘Monthly Frustration Be-Gone’ references Kaveh buying expired wine in order to get a discount.

Since this is an NPC conversation, it’s also worth noting other external worldbuilding details, such as the bulletin boards of Sumeru. In the three exchanges Alhaitham and Kaveh have, all of them reference drinking in some way, in that Alhaitham typically indulges Kaveh by paying for his tabs – revoking this only when they have a disagreement. Lambad also notes that Alhaitham and Kaveh go drinking together, as well as Kaveh picking up wine ordered by Alhaitham.

Alhaitham buying wine for Kaveh to make up for some disagreement between the two aligns with all these established details. When considering the typical exchange of Alhaitham refusing to pay for Kaveh’s drinks when Kaveh disagrees with Alhaitham’s views, it makes sense that it would also work in reverse – as in, when Alhaitham trespasses on Kaveh’s views which leads to Kaveh’s upset, Alhaitham would buy him drinks to make up for it

Alongside this, character description wise, there is no other convincing contender as to who else this could be? Alhaitham uses the tall male model, and is the only tall, relevant member of the Mahamata that the player is aware of.

Given all these context clues the game gives us, I’d say, yeah, this is our resident loser Alhaitham!!

I disagree with you about some things you said about daredevil and we don't need karen she died in the comics anyway. But yeah I like foggy but we are still hare for matt murdock aka daredevil.

That's totally fair. I know Karen is a divisive character and they may be trying to avoid that drama again. But from a narrative perspective, at the very least, they need to show her dying. Even in a flashback. She was pretty important in the Netflix story and her death would have some ripples that need to be seen.

But I can get over Karen. Foggy, on the other hand...

As someone who hasn't read many Daredevil comics, I can't do an analysis that would do their relationship the sort of justice that it deserves. Because it's so old and complex. Despite all the bullshit the two have been through - including the deaths of Karen and Elektra, and most times Matt turned evil or killed someone - Foggy never left. At the absolute most, he put some distance between them, but he never cut off the friendship. Not once.

Foggy is Matt's MJ. He's his Jiminy Cricket. He's his heart and he's the reason why Matt is still a hero rather than a more morally ambiguous figure. Without Foggy Nelson, Daredevil would be more similar to the Punisher.

This is evident in the Netflix show too. Foggy abandoned a cushy law job to help Matt stick to his morals. He ran to Matt's side after he got his ass beat by the Punisher. Despite not wanting to, he covered up Matt's vigilantism for Karen. He went along with all of Matt's pro bono work, giving it his all despite Matt's fuck ups.

This is most evident in the episode Nelson v. Murdock. It's the only time in the series that the audience sees Matt break down. Not just cry; he's absolutely sobbing, ugly cry face and everything. And it's not because of the fight he lost or Fisk or any of his injuries. No, it's because is best friend is mad at him. Foggy is furious that Matt has been hiding his powers and his vigilantism for so long, rightfully so. And he's crying too. Their hearts are breaking because it feels like they're both losing their best friend.

Foggy is absolutely vital to Matt's story. Being here for Daredevil means being here for Foggy.

I’m gonna rant this here cus this argument keeps returning on the clock app and one day, I’m gonna be stupid and leave a comment in the wrong thread or smthn so I’m just gonna get it out of my system:

Answer for idiots: you can’t.

You cannot possibly make a definition for the term ‘woman’ without excluding someone from the group when they clearly ARE part of the group (even if you’re a piece of shit transphobe and don’t want to include trans women). A woman is someone who has the potential to give birth? You just excluded every child before puberty, every infertile woman and every woman on menopause, next. A woman is someone who has a uterus? You just excluded a bunch of intersex women and all women who had a hysterectomy, next. A woman has a period? Excluded the millions of women who never get their period for various reasons AND all the women who take continuous birth control AND women who are pregnant AND again, little girls and women on menopause. A woman has to have XY chromosomes? Are you gonna check that for every feminine-looking person you’re gonna meet? How? Do you not think women with down syndrome are women?

Decades of feminism working so hard to make sure women are more than their genitals and potential to give birth, all flushed down the drain because you refuse to believe trans women are more than men in wigs? You’re weak as shit.

So answer for people who actually want to use their brain:

Woman is defined through experiences. Which experiences? Entirely up to whoever defines themselves as a woman.

The ‘female experience’ is so broad. You cannot possibly define it in one sentence and stick it on everyone who calls the word ‘woman’ their own.

You feel feminine and empowered by doing your nails? Congrats, that’s the female experience and makes you, therefore, a woman.

Gender is such a deeply personal experience, it’s just dumb to define it for someone else, let alone the entire human species. ohhh man oh man oh man. Okay beauty and the beast timeloop is my BREAD AND BUTTER i have thought so hard abt this au and im insane about it. Essential premise is that Scar finds himself on a deer trail in the woods bordering his village, with no knowledge of how he's gotten there and only vague memories as to why (something about... finding something. whenever he thinks about it for too long, his head starts to hurt). But even as he tells himself he should turn back, he can't stop walking forward. Almost as if someone is pulling him along on a string :) eventually, what he finds is a very old estate, half-crumbling and in ruins, and inside it he finds a monster made up of wings and eyes and draped cloth. And the interesting thing is that this monster, after snarling and spitting vitriol and taking Scar hostage, changes his behavior on a dime-- suddenly he sinks in on himself, tired and small, and leads Scar to a place where he can be as comfortable as possible considering the circumstances, then immediately flees.

Or, to be more transparent: Grian is a Watcher, and he's being punished by a mutating curse-- he cannot leave the area he was cast into, he cannot change out of his true form, and at multiple times in the "narrative" his fellow Watchers have made, he must reenact his actions from the second loop against his will. I'm gonna leave it there for anyone else to ask more about it, but thats the general premise >:]

just had my first (in person) dnd session and it was soooooo awesome!!! shout out to my best boy Yonathan, a cleric turned mage turned BACK to cleric, who got cast out of his faith for breaking a vow of celibacy but then got his groove back when he turned down a "u up?" call from a different god while looting said god's corpse.

my first session was so cool, but i gotta say, watching other people on actual play roll a nat1/roll low is gut-wrecking, but watching it happen IN REAL TIME, ON YOUR PARTY????????? worse. SO much worse. 3 out of 6 people in our party died (the cleric got its head smashed in by a stone guard, one sacrificed himself heroically to grab the mcguffin the party was after, and one died a ridiculous death there was a lake full of snakes, dm said the snakes were venomous, player went 'yeah but not all of them right?' even though we kept saying YES ALL OF THEM and then he stuck his foot in the lake and immediately got bitten and died.). Yonathan, the dwarf and the elf managed to get away, though. lived to fight another day

this chapter was interesting to write bc my number One rule with writing rainduo is that they have to feel comfortable with each other. like they don't always talk about everything on their minds with each other (wilbur certainly doesn't) but conversation flows easily between them in a way that it often doesn't with others. so it was interesting to write that as they've Just Met. the slip between pleasantries and actual conversation kind of happens without either of them noticing, until niki comes back out later in the evening and they just decide to. keep talking

i don't know about interesting per se but niki's general dissatisfaction with her job, where she lives, etc is very propelled by how she lacks a feeling of community and camaraderie with people in this place, given that searching for and desperately needing community is very much her Thing in canon imo. while niki is probably not gonna get any awards for bartending anytime soon she's pretty stubborn and would probably be fine if she felt even 0.1% supported in that environment or had maybe two friends. taking a stack and dropping a glass would be a Non-Issue if she wasn't feeling struck by the I Am So Lonely No One Cares About Me No One Here Cares About Anyone Else type feeling, letting herself spiral over something that really doesn't matter, because she doesn't feel she has anything that does matter in her life to fill the space. it makes her bitter and quicker to judge people and tbh kind of makes her Worse. unfortunately she is currently sitting at zero friends. she's in that stage of just-moved-out young adult (adjusted for minecraft somewhat fantasy setting) where she's still trying to figure out how to build those kinds of connections properly. also maybe proper staffing at work would be nice too. so when she and wilbur kind of just click it's like Okay this is my new best friend

something about that Rainduo Are On The Same Wavelength thing is also there when she and wilbur are talking about where they're from - niki definitely knows there's kind of more to what wilbur's saying about smp earth than he's letting on, especially given that he obviously has a rich coat and a nice guitar, but she instinctively lets that slide when wilbur even slightly implies that he's not really willing to Go There in this conversation. that is a piece of knowledge she's not ever gonna voice but it is tucked away for later

also the bit on wilbur's music. he's very much a showboater even if he hasn't gotten into politics at this point so it's one thing for people to talk to him then, but niki chooses to go on over and talk to him about music instead (even when he has kind of been a bit of a dog this evening). that's what he's sensitive abouttt. they have the loud conversation in the bar and the quiet conversation outside. she asks for her stolen shit back thanks but sits and stays to listen. and so on

oh i don't know if it's blatantly obvious or not but wilbur 100% gave schlatt the shitty cocktail and took the wine for himself. best friend no 1 👆👆👆👆

finally there's kind of an early vibe of sweaterduo where the two of them work together obvi and are best friends but there's still a bit of a distance between them. they trust each other 100% in a practical sense but when one of them needs help they are far too proud to accept that help from the other. so instead wilbur sits around the corner and plucks out some notes on his guitar (not saying he's immune from this btw he 100% does the same thing). i'm sure this won't cause problems later. i'm sure niki won't cause problems with this later

i don't know how much of this is actually interesting versus what is just rambling but yeah. much fun to be had

A recent TikTok trend made me fall back into my ages old hyperfixation of Joan of Arc, which then made me start thinking about how Catholic imagery kinda slaps, which made me think about how France is home to one of the best examples of Gothic architecture (which I had a brief hyperfixation on a few years ago), and now I've domino effected myself into not being able to stop thinking about the 1996 Disney animated adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, to the point where I'm considering reading the original novel by Victor Hugo. I'm considering reading. A Victor Hugo book. Help.

They were!!! friends!!

Bernardino Lonati was from Pavia, and Ascanio spent a lot of time in Pavia in the earlier parts of his life and was also the apostolic administrator of Pavia, so it's very likely they knew each other as teenagers (Ascanio refers to Bernardino as his "cardinal from home")

and they were only a couple of years apart in age (Lonati was born in 1452, Ascanio was 1455)

Lonati was one of the cardinals that Ascanio had "made," (Sanseverino is another). Before that, though, he was Ascanio's secretary!

in 1497, Ascanio fell seriously ill, like a lot of Rome thought he had died despite being alive because of how bad his condition was. Lonati was someone Ludovico Sforza got in contact with to try to navigate the situation, and Lonati and Sanseverino were part of a group that banded together to prevent Rodrigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI) from seizing Ascanio's assets in the event of his death.

Every time Ascanio would go against the Vatican for one reason or another/in conflict with the pope (the reason is that Ascanio's loyalty went to Milan first and always), Lonati was one of the cardinals that always sided with him :)

So when Lonati fell ill and it was clear things weren't going to get better

Ascanio rushed to be with him in his final hours and was so grief stricken over it that he had to be physically pulled away from Lonati's bedside because they were concerned that Ascanio would become ill as well (this was later in 1497). After Lonati died, Ascanio took care of the finances: Lonati wanted to pass the beneficiaries on to family members, but could not do this without Ascanio signing off on it since Ascanio was the apostolic administrator of Pavia.

Asanio did him one better: He wrote to his brother, knowing that he could ensure Lonati's last wishes, and had the income from S. Savino and a third of the income from S. Antonio go to the son, and the minor benefits go to the nephew, and the remaining 2/3rds of the income Ascanio had donated to charitable works in honor of Lonati's soul.

and he was in charge of the funeral arrangements and monument :')

Lonati was buried in Santa Maria del Popolo, a church associated with Ascanio, and later Giuliano della Rovere (Pope Julius II) would have a tomb commissioned for Ascanio there too, which I feel so so so normal about.

Also, Lonati was considered a "poor cardinal" while he was alive, Ascanio was the driving force behind getting Lonati additional incomes.

and for some Ascanio trivia: he was gambled (literally) with Rodrigo Borgia on occasion, and was apparently an amateur musician on top of the Everything Else He Did 🎵

Fucking wild day at work today like what the fuck

#like it wasn’t all that wild until literally the last two minutes of my shift when I walked outside looking for one of the shift managers #because my GM was on a conference call and the other two shift managers that were there plus another one who had just like stopped by were #all nowhere to be seen #any fucking way….. I walked outside because I knew that the one that stopped by was out there talking to the one that opened this morning #and I walk out there like who is in charge right now and they were like idk and then I started to be like oh well I just needed some #questions answered about stuff before I leave (which I ended up saying fuck it and not asking or saying anything about those things) #but then!!!! (also keep in mind these two shift managers are my closest work friends and the one has been working with me since day 1 over 4 #years ago and the other has been around for the past like 2.5 years probably?? but like we worked together every day pretty much) #anyway I say that about having questions and start to tell them and they’re like well it doesn’t matter #or it didn’t matter to the one or something like that BECAUSE SHE IUST GOT FUCKING FIRED #AND I SWESR TO GOd I WAS LIKE DID I HUST MISHEAR THAT WHAT THE FUCJ DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST GOT FIRED #FOR WHAT?!? what could she possibly have done? #and it’s some big long bullshit and I just can’t believe it #so I stood out there for another few minutes on the clock not paying any attention to wtf is going on in the store because literally what #the hell but eventually I was like I’m just gonna walk in and clock out #but we still didn’t know who was in charge and then like 3 of us were leaving but no one new had come in yet so I just had to interrupt the #GM on his call (with our district manager sitting beside him) to be like can I leave? and then I just clocked out and went and stood outside #for like 45 minutes with my friends talking about the absolutely bullshittiness of the entire situation #like I can’t believe it #and I’m sure that she can’t believe it either #it was literally out of nowhere #our GM didn’t even know about it until after she’d been fired like it came from higher up in corporate and I just…. I hate this for her #but at the same time and she said this too that she was comfortable here (same) and if she wasn’t fired she probably wouldn’t have quit for #a long long time and like… same here #but if the other shift manager that I’m friends with quits she better tell me first and we’ll put our two weeks in together #I’m not fucking staying when everyone I like working with is Gina #because days they’re not there o fucking hate it #we went from having a good core group of people every day to it just being the three of us and now it’s just the two of us #plus like another 3/4 people that I usually love working with #though one of them irritates me a lot too but she’s been there since the start for me too (and she’s also on the brink of quitting)
