Badger
Hi. So this is a little thought I've had in my head for a while based on the fact that none of the English commentators can pronounce Ona's name properly.
Ona Batlle x reader
Description: You're convinced Ona doesn't like your nickname for her
Word Count: 4.2k
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had been a gruelling game, the ball rolling end to end creating little respite for any player. Goals were flying in left and right from both sides. It was a draw in the final minute of overtime and both teams were desperate not to share points. A spectacular tackle from Ona had prevented Hemp from scoring, allowing the ball to be collected and fed all the way back up the pitch. It had ricocheted around the City box before falling to your feet. It was instinctual, not thought or planning behind it, yet as the ball sailed pasted Roebuck’s fingers – it was like it was destiny. It was by no means your first goal for United, nor your first goal of the game. But it felt like it. The crowd erupted, the music drowned out by the noise and the rush of blood in your head.
The Blues had no time to score an equaliser. You watched as the seconds ticked down – City trying to press again, although the fight had clearly been lost in them. Finally, finally, the Ref blew the whistle. Old Trafford erupted. It had been an exciting game for the fans – lots of goals, tough tackles, harsh words, decent referring. As a player it had been exhausting but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Ona was the first one to you, somehow making the distance in record time despite being further down the pitch.
“Mi hermosa superestrella!” She shouted as she threw herself onto your back. You stumbled slightly, your legs feeling like jelly as the adrenaline disappeared from your veins. “Mi maravillosa, hermosa, fantástica, increíble, magnífica, bella goleadora.” She littered each word with an array of kisses to your head, her arms wrapping around your neck as she made herself comfortable – clearly showing you she wasn’t getting down any time soon.
“Stop,” you whined, getting shy under her compliments.
“Nope, never.” She laughed again, squeezing her legs tighter around your waist in a hug. You discretely pinched the underneath of her thigh, close to the hem of her shorts. “Aye,” she squealed. “Can’t a girl compliment her amor de su vida after she had an incredible game?” She pressed a sneaky kiss to your jaw as you made your way towards the fans.
You knew the fans would be going crazy over your behaviour; you had never made your relationship a secret. Ona often featured in your monthly photo dumps, your Instagram stories showing carefully selected insights into your life. Her Instagram was the same, filled with private moments that neither of you minded sharing with fans. Videos of you after matches were all over the internet – hugs that lasted too long to be just friendly, kisses pressed into sweaty hairlines and shiny foreheads, your body being wrapped around her smaller frame as the final whistle went, neither of you leaving each other sides until you were sure they were fine after a tackle gone wrong.
You were walking you way around the stadium, laughing along to Mary and Tooney’s jokes as you fell into step with them. It was as you were passing Alex and Fara that you heard your name be called out. Instinctively, you turned – naturally bringing Ona with you as she was still securely wrapped around you. Alex was beckoning you over – a microphone outstretched and an expectant smile. You tilted your head back to look at Ona, expecting her to have loosened her legs by now. Yet her grip held firm, nodding in the direction of the TV cameras. You shrugged, readjusted her on your hips and came to join the women.
“And here we have Y/F/N Y/S/N and Ona Badger,” Alex said, laughing at the way you stood. Had she really just said that?
“Hi, sorry about this one,” you gestured with your head. “She always says her legs don’t work after matches.” You teased, the three of you laughing at Ona’s indignant squawk, yet she made no move to get down. Fara offered you a microphone, watching on as you looked around a little – struggling to figure out how you were going to do the interview with Ona on your back. Ona solved that solution easily enough, taking the mic and holding it where you need it. You squeezed her calf appreciatively.
“What a match, hey? How are you feeling?”
“Yeh, it’s insane. Derby’s are always hard, and we knew it was going be a fight today, but that was something else.” You chuckled, blowing a stray piece of hair from your face – thanking Ona absentmindedly as she delicately moved it away for you. “We all knew we had jobs to do out there and we just went ahead and did it. Not much more I can say really. I have absolute faith in these girls, and I think it showed today.” You hoped it was a reasonable response. You weren’t the biggest fan of the media side of football. Pre-recorded videos and challenges you could do no issue, but the live stuff - you hated it.
“And what about you, Ona? You were up and down that pitch today like a Yo-Yo.” Fara asked. You moved your head to the side, allowing Ona the space to talk.
“Sí. Again, I just did my job. It was this one that was putting them into the back of the net.” You blushed ferociously, thanking the lucky stars that you were already quite red from the match.
You continued the interview as quickly as possible – conscious that this was being streamed live to the BBC. You skin becoming redder with every passing compliment Ona threw you way. Of course, you gave them back just as often, but she wasn’t as embarrassed by stuff like that. Eventually, the interview came to a natural end.
“Thank you so much, girls, I’ll let you get back. Ladies and Gentlemen, Y/F/N Y/S/N and Ona Badger,” you heard Alex say as you turned away. You heard Ona groan in your ear as you carried on walking.
“Come on then, Señorita Badger.” You couldn’t contain your cackle as you helped her down to sit in your cubby.
“Detener,” she whined – her arms coming to cross over her chest. “They can never say it properly. It’s so annoying.” She moaned, burying her face in your clothed stomach as you moved to untie her braid.
“My love, they are atrocious at pronouncing non-English names, you know this.” You soothed her, allowing your fingers to card through her now-loose hair. “It doesn’t make it right, but it’s not personal.”
“It’s every game though. Every interview and time someone says my name its always ‘Battle’ or ‘Badger’. I can’t decide which is worse.” She complained, moving away from your body to look at you, pouting. You matched her pout; one had coming to cup her jaw and the other to lightly trace over the crease in between her eyebrow.
“I’m sorry, my lovely. I don’t know what to say,” you admitted. “But if it makes you feel any better, they’re always saying good things.” You tried a weak smile. “You’re our best defender.” You said honestly, pressing a kiss to her forehead. This time, she really did blush.
“Deja de mentir,” she sighed.
“I’m not lying. You are an incredibly, wonderfully, amazingly talented defender.” You laughed as her cheeks darkened yet again. “And all mine.” You finished off, placing a gentle kiss to her soft lips. “I love you.” You basked in the silence between you to a little longer before adding, “my little Badger.” Her eyes snapped open, scoffing as her mouth dropping open as you laughed loudly, scurrying away to the showers before she could retaliate.
You had been calling her Badger for so long now, that you had never considered what it might look like to others, or to her. After that day in the locker room, it had slowly become more and more integrated into your daily vocabulary. It started as a nickname you used to tease her, loving how riled up she became. But then you started using it in training, shouting it out when she did something particularly impressive. Eventually, it became like any other loving nickname. You were her mi amor, and she was your Badger.
It was something you hadn’t considered when you both made the move over to Spain. It was so normal at this point. Surely, she would have said something if she didn’t like the name? You used it all the time. You wanted her to pass you the salt and pepper? You felt sad and needed a hug? She was injured and needed comfort? You were pressed up against her in the Club dancing the night away? She had done something great in training? She was irritating the crap out of you? You were annoying her and being an all-round brat? She was always Badger.
It had never crossed you mind until Alexia brought it up after training one day.
You were walking out to the car, Ona tugging on your hand to hurry you up.
“Vamos, mi amor. Apresúrate,” she pulled you harder, taking your hand in both of hers.
“Badger, you go ahead.” You laughed as she pouted. “You’re the one going on a ‘La Masia day’. In case you’ve forgotten, I wasn’t raised here.” You teased, using your strength to pulled her back to your side. “I was told in no uncertain terms by Aita that this was a Catalan only event And that she loved me, but I needed to get lost for the afternoon. You need time with your people, and I am totally ok with that, Badger.” You smiled softly at her, melting as her arms wove around your waist.
“Ona, deixa d'estar tan enamorat i afanya't.” Aitana’s loud voice drifted from across the car park.
“A la merda, Aita. Que no tinguis núvia no vol dir que hagis de ser dolent.” Ona responded. You had no idea what she was saying but even with your limited Catalan, you recognised ‘núvia’ and guessed it was something to do with you.
“Go on, Badger. Go enjoy yourself, I’ll see you at home.” You cupped her cheek with your hand, giving her a gentle goodbye kiss. She squeezed you once more before running off after Aitana– shoving her as she climbed into the backseat.
“Do you want to come for a quick coffee with us?” A voice next to you made you jump.
“Fucking hell.” You turned to see Alexia, Mapi and Ingrid standing behind you. “Jesus, warn a girl next time.” You placed a hand over your heart and took calming breaths, glaring at Mapi as she chuckled at your reaction.
“We said your name like 10 times, chica.” Alexia smiled, taking your arm, and pulling you towards her car.
“Sorry, I was just … sorry.” You stared at the pavement, a bright blush rushing to your cheeks.
“Ella está enamorada” Mapi cheered, coming up to pinch your cheeks.
“You two are way worse,” you said, gesturing between Ingrid and Mapi. “Oh, mi vida, jugaste muy bien hoy.” You dramatically threw yourself at Ingrid, laughing with her at Mapi’s incensed expression.
“No sueno asi”
“Yes, you do.” You said at the same time as Ingrid. Mapi’s shocked face made you laugh even harder as Alexia unlocked the car.
“Maps, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you call her Ingrid. Even when you aren’t talking to her it’s always ‘mi vida’ or ‘mi princessa’ or ‘mi Tesoro’. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you call her Ingrid. It can be quite nauseating.” You goaded her as you took your seat in the passenger side. She gasped, jokingly offended.
“Al menos no llamo a mi novia por un animalito raro.” She clicked her teeth at you.
You eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Animal? You didn’t call Ona an animal, did you? Sometimes you joked she was a koala after the matches as she clambered her way into a customary piggyback – you often made teasing remarks that you didn’t need to see one during your time in Australia because you had one at home with you. But nothing repeatedly.
“Yeh, where did Badger come from?” Alexia asked. Ohhhhh. It clicked for you - sometimes, you could be quite oblivious.
“It’s not after the animal. English commentators and interviewers can never say her name. You must’ve realised that.” The Spanish girls nodded solemnly – often being a victim themselves of mispronounced names. “Well, it started off as a joke really, Alex Scott called her Ona Badger once and it kinda went from there really.” You explained, your attention drifting to looking outside the window
“Ona’s a better woman than me.” Alexia shook her head slightly. You turned back around, looking at her side profile as she drove you towards the coffee shop.
“How-What do you mean?” You asked, confused as to what she was getting at.
“If Olga called me Patella instead of Putellas, I’d go crazy.” Alexia laughed.
“Oh. She doesn’t seem to mind it. I … don’t think?” Did she mind it? She had never said anything to you about it.
“I never said anything when Olga called me Lex for a while. But it really got on my nerves.” She added, making you feel even worse about the situation. Does she really feel like that? Do you irritate her? It must do. What you had thought was just a joke and then an eventual nickname was based on the fact that someone couldn’t pronounce her name right. That would annoy anyone, right?
The rest of the afternoon passed in a daze, the coffee trip and drive back to the training ground carpark was all a blur. Your drive home and daily routine done on autopilot as your actions and behaviours played on repeat in your head. Did Ona hate being called Badger? She must do, right? Not many people in England had struggled to pronounce your name, and you had yet to encounter someone in Spain that couldn’t do it. Your thoughts rattled in your head – leading you to the conclusion that yes, Ona must not like being called Badger. You vowed to stop making her uncomfortable.
“Hola, mi amor.” Ona called as she walked through the door. You could hear the tiredness in her voice.
“Hey, Badg-baby.” You cleared your throat, hoping to cover up your mistake. “Hey, baby.” You kicked yourself mentally for your slip up. With all your internal worry, you missed Ona’s eyebrows scrunching in confusion. You seemed ok in yourself, a little distracted maybe, but nothing noticeable. You were standing at the open fridge, trying to figure out what to make for dinner – so it must be that, Ona decided. You must be distracted by what to make. She came up behind you, wrapping her arms around you and kissing your shoulder. You melted against her, like you always did. This helped calm Ona’s worries a little, beyond not calling her Badger, you were acting normal.
“What do you fancy for tea?” You asked, looking back at her.
“No m'importa, el que sigui més fàcil per a tu,” she said in Catalan. Her voice muffled by the fabric of your jumper.
“What was that, Bad-babe?” You asked her gently, recognising how tired she must be. You twisted around in her grip, closing the fridge door behind you. She looked up at you, a look of displeasure on her face. You chalked it up to her being tired from her afternoon out with the girls; she was actually annoyed that you had, once again, not called her badger.
“El que sigui més fàcil.” She repeated, still speaking in Catalan.
“The only word I recognised was fàcil, so I’m going to assume that mean quick and easy?” She smiled, as you let a finger trace over her freckles on her cheeks, something you always did when she was tired.
“Podríem fer la comanda?” She was still speaking in Catalan. Her tiredness often led to you trying to decipher Catalan – a language you were still trying to get to grips with. But you understood where she was coming from. If you were tired and then forced to speak your third language in your own home, it would not go very well. You really wracked your brains, trying to work out what she was saying.
“I’m sorry, B-honey. What was that?” You asked her, scanning your eyes cross her face.
“Order.” She said grumpily. You sighed, misunderstanding her mood again.
“Ok, my love,” mentally cheering as you didn’t slip up this time. “Let’s go to the sofa and we’ll order something.” You unwound her arms from your waist and pulled them over your shoulders, lifting her up as her legs wrapped securely around your hips. “My koala,” you teased, pressing a kiss to her cheek before she buried her head in your neck.
You hoped that Ona’s uncharacteristic mood was purely down to her tiredness. But after a full night’s sleep where she had refused to leave your arms – something that usually made her sleep like a baby – she still had an attitude with you. She had been fine when you woke up, a soft, sleep-filled smile gracing her beautiful face.
“Bon dia, mi amor.” She had croaked out, a gentle hum coming from her as you scratched at her head.
“Good morning, bad-baby.” Fuck, you had done it again. She pulled back from her beloved location (her face pressed against your neck, you giving her gentle scratches to gradually wake her up). With sleep still in her eyes, her hair a mess and that adorable pout, you couldn’t help but smile – you had, yet again, misattributed her pout for tiredness rather than the anger, and slight hurt, that she felt when you failed to call her Badger. She tried to think back to yesterday. You had very willingly let her go out with the girls yesterday after training, so that couldn’t have been it. Training had gone really well – you always had worked brilliantly as a pair. You had mentioned that you went out to coffee with Alexia, Ingrid and Mapi, maybe something had happened then? But you would have said something though, right? You were the one that was more open and in-touch with your feelings. You always communicated well with everyone around you, especially Ona. Yet, you were refusing to call her Badger. That name had originally been a joke, but eventually it had come to mean so much to her – it was something so unique to your relationship. Other couples could call each other baby, or love, or honey, or babe, or any of the Spanish equivalents. But only she got to be your Badger.
You were still behaving normally which is what threw her off the most. You made her the perfect cup of coffee – like every morning – giving it to her with a kiss to the top of her head as she sat at the table, trying to wake herself up. You held your hand out to her as you walked into the training centre, allowing her warm hand to intertwine with yours. You insisted she tie your hair back, humming quietly as she raked her delicate fingers across your scalp. You made her a plate of all her favourite foods at lunch. You let her rest her body into yours as you sat down, your arm coming around her shoulder as you talked to Lucy and Keira. You drove home with you hand on her thigh and the music blasting loudly. Yet you still hadn’t called her Badger. It was adding considerably to her strange mood – she wasn’t quite angry, but she wasn’t her usual bubbly self … grumpy … that was the only way to describe Ona today. Even Alexia and Patri had picked up on it, asking you if Ona was alright. You tried your best to assure them, telling them that she just hadn’t slept very well (a total lie – it was you that had lied awake staring at the ceiling as Ona’s breath puffed steadily onto your collarbone).
She led you into your house, scowling at you as you tried to make your way into the kitchen.
“Sentarse,” she growled at you, pointing at the sofa. You did as you were told – still very confused as to her behaviour today.
You looked at her, deeply puzzled, as she climbed onto your lap, her legs straddling your thighs. Her behaviour was not what you expected of someone that was angry with you. You pulled out every stop you could think of to help her relax; one hand on her waist, dipping under her shirt to rub at the smooth skin; the other came to cup her jaw, you thumb running repetitive strokes across her cheekbones. It worked, for the most part. She leaned into your hand, her breathing was less harsh, the crinkle in her brow disappeared.
“Oni, my darling girl, mi corazón, mi hermosa, el amor de mi vida. What is up with you today?”
“What is up with me? What is up with you?” She almost shouted, incredulous at the accusation that she had done something wrong.
“You’ve had a scowl on your face the whole day.” You explained, a finger coming to flick at her protruding bottom lip as exhibit A.
“Because of you!” You threw her arms up in exacerbation.
“Me? What have I done?” You tried to think of what you could have done to annoy her. You had stopped calling her Badger, you had let her choose what to eat for tea last night – not even complaining when she chose the place with the not-as-nice-but-just-as-expensive-Sushi – you had done everything as normal today, going so far to drag her away for a steamy makeout session in the bathrooms before practice. Was that what she was upset over?
“No m'has trucat, Badger” she whispered so quietly you could barely hear her.
“Oni, I’m sorry, but I didn’t hear you.” You explained “What did you say?”
“You haven’t called me Badger all day. And last night. Did I do something? Have I annoyed you? You always call me Badger unless you’re angry at me. So ... What. Did. I. Do?” She exploded at you, a lone tear streaking down her cheeks. She rushed to wipe it away, but you got there first, kissing her cheek at the same time.
“No, mi vida. You did nothing wrong.” You looked down at her hands in her lap, fingers fiddling nervously together.
“Then what is it? Cos you haven’t called me Badger in over 24 hours now. Something is wrong.” She implored at you.
“I know you don’t like it, so I thought it would just be easier if you didn’t have to tell me and it be all awkward.” She waited a moment, hoping you would meet her eyes. When that was apparently not going to happen, she lifted your chin up with a finger.
“Who told you I don’t like being called Badger?” She asked sternly. Just like the rest of the day, you misunderstood her emotions – thinking she was angry at you for figuring out her secret.
“N-no one.” You croaked out, trying desperately not to cry.
“Mi amor, who told you I don’t like being called Badger?” She asked again, this time her voice a lot calmer.
“It was something that Alexia had said yesterday. She said that Olga called her Lex a few times and it really got on her nerves, but it took her a while for her to say something. And she also said that if someone called her Patella as a nickname, she’d go insane. And it just got me thinking that what if you don’t like being called Badger, ‘cos it’s a nickname based on someone saying your name wrong, but you didn’t want to say anything and I-” you were cut off by soft lips pressing against yours. You hummed throatily as Ona’s hands twisted into your hair, you grip on her waist tightening, pulling her closer to you.
“Don’t think ever again.” She said as you parted, her breath fanning across your face, drowning you in her scent. You must have looked confused, even with your eyes shut. “You said all of this was because you starting thinking. So, don’t ever think again.” You chuckled, pulling her back to you, your lips moulding together perfectly. “You are mi amor. And I am your Badger,” she mumbled between kisses.
“My Badger.” You agreed, shifting yourself underneath her.
“Recuérdame mañana que mate a Alexia por plantar esa estúpida idea en tu cabeza.” She grumbled as you pulled on top of you again.
“Whatever you say,” you started to suck a hicky into her neck. You pulled back slightly so you could see her face. “Badger.” Her kilowatt smile was all the confirmation you needed that Ona really did like being called Badger.
I hope you enjoyed it <3<3<3<3

pt. two: "it's born from just one single glance"
A week after the party, it was the first Friday in a while where the four of you didn’t go to a party. After spending a day out of the sea to test out Topper’s new boat, you got picked up some pizza and settled down in Rafe’s living room, where you were still in the same spot several hours later. The empty pizza cartons were stacked on the floor and the four of you strewn out on the couch and various seats.
“You want another drink?”
Rafe was waving his empty glass in front of you, a lonely ice cube clinking in it, an expected eyebrow raised.
You squinted at him, nodding. “Can you get me a coke please?”
“Sure.”
Kelce perked up in his seat at the prospect of another drink. “Hey, can you get me another beer?”
“No,” Rafe answered, without even looking back as he left for the kitchen. “You know where the fridge is.”
“What?” Kelce muttered with a frown, looking over to you as he slumped back down. “You know where the fridge is, why is he getting you a coke?”
You only shrugged with a grin, making yourself comfortable on the couch now that you had more space, while Topper clapped Kelce on the back in consolation.
“Come on man, you know she’s his favorite.”
“Hey!”
Grabbing a pillow from the couch, you shucked it at Topper, making him yelp when it hit him square in the face.
“Don’t talk about me like I’m not right next to you,” you scowled. “And I’m not Rafe’s favorite.”
“You’re a clown if you actually believe that.”
“Fuck you, you’re a clown.”
Topper tossed the pillow back at you, narrowly missing your head by an inch and the pillow fell to the floor behind the couch, landing just in front of Rafe’s feet as he returned.
“I was gone for five minutes, what are you guys fighting about now?”
“Precious over here thinks she’s not your favorite.”
You glowered at the other two boys, while Rafe settled back on the couch next to you, pressing a can of coke into your hands. He took a sip of his drink, eyeing you briefly and shrugged, pursing his lips in agreement.
“Nah, you’re definitely my favorite.”
You stuck your tongue out at Topper when he gave you a knowing look, instead focusing on opening your coke. “Whatever. It doesn’t mean anything, you two shitheads don’t make it hard for me to be anyone’s favorite.”
“The fuck is that supposed to mean?” Kelce grunted with a frown and you raised a brow at him.
“You literally had sex in Rafe’s bed last year,” you said, before turning your attention to Topper. “And you’re still obsessed with Sarah.”
Rafe let out a noise, making clear that he was fully agreeing with you. “What she said.”
Topper, while satisfied he had proven his point, still rolled his eyes and Kelce crossed his arms, annoyed.
“I hate it when they team up like this.”
“Shut up and get your beer.”
The next couple of hours passed easily, just as it always did when the four of you came together to talk shit. While you did enjoy going to parties every now and then, you really appreciated just hanging out with your friends and talking about everything and nothing in the safety of the four walls of Rafe’s home.
Only you and your boys. Just the way you liked it.
“Alright, I think it’s time for me to go,” Topper said, breaking up the group with a yawn, shaking his head to stay awake as he sat up. “I’m beat.”
“Can you give me a ride?” Kelce asked, standing up and Topper nodded, turning to you.
“Do you need me to drop you off too?”
You stretched your arms, legs long draped over Rafe’s lap as you laid lengthwise on the couch. It was nearing one am and you really should make your way home, but you were far too comfortable to move, having spent most of the day in the sun, which was catching up to you now.
“I think I might stay for a while longer, thanks though.”
Topper clicked his tongue, ruffling your hair, messing it up for good measure as he and Kelce said their good byes, their voices getting quieter as they strolled to the front, the door shutting in its hinges. It wasn’t long after until you could heard Topper’s truck start, and then pull off the estate grounds.
Finally, it was quiet enough for you to hear the music, which was drowned out by Kelce’s constant yapping. You loved him but he was such a chatter box when he drank beer.
“Isn’t Sarah coming home tonight?” you asked into the sudden quietness, combing through your hair with your fingers, trying to get rid of the knots that have formed since you’d laid on the couch for the whole night. The estate had been quiet apart from the four of you causing raucous in the living room.
“Please,” Rafe scoffed. “She’s staying with John B more nights than not, I’m this close to kicking her out for real.”
“Oh come on,” you laughed, leaning up to shove his arm a little. “She’s in love. Leave her alone. And don’t act like you don’t enjoy being the man of the house and having it all to yourself.”
Rafe grinned to himself, shrugging his shoulders a bit like you weren’t absolutely right. Like you said, you knew him. “Eh. Maybe. House tends to get a little quiet sometimes... Speaking of, why don’t you stay over tonight? It’s late, and I don’t want you walking home by yourself.”
“You’re not gonna drive me?” You asked with a pout and he rolled his eyes.
“I’m too tired, don’t make me. Just stay over.”
“What? And leave in the morning like I’m one of your hook ups? Please.”
“Give me a break,” Rafe huffed. “You know damn well you’re not one of my hook ups. They don’t get to stay till the morning,” he paused, turning his head to look at you inquisitively, and you knew that look all too well. He was about to be nosy. “What about yours, anyways?”
“My what?”
“Your hook ups, precious. Haven’t seen anyone around since Jack.”
You shrugged. “Cuz there wasn’t anyone else since Jack, you know that. And he wasn’t a hook up, he was my boyfriend.”
He was quiet, but you could basically hear the gears in his head turning. “I know you’re not into hook ups and shit, but don’t you need to get off sometimes?”
“And risk hooking up with weirdos like Moany? No thank you. I don’t need anyone else to get off.”
Rafe rolled his eyes. “I know, jesus. I’m just saying… Sex by yourself isn’t as good as sex with another person. If you know what they like. Not everyone has freaky requests like Monique. And if you’re compatible, you know the sex can be insane.”
You eyed him suspiciously, not sure if you liked which direction this was going. He wasn’t about to suggest the two of you having sex…. Right? Because that would be just crazy.
“… jus’ getting sick of having to get to know a new girl every time, ‘s exhausting.”
“You know you can have sex with a person more than once right?”
Rafe scoffed, leaning his hands behind his head. “Yeah, but then they start getting comfortable. I don’t need that right now.”
You waved your hands around, trying to stop Rafe’s train of thought before it could get any further.
“Rafe, stop beating around the bush. The fuck are you on right now?”
He swirled his drink around, downing the last of it before shoving the glass on the table, looking at you.
“What if… We fucked?”
“What?” you stared at him incredulously, like he had just grown a second head.
“I mean, not relationship wise. Casual. Friends with benefits.”
“Friends with benefits,” you echoed, dryly. “Are you insane?”
Rafe scoffed, shaking his head at you, not bothering with a reply. You thought that was the end of it, trying to calm your heart down, as it was nearly jumping out of your throat, when you felt Rafe’s hand splaying across your bare legs. His fingers brushed your inner thigh, making you tense and you glared up at him.
“Seriously Rafe?”
“Seriously Rafe?” Rafe mocked you, reaching out to tuck your hair behind your ear, the other hand starting to trace circles into the skin of your thigh, like it was the most normal thing for him to do. “We both know that if you didn’t want me touching you, you’d have kicked me half ways across the room already.”
You wanted to protest, but your words died halfway down your tongue, knowing it was no use with the way Rafe was looking at you. Also, he was a 100% right. Turning away, you stared at the ceiling, trying to ignore how his finger tips left your skin tingling, thinking of the most random things to calm yourself down.
There was no use of lying to yourself, a part of you wanted to say yes.
You knew Rafe didn’t do relationships, has never had a girlfriend in all the years you’d been friends. What if being friends with benefits was the closest thing you could be for Rafe? Not only his best friend, but a step further? What if this was all you could get with him?
“This is a bad idea.”
“Why?”
“You’re my best friend.”
“Exactly. You’re my best friend, I don’t have to tell you anything because you know exactly what I like and what I don’t.”
“Not when it comes to sex!”
“Okay okay, calm down, I was just making a suggestion.”
Rafe trailed off, dropping the topic, his fucking hand still on your thigh. He wasn’t looking at you, but you could tell that he was biting back a grin, and you hated to think that you were going to give in.
“We’re not telling anyone, you hear me? Not a single soul. Especially not Top and Kelce, they would never let us live this down.”
He turned his head, the corner of his mouth ticking up knowingly. He was your best friend after all, he knew what to say to convince you of his argument. “Those two knuckleheads don’t need to know everything we do,” Rafe said as he leaned in, but you stopped him halfway, your hand on his chest.
“If this affects our friendship in any way, or or…. If it gets awkward or someone… Just, we stop, okay? No lying to get your dick wet.”
“Have I ever lied to you, precious?”
“Uh, yes. Remember when you, Top and Kelce snuck into my gard- oomph.”
Your sentence was cut short when Rafe pressed his lips against you in a soft kiss, his hand cupping the back of the neck. He pulled away, his breath hot on your face. Your lips parted a bit, shock coursing through your veins. You had wondered how it would feel to kiss Rafe for so long, and you had to admit, that the real deal was so much better than anything you could’ve imagined.
“You talk too much,” he mumbled against your lips and you rolled your eyes, brought out of your haze. This was still Rafe. Your best friend.
“Shut up.”
Fisting his shirt, you pulled him closer to you, lips hot as they interlocked. He leaned forward, both of his knees bracketing your waist, one hand moving from the back of your neck to the front, so he could cup your face. Suddenly, you were surrounded by him and if you weren’t so distracted by Rafe’s tongue slipping into your mouth, you’d be freaking out right now. This felt like a fever dream; your hands moving automatically down his torso, sneaking under his shirt, nails grazing his chiseled abs and when Rafe let out a honest to god whimper, you knew you were done for.
There was no going on back.

could you write a fic ab ferran being super jealous, you guys aren’t together only friends but you seem to be getting super close to one of the other barca boys and he doesn’t like that. so when you’re at a party one time he gets a bit drunk and pulls you away from everyone to confess his feelings for you
jealousy, jealousy - ferran torres
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: ferran caught feelings for his childhood friend and gets jealous once he hears you might be seeing someone.
genre: fluff
a/n: thank you for the request anon💕
———
„dude you can’t just stare at her and do nothing about it.“ Gavi nudged Ferran‘s shoulder as they were walking onto the pitch before the game against Villareal. You sat at your usual spot, the one Ferran got for you, waving at the two boys with a smile once you saw them already looking at you.
Ferran had been a close friend of yours ever since your brother met him with fourteen during a tryout at the Valencian football academy. Sadly your brother didn’t make it into the team but Ferran never stopped coming over, even though his schedule was extremely busy.
You always had a different relationship with him than your brother, one that was much calmer and more gentle. Throughout the years, friends teased you two of becoming a couple eventually and you almost believed it, until Ferran moved to Manchester to pursue his dream. You couldn’t be more proud of him and even flew over to watch his games, but it just wasn’t the same anymore. So when you heard he‘d transfer to Barcelona, the city you moved to years ago, you were so happy to finally be spending more time with him. Then, you were told he had a girlfriend.
Sira, a gorgeous girl and Luis Enrique’s daughter. Your heart sunk once he‘d told you, not because of jealousy, but because you always thought he had feelings for you too. Seemed like you misinterpreted his words and actions when you were a teenager.
For a bit more than a year you gave him and Sira more space, not wanting her to think you were jealous and tried to distract yourself with other guys. You dated one here and there, but your mind never could stop thinking about the boy you knew since you were fourteen.
„I can’t. I think she’s seeing Moha from the Barça B team.“ Ferran explained to Gavi, his hand covering his mouth to avoid lip reading.
„I don’t know him too well but I‘ve never seen him with Y/n. Balde‘s throwing a party next weekend, then you‘ll see if you fucked up or not.“ Gavi snorted but gave his friend an encouraging tap onto his back.
Even though Ferran had been happy while he was together with Sira, his feelings for you came back once she had broken up with him over a year ago. He always had been attracted towards you, having a crush as a teenager which turned into real feelings over the years you were his friend. Sira made him forget those feelings when they were together, but once the relationship started to crumble, he knew you were made to be his. The thought of you seeing Moha made his gut wrench. Sure he was a great guy, but he couldn’t let you go for a second time.
Barça won the game 3:1 with Ferran even scoring a goal. He made his signature celebration, then pointed towards the stands where you sat at. After realizing the goal was dedicated towards you, a shy smile spread across your face.
„Great game Fer!“ You complemented him once you sat in his car and drove you home.
„Thank you, hermosa. Are you busy next Saturday? Balde‘s throwing a birthday party. He told me to bring a plus one.“ Ferran grinned, still on a high from the victory and having you in his passenger seat.
„Sure I‘d love to!“ You agreed with a smile.
Saturday rolled around quickly and throughout the day your thoughts wandered back to what Ferran would like you to wear. Eventually you decided on something comfortable and were just done with getting ready as you heard a car honk outside.
„You look pretty.“ He said as you sat down and gave him a kiss on his cheek.
———
Throughout the party you felt Ferran‘s eyes on you, leaving you all flustered when he made eye contact from across the room.
Your heart beat faster when you saw him smile or when you felt him put his arm around your shoulder. Ferran wasn’t much different. He wanted to impress you, to leave you wanting him as much as he wanted you. There was for sure jealousy behind it, silently wanting to show off how good you two got along.
All went great until Moha showed up. He immediately spotted you and you two immersed into light conversation, laughing together as he whispered something into your ear. Ferran didn’t think it was funny. After he saw you two so close, laughing, you touching his shoulder, he felt the jealousy build up in his system. Maybe it was also the alcohol he drank, but something about seeing you with Moha just wasn’t right. Especially not how the two of you seemed to be so close.
Gavi came up behind Ferran, immediately knowing what his friend was thinking.
„I swear Ferran if you don’t do something tonight and tell her, she‘ll leave with him.“ He threatened but Ferran knew he was right. He put his cup down after Gavi‘s words and walked up to you, interrupting the conversation you held with the Barça B player.
„Can I talk to you? It’s urgent.“ You sensed something was up. Usually he was talkative and smiled but now he looked distressed and upset, his gaze flickering between you and Moha. Moha awkwardly smiled after greeting Ferran and stepped a bit away to give you more space.
You nodded and gave your friend an appreciative smile, when Ferran took your hand and led you outside. Even though the atmosphere between you two was tense and irritating, your cheeks heated up once his hand grabbed yours.
He sat down on a bench, secluded from the other guests and motioned for you to sit down next to him.
„I can’t pretend anymore Y/n.“ Ferran said, his voice shaking once he turned his head to face you. You became nervous even though you didn’t know what he was saying.
„Pretend what?“ You softly spoke, trying to ease the unsettling tension around you two. Your hand wandered to the back of his neck like it often did before, and played with the short ends of his hair.
„pretend that I don’t love you.“ His word made you stop, his eyes never leaving yours once he said the words.
„I‘ve caught feelings for you when we were fifteen, going on vacation together with our families, sneaking out to the pool, telling each other the most embarrassing stories. I never had the courage to tell you because I was so scared. I was scared you‘d reject me and once I moved to England, I tried to forget you. When Sira broke up with me last year, I realized all I wanted is you. For you to be my girlfriend, not my best friend. It always had been you. Please tell me there’s nothing going on with Moha, and if yes, then I‘ll let you alone, but please think about this. About us.“ Ferran took your hands in his, silently hoping you’d say something, anything. The shocked expression on your face scared him even more, already wanting to apologize for his rambling, thinking he had officially messed things up. But you on the other hand could feel your heart beat out of your chest. The teenage love just confessed his feelings for you, but mixed Moha up for one of your potential lovers.
You couldn’t put your feelings into words, so you just grabbed Ferran by the back of his neck and crushed your lips lovingly against his. He was surprised at first, then immediately kissed you back, holding you by your waist and pulling you towards him. Forehead against forehead, you smiled sweetly at each other, both cheeks flushed from the kiss you just shared.
„I love you Ferran. And I don’t want to let you go too, I want to be with you.“ You whispered, feeling the butterflies in your stomach.
„So there’s nothing going on with Moha?“ He asked rather surprised. You did understand why he would think that, but you guessed it was time to tell him.
„I‘ve spend so much time with him lately because I babysit his little sister. His parents are out of town for a while and he knew I babysit besides university.“ You grinned, gladly clearing up the misunderstanding.
„He came to me tonight to tell me his sister had a crush on my brother. That’s why we laughed so much.“
Ferran‘s eyes went wide once he realized everything was a big misunderstanding, but was even more glad that you always waited for him too.
„Oh.“ Was the only answer he could muster to which you only shook your head.
„Stick to football, you’re still not the smartest.“ You joked but Ferran acted offended.
„Hey!“ He laughed, but was quick enough to lean back in again to kiss you passionately.
„But I was smart enough to make you mine, hermosa.“

god, how you hated the hunger games. you weren’t expecting to be back, but here you were.
when you had won the 73rd hunger games, you thought that was the end. you thought you could just return to your district, and forget all about the mortifying experience.
but you were wrong. so wrong. all of that work, all of the trauma? useless. all of your efforts just didn’t matter. your charm and cleverness played a huge role in helping you to win the games. you thought you were smart, but you werent. you were stupid to think the capitol would leave you alone.
they would never ever leave you alone. they couldn’t give you a fucking break. here they were, trying to kill you, again.
them being them, they tried to make it different this time. they decided to make everyone room with tributes from different districts.
you knew they wanted to cause stuff between everyone. but you weren’t gonna let them get what they want. you told yourself you were just gonna have to deal with whoever you got.
to your luck, you were paired up with the “golden boy.” finnick odair, in the flesh. hooray.
you thought it would suck. back in the hunger games once again, and rooming with this guy? it seemed like hell. that was until you started to get to know him better.
finnick was surprisingly sweet. really sweet. he was also funny. and you couldn’t deny it, he was really attractive. “what are you looking at?” you said, noticing how his gaze was directed towards your lips.
“nothing, your smile is just really pretty.” he replied. you felt your cheeks start to heat up. “what, cat got your tongue?” he taunted, a smirk forming on his face. “you wish. goodnight finnick.” you said, trying to hide the fact that you were flustered.
little did you know, you and him would form quite a complex relationship.
“you win.” he said, while you two were perched in front of a tree, the leaves rustling with every slight movement. both of your partners had died by now. it was just katniss, peeta, you, and him in a truce.
you brought your head up and looked at him. you two locked eyes before you opened your mouth to speak, “huh?” what was he talking about? “you win.” “i win what?”
“my heart.”
that’s all it took. that’s all it took for you to realize how much you really liked him. you can guess what happened after that. that’s right, you and finnick started dating during the games.
from that moment on, you two swore to never let anything happen to the other. you both cared about each other too much to let that happen.
so when you were all fighting for your fucking life in that stupid tunnel, you were just trying to get back to finnick. katniss was trying her hardest to get you out, but you weren’t leaving until you knew finnick was okay.
“y/n, you need to go now!” she yelled, holding you back, trying to help finnick herself. she prioritized everyone over herself, which was something you admired about her. but you needed to get him.
“FINNICK!” you screamed, your voice echoing throughout the tunnel as you finally escaped from her grasp. you ran toward the pile of mutts, plunging your knife into one. “you shouldn’t be here!” finnick yelled, his voice strained with worry.
you ignored his pleading, continuing to fight with all your strength. as you clashed with the horrid creatures in the dimly lit tunnel, you felt fear and adrenaline pump into you. you thought it was going okay, until you felt a tug at your ankle.
“Y/N!” is all you heard before you were pulled down into the water by a mutt. you tried to fight back, but it was no use. suddenly, you felt sharp teeth sink into your stomach.
it was a type of pain you hadn’t experienced in a long, long time. in a matter of seconds, finnick was at your side, fighting off the mutt which leaned on top of you. he was livid.
you clutched your side, breathing heavily as a mixture of water and blood dripped down your body. finnick quickly took you into his arms, and eyed your protruding wound. he then reached out his hands to cradle your face.
“you’re gonna be fine baby, i promise won’t let anything happen to you. jus- just stay awake.” he said, trying to keep his voice from trembling as he tried his best to hurry to the ladder where everyone else was, you still engulfed in his arms.
“i-i can’t. i don’t think m’ gonna make it.” you struggle to get out, tears starting to stream down your face. he wasn’t gonna let this happen. “hey, look at me.” he said, trying to reassure you that you were going to be alright.
“look at me, you’re okay.”
that was all you could remember. everything else was a blur after that. you can remember faint yelling, but you can’t quite decipher what was being said.
you woke up beside finnick. he had his arm wrapped around your body, and your faces were inches apart. your wound was all patched up, but it was still painful. hey, look on the bright side though. finnick had kept his promise. he made sure things got better.
you were okay.

Tumblr media
Warning: depression, suicidal thoughts and actions, anxiety. torcher, blood (If missed anything lmk)
Description: realizing that she was never enough for him and deciding the world might just be better without her in it
part 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Staring up at the ceiling I let out a long groan I swear it is way too early in the morning that no one else would be up at this time sliding the covers off I head over to the bathroom to clean myself up last night was the same thing like every other night just filled with nightmares, tossing and turning it felt like I was going to go through the same pain has I did all those years ago and the emotional pain from more recent things. I would think the pain would have at least eased but it feels like I'm drowning, and no one is there to pull me up before I take the final breath before darkness takes over.
After cleaning up I just threw on a change of comfortable clothes since after the night I had don't not have the energy to go to training today or to deal with everyone. Walking out of my room down the hall making my way to the kitchen. Peaking my head through the door just to make sure no one else was have an early breakfast letting out the breath I was holding I made my way to the counter and asking the house of wind for a cup and coffee and some chocolate chip blueberry pancakes watching has the food and drink appear in front of my eyes I smile I always thought the house was amazing "thank you" I told the house and reached and took a drink of the coffee and I bite of my pancake.
Half way through my plate of pancakes I seen a shadow glide across the floor I frozen in my place "go back to you owner" I whispered the shadow stopped the came towards me wrapping its self around my leg then it seemed like it was just staring at me then it took off to the hall I let out a sign and then I couldn't breathe cause in the corner eye I seen the one person I did not want to run into down here. Azriel stepped in the kitchen looking, watching me "y/n" some of his shadows left his side and made their way over to me wrapping themselves around my legs i took a bite of my pancake "Azriel..." I put the rest of the pancake back down on the plate not feeling so hungry anymore he watched my every move bouncing from my face to the shadows that are now on my legs making themselves comfortable. "You are up early?" another cup of coffee appeared on the counter and Azriel reached out and grabbed it he looked back up at me and took a drink I just glanced at him and nodded looking back down at the shadows.
Azriel gave a long sign "you still like those types of pancakes?" I looked up at him then at the plate then at him again "uh yes..." he gave one of his small smirks "I remember when you first had a pancake for the first time." I locked eyes with him "yeah well that was a long time ago... but I guess some things don't change." I looked away and jumped off the counter Azriel continued to watch my movements "You coming to training today?" he stepped half in front of me "no I think I'm going to set this one out, I had a long day yesterday" I paused "I just need some rest." he just gave a small nod I stepped to the side of him to end back to my room I was bout towards the door "y/n" Azriel softly said I stopped and half turned towards him "what happened?" he faced me completely searching my face for what I do not know I just looked at him through the corner of my eye "Everything has happened." i seen hurt or confused I do not know show across Azriel face then turned and left him standing there alone.
Five Times You Almost Said “I Love You” and The One Time You Did | Stina Blackstenius x Arsenal & SweWNT Reader
Summary: You think about the five times you almost told Stina you loved her and the one time you did
Warnings: a tad bit of angst here and there
WC: 2.5k
AN: stina blackstenius arsenal’s lord and savior 🙏 | Each flashback is divided by dates!
You sighed as you fell to your couch, exhausted from the training you endured for the past week. You closed your eyes as you rested your head against the back of the couch, needing a few minutes to relax before you joined some of your teammates for drinks. Your thoughts were instantly filled with different memories of Stina.
The two of you have been close friends since you started playing football at the youth level for Sweden. Ever since you met the blonde, you’d had a crush on her and over the years it's only grown stronger. As your mind raced with memories, you were brought back to all the times you almost told Stina you loved her.
– July 3rd, 2019 –
You sighed sadly as you dropped to the bench after the final whistle blew. The Netherlands had beaten Sweden to keep you out of the World Cup's final and forced you to play for third place. You held back tears as you closed your eyes, leaning forward to rest your head in your hands.
“Y/n/n,” Stina’s familiar voice brought you back to reality, the blonde took a seat next to you as her hand came to rest on your back.
You lifted your head to meet her eyes, your eyes welling with tears once again as you met hers. Stina was quick to bring you into a tight hug, her head resting in the crook of your neck as she held you. She could feel your tears through her jersey but she didn’t mind, she was more focused on comforting you.
You two stayed in your embrace for a few moments before you sniffled and pulled away from her to wipe your eyes. You mumbled a quiet ‘sorry’ for the tears on her shirt but Stina shook her head in a way to tell you not to worry about it.
The two of you sat in silence amidst the loud cheering of the Dutch fans who were still in the stadium. Your eyes landed on Stina’s side profile as she stared out at the pitch, your eyes scanning her face as you stared at her. You’d had a crush on her for a while and while this probably wasn't the best time to tell her, your emotions were all over the place. Just as you opened your mouth to speak, you were interrupted by a staff member telling you two to come to the locker room.
You sighed softly as you both stood from the bench, Stina’s hand reaching out to hold yours tightly as you made your way back to the locker room. You tried not to think too much about the blonde’s actions, thinking it was just her way of comforting you after the loss.
– August 6th, 2021 –
You paced outside Sweden’s locker room after the penalty shootout with Canada that gave them the gold medal. You bit your lip as you paced in an attempt to not cry about the loss. You weren’t paying attention to your surroundings so you missed Stina joining you in the hallway until you turned around.
You stopped in your tracks as your eyes met the blonde’s, swallowing lightly as your emotions got the better of you. Before you could process anything, her arms were wrapped around your shoulders, pulling you into a tight hug. You wrapped your arms around her waist, holding her tightly as you let yourself cry into her shoulder.
After a few moments, you sniffled as you pulled back slightly, your arms hanging around her waist loosely. Stina moved her hands to cup your cheeks, her thumbs whipping away the tears that were falling down your face.
“I’m tired of getting far and then losing these tournaments,” you muttered, more tears still threatening to fall.
“We all are, älskling,” the blonde smiled softly as her thumbs came to a stop on your cheeks.
You bit your lip as your eyes stared into hers, your feelings daring to be said as you two held each other. You felt the same as you did two years ago after the loss to the Netherlands, your emotions strong as you debated telling Stina how you felt.
“Stina,” you started, your breathing heavy as you were about to tell her you were in love with her.
Before you could continue, Magda poked her head around the locker room door, asking the both of you to come inside. She didn’t comment on the position the two of you were in before retreating into the room. You and Stina dropped your hands and took a step back, though you never broke eye contact with one another.
Stina moved toward the door first, holding it open for you to enter first. You smiled softly as you entered, the blonde quickly following you. Maybe you weren’t meant to tell her how you felt.
– December 2021 –
After the Olympics loss, you and Stina decided to take a small trip to regroup before you both were set to join Arsenal in the new year. You two sat outside of the house you were renting, which was away from the hustle and bustle of the major cities. You both enjoyed the quiet it offered the two of you.
The sun was starting to set and the both of you were enjoying the comfortable silence between the two of you. However, your mind was loud as you debated using this opportunity to tell your friend how you felt about her. You drummed your fingers on your leg as you went back and forth in your head, before deciding on now being your chance.
Before you could speak, Stina beat you to it. “Do you ever wish you decided not to play football,” she spoke quietly, eyes still locked on the snow-covered trees in front of her. You furrowed your eyebrows at her question, unsure of where she was coming from.
“I wouldn’t change anything,” you replied, your voice just as low as hers.
“It would have saved us all this heartbreak from losing,” she offered, her jaw clenching as she turned to look at you.
“But I wouldn’t have met you,” you rushed out before realizing what you were saying. “Or, any of the other girls,” you quickly added.
Stina smiled, a light tint of blush coating her cheeks. She turned her back to the trees and you were worried you might have given yourself away. You refused to say any more, worried she might not want to hear what you have to say right now.
– January 19th, 2022 –
You leaned against your car as you waited for Stina to join you. Your debuts for Arsenal didn’t end the way you would have liked but you were still grateful for the opportunity. You pushed off your car when Stina exited the building, a small frown on her face as she walked in your direction.
You pulled her into a tight hug before whispering you were proud of her into her ear. Stina’s arms tightened around you at your words, her whispering back she was proud of you too. She was grateful to have you at Arsenal with her, it made the change easier having someone she knew by her side.
Stina pulled away from you slightly, her eyes locking with yours while you stood in the quiet parking lot. Most of your teammates had already left, though a few remained inside as they took showers. Your eyes scanned her face before they glanced at her lips and you cleared your throat to clear your head. Your mind was instantly filled with thoughts of kissing her right then and there.
The overwhelming love you felt for the blonde was begging to tip over but before you could say anything, a few of your teammates came outside. You and Stina quickly pulled away before they could catch you so close, you didn’t need them to get any ideas before you could tell Stina yourself how you felt.
“You two want to go with us to get some drinks,” Katie’s loud voice filled the quiet parking lot, a light push from Leah making her groan.
“We’re good, thank you though,” Stina answered for you, knowing you weren’t one to go get drunk after a game. You nodded at her words, smiling at your teammates before opening your car door.
“Boooo,” Katie teased as Stina rounded the car to get in. You both chuckled at Katie’s response before telling them goodnight.
Tonight was not going to be the night you told the blonde how you felt even though it was starting to become too much.
– July 21st, 2023 –
You hummed to yourself as you scrolled through social media as you waited outside Stina’s hotel room. The two of you had a tradition of taking walks together during tournaments to help clear your head and prepare for any upcoming games. You pocketed your phone when the blonde’s door opened and she joined you in the hallway.
You smiled at her as you pushed off the wall before the two of you headed to the elevator. You two made small talk as you walked, your hands brushing each other’s as you did so. Your skin felt hot each time you touched her and you had to move away from her to put some space in between you.
Stina pretended not to notice as you two exited the hotel lobby, making your way down the street in Wellington. The hotel you were staying at was close to a beach and that’s where you were headed. You left right as the sun was starting to set so by the time you got to the ocean, the sun was setting over it.
The two of you sat in the sand, you were tracing random designs in the sand while Stina stared out at the water. “Do you think we’ll win this one,” she mumbled, you could hear the doubt in her voice as she spoke.
“I think so,” you respond, mustering enough confidence for the both of you. You didn’t want to think about not winning the World Cup right now.
Right now, you were focused on Stina, watching as she fiddled with her fingers as she looked ahead. You slid closer to her, reaching out to hold her hands in yours. You squeezed her hands lightly before she moved her head to rest on your shoulder.
You took a deep breath, your feelings were once again begging to be said but you held them in. Telling Stina you were in love with her was not what she needed right now, she was already overthinking all the games that were coming up and you didn’t want to add to her stress.
So instead, you leaned your head to rest against hers. You squeezed her hands once more as you both sat in silence watching the sun set over the water.
– August 19th, 2023 –
You shook hands with the Australian players before you were brought into a tight hug from Stina. Your arms wrapped around her waist as you two stumbled slightly. You were happy to be leaving Australia with a medal but you hated that it was the first palace medal.
“I’m proud of you, älskling,” Stina cooed as she pulled away from you. Your eyes quickly scanned her features, a smile matching hers graced your features as you looked at her.
“I’m proud of you,” you echoed her words, though you wanted to say more.
You did your best to tune out the noise around you but it was hard and before you knew it you were being pulled by your teammates to receive your medals. You were determined to finally tell Stina how you felt.
After getting your medals and doing media, you were back in the locker room celebrating your third-place win. Your mind was racing about how Stina might react but when she sent you a bright smile from across the room, all doubts left your mind. You waited until the team was back at the hotel to tell her, sending her a quick text to meet you by the hotel pool.
You paced by the pool while you waited, your psalms sweety as you went over what you were going to say. However, when Stina joined you outside, everything escaped you.
“Hi, y/n/n,” the blonde beamed as made her way toward you, moving to sit on the edge to dangle her feet into the water.
You mumbled a choked ‘hi’ as you continued to stand. “Are you alright, älskling,” Stina’s brows furrowed in worry as she looked up at you.
Your eyes widened at her words before quickly nodding your head. You cleared your throat before speaking. “I need to tell you something,” you rush out, refusing to look down at her.
Stina could sense your worry as she stood up, moving to hold your hands in hers. “You can tell me anything, y/n/n,” she assured, squeezing your hands as she spoke.
You nodded absentmindedly as you looked past her. “I’m in love with you,” you proclaimed, not bothering to beat around the bush.
Stina froze at your words, her grip on your hand faltering slightly. You panicked when you felt her grip loosen on your hands and you immediately regretted telling her.
“I shouldn't have said that, I'm sorry,” you shook your head as you took a step back, attempting to pull your hands out of hers.
Stina held your hands tighter when she felt you trying to pull them out of her grasp. “Can I kiss you,” she rushed out, her eyes scanning your face as she waited for your response.
Your eyes widened slightly before you nodded and before you could process what was happening, her lips were on yours. She moved her hands to cup your cheeks, your hands falling to her waist. Your lips moved against hers softly, all the love you felt for her making itself known.
Stina was the first to pull away, her forehead resting against yours as her eyes fluttered closed. You blinked a few times, grounding yourself in reality. “I’m in love with you too,” Stina whispered against your lips, her eyes opening as they locked with yours.
Your heart was beating fast against your chest as you pulled her into another kiss. The two of you stayed outside for a bit longer, you were over the moon knowing she felt the same way about you.
– Present day –
You picked your head up off the back of the couch when you heard a knock at your door. You sat up and rubbed your eyes softly before heading to the front door. You smiled brightly when you opened the door to see your girlfriend.
“Hi, älskling,” Stina beamed as she threw her arms around your neck. Her lips met yours in a quick kiss.
“Hi, min kärlek,” you cooed as you stepped out the door, closing and locking it behind you.
You two were planning on telling your teammates you were dating tonight and you could only imagine the amount of teasing that was about to be thrown your way. But, as Stina’s hand grabbed yours and she placed a small kiss on the back of your hand, you didn’t care about anything they might say. You were happy to have finally told the blonde how you felt after years of keeping it to yourself.
hellO IT IS I! First off I'd like to start by saying hi! I love your writings; you are my favorite long story writer, and I want to STEAL your creative abilities. Reading one of your series rn actually :D
Just wanted to say that before I tell you: if you aren't taking requests or something in this makes you uncomfortable to just discard. OKAY NOW I HAVE AN IDEA
It's another Miguel fic where reader is also spidey. She's actually one of the more techy ones! Imagine engineer from tf2 but not necessarily Texan and can make things so advanced they nearly trump Miguel's devices, plus she has her own office/shop in the society where she makes stuff for other spideys. Reader can make almost anything with enough time and materials. The funky part is: she's really clumsy. Not like "oh no I dropped this stack of papers" clumsy. I mean ENGINEER CLUMSY. She'll hit her head on things, fall, get hit real bad in battle, eat a not-fully-cooked chicken sandwich, and every time she gets back up like it was nothing because she has high constitution. I'm talking slung across a room in battle, Miguel is screaming her name in concern, and she just. Gets up. And brushes dust off her spidey suit. Or she'll be up somewhere, fall from really high, die for a sec, then get up like nothing happened and go on normally.
Thank you for hearing me, I bow my head to you. Apologies if this was too long. Respect to your efforts, and have a good day/night!
AHHHHH!!! I don't know if you'd believe it, but this is my first Miguel request 🤩!! I don't get a lot of requests, so I'm really happy to take them! It gives me a chance to practise my creative writing skills and also a boost whenever I have writer's block (which happens A LOT as you can probably tell by how up and down my posting is 😅).
Thank you for the compliments! I always get a little worried my writings are too long sometimes, but it's nice to know that people enjoy them!
Okay, so I'm not familiar with TF2, but I did a quick search and I hope I've gotten the general vibe of what you were imagining 🥺!
----------------------------------------------------------
     She leaned over Miguel’s arm to sneak a peek at whatever he’d been working on beside her. “You know, if you re-wired this connection here and took these ones out completely, you could increase the charge while using less power.”
     He turned to her, an incredulous look on his face.  But she just smiled.
     “Just try it,” she suggested calmly. “You can always change it back if it doesn’t work.”
     “Hmm.” She did have a point; he didn’t have anything to lose by giving it a go. He did as she said, taking out a few of the wires completely, then pulled the trigger on the taser. The end lit up with a spark stronger than it had ever done before and his eyes widened, impressed. “Wow. Good job, arañita.”
     She rolled her eyes, but kept the amused expression on her face.
     “I’m not your mentee, Miguel.” She turned to face him, then gestured between the both of them. “We’re on the same level. Just say ‘thanks’. Don’t talk down to me like that.”
     She shrugged before returning her attention to her own gadget and Miguel raised his eyebrows: he’d only had people respond to him with anger, meeting him head to head and chastising him for what they perceived as his condescending tone. But she just corrected him like he simply hadn’t known any better. He turned back to his desk, suddenly keenly aware of her warm presence beside him, and the two settled back into their usual comfortable silence.
     He walked into the cafeteria, unable to ignore his rumbling stomach any longer. But the lunch rush should have been over, so the area shouldn’t have been too crowded by then. His gaze landed on X, seated at a table with Ben, Jess and Peter, and his heart fluttered unexpectedly at the smile on her face. He pushed it down, not wanting to look into it, and walked over to the group. “What are we talking about?”
     She shifted over on her bench, giving Miguel enough space to squeeze in beside her, and her stomach flipped when she caught his now-familiar woodsy scent.
     “X somehow ate a raw chicken sandwich yesterday and now she says she’s fine!” Ben ousted her immediately.
     “It was undercooked!” X insisted. But her correction did nothing to ease the thoughts of salmonella that flooded Miguel’s mind.
     “¡Arañita! You can’t do that! Why didn’t you just come here?!”
     X paused, caught off guard by the rare concern on his chiselled features.
     “Oh. I was at work! But then I got to go home early.” She gave him a playful nudge, flashing him a conspiratorial smile, and Miguel felt his heart speed up again.
     “¡Arañita!” he scolded her, trying to maintain his hard expression. But she just continued to fix him with that adorable smile and all he found himself able to do was hang his head and sigh. “What are you having for dinner?”
     She twisted in her seat, swinging her leg over the bench to straddle it and face him fully. Miguel ignored the curious glances he noticed the others shooting them out of the corner of his eye and instead focused his attention on X. “Oh, I have some leftover pizza from … two nights ago? I think? So-”
     “You are not eating leftover pizza, X,” he warned her, folding his arms across his chest and scrunching his brows together in a serious expression. X felt her stomach tighten at the way his muscles pressed against his suit, then she glanced away, embarrassed.
     “Um, but …” What were they talking about again? Oh, right! Pizza! She lifted her gaze back to his. “But they’re serving cheeseburgers tonight!”
     “But you always have your chicken patty,” Miguel pointed out, confused by her response. A few of the Spider’s had different food preferences to the others, so the kitchen staff always made sure to keep a stock of different ingredients.
     “They ran out,” X told him, hanging her head in disappointment.
     “Oh.” Miguel let his arms fall back to his sides, trying to come up with a solution to her predicament. “Well, we can … we can always go out … somewhere … with properly cooked food.” He crossed his arms again as he fixed her with a knowing look and her features broke into a smile. She hopped out of her seat, delighted, but remained standing by his side.
     “Thanks, Miguel! I’ll meet you back here at seven!” She bent over to press a quick kiss to the side of his head, then ran off before he could process what had just happened.
     “Uh, what just happened?” Ben asked when Miguel remained frozen in his seat, stunned into silence. Hobie’s lips curled into an amused smirk.
     “I think boss-man here just asked X out,” he replied. “On a date.” He leaned forward in his seat, wiggling his brows to punctuate his point, and Miguel frowned.
     “No, I …” He hadn’t asked her on a date. Had he? He’d never explicitly used the word, but … he had invited her to dinner. With him. Outside of work. Ay, mierda, had he just asked her out on a date?
     Hobie laughed at how flustered the large man had become by the tiny little spider, then he started getting up from the table as well.
     “Well, you might want to get yourself cleaned up first,” he suggested, nodding at Miguel’s scuffed up suit, the bruise on his cheekbone and the faint trail of stubble dotting his jaw. “I’m not sure if X is into the whole ‘I’ve been awake for the past seventy-two hours wrestling different lowlifes and creeps’ look.” Miguel huffed in irritation.
     “She’s never-” ‘complained about it before’, was what he’d been about to say. But that would only make it sound like he cared what she thought about him - like he paid attention to what she thought about him. And then they’d only tease him even more about it being a date. He turned away from them, sniffing in offence. “It’s not a date.”
     Jess snickered at his petulant attitude, her features twisted into a knowing expression.
     “Okay, but you still have to look presentable, right?” she pointed out. “You’re not just going to drag her to any random restaurant in your Spiderman suit, right? Especially if she’s going to be all nicely dressed up.”
     His body heated up at the thought of her being ‘all nicely dressed up’. What would she wear? He’d never seen her in anything other than her Spidersuit before. But she had some really nice curves - curves he’d find his gaze lingering on for a little too long at times. He shook the thought away, pushing his feelings of excitement aside.
     “Uh, yeah. Fine. Whatever.” He waved them off, then stood up, shifting in position hesitantly before he walked away. “Message me if you need anything.” He marched away before they could tease him anymore on the subject, but his stomach flipped at the thought of seeing her again later that night.
     He walked into the workshop, searching for the small form of his- of X.
     “¿Arañita?” he called into the room when he couldn’t find her.
     “Workshop!” she yelled from under the table, not knowing whether or not he’d already guessed where she was. “Ugh, where’s my- Ow!” She stood up and rubbed her head where she’d hit it on the underside of the table. And ay, Dios, she looked so cute in her little black dress, her hair neatly done, her features prettily made up. She gave him a sheepish smile as she walked over to him and Miguel felt his heart beat a little faster at the sight.
     “Sorry, I was just- Whoa!” Her eyes widened in fear as she slipped on her wrench - lying on the floor in front of her - but Miguel shot a web at her, catching her before she fell to the ground. He tugged her towards him, pulling her into his arms, then he huffed in irritation.
     “Be careful, arañita!” he chastised her. “You’re always … You need to be more aware of your surroundings, X.”
     “Oh! I …” She trailed off, her mind going blank when she realised how close they were now. She took in his long, dark eyelashes, the flecks of gold in his copper-coloured irises, the tiny scar on his cupid’s bow. She swallowed hard as her gaze fixed itself on his lips and Miguel raised an eyebrow, confused by her silence.
     “¿Arañita?”
     “Huh?” She dragged her eyes back up to his, but her expression remained distracted as she looked up at him. “Oh! Sorry, I …”
     She curled up against his chest, suddenly shy, and his heart sped up as he realised how close they were now: her slender fingers brushing against his chest, her soft curves wrapped up in his arms, her silky hair tickling his neck. He released his hold on her, his body heating up at the feeling of her pressed up against him. Then he turned his gaze away from hers, unconsciously rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “Uh … Are you ready to go?”
     “Oh!” X turned back towards her desk and reached for her handbag. “Let me get my- Hey! I’ve been looking for this!” She picked her drill up off the floor and gave it a little rev to check that it still worked. She smiled when it did, then proceeded to begin shoving the machine into her bag.
     “What …?” Miguel reached over to take the drill from her and place it down on her desk. Then he fixed her with an exasperated look. “You don’t need a drill on a date, arañita.” He froze when he realised that he’d just referred to it as a ‘date’, but X just grinned and wrapped her arms around his neck.
     “On the contrary, I think drilling is the perfect activity for a date, Miguel.” He sucked in a breath at her naughty suggestion, his fingers gripping her waist tightly, and she bit her lip at the feeling.
     “Uh,” he stammered out, his voice hoarse from all the dirty thoughts running through his mind at the feeling of her brushing up against him again. “Let’s … I …”
     X snickered at his nervousness and stretched onto her toes to press a kiss to his cheek. “Let’s go, amor!”
     She giggled at the word as she began making her way over to the door and Miguel felt his heart skip a beat as he followed after her.
     “¡Arañita!” Miguel called to her, narrowly avoiding Doc Ock’s outstretched tentacle as he swung between the buildings. “Use your bubble gun thing!”
     “I’m trying, amor!” X yelled back, hitting her gadget from where she stood on a nearby balcony. “Ugh! I need …” She searched her surroundings, trying to find a tool she could use to un-jam the damn thing. Then she spotted the glint of a coin lying on the floor. She cheered at the sight, then swung off the balcony to go get it. But Doc Ock caught her just as she leapt off the edge, swinging his tentacle at her and smashing her into a wall.
     “¡Arañita!” Miguel screamed, flying after her as she began falling to the ground. He caught her just before she hit the hard floor, then set her back down on her legs, wrapping her up tightly in his arms. “¡Querida! I told you to be more careful!”
     X shook her head, disoriented by the hit. “I’ll … I’ll be more careful, Miguel. I need that coin!”
     She pointed at the shimmering object and Miguel shot a web at it to pull it over them. X flashed him a sheepish smile as he handed it to her, vividly imagining the exasperated expression he was probably wearing beneath his mask right that second. “Oh, right.”
     “Hmm.” Miguel squeezed her hand before swinging himself back up into the air and slicing one of the villain’s tentacles off with the blades attached to his suit. X gulped at the way his lean body twirled and flew through the air, then she fixed her gun and took aim.
     “Take that, you- What?!” She groaned as she found herself trapped in the mound of sticky bubbles that had shot out of the gun and right at her - she’d accidentally aimed it at herself instead. “Shit!”
     Miguel turned to his girlfriend when he heard her screech of frustration, then he sighed and pressed a button on his watch. The bubbles slipped off her suit immediately, freeing her and leaving her in a confused state.
     “What? How …?”
     “I made some adjustments to your suit, cariño,” Miguel informed her, swinging over Doc Ock to slice off another of his tentacles. “Just as a precaution.”
     X gasped, horrified by the thought of someone messing with her stuff. “You what?! You touched my suit?!!”
     “Well, yeah!” Miguel responded quickly, not knowing what the big deal was - he’d touched her suit many times before already. And she’d never complained then. “I knew you'd somehow get yourself into a situation like this!”
     X huffed and folded her arms across her chest. What if he messed up all her codes? Or altered the layout of her suit in some way? What if she pressed a button to activate one of her gadgets and it did something else instead? Ugh! Now she'd have to go back and remake her entire suit! How inconsiderate of her boyfriend! Were boyfriends supposed to be this inconsiderate? Or was hers just especially nosy? “Now I'm gonna have to go back and remake my entire suit!”
     Miguel landed in front of her, his confusion obvious even through his mask. “What? Why?”
     “Because!” she exclaimed, aiming her gun at Doc Ock as he took another swing at her. “How do I know you didn't fiddle with one of my settings?!” She pressed the trigger and this time, she reached her intended target. Doc Ock twisted his neck around, trying to free his appendages from the mass of gelatinous goo. Miguel crossed his arms, amused by the cute little glare his girlfriend shot at him.
     “Oh, you mean like how you always do with my stuff?” he pointed out. X’s jaw dropped at the accusation.
     “W-What?” she stammered out. “I'm not ‘fiddling’! I'm ‘improving’ …”
     She sniffed and gave a little pout, offended by his dismissal of her enhancing his gadgets as ‘fiddling’ with them. But could he be right? Was this how he felt whenever she started playing around with one of his gadgets? But that was just a gadget, not his entire suit! But maybe she hadn't been so considerate either. She bit her lip as she peeked up at him, picturing the smug smirk on his face. She sighed. “Fine. I'll stop-”
     “No,” Miguel interrupted her, making his way over to the struggling Doc Ock. “Don't even pretend like you aren't just gonna keep on messing with my stuff, arañita.”
     X narrowed her eyes at him and frowned as she followed behind. “You're so mean, Miguel.”
     He walked into the workshop just as his girlfriend handed one of the Peter’s back his web shooters.
     “There! It should be as good as new. Better, even! But don’t tell Miguel.” She grinned mischievously and Miguel felt his heart flutter at the sight. Peter shot a few webs at the ceiling, testing out the repaired gadget, and his eyes widened with admiration.
     “Whoa! That’s great! Thanks, X!”
     “No problem!” She waved at him as he left the room, then her features lit up when she saw Miguel walking over to her. She ran over to him and he swiftly webbed away a stray screwdriver before she could trip over it. He should really look into putting motion detectors on her tools or something - programme an alarm to go off every time she got too close to one of them. “¡Querido! ¿Qué tal, mi amor?”
     He wrapped her up in a hug as she slid her arms around his neck, then she pulled back slightly and stretched onto her toes to peck his lips. Miguel bent over, resting his forehead on hers, and narrowed his eyes. “Mmm. Better than mine, hmm?”
     His girlfriend giggled and Miguel’s lips stretched wider at the sound. He slid his hands down her back, stopping when he reached her ass, and X sank into his chest, leaning into his touch.
     “Oh!” She straightened, suddenly remembering something. Miguel kept his hands glued to her waist as she bounced over to her desk and grabbed her tablet.
     “So, I've been trying to be more aware of my surroundings - like you told me to?” She twisted around in his arms and glanced up from her tablet, a proud expression on her face. “And my accident rate has dropped by seventy six percent in the last three months!”
     Miguel grinned, not pointing out that that was the same amount of time that they’d been officially dating and that he’d gotten familiar enough with her quirks to anticipate her clumsiness. Instead, he tightened his grip around her, pulling her back into his chest so she had to crane her neck back to look up at him. “What about the other twenty four percent?”
     She laughed at the way he murmured it against her lips, his voice smooth and suggestive. Then she pressed her lips back to his and smiled. “No one can be completely free of accidents, Miguel. I'm only human. I'm not perfect.”
     “You're perfect to me, querida,” he retorted. X let out another soft giggle and stretched onto her toes to shower her boyfriend with soft kisses.
     “And you to me, cariño.”
Maybe We're Both Chasing Ghosts
WC: 2k
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Letting go has never been easy for you. You never learned how to give up, concede, or when it was time to let something go. Especially when someone is the love of your life.
You’re going crazy. Plain and simple you’ve started seeing things. The side table lamp Elisa always used to have on in the living room when she was up late is on when it’s just you in the apartment, her figure walking around the corner, the smell of her as you walk past the door to the balcony. Everything you do reminds you of when she was here. Everywhere you go there's a woman with the same colour hair or skin tone and there’s a colleague who’s expression reminds you of the way Elisas brows furrowed when she was confused. It all makes your stomach hurt to look at and yet you never look away. You’ll hurt as long as you get a chance to see a part her again.
You know Elisa was doing what she thought was best for both of you. The constant near misses with communication. How far apart you always felt even when you were right next to each other. The stretches you’d go without talking and when you did it felt forced and stilted. Nothing like the beginning when the silence had been because you both were quieter people and enjoyed simply basking in each other's presence. There were times when it had felt like you almost had what you used to have back before it would slip away again. The silences which would drag out seconds too long.
Maybe it started when you felt like you were overwhelming her, maybe it started when she stopped looking for you first in a crowded room, maybe it was over the second you were finally comfortable. It seems to be a running theme in your life, “Nothing gold can ever stay.” What you won’t admit to as a non religious person is the day before she told you it was for the better to walk away, you asked the moon to keep her. I’ll do anything, just let me keep her. You pleaded and yet no one listened.
She’s your best friend even though you haven't spoken in months. Three months, two weeks and four days if you were counting. She knows you inside and out, from the food you don’t like to how you appreciate actions more than words. What gets you is the way she knew everything about you and you knew everything about her and none of it was enough to prevent this.
As the winter months begin to creep in and the wind nips at your cheeks again you feel the weight of her absence more than ever. You never realised you’d become conditioned to having an arm slung around your shoulder until the first time you shivered in a group of friends and a weight hadn’t overcome you to pull you into her side. When you’d been cold and no one had grabbed your hands to warm them up and kissed either side of your cheeks to make you smile and blush. Something in you had felt incomplete without nagging Elisa to put on an extra sweater as you went out because it’ll be cold and you are only human no matter what you say about being super hot Elisa. The way you’d looked up the hall to see whether or not she was coming and then remembered no one was there and there hadn’t been for a while.
Her ghost hangs heavy in the side of the couch she always used to lay on with the pillow she liked and in the weight of the pan she used to cook almost every meal (the handle feels different like it’s been melded to her hand exactly). Since she left you’ve been missing a part of you. Date your best friend, they say, it’ll be amazing. It was, you wouldn’t give a second of it for anything but this type of pain makes you understand why they call it heartbreak. You feel as though you’ve been split in two and are missing a limb. You’d never been a child who’d cried for their parents and when you’d moved to Europe for schooling you’d never looked back but now at 26 you were learning what it felt like to be home sick.
Elisa pov:
She’d fucked up. She didn’t know loneliness could be so all encompassing. She’s tried to fill her days with training and exercise and then going out with friends and calling her family “just because she wants to talk.” All of it is to keep her from stopping and thinking about you. The way she’s become less of a whole while still being one person. Half of her is missing. She can’t explain it without sounding like she’s co dependant but she couldn’t tell where she ended and you began.
Something is missing.
Scratch that.
Everything is missing.
A part of her is empty.
And she knows she’s got no one to blame but herself. Instead of talking to you, she’d decided the connection you’d had was too good to be true. Of course it was, how can something so romantic exist in real life? It doesn’t. Except it does, the little voice in her heart whispers, you had it. She’d seen it, she’d felt it, she’d tasted it. Had it in the palm of her hand and let it slip away.
The ache is eating away at her. A dull pulsing in her head constantly, she keeps herself exhausted to the point of falling straight into bed when she gets back to her apartment. It’s hard to call it home anymore without your perfume lingering in the air anymore. Your chapsticks stashed in various drawers through the apartment are gone. All the lights are off when she comes back. The place is empty. She’s empty.
She’d taken down all the photos and traces of you left around and put them in a box hoping it would help her heal faster. All it does is test her willpower to not empty the tubes of chapstick trying to touch something your lips have been on. No matter what she does, the quiet keeps creeping in. She can’t outrun the itch beneath her skin. The ache in her bones that never seems to fade. The feeling in her gut screaming something isn’t right. The quiet used to be her sanctuary now it’s suffocating without you to smile at her from across a room or squeeze her shoulder as you pass by.
She simultaneously feels invisible and like she sticks out like a sore thumb in every room she’s in. She’s not meant to be there. She’s meant to be next to you. But now you’re standing on the other side of the change room laughing at a joke she hasn’t heard, hasn’t told and something in her is coiling. She doesn’t know what’s going to happen when it snaps.
Jackie is helping you put your necklace back on and it shouldn’t bug her but it does. She’s hot and this room is too small. She knows it’s not like that but when Jackie brushes your hair to one side, a tad unnecessary if she gets a say, she has to tear her gaze away. Putting your necklaces back on after practice used to be her job. The small moment of quiet intimacy is what she’d wait all day for. When it felt like nothing else in your relationship was working, she’d always had that at the end of the day. Her fingers brushing the nape of your neck, the brush of your hair to your side, a smile creeping onto her face. If no one else was in the room she’d kiss the back of your neck and wrap her arms around you from behind. You’d stand there basking in each other's presence until you were ready to let go.
She’s fuming someone has taken her place, although not really and if someone has taken her place as your partner, her stomachs turns and she might be sick at the thought. A small voice calls out within her, be gentle with her.
She needs to get out of here asap. She’ll call her mom on the drive home, then go for a run, then pick up groceries when she gets back, she should really call her brother soon and see what he’s been working on lately, maybe there's a game on tonight she can catch- anything to keep her from thinking about you and this and how she’s fucked up.
Cause here’s the thing, even when you’d stopped texting her when you got home and when slowly less and less clothes of yours were appearing in her laundry, you’d never stopped being in sync on the pitch. Always anticipating the others' moves before she did it herself. It was infuriating to know you almost had it all. That’s what happens when you know everything about a person, every habit, every movement, she knows she could pick you out of a room of people just by how you breathe.
By the time she gets home from her post practice run she’s too tired to make dinner. She’ll order it in, making a deal with herself that she’ll walk to go pick it up. One of the things that most endeared her to you in the beginning was the willingness to break your nutrition plans laid out by the staff. Technically you were allowed to eat what you wanted but some foods were heavily discouraged. Such as pasta with a ton of carbs and no vegetables, which happened to be your favourite meal.
Slipping her shoes on and beginning the walk down to the italian place you loved to have date nights in she remembers all the times you'd made the walk together. She tries to not think about you and keep herself busy. The key word is tries because about 95% of the time she fails at it. A part of her hopes she’ll walk in to pick up her order and you’ll be there too. Hearts, stomachs, and feet falling in sync together once more. Please, she turns her eyes upward, let me get what I want this once.
Despite her quick checks around the restaurant and toward the bathroom and her dragging out the process longer than she needs to just in case you showed up, she resigns herself to a life of loneliness. Lost her thoughts she pulls the door open as someone pushes in and they stumble into her.
“Oh my god i’m so sorry-”
Your eyes turn upwards and meet hers. You both suck in sharp breaths chests in sync as they push against each other. Your eyes lock and the tension is almost unbearable but pretending like you don’t know each other is the most unbearable thing that could happen. Her hand, which came up to stabilise you, rests on your arm. Her thumb twitches to flick up and rub soothing circles right below your bicep.
If she gets a second chance she’s thinking now might be the time to act on it. She lets herself relax and smile at you, she can instantly feel the sigh of relief.
“Pretty sure this isn’t on your diet plan” She teases.
You smile challengingly up at her, “Pretty sure it isn’t on yours either.”
Your smiles are growing bigger by the second.
“Well,” She whispers and leans closer to you, dropping her voice to an octave where she knows only you’ll be able to hear her. “I won’t tell if you won’t tell.”
She knows what speaking low in a crowded room does to you, it’s no surprise when she feels you shiver against her. She wraps her hand around her bicep now, rubbing your arm up and down as if she’s heating you up, all an excuse to touch you again.
You lean in conspiratorially, “Okay your secrets safe with me.” Nodding to sell the act.
You both stand and stare because what are the chances? Maybe, you both think, I don't have to keep chasing your ghost.
Chrumblr RP animatic outline, to the song Fool's Gold by Briston Maroney
[Instrumental]
“Fool’s Gold”, then below in smaller letters, “A Chrumblr RP animatic”. Then when the guitar comes in, it shows the gang all showing up one at a time and meeting
I hate to say it, but I think I'm getting too old
Nightwing, Tired™, getting between Peter and Arrio
The conversations that my mind won't even let me hold
Maddox being confused about Nia's messages
Your attention isn't worth my weight in fool's gold
Peter sticking his tongue out at Arrio
Wanna let go, can I let go?
Raoul asking Maddox to help him sleep (to Maddox's surprise)
Started talking and you couldn't look in my eyes
Nia telling Arrio about the messages
Told me stories 'bout you drinking on the fourth of July
Arrio telling Nia about Jupiter City
Every little truth, it turned into a big lie
Matt explaining how he met Peter, puts a hand on his shoulder and Peter tugs his sleeve further over his web shooters
Why do I try? Why do I try?
Maddox almost outing a panicking Peter as Spiderman
If I hold my breath 'til I fall asleep
Christine playing with Raoul's hair, his head in her lap
Will it be there when I wake?
Nightwing, Nia, and Venatrix coming out of the forest to stand at the treeline
Maybe we can take some time
Maddox offering Arrio his hand
Move out West where we can do this right
The gang walking through town and finding the inn
Broken clock still keeps the time
Maddox talking about his amnesia/explaining how he knows Strike
Who says I've got to stay in line?
Arrio and Peter initial confrontation
I'm so sick of these city lights
Nightwing looking out the inn window at the unfamiliar town
Everything here's black and white
Trixi and Strike arguing with Arrio on the rooftops
I don't know where I went wrong
Nia finding out her shooting wasn't helping
But I surely did tonight
Nia panicking after shooting Matt
It just me or is this music playing too loud?
Nia tapping, Matt rubbing his ears
All the kids dressed in black, really getting me down
Peter pushing past Arrio, who then says he’ll stay back from the mission
Mother warned me about hanging with the wrong crowd
Nia panicking when Maddox tries to use the force on her
Gotta get out, gotta get out
Nia and Trixi running through the woods with Sploto poking out of Nia's bag
Don't give a fuck if you intended to ignore me
The kids having their heart-to-heart on the floor of Trixi and Nia's room
Wish that I could close my eyes and just go back to sleep
Raoul and Christine panicking in the hallway being comforted by the other adults
That's your best friend, and she's passed out in the backseat
Strike sitting on the edge of Maddox's bed where he's laying
She needs you more than me
Peter staying awake with Arrio, the fire butterflies floating around the ceiling
If I fall asleep with my hands held tight
Nia and Trixi in bed hugging
They'd be there when I wake
Strike hugging Maddox as he has nightmares
And maybe we can take some time
Trixi going to stand next to Arrio at the inn
Move out West where we can do this right
Nia, Trixi (in fox form), Matt, and Raoulstine sitting in the grass talking (during the interrogation)
Broken clock still keeps the time
(Same scene but focus on Raoulstine) Christine smiles sadly and takes Raoul's hand
Who says I've got to stay in line?
Raoul yelling about not keeping secrets
I'm so sick of these city lights
Dick takes off his mask for everyone to see
Everything here's black and white
Strike making a light-hearted comment at the inn, Arrio misinterpreting it and getting annoyed
And she's calling me to bed
Christine and Raoul in their room
But I will not sleep tonight, mm
Arrio awake in the corner after Peter's fallen asleep
I have a tendency to overthink in my head
Peter getting a second hug from Strike
Let's just listen to some music and go back to bed
Matt entering his room and finding Dick already asleep
Probably didn't hear a single word that I said
Arrio looking at Nia knowingly and her ignoring his look and just smiling
Just forget it until the mornin’
The gang eating breakfast, then stepping outside and finding themselves on the island (sans Maddox)
Stay (Dean Winchester x OFC)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Original Female Character Rating: PG-13 for swearing and mentions of sex. Summary: Dean and Avery have a two-night stand, and after that weekend, they go their separate ways. They never expected to see each other again, but the universe has other plans. A/N: Guys, where do I even begin? It’s been ages. I miss you. I see your messages, your likes, your reblogs. Thank you. Here’s this. I wrote a lot of it on my phone, so bear with me if there are typos.
It just goes like this, doesn't it?
One night where the both of them could let go of expectations, of being who the universe was making them be. One night.
But just like they knew they didn't have a choice but to be who the universe wanted them to be, they should have known the universe would pull the absolute worst April Fool's Day prank of all time.
They gape at each other, minds racing as images of tangled sheets, open mouths, and moonlit smiles come flooding back.
The task at hand doesn't let them linger too long.
She's firing with military precision, and he's right there with her, sweat dripping down his jaw as he reloads round after round, wondering if the universe put them both here to die together.
But then Sam shows up, like he always does. He saves them both, and the three of them save the day.
It takes longer for Dean to work up the courage to look her in her eyes. He feels-- he feels ashamed somehow, that he let her go that rainy Sunday morning.
There was never an argument or anything. They both just knew it was time. She had said she had to catch a flight and get back to work, and he lied and told her he had to do the same thing.
They had two nights of connection, of passion, but also of affection. He told her things he never told anyone. They spent a Saturday night fully clothed, eating take out straight from the containers in a hotel's king-sized bed. He felt comfortable with her like he hadn't felt with anyone in years.
And yeah, it sucked when she left. He sort of hoped there'd be a knock on the door saying she missed her flight, but he wasn't sad. They both knew what they were signing up for when they met at the bar that Friday night, eyes only for each other.
Still, he thinks he's remembered her kiss every day since.
He still thinks no one has ever touched him like she did.
So, yeah, he's a little angry and flustered when he sees her here, because she said she worked in marketing or some bullshit, and while he didn't expect her to be totally truthful with a stranger, this is a little too coincidental to be believed.
She bats his hands away when he offers to help her bandage a big scrape on her leg, and he tries not to make a face at the rejection. He's very aware of Sam watching him closely, but he has no idea what to say.
There's no point in lying about knowing her. He told Sam that he had spent a weekend with a woman the day he came home from his impromptu trip, but that it was nothing special, nothing but some no strings attached fun.
Turns out Dean might be the one who had a few strings.
.
Her face feels like it's on fire. Her game plan so far is just to refuse to speak to him, but that feels a bit stupid given the situation they just found themselves in.
Jesus Christ, but he couldn't have said he was Dean Winchester when they met? To be fair - she didn't give a lot of details about herself either. They didn't even really talk about work except when she said there was no way she could stretch her trip into one more day. She had to work.
(She lied about work just like he did, but that's neither here nor there)
She just never thought she'd still be thinking about him months later, much less seeing him in person. In the middle of a hunt.
She did have a real job. She wasn't lying about that. Her work for the FBI is very, very, VERY top secret. Fringe Division has been practically dead for years, but ever since the almost-apocalypse (she supposes she has Dean to thank for that, too), their work is more important than ever.
She was just supposed to be doing field work. Recon. She was never supposed to get involved, but here she is, trying to put a bandage on herself in the middle of the woods.
She can’t stop herself from watching his hands, remembering when they traced every inch of her skin and made her gasp and writhe and the way in the next breath they’d find a ticklish spot and make her laugh.
It’s just all so unbelievable.
Sam is the one to break the ice, which feels inevitable. “So. Anyone want to explain this?” He gestures between her and Dean.
Dean’s jaw clenches. For a moment she feels frustrated because why is he angry? They parted mutually. They both told lies and half truths and let themselves escape in high thread count sheets and each other.
She thrusts out her hand. The one not currently covered in blood. “Avery Harper.”
“Avery.” Sam repeats.
“Technically it’s Special Agent Avery Harper, but I won’t tell if you won’t.”
Dean chokes out a laugh, but it’s a little bitter. Avery’s smile doesn’t meet her eyes.
“I think we have a lot of catching up to do,” she suggests. “Food?”
She turns and heads toward her car before anyone says anything else. She hears a whispered argument, an exasperated sigh, and then finally the sound of footsteps on the crushed gravel. A hand grabs her elbow a moment later, then releases her like she’s on fire.
“We look like shit.” Dean’s voice is gruff. “Pizza at our place instead.”
The drive to their place is pleasant, at least. She struggles to keep up with Dean’s car, but she suspects he’s doing it on purpose so she lets him. He’s never truly out of her sight. She uses the time to try to work her way out of this, but decides there’s no point.
The only thing she needs to do is make them understand she’s not trying to take over their turf and that she has no interest in arresting them, and hope that they hear her out.
She follows along a long dirt driveway. The building looks rundown from the outside, but she trusts them. Trusts Dean.
Inside, she’s not ashamed of the way her mouth falls open as she takes in the gleaming tiles and smooth wood. The place is incredible.
“The inner sanctum?”
“Something like that.” Dean mutters, brushing past her. They both pause at the contact.
“I’m going to…. order pizza”. Sam says, quickly making himself scarce.
She and Dean stand there in the fading sunlight streaming in through a nearby window, and the light catches on his eyes. He’s hurt. She can see that, and she does feel guilty. Even though they were both doing the same thing, she’s realizing now that he probably would have loved to know he was completely understood.
That night, even though she didn’t know who he was, she felt a connection that was deeper than attraction. Now she knows why.
“I didn’t know who you were.” She says, hands tightening at her sides.
“How is that possible?”
“Not every agent is out to get you.”
He smirks. “Most of my interactions with the feds say the opposite.”
She exhales.
He rubs a hand over his face. The sound of his stubble scratching against weathered palms takes her back to a warm bed, a feeling of being so cocooned with someone else she couldn’t tell where he ended and she began.
“Is Avery even your real name?” He asks, voice rough.
“Yes.”
A beat. “Marketing?”
She can’t help but laugh. “I didn’t know what to say!”
“You could have bragged about having a badass job.”
She’s surprised, but tries not to show it. “So could you.”
He shrugs. “Wanted to… shed it.”
“Me too.” She admits softly.
This time when he meets her eyes, his are vulnerable, a dark green that leaves goosebumps on her arms. “I—“ he stops himself. She wishes he wouldn’t. He changes tactics. “Let me take a look at that arm.”
“It’s alright-“
“Ave. Let me.”
A shortened version of her name hits her right in the gut. It’s familiar, intimate in a way she hadn’t been expecting. “Okay.” She relents.
.
He can’t take his eyes off her.
He was angry for a minute, he felt off guard, off kilter, but now that she’s in front of him he can’t bring himself to hold a grudge. He’s just happy to see her.
The FBI.
What a fucking day.
She doesn’t tell him much about why she was hunting, how she knew about the fight he and Sam were in on, how she showed up right when they did and where any of her intel came from.
They’ve always known that someone somewhere in the feds had an inside track, and it always bothered him. But because it’s her, he can’t find it in himself to be angry.
He thinks of the way she didn’t hesitate, just set up shoulder to shoulder with him and aimed her weapon like she’d be damned if anyone or anything tried to get close to the Winchesters.
He’s pretty amazed by her, he’s got to admit. She’s everything he’s ever wanted wrapped up in the most beautiful package, and that’s what makes him pause. Because he’s never allowed to have good things for long.
In his bathroom he inspects her wounds, uses the excuse to crowd her a little bit, inhales the familiar scent of citrus and vanilla that follows her like a cloud.
If she notices she doesn’t say anything and he’s grateful.
Her hand fits just so in his.
“Thank you.” She says eventually.
“You don’t have to thank me.”
“Dean—“
He looks up, sees her eyes uncertain, a little wild.
She kisses him before he can take his next breath. It sends heat sizzling up his spine, electricity crackling in the space between them.
It’s exactly how he remembers it, and somehow more. More because they’re truly themselves now, no secrets between them.
His hands are in her hair. Hers are tight on his hips, digging in, a desperation in her touch that he's relieved to feel, proof that he isn't the only one feeling this way.
When the need for air is too much, they wrench apart, gasping. Her mouth goes to his neck, and his lips find her forehead, and he can't do this again. He can't pretend.
"Wait. Avery, wait."
Her eyes are unfocused when she looks at him. "Sorry--"
He shakes his head. "Don't be. I-- god, I wanted that. I just... it's too much. I can't."
"I've thought about this for months." She admits, and his eyes slide shut.
"Don't tell me that."
"It's the truth." When he opens his eyes again, her smile is sad, but there's a bit of hope there too, and it makes his heart pick up speed. "I didn't want to go, that morning. I wanted to give you my number, I wanted to see you again."
"I did too. I wanted you to come back."
"It feels cursed, Dean." She says quietly. "This-- this is all too much of a coincidence."
He nods. "I know. But-- is that so bad?" He leans close, lips at her temple. Can't stop touching her. "Can't we just give ourselves something to be happy about?"
"We do have a lot to fill each other in about." She agrees, words sounding more like a moan in the quiet room.
"Stay." His voice is hoarse. "Stay with me. We'll figure it all out after."
He's tired of denying himself things he wants, things that make him happy. And if all the decisions he's made over the last few months, every thought and every choice have lead him right back here to her, then who is he to question it?
She stays.
Elriel month, new beginnings:
'first I love you.'
Tumblr media
Elain looked up at Azriel, who was lying on a king size bed right next to her, with her sleepy brown eyes.
He smiled at her for what happened to be one second after he saw tears in her doe eyes. His smile fell from his face as he cradled his scarred palms into her light-brown hair, shadows shivering around their naked forms. Azriel stroked her head with his thumbs as he asked, “Is something wrong?”
Elain said nothing. Azriel thought how she was always quiet like this three years ago, when she had been turned into High-Fae.
Very quiet, very calm, very small, so fragile, so very sad looking… just like now. Except, now she was in his arms and she shouldn’t be, he remembered.
His eyes was suddenly sad too. Elain moved her one delicate hand from his chest to his silky hair. Shadows vanished from his face at the movement. Azriel had longer hair than normally and it wasn’t because he wanted, but he didn’t have time for himself. He worked hard, because if he wasn’t he’d think of Elain and how her mate keep courting her.. or worse. He’d get her and run away. On the continent, where she wants to go. He’d go with her, he promised. And when he wasn’t working he was sneaking with her, behind his brothers and her sister’s backs, behind everyone’s backs. It wasn’t fair. He wanted to give her everything. And he would, he promised again.
She moved strand of his black hair behind his right ear. Azriel started stroking Elain’s cheek in his large palm. There’re tears rolling down. She was crying quietly and he wondered if it was because she used to cried herself out loud to sleep before, that she now didn’t have enough strength to do so - crying loud.
Elain’s palm remained on his ear. Her pale fingertips tracing shape of his rounded ear. So opposite of her pointed ones and on the other hand exactly the same as people have.
Och, my Elain..
Azriel thought. He knew now.
She was touching his ear so gently he couldn’t tell if it was her or gentle breeze which were sneaking in through open windows, through which he crept in.
He opened his mouth to apologise. He didn’t even know why he wanted to, but he felt shattered. He wanted her to be happy here. Happy like her sisters.
But he stopped himself as Elain spoke, “I miss it.. sometimes,” she smiled sadly. He didn’t said anything. He knew she meant her life as a mortal woman.
“We lived poorly in our shack. Our father wasn’t exactly the best father, but he was our father. I think I was happy, I had everything I wanted.. selfishly. Garden, Nesta’s love, Feyre’s money, new clothes.. Nesta wasn’t suffering that much, I thought, because our mother was dead,” Elain snorted, still caressing Azriel’s ear.
Azriel’s shadows now loomed from behind his massive batwings. He felt them rustling. Listening carefully.
“Then we got estate from Tamlin. I organised balls, I had some new clothes, bigger garden even, fiancé.. We forgot about my little sister except Nesta.”
sorrowful.. melodic voice is sorrowful..
Shadows whispered through Elain’s fingers to his right ear. They’re dancing with her fingertips now. As if they wanted to comfort her, soothe her.
She continued, “I didn’t feel ashamed for the first time in my life, because I didn’t remember Feyre, what she went through thanks to us. About what I was thinking plenty back in our poor shack," Azriel was listening carefully with hazel eyes, more yellow than green tonight, big as a bumblebees which were visiting Elain’s garden.
“What I want to say is, I think it was the happiest time in my life, in that estate,” she whispered, tears didn’t stop rolling.
Azriel felt jealousy, anger, confusion, sadness. Because, he wanted to be the centre of happiest point in her life, because…she was his.
“I don’t want you to feel stressed about us. I know we’re both suffering. I’ll wait Azriel. Oh, mother, I want to wait for our happily ever after. I believe in it. I think.. I’d life the happiest life then," she moved closer to him and Azriel started sobbing.
Shadows shrouded them both. Caressing their faces, dancing across Elain’s pale cheeks and chest. soothed Azriel with gentle whispers.
Elain smiled at Azriel, her big dreamy eyes flickering with something.. She cupped his rounded ear. As she was leaving her past. Closing her old self. "I love you, Azriel." She whispered to him. Azriel closed his wet eyes and took a deep breath, before he opened them again.
"You’re the happiest point of my entire existence Elain, I’m so in love with you," she batted her long eyelashes at him and then she kissed him fiercely.
The End.
In Time 2/2
Bruce Wayne X Reader
Word count:1437
Warnings:angst, explicit language guns, violence
Requested taglist @too-strong-to-lose @asrainterstellar
The batbrothers keep their mom safe however she is not going to let them keep her from comforting a close friend
Tumblr media
Y/N stepped to the hospital. She wore her sunglasses and her hood on her head to conceal her pained face. She stops mid step. She turns to face them.
"you guys can stay here and scope the place out to make sure the coast is clear.. I don't think they'd believe me if I told them who you are. As well as it's inappropriate timing"
"sure! Go right ahead" Grayson assured.
Y/N continued walking as her head went down as the eyes of the detective came in her direction.
"Y/N?.."
"Detective" she greeted nervously.
"what happened to you kid?" Jim asked immensely worried for her
"don't worry about it. It was just some thug" she reassured
"you get a good look at him"
"it was dark...." she said hoping he would stop worrying for her.
"are you ok? Have you been checked out by a Dr? Can I get you a ride home? Are you hungry?"
"no!.. I'm ok. I just came here to see Bruce and Alfred"
"I just got back from there. Take care of yourself and give me a description of the assailant as soon as you can"
"I will Jim" she lied.
She stepped into the hospital room. Bruce gazes at his dear friend. He felt taken aback giving his heart a leap. That sank quickly to concern seeing her bruises. She takes her sunglasses off thinking he probably forgot how she looked. Though he never forgot how her eyes touched his heart.
"hi Bruce"
"Y/N"
He placed his hand near face scared to cause more pain of he touched the swelling. He lowers her hood seeing the dark purple color on her skin. He feels as sick as he did when he found Alfred lying in his own blood.
"who hurt you?" he asked more shakily than he intends, his jaw clenched
"Bruce.. Not right now" she pleads
He sighed knowing he would press on later. Though right now he was so glad she is here
"I'm glad you came"
"you're still my friend" she smiled to him. "I.. I never forget my friends"
His smile caused her heart to beat fast. He reaches out to her beautiful hand. She takes it kindly. The two friends embrace tightly.
"I am so sorry Bruce" she deeply said
He held onto her a little tighter. His heart was desperate for her comfort more than anyone else's. He longed to see her. He missed her so much it brought the empty hole she left to fill back his love for her.
"ohh bloody hell" Alfred muttered pained
Bruce and Y/N laughed softly parting from each other's arms.
"I think he'll be OK" Y/N said.
Bruce stepped to his father figure embracing him.
Alfred softly chuckled "careful master Bruce I'm not made ah steel" the older man saw the young girl "Ms L/N?"
"hi Alfred it's good to see you're OK"
"wish I could say the same for you dear. Who gave you that nasty bruise?"
"long story but I'm ok" she ensures "it would have been a lot worse had you not taught me how to fight"
"not well enough I'm afraid" he said bitter.
3 nights later. Slade became restless as now the GCPD was involved with the criminal. Y/N stirs in her sleep as something was troubling her. She sits up unable to sleep. She stands to her feet. She sees Jason alone in the back piddling with his knife.
"you should get some sleep" he said bitter
She shrugged her shoulder "can't seem to be able to sleep, mind if I join you?"
He motions his head for her to sit beside him. They decided not to tell her they were her son's.. So they wouldn't freak her out. It was Jason's idea and Damian agreed.. Jason didn't want her to know what will become of him, when she meets him. So many things he's said to her.
"you all seem to strangely know me pretty well. I don't know who I am to you.. Did I hurt you?" she asked him
Jason swallows hard in guilt. Did she really think that?
"no... No it's me. I uh.. when you meet me.. And after that... You kinda raised me, all of us.. I wasn't exactly.. I--" this was so hard.
She places her arm on his shoulder in kindness. She thinks back to when Duke almost calling her mom. That's when it hit her. They're her children, her son's.
"Jason.. I don't know what will happen between us but I think the future me knows you care about me.. You literally traveled back in time to save me. All of you did.. Seems to me that I am loved and I.. That makes me very happy"
He halfway smiled relieved. It was the last day Slade has the chance to end her life. As everyone began to wake up. Y/N stood up from the couch. The boys had become extra protective. Each knowing well Slade will stop at nothing to hurt her.
She sees something on her windowsill. There was a bloody cloth covering a object. She gasped taken aback. They follow after her.
"don't touch it"
Tim leans with his bo staff moving the cloth. A helpless cry left her. It was Jim's badge stained in blood. They knew this was Slade's doing. Which meant Jim could very well die.
....
Y/N holds her baseball bat walking down the steps. The others were stealthily dealing with the soldiers. Jason tackles Slade as held his rifle aiming to the room Y/N would be in to rescue Jim.
"who's there!!" Jim shouted hearing footsteps
"Jim!" Y/N shouted her voice echoing down to the lower level.
His temper fueled with worry "Y/N?! What are you doing here?! Get out of here kid!"
A shot from a rifle is heard causing everyone to be still.. She runs down the steps dropping her baseball bat. She takes out a bobby pin to pick the lock.
"what are you doing here? You have to get out NOW!!" he demanded
"shut up I'm trying to concentrate" she ordered
"there's a bomb! You have to run and don't look back"
"I'm not leaving you to die" she said her voice shaking fearing her own life and the lives of her children to be..
As she unlocked the lock. They quickly rid of the chains. He picks up the girl and runs. Jim leaves the building with the young girl in his arms. Jim shields her as the bomb explodes.
She began coughing from the debris. Their alive.
"are you ok?" he asked
"Y-yeah" she coughs "you?"
Jim nodded rising to his feet and helped her stand. With his back turned. She quickly taps the button on her watch Tim gave her. Alerting them their safe....
"you're sure you're ok?" he asked again
"I'm alright. You?"
"never better.. Thanks for saving my life" he smiled to her.
"you too" she smiled back
Sirens were heard from the ambulances and cops. Jim took a statement and was checked on by the EMT. He stepped to check on Y/N.
"ok kid let's go talk and get some ice cre--" Jim sighed seeing she was gone.
The boys apprehended Slade until midnight when he vanishes returning back to the original time line. The next night, was the last night with their mom. They didn't know how to tell her. She sits on the couch as the boys were near her. They enjoyed the takeout after a fun filled day.
"I must say. I'm very glad to know that I am going to be your mother" she smiled to each of them "I'm very proud of each of you"
Each of them smile to themselves making her proud was exactly what they want. That morning....
Y/N stretches yawning "good morning gu--" she stammered they were gone...
"so this is where you're staying" Jim said with great displeasure
Present time......
It'd been 8 days since they were gone. Damian opens his eyes, in a bed that isn't his own. He sits upward with the blanket now falling to his waist. He's at the Titans Tower. He calls Grayson. Dick stirs in his sleep. He whines opening his eyes and answers Damian's phone call
"hey little D"
"have you been in contact with mother?" Damian hastily asked
"oh shit!!" Grayson exclaimed quickly getting out of the bed
They added Duke, Tim and Jason to the call. All five brother's high tail it to Wayne Manor. Y/N walks down the stairs. She had spent the last week recovering and having new memories each time she woke up. She sees the entrance door open. Grayson nearly trips over his own feet as his brothers shove him to hurry. She looked at them with a big smile.
"you're back!!"
Grayson is the first to embrace her. She kisses his forehead. She then hugs them each of her son's overwhelmed with emotion. They saved her...
The Color Pink (Part 15)
Aaaaa sorry this took so long. This piece has been written for a while so I decided to post it since I've been too busy to write more. Sorry if it sucks.
Theodore awoke in the morning to see that his room was spotless. All the laundry was put away, and his army of half empty water bottles was gone. He tried to sit up, but it was too painful. He never picked up his painkillers from the pharmacy, so he had no means of relief. He groaned as his shoulder throbbed. Hazel appeared in the doorway almost instantly. “Theo,” she spoke calmly even though she was very worried. “Are you okay?”
“No,” he mumbled. “I can’t get up. It hurts too much.”
“Oh, okay, um…” She walked over to him in a hurry. She took the pillows out from underneath his right side. He winced in pain. “Sorry!” She was a little unsure of what to do. She went over to his other side and placed her hands underneath his neck and back. She slowly pulled up, but this only rolled him over. He cried out in pain again. She began to stress. She went to the foot of the bed. “Give me your hand.” She reached out and grabbed his left hand. “I’m gonna pull you up, and you’re gonna try and sit up at the same time, okay?”
“Mhm…”
“Okay, on three. One… Two… Three!” She strained as she pulled him up. He winced again, but he was sitting upward, so their mission was accomplished. She went over to him and held his face. “You okay?”
“No. I’m in pain.”
“Um… Okay, uh… I don’t know what to do.”
“They sent a script for painkillers over to the pharmacy. They should be ready by now. We need to go pick them up.”
“Oh, right! Good idea. Do you need help getting dressed?”
“No. I’ll just go like this.” He was dressed in sweatpants and an NTV t-shirt.
Hazel put her hands on her hips. “Really? Just like that?”
“Dude, I’m in too much pain to give a shit right now. I’m not walking down a red carpet. I was gonna send you to get them, anyways.”
“Wait, what?”
“Yeah. I was gonna wait here… Is that okay?”
“Isn’t your wallet still on set?”
“Shit, that’s right. Fuck, okay, um…” He sighed, “Ugh, I guess I’ll have to go with.”
“Plus, I need to pack a bag with some clothes. I’m going to stay here for a couple days to help you out.”
“Hazel, you don’t have to-”
She repeated herself in a firmer, more assertive tone, “I am going to stay here for a couple of days to help you out.”
He huffed. “Fine.”
“You don’t have to pity me, Theodore. I’m helping you because you need it. I’m helping you because I want to.” She went up to him and gently cupped his face in her hands. “Okay?”
He smiled. “Okay.”
She gave him a gentle peck on the lips. “You sure you don’t want to put any better pants on?”
“I’m sure. I’m comfortable.”
“Okay,” she rolled her eyes playfully, “whatever you say.” She stuck her hand out. “Come on, I’ll help you up.”
As she helped him to his feet, there was a knock at the door. He sighed, “Stay here, I’ll get it.” He dragged his feet as he walked. The entire right side of his body was stiff and sore. An ache radiated through his body with each step. The door knocked again. “SHUT UP!” He screamed in frustration as he walked up to the door. He opened it up; it was Dougie.
Theodore inhaled deeply and huffed with frustration. “What do you want?”
“Hi, boss. I have your keys and your wallet.” Dougie handed them to him.
“Oh… Cool… Thanks…”
“The set manager wants you to call him.”
Theo rolled his eyes. “What does he want?”
“He wants to know how you’re doing. We all do.”
“I’m in pain. Shout it through a megaphone and make sure everybody hears.”
“Yeah, but-”
Theo slammed the door in Dougie’s face. Hazel had come down the stairs to see that Noise had his wallet and keys in hand.
“Who was that?” She asked.
“It was Dougie. He dropped off my stuff.”
“Oh, okay, good. That’s one less stop we have to make.”
“Yep. Let’s go, I’m in a lot of pain and I want to go back to bed.”
Theo waddled behind Hazel as they headed out.
-
After everything was said and done, Theodore was completely exhausted. He had dozed off on the way back. He picked his head up once the car stopped. Hazel helped him up and out of his seat. She grabbed his hips from behind and guided him to the door.
“I’m not drunk,” he said, “you don’t have to lead me.”
“I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“You don’t have to baby me.”
“Shush. Let’s just get you inside so you can take a painkiller and go to bed. You need all the rest you can get.”
Theodore rolled his eyes and walked up to the door. Hazel unlocked and opened it for him. He dragged his feet as he walked in, holding the door for her to walk in behind him. He plopped onto the couch and kicked his legs up. His body was too tired to move anymore. Hazel hurriedly grabbed a water bottle from the kitchen and gave him the painkiller. He swallowed it without hesitation. She twiddled her fingers together as he laid his head down.
“Do you want me to take you up to your room?” She asked.
“Mmph,” he mumbled. “No. I’ll stay down here. That way if I need anything, I can just get it myself. I won’t have to go up and down the stairs a million times.”
“Hmm… Oh! Hold on, stay here.”
“I wasn’t going anywhere anyways.”
She rushed up to his room and grabbed a pillow as well as his fuzzy pink “blankie”. She came back down to see him already dozing off. “Here,” she tucked the pillow under his head and spread the blanket across him. She gave him a kiss on the forehead and he smiled. “Will you be okay if I leave?”
“You’re leaving?” He whined.
“Yeah. I’m sorry, but I have to go home eventually.”
He chuckled softly. “I’m just teasing you.”
She rolled her eyes with a smile. She ran her fingers through his hair. “I’ll be back. I have to pack some clothes and such.”
“Okay.”
“Call me if you need me, okay?”
“Okay.”
She cuffed his cheek and pecked him on the lips as goodbye.
-
She had to go through The Slum as she headed home. While she did, she was stopped by someone calling to her. She turned around to see The Vigilante running up to her as fast as possible. He looked incredibly disheveled as if he had seen the devil. “Hazel,” he shouted in a huff. “Hazel, you’re alive!” He stopped hard enough to leave skid marks from his boots. He huffed and puffed as he tried to catch his breath.
“Oh, hi Vigi,” she greeted.
“Where…” He sighed. “Where have you been?! Is everything okay?!”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. I haven’t seen you in a couple days, and your cafe has been closed. I was worried sick!”
“Sorry. I should’ve left a note on the door or something. I ended up closing early once I was done with the NTV order the other day. Something came up.”
“What happened?”
“Well, um… I don’t think it’s any of your business, but… The Noise got injured at work. He needs some help taking care of himself.”
The Vigilante rolled his eyes. “Oh, sure, big celebrity man can’t take care of himself.”
“No, seriously! His shoulder is all messed up. It’s his right shoulder, and he’s right handed. He can’t do much.”
The Vigilante still looked doubtful. “Well,” he sighed disgruntledly. “I suppose your cafe will be closed for a while…”
“Hm… I never thought about that. That’s going to be an issue… I’m already a little behind on my rent.”
“Yeah, well, you know how Pizzaface is about money.”
Her shoulders tensed up as she imagined the giant floating pizza being angry at her. He was quite intimidating naturally. She didn’t want to know what he was like when he was angry. Closing the cafe to take care of The Noise was going to cost her in the long run, but he had no one else to depend on. She chewed on the tips of her fingers nervously. How was she going to make this work? She was worried about Theodore, but she was also worried about losing her career. Regardless, she wanted to take care of him. The Vigilante was snapping in her face as she came to.
“Hazel? You okay?”
“Oh! Yeah, sorry. I was lost in thought for a moment.” She chuckled nervously.
“You look like a deer in headlights.”
“I’m fine. I have to go.” She turned around and rushed off.
“Hazel, wait-” The Vigilante tried to catch her attention again, but she was already gone.
-
Once she got home, she was stuck. She was torn between taking care of The Noise or taking care of her cafe. She shook her head and went into her room to start packing clothes and accessories. She figured she would take care of him for one more night as she thought about how she could work things out. She tried to keep it out of her mind. She wanted to get back to Noise as soon as possible. Knowing him, she was afraid he might do something stupid. Once she was all packed up, she hustled back over to The Noise’s. She couldn’t shake off her anxiety, and she wanted to get there as soon as possible so she could talk to him about it.
-
Hazel used the spare key to go through the backdoor of Theodore’s home. She walked into the living room to see him still zonked out on the couch. Those painkillers knocked him out, she thought. She slowly walked up to him and gently nudged his arm. “Theo?” He was out cold. For a moment, she feared that he was dead, even though she knew how irrational that thought was. She nudged him a little harder. His eyes slowly peeled open.
“Oh,” he muttered, “you’re back.”
“Yeah, hey, um…” She spoke frantically.
He let out a groan as he stretched then picked his head up. “Are you okay? You seem… upset.”
“Yeah. I mean, no. Well, kind of.”
He slowly sat up on his own. “Come here, sit.”
Hazel sat on the couch and twiddled with her thumbs. “So, um… I have to talk to you about something.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Uh… So… I gave it some thought and-”
Theodore’s heart sank. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen. He was worried she had gotten overwhelmed and was going to leave him.
“- I’m not quite sure I’ll be able to take care of you.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t take care of you and run the cafe at the same time.”
He shrugged. His worry suddenly faded. “Then take care of the cafe.”
“But you can’t take care of yourself.”
“Right…”
They sat in silence for a moment. Hazel felt insanely guilty.
“Hey,” Theo broke the silence, “I have an idea.”
“Hm?” Hazel looked at him with an eyebrow raised in curiosity.
“What if, and hear me out here,” he put his free hand on her shoulder. “What if I took care of you, too?”
“What… What are you talking about?”
“What if I helped you out financially while you help me? Like, what if I paid you for taking care of me?”
“What?! Theodore, no! I’d feel so guilty!”
“Please. Let me help you.”
They made eye contact for a moment. Hazel took a deep breath. “Okay.”
Theo smiled and gave her a quick smooch. “Relax. We can make this work. Everything will be okay. Anything you need, I will take care of. Okay?”
“Okay.” Hazel’s eyes were glazed over with tears. She wasn’t expecting him to react in such a way.
“You look like you’re going to cry.”
Hazel’s lower lip quivered as she nodded.
“No,” he pulled her in for a gentle hug. He wrapped his left arm around her as tight as he could. “No tears.” He kissed her cheek as she whined and shed a few tears into his chest. She sat up and wiped her tears away with her sleeve.
“Sorry,” she apologized. “I don’t know why I’m crying. I’m just stressed.”
“I know. It’s okay. You can stay here as long as you need to.”
“Okay. I mean, I’ll have to grab more clothes and things. I only packed enough for a couple days.”
“That’s fine. Everything’s fine, okay? Stop worrying.”
“Okay.”
" Dad, would you wash my back this once? " `sfw + father!joel`
Tumblr media
a/n : in this fic ellie dies. a whole alternative timeline, so if you won't enjoy that then prolly don't read this! just thought id do smth different. fem! reader<3 this shitty thing has been in my drafts for weeks. im sick of looking at it.
Tumblr media
your father joel miller was a vain man. after the loss of Sarah, he wasn't the same. which, was an obvious thing. having the last name miller gave you a 'higherachy'. people respected you. but the name didn't mean anything to you.
not anymore.
after ellie came around, joel was never there for you. even less than he used to be. the memories of before the apocalypse swarmed your brain. in some ways, you were jealous of ellie. she got the father figure you never did.
in other ways, you were worried for her. you were only 2 years older than her, 16.
joel had his third chance. you hoped that he wouldn't fuck things up like he did with you.
you still lived in jackson, in you and joels house. you would sleep in his old bed whenever you missed him.
you two had left the quarantine zone with and met Ellie. then, you three resided in jackson for a while. Joel promised that he would deliver ellie to the fireflies and be done with it.
but he broke that promise. he left with her in the middle of the night, only telling Tommy that he was taking ellie to a lab in Colorado.
well, to make a long story short, ellie died in that lab. you knew joel would never forgive himself, and apart of you wanted that. he wanted him to feel as much pain as you did when he abandoned you for some girl he barely knew. you did feel bad that ellie was dead, obviously. it isn't her fault that your dads a prick.
after ellies death, joel returned to jackson. you had no idea he was coming, and when he came you just happened to be on guard duty. you were a sniper, thats what you were good at. and you hated being on the front lines with a pistol, it pissed you off.
though today you wished you had just taken the front lines. approaching the gates, was your father. he looked.. broken. upset, to say the least.
you sighed, putting your rifle to the side and hopping off the gated wall to to unlock the gate for him.
he saw you and immediately looked like he was going to cry. it had been months since you last saw each other. though, your stoic expression didn't falter as you simply locked the gate behind him.
" .. y/n. look. im sorry. " joel immediately tried to blurt out. you shot him daggers.
" you broke your promise. i don't care how sorry you are. " you said, trying not to burst into tears.
joel sighed, knowing he couldn't change what happened. he had found that out too many times. with sarah, then ellie, now you.
he went forward and hugged you, not caring if you tried to push him away. but to his surprise, and your own, you didn't.
" kid.. i know. i fucked up but- i want to make it up to you. i want to be here. " he mumbled, you just shook your head.
" you can be here. but i ain't your kid anymore. "
that night, you two were in joels old house for the first time in ages. it felt so right, but so wrong. you stayed in your room the rest of the day, sobbing. you didn't care that joel could hear you, the walls were that paper thin that he could always hear you moving even the slightest bit.
he stood just outside the door for ages, wanting to come in and comfort you.. but he couldn't. he knew that. you needed to come round yourself.
he spent that night cooking your favourite dinner. once he was done, he came and knocked on your door.
" .. y/n. uhm. i cooked dinner. you should come down and get some. "
he said loudly, but he didn't hear anything in response. he hesitantly stepped into the room, and saw you curled up in a ball. you had cried yourself to sleep. he couldn't stop himself, he immediately went over and took you into his arms. he held you so tight. he never thought he'd be able to do that again.
he held you for hours, the idea of dinner being long forgotten. when you woke up and felt him holding you, it only made you start crying again. but not out of pain or sadness, but relief.
" its okay baby girl.. ive got you. i promise. " he said, just glad to have you in his arms again.
that night, you couldn't sleep. you missed him. you had this horrible feeling that he would leave again in the middle of the night. so you got up, creeping into his room. you stood in his door way, until he teared his eyes open, staring at you.
" kiddo? you okay? " he mumbled, sitting up.
" dad- can i.. stay in here tonight.. just this once? " you whispered out.
he nodded, letting you climb into bed with him. he held you all night, just enjoying being back with his daughter. you both knew that this wouldn't be 'just this once', but in a way that was a good thing. you both wouldn't ever be apart again. he wasn't leaving.
Part One Here
Tumblr media
It had been weeks since your collaboration performance and you’d not seen Jeonghan once, which was odd considering you shared a work building. You figured he was avoiding you but heard he’d been on several more dates with Bomi. You were confused because she didn’t report him suddenly changing now he no longer had to make you jealous and then it dawned on you that Jeonghan’s bad behaviour might’ve just been about you. Did you just bring out the worst in him or something? Was the person he was with Bomi actually the real him?
Confused you started seeing Joshua and you enjoyed it. He was nice, charming and hot but in a very different way to Jeonghan. While Jeonghan had been slender and soft Joshua was muscular and masculine. Both were good but you weren't sure which you preferred. You liked the security of dating Joshua though and he made you feel good about yourself which you needed after Jeonghan.
When the other members found out you and Bomi were both dating members of the same group but never hung out together they found it funny. They teased the two of you about it until one-day Bomi admitted it upset her because in any other situation the two couples could’ve gone on couple dates but because you and Jeonghan hated one another she didn’t feel comfortable even bringing him round to your house. You immediately felt bad your vendetta was affecting Bomi that way and sought to take some steps forward. So you told Joshua about it and that you’d be open to double dating if he was. "Really?” he asked "you know that’d mean Jeonghan being there right?". You laughed "yes but we're all adults, I think I can be civil plus it's about time we bury the hatchet". Joshua smiled "that actually makes me really happy to hear, Jeonghan's one of my closest friends and I know you’d get on if you tried". You smiled "well for you and Bomi I can certainly do that" and you kissed him softly. You figured with Joshua and Bomi there it couldn’t be that bad.
The date was arranged and you and Bomi came together. You were slightly nervous and she noticed. Bomi took your hand "thanks for doing this". You smiled at her "it's fine, I want us to become closer too". She shot you a huge smile that made it all worth it...then you saw Jeonghan. He looked good but then again when didn’t he? He seemed tense though. While Joshua grinned when he saw you Jeonghan looked down. Joshua was definitely the more welcoming whereas Jeonghan just muttered a hello and didn’t look at you or even really Bomi.
”Well you both look lovely” Joshua smiled “did you struggle getting here?”. You shook your head “no parking was easy”. “That’s lucky” Jeonghan said looking at you and you flushed but figured mentioning your driving was a coincidence so you didn’t comment. “It’s so cold though!” Bomi said and Joshua nodded chatting to her about it.
You could tell Jeonghan didn’t want you here. You could feel the angry energy practically radiating off him and anytime he looked at you there was nothing but coldness there. He spoke to the others fine but his words to you were sharp and passive aggressive. You’d only been there 10 minutes and it was already grating on you.
Joshua asked how the interview you’d done as a group earlier was. You and Bomi began to explain how one of the hosts was really rude. “He kept insulting up but in that backhanded way you can’t really accuse him of anything” you explained. Joshua groaned “I hate that”. Bomi nodded “and he was so rude to Y/n. She kept defending us and answering him back and he called her unlikable! Can you believe it?” she cried angry for you. You smiled at her when Jeonghan ruined it with one word.   "Yes" he muttered and you all froze.
You were caught off guard and a little hurt. "I didn’t mean..." Jeonghan said noticing how everyone went quiet but you weren’t having it. "I think it's exactly what you meant" you replied and stood up "I'm going to the bathroom please excuse me". Joshua went to follow you when Bomi stood up "let me" and she glared at Jeonghan before rushing after you. "What the hell?" Joshua asked the second she left "can’t you see how hard Y/n is trying?". "Maybe that’s the problem?" Jeonghan replied "why does she always have to be a perfect princess pretending everything is okay?". "You know I always thought this was two-sided but now i’m thinking you’re the one with a problem not her but I can’t for the life of me work out why" Joshua glared "what has she ever done to you? Is this all because she almost scratched your car months ago?". Jeonghan sighed "no". "Then what is it? What’s so bad that you couldn’t put aside one night of being petty for Bomi and me?". Jeonghan shook his head in disbelief at what Joshua was encouraging him to tell. "I...I should just go. Tell Bomi I'll call her later" he said and he left some money before leaving. Meanwhile in the bathroom you felt awful. Jeonghan was obviously more hurt than you were about what had happened but you had no idea what to do about that. Then Bomi came in and you wiped your eyes “i’m fine I just need a second”. “No you’re not, come here” she said and wrapped you in a hug. “I’m sorry I just wasn’t expecting it” you admitted. Bomi nodded “he was horrible and I could see you trying so don’t you dare apologise”. “But I wanted to put this all behind us for you” you admitted and Bomi shook her head “you tried. You did that for me, it was him that didn’t and don’t worry I’ll deal with him. The way he spoke to you was not okay”. You went to brush it away but Bomi shook her head “no I’m not letting it go. You don’t have to be best friends and maybe double dates were a bit unrealistic but he won’t be rude to you like that. You’re my friend and I love you” Bomi said and you almost cried again. “I love you too” you smiled and she took your hand “now dry your tears and let’s go have a nice night. I bet Jeonghan’s left so we can have a chill night just me, you and Joshua. Okay?”. You nodded and followed her out of the bathroom.
Joshua was just as apologetic about what happened. You told him not to worry about it but he wouldn’t take that and was determined he’d get Jeonghan to apologise to you. You hoped it was going to be one of those promises that nobody ever mentioned again but then your leader texted you telling you, you’d be doing another performance with Seventeen. Apparently the first one got a lot of views so your management had arranged a second one. You’d be seeing Jeonghan first thing on Monday morning.
Great.
The second you walked into the dance studio Jeonghan noticed you. His eyes shot to you and then he looked reluctantly to Joshua who was across the room. You pretended like you hadn’t seen him and didn’t know he was coming over. He greeted Bomi and then called your name “Y/n can we talk outside for a second”. You paused “if this is about the other night you don’t have to...” when Bomi interrupted “go with him Y/n, please?”. You couldn’t say no to her so you nodded and Jeonghan led you from the room. “There a small room we can use down here” he said and you just nodded. You tried not to think about how it was the practice room you first slept together in and just looked at the floor. Once inside Jeonghan closed the door firmly and turned to you “i’m sorry for what I said to you the other night”. You shook your head “it’s fine, there’s history here so forget it”. Jeonghan frowned “but I don’t like how I acted and as you said what happened between us is in the past. There’s no need for me to keep punishing you for it”. You looked at him confused “what made you have a change of heart? Three days ago you hated me”. Jeonghan sighed “I know but see I was so angry at you because I realised...you were totally right. The way we were around each other wasn’t good. Sure it was hot but it wasn’t healthy and the weird thing is I've never been like that around anyone before" Jeonghan admitted. You nodded "me either...I guess we bring it out in each other?". He nodded "yeah we definitely seem to". You sighed "but I don’t want to. It's so tiring hating someone and being angry at them". Jeonghan nodded "I agree but it doesn’t have to be that way right? We can decide to stop it?". You nodded “right?". “Okay so starting today it is a fresh start, there was no car incident, no...us, no terrible meeting in the restaurant. It’s a blank slate”. You smiled “I like the sound of that.
The two of you managed to keep your word and this time around the collaboration was so much better. No arguing or glaring, just hard work and dedication. You and Jeonghan actually talked to one another and had a lot in common. There was already an air of familiarity between you so you found it easy to talk and get to know each other. You were actually starting to become friends. You realised you were very similar, stubborn schemers who thought they knew everything and you found it funny how you’d never noticed that before. You actually looked forward to seeing him at work and soon got a reputation for distracting one another with your joking around.
You were learning the choreo for the end part of the number where you were all on stage together. Jeonghan was on the row in front of you and you had to weave in and out of one another for this section of the dance. The only problem was you were terrible at it and kept elbowing Jeonghan in the stomach. This time you elbowed him in the stomach AND stood on his foot. Jeonghan let out a dramatic cry and pretended to fall to the floor. In response you stepped on his other foot and Jeonghan let out another loud cry making everyone laugh while you insisted he was fine trying to yank him onto his feet. The choreographer was used to this but had the wrong idea. "I know you're dating but stop flirting for one minute and focus" she joked and immediately everyone froze. "Erm no we're not together..." Jeonghan said and you nodded "yeah he's with Bomi and I'm with Joshua". "Ow I just thought because you had so much chemistry and got along...I'm gonna shut up now".
While several of the members laughed it off you and Jeonghan shot away from one another, you couldn't look at each other the rest of the day. Both Bomi and Joshua noticed and they thought it was odd. So they started paying more attention to the two of you and noticed there was something there. Something familiar in the way you interacted. Something that didn’t seem quite like a work relationship. It began to raise questions in both of their heads and suspicions began to form but nothing burst until the night after the performance.
Your second collaboration went incredibly smoothly and to celebrate Seventeen invited your group over to their house to celebrate. You all went and everyone was in pretty high spirits toasting to a job well done. Then the drinking games started and you started playing never have I ever. Some of them were pretty basic never have I ever forgotten a partner’s birthday, lied to another member etc and you were having fun. Especially when people started cheating. Dk had one finger left up but when the question was “never have I ever fallen asleep while eating food” he didn’t drink. This went unnoticed until 3 turns later when Woozi spotted it and they were currently debating if to give Dk another chance or not. You watched amused, thinking you’d gotten away with your own cheating but of course you hadn’t.
"Well considering Y/n lied and didn't drink when you said the tattoo one I think DK should be excused" Jeonghan called and everyone turned to you. "You lied!" Dino asked and you laughed "I...might've just not have drunk and I thought nobody noticed". The group laughed and Dk was very much forgotten in this new turn of events.  Mingyu looked at you "okay so what's the tattoo of?". "The sun" you replied and he smiled "and where is it?". You blushed and everyone began laughing. "Maybe we should change the subject?" Scoups asked and Joshua went to nod when Jeonghan laughed "come on Y/n it's not that bad just tell them". You rolled your eyes at him but nodded "it's on the centre of my back, like right below the shoulder blades". The others all nodded finding nothing weird about it but Joshua did.
"How do you know that?" he asked and the room went quieter. "What?" Jeonghan asked smiling uncertainly but Joshua didn’t smile back "Y/n never shows that tattoo off because she hates it. I didn't even see it until we'd been dating for a few weeks so how do you know she has it?". Jeonghan realised his mistake and he looked at you "I er...she told me about it". "Even though she denies it exists passionately? I'm not buying it, how do you really know". "Joshua..." you tried but he shook his head "no what's going on, is there something the two of you need to tell me". You went to explain when Jeonghan sighed "no Y/n let me...look it's no big deal just me and Y/n hooked up a couple of times".
The whole room's atmosphere changed and everyone was shocked. You didn't know what Joshua had been expecting but it wasn't that. "What!" he cried looking at you "when?". "Ages ago! Before he got together" you told him and Joshua shook his head "how long is ages ago? How long before we got together?". You paused and Joshua repeated himself "how long?". "I called it off two days before our performance" you said quietly and Joshua's eyes widened "two days before...that wasn’t even a year ago! We went on our first date like a week later but neither of you thought to tell me?". "It meant nothing that's why we didn't say!" Jeonghan said "it was just sex but Y/n called it off and we stopped straight away". "Wait...but you asked me out before the performance" Bomi spoke up in a quiet voice that chilled the whole room "were you seeing both of us?". "No!" Jeonghan cried "I promise once I was with you we stopped". "But Y/n said it was two days before the performance, we went out the week before" Bomi said realising something was up. "Well yeah she didn't break it off until then but we never slept together in that week". "But she broke it off, her. Not you, would you have even stopped it if she hadn't?". Jeonghan sighed and decided to be honest "no...I told her to carry on but Y/n said she wouldn't do that to you". Bomi slapped Jeongahn harshly and everyone gasped "we're done!" she cried and rushed from the room. You stood frozen unsure what to do. Someone needed to comfort Bomi but surely you'd be the last person she'd want to see. You were about to go to your leader and ask for her help when Joshua stormed out the other side. You made eye contact with your leader who nodded “go we’ll take Bomi home”. You thanked her and rushed outside. You followed the general direction Joshua had stormed off in and soon found him outside. He was standing staring out into the garden with a dazed expression on his face. “Joshua” you said when you reached him “i’m so sorry you found out that way but you have to know it is ancient history! It was so long ago and nothing happened since I swear”. "Do you feel anything for him?" Joshua asked cutting you off. You paused "what?". "Do you have any feelings for Jeonghan?" he repeated with a gaze so cold it made you freeze.  You blinked "I...I'm dating you! I want you". "That's not what I asked" Joshua said and you looked down "I...it was difficult. I'm still not sure what was going on with Jeonghan but it's over. I just want to move forward please Joshua believe me when I say it’s over". Joshua shook his head sadly "but see I don’t believe you. It’s not over and I can tell by the way you both look at each other. I always just assumed I was being paranoid or misinterpreting it but there is clearly something between you and it’s better than what we have. So I'm sorry Y/n but it’s over".
Joshua walked away but you stayed put. You couldn’t face going back in so you sat on a wall outside and cried. A few minutes later you heard a voice and Jeonghan appeared "Y/n? Are you okay?". You shook your head "no...he broke up with me". "Joshua did?" Jeonghan swore "I'll go after him and tell him it was all me! I won’t ruin this for you". You shook your head "it won’t work, he doesn’t believe me and all the trust is gone...I've ruined it" you sobbed "I had the perfect guy! He was polite, sweet, and kind...he never ever hurt me and he was always so sensitive to my needs. He was attractive and charming and so beautiful but I ruined it". Jeonghan sighed and sat next to you "I'm sorry Y/n" and he wrapped a coat around you. He comforted you while you cried. "For what it's worth Y/n it will get better. I know you're sad now but you won’t feel like this forever and Joshua isn’t the only great guy who will want to worship you". "Because I'm a spoilt princess who needs worshipping?" you could help asking. Jeonghan shook his head "because that's what you do with goddesses. You love, cherish and worship them" he corrected you "it’ll get better I promise" he said hugging you tentatively and you leaned into him.
Once you’d stopped crying you paused "so what happened with Bomi?". "Ow she dumped me straight away". "She didn’t let you explain?". He shook his head "what could I ever say? I wanted to cheat on her and there was no recovering from that. It was clear she wasn’t my priority and I couldn’t lie to her". You paused letting his words sink in "I'm sorry". He shook his head "don’t be...I only ever dated her to make you jealous". You smiled despite everything "finally admitting it?". Jeonghan laughed dryly "yeah might as well". You nodded "I dated Joshua to try and forget you". Jeonghan paused scared if he said anything you’d stop talking and he really wanted you to keep talking.
"After we broke up I just felt so...weird. I wasn’t happy but I was also relieved because I knew we weren’t good for each other. Still that didn’t help the jealousy, I knew you were still with Bomi and she’d tell me about all the things you did for her. How gentle you were with her, how loving you were, how you’d hold her afterwards like she was the most precious thing in the world...it made me mad but also sad. It made me wonder why I wasn’t good enough for that. Why wasn’t I worthy of that treatment. It messed with me and I think that’s what drew me to Joshua. I wasn’t as attracted to him but I wanted a gentleman. Someone who would be kind to me and treat me nicely...that’s why I dated him".
When you’d clearly finished Jeonghan frowned "Y/n i’m so sorry for how I treated you. It was never because you weren’t worthy it was more I was insecure so I treated you badly to make myself feel better". You shrugged "it’s okay I know I encouraged it with how I treated you and responded". "Yes but I still could’ve stopped it and I didn’t so I'm so sorry. I meant what I said earlier. You deserve so much love and care...i should've worshipped you and maybe things would've been different". "Do you wonder that?" you asked. Jeonghan nodded and your eyes widened in surprise “do you think about it often?”. "Almost every day" he replied and that shocked you. "Every day?” you asked and he nodded "you could’ve been the greatest thing that ever happened to me but I let my anger push you away". "But I'm right here" you said softly "I haven’t gone anywhere". Jeonghan looked at you "that's true". You stared up at him and Jeonghan waited for you. He felt his heart hammering and time seemed to take forever but then you moved. Slowly you sat up taller and brought your lips together. You kissed him softly and Jeonghan melted into it. It was the familiar kiss he’d missed but was also so different now after all the time that had passed. He sunk into it and immediately loved it. Then he could taste your tears and that made him upset. He pulled away and kissed your forehead "I want this but we’ve both just been through a lot. Why don’t we wait to see how we both feel after we’ve had time to recover". "Okay" you nodded and he held you softly. You rested against him eyes closed and realised this was the first time you’d properly held one another. It felt nice. After a while you went home and just got a taxi straight there not wanting to go back inside. Jeonghan however lived there so he had to go back inside and the atmosphere was cold. Scoups smiled half-heartedly at him "you okay?'. Jeonghan nodded "where’s Joshua?". "Upstairs". Jeonghan nodded and went up to find him with Dk and Seungkwan. "Hey can I speak to Joshua" he asked. The two looked at Joshua who nodded and they left the room. Jeonghan closed the door "so I want to apologise. There are no excuses for my actions and i was a complete and utter dick. I was selfish and just took what i wanted without thinking of you. You have every right to hate me". Joshua was quiet for a while before he spoke "do you love her?". Jeonghan was shocked at the question "my feelings for Y/n are no excuse for how I acted". "You're right but if you did all this because you're in love with her...well that makes it hurt a little less" Joshua replied. Jeonghan blushed "I don’t know...I’m not sure I even know what that feels like but if I’m going to feel it for anyone I think it’s her" Jeonghan admitted, surprised at how nervous that made him. Joshua seemed satisfied with that and nodded "okay then, things won’t be the same between us and I'll need time to be around you again but I can live with it" and he walked out the room. The next day Jeonghan's first thought was you. He wanted to call you but also wanted to give you space. If you decided not to carry this on he’d respect that. Downstairs things were tense. Joshua was understandably very quiet and wouldn’t even look in his direction. Jeonghan stayed quiet too to show he was sorry and the whole thing had a damp feel. They managed to get through their usual schedule and when it was done everyone began leaving not wanting to stay. You didn’t call him that day or the day after that. He wondered if you’d got back together with Joshua but he didn't hear anything. Jeonghan was upset but more than anything he just wanted you to be happy. Part of him was even a little relieved because this way he definitely couldn’t hurt you anymore. You were safe from him. He hated himself for how he treated you and kept reliving it in his head, wishing he’d treated you differently. A week later he got a text from you. You told him you were still thinking. That you liked him but wanted to make sure you were in a healthier place this time and that you didn't have any feelings left for Joshua. You apologised for taking too long and having such a precarious reply. Jeonghan told you it was fine. He told you to take as much time as you needed and was surprised he meant it.
Jeonghan saw you a month later at an award show and he felt himself sighing without meaning to. Dk smiled beside him "you okay?" and Jeonghan nodded. "Has she spoken to you since?". He shook his head "no so I guess she still needs time or she’s changed her mind". "For the record I think the two of you did the right thing not rushing into anything". Jeonghan nodded "yeah but if I'd have just treated her right in the first place nobody would've got hurt". Dk wrapped an arm around him and sighed "there's nothing you can do to change that but you’ve got your whole future to make it right". Jeonghan nodded “if she lets me”.
Jeonghan wasn’t sure if you’d seen him yet but judging by your reaction he was pretty sure the answer was a no. He’d left the guys to go to the toilet quickly and while walking backstage you appeared coming towards him. You spotted him and stopped dead in your tracks, making your members bang into you. They paused and asked you what was wrong when they spotted Jeonghan. He didn’t know if to turn and run away or walk passed you and was debating the former when you whispered something to your members and walked towards him.
“Hey” you said softly and Jeonghan was momentarily stunned by how good you looked. Of course he knew you were beautiful but he hadn’t seen you in weeks and you looked stunning tonight. “Hi” he replied “how are you?”. “I’m good...how are you?” you asked and Jeonghan nodded “good thank you”. “Can we talk?” you asked him “I know this is an awkward place but I don’t want to wait until later”. Jeonghan nodded “of course!” and heart pounding led you into their empty dressing room. He waited for you to speak and the seconds seemed to turn into hours before you started.
“I’ve been wanting to contact you pretty much since it happened but knew we both needed time to think about this and really think about it. Bomi has forgiven me and I know Joshua’s too kind to hold a grudge but this is still a huge thing to just jump into”. Jeonghan nodded “of course” and prepared himself for the breakup line. He should’ve known better than to assume you’d do what was expected of you.
“But I think you’re worth the gamble” you said and Jeonghan paused “what?”. “I want to try with you...if you still do?” you asked getting suddenly bashful and Jeonghan nodded “of course I still do!” and he wrapped you in a hug. “I haven’t stopped thinking about you for weeks and promising myself that if I got another chance with you I wouldn’t blow and I mean it Y/n. Things are going to be better this time and I’m going to treat you like a....like a...”. “Like a princess?” you asked and Jeonghan laughed “only if you’re happy with me calling you that”. “It’s kind of grown on me” you admitted and kissed him. Jeonghan could feel the passion and chemistry between you both again and it was intoxicating. He let himself revel in the moment and held you closely. He wanted you...but he wanted things to be different even more. "Y/n" he said pulling away softly "i think we should wait to be together again". You looked at him a little shocked "really?". He nodded "not that I don’t want to because God knows how much I want you but I just think we should wait. Slow it down a bit. I'd quite like to take you out to dinner first". You smiled up at him "I like the sound of that, so we'll get dinner first” and you kissed his cheek "text me when you're free and we'll try this dating thing". Jeonghan laughed “I’ll text you as soon as I get back to my phone” and you smiled “cool, so i’ll see you out there”. He nodded “you will” and your smile got even brighter. You waved to him and then disappeared out of the door. Jeonghan sunk in the sofa and let out a happy cry. Dk’s words about the future came back to him and he was determined to make them count. You might’ve had a rocky past but he was going to ensure your future was fit for royalty.
you and spencer were scurrying around in the freshly mown grass of his backyard, playing tag.
“you didn’t get me, you cheated!” you exclaim, ducking as he reaches out to get you again, tumbling to the floor.
“did too!” spencer retorts, his grazed knees dropping to the floor so he can lean over you. he meets your eyes, pulls a tongue, and hoists himself back up to run to his tyre swing.
all 11 years you’d known, you’d known them with spencer. your moms had been great friends since way before you were born, being in the same book club. or was it an art night? you didn’t exactly know, but you did know that because your moms were best friends, so were you and spencer.
as you sprung back up to your feet, your moms watched your antics through the kitchen window.
“whoever can swing the other the highest gets to have the last red popsicle!” he yelled as you ran over
“oh you’re so on!”
your hands gripped the tyre and you pushed like your life depended on it.
“y’know,” your mom said “one day, they’re going to end up together.”
his mom looked over at yours and smiled,
“i’d be surprised if they didnt honestly!”
you walk through the door of your apartment, and you kick the door closed behind you. your bag slides off your shoulder, and you throw your keys onto the dresser next to the door. you only manage a long groan before flopping onto the couch.
“heya, charlie!” you scrunch your face up as you feel your dog’s cold, wet nose press against your cheek, as he gently wags his tail
“i missed you too boy, work was so tiring today.” you work at smosh with spencer, and have done for the past seven years after you left your job at another channel to join him. it was basically the best decision you’d ever made, every day filled with laughs; practically just a 24/7 hangout. you work with spencer on smosh games, but rarely ever go on camera, even if spencer’s there. you enjoy it anyway though.
you sit up and scratch behind his ears. he wiggles his body contently at your fondness. and then your stomach growls. it made sense, it was currently 6:43pm, and you last ate at noon, so you get up and drag yourself to make some mac n cheese.
as the pasta boils your phone starts ringing.
its james.
rubbing your hands over your face, you answer the dreaded call from your boyfriend james.
“heyyy~ sweetheart, y’doin okay? you were hic bein’ a bit of a bitch today, didnt answe my calls, what, you hate me or sumn?” he rambles, most of his words just slurring off.
“james, are you drinking again?” your voice is agitated, hearing the chattering and low bass of a bar in the background.
you know he has a problem, and you’ve tried to get him to stop so many times. but you just can’t. he just won’t take your help.
“wha- i mean- well- no- but um- well y’r just gonna be mad at me like y’allways are” he stammers, not wanting to tell you the truth.
“no, i’m done with this. you say all this to me when you’re drunk, and then act like everything is fine! i’m sick of it! you spend so much time at the bar, and its the only place we ever go on dates, and i just end up babysitting! so yeah i am mad! but for the last time! fuck you james.”
you hang up.
you start to tear up, the knot in your chest tight as your emotions come rushing to you, face heating up as tears begin to fall. the hissing of something behind you snaps you out of it.
“shit!” you rush over to to your stove, where the water from your pasta spills over the sides, the flames licking at the bottom of the pan.you take it off the heat and turn it off. it looks done anyway. you add some butter, and, of course, cheese. stirring gently, you sob.
james was so nice to you, always showering you with gifts and praise and love. but it was all for nothing. he just didn’t love you like he loved drinking in the end.
pouring the mac n cheese into a bowl, you call spencer.
“hey lemon! how’s my favourite person this fine evening?” you smile at the nickname.
florida, 2007
“spencer, you’re a boy. why are you so complicated? i mean, its just annoying!” you walk into his bedroom after his mom let you in, clearly pissed off. being 16 isn’t fun, especially when boys you like are rude to you.
“what did he do?” spencer doesn’t look up from his computer, just slightly turn his head.
“he said that i must eat lemons because of how bitter i am. i mean come on!” you lie on his bed and watch him play runescape.
“lemon… hmph” he just smiles and continues whatever he was doing on his game.
“what? nothing to say? ugh! you suuuuuck!”
los angeles, 2024
“yeah, i mean, no. i broke up with james.” you sniffle, and eat a forkfull of your food, elbows resting on the cold marble of the kitchen island.
“i mean- um- yeah thats horrible…” he says
“you’re allowed to celebrate, i know you hated him. and so did everyone. but still. im fragile right now!” you giggle through your gentle tears
“well, i mean, honestly? glad he’s gone. he sucked dude. not sure why you didn’t do it sooner. well, one positive to come of this, your pillows won’t stink of beer next time i nap at yours!” he replies, clearly happy for you.
“yeah, you chuckle at the memory of spencer falling asleep on your bed, then completing his hair smelt like budweiser “that is true.”
“all seriousness though, are you okay?” his voice is genuine this time, filled with concern.
“no, not really. it’s just… different i guess. but, not much has changed y’know? like, it already felt like he wasn’t my boyfriend anymore…” you begin to ramble for at least 20 minutes, only to be met with the occasional ‘mhmn’ and ‘yeah’ from spencer. mid sentence, there’s a knock at your door.
“oh one sec, someone’s here.” you get up from your table and swing the door open to see a very sympathetic looking spencer, two target bags in his hands.
your jaw is on the floor. you were just crying to him over the phone, and he’d stayed whilst going out to get what you can only assume is things like sour patch kids and vanilla ice cream, which you could see at the top of the bag. your favourites.
“girls night?” he smirked and raised the bags at his sides.
all you can do is smile ear to ear, and wrap him in a tight hug. he leaned into you, basking in your sweet citrusy perfume.
“you’re my favourite, spencie.” you say into his shoulder.
as you both walk inside, charlie comes bounding over to spencer, his favourite person.
“who’s a good boy! charlie is!” spencer was now crouchedby your kitchen island, fussing over your dog as you walked to put on something more comfortable. you slid on some track pants and an old atari hoodie. walking back into your kitchen, spencer has unpacked the bags, and is creating his favourite conconction, The Agnew Sundae. basically the most sickeningly sweet ice cream ever. his dad made it for you both in the summer, and it consisted of:
vanilla ice cream
chocolate syrup
caramel sauce
whipped cream
sprinkles
mini marshmallows
chocolate chips
m&ms
and some crushed oreos to finish.
god, you know you’re going to regret this later, but boy was it a good way to cheer you up.
also strewn on the counter was his switch and copy of animal crossing, a few of his dvd’s for you to watch, and his mom’s chocolate chip cookies.
“spencer, how on earth did you get these? your mom lives across the country!” you hold up the baggie, and raise an eyebrow.
he looks up from his ice cream assembly station, and smirks.
“a magician never- ow!”
you cut him off by lightly jabbing his arm
“okay okay, she visited not to long ago - when she took you to the mall? and she gave me these to freeze and keep for an important event. i think she’d agree this is important.” you cant help but smile at his remark. you missed you moms.
“i’ll have to ring her later to thank her.” you say.
the night goes on, and you and spencer sit on the couch under a blanket watching barbie princess charm school. because what else are you going to watch?
as the movie goes on, and the effects of the agnew sundae kick in; you were dozing off on his shoulder. towards the end of the movie, so does he. he drifts off, comforted by your soft hair occasionally brushing against his face.
you stir awake, the sun beaming into your eyes through your semi-open blinds, and you’re hit by a wave of memory. everything that happened last night comes flooding back.
james’ call.
spencer’s call.
spencer showing up for you.
at the latter, you smile slightly. you prop yourself up on the sofa, and notice the absence of spencer’s warmth by you. frowning slightly, you walk into the kitchen.
“morning sleepyhead” his sweet voice rings through the room
“hey. i thought you’d’ve gone home”
“no, im not that mean! who do you take me for?” he retorts, his attention turning back to the pancakes on the stove.
“pancakes? what time is it?” you come up behind him, putting your chin on his shoulder.
“yeah, and it’s about 10:30.” he leant his head on yours, flipping one. you had to admit, they look pretty good.
“10:30!?” you lift you head in surprise, looking at your phone “shouldn’t we be in work?”
“nope, i called us in sick. said my mom was having surgery. which she is, but i made it sound dramatic so we could stay off.” he looks at you, and smiles slightly.
“well, send her my love! i think i’ll go get dressed now.” he hummed, and you left the room.
opening your closet, you pick out a yellow baggy t-shirt and some grey sweatpants. you pull on some fluffy socks, and slip on a zip up hoodie. walking back out into the living room, spencer walks in with two plates piled high with pancakes, drenched in syrup and strawberries
“so,” you say, a fork full of pancakes in your mouth. “whats the plan for today?”
he looks over at you, and shrugs slightly. “not sure, we could go to the book store you like?”
“ah, you know the way to a girl’s heart“ you put a hand over your chest and giggle a bit.
a few hours later, you walk into the store, door creaking just a bit as a small brass bell chimes overhead. the air is filled with a comforting mix of old paper, leather bindings, and a hint of freshly brewed coffee from the corner cafe that you and spencer like to get tea from. you breathe it in deeply, a sense of calm washing over you. as you walk over the creaky wooden floorboards beneath you, soft warm light filters down from antique lamps, and cast a gentle glow over the rows of books. you ghost your fingertips over the cloth spines while the quiet murmur of whispered conversations and the occasional rustling of pages create a soothing background noise, almost like a lullaby. through spencer’s airpods, syd barrett serenades you both, and his voice blends seamlessly with the ambiance of the store.
“anything good today lemon?” spencer says as he shimmies up next to you in the aisle of towering book shelves, his voice like honey rolling off his tongue. his hair was unruly as always, but he looked so pretty in this light. his face was littered with freckles that you wish you could kiss. he’s smiling at you, and it snaps you back to reality, and reminds you of the fact you’re staring at him
“uh, yeah, i think i’ll get this one” you smile back, holding up a copy of memoirs of a geisha by arthur golden
“cool, shayne likes that one i think. but he likes every book so…” he smiles at his own remark “um, you want me to grab our normal seats in the cafe while you pay for that?”
“yes, please!” you reply eagerly, smiling as he walked off.
you walk up to the cashier, an older lady who always gives you a bookmark.
“thank you m’darlin’, have a lovely day!”
“you too mrs bryson!” you reply, heading over to spencer who’s sat in some plush leather armchairs. as you sit in comfortable silence with him, time seems to slow down, and for a moment, it's just you, spencer, the books, and the comforting atmosphere of this charming bookstore.
“i got you your sweet tea.” he says, handing you a plastic cup filled with your favourite tea.
he remembered.
fuck.
you were in love with spencer agnew, and it took you him handing you your favourite tea to realise it.
“thanks spence.” you say, still grasping the feelings in your chest.
while you read you book and drink your tea, you feel your attention drifting to him. you can't help but glance up from the pages every now and then, watching him as he sits across from you, his focus on his own book. his fingers absently tracing the rim of his coffee mug, his brow furrowing as he reads. the way the sunlight filters through the small window, casting a warm glow across his hair, highlighting the subtle streaks of lighter brown among his dark curls. you find yourself smiling at the sight of him, wondering when these small, mundane moments began to mean so much to you. the bookstore is quiet, aside for the murmur of others reading or talking in hushed tones. yet, with spencer sitting just a few feet away, the world feels like it's faded to the background. it's just you and him, sharing this space, this moment. you watch the way his lips move slightly as he reads, how he occasionally tilts his head in concentration, and the way his eyes light up when he finds something particularly interesting. as he looks up and catches you watching him, you feel a rush of warmth spreading through your chest. he smiles at you, a slow, easy smile that makes your heart skip a beat. he raises an eyebrow, and you quickly look back down at your book, feeling your cheeks flush. but you can't help it; your gaze finds its way back to him, like he's the most interesting story in the room. he seems to notice the shift in the air between you. he closes his book and leans forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees.
“everything okay?” he asks, his voice gentle, his eyes filled with genuine curiosity.
“yeah,” you reply, trying to sound casual, though your heart is racing. “just... glad to be here with you.”
he nods, his smile growing a bit wider. “me too.”
as he settles back into his chair, you realize that this simple exchange has changed something. the air feels lighter, the connection between you stronger. you may have come here to read and relax, but now, sitting across from spencer, you know you've found something else entirely - something you never want to let go of.
as you leave the store, you’re panicking slightly as you realise you don’t know what to do. so instead you make up an excuse.
“i forgot my keys ," you blurt out, looking back at the bookstore. it's a thin excuse, but spencer doesn't seem to notice. he simply nods, a hint of concern in his eyes.
"do you want me to wait for you?" he asks, already reaching for his phone to check the time.
"no, it's fine," you reply quickly. "you can go ahead. i’ll just be a minute."
spencer seems reluctant to leave, but he nods, offering a warm smile before stepping out onto the street. you watch him walk away, his figure blending into the crowd as he heads toward the main crossing. your heart sinks a little as he disappears from view, and you take a deep breath, trying to steady your racing pulse.
the bookstore feels different now. the warm glow and soft murmurs are still there, but without spencer, it's like the color has faded a bit. you stand by the door, uncertain of what to do next. you could go back outside, catch up with him, and just say it. tell him how you feel. but the words seem stuck in your throat, and the thought of laying your feelings bare feels like too much, too soon.
you step back inside, pretending to look for something you might have left behind. the stacks of books seem to stretch endlessly in front of you, a maze of comforting distractions. you wander through the aisles, hoping to calm your racing thoughts, but all you can think about is spencer - his smile, the way his eyes crinkle when he laughs, the warmth of his voice.
eventually, you find a quiet corner and sit down, closing your eyes for a moment. you know you have to do something. you can't just let him walk away without knowing how much he means to you. but the fear of rejection, of changing everything, feels overwhelming.
you realize you need time to sort through your feelings, to figure out the best way to approach this. with a heavy heart, you decide to make your way home, hoping the familiar surroundings will bring clarity. as you step out onto the street, the cool breeze brushes against your skin, and you take a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions raging inside you.
on the journey home, you replay the moments with spencer in your mind, each one a bittersweet reminder of how much he means to you. you know you can't keep hiding your feelings, but you also know you need to approach this with caution. as you unlock the door to your apartment, you make a silent promise to yourself—to take the time you need, to listen to your heart, and to find the courage to follow where it leads, even if it means risking everything for him.
when you get home, spencer tries calling you as he paces around his bedroom, his phone pressed against his ear. the ringing continues, but there's no answer. he frowns, feeling an uneasy twist in his stomach. maybe you're still in the bookstore. maybe your phone is on silent, or maybe you're just busy. he tells himself there's a reasonable explanation, but the doubt lingers.
as he walks to his kitchen, he dials again. this time, the call goes straight to voicemail. his instincts tell him something isn't right. the keys excuse felt odd, and your hurried departure only amplifies his worry. he takes a moment to think, then leaves his apartment, jumps in his car, starts the engine, and drives toward your apartment.
the streets pass in a blur as he navigates through the evening traffic, his mind racing with possibilities. he finds a parking spot near your building and heads to your door. the hallway is quiet, save for the distant sound of a tv from a neighbouring apartment. he takes a deep breath and knocks.
nothing.
he knocks again, this time a little louder. the knot in his stomach tightens. what if something's wrong? what if he's too late? he knocks a third time, and this time, he hears a faint rustling from inside. the door opens slowly, and there you are, standing in the doorway with a look of surprise and confusion.
"spence?" you say, blinking at him as if he's the last person you expected to see.
"i - i was worried," he stammers, rubbing the back of his neck. "you didn't answer your phone, and i - i didn't know if you were okay."
you tilt your head, trying to process why he's here. his eyes search yours, and you can tell he's anxious, almost desperate to explain himself. "i'm fine," you say, "just had some stuff to think about."
he nods, but you can see he's not entirely convinced. there's something else, something deeper. he takes a step back, as if he's about to leave, but then he hesitates. "i - i have to tell you something," he blurts out, his words coming out in a rush. "i like you. like a lot. like i think i love you? and i know it might be weird, and i don't want to mess things up, but I just had to say it - because i couldn't keep it to myself anymore.”
he looks at you, his eyes full of emotions you can't quite decipher yet. you nod, urging him to continue, even though your own heart is racing. there's something in his gaze that makes you realize this isn't just any confession - this is something that's been building for a long time.
"i've liked you since we were kids," he says, almost breathlessly. "i mean, you were always the coolest person I knew. you didn't care what anyone else thought. you were smart and funny and just... so genuinely kind. i remember when we used to ride our bikes around the neighbourhood, and you'd always be the first one to try something new. like, remember when you climbed that huge tree in mr lawson's yard just because you wanted to see the view from the top? i thought you were so brave."
he chuckles softly, his gaze softening as he reminisces. "and then, when we got older, you were always there for me. when my parents split up, and i felt like everything was falling apart, you were the one who came over with a pizza and just listened. you didn't try to fix it; you just let me talk. that's something i've always loved about you. you're a great listener, and you care about people. like, really care."
he shifts his weight from one foot to the other, his eyes locking with yours. "it's not just that, though. It's the little things, too. the way you laugh at the dumbest of angela’s jokes, the way you get excited about your favorite books, and how you always know the right thing to say when I'm feeling down. you make everything feel... lighter, you know? like, even when things are tough, you find a way to make it better."
spencer pauses, his voice growing more earnest. "so yeah, i've um, been holding onto this for a while, and i just, couldn't keep pretending that i didn't feel this way. i like you - a lot. and i don't know if you feel the same way, but i just couldn't not tell you anymore."
he takes a step back, the tension in his shoulders indicating that he's prepared to leave if needed. "i don't want to make things weird between us. if you don't feel the same, that's okay. i just had to say it, because you're the best thing in my life, and i can't keep acting like you aren't."
his confession takes you by surprise, but as he speaks, you feel a surge of warmth in your chest. the words you were struggling to say are suddenly so clear, so obvious. you watch as he starts to turn away, his shoulders slumping in resignation. before he can take another step, you grab his arm and pull him back, your lips pressing against his in a gentle, yet desperate kiss.
he freezes for a moment, stunned by your sudden action, then his arms wrap around you, pulling you close. when you finally break the kiss, you look into his eyes, and there's no doubt, no hesitation.
"it's always been you," you whisper, your voice soft but sure. "you're my person, spencer."
he hugs you tightly, his grip firm and comforting, as if he's afraid you'll disappear if he lets go. you rest your head on his shoulder, feeling the steady beat of his heart against your cheek. it's a perfect moment, one that feels like the beginning of something new, something beautiful.
and as you stand there in each other's embrace, you know that everything's going to be okay, because you have each other. and that's all that matters.
