one thing i cant get down with irt kaeya and diluc brother stuff is, not the fact that theyre brothers, but the fact that kaeya being a poc adopted into a white family isn't often explored. a lot is just kaeya being omg yay new family and immediately ditching old customs for mondstadts and Tbh i think it does his character a disservice when so much of him is abt his conflicting loyalties between khaenriah and mondstadt

sorry i really dislike when people say that Kaeya's biological father was an abusive asshole or whatever, it's clear as day that the decision of him leaving Kaeya in Mondstadt was not an easy one, you can feel the pain and regret in his voice on the Weinlesefest event, and he wouldn't have done it if he had any other choice.

✨️Team Dynamics ✨️
Tired Cyro Dads 5/8
One day Kaeya and Klee go into the Fortress with Wrio for a tour, and Kaeya nearly has a fucking stroke trying to keep Klee from accidentally blowing the place up.
He doesn’t know how Albedo does it half the time--sure he does live on Dragonspine so if Klee blows something up it’s not like there’s anyone around that would be hurt
…unless we count poor Mika who has to remake the maps anytime Klee’s explosions change the landscape
Kaeya may look calm and cool all of the time, but internally he’s freaking the fuck out. His blood pressure has never been higher and honestly, if there wasn’t a child around, he’d have a drink on him.
He feels trapped down there, and that’s on childhood trauma
Wrio is having a blast, pun fully intended, during the tour, making some dry jokes here and there about the structure integrity
“oh I heard it’s raining on the surface, now if we feel rain down here that’s not a good sign :)”
He definitely somehow drips water on Kaeya’s head after Klee bonks into something a little too hard and absolutely loses his shit when Kaeya screeches and jumps several feet in the air
Cue a confused Klee, who has no idea what’s going on, but Wrio says it’s okay and he’s the best! So she trusts it’s okay, she’s not sure why Kaeya is on the floor though…
It’s alright, she gives him Dodoco to hold onto for safe keeping, which does help ease his mind slightly
(mostly because he’s not entirely sure if Dodoco is a stuffed animal or a bomb….knowing Alice it could be either)
They both like to mess with people for shits and giggles. It helps the day go by, you know

Given the Alberich Clan’s whole deal of “lead lives as those who blaze like fire, rather than those who wallow in the embers” and all of the other weird connections between Kaeya’s past/Khaenriah and fire, it’s really funny that Kaeya ended up with a Cryo vision.

You've heard of 'people can't handle liking flawed characters and so they woobify them'. Now get ready for 'people try so hard not to be in the first category that they vilify them/make characters worse than they actually are in the name of nuance'.
#this is about many characters but rn it's mainly about five hargreeves#babygirl I've stanned more problematic characters than you can comprehend#and five has a shitton of flaws and has done loads of bad stuff#he's an asshole#but he's also not nearly as much of an asshole as a lot of you make him out to be???#he can be insensitive but no more than any other character#and usually in dire situations (like he was an asshole to viktor about leaving sissy but they were on a time limit??? and he was-#-actually pretty understanding after their argument??)#he comforts allison in s1? he's understanding to luther? he berates lila about diego? he immediately goes with klaus on the road trip?#he doesn't tell viktor that he caused the apocalypse#a bunch of other stuff I can't remember rn#other characters this is about include utena tenjou#love love love anthy but some people try to put the blame on utena for forcing her perceptions on anthy#and put it on the same level as anthy manipulating lying betraying stabbing etc utena#will byers is a much lesser degree but yeah people try to make him. more flawed in everything that happened (the rain fight and rinkomania#fight mostly)#that boy didn't do anything wrong in either and that's okay#kaeya in that genshin rain fight also counts#unless he was actually goading/intending to make diluc angry and upset what did that boy do wrong??? bad timing to confide your secrets#but so what if he did???#since a bunch of stuff is still pretty ambiguous i won't talk to much about#mostly talking about the fanon perception of the fight#but yeah#sometimes characters are just assholes and sometimes they're not assholes and it's okay either way

Wanderer, I swear to god i’m pulling her for the Mora discount.
No, no, listen to me.
Listen. To. Me.
You know how much Mora I saved on your passive? I was able to upgrade both you and Kaeya to Level 8 at once.
I’m sure you notice it. You hit 12k every damn time.
So, please.
Just…stop it.
Stop it. Stop interfering. You won’t change my mind.
Or i’ll be forced to throw you off this tree over and over again.

-rooftop of the knights of favonius building-
Kaeya: ... *looking at the stars*
Diluc: *climbing up the side of the rooftop*
Kaeya: ...well, if it isn't-
Diluc: *hugs Kaeya* just- shut up for a minute.
Kaeya: ... ... ... *hugs back*
Diluc: it's- it's just- one of these days-
Kaeya: it's okay.

kicks down the door  i WANT dainsleif & kaeya conflict that’s so complex they’re grasping at each other knowing they’ll tear like wet fucking tissue paper. kaeya the would-have-been prince of a kingdom long lost, a loss accepted by dain - & yet, kaeya as a symbol of some far-fetched rebirth. even though it will never be real--an acceptance so fully come to terms with, made peace with, that it makes of an idea some gentle soothe.                     never real because kaeya will absolutely                         never tolerate being used for that purpose. dainsleif, perhaps expecting the delusional puppet of the alberich clan — & kaeya, expecting as always to be doomed by any connection to his home country. any recognition by it. the biting, snarling conflict clad in a composure so controlled it will ache at the seams as they see in each other all the things they fear most, at least where related to khaenri’ah.
kaeya who wants nothing & yet everything; greedy for the light that flickers so rarely in dainsleif’s eyes - their weight upon him a thing not so difficult to dissect when the foundation of his response is well known. there’s no better way to get to know a man than to know him where he breaks.         kaeya, terrified. dainsleif, horrified.
& each the only place where that can be wholly understood.

I think it would be really hard to make Kaeya cry
So I think if somebody managed to do that I believe 100% Diluc would go head hunting

Some people: Kaeya’s bio father is an abusive monster who abandoned his son in order to achieve his own selfish goals. He is an evil man who deserves everything awful that might happen to him.
Other people: Kaeya’s bio father did the right thing and leaving Kaeya in Mondstadt was the only way to give him a halfway-decent life. He is a better father than he is given credit for and should not be as hated as he is.
Me: Kaeya’s bio father is integral to the general ‘war is hell and bad choices can reverberate across time’ thing that Genshin seems to be going for. He made unethical choices, but mostly because the ONLY OPTIONS HE HAD WERE UNETHICAL. If our understanding of the Alberich’s role in Khaenri’ah is accurate, General Alberich (my name for him until stated otherwise) was suddenly in charge of a hopeless and dead kingdom which begged to be saved. Assuming that there was a reason Kaeya specifically was chosen for this mission, General Alberich was forced into a position where he needed to choose between the lives/future of every Khaenri’an vs the life and future of his young son. Abandoning either is an awful thing to do and a horrible decision, but the bad decisions of Celestia and Rhinedottir have led to a scenario where General Alberich can only make bad decisions. In the end, he chose to prioritize his people and made his young son into a spy. We do not know the process for this, but knowing how much Hoyoverse loves to torment people (especially Khaenri’ans) we can assume that this process was horrific for Kaeya and could definitely be considered abuse. General Alberich is effectively making his son into a child soldier for a war that the majority of people never wanted or asked for, and one Kaeya was likely far too young to understand. At least, until he was forced to grow up far too quickly in order to fulfill his duty. General Alberich likely loathed everything about what was happening and even in his last moments with his son he asks for forgiveness. He knows that what he is doing is wrong, but to turn back now is to both abandon his subjects and make everything that happened to Kaeya in order to turn him into a child spy be for nothing. So yeah, General Alberich is a terrible person who made horrible choices. But war and the bad actions of others have created a situation where he has nothing BUT horrible choices and where being a terrible person is the only thing he can be. And that’s without considering how the curse/abyssal corruption could impact the scenario.
#idk#I just think that Kaeya's father is kinda an Asgore situation#where the only decisions he could possibly make were awful and unethical ones but choosing neither would create an even worse outcome#also I want to clarify that both of the other interpretations that I parroted before giving my own thoughts are valid#because we are working with such limited information and yeah no shit people are gonna have differing thoughts#people have differing beliefs and perspectives on things which are CANONICALLY CONFIRMED to be clear situations with lots of info about it#so of course people are going to go in like 80 different directions with his character#BECAUSE WE HAVE NEXT TO NOTHING TO GO OFF OF#and basically every interpretation of him I've seen is pretty reasonable#Like yeah man's son is a child spy who was abandoned in a far away country for the purpose of being a spy for Khaenri'ah's interests#thinking that he was an abusive asshole isn't exactly unreasonable#nor is it unreasonable to believe that he was actually a decent man who left his son in Mondstadt as the 'only hope' of Khaenri'ah#because he just wanted Kaeya to live on and have a life outside of the Abyss#and Kaeya was mistaken when he thought he was simply being left behind as a pawn#Genshin is no stranger to unreliable narrators and this wouldn't be the first time a character story wildly mischaracterizes something#so like...both of those interpretations are valid#and pretty fair ones as well#But I think that it really is like an Asgore situation where yeah this guy sucks and he is an awful person who made so many bad choices#But also was left with nothing BUT bad choices through war and grief and other factors that were genuinely outside of his control#Sacrifice your son's childhood and happiness by forcing him to be a child spy and abandoning him in the middle of a deadly storm#or let your people (including yourself) rot away into nothingness while facing a fate worse than death while they all but scream to be saved#there are no good options#kaeya's father#don't take this too seriously I just really liked Undertale when I was younger and I'm getting Asgore vibes from General Alberich

I wanna ramble about Kaeya + relationships for a sec so here we go.
It’s no secret that the Knights of Favonius’ Cavalry Captain is a bit of a flirt. Everything about the way he carries himself says he enjoys being a tease from his lilted tone and charming words to the very way he saunters into any space like he’s meant to be the center of attention BUT, at the end of the day, Kaeya’s never been romantically involved with anyone. After the most important bond in his life was severed and seemingly permanently soured with the reveal of his true identity, Kaeya came to the very real and devastating but ultimately unsurprising conclusion he’s not a man who gets to have a happy ending so he’s always found there’s no use in trying.
Most of his personality is quite fake these days. It’s not that he’s unkind when he does genuinely care for others and the safety of all in Mondstadt, but beneath his smiles and devil-may-care attitude he’s deeply sad and lonely and feels like that’s all he’ll ever be when he fears letting anyone else know his true origin or the mission he was sent on by his kin.
There’s a part of him deep, deep down that is desperate for love and acceptance. A part that desires to be trusted and wanted and feel the warmth of a tender embrace that could thaw the thick layer of ice he’s had to build up around his heart, but it’s only in the dead of night after far too many glasses of wine he lets himself even begin to consider the thought. After all, there’s no way he can feel known if he does everything in his power to hide himself behind a carefully crafted facade he fears there may not actually be anything underneath.
