Johnny Cash // Folsom Prison Blues (Live at Folsom State Prison, Folsom, CA - January 1968)
Well if they freed me from this prison
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line
Far from Folsom Prison, that's where I want to stay
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away

"When I was just a baby, my mama told me, ”Son
Always be a good boy, don’t ever play with guns”
But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowin’, I hang my head and cry"
Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues"

Album time. Last time left off on Nirvana, so picking up from there is Apple Venus Volume 1 by XTC. I really enjoyed the last XTC album I got, but this one was faded from my memory entirely. I gave it a 3/5, and that seems right for something I was able to forget that easily.
Then we have L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods. I didn't know I need a French metal album in my life, but this fucking slaps. You should listen to it. The website has this at an average rating of 2.34/5, and frankly fuck that this album is good. 4/5.
Next was Talking Book by Stevie Wonder. Now, this album started by whammying me with Walgreens PTSD with "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", but also has "Superstition" on it and is generally great. So, we'll say one point off for the trauma bomb for a 4/5.
Next up, Highway to Hell by AC/DC. And like, yeah no shit it's good. AC/DC fucking rules. 5/5.
Then was Live / Dead by The Grateful Dead. It's very boring. Painfully boring. If I had died of boredom listening to this, I would have in fact been grateful. 2/5.
After that, Talk Talk Talk by The Psychadelic Furs. This was cool but not super remarkable. If you like indie rock stuff, give it a look but I didn't love it. 3/5
At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. I liked the San Quentin prison album better, but this is still really good. Listen to both. 4/5 on this. (San Quentin was a 5/5 to me, if you're curious.)
Phrenology by The Roots. This one didn't stick well in my brain, but at least I remember liking it. 4/5
Okay. Listen. I've determined I really don't like David Bowie that much, or this album The Next Day. I'm sorry. He's ridiculously good when he's good, but his music just doesn't land for me usually. Plus side, unlike a lot of his albums this one doesn't end on a meandering 20 minutes of instrumentals. This may be a downside if you like those songs way more than I do, though. 3/5
Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout. This album was actually a ton of fun. Just some good rock and roll that I'm guessing you probably haven't already heard. 5/5
Faust IV by Faust. It's boring. 3/5
Vanishing Point by Primal Scream. It sounds like the background track to a 90s action movie's obligatory club scene. If that sounds good to you, you should ABSOLUTELY listen to this. If not, skip it. 3/5
So Much For the City by The Thrills. It's EXTREMELY boring. 2/5
And today we have Whatever by Aimee Mann. It's pretty good. Had a couple songs I enjoyed a bunch, "Fifty Years After The Fair" and "Say Anything." It's very 90s. 4/5

I bet there's rich folks eatin' in a fancy dining car They're probably drinkin' coffee and smoking big cigars Well, I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free But those people keep a-movin', and that's what tortures me

Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison
Johnny Cash – At Folsom Prison
