my future will listen to me
Summary: Alysannyra meets her patron goddess, Lyssa, at long last. Content warnings: None Spoilers: HoT & LWS3 Note: My piece for the @gw2-zine! Go check out the world of my lovely collaborators, and go follow the zine blog! Happy zine release day!
Everyone’s dressed the same, in the same white robe. It’s designed so that it’ll never be worn outside of the ceremony and outside of this one moment in a child’s life, which makes the fine silver embroidery on it that much more meaningful. Alysannyra cannot fathom how it was made - they’d just taken her measurements one day and three weeks later, this gown appeared on their door. She doesn’t even try. Instead, she wears it with as much pride as she can, not knowing where her blessings lie yet. She wears her hair down like everyone else and she tries to not hate how it blends her in with a whole generation of eight-year olds in the watchful eyes of the high society of Divinity’s Reach.
There are two children before her. She can feel the stares of the proud parents in the shadows of the grand church. She can’t turn, not now, because the question she needs to answer can’t be found in their expectant and somber silence. Murals cast a green light on the pale hair of a boy next to her, but he doesn’t seem unsure. Nervous, maybe, but not unsure.
Anyone would be nervous in the presence of gods. Their statues cast large shadows in their absence. And the children are to kneel before the one whose gifts they have and go into their church’s fold. It’s no small task, but if Alysannyra knows anything, it’s that she can’t cower under the burden of it. So she stands with her back straight, in a white robe that tickles her ankles from the early morning breeze, and she doesn’t turn to her family.
Instead, she looks between Lyssa and Balthazar, trying to chase where the feeling in her heart is leading her. So far, the pull’s stronger with Lyssa, but Nyra doesn’t have magic. She isn’t worried. She’s only eight; nobody has magic yet. But some have a better idea of what it might be than others. A child walks over to kneel before Melandru. A priest accepts the handle they’d been carrying and places it by Her feet. Green magic swirls around them and it’s done.
A clicking sound of hundreds of little heels echoes against the stone floor as they all make one step forward.
A choice has to be made, and soon. Alysannyra carries her head high, taller than most other kids already, and stares at Lyssa’s graceful form in the center of the Six. Pinks and purples of the vitrage behind her twin forms cast an inviting light that seems to twist and bend in strange shapes, as if to spite the harmony that doesn’t seem perturbed by them. Balthazar’s helmet feels comfortable; Alysannyra, too, will one day wear a helmet, as a member of the Seraph. Its weight feels irrelevant, necessary, part of the regalia as much as the white robe is. She can almost feel the pressure of the hot metal in her bare hands and she feels the war call to her.
The blonde-haired boy steps forward and steadily walks towards Grenth. He offers the candle, if a little clumsily, and kneels as an unsettling magic twirls around him. Alysannyra watches when his eyes widen just slightly, feeling the magic on his skin, and that is done, too. He is now a member of the Church of Grenth, potential necromancer in the making. He moves away with that knowledge, and now it’s Alysannyra’s turn.
She doesn’t move quite yet. The limited time she had to choose wasn’t enough, but she can’t ruin this. Her family’s reputation, at least for a season, is at stake, and that little feeling in her chest that burns every time someone calls her Lady Ainsaph, too. She takes a deep breath, looks once more, stares into the eyes of the statues, and turns right. She is a daughter of Ascalon, a daughter of war, and Balthazar would be fitting.
She lifts one foot off the ground when something in her gut screams no. She holds her head high as she suddenly turns left and walks down to where Lyssa is, candle in hand. Clamor of the people is silenced by the determined clicking of her heels, but she feels at peace.
Come, daughter, the statue seems to say. Part of her knows this will make people talk, but in a strange way, she looks forward to it. She looks forward to the chaos a slight movement of feet will cause, and lifts her head even higher.
And when she finally kneels and feels the magic seep into her skin, Alysannyra knows she’s made the right choice. Let them talk, let them gawk.
At least she’s not just a simple Lady Ainsaph anymore, even if the rebellion is as small as this.
II
Lyssa’s Reliquary is a fucking maze. Shelves of stone that house both man and monster shaped horrors would be enough to disorient most people, and such feeling is only made worse by the little portals that pop up like zits in the most random fucking places. Nyra hates them the most, even though she’s trying to stay level headed in the face of illusions that remind her of all the bad things she’s done and all the blood on her hands.
But portals don’t disorient her. The chaos of the reliquary only bothered her for mere seconds before she found the rhythm in this place and she’s been riding it ever since. Renira tries to keep up, visibly struggling. Nyra traverses the sacred space like she was born to do it, and maybe she was. Maybe at birth, Lyssa watched from wherever She is now and pointed Her clawed hand (because in Nyra’s mind, Lyssa’s hands have always been clawed) in her direction so she could pass through Her reliquary once she grew up.
It’s a comforting thought, in a way. It’s the only comfort she has when she slices through a tortured, gruesome vision of Apatia, dead by Nyra’s own hand. It’s the sole thing keeping her sane when she falls through yet another portal to escape the grasp of an illusory Mordrem Trahearne.
“Where to now? How do we get down?” Renira shouts, wiping sweat off her brow. She swallows when she looks down at the ground below, but it’s the only sign of distress she offers. Nyra’s getting just slightly better at reading her. Or maybe she just lets Nyra see. Her eyes, golden like a cat’s in the stifling, dark chaos around them, don’t betray anything but a grim determination.
“I think I know the way down,” Nyra says. “It won’t end with us falling to our deaths, hopefully. I’m getting quite a feel for this place.”
“Of course you are,” Renira replies. “You’re about as chaotic as this reliquary is.” She gives a small smile. “It suits you, after all.”
“Ever the charmer, Sulver,” Nyra shakes her head. In another life, they might have developed a romance following their brief hookup in Ebonhawke years ago, and the thought of exploring this place with a lover sounds romantic until she remembers she killed her actual lover in Maguuma. Now, it's a flaring ache that makes her look away in shame.
“You’re alright, Nyra,” Renira says, strangely gentle. She places a gloved hand on Nyra’s shoulder and though she can’t feel the comfort, she feels undeserving of such sentiment. She’s never really emoted well, but she supposes a lifetime of spying on people makes it easy to identify emotions, regardless of expression or lack thereof.
Nyra shakes her hand off. “Let’s go,” she says. Renira simply nods.
But before they can make a single step, a big voice booms in the wind. “That is, in fact, the correct way, Alysannyra Ainsaf! It’s taken you a lot less time than I’d anticipated, too.”
Nyra’s heart sinks to her feet. She doesn’t need to see to know who it is - the goddess Herself, as much in the flesh as they come these days, and She sounds more than a little smug about it all.
It takes her a moment to find her voice. “Hail, Lyssa,” she says loudly. A part of her hates how uncertain she sounds, but to make up for it, she turns to the direction of Lyssa's voice. She can’t see Her, of course; mortals can’t see gods. Nyra remembers the story of Malchor. She likes her ability to see, thank you very much. She remembers how anguished his ghost was, howling Dwayna’s name like an injured beast.
And maybe she’s like that, too, alive yet forced to walk with guilt and grief eating away at her spirit and her bones. Because she tried to jump into the sea below not that long ago. In Lyssa’s temple, her mind cruelly supplies and Nyra shivers beneath her armor.
Can she even bear to look Lyssa in the eye now?
“Formal,” Lyssa says. “There is no need, daughter. I think you’re right at home. Would you be so formal with your parents?”
Nyra sits down. Renira watches, unsure of what to do, and she signals her to do the same. “If I’m at home, goddess,” Nyra says, “then I’m sure you won’t mind if I bring a guest?”
“Your mesmer friend? She can stay. Her magic is in my domain, though her blessings are, funnily enough, not. What is your name, mesmer?”
“Renira, goddess,” she says cautiously.
“Illusory,” Lyssa replies. “Just like it should be.”
Renira stiffens and digs her nails in her gloves, but her face remains calm. “Yes, goddess.”
Nyra wants to ask what that is all about, but knows she needs to tread cautiously, too. Her head’s too exhausted and heavy for two mind games at once. Besides, she needs Renira as an ally here and she’s not stupid enough to risk it by asking questions like this.
“Lyssa, I have a question,” Nyra says. She swears she can see the wind around them move to face her and tilt a little to the side in curiosity. “You invited me here in a dream. You spoke to me when you sensed that we were backed into a corner in our search, so it stands to reason that you know what we’re after. If I may, what information do you have on Balthazar’s whereabouts?”
Lyssa’s laughter echoes like a thousand drums, and Nyra digs her clawed gauntlets into her thighs to not cover her ears. She can feel Renira looking at her, maybe bewildered, maybe with that ever present calm, but she doesn’t want to turn away now. A part of her knows she should be more humble, now that she has blood on her hands that will never go away as long as she’s alive, but she’ll be damned if she doesn’t answer that little voice in her head that slaps the notion away like a gnat.
“Oh, you’re brave!” Lyssa says as laughter dies on Her windy lips. “Humanity hasn’t produced a person this fearless in a long, long while.”
“That’s what happens when you have nothing to lose,” Nyra says. Her throat becomes tight and her eyes prickle with tears. “I tried to jump from Your temple not that long ago. I think I’ve earned the right to ask questions directly.”
“I know you did,” Her voice becomes quieter. Of course She knows. “Your mind is still in chaos. It will be until your death. You placed any peace for yourself at the altar of glory long ago.” The wind blows forward, and a ghostly hand cups Nyra’s cheek. It’s cold and unsettling and it makes her skin crawl. She breathes out and closes her eyes tightly. Her heart feels like it wants to beat out of her chest. “Was it worth it?”
Nyra’s quiet for a while. Tears slide down her skin, burning, yet the ghostly fingers wipe them away. She feels the heaviness of her armor, the tickling of her hair that was once a flag behind her and that now barely reaches her shoulders. Her shoulder aches from the fighting, her heart aches from the evil she’s done, all in the name of her own glory and this fucking world that she’s judged to be worthy of Trahearne’s life. She feels claws softly digging into the sweaty skin of her cheek, as sharp as the ones on her hands.
Nyra tears light with them and makes it her own. If Lyssa draws blood, that too would belong to Nyra.
Nyra opens her eyes. “Yes.”
Lyssa runs a hand through her hair. “I’d hunt you down if you answered any differently,” She simply says. “I sent you that dream because I knew you would be able to stand up to Balthazar. You, daughter, and nobody else. You will either kill him or die trying.” She then lets go and Nyra catches her breath fully again, like a pressure has been lifted.
“I only need to track him down, then,” Nyra says, with a renewed fire in her chest. “So, tell me what you know, goddess.”
III
She does find Balthazar in the end. These days, the memory of him doesn’t burn so painfully as it did at first. The scars he left on her arms and her legs and on the skin of her stomach and lower back remain hidden under clothes, but Nyra knows they’re there.
She’s used to them, somehow. They’re her shrine to her heresy, after all. In her home chapel, his place is empty because she carries the reminder of him on her skin. And if she, in her grief-induced craze, had her way, she’d bring down every single statue of him in Tyria by hand.
Let her be the only shrine he’ll ever have left, on a wartorn path to erase everything else. Sometimes, she remembers Lyssa asking her if it’s worth it. If she thought she knew pain then, when she stood before her goddess, she should’ve considered her answer a little more.
But Nyra knows pain now. She knows the pain of grief, of loss, of a broken faith, and her answer remains the same. Gods have left Tyria, but this answer is the closest thing she has to a divine oath.
It’s always worth it.

Drakkar - A Corrupted Spirit of the Wild?
Hello hello! This is something I’ve been meaning to do for a long while now, at least a couple years even. I’ve mentioned it a couple times on my blog about how I wanted to go into on here, but never had the time/energy to do so.
Until now! With the topic of Norn and SotW on my mind, and with @bjoras showing interest in this theory, I’m finally sitting down to go into it.
WARNING: This post is very image heavy, and will contain spoilers for Icebrood Saga, as well as the image of an animal corpse. Proceed with caution!
So we begin with Drakkar. Jormag’s Champion in the Bjora Marches, through which they whispered to Svanir, and later the Commander and their companions.
We only know so little about Drakkar, or why its existence allowed Jormag to whisper in the way that they did. We know Drakkar has existed frozen in the lake of Bjora Marches since before GW1, and lore posits the idea that it’s been a Champion of Jormag since the previous Dragonrise.
However, I’m not entirely sure about that. Ever since some a piece of dialogue during the episode Jormag Rising, I’ve been convinced that Drakkar wasn’t always a dragon champion, and instead was possibly a Spirit of the Wild that was corrupted by Jormag.
To begin with, we’ll cover Drakkar’s design in GW2. It got one hell of a makeover between GW1 and GW2, but I’m willing to chalk the difference up to “Anet didn’t have much of a plan for Drakkar during GW1 and expanded more of its potential lore when they revisited it in GW2″
PART 1: DESIGN
Tumblr media
[Full Image]
As you can see, the design is explicitly inspired by the rotting corpses of beached whales, particularly the head and the “fur”.
Even outside the concept art note, Drakkar’s similarity to a whale can be seen with the silhouette of it swimming through the ice.
Tumblr media
[Full Image]
“But what about Drakkar’s feet?” you ask, “Whales don’t have feet, Ellis!”
No, but they do have finger bones nonetheless.
Tumblr media
[Full Image]
With this diagram of a whale skeleton, you can see that despite having fins, whales do in fact have finger bones! This is because whales actually evolved from four-legged, land-dwelling animals!
And comparing this diagram to this image of Drakkar, you can truly see how similar the head shape is to a whale skull.
Tumblr media
[Full Image]
The main difference is that Drakkar has back legs as well, but given Jormag’s ability to drastically change a creature’s anatomy with their corruption, even before receiving Zhaitan’s influence over undeath (Example: the Really Fucked Up Versions of Icebrood Norn. Yes, that was a Norn.) I think it’s possible to explain it away as “Jormag did some fucked up shit to this thing”
In fact, when a Pact NPC mentions the different between Drakkar during Jora’s days and the current version, a Kodan NPC replies that Jormag changes things to fit [their] purposes.
Vigil Crusader: The stories made it seem like Drakkar was trapped in the ice. And that it looked...different then.
Kodan Guard: That was hundreds of years ago. The whole time, Jormag's power seeped into the beast. Molding. Changing.
Vigil Crusader: So you're saying those pictures the old explorers drew...they're still accurate?
Kodan Guard: Were accurate. Ice fills any shape. Becomes any form. The dragon's magic changed Drakkar to suit its purposes.
[Source]
It is also worth noting that the original design of Drakkar also had four limbs, for whatever that’s worth.
PART 2: NEW SPIRIT OF THE WILD?
When Shadow in the Ice, the chapter that we dealt with Drakkar during, came out, we also got a new item in the Black Lion Statuette “shop”: The Whale Spirit Glider.
Tumblr media
This item is interesting to me, because while a Glider skin based on Spirits of the Wild are not new (Raven’s Spirit Glider), there’s never been any mention of a Whale Spirit of the Wild! But we do know that all animals in Tyria have a Spirit of the Wild associated with them, so logic stands that there is a Whale Spirit out there somewhere.
Unfortunately the Glider skin is all there is to this potential Spirit, at least when it comes to concrete lore. But I do think it’s still worth noting, especially as it was released during the same chapter as Drakkar itself.
PART 3: CONTROL THE UNCONTROLLABLE
Fast forward a little bit to Jormag Rising. During the sequence in One Charr, One Dragon, One Champion, where we are attempting to free the four main Spirits of the Wild from Jormag’s clutches, this piece of dialogue happens between Braham and Bangar.
Braham Eirsson: What are you doing to the Spirits of the Wild?
Bangar Ruinbringer: What Jormag did to Drakkar. Use its power to control the uncontrollable.
Bangar Ruinbringer: Elder Dragons want only magic. And the Spirits are nothing but. So I'll convince them to share it wi—
[Source]
Emphasis mine.
Now this bit of dialogue raises a lot of questions, doesn’t it? “What Jormag did to Drakkar” all but states that Drakkar wasn’t always Jormag’s Champion, and that Jormag took control of it at some point in the past.
So what was Drakkar originally?
There’s a lot of things that Drakkar could have been, Tyria is full of fantastic creatures of all kinds, but the specific comparison between Drakkar and Jormag’s attempt to corrupt the Spirits makes me think that Drakkar may have been a Spirit of the Wild in the distant past.
And given the rest of the evidence I’ve given in this post, I believe that Drakkar may have been the Whale Spirit of the Wild before Jormag corrupted it. It appears that it was so long ago that even the Norn themselves don’t recognize it, or talk about a Whale Spirit in the first place. We don’t know how long the Spirits of the Wild have existed in Tyria, but if I recall correctly, it’s implied/stated that they’ve been around even before the Norn existed.
It’s very likely, if one subscribes to this theory, that the Whale Spirit was corrupted into Drakkar long before most of the current races in Tyria existed, which would tie into the canon theory that Drakkar has been around since the previous Dragonrise, albeit not necessarily as a Dragon Champion the entire time.
-----
And there you have it, folks! This post has been a long time coming, but it’s a theory I’ve been very fond of since Jormag Rising, and I’m delighted to have finally written it down on here!
If you have any additional thoughts about this theory, please do add onto this post! I’d love to hear peoples’ take on this.

About Me
So, my goal for this blog is to track my progress in weight loss by any means necessary. I will lose weight. That's just going to happen because I know all the science and psychology and I know how to use it. I am done with always being the same 250 lbs. No more.
My lowest weight ever has been 185 so I am looking to get down to that at least and see how I feel from there.
I am 38 years old and have been dealing with bul1m1a since I was about 14. I try not to engage in the binge and purge cycle but it feels unavoidable sometimes. I lean a little toward @n@ as well depending on how I feel.
So far I am handling things in a fairly healthy way but it could dip into my ED so...
This blog is likely to be filled with @n@ motivation and whatnot so please don't scroll if you are in recovery.
sw: 270lb
cw: 247.6lb
gw1: 200lb
gw2: 175lb
ugw: 150lb (high I know but meh, that's me, I'm scared to go lower than that)

character ask for ya: i know (or am pretty sure at least, correct me if i’m wrong) you have some folks whose timelines extend back into the gw1 era. how do their stories intertwine with the gw1 plot things? and/or feel free to elaborate on whatever extended life shenanigans are going on! :) @kerra-and-company (also you were definitely right about the fractal, i just checked, tyty :D )
((aaa!! i thought of Sunqua immediately, my memory of it is so spotty now im surprised i was right!!))
ohh !! I have a few !! ... a few, uh. let me count actually-- ... kai I have at least nine who do, i have more than i THOUGHT i did... holy fuck. Note that I haven't finished any of the GW1 Campaigns yet :'D So I can't really comment on the main story, but I can talk around it! ^^
Some intertwine very closely!! Others are looser and more in-between the first and second game! Qlikk is one of the most involved because he was the Hero of Cantha! His birthname is Yuna, and he still uses it !! he's just been hiding !! It's a little difficult to join the Durmand Priory and cite your name as Jiao Yuna, that anyone could instantly clock as the Hero of Cantha's name. And what an odd name for an asura! (of course, outside of my personal AU he's somewhat safe from that! In generalized AU's i still like to think that he directly helped the Hero of Cantha and is still somewhat notable - just enough to give him reason to hide his identity in present day!)
He traveled northward after the events of the first game, partly to avoid the attention, and ends up going to the Maguuma Jungle and becoming one of the Druids that you see there in Auric Basin in GW2!! He's technically made of celestial magic at this point -- during Heart of Thorns he got very curious about what was outside the jungle again, so he found a way to appear as an asura to explore again! (He's permanently got the antlers, wings, and tail though! He multiclasses as a Ranger / Mesmer in the first game, so he still has some Mesmer tricks to hide them!!)
Liifa's is fun too since he surfaces right after Nightfall - he's known Kormir as one of The Six pretty much his entire life! Dude is the reason for my new blog name the BIGGEST Sunspear you'd ever meet!! He's got their whole motto memorized and spent all of his youth living with them! :D He also has a personal vendetta against Palawa Joko for SO many reasons <3
im still going apparently but also! Alana Gravina! She's my Hero of Nightfall, and ends up staying in the Moon Palace... yes, with Joko. No, she is not having fun! ♥ She's a lich herself, and still retains her own will, so she's been working under Joko's nose and passing notes to the Sunspears about his plans for centuries! ^^
There's also Ryuji, Aysen, all of the Binding demons I have, Eliana and Kiera technically count via shenanigans, and Asier Gravina,, and actually Bjiattu's entire crew, technically. Whoopsie :D

Current Activities in Gaming #225
Had to do some digging for this one. For the past two months I’ve been pretty active on Guild Wars 2. I’ve been active in blogging on MMO’s before, mostly WoW but these days there’s not a lot to talk about without spending a short novel contextualizing everything I’m working towards. One of my general goals is to get one of those flying mounts, but they made the process to be known as one of the most pain in the ass processes. One of the very first things you have to do is collect 21 items around a map that was specifically designed with that very flying mount in mind. You can ‘borrow’ world-placed ones in specific areas but they’re typically high up so you have to traverse some bullshit to even find one at all. Got that out of the way, but it took a couple of hours. And there’s like 80 more steps to go. Jesus. I originally came back to GW2 to roleplay but haven’t found any communities. I found a single RP guild. The initial meet and greet turned out to have been a judging party with some officers in the unseen background talking shit about my style before saying publicly “We’ve seen enough. Zydrate, do you even care about anyone else?” My main character is a fairly stoic, John Wick-esque figure and generally my RPing style (across many characters) is not the type to regurgitate their entire life stories to people they just met. One character I met was almost too quick to talk about the source of their scars through some Asuran torture. My character emoted in such a way that conveyed that this person was an absolute buzzkill and didn’t really inquire further. Logically, my character doesn’t want to peel back a layer of PTSD and be the cause of someone’s mental breakdown in a market square. In reality, players are just itching to drop a short novel about what their characters are all about. I’m not one of those players. Anyway that one guy who said “Okay I’ve seen enough” is also roleplaying a literal Angel. In a universe where that doesn’t exist. I looked up “Angel” on the guild wars wiki and there’s two results: A named NPC in the first game and a named cat in the second. Angels aren’t really a thing, and the character was very quick to point out he has nothing to do with Dwayna (the universe’s stand-in “goody two shoes, health and love for everyone” type God). Out of character I was like “then what the fuck, then?” In character, my main is dealing with enough of her own shit she doesn’t really care to spend time identifying this humanoid “creature” that someone invented because they have a fourteen year old’s imagination they never grew out of. Listen. My roleplaying style is more akin to what Dungeons and Dragons offers. Everyone meets and an inn, but nobody ever drops their entire baggage when first meeting. No, let’s go run a dungeon, slay some Dragonkind and once my character figures out that the people she’s hanging out with won’t just cut and run then she’ll actually open up a bit about herself. And that is a two way street, when she figures out the people around her aren’t full of shit then she might inquire about who they really are. Or better yet, show her through actions. That’s just the kind of roleplayer I am and it’s now something I’m going to have to make clear to guilds in the future. At least on GW2. Moving on. My MMO batteries soon need recharging and I’ve made some recent purchases including Fable 3 and Sifu. I’ll get Sifu out of the way first. I played about 45 minutes of it, and the first level. I suck at it, even at the lowest difficulty. As usual parrying is a pain in the ass. Every game that has it is like “press this button right before they hit you” but I can never really tell what “counts” as before I am hit. I usually end up hitting the button when the enemy’s arm moves but no, way too early. So I just end up taking the hit anyway. So I try to concentrate towards a weapon swing, and I miss anyway and take a hit. Meanwhile Sifu does not fuck around with mook chivalry, many enemies can and will gang up on you if the pathing allows it. So while I’m trying to concentrate on one guy’s arm movements, there’s still like four bitches with bamboo sticks ready to shove up my ass. So, Fable 3. A 2010 game. A few years ago during my last job I actually tried to buy the CD for it, only to find out that Microsoft had basically shuttered the whole franchise from their store and I long since lost the window that it was on Steam for. I googled and googled and the result was trying to make a Microsoft/Xbox Pass account but that didn’t work either. The game just kind of refused to load, and if memory serves it wouldn’t even install. I had even bought a controller to plug into my PC to use for it, to no avail. So I was about 70 bucks down, but I do think I successfully refunded the CD itself for the ~35 or so it cost. But a couple nights ago the mood struck me once again. Not sure why, maybe it was the discovery that Fable 4 is actually being worked on. There’s almost no information on it, just some teaser with landscapes. Might see it next year, apparently. Anyway it got me to googling again and found out that Amazon just sells Steam keys directly. So I drop 20 bucks and plugged it into Steam, and there it is. Just like that, easy. You DO have to jump through some hoops to get it to run on modern machines but it’s mostly just a matter of downloading some special .dll files and dragging it into the game and boom, the game loads. I played it for several hours. I had forgotten how hilarious the money-making snowballing can be. Since I have the meta knowledge of what you need to do to get the ‘best’ ending (you need ~6 million gold), the minute I was able to do the Blacksmithing job I stopped my youtube recording and spent like an hour on that, gained 300k gold, and bought a couple of the most expensive buildings available at the time. I then put the game in windowed mode to watch youtube or play one of my idle games, generated up enough money to do the same thing with even more businesses. With very little story progression off my Youtube recording, she’s currently making around 120k every five minutes, and after two quests she’s sitting on over two million gold. Long before she becomes queen and is stuck with the “dilemma”. I think she’ll do just fine. Everyone hates her because rent is so high but the in-game morality has her squarely in the middle because I keep taking the “nice” options in quests, mixed with the occasional execution. Why spare a bandit leader who’s been terrorizing and murdering people for years? Warrior’s promise? Fuck off, dude, I don’t know half the atrocities you probably committed. But it’s a lot of fun. Fable 3 still gets a lot of shit for being the “worst” one but to me it’s the most memorable. The leveling mechanic is a downgrade and the fact that the menues are made to be a bunch of rooms you have to walk around in instead of just giving me a simple goddamn menu is a huge step backwards in UI design and user friendliness. That’s about it. I hate the “pause” menu more than the leveling mechanic but ultimately it just takes some getting used to and functions the same. As long as I can change my weapons midfight if I have too, then whatever. Just takes a pointless extra amount of time. So far it’s still the game I loved back in the day. In the future I have my eyes on: Thief Simulator 2, Darkest Dungeon 2, Diablo 4. DD2 is available now but waiting on another payday for it. Also giving the modding community some time to “cook”, as with DD1 I liked to get a few QoL mods that made my gaming life a little easier. Maybe modders will add new characters and classes like last time as well, those are usually fun to play with. Diablo 4′s leveling curve, if the beta is anything to go by, looks a bit slower paced that D3′s so it seems like a game that might demand more of my time on a day to day basis than some of the other things on this post. Might absorb me quite a bit, but I hope to give it a little more breathing room and not rush the endgame as hard. If there really is much of one at all, yet. And Thief Simulator 2 is just more Thief Simulator which I loved, but never really beat because the Rich neighborhood got too hard, but still loved it before that.

I’ve been getting sucked deeply back into GW2 and it honestly really tickles and pleases me that the game has enough depth that you and I get completely different things out of it, story and lore and even mechanics wise 😄 I love reading your Ascalonian blogging while I am just getting deep in my feels about Sylvari and the post core game dragon lore and trying to get my Sylvari and Asura the sparkliest outfits possible. I just realized the last 2% of the map I need for completion is actually in Ascalon because it’s on the other side of the world from all the stuff I’m obsessed with, haha. And there’s a fun meta layer to you with your human and GW1 interests and me who never played gw1 with my very young and unconnected Sylvari!
I've been meaning to answer this for a couple of days, because I really appreciated receiving it, esp from someone who understands wtf I'm going on about, lol.
Just before I saw it, I was actually thinking a bit about this—I'd been playing the original GW1 with my dad, and spent months in Ascalon before the Searing and we just finished leading our people to Kryta as refugees, and then would switch to playing GW2, and I was just thinking of what a different game it is for different people. Like, my mother has a sylvari thief and what snippets I've seen of her personal story are just wildly dissimilar, and in some ways, it feels like sylvari characters are ... not better, but that there are ways the game seems structured to reward playing them (Trahearne being integrated more organically[...as it were], the whole Mordremoth stuff, the theme song basically being directed at them) and creates a very different experience.
But it's something I don't actually mind, for all my human-related gripes, because it is cool that even though the storylines mostly converge, there's just so much to the game in terms of direct content and then even more that's hinted at etc that makes it a very rewarding setting for the imagination that can vary enormously from character to character. Even a single different choice with the same species and order can lead to at least a feeling of being very different people, with or without mechanical consequences.
Also, I recently ran into some sylvari NPCs who were talking about the ancient wisdom of the human queen and how she's older than even the very eldest of their kind—30! And that reminded me of this message and how cool it is that it's kind of created this experience that can mirror something of the player differences as well.
Also-also, I'm just really glad you're getting into it again! It doesn't have, like, D:OS2 level agency/personalization, but there's a lot of room for imagination, and it's always fun to talk about it. When we were talking about Logan's tragic beigeness vs Caithe, I was about to go on a rant about how Logan's ancestress, my eternally beloved Gwen who suffered 10 years of trauma from the Charr and relentlessly sought vengeance for the rest of her life, gets this blah obligatory het romance in the last GW1 expac that mostly seems to exist in order to lead to Logan's existence in GW2 and then he's Like That (likable but). I figured it was a bit of a niche tangent but also, it's nice that there's someone who could understand that very specific annoyance!
Have fun (if you can, haha) in Ascalon, and I hope you get all the sparkly gear you can! <3

Just a general heads up that this blog won't be spoiler-free for the new release coming tomorrow! Unfortunately I have a case of watching/playing a thing and then Not Being Able to Shut Up About It. Thankfully most of that will be contained to bothering people in Discord, so you shouldn't find too much here on release day.
That said, everything will be appropriately tagged for your blacklisting needs! I'll be using #gw2 spoilers, #guild wars 2 spoilers, and #end of dragons spoilers to cover my bases for at least the next two weeks. Furthermore any posts that deep dive into the story (b/c you know I love me some tinfoil speculation) will be under a read more.

Chrysallus (Commander/Aurene's Champion/Mesmer)
Aurienal (Mender/Lieutenant/Mesmer Mentor)
Arioch (Ex-NMC/Resident chaotic bastard/Alchemical Engineer)
If you don't know what to ask or how to ask it, conduct it like an interview! Be nosy! Just don't expect straight answers from in-character responses!
Click here for the latest ask game I've reblogged. Will change periodically. Any asks sent without a specific character chosen, I will assume means you want every character's answer.
Making this both an rp and an ask blog now. Why not do both?

Blog updates under the cut! ~🌸}
3/7/23: Thought I'd switch up the pinned post a bit, make it less long. Also have a ref of Chrys and Luna during HoT
5/25/23: Reminder that the ask box is open for any and all inquiries! Expect in character asks (can even rp if you want to shake our characters together in a hamster ball).
Also thought I'd mix up the pinned a bit while I am working on the lore.
6/4/23: Dropped the HoT-lws3 lore arc for Arioch finally! Will adjust it as necessary.
--------------------
Anyone want some playlists?
Chrysallus
Aurienal
Arioch
(Currently, Auri and Arioch needs more on their playlists. Just made them recently, but they both have at least 10 songs. Hope y'all enjoy them regardless! If you see nightcore on the playlists, it's to make sure I know which song I'm looking for to replace it with later)
--------------------
Current lore project: None. Give me suggestions for people in my ask box!
If you like a headcanon that I put thought into or add-on to, don't be afraid to reblog it! I'd love to see others that have thought about the same stuff I have!
Also, if you are one to mass like/reblog my stuff, I see that as a compliment, so don't worry about clogging my notifs!
