This past week has been especially hard on you. You were extremely busy at work and the seasonal depression has finally hit, so you were drained mentally and physically.

Rhea had been gone most of the week too being on every WWE show imaginable. You watched when you could but it was hard to focus on anything for a long time. She usually told you when in the show she would be on so you tuned into those parts specifically.

It was finally Saturday night and you were doom scrolling on any and every social media but you couldn’t keep your eyes open any longer. You didn’t know when you fell asleep on the couch and you didn’t know how long you had been out until you felt a gentle hand rubbing on your arm.

A small whisper from above you, “hey baby.”

You jumped a bit when you saw her towering over you but your body softened once you realized who it was. “Hi,” your voice hoarse with sleep. You stretched wide as you groaned.

The wrestler let you finish as she watched you with a smile, “c’mon, let’s go to bed.” Barry and Luna followed orders and their nails clacked against the floor before they sighed into their respective beds. Ryuk didn’t move, unsurprisingly.

You raised your arms and weakly made grabby hands at her pouting, “not yet, c’mere.”

“I promise it’ll be more comfy in the bed,” she chuckled, but she couldn’t help falling for it.

As you slowly sat up rubbing your eyes, you scooted over just enough to let her sit down next to you. She sat as close to you as possible leaning back into the cushions, opening her arms for you to snuggle into her. You laid your head on her chest close to her shoulder and placed your legs over hers. She wrapped her arms around your waist and thighs pulling you in close.

“I missed you,” you breathed her in. The smell of her filled your nostrils, you missed that smell. You missed the feeling of her arms around you, her presence in the house, her voice, her laugh, her.

“I missed you too,” she kissed the top of your head, “I’m sorry you had a rough week and I wasn’t here,” her voice was calm and low, you could tell she was just as tired as you or more.

“Don’t be sorry,” you lifted your head to meet her gaze, “I know you’ve been all over and did so many things,” you gave her a small smile.

She returned the smile, “tell me about it,” she scoffed.

You puckered your lips to request a kiss and she complied giving you a soft but long one. The hand around your legs cupped your jaw as she did. Letting go, she gave you a few small quick pecks before rubbing your cheek with her thumb and pushing the hair out of your face. “I missed your pretty face,” she smirked.

You blushed in response, “I missed yours too,” you chuckled squeezing her cheeks.

“Alright,” she laughed swatting your hand away.

The two of you sat in comfortable silence with you cuddling into her muscular arms with her stroking your hair, almost breathing in unison. You both almost fell asleep after a few minutes until she came to, “We should go to bed.”

You nodded your head against her shoulder. So she cradled you and picked you up bridal style and carried you into the bed room. She laid you on the bed before she changed into her pajamas. As she did, you snuggled up into the covers waiting for her. It didn’t take her long to slide under the covers with you.

Though she was taller than you, you loved being the big spoon. You let her get comfy then you formed your body behind hers pulling her in tightly, “I love you,” you said quietly.

“I love you, baby,” she breathed.

You were so content with where you were in this moment. You smiled to yourself feeling her breathe against you thinking about how you’re the luckiest person in the world and you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. You both fell asleep pretty quickly and barely moved throughout the night, but neither of you cared, it’s where you’re meant to be.

(SPOILERS if you havent seen it obviously)

About 3ish minutes into the episode we see Clark be affected by red sun radiation, one of the non-Kryptonite weakness Superman has.

In the comics we first learn about this weakness in Action Comics #300 (1963), cover art by Curt Swan, George Klein, and Joe Letterese, where Superman is transported to the future by the Superman Revenge Squad, where the sun turned red thus losing his powers and has to find a way back home.

At the place where Jimmy was captured, we meet Monsieur Mallah and the Brain, at least MAwS version of these characters. I talk more about them in here. The episode has them depicted more like an old married couple with no supervillainous intentions compared to their comic counterparts...

who often associate themselves as enemies to the Doom Patrol and affliated with the Brotherhood of Evil. Also the Brain is usually French in the comics, here in MAwS, the Brain is German. The cover is from Outsiders #37 (2006) cover art by Daniel Acuna.

Back outside we see where Monsieur Mallah and the Brain took Jimmy, Cadmus Minefield.

Cadmus/Project Cadmus/the DNA Project, is known for its genetic engineering projects. The organization makes its first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #135 (1971) created by legendary comic book creator, Jack Kirby. Cadmus is pretty well known for cloning Superboy/Kon-el/Conner Kent. Like in MAwS Cadmus is a government sanctioned division that's located outside of Metropolis. Ironic since in MAwS the government disavows Cadmus. You can read more about it on these two pages from Who's Who in the DC Universe #12 (1991), the art is done by Dan Jurgens, Dennis Janke, and Anthony Tollins.

Later in the forest we see Lois and Clark have to deal with the OMACs.

In the comics, Jack Kirby created OMAC, at the time, the acronym stood for One Man Army Corp. Buddy Blank of Earth-AD (a future post-apocalyptic Earth) was selected to be part of the OMAC program where with the help of the Brother Eye satellite grants him powers of super strength, stamina and density control. The cover art here for OMAC #1 (1971) was done by Jack Kirby, Mike Royer, and Gaspar Saladino.

Years later OMAC gets reinvented to be a cyborgs of Brother Eye that was developed by Batman thanks to his paranoia about super powered heroes turning evil. The page here is from the OMAC Project #5 (W: Greg Rucka, P&I :Jesus Saiz, C: Hi-Fi, L: Phil Balsman). This iteration of OMAC uses the acronym for Omni-Mind and Community. These Cyborgs make their first appearance in the OMAC Project #1 (2005). MAwS's OMACs are a lot more robotic and Evangelion-esque designed compared to how they look in the comics. Note the mohawk/fin designs on OMACs heads in both iterations of the comics and how the robots are designed in MAwS.

Monsieur Mallah mentions one dimensions in the universe where he and the Brain can be accepted. This brings to mind...

DC's multiverse. The multiverse makes its first appearance in the Flash #123 (1961) where Barry Allen and Jay Garrick meet for the first time. DC's multiple Earths have changed over the years from having only 52 distinct Earths to now infinite. The Multiverse map created by Grant Morrison and Rian Hughes, here is from Multiversity comic series.

Someone on the MAwS crew is a fan of the ED-209 design in Robocop.

After the fight with the OMACs, the Brain talks about the General. The only person in DC comics who usually goes by that moniker is...

General Wade Eiling. The panels here are from Captain Atom #1 (1987) (W: Cary Bates, P: Pat Broderick, I: Bob Smith, C: Carl Gafford, L: John Costanza). General Eiling is often associated with Suicide Squad/Task Force X. So it's possible that much like Parasite and Ivo, the MAwS team are combining characters by having...

him be a combination of General Eiling and General Sam Lane, Lois's dad. But who knows. Gotta wait for confirmation if this is either Eiling or Lane.

sometimes i think about how different their lives could have been if scully was never abducted. but then, i think that her abduction was inevitable the first moment she walked into that basement office. they were always doomed.

that's what makes ascension so effective as an episode: it's a race to stop something that cannot be stopped. this show drops mulder right back in the night he never escaped, listening to the person closest to him scream his name for help. and then it tells him: fix it. get there in time. you're not a kid anymore.

but the central tragedy of the x-files is that you cannot go back and you do not have the power to change and mulder spends his entire life searching for something that he will never ever find, trying to save people that he will never ever save. samantha has been dead from the beginning. there is no truth. "i've been chasing monsters with a butterfly net." (there is no other end to this story.)

ascension drops mulder into the night he never escaped, tells him "fix it," and then proves: there's nothing to be done. what if scully didn't scan the chip? barry could've been given her address. we don't know that's how he found her. what if mulder hadn't trusted krycek? he would've hit the truck. what if the cop had looked in the trunk? what if the tram had been working? what if mulder hadn't stopped to pick up the necklace?

you can run it a million different ways, he always walks up that mountain just two minutes too late. there is no other end to this story.

ascension isn't really about scully, you never hear her speak. it's about mulder and duane barry. both ascending, both trying to rewrite history. barry is desperate to not be the one taken, to be free. mulder is desperate to not be the one left behind. both trying to avoid living their worst night over and over and over. but ultimately, they are both little more than "microscopic cogs in the catastrophic plan," and there is no man with the red right hand. scully's abduction changes everything. every single shift and downfall and tragedy of the rest of the series can be traced back to it. it's why season one is a time capsule. she will never be that curious and fresh and open again. he will never be that excited and joyful and trusting. they spend the rest of their lives wanting to be back in that graveyard in bellefleur, over that hill in idaho, wide-eyed and awe-struck. and they never will be again.

and no matter which way you run it (just like no matter which way you run november 27th 1973), it can't be fixed.

But it all changed when you meet Simon Riley, you got out of the military to be with Simon. 1 year has passed since you left the military. But things have took a bad turn and became far worse.                                                                                                      Every time y/n went outside with Simon and the dogs, y/n can feel and see a person taking a picture of you and Simon. Y/n would always block Simon from the cameras. So many signs that something was coming, but y/n didn’t want to believe it. Cue now, y/n had got a letter in the mail, you sat down on the couch. Hound and doom laying on the other couch taking a nap, chaos and scream laying by your feet, y/n opens the letter, it read “y/n we have Simon”, it was signed by your ex - commander. Y/n dropped the letter and transformed into a wolf, your white fur on edge, your eyes glowing a ruby red, fangs tripping. The seekers circling y/n growling with tails raised high. Y/n ran and ran, y/n thoughts keep repeating the same thing “KILL, KILL, KILL THEM ALL”. Y/n jumps into the sea to swim to base, the seeker hot on y/n tail. When you get close to base y/n transforms and swims to shore, your ex-team waiting for you on the beach. Y/n walked on the beach to y/n team “Ashland give me a report”, “general Vinson has permeated general Shepard and his shadow company to come on base. The General and his company had brought prisoners, he called them 141″. Y/n hummed “who is 141″, “I am having Henry look into as we speak". “Good job captain Ashland. Lieutenant Barry lock down the base when I give the all clear over the radio. Staff Sergeant Cooper and sergeant cable take out the shadows, but due it quietly. I am going to see what Vinson wants.” “Solid copy, Colonel”, they all begin to make their way up the stairs to the base. Y/n turns around and looks up at the night sky, the moon not visible due the clouds, dark clouds. A storm brewing, lighting in the distance, y/n turns around and begin ascending the stairs to the base, the seekers following right behind y/n. Y/n heads to the hanger door, two shadows dead in the front of the hanger doors. Y/n gets close, and the hanger door begins to open. Y/n walks inside and see nothing has changed, tables line the inside. The kitchen in the back, where Gordon would make delicious food. Y/n then sees a couple of dead shadows, y/n then sees gear on the table near the door into the base, y/n walks past tables and looks at the gear then the door. Y/n smiles “Cable”, y/n gear and weapons scatter the table, including the seekers gear. You hurry and put on everything including y/n mask and glasses (Winter soldier look alike!?) then you put your hoodie on. Y/n then put a vest on each dog, a head piece for each, so that they can hear what's going on the radio. You walk to the door and open it, y/n lets the seekers in first, then y/n steps inside and closes the door quietly behind you. You begin walking to where prisoners are held to be interrogated. “B, how copy”, “copy END”, “turn off the lights in the hallway and the interrogation room, only leave the light on in the square”, “solid copy”. The lights turn off, y/n opens the door to the room, the only light is inside the glass square, the glass door open. Y/n can see shadows and who you assume is general Shepard, but no Vinson in sight. 141 on their knees looking your way. “Show yourself”, y/n looks at Shepard, y/n bends down and whispers, “be ready seekers”. Then you begin walking to the entrance of the square. Y/n comes into view, the shadows pointing gun at y/n. You walk a couple steps “that’s close enough”, y/n looks at Shepard and then all the shadows, two shadows behind you, two others behind the 141 and two near Shepard. Y/n use your wolf sense to smell everyone, everything seems normal exempt, y/n could smell Simon, but y/n couldn’t see him. All you saw was a man with a mutton chop beard and a Boonie hat, he looked about 30 years old. Then next to him on his left was a person with a mustache and stubble turning slowly into a beard, his wearing a cap with the British flag on it, he looks no more than 28 years old. The one next to him had a mohawk, he had a beard going for him, then his eyes a lovely light blue. He looked about the same age as the kid wearing the cap. Then y/n looks all the way left, y/n sees a woman that looks about 40 years old. The one on her right was quite strange, he wore a skull mask, he was large in size, black attire. The only thing you see are his eyes, a lovely light brown. The remind you of your Simon, but where is he, “confused, are we”. You look at Shepard, then you shake your head no, he hums and then turns toward the one with the skull mask on. He bends down and takes off the mask, he moves aside, and y/n sees Simon. Your shocked, “seekers, kill them”, hound and doom go for the shadows behind y/n, you throw a knife at each shadow behind 141. Chaos and scream go for the two shadows near Shepard. You get on the radio quickly “Lock down”, red lights blink, the glass door sealed shut. Y/n turns around and looks at Shepard, his back hugging the glass door. The red lights have stopped blinking, hound and doom come to stand beside y/n, chaos and scream growling at 141. Y/n looks at them, and you signal them to y/n, the stand on the other side of you. They all growl at Shepard, y/n raise your left hand a makes a fist, the seekers all go silent. Y/n pushes the glasses up, they are resting on top of your head under the hood. The mask you place on your right arm. The mask snapping in place, y/n looks at Shepard “how did you know of this base”. He stays silent, y/n raise your voice “how did you know of this base”. He still remains silent, “Seekers, tear him limb from limb, let me hear him scream”. He looks at you scared and y/n smiles evilly at him, y/n snaps your fingers. The seekers run at him, they begin biting his arms and legs, ripping his flesh, blood splattering everywhere. His scream feeling the silence in the room, once the screams stop. Y/n gets on one knee and pets each seeker, not caring about the blood on your hands. You wipe your hands on your pants, you then radio “all clear”. The red lights blink and the door opens, y/n sees your team walking toward y/n, the seekers wagging the tails. “Go head”, the begin running towards y/n team. Cable, Barry, and Cooper stop and bend down petting each dog. Ashland walks over to you, he stands in front of you “colonel, the director called says he vouches for 141″. You look up and see the red lights turn off, y/n turns around and looks at each member of the 141, except Simon. “They are prisoners until further notice, take her”. Y/n looks at the women, “HEY”, “DON’T TOUCH HER”. The mohawk and the kid wearing the cap say. “Who are you”, “task force 141″, y/n looks at the Mutton chop. “Give me your name, call sign, and rank. If you don’t. Seekers”. They run and growl at the 141. You walk over to the one with a Mohawk, “you first”, he looks at you then at the guy with the mutton chops. You think he must lead 141, he nods at mohawk, then he begins to speak “Johhny MacTavish, call sign soap, sergeant”. You stand in front of the one wearing the cap with the British flag on it. He doesn’t look at you “Kyle Garrick, call sign Gaz, sergeant”. You walk over to the one with mutton chops, he looks at you “John price, Call sign Bravo 0-6, Captain”. Ashland was beside you and looks at the captain. “Jonathan”, you hum the seekers getting close to the captain “easy seekers, easy”, you bend down on one knee and grab the captains face. You have him look at you, you squeeze his face, and he winces “watch it”. Y/n lets go, you stand up and pass Simon and look at the women, she has light brown brunette hair and wearing civilian attire “Kate Laswell, Watcher -1, station chief”. “Who do you work for”, “CIA”, you huff. “Hound cut her lose”, hound gets behind her and cuts her rope. “Stand up and follow me”, Ms. Laswell gets up and stands “Ashland get the director on the secure line. Seekers stay here and watch them, they try anything kill them”, y/n looks at Ashland and he nods. You look at them one more time than turn around and walk towards the rest of your team, Ms. Laswell following behind y/n. “What do we do with the bodies, Colonel”, “clean them up, but leave the ones in here. It will help 141 build character.” Y/n walks to your office, passing many doors. Once you arrive you open the door “get in”, she walks in, you then close the door behind you. Ashland looks at you “he is on”, y/n nods. Y/n pulls out your office chair, “sit”, she sits down on the chair. The radio in front of Ms. Laswell, a huge transmission box standing in the middle of your desk with a clock on the far right.  “Dismissed”, y/n turns to Ashland. He nods and walks out the door closing it behind him. Y/n turns on the speaker, “this is END”, “why END, took you long enough t...”. “ENOUGH, I have Ms. Kate Laswell with me, can I trust her and her team to keep this base a secret including those who reside in it? I am not going to risk this bases secrecy for you.” “They can be trusted, END, I give my life for them”. Y/n was a bit shocked all the years y/n knew the director only 1 person he trusted with his life but also would die for them. “Fine, they are welcomed for now.” “Can I have a work with Ms. Laswell alone”, “of course, but make it quick”. You look at her and nod, y/n heads to the door. You open the door and step outside, closing the door behind you. Ashland standing on the right near the door, y/n looks at him “they are welcomed here for now, stay here and watch her. I am going to see the others”. You walk to the interrogation room, y/n opens the door and walks to 141, the door slowly closing behind y/n. You can see the seekers growling at 141. You stand in front of the captain of 141, you take off your hood. “Seekers, 141 are guest for now.” They stop growling and sit, “hound doom cut them loose”. Each one of the begin to stand, some checking their wrist, others looking at me. “Where is Kate”, “talking to the director in my office. Captain”. Y/n then senses fear, you look to your left at the sergeant with the mohawk. Scream is circling him; she sits right in front of him waiting for pets. “Scream” she looks at you “leave him be.” She looks back at the segreant and barks. The sergeant flinches a bit, you raise your voice “BACK OFF. SCREAM”, she looks at him and then walks to you. She stands on your right; you sigh and pinch your nose. You whisper “teenager” then you look at scream. She looks at y/n and barks, she then goes towards Simon. She gets on her hind legs and puts her paws on Simons shoulders. He pets hers, then all the others follow trying to get pets. You can feel him staring but you don’t look at him, y/n walks to the right. You lean on the wall, y/n opens the pouch in front and pulls out a cigarette pack and a lighter. Y/n opens the pack, and you shake it a bit until a cigarette pops out a bit. You grab it with your lips, y/n puts the pack back in the pouch, you get the lighter on and lite the cigarette. You put the lighter in the pouch then zip the pouch close. You take a big drag and then y/n exhales. The smoke coming out of your nose, the cigarette dangling from your lips. “I didn’t know you smoked”, you look at Simon “I quit a couple days before we meet”. He hums, you hear the door open, Ashland and Kate enter. Kate walks to 141 and Ashland walk to you, y/n takes a big drag then you swallow the cigarette “Captain show them around base”, “solid copy, colonel”. Y/n looks at them and see the seekers still asking Simon for pets. “Do Not enter doors that are closed only those open are far game, do you understand 141″. The all look at y/n and respond, “understood colonel”. You nod and walk out and head to your office, y/n opens the door and steps inside. You leave the door open; y/n looks around and sees nothing has changed. Your bed in the middle, black sheets and white pillows. On the left as soon as you walk in, your desk facing the wall with a clock above it, near the far end of the desk is a cabinet full of files and more. Next to your bed is a nightstand with a lamp and the book you still have yet to finish “kiss of deception”. (That is a very good book to read, romance and a series). On the other side of the bed, near the wall is another and another old cabinet with your essentials like clothes, shoes, jacket, coat, etc. Both cabinets take up the anterior space from one end of the wall to the other. The last wall on your right is a big bookshelf, with books you have collected over the years. Y/n walks over the desk and seats down, and soon as you seat you hear a knock, “enter”. Ashland walks over to you “I have showed them around base, the cafeteria, restrooms, showers, and gym also the reck room. A storm warning was called in just now,” “lock down the base”, “copy that, also Henry wants to speak to you”. “Alright”, Ashland walks out, you get up from your chair and head to Henry. Then you hear growling and whining and cursing coming from the reck room you walk to room and see scream and hound going at it. 141 looks at them in horror, “HEY, WHATS GOING ON HERE”. Scream and hound stop, they both look at you “You too, with me”. They both stick their tails under their legs and stand beside you. Y/n looks at 141 then at hound and scream “what happen”, scream stands in front of you and starts barking “Hound didn’t want to share”. You look at him on your left, he looks up at you for a split second then puts his head down “scream you can stay, hound with me”, “colonel, may I have a word with you”. You look at the captain “Sorry Captain, it well have to wait”, he nods. Y/n looks at doom laying under the coffee table. You look around for chaos, but she is nowhere in sight. You knew exactly where she was, in the kitchen sleeping on the cold tile floor. “Hound lets go”, you turn around and walk out the door with hound by your side. Many doors later you arrive a henry’s office. You knock on the door “Henry, it’s END”, “come in”, you open the door and walk to Henry. He stands up from his chair and hands you a bunch of files “The files you wanted on the 141 and more”, y/n takes them and nods. Y/n walks to your office, you close the door behind you, hound goes to lay on your bed, you walk to your desk and place the files on it. You pull out the chair and begin reading each member of the 141 files. Y/n was a bit impressed by each member, all members each have experience under their belts also they have proven themselves with their skills and expertise in each filled. Once you are done reading each member's file, you look at the clock and see two hours have passed. The clock reads 2:00am, y/n gets up, you look at hound, “stay”. Hound doesn’t move, you walk to the door and head out, you see the hallways lights are dim and nothing but silence. You walk over to your team's room and open the door slowly; you see all are asleep. You close it and head to 141 rooms; one by one you crack open the door and see each sound asleep. The last door is Simon’s you know he isn’t asleep; nightmares use to plague him but when you sleep together, he never got any. You enter the room quickly and quietly; you close the door behind you without alerting Simon of your presence. Y/n sees Simon seating on the bed looking at his feet. Y/n coughs and Simon looks up quickly, you walk over to him. Simon follows you with his eyes, even when you seat beside him. You look at him and begin to speak with sadness in your voice “I should have told you sooner about what I was, but I knew nothing good would come of it”. Y/n then begin thinking about the day before you got the letter. Y/n decided to tell Simon what you were and what you did. You both sat on the couch, the seekers were all taking a nap in your bedroom. Y/n told him you were a werewolf (like love death + robots, shape shifters. When shifting your clothes rip but shifting back you are left in a sports bra and cargo pants), that you have been alive for 185 years. You have served in the military for 161 years; the civil war was the first time you joined the military. Y/n was a nurse, you were 24 years old when you joined and the age you stopped at. (Y/n has looked 24 years old for 161 years!), your dog's use to work with you, y/n bite them so they could be immortal. Once you finished your story Simon got up and left but before he walked out the door he said, “I well be back”, he shut the door and y/n was left by yourself. You sat on the couch thinking it was a mistake telling him. You waited and waited the sun went down a long time ago. When you heard the door begin to open you stood up and saw Simon with a bottle in his hand. You were shocked, he told you very early on that he didn’t like alcohol or drugs. He begins walking and stumbling to the bedroom, you walk over to the door quickly and lock it, you turn and look a Simon. He was holding on to the kitchen island “Simon are you ok”, he turns around and throws the bottle at you. Y/n dodges it and it hits the door behind you breaking into many pieces. You get splashed with liquor and glass shards, it gets in your hair and on your clothes. “SHUT UP”, he looks at you with anger in his eyes, you begin crying. The seekers run to you; y/n looks at them “stay”, the begin whining and whimpering but you turn around and open the door quickly and close the door softly behind you. That was the last time you saw Simon; you returned to the apartment early in the morning, but Simon was nowhere to be found. A couple of months have passed without anything from Simon until you finally received that letter that he was kidnapped. You look away from Simon and look at the door and begin breathing heavily, you look over at Simon. Y/n could see his lips moving but you couldn’t hear what he was saying. You look down at your feet and close your eyes, when you feel something on your knee. Y/n looks up and sees hound barking at you and Simon is kneeling in front of you without the mask on looking at your worried, you couldn’t hear anything, only ringing in your ears. You stand up swiftly and begin walking to the door, you open it quickly and begin running down the hall. You run to the hanger doors, but the doors don’t open due to lockdown, you fall on your hands and knees breathing hard, y/n could feel you nails growing. You begin shifting, your clothes rip, you begin peeling your skin letting the fur come out. Y/n full shifted, your fur white, eyes glowing red. Y/n stands 12 feet tall; you turn look to your left and see everyone standing in the middle, y/n walks over. The seekers run to you and begin circling around you wagging their tails and barking. You get on all fours and begin nuzzling them with your snout. Once you finished you walk to Simon and press your snout into, his belly. Y/n then turns around and looks at the seekers “let’s play”, the begin running around. You begin chasing them and then they chase you. THE END or is it?

You'll believe a cat can do game design

So many Superman games suck hard time or inexplicably depower the Man of Steel. But if you don't depower him there's not much gameplay left, right? So I've been thinking, what would make a possibly good Superman game? And I came up with the following.

First, it's an open-world, free roam thing, set in and probably limited to Metropolis, though for story reasons there may be other places sometimes (the moon, Gotham, whatever). You go around, either flying freely as Superman or low-key on the ground as Clark, and every so often there's a call for help. You can respond, and stop a mugger or rescue a kitten from a tree. Just standard "superhero's slow day" bullshit. If you're playing as Clark though you have to play carefully lest your secret identity is blown.

Now, Supes lives in a world of cardboard (remember that scene?) so you can't expect him to punch a mugger and have the mugger survive. My proposal is twofold: first, punch impacts scale with the target. Second, merely tapping the button does less damage than holding it. So when fighting a mugger, you gotta take care to only tap the button lest you turn the man to paste. Unless of course you want to rather play as Homelander. You monster. Similarly, heat vision -- you want to intimidate the mugger into running? Tap the heat vision button to do the glowing eyes of doom thing. But hold the button and the mugger dies in pieces.

(@letrune suggested earlier that you get one freebie. The first time you ketchup a mugger, you see him slump against the wall or whatever, blood decals and all. The black cutscene bars appear as Superman angrily turns to face the player. "You get one free shot." Fade to white, and the mugger gets up dazed and afraid, without any blood decals.)

So basically instead of worrying about your health bar, since the muggers and most environmental hazards do quickly regenerated chip damage at best, you have to worry about your reputation bar. Killing people or causing property damage hurts, even if not physically. Except for that one free shot.

Then the special story missions come in. Finish an objective that requires use of super powers, but as Clark. Find someone/something, using your X-ray vision or super-hearing. Race the Flash (it only happened like... several times in the comics? Also, super-speed would be depicted as the world around you slowing down since you'd need super-reflexes to go with it, so Barry looks like he's just running normally as far as you're concerned.)

And then the heavy hitters come in. And the kryptonite. And you notice that tapping the punch button does way more damage now, because your attacks are scaled to your opponent. And you very quickly notice that your health bar does go down now.

On the other hand, a fair bit of environmental damage is now allowed without reputation loss.

Until that mission is over and everything scales back. Back to the world of cardboard. Unless, again, you think Homelander is the better superhero. You monster.

Add on top of this a bunch of useless cosmetics and you got yourself a Good Game.

2. Look what I have under the cloak

At the graduation, Barry begged you to be there. You'd finished a week earlier and got your useless diploma, and could now barricade one window with it. It was important for him for you to be there, because, well, you were his only friend. He also crushed into you, hard, like only Barry Allen can. With the thought, swirling in his head, and the reinforced feeling of admiration turning almost into obsession. But you didn't know about it.

The ceremony was prudent, quick and sweet. At least they have acknowledged his genius, that mr Barry Allen excells at all subjects he takes onto, and there were many. They saw his bright future as talented lawyer, and shook his hand, and forgot his name the next day. Barry looked funny, like a schoolboy, in a long black robe and a graduate's hat; he beamed with pleasure as he took off the stage and went back into the audience. You nudged his shoulder and nodded, and gave him a short hug.

It's been weird, pretending like he's not the Flash, when he was the Flash. Every time he skipped College to go someplace, he now didn't even invent any excuses, and you didn't even ask. He'd just return the next day, or a couple days later, a little beaten, a bruise here and there, and you'd casually talk about the news to tease him. You were glad he wasn't trying to distance himself from you. The Flash or not, you wouldn't have anybody else to talk to if he decided to stop being friends with you.

You went to lunch and the library as usual, chatted about physics and literature, and films, and food. All the while a huge yellow lightning sign hung between you like an elephant in the room. You didn't know why it pissed you so much, that he wouldn't confirm. You guessed there were reasons, but it was so, so painfully clear.

Now, as the ceremony was over, you two started to get going. Talking about the future, and the plans, and the doom that was awaiting you. The job market - oh, don't mention it, it's a nightmare. Should we go out for a pizza? Of course, I thought that was by default.

Suddenly, he grabbed your hand as you entered the inner yard. People were already making themselves scarce, all flowing straight out of the gates. Barry pulled you over, concealing you two behind a brickstone niche with a little fountain.

"Look what I have under my cloak", he said, quickly.

You pulled your hand away.

"Ew, Barry, fuck off!"

"No, it's not what you think. It's the other thing you were thinking".

You looked into his face, into his impatient dark eyes, talking to you. You stepped towards him with the feeling of anticlimax approaching, and he opened up his black ceremonial robe.

The dark-red costume with the huge bright yellow lighting on his chest, like a Christmas present.

You opened your mouth, a mixture of triumph and annoyance brewing in your mind.

"We been knew, friend. But that's still... very cool".

"I finally got the approval. Bruce-"

He slapped himself on the mouth so hard he moaned softly. You bit your lip not to roar with laughter.

"I mean Batman, he really didn't want me to share with anyone, I am so sorry".

"You're a really bad actor, Barry, and your mask doesn't hide very much".

"Yeah, I know. I know. But I am so relieved I can tell you now, I mean..."

"Do the Flash!" you urged.

"Hm?"

"Do the thing, when you're standing here, and the next second, you're standing there!"

He smiled happily at your childish impatience for wonder. He started to move. In the slow motion of moving matter, among the golden threads of atoms of the air, he watched your face, like a portrait, and how your hair, ruffled by his sudden jump, flew across it. He wondered why he hadn't done it earlier, because this way, he could stare at your beauty without seeming like a creep. Oh, he was a creep, was he? Fantasizing that one day, he'd be able to catch that expression on your face, that other people usually provide: the look of admiration, and astonishment, the smile of being on a rollercoaster for the first time.

He took off his robe and hung it on the bench, took off his hat, put in on the bench, then, put on the mask, ran around you to create a little vortex of whirlwind, and stopped.

Instead of delivering the smile, you fell, picked up by the gust of air.

"Oh yes!" you yelled, very loud, "that is so badass!"

He picked you up.

"I need to change back", he said, unable to stop grinning, like an idiot. A fraction of a second - and he was in his cloak again, looking at you and your open mouth.

"How could Batman forbid you to tell anybody? Is he your boss or something?"

"Umm... he, like, he's, like a leader. So, yeas, kinda... like a boss, but you know, I am my own boss, of course".

"Of course", you said, laughing.

"And he uh... so, he said... you know, it's generally forbidden for metapeople to disclose their identity, so..."

"I won't tell anyone, Barry, you know that".

"I know, but... well, we gotta live together".

Astonished silence fell on the yard, filling it with the sound of the little fountain.

"...why?" you asked, carefully.

He bit his lower lip.

"Well, so... so that I can monitor you, he said".

"He said?"

"Yes".

"Bruce? I mean Batman?"

He looked at you, suspicious whether you already figured out who Batman was.

"Sometimes he makes my life very difficult, and dictates his own rules, like a tyrant. When I'm supposed to skip college and everythig. But it's for the good, you know".

"No offense, Barry, I really like you, but I don't want to live with you. I just don't want to live with a dude, why would I".

He nodded energetically, almost hysterically,

"Yes, I get it, I ge-e-et it one hunch".

His felt his heart sink. Not that he expected you'd be so smitten with him by now, that you'd be thrilled to move in together. But he expected somewhat of a more ambiguous answer. Good news was, Bruce wouldn't change his mind no matter what. He told Barry all these stories, of dead wives and brothers, and even casual friends and neighbours. At the moment the little, tiny voice of consciousness told him he doesn't appreciate the seriousness of the situation when a civilian knows who he is.
