Chapter three swirls majorly around the theme of leaning on God. Wisdom advises, "trust in the Lord and do not depend on your own understanding". Contrary to popular belief, this does not mean that we should not think for ourselves, but rather that we should not trust wholly on our decisions and perceptions as the final word. As we've seen in chapter one and two, our minds are not that advanced/comprehensive. The human mind cannot bear the full weight of reality. Take it or leave it. We have examples all around us in our lives and in history, the end of those who thought their decisions made more sense than God's recommendations; Adam and Eve, for one. "I can take care of myself better than you know how. You're a cool guy, but I don't want to listen to what you have to say - respectfully." Essentially what we say when we decide to ignore what God says. Here, wisdom begs us to "buy wisdom", "incline your heart to understanding", but where do we find them? From two, we see this: "For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding."
