A sponge reef from the Carboniferous Bear Gulch formation. A pair of female Daidal acanthocercus mantis shrimp forage for food together (some mantis shrimp species form long term monogamous relationship pairs). Echinochimera, a strange chondrichthyan, swims past in the foreground while the elongated Thrinacodus forages between sponges.

Octopus Under the Shelter of Rocks, 1961, by Olga Khludova (1913-1975), Soviet marine biologist & artist, wife of fellow zoologist-artist Nikolai Nikolaevich Kondakov (1908-1999), and apparently one of the first female scuba divers (along with Olga Zhukova) in the USSR? I got the opportunity to create background illustrations for a board game called Endeavor: Deep Sea by Age of Gaming.

The entire game is set underwater, so I got to paint a lot of underwater scenes, animals and submersible vehicles that I had never painted before. It was a fun challenge and it helped me grow a lot artistically.
