I spent my Juneteenth painting Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salua, an avid 19 year old #blacklivesmatter protester who was tragically killed this past week in Florida after tweeting about being sexually assaulted. 🖤My heart just couldn’t stop thinking about her story and passion, so I decided to paint her beautiful face on a new sign. (This might be the beginning of an ongoing series??) ✍️Then she and #georgefloyd joined Juliet & I for the latest #blm rally here in Charlottesville, which ended at the unceremoniously marked spot where enslaved humans were once heartlessly sold. All I could do when sitting in silence on that emotionally charged spot was weep into my mask and pray for our human family to unite in love.🙏 ☮️Protest pic by @brian_wimer . . . #juneteenth #juneteenth2020 #blacklivesaresacred #art #painting #portrait #oluwatoyinsalau #justicefortoyin #toyin #justiceforgeorge #justiceforgeorgefloyd #sayhername #sayhisname #saytheirnames #charlottesville (at Historic Court Square) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBqzoBZlgPC/?igshid=y5bvjbpm2fqf

May his memory be a revolution. #Repost @workingclasshistory with @make_repost ・・・ On this day, 26 February 2012, Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black child, was shot and killed by a neighbourhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida. Martin was born in Florida on February 5, 1995, and later attended Dr Michael M Krop high school where he played sports, and mathematics was said to be his favourite subject. He had a keen interest in aviation and considered becoming a pilot. Initially, Sanford police filed no charges against the killer. But marches and protests had begun breaking out across the United States, and the Black Lives Matter movement was born. As public pressure grew, charges of second-degree murder were eventually filed, but the killer was acquitted. The killer also later sold the gun he used to an anonymous buyer for $250,000, and in 2019 he sued the Martin family and others for $100 million. The case was eventually thrown out of court in February 2022. #trayvonmartin #blacklivesmatter #blm #protectblackchildren #blackchildrenmatter #blacklivesaresacred #thisisamerica #racism #mayhismemorybeablessing #restinpower #trayvon #rip https://www.instagram.com/p/Cacgo4xu7Wu/?utm_medium=tumblr

Quote
But you know, when the Israeli’s pick up guns, or the Poles, or the Irish, or any white man in the world –says ‘give me liberty or give me death’ the entire white world applauds. But a Black man says exactly the same thing. Word for word. He is judged a criminal and treated like one. And everything possible is done to make an example of this bad nigga so there won’t be any more like him. - James Baldwin (1969)

Black Lives Are Sacred
All. Of. Them. Some reading this will say "amen," while others will wince. Examine your response. But the recognition that all black lives are sacred should resolve the politicized controversy for Christians over the use of the phrase "black lives matter" vs. the organization BLM dot com without need for further politicization. Of course, while I don't want to generalize, I would be surprised if a Progressive Christian or two wouldn’t feel tension with that statement. Progressive Christians usually build their theology from their politics (that is the point of identity politics) rather than vice versa (it should be admitted that many conservative Christians tend to do so as well). And there is substantial political investment in the BLM narrative. Any who wince or become triggered at this are exhibiting "Progressive fragility." If Progressives agree they're fragile, that is the first step to recovery. If they disagree here, then they've just proved their fragility; and proven my theory. The mere suggestion that being a "fragile Progressive" has meaning often triggers a range of defensive responses. These include emotions such as anger, fear, guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and withdrawal from the stress-inducing situation. These responses work to reinstate Progressive equilibrium as they repel the challenge, return to Progressive comfort, and maintain dominance within the Progressive hierarchy. I conceptualize this process as Progressive fragility. Read the full article

This is not #JusticeForBreonna. This is a slap in the face. Brett Hankison was charged only for the bullets that missed Breonna Taylor. To show so clearly that property damage outranks Breonna’s life in the eyes of the DA is truly irredeemably disgusting. Defund the Louisville Police Department. Right fucking now. Repost from @naacp • We know what justice is and so we must fight for it as though our lives depend on it - because they do.
