im getting so sick & tired of the internet like even people who generally have decent opinions cant help but fall into these pits of regressing and regressing “this is bad because x” shit that i had 2 fight tooth and nail to not let my ocd make worse & worse but has been the primary internet argument policy for like a decade now, and so much content creation thrives on negativity and criticism ppl are grasping at straws. shits exhausting

heartless is so good!!! i won't go into it too much from fear of spoiling it for you, but there was a delicious twist. i think especially that the world building was nice--- ofc, it's a borrowed tale from alice in wonderland, but the author had a way of bringing it to life in her own special way. i purchased it back in my freshman year of hs, and my copy has survived my yearly [box and donate whatever i won't reread] bookshelf purge.
it was a pretty quick and easy read, given the fast-paced flow. whenever you get around to reading it, be sure to share your thoughts with me!
i will!!! <3
i bought it after i finished meyer’s lunar chronicles, bc i loved her writing style & worldbuilding so much. and i am. a sucker for alice in wonderland retellings. (i went through an entire AIW phase in eighth/ninth grade, fun times xD)
i definitely have been meaning to get to it, it’s been sitting on my shelf for… years.

It's funny how when Normal People by Sally Rooney first came out, it was seen as, like, this amazing piece of literary fiction that was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and put on university reading lists and raved about by literary critics. And then booktok discovered it, and now it's seen basically as trashy YA that's on par with Colleen Hoover books

i like fucked up families in genre fiction because at my core i’m an optimist who wants to believe that healing is possible n cycles can be broken as long as everybody wants that to be true however when it comes to fucked up families in contemporary settings it’s a bit more like ehhh i can just jimmy neutron flashback through my own memories thanks can we get back to talking abt what it would be like if this was caused by aliens

A companion novel to Say I'm the One and Let Me Love You

Reeve, an all-new emotional, angsty, new adult romance, and the fourth book in the All of Me Series, from USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Siobhan Davis is now available!
My Review Reeve is a hauntingly beautiful journey through childhood to adulthood. It took us through why Reeve changed so much. Yes, I cried, but I also laughed and smiled while reading.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to travel thru Reeve’s journey. We only had Viv’s hurt. I will say after finishing I am so glad I did because even if he made the wrong decisions we got to see what he was going through. I found myself lost in their childhood, screaming thru their present, and so sad knowing where we end up.
The epilogue was everything. We had only seen that scene from Viv’s point of view, and it was beautiful to see it from Reeve’s. It was more than beautiful. It was what we all hope for in the end.

Vivien Grace Mills has been the center of my universe since the second she entered this world.
Every memory I hold precious includes her.
She’s my biggest champion and the one person keeping me sane during some of the most testing times of my life.
Vivien shows me what it means to love and be loved.
I know she’s the one from an early age.
When I land my dream role, plans for our future are finally coming true.
Until everything falls apart, leaving a complicated trail of broken, scarred hearts and long-lasting consequences.
I messed up: I failed her. I failed me.
I won’t rest until the only woman I love is back in my arms.
Nothing or no one will stop me from reclaiming her heart. Not my manipulative costar, my greedy agent, or the backstabbing studio publicist.
And especially not him.
My determination and patience are successful, and Vivien is back where she belongs.
I finally have the family I have craved my entire life.
But I sacrificed so much for my poor decisions, and I’m not finished paying the price.

Sitting on my bed, fresh from my post-workout shower, I clear my throat and press record on my phone. “Hey, guys. Today is a very special day, because on this day eighteen years ago, the most important person in my life was born.”
I fight a smirk as I hold up the cutest baby picture of Vivien. Lauren sent me a few after I told her I wanted to record a birthday video. My girl is probably gonna string me up by the balls for sharing this publicly, but I want the world to know I love her and how much she means to me. I can’t think of a more perfect way to do that.
Plus, I’m missing her big-time today. This is the first time I have missed her birthday, and I’m all up in my feels. If I can’t be with her, I still want her to know how much I adore her. I want her to feel surrounded by my love even if I’m thousands of miles away. I already got confirmation the lavender roses I sent her were delivered, and Moira confirmed she dropped my gift off at the house last night and her parents will give it to her today.
“I wouldn’t be the man I am today if it wasn’t for this gorgeous, smart, funny, compassionate, loving woman,” I add, holding up a different photo. This pic is one we took while in Big Bear in January. We are wrapped up in one other, both sporting matching wide smiles for the camera. “Have you ever loved someone so much it physically pains you to be apart from them?” A tight pain spreads across my chest, confirming my words. I rub at the pain, but it does nothing to alleviate the perpetual ache for my girl. “As much as I am loving bringing Camden Marshall to life, I am missing my baby so much.”
Emotion swirls inside me as I lean in closer to the screen, speaking these next words directly to my love. “I love you, Viv. You are the best thing to ever happen to me, and I don’t even care that the guys are going to give me shit for this.” I blow her a kiss. “You are my world, and I wish I could be there to hug you and kiss you. Only twenty-seven days until I see you again. I can’t wait. Till then, have the happiest of birthdays, my love.” I blow her one final kiss before ending the recording and pressing publish. I like the thought she will wake up and see my message first thing.
Predictably, when I show up on set, the guys give me a ton of shit for my “sappy” birthday message.
“Look what I dug up online.” Rudy smirks as he holds out his cell phone while we are assembled around one long table in the cafeteria eating breakfast.
“Where the hell did you get that?” I swipe the phone from his hands so I can look at the picture up close. It was taken the night we attended our first Harry Potter premiere together, and I remember it as if it was yesterday.
“It’s amazing what you can find when you google shit. There are tons of pics of you and Viv from when you were kids. I see what you mean now. There’s no way you can hide your relationship from fans, and I don’t think you should. You two are the ultimate Hollywood love story. I think fans will eat that shit up.” A fake swoony expression coasts over his face as he places one hand over his heart. “Even my cynical ass believes in the dream.”
Pity my agent and the studio publicist don’t share that sentiment. I have tried making the same argument, but they are not listening to me.

Forsyth Turn is not a hero. Lordling of Turn Hall and Lysse Chipping, yes. Spymaster for the king, certainly. But hero? That’s his older brother’s job, and Kintyre Turn is nothing if not legendary. However, when a raid on the kingdom’s worst criminal results in the rescue of a bafflingly blunt woman, oddly named and even more oddly mannered, Forsyth finds his quaint, sedentary life is turned on its head. Dragged reluctantly into a quest he never expected, and fighting villains that even his brother has never managed to best, Forsyth is forced to confront his own self-shame and the demons that come with always being second-best. And, more than that, when he finally realizes where Lucy came from and why she’s here, he’ll be forced to question not only his place in the world, but the very meaning of his own existence. new drama
Having spent five minutes researching PR firms and how they operate, I think it's safe to say that a reputable firm would never encourage illicit behavior on behalf of their client. I also feel- although I don't have proof of this- that a reputable firm would run any campaign (especially one with questionable morality) past their client before enacting it. Especially if they were directing people to send stuff to the author's email address. Like, you don't put a campaign on blast with the goal of getting tons of submissions without warning the client of a possible incoming flood of emails.
Personally, if I was going to run a promotion on someone's behalf, I'd also set up a promotion-specific email so that A) submissions wouldn't get lost and B) my client wouldn't have to worry about missing any important personal/work emails amid all the submissions.
JD Barker is a "sexy horror" author. He has a new book coming out. As is common when a new book is coming out, there's a campaign to try and encourage reviews. In this case the campaign is trying to encourage young women booktokkers to do their reviews in the nude. There are multiple options and they're phrased as "suggestions" rather than requirements, but there is the matter of payment involved. And if you want to get paid you need to send your video directly to the author for review so he can decide if it gets approved or rejected.
If you think that sounds a little sketchy, you aren't the only one. Mr. Barker is currently disavowing all knowledge of this campaign and saying it's entirely the fault of one of the "many" PR firms he uses. Twitter users seem to think that the PR firm in question is one that he himself was involved in creating, but I'm not sure that makes any difference from a professional standpoint.
I can see three possibilities here.
Someone at the PR firm has a specific beef against Barker and decided to try and torpedo his career (along with their own).
The PR firm is grossly incompetent, did no due diligence, and has fucked this up beyond all reason.
Barker is lying, it was his idea all along, and now that he's been caught he's throwing an unspecified PR firm to the wolves in an attempt to save his own ass.
No matter how this plays out, it's a bad, bad look. Especially since, from what I've read, there was no attempt to verify the ages of the women/girls who received these emails. Asking adults to send nudes for money is bad enough, but asking (or "suggesting") potentially underage girls to pose nude for you is, well, I'm pretty sure you all know how revolting that is.
Maybe the vague phrasing will be enough to keep it from becoming a criminal investigation, but this is still sketchy as hell and I hope the responsible parties face some serious repercussions.
