If we were to seriously consider a Protag Swap AU, then most of the protags are fucked.
Let's consider P5 for this scenario, since its the most well-known story. The protags considered are Naoya, Tatsuya, Maya, Minato, Kotone, and Yu (and remember, the events of P5 also shape them as they go). Of course, all of them defended the woman and got sued.
I can see everyone but Maya becoming friends with Ryuji and Ann. Those two would get babysitter vibes from Maya instead of reliable older sister (sorry, queen, but maybe you shouldn't have unironically adviced them to Live, Laugh, Love. You're also not a student and have nothing to do with Shujin). We only have Naoya, Tatsuya, Minato, Kotone, and Yu left.
Out of all of them, only Minato, Kotone and Yu would give Akechi the time of day. The rest were either weirded out by his attitude, too annoyed by his plastic smile, or decided it wasn't worth it to get too close to someone investigating the Phantom Thieves (or all of them at the same time). Without the Akechi confidant, the others lost a lot of intel and clues the Phantom Thieves actually got to put the pieces of the mystery together and an ally for the Third Semester.
Kotone never began the Kawakami confidant due to not being invited to Operation Maidwatch. Shame, because she would have reacted a lot like Akira did in lots of main events. I also don't want to put her through the interrogation torture.
Now that I think about it, Yu would have been a smidge more reluctant about the regular Change of Hearts business that the Phantom Thieves undertook. If the circumstances and story aligns, he would go with it in the end, but the entire story and general vibes wouldn't have the same impact than when Akira did it. Minato's Joker is a bit more stoic and way less flashy and passionate about the Phantom Thieves' mission, seeing more like a necessary duty.
In the end, only Akira could do it.

Rose Recaps 2023 - Japan
So, because I have a hard time making big lists and choosing favourites, this my version of a superlative post, by country.
The one that had me at the first frame
If It’s With You | Kimi to Nara Koi wo Shite Mite mo
Tumblr media
As soon as Amane appeared on screen I was gone. This damaged but confident boy had my heart from the beginning. But it was Ryuji that ended up with a bigger piece by the end. The way he saw Amane’s mask from the beginning and just went – “you don’t need to do that with me”. And the way he considered Amane’s feelings even when he wasn’t sure what to do or how to respond, or how he was feeling about all of it, was just beautiful to witness and at certain points kinda reminded of Ida.
Favourite Moment: Amane confessing and running away. Because visually it's so striking. The way he's running from the light that is Ryuji.
The one that was perfect and I never saw coming.
I Cannot Reach You | Kimi ni wa Todokanai
Tumblr media
I think that by now at least some people know how I feel about Japanese BL. I love it so much. And for me it’s always about the characters. Whether they are the embodiment of chaos, like Aoki or they are just incredible complex and empathic humans like Ida. - Yes, I’m using Kieta Hatsukoi every chance I get- I just love the way all these characters are written and portrait.
I loved these 2 boys in equal measure all throughout the show. I might have a soft spot for Yamato, but that’s only because pining boys are my weakness.
Yamato’s back and forth in his own head about what to do would be annoying to me in any other show, but it was so well done, and we were privy to his thought process throughout that it just made me feel for him deeply. And Kakeru learning about Yamato’s feelings right away in the first episode was a great choice, because he gave the show time to make the reciprocity more believable.
Favourite Moment - The exchange of gifts at the door. I love the nervousness that the two of them are feeling in this moment.
The one where I gave in.
My Beautiful Man S2 & Eternal
Tumblr media
Confession time. This was not love at first season for me. I don’t argue quality overall and much less the acting of the show, but it just didn’t click for me.
There were some truly great moments in the first season but there was a disconnect between my heart and my brain. This happens to me sometimes. Like I watch something that is objectively good but it doesn’t reach me.
That all changed with the second season and the film. I finally connect with Hira. Don't ask me why, I don't fully understand myself, but it happened right at the beginning of the season. I think perhaps it was because I started seeing more from Kiyoi pov, because before I was absolutely clueless about what he saw in Hira in the first place. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
I don't blame the show for this, as I said, I think all the elements are there, it just didn't connect for me.
Also, the film was gorgeous to watch. Several moments (specially the sequence where the gif is from) were so well shot and edited that I'm happy I went in already with a positive mindset.
Favourite Moment: The one from the gif. I'm a sucker for a drastic visual change when the moment calls for it.
The one that had me question if watching it was good for my mental health.
Tokyo in April is | Shigatsu no Tokyo wa
Tumblr media
Ok. I love this show. I love Ren. But this was a hard watch for me. Every week I had a struggle between two sides of me.
- Don’t watch it. It will be sad and you will be sad because of it. - But the last one was sad so I need to watch it to see if there’s happy. - Why not just wait? - Because I started already, so now I can’t wait. - But in this case binging is best. Cause for sure the ending is happy so you won’t be sad for long. - Yeah, but I need to see more now. And there’s a new episode waiting for me. - Fine. Just press play. After the episode. - I really shouldn’t watch this one live. (all this repeats the following week)
It was beautifully acted, there were some outstanding moments, the past was as tastefully done as it could be given the subject matter, and in the end my heart of full, but slightly damaged with the process.
Favourite Moment: Ren finding out Kazuma had been looking for him.
The one with all the magic.
What Did You Eat Yesterday? | Kinou Nani Tabeta? S2
Tumblr media
I already wrote how this show made me feel in another post. So I’ll just say this.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH THIS SHOW. NOW. If you haven’t, stop reading this and go. GO. NOW. Start.
There is magic here and you don’t even know.
Favourite Moment: ALL OF THEM. But really this one.
Tumblr media
Shiro. Just Shiro.
Well, I'll try to write the next one in these next couple of days. Wish me luck.
Thanks for reading💜

Round 1 | Poll 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~ Note: This poll is being done out of a genuine love and affection for these types of characters! Please keep that in mind when adding commentary.
Propaganda under the cut!
Ryuji:
~ Likes to talk loudly in public spaces about the illegal things he and his friends are doing.
~ He’s a little shit - he is super talkative, very obnoxious, has dumb catchphrases and never thinks before he acts. He is weirdly unpopular in the jpn fanbase and is constantly beaten up in canon and fanon, but he’s pretty well loved in the western fandom!
~ He’s a little slow on the uptick and has a tendency to talk first think later. He’s also a lot less aware of his surroundings, once accidentally outing himself as a Phantom Thief to someone (yes she ended up being a good guy and joined them but still). He’s also a part of a fairly annoying plot point when one member of the team goes missing thanks partially due to his actions, though the fandom has mostly forgiven him for that.
Tamaki:
~ Omfggg where to begin Tamaki thinks hes the main character of a romance anime and like true but he also really annoying. And makes puppy dog eyes every time he wants something. The host club mostly ignore him when hes talking about how beautiful he is even though hes the club president
~ Pretty much all the main characters admit to finding him annoying because he can be silly and overly dramatic.
~ He is completely oblivious to everything going on around him and he is rich and doesn't understand anything about regular life
~ Dear god EVERYTHING about this man is Blond and Annoying. I love him <3
~ Literally the entire show and everyone in the cast thinks hes annoying af [ included a youtube link that i unfortunately had to omit because this won't show up in the tags otherwise </3 ]
~ Tamaki is the most insufferable motherfucker in the world. He’s homophobic. He thinks he’s hot shit. He’s stupid. He talks too much. He sulks endlessly when upset. He has no boundaries at all. His only skills are piano and flirting. He insists that the gnc female lead should be more feminine frequently (for a very long time anyway, he stops eventually). Said lead’s first impression of him was “obnoxious.” For these reasons be brings me joy.
~ "It's not everyday God creates a perfect person like moi, beautiful both inside and out." Loves romance but can't recognize his own feelings as romantic. He thinks of his emotions towards Haruhi as "fatherly love" and therefore refers to himself as her "daddy".
~ cmon this is the Ouran website. tamaki sweep. he is Exhausting god bless
~ overdramatic stupid self-obsessed rich boy (affectionate)

EMOTIONAL RYUJI RANT !!!
keep in mind that some of these statements are generalized and blanket statements. Everyone goes through recovery and trauma differently and this does not define the Recovery Experience. This comes from my own experience and why i can relate to Ryuji.
tw for alcoholism & abuse,
I feel like, along side Ann, Ryuji and his story is often forgotten — even to Atlus — and he just becomes the Comedic Relief, The MCs Best Friend, The Meathead and it’s super upsetting for me because his story is the one that stayed with me the most since my first play through of the game in 2018.
Ryuji is called “annoying” often because of his joking nature, it’s hard for him to have a moment of seriousness and when that seriousness is directed at him (i.e that argument in september that leads to Okumura’s palace) he gets defensive and angry, when he does he gets treated as a meathead with no scope of emotion.
Must i remind you that Ryuji is a survivor of abuse. His father was a raging alcoholic that beat both him and his mother and then eventually his father was no longer in the picture. The way he acts is all out of subconscious self preservation.
When living with an abusive parent or partner, any emotion from the victim is considered a threat to the abuser, any form of taking up space is disrespect, any mention that they have these emotions is considered an attack against the abuser and thus the victim will no longer bring up how they feel, they will become uncomfortable in serious situations out of fear that they will be harmed if it’s given attention. It’s only understandable that Ryuji gets defensive or brushes everything off as a joke — because that is the only way he can see himself surviving.
Ryuji’s story is a story of surviving abuse and learning how to live with your past while focusing on the future. Ryuji’s story is about trauma recovery.
I understand why Ryuji gets angry easily. Everyone recovers differently, but for me at least my recovery is often going through a lot of anger, anger that the people that were supposed to care for me didn’t, anger that no one noticed that these things are happening, anger that i never spoke up about it and asked for help until much later on. That anger can also manifest from a place of fear, which can also be seen in Ryuji; he’s afraid of being like his father, of turning to the things that his father did and ultimately continuing the cycle of abuse and possibly generational trauma. Anger is a large part of recovery and to say that his outbursts are annoying is ultimately ignoring that he is a survivor of parental abuse and that is disrespectful.
Ryuji deserved a better confidant arc and, in general, better writers. His story — other than his experience with Kamoshida — is barely mentioned and it feels as though Atlus is expecting its audience to understand every face of Ryuji’s personality through one small sprinkle of “my dad abused my mother and i” that is rarely spoken about again, which is not possible unless someone has lived through a similar situation.
Ryuji deserved better and i will forever live by that statement.
from,
offical ryuji kinnie

here’s a random one:
you did the boys and watching spooky movies w their s/o,
so how about the boys taking their s/o on a date to the movies? what types of movies fo they prefer, who’s getting what snacks, etc?
HELL yea, I'm a huge movie fan and I collect DVD so I lowkey spent time going through my collection wondering which ones the boys would watch lol. Each entry in this list is on the shorter side but I tried to include as many of the lads as possible here, enjoy!
Kiryu Kazuma
Not a big fan of movie dates as he prefers actual one-on-one time and interactions but does enjoy going to see a movie occassionally in a serious relationship. Likes action movies for the most part, partial to samurai dramas as well.
Majima Goro
Whatever you do, do not take his ass to the theater cuz he will not shut up during the movie. Even if he begs, do not give in, just make him watch the movie at home. Popcorn fiend, can eat an entire large bucket in one sitting. Will watch anything but he HAS to be entertained, that's the one rule.
Saejima Taiga
Thinks a movie and dinner date is cute as he can talk about the movie after. Almost never gets snacks at the theater but will buy some to share if you really want some. He likes westerns or samurai flicks. Romances make him cry sometimes.
Akiyama Shun
Secretly a rom-com enjoyer. Will hold your hand during the movie. Not big on snacks but almost always buys a drink of some kind. Romance movies and dramas are good choices for him. Likes anything with pretty cinematography and pretty music.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Fond of animated movies, both domestic and foreign. Prefers TV shows over movies since they're easier to get into on his days off work. Actually doesn't like buddy cop movies, finds them annoying or innaccurate. Serious crime dramas are okay but be warned he will have a lot of comments afterwards. ALSO he sneaks snacks into theaters. Most theaters never carry what he wants anyways.
Nishikiyama Akira
Likes a good movie date on occassion, but only if there's something both of you really want to see. Buys snacks to share, totally holds the popcorn bucket in his lap so you have to reach over to get some. His movie taste is kind of all over the place; one week he'll want to see a musical and next week he'll want to see an action movie.
Ryuji Goda
Not super into movie dates because he's usually super busy and he tends to fall asleep in them a LOT. He prefers dates that have the two of you doing something together, not just sitting in a dark room. He WILL however chow down on some snacks. You do have to stop him from going overboard on the popcorn butter...
Daigo Dojima
Same boat as Ryuji for similar reasons, although he'll gladly watch a movie at home with you as an indoor date, especially if it's bad weather out. Prefers oldies and classics; think Seven Samurai, Casablanca, etc. Watches them to try to get an understanding of what makes them so important, as he finds that aspect most interesting. Not snobby about it though; if he doesn't get it, he'll straight up be like "... THAT'S the movie people keep raving about?!"
Mine Yoshitaka
Sick horny bastard is into a movie date in the idea that you are in a dark room with him, teehee. He's not ALWAYS like that but he will try to get it on during a movie with you at least once. If he's actually going to watch the movie, it's crime thrillers for him. Loves a good, brooding atmosphere.
Tatsuo Shinada
With how expensive tickets are these days, his ass cannot afford to go to the theater often so it's very much a special treat. He also sneaks in his own snacks... likes comedies and 80's movies the most.
Ichiban Kasuga
Bless his heart but he cannot stay awake in a movie theater for the life of him... it's just so comfy in there. At home he actually has a better chance of staying awake, somehow. But still, it's not the best option for him and he knows it. Most fond of superhero or action movies though.
Yu Nanba
Doesn't watch a lot of movies or keep up on what's trendy so you'll likely have to suggest a movie date. Watches some documentaries at home by himself though. Pretty open minded otherwise.
Adachi Koichi
Lots of comedies or action movies for Adachi. Enjoys movies pretty frequently and likes going out to see them with you. Snacks are a must if it's a blockbuster movie. That's the rule, he claims.
Tianyou Zhao
Down to see a movie now and then but he does kind of get fidgety if he's not fully entertained. Also sits funny in movie theater chairs. He's a little embarassed to admit it due to how stereotypical it sounds but he likes movies with lots of cool stunt work or martial arts. Things like The Raid or John Wick are fun for him.
Joon-Gi Han
Kind of a human trash can in that you can make him watch just about anything. Not super into popcorn but WILL eat a whole bag of candy by himself if you don't watch out. It's not that his sweettooth is even that bad; he just kind of does it absentmindedly. Never talks during movies, ever.
Osamu Kashiwagi
Likes arthouse and underground films; if it's something he's never heard of, he will want to try it just to see if it's interesting. Also likes to check out local filmmakers or festivals if he can make it. He would love for you to join him!

Polythieves Mug Collection (Part 2)
Last time, on the collection of mugs at the phantom thieves' household: it was very sweet and sappy, with themed choices for their code names.
You can find it here
THIS TIME
It's time for more gifts, memes, being silly, and finding weird mugs
This is absolutely one of Akira's favorites
Tumblr media
Yusuke, meanwhile has this set of mugs
(The coffee goes in the one labeled "paint water" while "not paint water" is, in fact, the paint water)
Tumblr media
Yusuke and Ann both have matching "Hot Chick" mugs, as well
Tumblr media
The thieves love to fight over this one, Akira gives it to whoever has done Hot Girl Shit the most recently. He likes giving it to Sumi, but the others all compete to win it
Tumblr media
Someone outside the polycule mistakes Ryuji for being straight, and soon enough he gets to be the DILF holder. They have 0 children when he gets this mug
Tumblr media
Another popular one! Akira hands it to anyone else with the joke "I've never had anxiety in my life" and then it's promptly that person's turn to smack him for such a bold-faced lie
Tumblr media
Makoto. It's very true.
Tumblr media
A gift for Ryuji, another favorite of his
Tumblr media
Yusuke finds the jug (jean mug) at a qaint roadside market and instantly falls in love with it. He knows exactly what do to with it. He presents it to Futaba.
Futaba (very much a trans girl) goes "Well it would be nice to finally have jugs" and Yusuke completely missed that implication until then
Tumblr media
This one goes to Yusuke. Obviously
Tumblr media
And another for Makoto!
Tumblr media
A joke spiraled out of control ends up with Akira being the sexy senior citizen, after Yusuke jokingly calls him "grandfather" once
Tumblr media
Often given to Haru, or whoever has commited the most recent Women's Wrongs
Tumblr media
Another of Akira's favorites. He lets Morgana steal it sometimes
Tumblr media
It's very important to note that certain mugs can be chosen and used to send messages to other thieves depending on circumstances, for instance:
Dick. Either Akira is mildly pissed at the person, or he's flirting. Potentially both!
Tumblr media
if he is VERY annoyed, they might face this mug
Tumblr media
Though the one with the bee movie script is a good indicator if he's annoyed. Or if the person he's giving it to is Yusuke. Yusuke loves literally every weird mug ever
Tumblr media
When Goro Akechi is around, especially early on after he shows back up, Akira gives him the "Guess I'll die" mug. He might be a little mad about the constant deaths.
Tumblr media
Which, however, is not as bad as THIS ONE, a favorite, that Akira was holding when he encountered Marki one time. He does throw it, it does hurt, it does break on the ground. He's justified
(They get a new one later)
Tumblr media
Morgana also gets Catmander in Chief
Tumblr media
Akira passive-aggressively drinks from this mug when Goro is around
Tumblr media
Shrek mug. No one will admit to buying it and placing it there. (It was Sumi, she's so proud of not being caught yet)
Tumblr media
This one OFTEN goes to Ann
Tumblr media
A VERY fun one for Haru
Tumblr media
They actually get Akira this during that period of time where he's legally dead
Tumblr media
This one is just so funny it has to be there
Tumblr media
Goro gets the Official Left Handers mug
Tumblr media
This one for sure goes to Futaba
Tumblr media
Sometimes you do not question the mug. It says run, you run. It goes to Ryuji
Tumblr media
And Of course, last but CERTAINLY not least,
World's greatest slut.
Tumblr media
(Akira always tries to keep it, but SOME PEOPLE demand their turn)
Most mugs taken from @shiftythrifting or like, the internet at large.
I am at image limit and currently out of mugs to share but if I find more then more may come! If others want to contribute PLEASE do so!

yayyy the askbox is back!
so... remember the photographer ask for ryuji and yusuke? what about like. some sort of fashion designer s/o? and s/o wants them to try on their clothing for them?? and uhhh sorry if this is too much but i realized ann would also be GREAT to throw into this mix LOL
happy writing!!!
Fandom: Persona 5
Character(s): Ann Takamaki, Ryuji Sakamoto, Yusuke Kitagawa
Note(s): Here you go!!
Tumblr media
Ann
She's had small deals before where she'd model clothes and then get some designed specifically for her, nothing too big though and definitely no big brands. But for her S/O to offer to design her clothing, she jumps at the opportunity.
For one thing, she is trying to be a more serious model so having clothes specifically designed for her would help her feel more comfortable with posing and getting the feel for things. For another thing, if she can take good selfies and stuff in the clothes that her S/O makes then hopefully it'll give her S/O some recognition too. Seems like a win/win to Ann.
Ann is used to posing and having measurements taken so she probably has most of her sizes memorized, which is helpful for you to get started. She can't help but be a bit like an excitable kid as she asks you all kinds of questions like what material you'll use, what types of clothing you'll make, if you need her to lend her any cash for anything. She'll try not to be too annoying with her questions, but she's just really excited.
Ryuji
Ryuji has a really cool punk style thing going and he doesn't really realize it. He just likes what he wears, not realizing that he looks good wearing it (I mean, he hopes he does, but most of the time he throws something on so he's not late to school).
So when his S/O offers to design him some clothes based on his style, it does throw him for a bit of a loop. The idea of getting his own clothes designed by his S/O sounds a bit too good to be true. And as long as it's free, then he'd be glad to agree!
It's a bit awkward for him with trying on his clothes and acting like a model for his S/O to get an idea of how to design new clothing for him. He suddenly understands how tough Ann's job must be. And seeing you sketch things out or come and take measurements makes him feel more awkward and a bit flustered depending on where you have to measure.
Yusuke
This boy doesn't even realize how aesthetically pleasing his outfits are. Sure, he wears some funky stuff now and then, but he's still very nice to look at. Yusuke does have an eye for art so it makes sense that his clothing matches or have the same color schemes as others to pair them. But he also doesn't have a lot of money so he doesn't have a lot of new clothing.
Which is when you offer to design him some. Yusuke doesn't really know what that process entails, but it sounds like another form of art and he's happy to help you with creating it. He also asks you many questions throughout the whole process too.
Is thrown for a bit of a loop when you have him model the outfits that he does have. He's never really been the muse for anything, but he supposes that this lets him know how those that he draws feels. Might ask you if you'd prefer him to be nude when you take measurements (feels flustered at the idea even though he tries to remind himself that it is in the name of art). Is a bit relieved when you don't need him to strip that much.

The Phantom thieves+Akechi meeting a young teen (11-13) Reader who is persona user and was hare longer then the phantom Thieves (before Ren came to Tokyo month or two) HC pls
Your wish is my command
Fandom: Persona 5
________
To be honest, none of them really saw it coming. Except Akechi maybe, as he had access to the metaverse when he was 15. Someone younger wouldn't surprise him in the slightest truly.
The other thieves, though, were a little bit in shock. Ryuji kept asking questions, making you very uncomfortable as you were a lot younger than them. Perhaps a year younger than Futaba and Sumire?
They basically forced you to surrender your phone so they would believe you. And yep, the app was there. Ren thought that it might be because Yaldabaoth chose you first instead of Akechi, but you really just happened to enter the Metaverse because Akechi wasn't aware of his surroundings the first time he entered, dragging you with him.
Of course you didn't awaken to your persona until you realized you had been done dirty. Your awakening happened in the real world instead of the metaverse because you weren't in the Metaverse when you realized it.
Ann suggested to teach you about all the stuff as you never really went back in the Metaverse unless you were scared or annoyed by people.
Yusuke went straight to the point and asked you what you thought of the beauty of Mementos, what made Makoto shut him up and actually made the others back down for a bit.
Futaba however was a bit more energetic and confused as to why she didn't pick up your readings when they explored the Metaverse. Sumire had to calm her down and apologized to you.
Ren was just wondering why you couldn't join the Phantom Thieves (Makoto says you are to young)
Then you have Haru who was thinking the same as Futaba and kinda saw you as a threat because it's not the first time someone lied to them about the metaverse

For the character asks, 3 and 8 with Joker and/or Yusuke?
my boy how am i supposed to trash on my boyyyyyyy
okay
Yusuke 3- the starving artist gag. I've seen fandom take this and turn it into something actually good before where yusuke struggles with food insecurity and lack of knowledge on how to budget because of madarame's abuse. However, in the game its just a running joke that "haha artists are always starving and poor" and I HATE IT. As an artist it feels like more of the rhetoric I see daily that convinces people that there is no value in pursuing art, and that the people who do are fools for going down a "path to poverty." Also the game's weird bit about nude modeling is annoying too. I work with nude models in class and there is never anything sexy about it. I just hhhhhhh
Yusuke 8: When fandom treats him only as the comedic background character who has no personality outside of lobster and broke. Or just shoves him into a random side ship to be background in their beloved shuake. mans deserves real love! dedicated yusuke ship content i love you!
Joker Time
Joker 3- every cutscene where they have him be weird to the girls with ryuji my beloathed. I don't have a lot of issues with him. my only major complaint is that more couldve been done with his reputation as a criminal within the narrative.
Joker 8- everybody's interpretation of his personality is different, so its a little ehhhh? on nitpicks i have of him within fandom. Most of my nitpicks pretain to like specifically shuake interpretations of joker and how he is in that dynamic. But I think if i bash on the shuake door too much, people are gonna get upset with me. Angsty Harem Joker is the worst fandom interpretation of him imo anyways.

been thinking about persona and its depiction of motherhood. or: what it doesn't depict.
this started with me being annoyed that there is yet another dead saintly mother in persona 5 tactica. then I started considering: wait, when are persona mothers not saintly? when are persona mothers human? and the answer is: almost never.
I cast my mind back, thinking over all of the prominent depictions of mothers in the series. I think the one that stands out the most to me is Maki's mother in Persona 1. She loves her daughter unconditionally, but she also screws up sometimes, and doesn't spend enough time with her sickly daughter in the hospital, causing her daughter to resent her.
After that, the next one I can think of is Junko, from Persona 2. She isn't nearly as prominent as Maki's mother is in the narrative, but her focus on beauty over her child is certainly something of note that I wish the story had explored more (even if, as a girl who married a teacher and gave birth a short span of years later, as far as I remember, her obsession with her beauty and youth is understandable). In the end she seems to regret her actions and how they affected Jun.
Then we have Yukari's mother, Persona 3, who Yukari doesn't get along with due to how they dealt differently with her father's death. It's a big rift between the two that only slowly begins to heal, and that shows that both sides are human and how they were hurt and split apart by a tragedy that they might have better dealt with together.
After that... We have very little. What mother figure exists in Persona 4? We have Nanako's mother, who died tragically but is referred to as a loving and wonderful woman. What mother figure exists in Persona 5? We have Akechi's mother, who died tragically but is referred to as a loving and wonderful woman. Same with Wakaba, who is distorted by Futaba's perception of her, but is ultimately a kind and loving mother. Persona 5 Strikers? Akane's mother. Persona 5 Tactica? Toshiro's mother.
If we consider the Confidants, in Persona 5 we do have Shinya's mother, who... is overprotective, yes, but also loves her son very dearly. There is no resentment, merely concern that goes too far.
There are many absent or missing mothers in Persona, all of whom are said to have been loving and kind and wonderful woman. Several times, people will repeat lines about the unconditional and wonderful love of a mother. There are so many loving and kind and wonderful mothers that it seems like recent Persona games take for granted this idea that "mothers will always love their children", which seems rather ridiculous when compared to the presence of abusive fathers (Akechi, Ryuji, Akira in Strikers, and now Toshiro).
This sort of double standard, wherein lines about the unconditional love of a mother, even when their children come from men who are cruel or unkind to them, are spouted whilst men are shown to be abusive, annoys me. It is as if women must have some sort of inherent goodness, some inherent quality of motherhood which men lack, that makes men more prone to abuse.
The Persona series is no stranger to having issues with gender - look at the depiction of drag in Persona 4 and 5, the one-off transgender woman in Persona 3 who was depicted as predatory, the trans NPC in Persona 2 who wants to rip men's dicks off - but I don't think people often talk about how it choose, in recent years, time and time again, to depict mothers as holy saints.
I was playing Tactica, watching Futaba insist on the love of mothers and Toshiro's cognition of his dead mother insist that she loved him dearly, and I thought: why? Why is this trope of the saintly dead mother so pervasive in recent Persona games?
I hope it stops soon.

The Japanese Cultural Significance Behind Older Ignis’ Hairstyle
Tumblr media
this is something i’ve touched upon a couple times before, but i felt like going a bit more in-depth and i have 24/7 blorbo brain, so here we go
for those who are unaware, the pompadour is a bit of an infamous hairstyle in Japan (taken from Wikipedia):
Tumblr media
it actually first rose to popularity in the 50s-60s...
Tumblr media
...and remained that way on and off up until the early 2000s.
Tumblr media
(source is this article, which has a lot more great examples, but unfortunately is also pretty full of annoying ads, lol)
a lot of notable thug-type characters sported the pompadour hairstyle in anime/manga from the late 80s - early 90s...
Tumblr media
...and the stereotype is still used in more modern anime, too.
Tumblr media
but the way i first learned of the hairstyle’s significance was through the manga Shonan Junai Gumi (precursor to the more popular Great Teacher Onizuka series), where protagonists Eikichi & Ryuji...
Tumblr media
...choose to purposely get rid of their pompadours so they can start trying to pick up women (it’s a shonen series from 1990, just bear with me):
Tumblr media
but as soon as they step outside, they get challenged by some punks...
Tumblr media
...and immediately fix their hair back up so they can participate in the fight.
Tumblr media
it’s a huge statement on what it means to be a stereotypical “delinquent” in Japan (obviously taken to the extreme in this case for humor’s sake, but it’s a joke that’s intended to be immediately understood by the audience).
so, what does any of this have to do with Ignis Scientia?
of all the Chocobros, Ignis is definitely the most straight-laced. he’s had the responsibility of being Noctis’ caretaker from a very young age (six years old!) and prides himself on being the most practical of the group, making sure everyone eats healthy and stays out of danger. he drives the car, he manages the money...at 22 years old, he is wise beyond his years, and often joked to be the only true “adult” on the team.
but even as a teenager, Ignis looked far older than his age (pictured here at only 17):
Tumblr media
quite the opposite of any of the thugs seen above, young Ignis dressed for his role as a servant of the Royal Family and never acted much like any “typical” teenager. in fact, in his Brotherhood episode, he’s already learning to take on some of the King’s parental responsibilities towards Noctis as Regis’ health noticeably declines...certainly not what one would expect of the normal adolescent experience.
Ignis didn’t really have a childhood (another topic i’ve frequently touched upon), and that’s part of what makes his post-timeskip hairstyle so interesting. instead of keeping his “cockatiel” hair from the main game or simply letting his hair stay down, 32 year old Ignis specifically chose a pompadour:
Tumblr media
i’ve often seen it said that Older Ignis looks younger than 22 year old Ignis, and that’s absolutely true. but it’s more than just the softness of his features; it’s that Older Ignis sports a hairstyle you’d normally expect to see on a teenage punk.
given the very little information we have about the 10 Years of Darkness (laziness on the developers’ part imho, but i digress), i consider Older Ignis’ choice of hairstyle to be a significant clue to how he carries himself in the World of Ruin.
here is an Ignis who has accepted the consequences of his decision to wear the Ring, who has gained newfound confidence and stubbornly trained himself to navigate through an endlessly dark world. here is an Ignis who taught himself to hunt again, taught himself to cook again, who has honed his other senses to the point where he can fend for himself in a daemon-infested nightmare that would probably send a less-disciplined person running to their death. 32 year old Ignis quite literally rebelled against his own fate; he chose to survive.
considering that Insomnia is a Japanese city (based on Shinjuku), and that Ignis himself is from there in the original Japanese version of the game (no accent, born in the Kingdom of Lucis just like the others), i can only assume he would understand the cultural significance behind the pompadour hairstyle and what it represents. it’s also a lot of effort for someone who not only exists in a dark world, but who also cannot see himself...there is no doubt in my mind that Ignis chose this style on purpose.
and that’s why i find all of this so fascinating. especially considering what few details we are shown about each of the bros post-timeskip, here’s something about my favorite character that stands out to me as a form of deliberate symbolism and allows me to easily draw conclusions from it. to me it reinforces what a resilient person Ignis is, and it also fuels some of my headcanons that Older Ignis is less uptight and more confident (something that his younger Japanese version self struggles with).
it’s an aspect of Ignis that i feel is extremely significant, but i think has the potential to get overlooked by fans who are not familiar with Japanese culture, which is why i wanted to share it here.

nicole my love will you rank your top three or top five or top ten video games… whichever number you wish to gush about… i love you…
hi sunny..... oughh I have a tough time picking favorites.... I looked at this question like a homework assignment.. I did a top 10 and I put reasoning even though you did not ask for that but I'm putting it under this read more in case you want it... you don't have to read more though... but you can... i love you...
Top 10
Kingdom Hearts - Obviously of course. I don’t always even rank KH1 as my favorite KH game but basically this was my “oh games can be like that?” game. Until I played this, I mostly played simulator games and movie tie-ins and Barbie games, and I loved those but this one had a STORY I could bury myself in. I forced the friend I played this game with to sit and wait while I read through every journal entry and character file looking for MORE, because I was so immediately hooked on everything.
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories - This one always ranks high not just because of the story, which I love, but because this was the first game I ever beat entirely by myself. A lot of people skip or can’t stand this game so I’m extra proud of myself tbh. But this is the game where one of my favorite characters became one of my favorite characters, so it’ll always have a special place.
Ōkami - I love this game so much… It’s so visually stunning, I love the unique game play, and Amaterasu is such an amazing protagonist despite the fact that she does talk outside of barking and howling and also she is literally a dog. But she’s so good. There’s a dedicated bark button, which is important. AND THERE’S FISHING!
Final Fantasy X - I’ve literally never sobbed more over a piece of media in my entire life. The game wasn’t even over yet. I had to fight a boss with tears in my eyes. This was my first FF game and oh my god. Oh my god. I can say no more.
Horizon Zero Dawn - I got so sucked into this game. It was all I could think about for months. I love the environmental storytelling and the world-building and Aloy is a female protagonist WITHOUT a love interest in this game and it’s so huge to me and ugh. UGH.,
Hades - This game is so fun… I usually don’t like games that make me feel like I’m struggling but they somehow made it such a joy to die over and over again and see what’s up in the house. The sheer amount of unique dialogue makes it impossible to get annoyed. And it’s just FUN. Full of complicated family dynamics and Greek mythology… Collectibles… WOO (also has fishing)
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life - This is a really sentimental add, but it’s genuinely one of my favorites. I have so many memories of me and my childhood best friend staying up until the wee hours of the morning playing this game, only to go to bed and set an alarm to get up and play it again. AWL has some of the best NPCs of all HM/SOS games, and also the cutest cows. Ever.
Final Fantasy XV - FISHING. And also stories about bonds we build… friendship… ough.. I love sitting in the back of the car and letting Ignis drive and feeling like we’re all on a friendship road trip together. Random stops for pictures and bathroom breaks included. Luna deserved better but the hours I spent fishing made up for that.
Persona 5 Strikers - It probably seems silly to put this here and not Persona 5, but I really loved Strikers so much. It had such satisfying gameplay, completely different from the source material, yet still somehow felt like such an homage to the classic movesets. It was a really good adaptation to a new genre. I loved the story and the new characters, who MADE ME CRY! and I think it’s such a shame, because a lot of Persona players skipped this one!!! Ryuji gets to say fuck. Come on, people.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles - I love the characters in this game so much… I miss them… I love the original AA trilogy, but this one was so much fun for me. I love Herlock Sholmes… I love him so much I forgot that his real name is not Herlock Sholmes. All the characters are so dynamic and the cases are so fun… That was a game I wished never had to end.
Special mention to Animal Crossing: Wild World, Barbie Horse Adventures Mystery Ride, Secret Agent Barbie, Ni No Kuni, God of War (2018), Gris... I love video games. Damn.

Alternative lifes
Pairing: Ryūji Suguro Bon x reader
Summary: something feels different, no something is different
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The last thing you remembered was Yukio shooting at Lucifer and him going all crazy about it and deciding to engulf in plain darkness everything around him, then nothing.
You woke up, head feeling like a balloon, you had to get up as slowly as possible to not see the colorful dots in your vision. Looking around you noticed something was off, the hospital room was not like you remembered, maybe is an hospital I never saw before, you thought but even if, you couldn’t put your head around what in particular made you think something was wrong.
Before you could even think to leave the space the door of the room got opened and you laughed at the sight of him.
“They were short on doctors and asked you for help?” You said, but the man in front of you didn’t look amused by your words, he was rather annoyed.
“For your information I’m a real doctor.” He said coming closer to your bed and checking your file at the end of it. “So, how are you doing?” He added. Not a glance was threw your way.
“Feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck to be honest. So, where are the others?” He answered with a soft hum and that was it. Not a single word about your friends whereabouts. “Bon? Can you hear me? I asked you about the others?! Have you seen them?”
“First of all, my name is not Bon.” You wanted to interject and tell him you knew that, that Bon was just a nickname, but he was faster than you and kept talking. “Second, in the past two years no one came to visit you so who are you talking about?”
His words made the world collapse on you, how was possible that you had been asleep for two whole years? And what did he mean with no one came to visit you? Was he just pranking you? If he was that was not a good joke at all.
"Bo.... Suguro please stop joking. Where are Renzo, Konekomaru? And what about the Okumura brothers?" you were starting to loose your mind. "where are our friends." Bon never looked at you, he just kept writing. You heard him wisper something about a delusional crisisi or something like that, which make your blood boil in your veins, you were not being delusional, were you?
You took a deep breath, and then started to explain to him about the battle with Lucifer and his army; about his best friend and the new ones he, and you, made at True Cross Academy but nothing. The man kept calling you delusional.
That night you decided to take a stroll around the hospital, just to avoid staying in bed all day long. Somewhere from the hallway you heard some voices, whispering between the two of them, following the sound you were met with Shiemi and Izumo. You were happy to see familiar faces, but as with Bon, they didn't seem to know who you were.
The two girls look at you confused for some seconds and then came back at talking about whatever they were talking before you disturbed the two of them. You scoffed, not understanding what was happening. Was this all a bad, very bad, dream? After pinching yourself you realized it was pretty much real. Bon did not know who you were, your two best friends as well, and you believed no one from your friends actually knew who you were.
Where the Hell am I? You thought, maybe you were actually in Hell and you were going to live your worst nightmare for all eternity, maybe you were daying. Yuo decided to not think too much about it.
It was in the middle of the night when you heard a far whisper in the dark of the room, a familiar voice calling your name while you were ready to finally rest.
"YN, please wake up. Not now, come on." said Ryuji hysterically crying holding in his arm.
"Bon." called Renzo but the guy couldn't hear anything at all. "BON LOOK AT ME" he said making his friend lock eyes with him. "they are gone, you can't do much now." reality hit him like a truck, the person he loved most dearly was gone, what was he going to do without you?
"No, no, no, no, no. Is not too late, we can save them, we have to." he lifted his head, tears in his eyes but he didn't care much if his friends saw him this broken. "we have to do something." he kept on trying to wake you up but nothing was working, but he kept on trying.
"Ryuji, I'm so sorry." said Yukio getting on his knees. He tried to be as gentle as possible in removing the liveless body from his friend's arms but it was a hard task when he was holding on you for dear life. "they are gone and we really need to go." He nodded, Yukio was right, the middle of the battelfield was not the place to say goodbye to you, nor the place to leave your body.
He put you on his back, determined to at least bring your body away from the chaos that was unfolding in front of them, so he could properly say goodbye to you.

Golden years!Au: Some Headcanons about the Kombat kids own kids
* Vera did inherit her father’s telepathy but not the telekinesis(Its fairly week but is amplified with Sento) in the sense that is able to communicate with people and read minds, but hers developed into a unique ability to essentially replicate and absorbed the knowledge and skills of others minds she reads long enough.
* She uses the rope and weapon style similar to that of Mk1 Scorpion minus the fire powers obs. However it’s more like a cowboy lasso style because Grandpa Jax showed her a fuck ton of westerns when he babysat her.
* She is basically a ninja cowgirl because of this
* She has one of the weird horned green zebras foals from Outworld that Kuai Liang and Hanzo gave to her as a birthday gift. Jaquci is pretty sure they stole it from the Royal stables or something but never asked because Vera was so happy.
* She named that damm Horse princess Murderhooves
* Kenshi is fucking scared of it
* She ends up being about 5’11 when she is older
* She and Murderhooves have matching cowboy hats
* Ro and Lance are twins, Lance is the oldest.
* Both inherited both the green glow and cyromancy but at different rates, Ro has the more powerful cyromancy but the green glow is weaker and vice versa with Lance.
* Ro uses posions and other concoctions she uses in battle that she grows in a garden in her room at the Lin Kuei temple. She uses a bladed polearm as well made from her cyromancy primarily.
* She is great at skating, ends up using cybernetic rollerblades on her feet to get around fast in battle
* Lance for the most part uses throwing spikes made from his cyromancy as it’s not as strong but can land in vital areas easier
* He is more of a physical brawler with a fighting style similar to Kuai Liang and Johnny in a sense, more flexible kicking amplified by the green glow.
* The two would fight over Johnny’s movies and rather if they good or not, Lance hated them and Ro loved any cheesy action movie
* Lance is the shorter twin tho because Ro’s last growth spurt got her to 6 foot while he got stuck at 5’9
okay, gotta say, I love your ocs, and if I may add on?
The one kinda awkward thing for the kombat kids' kids (might need a name for that group?) is that Bi-Han, Sareena, and Johnny have two kids who are around their age, Jiahao and Lian (named after Bi-Han's father and sister)
Jiahao uses a bow and doesn't carry any arrows, instead using his cryomancy
Lian uses daggers and takes after her mother in having a demonic form.
Both have the green glow which Cassie pretends to be annoyed by.
Vera and Lian get along like a house on fire
Jiahao spends a lot of time chasing after the twins to try and keep them out of trouble.
Hanzo is also reminded of his own youngers siblings, Hana and Ryuji, who were twins, whenever he sees Ro and Lance
anyway, I love your headcanons, pls keep em coming (only if you want too tho)
